Mita, Mara. "Assessment of seismic displacements of existing landslides through numerical modelling and simplified methods." Electronic Thesis or Diss., Université Gustave Eiffel, 2023. http://www.theses.fr/2023UEFL2075.
Landslides are common secondary effects related to earthquakes which can be responsible for greater damages than the ground shaking alone. Predicting these phenomena is therefore essential for risk management in seismic regions. Nowadays, landslides permanent co-seismic displacements are assessed by the traditional « rigid-sliding block » method proposed by Newmark (1965). Despite its limitations, this method has two advantages: i) relatively short computation times, ii) compatibility with GIS software for regional-scale analyses. Alternatively, more complex numerical analyses can be performed to simulate seismic waves propagation into slopes and related effects. However, due to their longer computation times, their use is usually limited to slope-scale analyses. This study aims at better understanding in which conditions (i.e. combinations of introduced relevant parameters), analytical and numerical methods predict different landslides earthquake-induced displacements. At this regard, 216 2D landslide prototypes were designed by combining geometrical and geotechnical parameters inferred by statistical analysis on data collected by literature review. Landslide prototypes were forced by 17 signals with constant Arias Intensity (AI ~ 0.1 m/s) and variable mean period. Results allowed defining a preliminary Random Forest model to predict a priori, the expected difference between displacements by the two methods. Analysis of results allowed: i) identifying parameters affecting displacement variation according to the two methods, ii) concluding that in here considered AI level, computed displacements differences are negligible in most of the cases

The Act of 8 April 1946 nationalized electricity in France and created a new public monopoly, Électricité de France. A small group of people, mainly from the corps des Ponts-et-Chaussées, was assembled to provide the public utility with a pricing policy. Marcel Boiteux, Gabriel Dessus et Pierre Massé, to mention only a few names, thought they would apply to the power sector the best economic theory of their time, Maurice Allais’ théorie du rendement social. The theory claimed that marginal cost pricing would bring the power sector to a state of maximum efficiency, that it would help governing the sector according to the public interest, and solve rationally the issue of nationalization and its aims. But the story turned out to be quite different. Pricing electricity did not mean applying to the sector the laws of efficiency through transfers of necessities. Rather, in a tentative, partial, progressive, often contradictory manner, the work allowed to describe and thus discuss possible exploitation projects. I propose to term this process the formulation of the optimum. Identifying such a process, I suggest, might contribute to the debate on the status of economics, the kind of truth it produces, and what we can expect from it, especially when it is closely associated with political decision making
Niu, Yanfang. Thesis, Paris 1, 2017. http://www.theses.fr/2017PA01H036.
The promenade architecturale, an expression invented by Le Corbusier in 1929 when the first volume of L’Œuvre complète was published, represents one of the most frequently mentioned key concept of Le Corbusier. By following the paths traced by the uses of the term promenade architecturale by the architect himself, without limiting ourselves to them, our research aims to clarify the genesis, the implementation and the development of this concept. A methodology consisting of three approaches — historical, project-based and textual — has been adopted in order to evaluate how it evolved bet-ween 1907 and 1939. The formative years of the architect (1907-1915) constitutes a field to observe his main sources of inspiration. The early career of Charles-Edouard Jeanneret at La Chaux-de-Fonds, dating from the return of the young architect from the Voyage d’Orient to his departure for Paris in 1917, and the first decade of the career of Le Corbusier (1920-1929), provide helpful indices to understand how this concept was put into practice on private houses. At last, the ère des grands travaux (1929-1939) constitutes a testimony to the development of this concept, and is a witness of its mutation particularly along a series of studies that Le Corbusier devoted to museums. This last phase marks the peak of the promenade architecturale and announces its disappearing from Le Corbusier’s written work in his postwar career. Far from being a simple aesthetic formulation appeared accidentally, the promenade architecturale was developed on the basis of an action of crossing varied sources of inspiration — painting, art of building cities, literature, cinema and architecture —, and was deduced from a fusion of perceptive and conceptual experiences. Thus, it constitutes Le Corbusier’s fundamental and specific method for thinking architecture, which makes him stand out from his precursors and from other prominent characters of the Modern Movement
Thesis, Paris 10, 2013. http://www.theses.fr/2013PA100173.
My research studies Beniamino Joppolo’s (1906-1963) complete theatrical works. The first part retraces the author’s biographical, aesthetic, poetic, artistic and political life and presents, in so doing, the historical context of the elaboration of each of his forty-seven plays. This part is subdivided in four sections dealing with respectively his youth, the Milan years, the post-war period and the Parisian decade. The second part focuses on I carabinieri and the complex experience that the play, indisputably a hallmark in Joppolo’s work, generates. It presents a genetic and comparative study of the different versions of the play, and analyses Joppolo’s collaboration with playwright J. Audiberti, and the workings of its adaptation for the stage (R. Rossellini, 1962) and for the screen (J.-L. Godard, 1963). The third part tracks the many clues left by the author to explore the stage adaptations of his productions and offers personal insights into three plays, related to the absurd, expressionist and magic-realist movements. A detailed bibliography precedes the required appendices : a structured chronological table; a synopsis for each identified play; the translations of Lʼimbottigliaggio mostro [Massive traffic jam], Lʼattesa [The wait], Il fiore giallo e lʼalbero parlante [The golden flower and the talking tree], et I microzoi [The microzoons] ; Giovanni Joppolo’s, the author’s son, interview, conducted in 2013 ; three indices (names and notions, illustrations, general index)
