Abstract:

This study focuses on improving students’ abilities in learning English with the support of Pictorial Metaplan as a teaching aid. The use of this Metaplan aims to improve speaking skills in formal and non-formal contexts. This pictorial Metaplan is a realia in the form of an illustrated carpet with a theme Getting Direction. Pictorial Metaplan focuses on the topic Getting Direction and applied directly to 15 students in the 8th grade of junior high school. The implementation of the use of the Pictorial Metaplan begins with distributing questionnaires and implementing Pre- Test and Post-Test, then direct implementation of using Pictorial Metaplan combined with Total Physical Response (TPR) method. The treatment for students was carried out by dividing two class groups, the control group, and the experimental group. The control group used conventional methods, without using learning aids, while the second group used the Pictorial Metaplan as a teaching aid. Based on the results of Pre-Test and Post-Test show an increase in the results of the values before and after implementing the Pictorial Metaplan. Thus it can be concluded that learning in the experimental group using Pictorial Metaplan is more effective than learning using conventional methods.

Abstract:

This study focuses on the development of instructional media using pictorial metaplan and provide eligibility assessment for the product. The use of pictorial metaplan media aims to increase interest in learning vocabulary as well as to directly apply of English speaking practice to students of 8th grade Junior High School. This type of research is using Research and Development method (R&D). Direct trials was conducted on 1 media expert, 4 teachers and 7 students from 8th grade Junior High School. The implementation of the use of pictorial metaplan to the subjects of this study used a combination of the Total Physical Response (TPR) and Student-Centered Learning (SCR) methods. The results of this study are indicated by the total score of the product eligibility assessment that were obtained from the total conversion of the assessment from media expert, teachers and students. The total score of the media experts was 106, which meant in ‘very eligible’ category, the total score of the teacher was 81.6, which meant ‘eligible’ category and the total score of the students was 92.2, which meant ‘eligible’ category. Based on the results, pictorial metaplan is eligible to be a teaching aid for learning English, especially in speaking competence.

Abstract:

Background The proposed sequential and combinatorial algorithm, suggested as a standard tool for assessing, exploring, and reporting heterogeneity in the meta-analysis, is useful but time-consuming particularly when the number of included studies is large. Metaplot is a novel graphical approach that facilitates performing sensitivity analysis to distinguish the source of substantial heterogeneity across studies with ease and speed. Method Metaplot is a Stata module based on Stata’s commands, known informally as "ado". Metaplot presents a two-way (x, y) plot in which the x-axis represents the study codes and the y-axis represents the values of I2 statistics excluding one study at a time (n-1 studies). Metaplot also produces a table in the ’Results window’ of the Stata software including details such as I2 and χ2 statistics and their P-values omitting one study in each turn. Results Metaplot allows rapid identification of studies that have a disproportionate impact on heterogeneity across studies, and communicates to what extent omission of that study may reduce the overall heterogeneity based on the I2 and χ2 statistics. Metaplot has no limitations regarding the number of studies or types of outcome data (binomial or continuous data). Conclusions Metaplot is a simple graphical approach that gives a quick and easy identification of the studies having substantial influences on overall heterogeneity at a glance.

Abstract:

28 Background: Amongst all cancers in men, prostate cancer (PCa) is the most common cancer, and the second leading cause of death. Racial disparities in PCa care in the United States (US) are known to exist. However, it is not clear if this disparity is also noted specifically in patients diagnosed with metastatic PCa (metaPCa). We analyzed the Surveillance Epidemiology and End results Program (SEER) 18 registry, to determine the racial disparity in survival of AA patients diagnosed with metaPCa compared to other races recorded in this registry. Methods: Cancer incidence data was obtained from the SEER 18 registry (2000-2018). The data was analyzed using StataMP 16 (StataCorp) software. Demographic and clinical outcomes were recorded from the registry. We performed univariate Cox regression using proportional hazard model and obtained Kaplan Meier curves to look at the difference in survival based on different age groups and race. Results: A total of 51,979 cases were identified with metaPCa, out of whom 75.8% were Whites. 40,579 deaths were recorded. Mean age group of patients with metaPCa were 70-74 years. Grade 3 poorly differentiated adenocarcinoma was noted in 54.6% patients. There was no statistically significant difference in survival of AA patients with metaPCa compared to Non-Hispanic Whites (NHW) (Hazard Ratio (HR): 0.99; 95%CI 0.96,1.03 p = 0.71) or Alaskan and American Natives (AIAN) with metaPCa (HR:1.048; 95%CI 0.91,1.21 p = 0.539). AA with metaPCa had a statistically better outcome compared to Asian and Pacific Islanders with metaPCa (HR:0.775; 95%CI 0.731,0.821 p = 0.00). Amongst patients with less than 65 years of age with metaPCa, AA patients had statistically better survival than NHW (HR: 0.94; 95% CI 0.89-0.98 p = 0.05). No statistically supported racial disparity in survival was observed in patients above 65 years with metaPCa (AA to NHW patients- HR: 0.99; 95% CI 0.96,1.03 p = 0.71). Conclusions: Although racial disparities exist in survival of all patients diagnosed with prostate cancer, when it comes to those with metaPCA, there is no statistically supported racial disparity amongst AA patients compared to NHW, except for those who are younger than 65 years where white patients have a worse outcome compared to AA diagnosed with metaPCa.

Abstract:

Nghiên cứu về thành phần loài cua trong hệ sinh thái rừng ngập mặn huyện Hậu Lộc được thực hiện vào 12/2020 tại 19 điểm đại diện cho các sinh cảnh trong khu vực nghiên cứu. Kết quả nghiên cứu đã xác định được 26 loài giáp xác thuộc phân bộ cua trong khu vực HST RNM huyện Hậu Lộc. Các loài trong đó thuộc 19 giống, 8 họ. Họ có nhiều loài nhất là họ cáy rừng Sesarmidae với 7 loài thuộc 6 giống, tiếp đến họ dã tràng Dotillidae và họ cua rạm Varunidae đều có 5 loài thuộc 4 giống. Các họ còn lại đều có 1 giống (từ 1-3 loài). Các họ Sesarmidae, Dotillidae và Varunidae đều là các họ đặc trưng, điển hình cho các HST RNM ven biển ở Việt Nam. Đã ghi nhận mới sự có mặt của loài Cáy đỏ (Neosarmatium smithi), Cáy maipo (Perisesarma maipoense), cáy tròn (Sarmatium germaini), cáy lông (Chiromantes dehaani), ... Các loài gặp ở đây chủ yếu đều là những loài phân bố rộng như Perisesarma bidens, Parasesarma plicatum, Metaplax elegans, Metaplax longipes, Macrophthalmus tomemtosus,… Tại các bãi trống ngoài RNM về phía biển chủ yếu gặp các loài mày mạy (Metaplax elegans), sà sạ (Macrophthalmus tomemtosus), các loài trong họ dã tràng (Dotillidae) như cua lính, dã tràng lớn, dã tràng nâu, vái trời; Sinh cảnh rừng thấp mới trồng, cây thưa bắt gặp một số loài như Metaplax elegans,…; Trong RNM gặp chủ yếu là các loài cáy Perisesarma bidens, Parasesarma plicatum,...; Sinh cảnh rừng trồng lâu năm, nền đáy cao hơn, độ che phủ lớn hơn thường xuất hiện các loài có kích thước lớn như cáy đỏ (Neosarmatium smithi), cáy tròn (Sarmatium germaini),…; Sinh cảnh bãi cao ven rừng ngập mặn thường xuất hiện các loài cua đào hang sâu trên nền đất cứng như cù kỳ (Helice latimera), Perisesarma maipoense, Chiromantes dehaani, Uca arcuata,…

Abstract:

This article presents, for the first time, the meaning of the metaplot in the books of fables by I. A. Krylov. The metaplot of a lion is canonical for the fable genre and represents an invariant model of power in the fictional world. The purpose of this article is to identify and describe the metaplot as one of the significant factors of Krylov’s literary strategy, as he created the nine volumes of fables during a dynamic literary process and change in the dominant trends in the national verbal culture of the first half of the 19th century. The idea of the fabulist regarding the lion’s metaplot is revealed in the horizontal sphere of the world, the prevalence of negative tendencies and the tragic, but natural ending of the character in the eighth and ninth books. The authors of this article consider the infernal space in the metaplot of a lion as a structural part of a moralistic message, dialogically addressed to the character; they fix the correlation between the plot punishment and the emergence of the space of hell in the nine-book. Reconstruction of the character's individual hell, taking into account his passions, shows that Krylov’s use of infernal space is not accidental, which in the future will give researchers ample opportunities for analyzing the space of his entire meta-concept. This article focuses on the chronological points of actualization of the metaplot in the work of the fabulist, in particular, in 1818-1819, as well as his transferability of the texts within the framework of the nine books, which is obviously connected with his special vision of the intertextual integrity of the project.

Abstract:

Intertidal mudflat crabs of the genus Metaplax H. Milne Edwards, 1852 (Crustacea: Brachyura: Varunidae) from China, Taiwan, and northern Vietnam are taxonomically revised by morphological and molecular evidence. These crabs show sexual dimorphism and morphological variation of a considerable range in the infraorbital ridge, one of the primary features previously used for species identification. In this study, four species were identified from the region: M. elegans De Man, 1888; M. longipes Stimpson, 1858; M. sheni Gordon, 1930; and M. tredecim Tweedie, 1950. Based on the results of the morphological examination, and as confirmed by molecular evidence from mitochondrial cytochrome oxidase subunit I (COI), taxonomic confusion surrounding M. longipes was resolved, and M. takahasii Sakai, 1939, is considered a junior synonym of M. longipes. The geographical distribution of Metaplax longipes extends along the shores of China, north to Jiangsu, whereas the Southeast Asian M. tredecim was newly recorded from northern Vietnam and Hong Kong.

Abstract:

Статья посвящена изучению звукоизобразительной сферы, связанной с образом машины, механизма, и ее отражения в музыке Прокофьева. Основной признак «механического» в музыке - ритмика ostinato, активно используемая в новоевропейской традиции, особенно в эпохи барокко и классицизма с их приоритетом ритмоэнергической стихии. В ХХ веке в контексте новых реалий сформировались «механические» ассоциации ostinato. Прокофьев - один из родоначальников традиции «механического» в музыке. Круг ассоциаций, связанный с этой традицией, имеет особое значение для его творчества благодаря приоритетной роли в нем ритмоэнергического начала и пульсации. «Механическое» у Прокофьева становится репрезентантом деперсонализации, а музыкальная ткань - полем конфликта персонализированного материала с «механическим», который можно интерпретировать как конфликт индивидуации и коллективных структур человеческого сознания. The article is devoted to the sound-visual sphere associated with the image of a machine, mechanism, and its reflection in Prokofiev's music. The main feature of a “mechanical” in music is ostinato, which was used in European music for several centuries, especially in the Baroque and Classicism eras with their priority of the rhythmic-energy element. In the 20 century it acquired “mechanical” associations in the context of new realities. Prokofiev is one of the founders of the new tradition of “mechanical” in music. This circle of associations is of particular importance in his music due to the priority role of rhythmic-energetic beginning and pulsation in it. The “mechanical” in Prokofiev becomes a representative of depersonalization, and the musical fabric becomes a field of conflict between personalized material and “mechanical”, which can be interpreted as a conflict of individuation and the collective structures of human consciousness.

Pada saat ini Desa Peninjoan Kecamatan Tembuku telah dicanangkan sebagai Desa Wisata Alam. Berbagai upaya telah dilakukan dalam upaya pemanfaatan berbagai potensi dan produk yang ada pada wisata alam spiritual alas metapa, membenahi ketimpangan-ketimpangan serta memanfaatkan berbagai peluang dan mengatasi ancaman Namun kenyataan dalam mewujudkan wisata alam spiritual alas metapa desa peninjoan tidak sesuai dengan harapan. Pengembangan yang menitik beratkan pada pemanfaatan produk wisata alam spiritual yang ada belum maksimal dilakukan. Bahkan sampai saat ini pemanfaatan wisata alam spiritual alas metapa belum mencapai target yang diinginkan. Urgensi penelitian ini adalah 1) Untuk mengidentifikasi tingkat potensi wisata spiritual alas metapa di Desa Peninjoan, Kecamatan Tembuku, Kabupaten Bangli. 2). Untuk merumuskan strategi pengembangan Wisata Spiritual Alas Metapa di Desa Peninjoan, Kecamatan Tembuku. Teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan adalah observasi, wawancara, studi dokumentasi dan kuesioner. Teknik analisis data menggunakan analisis triangulasi dengan matriks SWOT dan daftar periksa (check list) potensi wisata alam ADO-ODTW. Hasil penelitian ini mengungkapkan tingkat potensi wisata desa Peninjoan dan alternative model pengembangan yang dapat diterapkan dalam Pengelolan desa wisata Peninjoan.

Abstract:

To this day, the ideas of A. Veselovsky’s Historical Poetics [Istoricheskaya poetika] have been confined to philological discourse. V. Shklovsky’s quip that ‘Aleksandr Veselovsky had no pupils, only admirers’ still rings true. The article represents the first attempt at analysing the metaplot of Eugene Onegin, Pushkin’s novel in verse, through the application of Veselovsky’s comparative method. The study seeks to resolve the problem of imitation, which occupied the mind of the novel’s creator, from the viewpoints of the author and his artistic doppelganger the poet. In this regard, a resolution of the dilemma ‘one’s own — someone else’s’ is reached by means of Veselovsky’s comparative approach, which owes its recent revival in scholarly discourse to works by I. Shaytanov. Assimilation of ‘someone else’s’ is explained in the context of Veselovsky’s concept of ‘crosscurrent’ discovered by the scholar during his study of Pushkin’s ideas on the subject. In her examination of ‘imitativeness,’ the author is guided by Pushkin’s understanding of it, as later embraced by Veselovsky; i. e., rather than as a mechanical act, it is viewed as an act of creation, whose purpose it is to reveal the uniqueness of a specific national culture.

Abstract:

A participatory learning process (PLP) was used in Viet Nam to formulate a curriculum for a master of science (M.Sc.) degree in community nutrition. Students and professionals from different disciplines participated in a two-day workshop to develop a curriculum. The knowledge, skills, and attitudes required of a community nutritionist were identified and a curriculum was formulated. The experience showed that broad participation is necessary, the metaplan technique is useful, time is essential, and facilitation is needed. The PLP was used to collect a maximum number of experiences, document the outcomes, develop a consensus, and create a sense of ownership within the principal actors in the process.

Abstract:

Every archaeological remain is always found in context with certain space and building architecture. This is also the case with the archaeological finds at the site of Arjuna Metapa at Pejeng Village in Gianyar, Bali. Uncovering a holy bathing place is the focus of this research, which is based on supporting data in form of archaeological data found within the location. The methods being used to solve the problem are divided into two: data collection and data analyses. Data collecting involves surface survey, bibliographical study, and interviews, while data analyses include qualitative-artifactual analysis, comparative and correlation analysis, location/spatial analysis, and physical traces analysis. Data obtained from research and analyses reveal that the Arjuna Metapa Site was a patirthan (holy bathing place) with water spouts, indicated by two spouted statues on Arjuna Metapa pedestal, which are meditating Arjuna spouted statue and angel spouted statue. Supporting data in form of an angel statue, which has similar form and size, was also found at the Village Temple (Pura Desa) of Bedulu. Oral tradition also mentions that the area was known by the name of Uma Telaga and is believed to be a rice field that was previously a lake or bathing place. This is confirmed by the discovery of Air Tiga inscription in that location. The name Air Tiga (air means water and tiga means three) is probably refer to the number of statues found in that location, which is one meditating Arjuna spouted statue and two angels spouted statues.

Abstract:

The article deals with the analysis of the refraction of the metaplot about the Grand Inquisitor in the traditionalist prose of the turn of the 20th-21st centuries. The complex of motives presented in the legend of the Grand Inquisitor corresponds to the crisis of the value system characteristic of the traditionalism of this period (new traditionalism). The crisis is accompanied by the loss of reference points as such, a situation of extreme uncertainty: the worldview dualism inherent in ‘classical’ traditionalist prose is replaced by multivariance. The role of the Grand Inquisitor, creating a false but acceptable system of values, plays a patriarchal way. In the works of B. Ekimov, M. Tarkovsky, R. Senchin the following the patriarchal way of life, traditional peasant work on the land does not allow one to support the family, to ensure the continuation of the family. The only alternative found by F. Dostoyevsky is forgiving love, which opens the way to otherness, which was previously open to any patriarchal hero. In crisis periods, it is given only to those who are capable of conscious choice, to sacrifice / self-sacrifice for the sake of another, which allows to overcome chaos and non-existence.

Abstract:

The article presents the specific character of teaching foreign languages – "Ukrainian as a foreign language" and "Polish as a foreign language" – for students-economists at Kiev National Economic University named after Vadym Hetman. Metafictional levels in Rugiero Leoncavallo’s Pagliacci establish the concept of reality set in dramatic and interpretative functions. This essay aims to explain, throughout a hermeneutic and a semiotic analysis, how metafiction creates a meaningful link between reality and fiction. Here, a hermeneutic theory that relies on the spectator’s, actors’ and the director’s point of view is developed from the concept of verism. The author of the libretto plays around within the planes of reality and fiction to create an enigma that explains the meaning and interpretation phenomenon using a metaplay as a frame liaised by a mise en abyme. It is concluded that metafiction reaches beyond a single structure within another that explains itself, it leaves the margins of reality, fiction and the spectator’s imagination, and they build the oeuvre’s signification.

Abstract Coal plasticity is a phenomenon directly affecting the creation of coke structure. It is very much a time- and temperature-dependent transformation of the coal matrix, which allows changing the physical phase from solid to liquid-like and again into solid of different properties. The coking process, particularly in a plasticization temperature range, can be considered as a non-isothermal reaction at a constant heating rate. In this work, a macro-kinetics approach is applied that results in effective kinetic parameters, i.e. pre-exponential factor and activation energy. It is postulated in this work that the original content of metaplast (M0) is a part of volatile matter that melts under the effect of temperature. The coal sample can melt steadily with the temperature increase, achieving the maximum fluidity (Fmax) when the total amount of metaplast available turns into the plastic state. Coal behaviour while it is being heated can be described by two mechanisms. Under first one, the coal turns into plastic phase starting at t1 and ending at tmax, where solidification starts. This can be considered as independent reactions model. In the second model, both plasticization and solidification reactions compete over entire range of phenomena. This can be considered as reactions in the series model. The developed models were validated against experimental data of coal fluidity delivering kinetic parameters.

Abstract Natural product ovalicin and its synthetic derivative TNP-470 have been extensively studied for their antiangiogenic property, and the later reached phase 3 clinical trials. They covalently modify the conserved histidine in Type 2 methionine aminopeptidases (MetAPs) at nanomolar concentrations. Even though a similar mechanism is possible in Type 1 human MetAP, it is inhibited only at millimolar concentration. In this study, we have discovered two Type 1 wild-type MetAPs (Streptococcus pneumoniae and Enterococcus faecalis) that are inhibited at low micromolar to nanomolar concentrations and established the molecular mechanism. F309 in the active site of Type 1 human MetAP (HsMetAP1b) seems to be the key to the resistance, while newly identified ovalicin sensitive Type 1 MetAPs have a methionine or isoleucine at this position. Type 2 human MetAP (HsMetAP2) also has isoleucine (I338) in the analogous position. Ovalicin inhibited F309M and F309I mutants of human MetAP1b at low micromolar concentration. Molecular dynamics simulations suggest that ovalicin is not stably placed in the active site of wild-type MetAP1b before the covalent modification. In the case of F309M mutant and human Type 2 MetAP, molecule spends more time in the active site providing time for covalent modification.

This article analyzes the main stylistic devices in the sonnets of E. Spencer “Amoretti”. It was determined that his poetry is characterized by a broad system of stylistic devices: Phonostylistic (alliteration, anaphora, epiphora, metaplasm) syntactic shapes, paths (metaphors, epithets, personification, metonymy, antonomasia, hyperbole, litotes, oxymoron, comparison). The author also uses allusions, symbols, and allegories. It was demonstrated that the style of E. Spencer suggests he was a master with a special sense of poetic form, organically stylistic devices, the brightness of language constructs.

Abstract:

The article is devoted to the four episodes of reading the passages from Holy Scripture in the F. M. Dostoevsky’s novels. These include The Raising of Lazarus in “Crime and Punishment”, Messages to the Angel of the Laodocian Church in “Demons” and the Marriage at Cana in “The Brothers Karamazov”. There are several shared characteristics of the content and structure in noted episodes. First of all, there are always heroes-who-read and heroes-who-listen. Secondly, while heroes-who-read are usually having a strong faith, heroes-who-listen are facing the crisis of belief. Finally, each passage is meant to be an allegory, by which the readers are trying to point a new way in life for listeners, and motivate them to work on themselves instead of giving them ready answers. In conclusion, all of the above-mentioned episodes could be summarized into a metaplot of reading in the F. M. Dostoevsky’s novels.
