Este trabalho tem por objetivo propor, a partir dos romances de Lygia Fagundes Telles, uma teoria da identidade que recupere a animalidade e inclua o conceito de metamorfose. A dissertação está dividida em três capítulos. Cada capítulo apresenta, a título de introdução e convite à reflexão tanto sobre os conceitos e análises ali apresentados como em relação ao próprio processo de leitura, um conto de autoria própria. No primeiro, trazemos o conceito de identidade, metamorfose e animalidade, antecedidos, cada um, por uma ilustração literária a partir de uma citação, como uma epígrafe, de textos da autora estudada. O segundo capítulo tem por escopo trazer ao leitor um panorama da fauna encontrada no romance lygiano e a categorização dessa fauna em animais internos, animais como outros e animais simbólicos. Por fim, o terceiro capítulo trata da teoria da identidade a que nos referimos no objetivo da pesquisa. A partir da análise realizada, foi possível verificar que os romances lygianos trazem na tessitura de suas narrativas uma proposta de teoria da identidade que inclui os conceitos de metamorfose e animalidade.
This work aims to propose, from the novels of Lygia Fagundes Telles, a theory of identity that recovers animality and includes the concept of metamorphosis. The dissertation is divided into three chapters. Each chapter, presents as an introduction and as an invitation to reflect both on the concepts and analysis presented there and on the reading process itself, a self-authorship short story. In the first, we bring the concept of identity, metamorphosis and animality, each one preceded by a literary illustration based on a citation, as an epigraph, of the author’s texts studied. The second chapter aims to bring to the reader an overview of the fauna found in the author’s novels and the categorization of this fauna in internal animals, animals as others and symbolic animals. Finally, the third chapter deals with the theory of identity to which we refer in the goals of the research. From the analysis made, it was possible to verify that the Telles’ novels bring in the texture of their narratives a proposal of identity theory that includes the concepts of metamorphosis and animality.

Full textFollowing the tenets of the interdisciplinary area of animal studies, this dissertation presents a reading of animal figures in literature against the grain, which means that they are not taken only as metaphors of certain aspects of human life but as textual presences with a status assigned to characters and, in this condition, are interrogated in their alterity. The central question to be explored is: what the animal metaphor says about animals and the relation of animal and human beings and what it means to de-figure the metaphor in order to explore the possibility of re-signifying, in ficcional textualities, the human/animal relation. In order to address these issues, I draw a panorama of animal studies, including the state of the art in Brazil, to contend that this area adds to the possibilities of innovation in the field of comparative literature. Then, I consider a theoretical framework of Jacques Derrida’s animal philosophy, also discussing theoretical positions of Calarco (2008), Krell (2013), Lawlor (2007) and Naas (2010) on this topic. Finally, I propose comparative readings of Franz Kafka’s The metamorphosis (1915) and Marie Darrieussecq’s Pig tales (1996), from the perspective of becoming animal, and of Virginia Woolf’s Flush (1933) and Paul Auster’s Timbuktu (1999), both on domesticating animals.

Full textThe objective of this theoretical-practical project is to articulate the concept of metamorphosis by presenting a particular approach to the process through the development of the practical component, a three-minute animated short film titled The Legend of the Country that does not exist, executed in the drawing cartoon technique. In this component, I tried to use the metamorphosis differently than the usual way – as a visual effect or as a link between the scenes. I used it both as the most important constituent process of Animation, and as a plastic resource, and also, as the main driver of the story. For a better understanding of the concept, its applications in the fields of Visual Arts, Literature and Cinema were considered. In this paper, I have investigated animated works where the use of metamorphosis plays an important role, such as Blinkity Blank (MCLAREN, 1955), Street Musique (LARKIN, 1972), Introduction (GAZIZOV, 1992), Britannia (QUINN 1993) and Gloria Victoria (USHEV, 2012). In order to deepen the research, I have developed and proposed a set of classifications of metamorphoses: a table where they are listed according to the types of transformation (substitution, manipulation and deformation) in relation to the animation techniques in which they are produced; and other listings according to the identification of their narrative characteristics (scene transition, temporal ellipse, spatial ellipse, character change and daydream) or symbolic characteristics (transfiguration, visual metaphor and graphic distortion). In view of all the previous stages, it was possible to develop a differentiated approach, where metamorphosis and its transformations represent processes and narrate history. For the narrative development of the practical component the History of Brazil was chosen as the theme, in combination with the philosophical concepts of utopia and dystopia. This theoretical component is based in particular on the studies on Animation, by Paul Wells (1966-) and Georges Sifianos (1952-) and texts on the plasmaticity, by Sergei Eisenstein (1898-1948)

Full textThis work proposes to reflect on the marvellous in Mia Couto's short narrative, in particular on the central role of animals and the way they interact with Gods and ancestors, revealing themselves as the translators of their words, of their messages, to the living. Wandering between the real and the oneiric, between life and death, they undergo metamorphoses, indicate omens, participate in the community's spells, thus establishing bridges between tradition and modernity. In the first chapter, we intend to point out the different phases of Mozambican literature and its main lines, including the work of Mia Couto. In the second chapter, we tried to trace the writer's life path, from his childhood, spent in Beira to the present day, and briefly discussed the historical-geographic path of the short story and its importance in the African continent, where the oral tale seeks its roots in the deepest origins of African cultures. In the third chapter, starting from the concept of “literary fantasy”, we sketched a theoretical approach to the marvellous, focusing mainly on his dimension of the accepted and naturalised supernatural and articulation with the natural and the real. We reflect on the importance of myth in the construction of the history and identity of peoples, specifically on the African continent. Also in this chapter, we discussed the importance and symbolism of animals on this continent. In chapter four, we analyse the role and importance of animals present in the tales, starting from the vision of the world that the marvellous encloses and which leads us to a literary representation of the traditional imagination of the various peoples that make up the Mozambican mosaic. The marvellous thus becomes a process through which the identity is affirmed, the Mozambicanity is built, recovering the rites, beliefs and conceptions of the world, marked by myth and the sacred.
