L’utilisation de l’effet plasmonique de nanoparticules métalliques (NP) est l’une des voies les plus prometteuses pour améliorer les performances optiques et électriques des diodes électroluminescentes organiques (OLED). Le choix du métal, la taille et la position des NP sont liés aux propriétés physiques recherchées mais aussi aux approches et aux techniques permettant leur fabrication. Deux approches peuvent être utilisées : random metallic nanoparticules (RMN) et periodic metallic nanoparticules (PMN).

Background: Nanotechnology offers an advantage as a green route for synthesis of metal nanoparticles (NPs) with plant extracts as capping agent. Spondias mombin is a fruit-bearing tree and its leaf extracts have been reported to possess anxiolytic, hypoglycaemic, antiepileptic, antipsychotic, sedative, antioxidant, and antimicrobial properties. The objective of the study is to determine the antibacterial potential of a simple non-toxic product of green synthesis of metallic (Ag, Zn and Cu) nanoparticles using the leaf of Spondias mombin aqueous extracts (SMAE) as a reducing and capping agents of the metal ions.Methodology: Nanoparticles were characterized by UV visible spectrophotometeric analysis, Fourier Transform Infra-Red (FT-IR) spectrophotometer and scanning electron microscope (SEM). Antimicrobial activities of synthesized NPs against Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa were determined by agar well diffusion technique.Results: The synthesized NPs varied in colour from dark brown to green and appears dominantly spherical, occasionally rod or triangular shaped with size ranging from 65-90 nm. UV spectroscopy absorption spectra of Ag, Zn and Cu NPs had absorbance peak at 267, 262 and 765 nm respectively. FT-IR spectrometry of Zn NP, Cu NP, and SMAE gave wave number ranging from 895.71-3320.67, 747.02-3225.45 and 658.25-3674.49 respectively. FT-IR analysis showed that SMAE acted as reducing and stabilizing agent while the NPs exhibited lower energy absorption band when compared to the plant extract. The NPs demonstrated higher antimicrobial activities against S. aureus than Ps. aeruginosa and E. coli. Les spectres d'absorption par spectroscopie UV des NP Ag, Zn et Cu présentaient des pics d'absorbance à 267, 262 et 765 nm respectivement. La spectrométrie FT-IR de Zn NP, Cu NP et SMAE a donné un nombre d'onde allant de 895,71 à 3320,67, 747,02 à 3225,45 et 658,25 à 3674,49 respectivement. L'analyse FT-IR a montré que le SMAE agissait en tant qu'agent réducteur et stabilisant, alors que les NP présentaient une bande d'absorption d'énergie inférieure à celle de l'extrait de plante. Les NP ont démontré des activités antimicrobiennes plus élevées contre S. aureus que Ps. aeruginosa et E. coli. L'activité antimicrobienne était plus élevée avec les NP en cuivre que dans les NP Ag et Zn, et également supérieure à celle du SMAE.Conclusion: le résultat de cette étude présente une indication d'un autre moyen de développement de nouveaux agents antimicrobiens pour des applications cliniques et biotechnologiques.Mots-clés: synthèse, nanoparticules, FT-IR, spectrophotométrie UV-visible, activités antibactériennes

Zirconium-89 (89Zr, t1/2 = 3.27 days) owns great potential in nuclear medicine, being extensively used in the labelling of antibodies and nanoparticules. 89Zr can be produced by cyclotron via an 89Y(p,n)89Zr reaction while using an 89Y-foil target. In this study, we investigated for the first time the use of 89Y-pressed target for the preparation of 89Zr-oxalate via a (p,n) reaction. We performed comparative studies with an 89Y-foil target mounted on custom-made target supports. A new automated cassette-based purification module was used to facilitate the purification and the fractionation of 89Zr-oxalate. The effective molar activity (EMA) was calculated for both approaches via titration with deferoxamine (DFO). The radionuclidic purity was determined by gamma-ray spectroscopy and the metal impurities were quantified by ICP-MS on the resulting 89Zr-oxalate solution. The cassette-based purification process leading to fractionation is simple, efficient, and provides very high EMA of 89Zr-oxalate. The total recovered activity was 81 ± 4% for both approaches. The highest EMA was found at 13.3 MeV and 25 μA for 0.25-mm thick 89Y-foil. Similar and optimal production yields were obtained at 15 MeV and 40 μA while using 0.50-mm thick 89Y-foil and pressed targets. Metallic impurities concentration was below the general limit of 10 ppm for heavy metals in the US and Ph.Eur for both 89Y-foil and pressed targets. Overall, these results show that the irradiation of 89Y-pressed targets is a very effective process, offering an alternative method for 89Zr production.

Nanoparticle (NP) size and charge play key roles in bioconjugation chemistry, imaging and drug delivery. Although the electrophoretic mobility and hydrodynamic size are routinely measured, interpreting these data can be extremely difficult. Here, the challenge is addressed via an electrokinetic model for spheres bearing a soft amphoteric corona, the charge of which is regulated by a multi-component electrolyte. The model is applied to NPs with a metallic core to which are grafted poly(ethylene glycol) chains with either weak acid or amphiprotic end groups. The results elucidate the separate roles of electrolyte pH and ionic strength on the electrophoretic mobility and diffusion coefficient. In this study, the forces were evaluated directly, rather than from the Stokeslet velocity disturbances. While the second-order convergence was demonstrated by both methods, the direct approach, which uses only the inner part of the global solution, furnished superior accuracy and robustness. This may benefit future attempts to model the dielectric and electroacoustic properties of these complex nanoparticulates.

AbstractSilicon nanotips, grown via electron cyclotron resonance plasma chemical vapour deposition, with apex diameters of ∼2nm and lengths of 1000 nm and densities of 1011/cm2 were used as a new substrate for surface enhanced Raman spectroscopy. Ion beam sputtered gold and silver self assemble on these substrates as nanoparticulates of 4–10 nm diameter and these metallic nanoparticulates assist in the surface enhancement of Raman signals of analytes. Molecules such as Rhodamine 6G and bis-Pyridyl ethylene of varied concentrations, in the range of 10-6-10-10 M, has been studied on these substrates and enhancements in the range of 106-108 were observed.

We have investigated a novel hybrid nanocomposite thermal interface material (TIM) that consists of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs), silver nanoflakes (AgNFs), and copper microparticles (CuMPs). Continuous metallic network form while AgNPs and AgNFs fuse to join bigger CuMPs upon hot compression, resulting in superior thermal and mechanical performances. The assembly temperature is as low as 125 °C due to the size effect of silver nanoparticulates. The thermal conductivity, k, of the hybrid nanocomposite TIMs is found to be in the range of 15–140 W/mK, exceeding best-performing commercial thermal greases, while comparable to high-end solder TIMs. The dependence of k on the solid packing density and the volume fraction of voids is discussed through comparing to model predictions.

: Metal nanoparticular synthesis techniques essentially involve a reduction of metal ions to convert them into nanoparticles. Reducing agents originate from natural and synthetic sources. Chemical methods involve application of synthetic agents that are not healthy and eco-friendly and thus, there is a need for green methods. Green synthesis methods involve reduction of metal ions using plant-based extracts or phytoconstituents and microorganisms like bacteria, yeast, and fungi. These methods have been found to be cost-effective, more efficient and eliminate the application of hazardous chemicals. The phytoconstituents involved in the synthesis of metal nanoparticles are rich in polyols and antioxidants, which in addition to reducing properties, also offer stabilization of formed nanoparticles. Moreover, the size of nanoparticles can also be controlled based on the mechanism of reducing agent involved therein. The present review is an attempt to highlight the methods of synthesis of metallic nanoparticles with a special mention of applications of various natural antioxidants in their synthesis.

Nous avons étudié la dynamique des électrons dans des réseaux de nanoparticules métalliques. Nous avons d'abord considéré le réseau le plus simple, c'est-à-dire le dimère de nanoparticules. Nous avons trouvé des fréquences propres du dimère hétérogène et ensuite nous avons appliqué l'approche du système quantique ouvert pour décrire les processus d’amortissement présents dans le système. Nous avons étudié deux processus d’amortissement qui dépendent de la taille des nanoparticules constituant le dimère: l'amortissement de Landau avec une proportionnalité inverse à la taille du système, et l’amortissement radiatif, proportionnel au volume du système. En utilisant les résultats de l'étude des dimères, nous avons étendu notre approche du système quantique ouvert pour étudier des chaînes de nanoparticules unidimensionnelles. Nous avons dérivé une équation maîtresse qui a été utilisée pour étudier la propagation des plasmons le long de la chaîne. Nous avons constaté que la propagation du plasmon est limitée que par les sources non radiatives d'amortissement. Enfin, nous avons dérivé l'expression analytique de la longueur de propagation d'un plasmon dans une chaîne de nanoparticules<br>We studied the electron dynamics in metallic nanoparticle arrays. We first considered the simplestarray i.e. a nanoparticle dimer. We found the eigenfrequencies of the heterogeneous dimer andthen we applied the open quantum system approach to describe the decay processes present inthe system. We investigated two decay processes which depend on the size of the nanoparticlesbuilding up the dimer : the Landau damping, inversly proportional to the system-size, and radiationdamping, proportional to the volume of the system. Using the results of the dimer study weextended our open quantum system approach to study one-dimensional nanoparticle chains. Wederived a master equation and used it to investigate the propagation of plasmons along the chain.We found that the propagation of the plasmon is limited by the non-radiative sources of damping.Finally we derived an analytical expression for the propagation length of a plasmon in ananoparticle chain

Les nanoparticules et nano alliages métalliques (dont la taille est inferieure à 10 nm) revêtent un grand intérêt dans de nombreuses applications, pour lesquelles un contrôle précis de la taille, de la composition et de la morphologie de ces objets sont requis. En effet, la diversité des compositions et des structures (taille, morphologie et arrangement atomique) offre une gamme presque illimitée de possibilités. Ce travail de thèse étend une approche développée au Laboratoire, qui consiste à former des nanoparticules métalliques de taille contrôlée (inférieure à 5 nm) par décomposition de précurseurs organométalliques dans des liquides ioniques. Une première avancée a consisté à utiliser cette voie de synthèse pour former des nanoparticules de métaux oxophiles, plus difficiles à obtenir, telles que des nanoparticules de tantale. Par ailleurs, il avait été démontré que le mélange de deux précurseurs organométalliques conduit à la formation de nanoparticules bimétalliques dont la taille, la structure et la composition sont bien définies, comme c'est le cas pour Ru@Cu. Dans cette thèse, le mécanisme de formation de ces nano alliages a été étudié et identifié. L'élucidation de ce mécanisme ouvre ainsi une voie vers la synthèse à façon pour des applications spécifiques de nano alliages tels que RuNi, RuTa, CuNi, etc<br>Small size (below 10 nm) metallic nanoparticles and metallic nanoalloys have attracted much interest in a range of applications, which require precise control of size, composition, and morphology, in chemically significant quantities. Hence, the variety of compositions and structures (size, morphology, atomic arrangement) bring a vast range of possibilities. This PhD was aimed at expanding the knowledge already obtained in this laboratory on monometallic nanoparticles. Indeed, it has been demonstrated that the decomposition of organometallic precursors in selected ionic liquids can lead to the formation of stable suspensions of metallic nanoparticles below 5 nm. In this context, a first achievement in this work has been to push this route towards more oxophilic, less approachable metals, such as tantalum. Besides, this route has been shown to generate bimetallic nanoparticles upon decomposition of mixtures of precursors, with size, structure and composition controlled, such as Ru@Cu. This PhD work has dentified the mechanism of formation of these nanoalloys, developing a versatile route that could be used to design nanoalloys to fulfill specific applications, e.g., RuNi, RuTa, CuNi, etc

Dans cette thèse, la synthèse, la caractérisation et les applications catalytiques préliminaires des nanoparticules mono- et bi-métalliques à base de rhénium sont présentées. Le Rhénium a été choisi compte tenu de la connaissance de sa contribution positive en termes d'activité catalytique et la sélectivité lors de l'hydrogénation des groupes fonctionnels difficiles. Les nanoparticules mono-métalliques de rhénium ont été préparées par décomposition du précurseur [Re2(C3H5)4]. Les nanoparticules bimétalliques ont été synthétisés par les co-décompositions ou deux étapes décomposition de deux complexes différents de rhénium, à savoir [Re2(CO)10] et [Re2(C3H5)4] avec d'autres complexes organométalliques tels que [Ru(COD)(COT)], [Ru(Me-allyl)2(COD)], [Pt(CH3)2(COD)] et [Pt(C7H10)3]. En choisissant la nature des complexes organométalliques et les conditions de réaction, des nanoparticules bi-métalliques à base de rhénium présentant des morphologies différentes peuvent être préparées quantitativement. La synthèse a été effectuée en solution sous pression de dihydrogène (3 bars) et en présence soit d'une polymère (polyvinylpyrrolidone), ou un ligand faiblement coordinant (hexadécylamine) comme des agents stabilisant. La caractérisation précise des nanoparticules ainsi obtenues a été réalisée en utilisant une combinaison de l'état de l'art des techniques de (WAXS, EXAFS, MET, HR-MET, METS-EDX, METS-HAADF, AE). Les études de réactivité de surface (réactions hydrogénation de norbornène, oxydation et adsorption CO) ont également été réalisées et suivies par des techniques spectroscopiques (RMN, FT-IR) pour déterminer leur état de surface et appréhender leur intérêt pour la catalyse. Par ce moyen, des informations utiles ont été obtenues sur leur chimie de surface, comme suit: 1) hydrures sont présents sur la surface métallique et sont très fortement coordonnés à la surface de rhénium en accord avec la chimie moléculaire de rhénium; 2) CO peut remplacer les hydrures et est également fortement coordonné à la surface, mais peut être substitué, oxydée ou dissocié. Ces réactions sont plus faciles sur des nanoparticules bi-métalliques à base de Re de type alliage. 3) Les NPs de rhénium pur et les alliages bimétalliques nanoparticules de ruthénium et rhénium affiche un état de base zéro et une coquille d'oxyde alors que les nanoparticules bimétalliques de type cœur-coquille ont une structure amorphe. L'originalité de ce travail réside sur le développement d'une approche systématique pour la préparation de nanoparticules à base de rhénium pour la première fois dans l'équipe et dans la littérature, en appliquant l'approche organométallique largement connu dans le groupe pour d'autres systèmes métalliques. Cette méthode est bien connu comme un moyen efficace d'obtenir des nanostructures bien contrôlées avec des surfaces propres ce qui est important principalement en catalyse<br>In this PhD thesis, the synthesis, characterization and preliminary catalytic application of rhenium based mono- and bi-metallic nanoparticles are reported. Rhenium has been chosen as a primary metal given the knowledge of its positive contribution in terms of catalytic activity and selectivity in the hydrogenation of difficult functional groups. Mono-metallic rhenium nanoparticles were prepared by decomposition of [Re2(C3H5)4]. Rhenium-based bimetallic nanoparticles were synthesized by co-decompositions or two-step decomposition of two different rhenium complexes, namely [Re2(CO)10] and [Re2(C3H5)4], with other organometallic complexes such as [Ru(COD)(COT)], [Ru(Me-Allyl)2(COD)], [Pt(CH3)2(COD)] and [Pt(C7H10)3]. By tuning the nature of organometallic complexes and the reaction conditions, rhenium-based bimetallic nanoparticles displaying different morphologies could be quantitatively prepared. The synthesis was carried out in solution under mild pressure of dihydrogen (3 bar) and in the presence of either a polymer (polyvinylpyrolidone) or a weakly coordinating ligand (hexadecylamine) as stabilizing agents. The precise characterization of the so-obtained nanoparticles was performed by using a combination of state-of-the art techniques (WAXS, EXAFS, TEM, HRTEM, STEM-EDX, STEM-HAADF, EA). Surface reactivity studies (norbornene hydrogenation, oxidation and CO adsorption reactions) were also carried out and followed by spectroscopic techniques (NMR, FT-IR) to determine their surface state and apprehend better their interest in catalysis. By this way, useful information could be obtained on their surface chemistry, as following: 1) Hydrides are present on the metallic surface and are very strongly coordinated to rhenium in agreement with rhenium molecular chemistry; 2) CO can substitute hydrides and is also strongly coordinated to the surface of Re but can react further to be substituted, oxidized or dissociated, where the latter is easier on alloy type Re-based bimetallic nanoparticles. 3) Oxidation of pure rhenium and alloy bimetallic ruthenium-rhenium nanoparticles display a zero state core and an oxide shell while core-shell type bimetallic nanoparticles result in amorphous structure. The originality of this work lies on the development of a systematic approach for the preparation of rhenium-based nanoparticles for the first time in the team and in the literature, by applying the organometallic approach largely experienced in the group for other metal systems. This method is well-known as an efficient way to obtain well-controlled nanostructures with clean surfaces, important mainly in catalysis

Cette thèse vise à développer de nouvelles méthodes efficaces pour incorporer des isotopes de l’hydrogène dans les molécules organiques complexes, après une introduction portant sur les applications et la synthèse des molécules marquées par le deutérium et tritium. Les méthodes permettant le marquage, par échange isotopique direct, d’hétérocycles azotés par des isotopes de l’hydrogène restent perfectibles, voire inexistantes dans certains cas, malgré la récurrence de ce type de sous-structures dans les molécules d’intérêt pharmacologique. Pour cette raison, la majeure partie de ce travail a consisté au développement de nouvelles méthodes d’incorporation d’atomes de deutérium et de tritium sur des hétérocycles azotés catalysées par des nanoparticules métalliques. Dans un premier chapitre, la mise au point, le champ d’application d’une méthode de marquage mettant en jeu l’utilisation de nanocatalyseurs de ruthénium seront discutés. Dans ce cadre, des calculs théoriques ont permis de rationaliser les regiosélectivités obtenues expérimentalement et d’identifier notamment des intermédiaires clefs inédits. D’un point de vue applicatif, cette méthode a permis de synthétiser des étalons internes deutérés pour la quantification LC-MS mais aussi des molécules complexes tritiées ayant des activités spécifiques élevées en une étape de synthèse. Dans un autre chapitre, la synthèse et la réactivité de nouveaux nanocatalyseurs de nickel permettant de réaliser des échanges isotopiques sélectifs seront discutés<br>This PhD thesis deals with the development of new efficient methods for the incorporation of hydrogen isotopes into organic molecules, which represents a serious issue especially for drug discovery and drug development processes. After giving an introduction about hydrogen isotopes and their applications in organic molecules, the course will proceed to an overview of different chemical transformations for establishing deuterium or tritium labels on molecular frameworks. The possibilities to label N-heterocycles by hydrogen isotopes through hydrogen isotope exchange (HIE) are still very restricted and even impossible for some representatives despite the strong recurrence of these substructures in numerous biologically active molecules. For this reason, the emphasis of the practical part will lie on the development of new methods for the incorporation of deuterium and tritium on N-heterocycles through metal nanoparticle catalysis. In the first chapter, HIE through ruthenium nanocatalysts will be optimized and the application range will be demonstrated. In this context, DFT-based calculations allowed to explain experimental regioselectivities and to identify new keyintermediates. In terms of application, it was shown that the ruthenium-catalyzed method is useful for the synthesis of deuterium labelled internal standards for LC-MS quantifications and for the tritiation of complex molecules displaying satisfying specific activities. In the next chapter, the synthesis of new nickel nanoparticles and their potential to catalyze selective HIE on N-heterocyclic derivatives will be discussed

Dans ce travail nous avons développé une nouvelle synthèse de nanoclusters d’or (AuNCs) stabilisés par des phosphines et des carbènes N-Hétérocycliques (NHCs) grâce à la réduction d’AuClPPh3 par NaBH4 en présence de sels d'imidazolium comme précurseurs de NHC. La plupart des nanoclusters synthétisés sont stabilisés par des PPh3. Cependant, il a été mis en évidence qu'un nanocluster Au11(PPh3)7(NHC)Br2+ très stable est synthétisé. Le suivi du vieillissement des échantillons par spectrométrie de masse par ionisation électrospray (ESI-MS), a montré l'évolution de la composition des suspensions au cours du temps. Ensuite, la deuxième synthèse a été réalisée par réduction de HAuCl4.3H2O par NaBH4 en présence de sels d'imidazolium et de NaH comme base. Des nanoclusters d'or stabilisés par des NHCs ont été obtenus avec différentes nucléarités d'or. Un fort effet du ligand NHC sur la nature des nanoclusters obtenus a été mis en évidence. La synthèse avec le sel d'imidazolium 1,3-didodécylimidazoliumbromide (C12-Br) a permis la formation de nanoclusters [Au13(C12)9Br3]2+ très stables. Enfin, la synthèse de nanoparticules d’Ag2S stabilisées par des NHC solubles dans l'eau a été rapportée. Le complexe argent-NHC a été synthétisé puis mis en présence d'une source de S2-. La synthèse par chauffage micro-ondes a donné des résultats prometteurs puisque des nanoparticules d'Ag2S émettant dans la deuxième fenêtre de l'infrarouge a été démontrée. En effet, il s'agit de la fenêtre de transparence des tissus biologiques qui présente un intérêt pour les applications biologiques<br>In this work we developed a new synthesis of phosphine and N-heterocyclic carbenes (NHCs)-stabilized gold nanoclusters (AuNCs) through the reduction of AuClPPh3 by NaBH4 in the presence of imidazolium salts as NHC precursors. The samples were characterized by various techniques, especially electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (ESI-MS). Most of the nanoclusters which were obtained are stabilized by PPh3. However, a very stable Au11(PPh3)7(NHC)Br2+ nanocluster was synthesized. The follow-up of the aging of the samples by ESI-MS showed the evolution of the composition of the suspensions over time. Less stable nanocluster structures did not remain in suspension with aging. Then, a second synthesis was performed by reduction of HAuCl4.3H2O by NaBH4 in the presence of imidazolium salts as NHC precursors and NaH as base. Gold nanoclusters stabilized by NHCs were obtained with different gold nuclearities. A strong effect of the NHC ligand on the nature of the obtained nanoclusters was revealed. Synthesis with the imidazolium salt 1,3-didodecylimidazoliumbromide (C12-Br) allowed the formation of very stable [Au13(C12)9Br3]2+ nanocluster. Finally, the synthesis of Ag2S nanoparticles stabilized by water-soluble NHCs has been reported. A silver-NHC complex was synthesized and then placed in the presence of an S2- source. The synthesis by microwave heating gave promising results since Ag2S nanoparticles emitting in the second infrared window was demonstrated. Indeed, this is the window of transparency of biological tissues which is of interest for biological applications

Les nanomatériaux hybrides organique-inorganique (nanocomposites) connaissent un intérêt croissant notamment grâce au développement de nouvelles méthodes permettant leur synthèse. Afin de moduler leurs propriétés, il est important de contrôler la nature chimique des constituants ainsi que leurs interactions. Dans le cadre de ce travail de thèse, nous avons mis en évidence une nouvelle approche de croissance et de structuration de nanoparticules métalliques (Pt, Ir, Au, etc.) en utilisant des polymères peptidiques comme ligands macromoléculaires. A l'instar des protéines, ces derniers sont constitués d'acides aminés et adoptent certaines structurations biomimétiques (hélice α ou feuillet β), un élément peu étudié pour promouvoir des nanocomposites.Ce travail commence par un travail de synthèse consistant à préparer une librairie de polymères peptidiques incorporant des points d'ancrage chimiques pour moduler leur association à des particules métalliques. Nous avons pour cela développé des réactions de greffage sur du poly(γ-benzyl-L-glutamate) (PBLG) avec différentes amines fonctionnalisées pour promouvoir une chimie de coordination spécifique avec les métaux de transitions.La deuxième partie de ce manuscrit décrit ensuite l'utilisation de ces polymères peptidiques comme matrice permettant la croissance contrôlée de nanoparticules métalliques (synthèse in situ). Nous avons ainsi mis en évidence que les polypeptides donnent accès à des nanoparticules hyperbranchées, résultant de la coalescence de nanocristaux ultra-petits, dont la morphologie peut être contrôlée en jouant sur les propriétés du polymère (degré de polymérisation, stœchiométrie des chaines latérales).Dans une dernière partie, les polymères peptidiques ont finalement été utilisés pour guider l'autoassemblage de nanoparticules métalliques préformées. Nous avons ainsi obtenu des structures lamellaires bidimensionnelles, dont la stabilité est assurée par des liaisons de coordination spécifiques entre les groupements fonctionnels du polymère et la surface des nanoparticules. En modulant la taille des polymères, il a été possible de contrôler l’espace entre les lamelles, une modification structurale clé qui permet de modifier les propriétés électriques des nanocomposites<br>Hybrid organic-inorganic nanomaterials (nanocomposites) are of growing interest due to the development of new synthesis. In order to modulate their properties, it is important to control the nature of the constituents and their interactions. Within the framework of this PhD thesis, we developed a new approach to prepare nanocomposites from metallic nanoparticles (Pt, Ir, Au, etc.) using peptidic polymers (polypeptides). Polypeptides are made up of amino acids and adopt biomimetic structures (α-helix or β-sheets) as do proteins. As macromolecular ligands, they have been understudied in nanocomposite design.This research work first describes how we have prepared a library of polypeptides incorporating tailored side chain moieties modulating the binding with metallic nanoparticles. Indeed, we have fully developed an efficient 2 steps grafting process to introduce onto poly(γ-benzyl-L-glutamate) (PBLG) backbones amines promoting specific coordination binding with transition metals.The second part of the PhD manuscript describes how these polypeptides can be used to promote the in-situ synthesis of metallic nanoparticles. A comprehensive study of this approach have shown that polypeptides give access to hyperbranched nanoparticles, resulting from the coalescence of ultra-small nanocrystals, whose morphology can be controlled by modulating the properties of the polymer (polymerization degree, side chain stoechiometry).Finaly, a third part of the PhD presents how peptidic polymers can direct the self-assembly of preformed metallic nanoparticles. Using specific formulations, we obtained two-dimensional lamellar structures, whose stability is ensured by specific coordination bonding between the functional groups of the polymer and the surface of the nanoparticles. By varying the molar mass of the polymers, it was possible to control the space between the lamellae, a key structural feature that allows the electrical properties of the nanocomposites to be changed

Dans cette thèse, la synthèse, la caractérisation et les applications en catalyse de nanoparticules mono- et bimétalliques à base de rhodium sont décrites. Le rhodium a été choisi comme métal central de cette étude en raison de son intérêt reconnu en catalyse, principalement pour les réactions d'hydrogénation et d'hydroformylation. La synthèse de nanoparticules de rhodium monométalliques constitue le coeur de ce travail. Elle a été réalisée par décomposition du complexe organométallique [Rh(C3H5)3] en solution, sous pression de dihydrogène et en présence de différents stabilisants tels que des ligands et des polymères pour contrôler la croissance des particules. Certaines nanoparticules ont été déposées sur la surface d'une silice magnétique fonctionnalisée par des groupements amines utilisée comme support, dans un objectif de récupération plus aisée pour le recyclage des catalyseurs. Diverses nanoparticules bimétalliques ont également été préparées par co-décomposition du complexe [Rh(C3H5)3] avec d'autres précurseurs organométalliques, incluant [Ni(cod)2], [Ru(cod)(cot)], [Pt(nor)3] et [Pd(dba)2]2. En modulant les ratios de métaux entre [Rh] et le second métal [M], ainsi que la nature et la quantité de stabilisant utilisé pour la synthèse, des nanoparticules de tailles et de compositions chimiques différentes ont pu être obtenues. La caractérisation des nanoparticules ainsi préparées a été menée en utilisant une combinaison de techniques de l'état de l'art (TEM, HRTEM, STEM-EDX, ICP, WAXS, EXAFS, XANES, XPS, RMN ...). Pour certaines nanoparticules de rhodium, des études de surface ont été réalisées, par adsorption du CO sur la surface des particules et un suivi par des techniques spectroscopiques (FT-IR, RMN) pour sonder leur état de surface. Un autre aspect de ce travail a concerné l'évaluation des nanoparticules synthétisées dans des réactions catalytiques, en particulier réactions d'hydrogénation avec des particules monométalliques de Rh et réaction d'hydrogénolyse avec des nanoparticules bimétalliques RhNiOx. Dans le cas de la catalyse d'hydrogénation, des études en conditions colloïdales et supportées ont été réalisées. L'originalité de ce travail réside dans le développement d'outils de synthèse simples inspirés de la chimie organométallique pour obtenir des nanoparticules à base de rhodium bien contrôlées en termes de taille, distribution en taille, composition et état de surface, tous ces paramètres étant importants quelle que soit l'application visée. L'intérêt des nanoparticules obtenues en catalyse a également été mis en évidence dans différentes réactions. Ce travail de thèse offre de nouvelles opportunités de recherche, tant en nanochimie qu'en catalyse<br>In this thesis, synthesis, characterization and catalytic applications of mono- and bi-metallic rhodium-based nanoparticles are reported. Rhodium has been chosen as a primary metal given its high interest in catalysis, mainly in hydrogenation and hydroformylation reactions. The synthesis of mono-metallic rhodium nanoparticles (NPs) is the core of this work. It was performed by decomposition of the organometallic complex [Rh(C3H5)3] in solution under dihydrogen pressure and in the presence of different stabilizers including ligands and polymers to control the growth of the particles. Selected nanoparticles were deposited on the surface of amino-functionalized magnetic silica as a support for recovery and recycling concerns in catalysis. Diverse bi-metallic nanoparticles have been also prepared in one-pot conditions by co-decomposition of the [Rh(C3H5)3] with other organometallic precursors including [Ni(cod)2], [Ru(cod)(cot)], [Pt(nor)3] and [Pd(dba)2]2. Tuning of the metal ratios between [Rh] and the second metal [M], or of the nature and the amount of the stabilizer used for the synthesis allowed to obtain nanoparticles of different sizes and chemical compositions. The characterization of the obtained nanoparticles was performed by using a combination of state-of-art techniques (TEM, HRTEM, STEM-EDX, ICP, WAXS, EXAFS, Xanes, XPS, NMR...). Surface studies were carried out in some cases, by adsorbing CO on the surface of the particles which was followed by spectroscopic techniques (FT-IR, NMR) to probe their surface state. Some of these nanoparticles were investigated in catalytic reactions, mainly hydrogenation with Rh NPs and hydrogenolysis for RhNiOx NPs. Both colloidal and supported catalytic studies were carried out in the case of hydrogenation catalysis. The originality of this work lies in the development of simple synthesis tools inspired from organometallic chemistry to get well-controlled rhodium-based nanoparticles in terms of size, size distribution, composition and surface state, all these parameters being important whatever the target application. The interest of the obtained nanoparticles in catalysis has been also evidenced in different reactions. This PhD work may open new opportunities of research both in nanochemistry and catalysis

Les nanoparticules métalliques ont des propriétés optiques uniques, dont le contrôle et l'optimisation ont un intérêt grandissant tant pour la recherche fondamentale qu'appliquée. Une propriété spectaculaire de ces nanoparticules est la résonance plasmon de surface localisé, qui est une conséquence des oscillations des électrons libres à l'interface métal/diélectrique.La position spectrale de la résonance plasmon est largement dépendante de la géométrie des nanoparticules, mais aussi de la constante diélectrique du milieu environnant. Un moyen pour contrôler cette résonance consiste donc à faire varier l'indice du milieu qui entoure les nanostructures. Les cristaux liquides nématiques sont un excellent moyen pour modifier et contrôler la résonance plasmon. En effet, par rotation des molécules du cristal liquide on peut induire un changement d'indice qui se traduit par un changement de la réponse optique des nanostructures. L'objectif de la thèse est de simuler des réseaux de nanoparticules d'or, dans un cristal liquide nématique afin de prédire l'influence de l'orientation du CL sur les propriétés optiques de ces nanostructures. Le formalisme numérique utilisé est basé sur la méthode des différences finies dans le domaine temporel (FDTD). Nous avons pris en compte les phénomènes d'ancrage des molécules aux interfaces avec la cellule contenant les cristaux liquides et les structures métalliques, et comparé les résultats avec le cas d'une orientation uniforme des molécules dans la cellule. La possibilité d'avoir une double résonance a été étudiée, ainsi que les gain SERS associés à ces structures spécifiques<br>Metal nanoparticles have unique optical properties, the control and optimization have a growing interest in fundamental research as same as applied research. A spectacular property of these nanoparticles is the localized surface plasmon resonance ( LSPR ), which is a consequence of the oscillations of free electrons at the interface between metal and dielectric.The spectral position of the plasmon resonance is largely dependent on the geometry of the nanoparticles, but also on the dielectric properties of the surrounding medium. It implies that the variation of the index of the medium surrounding the metallic nanostructures can control the LSPR resonance. Nematic liquid crystals are a great way to modify and control the plasmon resonance. Indeed, rotation of the liquid crystal molecules can induce a change in refractive index which results in a change in the optical response of the nanostructures. The aim of the thesis is to simulate arrays of gold nanoparticles in a nematic liquid crystal in order to predict the influence of the orientation of the LC molcules on the optical properties of these nanostructures. Numerical method we used is based on the finite difference time domain ( FDTD ) method. We have considered anchoring effects of molecules at the interfaces between the cell containing the liquid crystal and the substrates. And the results are compared with the case of uniform orientation of the LC molecules in the cell. The possibility of having double resonances was studied as well as the Surface Enhanced Raman Scattering (SERS ) gain associated with these specific structures

Les nanoparticules (NPs) sont un pilier de la nanotechnologie grâce à leurs propriétés distinctives. Composées souvent de métaux de transition, elles varient de deux à des milliers d'atomes. Cette thèse explore la simulation de ces nanoparticules, en se concentrant sur l'or, l'argent et le cuivre, avec des applications comme l'argent antibactérien ou l'or anticancéreux. Les ions argent interagissent avec l'ADN et la mitochondrie des bactéries, mais une concentration élevée peut être nocive. L'utilisation du thiol stabilise cette interaction en formant une monocouche auto-assemblée dense sur la surface. Différentes structures ont été trouvées selon le métal étudié. Pour l'or, deux structures existent : une adsorption simple (sqrt(3x3)) et une restructurée où les atomes d'or se placent entre les atomes de soufre. Pour l'argent, les thiols peuvent créer la structure sqrt(7x7) ou former un effet core@shell Ag2S. Cette étude vise à vérifier si les méthodes actuelles peuvent prédire ces phénomènes de restructuration et de stabilité des monocouches. La dynamique moléculaire est utilisée pour étudier des systèmes larges, avec le champ de force réactif ReaxFF permettant la cassure et la formation de liaisons pendant les simulations. Un logiciel appelé SAM Maker a été créé pour générer les différentes structures, intégré dans le package NATOMOS. Des structures d'argent (sqrt(7x7)) et d'or (sqrt(3x3)) ont été simulées avec du méthane et du butanethiolate. Le potentiel AgSCH a été utilisé pour étudier la stabilité en chauffant de 0 à 300K, avec des simulations de 0.3, 1 et 3 ns. ReaxFF a montré qu'il peut produire une monocouche stable de butanethiolates sur Ag(111), mais avec des différences pour l'or et l'argent. Les simulations ont révélé des assemblages denses de SAMs sur Ag(111) sans décomposition d'alkanothiolate. Aucune restructuration spontanée n'a été observée, sauf pour les NP inférieurs à 4 nm. À l'avenir, il serait intéressant d'étudier des surfaces d'argent restructurées avec des thiolates et de comparer leurs énergies de liaison.FeNNol, un programme Python, a été utilisé pour créer des potentiels plus précis. La collecte de 300 structures d'or (3 à 25 atomes) a été suivie de dynamiques moléculaires pour générer des structures uniques. Au total, 15 946 structures uniques ont été créées. Des calculs DFT avec la fonctionnelle PBE et la base Stuttgart ont fourni des références d'énergie et de forces pour le potentiel. Un préapprentissage avec ReaxFF a permis de stabiliser les surfaces d'or pur. Les nanoparticules de 2 nm et 4 nm ont donné 20 000 structures de référence. Des ajustements ont ensuite été effectués pour affiner le modèle avec les références DFT, assurant une description précise des clusters.Le modèle final a été testé sur le cluster Au20, montrant une bonne concordance avec la DFT pour les énergies de dissociation. Les distances et énergies des clusters ont été vérifiées, confirmant la précision du modèle. Un autre modèle plus précis a été créé pour des systèmes comprenant moins de 220 atomes d'or, permettant de prédire l'énergie des clusters et leurs distances. En conclusion, cette thèse a démontré l'efficacité des simulations basées sur ReaxFF pour prédire la stabilité des monocouches auto-assemblées sur l'argent. L'utilisation d'algorithmes d'apprentissage a permis de créer des potentiels plus précis pour l'or, ouvrant la voie à des simulations encore plus fiables et détaillées. Ces avancées contribuent à une meilleure compréhension des interactions à l'échelle nanométrique et offrent des perspectives intéressantes pour les applications futures des nanoparticules<br>Nanoparticles (NPs) have become a cornerstone of nanotechnology due to their distinctive physical, chemical, and biological properties. Often composed of transition metals, they range from groups of two to thousands of atoms. This thesis explores the simulation of these nanoparticles, focusing on gold, silver, and copper, which have applications such as antibacterial silver and anticancer gold. Silver ions interact with bacterial DNA and mitochondria, but high concentrations can be harmful. Thiol can stabilize this interaction by forming a dense self-assembled monolayer on the surface.Different structures have been found depending on the metal studied. For gold, there are two structures: a simple adsorption (sqrt(3x3)) and a restructured one where gold atoms place themselves between sulfur atoms. For silver, thiols can create the sqrt(7x7) structure or form a core@shell Ag2S effect. This study aims to determine if current methods can predict these restructuring and stability phenomena of the monolayers. Molecular dynamics is used to study large systems with the reactive force field ReaxFF, allowing bond breaking and formation during simulations. A software called SAM Maker was created to generate various structures, integrated into the NATOMOS package. Silver (sqrt(7x7)) and gold (sqrt(3x3)) structures were simulated with methane and butanethiolate. The AgSCH potential was used to study stability by heating from 0 to 300K, with simulations of 0.3, 1, and 3 ns. ReaxFF showed it could produce a stable butanethiolate monolayer on Ag(111), but with differences for gold and silver.Simulations revealed dense SAM assemblies on Ag(111) without alkanothiolate decomposition. No spontaneous restructuring was observed except for NPs smaller than 4 nm. Future studies should explore pre-restructured silver surfaces with thiolates and compare their binding energies.FeNNol, a Python program, was used to create more precise potentials. Collecting 300 gold structures (3 to 25 atoms) was followed by molecular dynamics to generate unique structures. In total, 15 956 structures have been created. DFT calculations with the PBE functional and Stuttgart basis provided energy and force references for the potential. A pre-training with ReaxFF stabilized gold surfaces. Nanoparticles of 2 nm and 4 nm provided 20,000 reference structures. Adjustments refined the model with DFT references, ensuring accurate cluster descriptions.The final model was tested on the Au20 cluster, showing good agreement with DFT for dissociation energies. Cluster distances and energies were verified, confirming the model's accuracy. Another more precise model was created for systems with less than 220 gold atoms, predicting cluster energy and distances. In conclusion, this thesis demonstrated the effectiveness of ReaxFF-based simulations in predicting the stability of self-assembled monolayers on silver. Using learning algorithms created more accurate potentials for gold, leading to more reliable and detailed simulations. These advances contribute to a better understanding of nanoscale interactions and offer promising prospects for future nanoparticle applications

Targeted therapeutics are considered next generation cancer therapy because they overcome many limitations of traditional chemotherapy. Cancerous cells may be targeted by various hyaluronic acid modified nanovehicles that kill these cells. Particularly, hyaluronic acid and its derivatives bind with high affinity to cell surface protein, CD44 enriched tumor cells. Moreover, these molecules have the added advantage of being biocompatible and biodegradable, and may be conjugated with a variety of drugs and drug carriers for developing various formulations as anti-cancer therapies such as nanogels, self-assembled and metallic nanoparticulates. In this chapter, we have covered various aspects of hyaluronic acid-modified delivery systems including strategies for synthesis, characterization, and biocompatibility. Next, the use of hyaluronic acid-modified systems as anti-cancer therapies is discussed. Finally, the delivery of small molecules, and other pharmaceutical agents are also elaborated in this chapter.

Abstract Evidence of catastrophic choke failure in a few hours, when deployed downstream of wellhead, upstream of cyclonic sand traps, constrains operators on placement to protect mission critical expensive production equipment. This potentially leads to exposure of site personnel to high pressures and temperatures when dumping sand, and the frequent replacement of chokes due to high velocity sand erosion. To increase mean time between failures (MTBF) of the components discussed above, a multi prong approach is warranted with intelligent design changes to made to overcome these frequent failures. Design reviews with operators and end customers, including root cause failure analysis, have helped resolve part of underlying problems. With the advent of bulk nanomaterials, abrasion resistant nanocomposites with tailored properties: strength, modulus thus apposite hardness, abrasion aka erosion resistance, and fracture toughness surpassing properties of commercial cemented carbides have been proposed as a key alternate to help bridge this challenging technology gap. For extreme wear, we have adapted a powder metallurgy approach. Here we present, the design of nanocomposites wherein the base material may be a combination of ultra-hard, heavy nanoparticulates having multi nanophase inclusions with grain size varying between 100 nm to submicron grains (800 nm), coated Polycrystalline Diamond (PCD) to prevent graphitization during consolidation abetted by high pressures and temperatures and Cubic Boron Nitride (CBN). Salient American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) G65 standard abrasion tests on bulk solids have shown superior performance up to ten fold (10X) improvement over High Velocity Oxygen Fuel (HVOF) Tungsten carbide (WC) coatings and overlays and a two- to five- fold (2 to 5X) improvement over traditional bulk WC*. The rationale for the predicted high erosion resistance of the abrasion resistant nanocomposite (ARn-C) sample in the ASTM G65 test is due to the defect free sintered carbide with proprietary High Entropy Alloy/Bulk Metallic Glass (HEA/BMG) binders at elevated consolidation temperatures, under pressure. The first embodiment, a choke bean for high pressure gas well, was deployed and field trials performed in H2 2023, wherein venturi choke beans survived placement downstream of wellhead in aggressive field trials and outperformed commercial counterparts. 24/64 and 32/64 venturi choke beans were introduced alongside their commercial counterparts in the field. Our unique design intelligently places vena-contracta, where maximum velocity (and lowest pressure) is evident, away from metallic outer sleeve of choke bean, unlike the conventional design. This is one of the rationale, designed venturi choke bean survived days of flow in an extreme abrasive stream, while conventional bean failed in a few hours. Multiple designs of choke beans are now matured, embodiments manufactured and awaiting final field trials before commercialization. ASTM G65 tests, Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and field trials have allowed us calibrate erosion profile of ARn-C, optimize the design, include eddy breakers and deflector in the venturi exhaust to tailor flow. One of many designs is a superior, however economized offering to participate in current competitive landscape. The focus of our paper is detailing a structured engineering approach to develop a solution for choke beans while outlining other technology gaps to be bridged using ARn-C. Re-design choke beans offers significantly increased operating life and lower MTBF. Nanocomposites stemming from a metal-matrix, polymeric or a combination thereof or an agglomeration of nanocrystalline particulates exhibiting novel properties are unique. Designed venturi choke bean allows 5 to 15% increase flow compared to conventional commercial choke bean due to its efficient venturi design. *Patents-Pending.
