The topic I have chosen for my diploma thesis is the curation of architecture as a possible overlap of teaching architecture towards the general public, but also a tool for connecting academic and municipal institutions. In my work I will examine the possibilities of creating an architecture center within the Faculty of Architecture, BUT. Galleries and museums of architecture, and thus various other associations and groups dealing with architecture, often function as separate institutions. I decided to solve the creation of a similar center, which as such has been missing in the Czech environment for many years, through its placement in academia. In my work I will first focus on the theoretical study of the possibilities of presentation and representation of architecture together with new approaches in the field of exhibition and curation of architecture. Subsequently, I will deal with the possibilities of connecting the activities of the Center of Architecture and the Faculty of Architecture. The aim of the work will be a practical design of the center within the BUT campus, for which I chose a space near Veveří Street in Brno, also known as Academic Square. For me to design the center, it will be important for me to analyze the place and find possibilities for its new concept. Today, the space of the Academic Square is in a state of disrepair and is waiting for an important gesture that can unite the place. Can it be the center of architecture?

The main subject of the thesis is a revision of current area framing northwest part of Žerotín Square, that nowadays consists of so called White house (center for children health care and a seat of a medical school). The design is based on theoretical situation concerning the removal of White house and therefore it uses the newly existing place as a subject for new architectural solution. The solution emphasizes the completion of current block of buildings with large courtyard and corner between Žerotín Square and Veveří street, which is very important for traffic. The thesis is focusing on finding the right form, scale and functional content which would reflect the importance of the location, especially focusing on the Brno’s ring road that goes directly to Denisovy sady and accessibility of this city’s part. It also respects the design of the back side of the Red Church. The design uses the newly existing place as a location for new apartment building that reflects the scale of similar buildings in Marešov and other nearby streets and it also proposes administration building as an architectural solution for this location, which would be used as a seat for both municipal and national institutions.

The current situation in the historic centre of Prague does not allow for interference in the behaviour of investors. The tools for protection of Prague Historic Reservation are insufficient. Much of the real estate is not used and becomes ruins, resulting in an irreplaceable cultural and social, but also economic loss to the Prague Historical Reservation which is on the UNESCO World Cultural and Natural Heritage List. The aim of this thesis is to analyse the current state of Prague Historic Reservation as well as to suggest possible solutions. Analyses, own research, interviews and statistics have been used to prove the situation. There is a part of the thesis comparing the current state with other cities abroad (e.g. Vienna, Dresden, Cologne, Paris).

This master thesis deals with the history of the Capuchin order in Czech-Moravian territory during 1618-1673. The Czech-Austrian Capuchin province was established in 1618 and in 1673 was divided into Czech and Austrian part which led to formation of two individual provinces of the Capuchin order. The first chapter of the master thesis introduces the review of existing literature that deals with this theme and the characterization of sources. This chapter is focused on narrative sources that are fundamental for this master thesis. In the second chapter, the Capuchin order is characterized (with the emphasis on the structure and formation) and its history, because this information explains the behaviour of Capuchins in the Czech-Moravian territory. We could not omit the Franciscan order and its history in this passage, because these also influenced the orientation and spirituality of the Capuchin order. The whole history of the Czech-Austrian Capuchin province is comprised in the third chapter. This period witnessed a significant progress in admission of new members of the Capuchin order. Full Name: Marek Brčák Thesis title: Capuchin Order and its activities in Bohemia and Moravia between 1673-1783 Abstract This dissertation deals with the history of the Capuchin order in Czech-Moravian territory during 1673-1783. The year of the establishment of the Czech-Moravian Capuchin province is 1673. In 1783, this province was divided into a Czech and a Moravian province; this led to the establishment of two new independent provinces of the Capuchin order. At the same time the upper time limit coincided with the religious reforms of Joseph II., which had essential influence on activities of the Capuchin order. The first chapter introduces a review of the existing secondary literature that deals with this theme, analysing and explaining the methodology used in the thesis. The second chapter describes historiography and archival databases that existed in the Czech-Moravian Capuchin province, which contributed to the formation of collective memory. This chapter also portrays concrete institutions which keep records in their archives on the history of the Capuchin order.
