Full textTo study mental disorder the first instinct is to turn to medicine, especially psychiatry. However, the law does have some sort of connection with this theme and the following study aims at comprehending the legal treatment of mental disorder. Based on the polysemy of the word “treatment” we will analyze the different ways the law deals with mental disorder and the level of freedom to which the mentally ill are entitled. As the most commonly accepted meaning of the word “treatment” refers to the way a person is addressed, the purpose of the following study will be to understand how the law deals with the mentally ill as well as the difference of attention given to the patients who are committed to a mental institution and those who are detained in prison. As the second meaning of the word refers to the way of solving a problem, this study will focus on how lawmakers reacted to the convictions passed by the European Court of Human Rights and to the unconstitutionality rulings rendered by the French constitutional judge. The second meaning of the word will also enable to study the root causes of the phenomenon of communicating vessels between mental institutions and prisons. We will see that the borders between law and psychiatry are porous; that is why the study will aim at analyzing the connections between law and psychiatry as well as their consequences on the mentally ill. The attitude towards sick people will depend entirely on the relationships between the two subjects. By giving a legal framework to psychiatry, the law attempts to promote access to healthcare and to reassert the value of individual freedom. On the other hand, psychiatry will influence the law, which will have to put in place systems to monitor and keep the mentally sick under control. The study of the legal treatment of mental disorder. Essay on the connections between law and psychiatry is at the core of the encounter between antagonistic values and concepts. Right and duty, freedom and safety, accountability and unaccountability, or care and punishment interconnect in a complex and interesting theme

Full textThis work aims to increase knowledge of the mental preparation before important musical performances amongst art musical wind musicians. By examining how professional musicians operate mentally before, during and after the concerts, the intention is to isolate successful thought patterns and mental strategies. In the search for previous research and books, I discovered that little research has been conducted in this particular area. I have read and summarized a number of books that discuss the nature of being nervous, and various strategies that can be applied to deal with nervousness.Proceeding, while using the qualitative interview as a method, I interviewed four professional wind musicians in the art musical genre.None of those interviewed claimed to use any special mental tricks. The musicians have essentially taught themselves how to prepare on a mental level. However, I found a clear parallel between the thoughts respondents took advantage of before the musical performances, and the psychological strategies presented in the literature in the field.3The study is not extensive enough to draw any general conclusions in the field, yet indicates that mental preparation is not to be viewed as something alien, but rather a strategy in promoting the individual's musical approach. The mental preparation is so well integrated into the musician's daily practicing that it can sometimes be difficult to distinguish between them.

Full textTo many people, resting physically is a matter of course, however, mental recovery is rarely talked about. Both are important and have major impact on performance and health. In this study, the aim is to investigate athletes experiences of mental recovery. In order to find out, we have conducted qualitative interviews. In what way the respondents receive recovery, how they are affected by the absence of mental recovery and if these athletes experience a connection between the absence of mental recovery and mental illness is presented in the results. When we analyzed the results of the interviews, we used content analyses. We concluded that all respondents receive recovery by thinking about other things than sport and by doing activities that are fun. In the absence of mental recovery, the majority experienced a deterioration in performance and a negative impact on health. The respondents described a link between mental illness and the absence of mental recovery. There is limited research in this area, but the results were consistent with previous research available today.

Full textMental accounting, defined as the process whereby consumers code, categorize, and evaluate economic outcomes in the form of mental “budgets” (Thaler 1980; 1985), has been encouraged as a strategy to aid individuals in the regulation of finances and other resources. However, far less research has examined the pitfalls of mental accounting. Essay 1 investigates how mental accounting can lead to suboptimal decisions for others. We propose a novel hypothesis to understand an effect we term “mental stealing,” whereby mental accounts focus individuals on budgets so much that they forgo gifts that a gift-recipient would like. Essay 2 investigates how mental accounting for windfalls (i.e., unexpected gains in wealth) can lead to suboptimal spending on the self. We propose that expense categorizations are retroactively malleable, and can lead to overspending of windfalls. In total, the two essays of this dissertation enhance our study of consumer behavior by documenting new effects of mental accounts. And, in the process of documenting these new effects, this dissertation informs the mental accounting literature by identifying when mental accounting leads to suboptimal outcomes for both others and the self.

The American Psychiatric Association criteria for differential psychiatric diagnoses (DSM III-R) do not exhaust the list of socially problematic behaviors displayed by the mentally ill. The extent to which such behaviors influence a person's "career" as a deinstitutionalized patient is the major topic of this study. Fiscal crises and changing public commitments have reduced support to those with severe mental illness who are deinstitutionalized, increasing the importance of understanding how degrees of competence at activities of daily living and the extent of socially problematic behaviors affect their participation in the community. The concept Interactive Competence was developed on the basis of the writer's clinical experience and a review of the literature on community adjustment of persons with severe mental illness. The concept characterizes the social functioning of persons diagnosed as mentally ill, and includes demonstration of self-care (ADL) skills and self-management skills (trouble in relationships). Secondary analysis was performed on data from a 1984 probability sample of clients in Community Support Programs for seriously mentally ill adults. Factor analysis reduced items in the original instrument, The Uniform Client Data Instrument, to scales measuring Interactive Competence. Only persons with the diagnosis of Schizophrenia or Affective Disorders were studied (n=824 of 1053), excluding diagnoses which were diverse in nature and infrequent in occurrence. Bivariate correlation and regression techniques were used to test the major hypotheses: 1) Schizophrenics demonstrate less Interactive Competence than those with the diagnosis of Affective Disorder; 2) the greater the chronicity (length of time in the social role as a patient from point of first diagnosis) the less Interactive Competence; 3) lower level of Interactive Competence is associated with a lower level of mental health service utilization. Monitoring Interactive Competence self-care (ADL) skills and selfmanagement skills (trouble in relationships) provides new insights about the service utilization of the severely mentally ill and their families. Schizophrenics had less the Interactive Competence than those with Affective Disorders; those with lower scores on Interactive Competence used more services; family involvement influenced clients' use of crisis assistance services and urgent care services.

Full textThe mental health care of women is an issue in dual intervention especially for those of reproductive age as the very condition of motherhood brings risks to women of developing major diseases impacting the care of the children. The scope of mental illness in addition to biological components involve the relationships between people and between people and their life contexts and, accordingly, the practitioners have expanded their actions beyond treatment through medication. And it is not without great difficulty that the proposition of these services has been put into practice. The law says that municipalities must submit projects for the services they intend to deploy and, with regard to mental health, open services have been encouraged, in line with the policies established from the reform movement in assistance. In the present study investigated how was the entry of women in the service of a city in the state of Minas Gerais. We randomly selected 30 women as criteria for inclusion and exclusion of a total of 79. Of these 30, we were able to contact and interview 21 was used feature of semi structured interviews with focus on the following topics: reasons for seeking assistance related life situations the symptoms of mental illness impact on their lives and perceptions about the care received. The results were presented considering the characterization of participants and in accordance with the objectives; the data on the topics covered in the interviews were presented. As for socio demographic characteristics found that most participants living with partner, have 1-5 children aged 4 months to 20 years old do not work outside the home today, but has worked; the predominant age group was 30-34 years; education incomplete primary education, self-declared white skin color, derived from the same town where the study was conducted. The initial symptoms reported by participants which led them to seek the assistance were physical changes, headache, rapid heartbeat, among others; psychological, sadness, depression and behavioral seek isolation, neglect care for children, among others. The diagnoses received were predominantly anxiety disorders and depression. Life situations that, in the perception of the participants, were related to marital conflicts, illness and drug use of family members. How this impacted on their lives was linked to conflicts at work and in the family. The assistance received is seen as very good, but limited by only having one professional responsible for it. It is centered in the medicine but is also seen as a space that can be listened to and oriented. Beside the specialized medical resource also appears the religious context as a means of support for dealing with problems. The study found similar results to those of other studies and can also provide elements to the specific context in which it was developed for the organization of medical care

Full textEriksson. C. (2010). How can mental top form be reached? Sport psychology consultants approach to mental training. Bachelor Thesis in Public Health. Gävle University, Academy of health and working life. The purpose of this study was to examine sport psychology consultants perceptions about mental training, and how they believe that mental top form could be achieved. Qualitative interviews were used as method. In total, five informants participated in the study. The result that emerged was that the informants felt that mental top form is about creating a balance between all parts of life. Trust for himself and his character was also important as well as the ideas you have. Becoming aware of the thought processes and learn to control those in a favorable direction is important. The basis for achieving mental top form was considered to bring the basic tension in the body. It was important to have clear goals. It was also essential to provide continuity in the mental training to achieve results. A powerful tool to use was considered to be the goal images, which means to see pictures of yourself for your inner that you want to work in different situations. Furthermore, it was important to stop and get to know yourself and your needs. Mental strength was considered to be the deciding factor when all other variables are equivalent. Should all work out mentally, it would be a higher minimum level because everyone would emerge. The conclusion of this study is that the mental training techniques used in sport can also be transferred to other contexts and to other groups of people to create mental health. But it is difficult to determine precisely which techniques each one needs because all seek out different things and all have different needs. It is of great importance to the mental workout is tailored to the individual's needs.

Full textIn my dissertation I look at mental representations and cognitive processes that underlie mental arithmetic in the marketplace. This research contributes to behavioral pricing literature by outlining novel factors that influence consumers’ price difference judgments. Particularly, I uncover factors that make consumers more or less likely to fall prey to the left-digit anchoring bias (Essay 1) and factors that determine their tendency to rely on relative thinking in price difference evaluations (Essay 3). Further, this research provides new insights to the mental budgeting literature by identifying mental computation strategies that lead to more accurate basket price estimates (Essay 2). Overall, I expect my research to contribute to our understanding of consumers’ price judgments and suggest contexts and strategies leading to more accurate price evaluations

_______________________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACT
The present dissertation has as objective an investigation of the theoretical systemization concerning the madness starting from the current bioethics speech. A qualitative research was developed, using the technique of published and systematic indexed scientific article revision in databases. One searched to explicit the existing relation enters the fields of the bioethics and of the mental health and after that, to contextualized the found results, it was analyzed history of the conception of madness and the traditionally used treatments for its confrontation. The obtained results indicate great variety of related themes, although of incipient systemization: autonomy and determination of competence of the mental patients; genetic prediction of mental diseases; guilt levels; public politics of mental health; therapeutics and psychiatric ethics; prejudice and stigma of the disease and of the mental patient. The text suggests a larger discussion about the madness and mental health in the field of the bioethics and he wants to contribute to improve knowledge at this theme.

Full textResumo: Introdução: A competência de juízo moral, baseada na teoria de Lawrence Kohlberg, tem sido estudada por muitos pesquisadores para avaliar o desenvolvimento moral de adolescentes e adultos.
