Abstract:
Practicum is one of the academic activities that must be carried out by students at Gunadarma University. It's not just one department that does practicums, but all majors do practicums. One of the practicums that students must do is the Informatics Engineering Laboratory which is intended for students of the Faculty of Industrial Technology. In practicums in several majors, including practicum in the Informatics Engineering Laboratory, if the practitioner does not take part in the practicum for any reason, except for getting a special case, they must make a memo as the practitioner's identity to take part in the practicum again. To make a memo, the practitioner must come to the Informatics Engineering Laboratory Staff room to make a memo. The practitioner can make memos if the practitioner follows the specified time to make memos. Not only does the memo maker have to comply with the time the memo is written, but taking memos also must comply with the time the memo is taken. It can take quite a long time to get the memo because you have to come on time to the Informatics Engineering Laboratory Staff room and wait to pick up the memo. Therefore, the author took the initiative to create a mobile application called "Online Memo Application (E-Memo) Android Based Informatics Engineering Laboratory". With this application, the practitioner can make memos anywhere and anytime and also the practitioner can come to the Informatics Engineering Laboratory Staff room to validate the memo which is useful for checking the authenticity of the memo. This application is made with the Dart programming language with the Flutter framework. This application is also made using Android Studio and Firebase as a place to accommodate data on practitioners who have made memos. This application runs on Android Version 5.0 with the code name Nougat and above.

Carpenter, Chris. "Natural Language Processing Increases Accuracy of Kick, Lost-Circulation Detection." Journal of Petroleum Technology 75, no. 07 (July 1, 2023): 78–80. http://dx.doi.org/10.2118/0723-0078-jpt.

Abstract:
_ This article, written by JPT Technology Editor Chris Carpenter, contains highlights of paper SPE 206340, “Natural Language Processing Applied to Reduction of False and Missed Alarms in Kick and Lost-Circulation Detection,” by Michael Yi, Pradeepkumar Ashok, SPE, and Dawson Ramos, Intellicess, et al. The paper has not been peer reviewed. _ Kick and lost-circulation events are major contributors to nonproductive time. In the absence of good flow-in and flow-out sensors, pit-volume trends offer the best possibility for influx and loss detection, but errors occur because external mud addition and removal to the pits is not monitored or sensed. In the complete paper, the authors introduce a method that uses a Bayesian network to aggregate trends detected in time-series data with events identified by natural language processing of driller memos, thereby improving significantly the accuracy and robustness of kick and lost-circulation detection. Methodology The objective of this project was to develop a model to detect and quantify kick and lost-circulation events using readily available real-time surface signals. This model used drilling memos to supplement real-time surface signals. Fig. 1 shows the general work flow to create a lost-circulation- and kick-detection model using drilling-memo comments and Bayesian networks. Consumption of Drilling Memos. While real-time channels provide insight into potential kick and lost-circulation events, drilling memos provide additional details regarding events that could affect these real-time channels. By consuming the drilling memos and providing the rig a relationship and direct communication with the kick and lost-circulation models, the algorithm can use both surface channels and textual information from the memos to identify such events. Note that these drilling memos are also consumed in real-time. The drilling-memo data used included two channels, Date/Time and Drilling Memo. In total, 494,726 drilling memos from 271 wells were used. The data set first needed to be labeled into memo types. Given the size and many varieties of the drilling memos, a semisupervised method was used to develop a classifier to categorize the drilling memos. First, the memos were preprocessed to improve the model’s ability to cluster similar memos. This involved the following changes: - Conversion of similar words to assist with clustering - Removal of special characters - Removal of numbers - Removal of punctuation - Stemming (the process of reducing inflected or derived words to the base form) - Removal of stop words - Removal of extra white space and tabs - Lower-casing of all words The data was then clustered using a K-means clustering algorithm with 100 clusters. Many clusters were selected in order to create a large number of differentiating groups because of the variety of drilling memos provided in the data. Once clusters were generated, each cluster was grouped into classified memo types, which, in turn, provided labels for the drilling memos that fell into each cluster. For the memo data set, the 100 clusters were categorized into 34 different memo types. Drilling memos that contained text indicating they should be categorized into a certain memo type were processed separately through custom scripts.

Abstract:
Background Cognitive and behavioral symptoms are the clinical hallmarks of neurocognitive disorders. Cognitive training may be offered to reduce the risks of cognitive decline and dementia and to reduce behavioral symptoms, such as apathy. Information and communication technology approaches, including serious games, can be useful in improving the playful aspect of computerized cognitive training and providing motivating solutions in elderly patients. Objective The objective of this study was to assess the effectiveness of employing the MeMo (Memory Motivation) Web app with regard to cognitive and behavioral symptoms in patients with neurocognitive disorders. Methods MeMo is a Web app that can be used on any Web browser (computer or tablet). The training activities proposed in MeMo are divided into the following two parts: memory and mental flexibility/attention. The study included 46 individuals (mean age 79.4 years) with a diagnosis of neurocognitive disorders at the Institut Claude Pompidou Memory Center in Nice. This randomized controlled study compared the evolution of cognition and behavior between patients not using MeMo (control group) and patients using MeMo (MeMo group) for 12 weeks (four sessions per week). Patients underwent memory and attention tests, as well as an apathy assessment at baseline, week 12 (end of the training period), and week 24 (12 weeks after the end of the training sessions). In addition, to assess the impact of high and low game uses, the MeMo group was divided into patients who used MeMo according to the instructions (about once every 2 days; active MeMo group) and those who used it less (nonactive MeMo group). Results When comparing cognitive and behavioral scores among baseline, week 12, and week 24, mixed model analysis for each cognitive and behavioral score indicated no significant interaction between testing time and group. On comparing the active MeMo group (n=9) and nonactive MeMo group (n=13), there were significant differences in two attention tests (Trial Making Test A [P=.045] and correct Digit Symbol Substitution Test items [P=.045]) and in the Apathy Inventory (AI) (P=.02). Mixed analysis (time: baseline, week 12, and week 24 × number of active days) indicated only one significant interaction for the AI score (P=.01), with a significant increase in apathy in the nonactive MeMo group. Conclusions This study indicates that the cognitive and behavioral efficacies of MeMo, a Web-based training app, can be observed only with regular use of the app. Improvements were observed in attention and motivation. Abstract:
This article has analyzed the artworks, the general creative principles, and approaches connected with machine learning and neural networks. The idea that the computer can replace humans for deciding routine, algorithmic, and even analytical tasks, has raised the question about the uses of machines for creative jobs. This process forms new possibilities, non-obvious images, themes, and expressions, which require the addition and refinement of the classification of computer art. As a result, artists have found another system for describing reality represented in the artworks. From 2018-2021 many artists such as Mario Klingemann, Gene Kogan, Vadim Epstein, Anna Ridler, and Memo Akten used machine learning in their art practice. Their artworks in this genre have been to the biennales or many contemporary art exhibitions in Austria, the USA, Russia, Switzerland, Germany, etc.

Abstract:
The memos considered in the article in the 1930s, in the form of a special document, became possible with the onset of a certain stabilization in the evolution of the regulation of the activities of loaders in commercial ports During this period, «memo» is a special kind of information and rationing, in some cases created taking into account and relying on existing, mainly local, regulatory legal acts. The purpose of such a document is to directly guide its user for use in appropriate conditions. Memos, as you know, are informational, recommendatory, i.e. such that they are not responsible for the violation of the provisions contained in them, or binding. The latter, usually, have such features as locality-action on a certain territory, or in relation to a group of persons, but their most important feature is normative fixedness, i.e. they are fixed in the form of a document adopted and put into effect often in an arbitrary order; the presence of a selection of norms included in the memo from other normative acts, selected and compiled for investing the production of any type of work, or managing them. One of the goals of the development and introduction of memos is to give a narrowly defined circle of participants in specific relationships a certain set of the most necessary rules and calculations, always «at hand», a hint for the order of actions. In the conditions of the complicated technology of loading and unloading operations, a high degree of injury risk, low literacy of the bulk of movers, such acts should be recognized as very useful.

Abstract:
This study presents the use of web SMS technology as an alternative method for primary school notification system. By integrating the system with SMS gateway, it will enable the primary school notification system to send information to parents’ mobile phone directly. The traditional methods of notifying parents about the school matters by sending letter and written memo are time consuming and the updated information may not reach the parents. This integration allows information to be disseminated from computer to mobile phone at any time without requiring face to face meeting or the use of other media such as paper-based notice or verbal notice from the students. Furthermore, parents can always be alert and aware of the latest announcement or information no matter where they are. A usability testing was conducted to 20 users to survey the feedback on SMS technology to notify parents. The results from the testing stated that 100% of users give positive feedback about the ease of use and satisfied that the system can replace old systems. Based on the results, it shows that the integration of primary school notification system with SMS technology is highly recommended.

Abstract:
Twenty-one subjects completed two sets of (8) laps around a 7.5-mile test track during two 4-hour sessions. They drove an instrumented vehicle while performing a combination of car following, peripheral target detection, and secondary (in-vehicle) tasks of varying complexity. Subjects performed one set of laps with each of two interfaces, voice-based and visual/manual. Secondary tasks comprised three categories including baseline tasks (radio tuning, phone dialing), simple tasks (message retrieval plus voice memo creation), and complex tasks (simple task components plus phone dialing and information retrieval from automated phone systems). Measures of driving performance, target-detection, secondary task performance and eye movements were recorded. Analyses were conducted to determine whether the voice-based interface reduced the relative distraction potential for secondary tasks of varying complexity. Generally, differences between tasks were stronger than differences between interface conditions. Measures of car-following performance, target detection, and secondary task performance revealed differences attributable to task complexity. Differences between the two interfaces were observed on peripheral target detection measures and on several driving performance measures. Overall, the benefits of using the voice-based interface were not large enough to appreciably reduce the distraction potential associated with performing the secondary tasks in the car-following scenario.

Abstract:
On August 17, 2010, Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Janet Napolitano signed a memorandum directing an evolution of the National Exercise Program (NEP). The Memo emphasized the importance of the NEP for strengthening and evaluating our nation’s preparedness and reinforced core statutory and regulatory guidance. While the NEP has traditionally focused on national-level exercises, the revised NEP should serve the full homeland security enterprise. This article suggests a direction for evolution of the proposed NEP. It describes how exercise components and stakeholders operate and how they might be better synchronized using methodical system engineering and the careful application of innovative science and technology. Central to aligning and integrating subsystems into a coherent, synergistic whole is the concept of “interface.” System interfaces focus on describing common standards and protocols by which system components relate, interact, and share information. The authors identify five process interfaces from the Secretary’s Memo and describe system architecting principles that could improve NEP flexibility, cost-effectiveness, and robustness. Systems engineering methodologies provide time-proven approaches to describe system characteristics and behavior in ways that facilitate the development of effective interfaces—interfaces that promote overall systems efficiency and provide a basis for measuring and tracking systems performance. This harmonization of information promotes the application of modeling and simulation, which, in turn, promote greater exercise realism and efficiency and create a scientific environment in which to explore and experiment with new concepts and technologies.

Abstract:
Objective: To explore how technologies are used and experienced in rehabilitation. Design: A qualitative study using a grounded theory approach within a randomized controlled trial investigating the effectiveness of tailored, affordable technologies to improve mobility and physical activity. Settings: Aged care and neurological rehabilitation wards with community follow-up. Participants: Twenty patients undergoing rehabilitation and randomized to the experimental arm of a trial (mean age 64 years (SD 23)) were recruited for interviews, plus 11 physiotherapists involved in technology prescription as part of the trial. Method: Two interviews per patient (one in hospital, one post-discharge) and four focus groups with physiotherapists were conducted. Transcribed data were coded and synthesized. Memo-writing and constant comparison methods guided data analysis. Results: A process of patient engagement with technology involving two stages: (1) initial patient engagement and (2) maintaining patient engagement was identified. Therapists used a series of steps and strategies to gain and maintain patient engagement. A positive first experience and continued input into patient programmes was needed. The level of patient engagement was not consistent across the duration of the trial, increasing or decreasing due to changes in the technologies prescribed or setting of use. Two conditions were key to optimizing patient engagement: sufficient support and perceived benefit from using technology. Conclusions: Patients can engage with technology during rehabilitation when prescription is tailored by a therapist. Perceiving benefit from using technology, in addition to receiving the right support to enable use appears to influence the level of patient engagement.

Abstract:
Federal funding agencies in the United States (U.S.) continue to work towards implementing their plans to increase public access to funded research and comply with the 2013 Office of Science and Technology memo Increasing Access to the Results of Federally Funded Scientific Research. In this article we report on an analysis of research data sharing policy documents from 17 U.S. federal funding agencies as of February 2021. Our analysis is guided by two questions: 1.) What do the findings suggest about the current state of and trends in U.S. federal funding agency data sharing requirements? 2.) In what ways are universities, institutions, associations, and researchers affected by and responding to these policies? Over the past five years, policy updates were common among these agencies and several themes have been thoroughly developed in that time; however, uncertainty remains around how funded researchers are expected to satisfy these policy requirements.

Abstract:
We wholeheartedly agree with Miner et al. (2018) that industrial and organizational (I-O) psychologists should take a lead in addressing gender inequity in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields. The focal article is particularly timely in light of the recent controversial “Google memo” (Damore, 2017), in which a senior software engineer endorsed the same individual-level myths regarding the gender gap in STEM that were critiqued by Miner et al. (2018). However, we caution against painting all STEM fields with the same broad brush. We argue that it is critical for I-O psychologists to be aware of important differences between STEM subfields, as these distinctions suggest that a “one-size-fits-all” approach may be inadequate for addressing existing gender disparities in STEM. In order to be maximally effective, interventions may need to emphasize distinct issues and target different points in the career pipeline depending on the specific STEM subfield in question.

Abstract:
When new technologies arrive they come with promises to solve our problems. Technology has offered ways to get information faster, to communicate and collaborate synchronously, asynchronously. In our teaching we have crafted online learning modules to affords flexibility for students so that they can engage with our disciplines outside of the confines of physical classrooms. Smart phone technology allows us to ‘google’ information (and misinformation) from anywhere - provided you have a smart device, a WIFI connection and a service provider that covers your location. In short, technologies have allowed us to work faster, and facilitated the expansion of the digital asset realm, and they have served as catalysts for innovation and thinking differently about education. With the adoption of each technological implementation I ask both “what are the gains?” and “what are we losing?”. I offer my reflections on three technologies. Email: When I first started as an associate lecturer there was time to have a tea break in a tearoom. Email – now so ubiquitous - replaced the ‘memo’. Something that was implemented for efficient communication has become overtly time consuming and administratively burdensome. The need for rich free-flowing incidental conversation in academia remains but the spaces in time to have these conversations has vanished. On balance: initially a gain, more recently a loss. Internet: The WorldWide Web started to gained traction in higher education in the mid-late 1990s. Teaching became ‘blended’ as many of us starting to create digital learning resources for our students in ‘flexible’ learning environments. Hours were invested in converting analogue images and sound to digital assets. Analogue assessments were changed to fit the digital environment. Having students record their observations in scientific drawings was problematic. With Web 2.0 (~ 2000) came rise of Learning Management Systems and it became easier to create, deliver and manage online quizzes. Scrutinising how students interacted with online resources became popular. Twenty years on and I rely on the online environment to teach, however I still cling to face-to-face teaching as I crave the conversations I have in class. On balance: undecided. mApps: In 2012 I partnered with an undergraduate student and professional staff on a mApp – CampusFlora; we hit the AppStore in 2013 (Author et al., 2014). Designing an app in partnership with students (aligned with students-as-partners approach Healey et al., 2014) allowed us to become ‘collaborators’ rather thana ‘students’ and ‘staff’ (Author et al., 2019). Here, technology acted as a collaboration catalyst shifted from academic-led learning design to student-staff co-design. On balance: a gain. Developing digital literacy in our students is important - not just being able to use technology, but by contributing to resource creation. Co-creating with students is now where I like to spend my time.

Internal control is a central topic in auditing and accounting information systems courses and is even more important since enactment of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002. The purpose of this case is to help students identify whether appropriate controls exist by attempting to execute unauthorized or improper transactions in a popular accounting software package. Students then compose a memo to summarize and explain the results of their transactions. This case helps students (1) identify application controls, (2) think about controls that may be weak, missing, or violated by an employee, and (3) consider and document potential risk exposures to an organization.

Abstract:
<span>In recent years the use of new technologies has been extensively explored in different aspects of language learning pedagogy. The objective of this research was to investigate the impact Repeated Reading activity, supported by iPod Touch could have on the English Oral Reading Fluency (ORF) of second language university students with Special Learning Difficulties (SpLD) at Cyprus University of Technology. As part of their university courses, students have two compulsory English courses. Due to their SpLD and low level of language competence, the eight participants enrolled in the English programme for students with SpLD. This programme is based on the phonological approach and the research done in methods dealing with dyslexia (Shaywitz et al., 2004). After being introduced to the iPod-supported Repeated Reading activity, students worked independently for 8 weeks. They listened and replicated three recorded texts performed by native speakers, using Voice Memo. Texts were based on specific phonetic rules the students had to master. Students recorded their best performance of each text reading, using DropVox. Curriculum-Based Measurement, adapted by Rasinski (2004), was used to measure students’ automaticity (speed and accuracy), and an adapted version of Zutell and Rasinksi’s (1991) Multidimensional Framework to measure prosodic features of fluency. A phonemic accuracy scale was developed and used to assess students’ performance related to specific phonemes students had difficulty with. Data analysis revealed that the independent out-of-class use of Repeated Reading, supported by iPod Touch technology helped in increasing students’ automaticity, improving their prosodic features of fluency, including that of specific phonemes.</span>

Abstract:
Abstract Older adults include highly sophisticated digital media users among their numbers for whom diverse methods of using online technology are a daily occurrence. Given that some older adults are quite tech-savvy, it follows that they may also provide digital media support to others. This study examines technological support-giving abilities and experiences of older adults. We completed in-depth qualitative interviews with older adults (ages 59+) in Hungary, the Netherlands, Switzerland, and Turkey (N=63) exploring: (1) whether older adults give digital media support and reasons for (not) doing so; (2) how older adults provide support and to whom; and (3) experiences of providing support with IT security specifically. The research team conducted consensus meetings to identify themes and coding schemes, and memo writing to share findings and ensure reliability across and within coders. Overall, a large number of our participants reported giving digital media support, primarily within their social circles. The kinds of help provided highly varied from navigating the Internet to choosing devices and managing security settings. We also find mutual support – support given to each other – an important domain for how people in this age group share assistance for technical problems. While some participants did not provide help with digital technology because they lacked confidence to do so, others believed they could, but were never asked. That such a prominent amount of support providers exist in this age group implies that peer-led technical support approaches may be especially salient and effective in helping older adults use digital media.

Abstract:
Separating oil-water mixtures is critical in a variety of practical applications, including the treatment of industrial wastewater, oil spill cleanups, as well as the purification of petroleum products. Among various methodologies that have been utilized, membranes are the most attractive technology for separating oil-water emulsions. In recent years, selective wettability membranes have attracted particular attention for oil-water separations. The membrane surfaces with hydrophilic and in-air oleophobic wettability have demonstrated enhanced effectiveness for oil-water separations in comparison with underwater oleophobic membranes. However, developing a hydrophilic and in-air oleophobic surface for a membrane is not a trivial task. The coating delamination process is a critical challenge when applying these membranes for separations. Inspired by the above, in this study we utilize poly(ethylene glycol)diacrylate (PEGDA) and 1H,1H,2H,2H-heptadecafluorodecyl acrylate (F-acrylate) to fabricate a hydrophilic and in-air oleophobic coating on a filter. We utilize methacryloxypropyl trimethoxysilane (MEMO) as an adhesion promoter to enhance the adhesion of the coating to the filter. The filter demonstrates robust oil repellency preventing oil adhesion and oil fouling. Utilizing the filter, gravity-driven and continuous separations of surfactant-stabilized oil-water emulsions are demonstrated. Finally, we demonstrate that the filter can be reused multiple times upon rinsing for further oil-water separations.

Abstract:
Abstract This study has investigated the relationship between the effectiveness of the note-taking strategy and the ability to listen to the discourse understanding of middle-level adult Japanese learners. This study is a quasi-experimental research. For its respondents are 2018/2019 academic year a fourth-semester students of the Department of Japanese Language Education in one of the state universities in Bandung, West Java. Data were collected from pre-test post-test results (quantitative data), and observations, respondent interviews (qualitative). Data validation by data triangulation technique. The results showed a relationship between strategy and improving listening comprehension skills. In other words, the note-taking strategy is quite influential in understanding discourse in intermediate-advanced listening skills. The limitation of this study is that the time for carrying out experimental activities is only two cycles, and the results of quantitative data have not given significant results because there must be a follow-up in the third cycle to see an increase in the ability to listen and understand. Therefore, further research will continue in the third cycle by focusing on keywords in a note-taking memo. Keywords: Classroom action research; listening comprehension skills; listening strategy; note taking strategy; second language acquisition Abstrak Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menyelidiki hubungan antara keefektivitasan strategi note-taking dengan kemampuan menyimak pemahaman wacana pembelajar bahasa Jepang dewasa tingkat menengah. Abstract:
Background e–Mental health resources are increasingly available for people who experience severe mental illness, including those who are users of community mental health services. However, the potential for service users (SUs) living with severe mental illness to use e–mental health resources together with their community mental health workers (MHWs) has received little attention. Objective This study aims to identify how jointly using an interactive website called Self-Management And Recovery Technology (SMART) in a community mental health context influenced therapeutic processes and interactions between SUs and MHWs from their perspective. Methods We conducted a qualitative study using a constructivist grounded theory methodology. Data were collected through individual semistructured interviews with 37 SUs and 15 MHWs who used the SMART website together for 2 to 6 months. Data analysis involved iterative phases of coding, constant comparison, memo writing, theoretical sampling, and consultation with stakeholders to support the study’s credibility. Results A substantive grounded theory, discovering ways to keep life on track, was developed, which portrays a shared discovery process arising from the SU-worker-SMART website interactions. The discovery process included choosing to use the website, revealing SUs’ experiences, exploring these experiences, and gaining new perspectives on how SUs did and could keep their lives on track. SUs and MHWs perceived that their three-way interactions were enjoyable, beneficial, and recovery focused when using the website together. They experienced the shared discovery process as relationship building—their interactions when using the website together were more engaging and equal. Conclusions Jointly using an e–mental health resource elicited recovery-oriented interactions and processes between SUs and MHWs that strengthened their therapeutic relationship in real-world community mental health services. Further work to develop and integrate this novel use of e–mental health in community mental health practice is warranted.

Abstract:
Recently, demand for handwriting recognition, such as automation of mail sorting, license plate recognition, and electronic memo pads, has exponentially increased in various industrial fields. In addition, in the image recognition field, methods using artificial convolutional neural networks, which show outstanding performance, have been applied to handwriting recognition. However, owing to the diversity of recognition application fields, the number of dimensions in the learning and reasoning processes is increasing. To solve this problem, a principal component analysis (PCA) technique is used for dimensionality reduction. However, PCA is likely to increase the accuracy loss due to data compression. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a line-segment feature analysis (LFA) algorithm for input dimensionality reduction in handwritten text recognition. This proposed algorithm extracts the line segment information, constituting the image of input data, and assigns a unique value to each segment using 3 × 3 and 5 × 5 filters. Using the unique values to identify the number of line segments and adding them up, a 1-D vector with a size of 512 is created. This vector is used as input to machine-learning. For the performance evaluation of the method, the Extending Modified National Institute of Standards and Technology (EMNIST) database was used. In the evaluation, PCA showed 96.6% and 93.86% accuracy with k-nearest neighbors (KNN) and support vector machine (SVM), respectively, while LFA showed 97.5% and 98.9% accuracy with KNN and SVM, respectively.
