Abstract:
Effects of heat stress on viable and nonviable axillary meristem development and subsequent lateral branching in 'Improved Mefo' chrysanthemum [Dendranthema ×grandiflorum Ramat. (Kitamura)] were studied. Plants grown at 33 °C day/27 °C night produced more nonviable buds than did plants grown at 23 °C day/18 °C night. A negative linear relationship {y = 28.7 + [-0.66 (x days)], r2 = 0.70} between timing of exposure to high temperatures and the number of nonviable buds was observed. Histological examination 28 days after exposure to 33 °C/27 °C revealed that plants showed both normal and abnormal bud development. Abnormal bud development occurred as a consequence of premature differentiation of axillary meristematic tissue into nonmeristematic parenchyma tissue immediately after separation of axillary from apical meristems.

Abstract. The Bio-hydro-atmosphere interactions of Energy, Aerosols, Carbon, H2O, Organics & Nitrogen (BEACHON) project seeks to understand the feedbacks and inter-relationships between hydrology, biogenic emissions, carbon assimilation, aerosol properties, clouds and associated feedbacks within water-limited ecosystems. The Manitou Experimental Forest Observatory (MEFO) was established in 2008 by the National Center for Atmospheric Research to address many of the BEACHON research objectives, and it now provides a fixed field site with significant infrastructure. MEFO is a mountainous, semi-arid ponderosa pine-dominated forest site that is normally dominated by clean continental air, but is periodically influenced by anthropogenic sources from Colorado Front Range cities. This article summarizes the past and ongoing research activities at the site, and highlights some of the significant findings that have resulted from these measurements. These activities include: – soil property measurements, – hydrological studies, – measurements of high-frequency turbulence parameters, – eddy covariance flux measurements of water, energy, aerosols and carbon dioxide through the canopy, – biogenic and anthropogenic volatile organic compound emissions and their influence on regional atmospheric chemistry, – aerosol number and mass distributions, – chemical speciation of aerosol particles, – characterization of ice and cloud condensation nuclei, – trace gas measurements, and – model simulations using coupled chemistry and meteorology. In addition to various long-term continuous measurement, three focused measurement campaigns with state-of-the-art instrumentation have taken place since the site was established, and two of these are the subjects of this special issue: BEACHON-ROCS (Rocky Mountain Organic Carbon Study, 2010) and BEACHON-RoMBAS (Rocky Mountain Biogenic Aerosol Study, 2011).

Abstract:
Effects of irradiance and temperature on bud break and elongation in chrysanthemum (Dendranthema grandiflora × Ramat.) were studied. Expt. 1 - 2 growth chambers were maintained at air temperatures of 25C and 30C and within each chamber root-zone temperatures were maintained in relationship to air temperature (+ 5C, 0C, -5C). At 15C/20C and 30C/25C root-zone/air temperatures, lateral number was reduced up to 50%. Variation in response was seen between cultivars `Tara' and `Limelight'. Expt. 2 - A study of the interaction of temperature, irradiance and cultivar on lateral number showed increasing irradiance fro m 400 to 1400μmol m-2s-1 increased lateral numbers by up to 40% depending on cultivar. Cultivars `Limelight', `Tara' and `Improved Mefo' were used. Temperature had no effect on lateral number.

Abstract:

Abstract:
AbstractIn addition to the well-known mefo bills and other types of state debts, National Socialist tax policy was also of great importance for the financing of armament before the war began. Nevertheless, the leaders of the Nazi regime could not agree on the general course of tax policy due to the already high tax burden since spring 1935. As the Reich Ministry of Finance was only able to push through a few small tax increases despite a stricter tax collection practice, the tax coverage of Reich expenditures sank further and further and the short-term national debt increased. This development led to a severe liquidity crisis of the Reich’s finances in 1938 due to the ever accelerating armament, which was overcome for the time being mainly by issuing short-term treasury bonds. This ad hoc solution became entrenched during the war due to those groups in the Nazi regime that continued to block tax policy and formed the basis for the silent financing of the war.

Abstract:
`Improved Mefo' chrysanthemums were grown at 22C/18C and 34C/28C day/night temperature regimes to evaluate the failure of lateral bud development following pinching of this temperature sensitive cultivar. The number of viable buds on plants at the high temperatures was 40% of number at low temperature. Loss of bud viability was categorized as those buds that were: 1) absent, or 2) those in which growth was present, but inhibited. Inhibited buds were visible swellings surrounded by dense masses of secondary cell wall material. Anatomical studies were completed to verify the absence of lateral buds and determine what cellular changes imposed inhibition on those buds that did develop. A second group of experiments demonstrated that moving low-temperature plants to the high temperature caused production of viable buds to decline. Plants were moved from high temperatures to low, and reciprocally to high from low temperature. Anatomical sampling of apical meristems began at time of shift and at 1, 2, 4, and 8 days after temperature shift. High-temperature meristems possessed predominantly non-viable lateral buds, with few viable buds present.

`Dark Yellow Fuji Mefo' chrysanthemums (Dendranthema grandiflora Tzvelev.) were grown hydroponically with either 64, 127, or 254 mg·L-1 N and either 0, 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, or 64 mg·L-1 S in a randomized complete block. Time to flower was measured and symptoms of S deficiency were observed on root, stem, and leaf systems. New leaves and inflorescences were analyzed for S, and lower leaves were analyzed for N concentration. There were four sampling dates and two experiments. Flower diameter was measured when flowers were present, while stem length was measured every sampling date. Nitrogen application could be reduced by half to 127 mg·L-1 as long as some S, 4 mg·L-1 in the fall and 8 mg·L-1 in the spring, was applied. Sulfur deficiency symptoms observed included branchless roots, which aged earlier, overall yellowing of new leaves, and reddening on the leaf abaxial starting from older leaves and moving acropetally. Plants receiving no S had smaller leaves, shorter stems, delayed inflorescence initiation, and restricted inflorescence development. Without S, plants did not produce flowers suitable for commercial sale.

Abstract:
previous studies indicate that there is a significant relationship between the levels of nitrogen and sulfur applied and the growth of floricultural crops. Poinsettia and roses grew well in experiments involving hydroponic solutions that contained reduced nitrogen and some sulfur. Cuttings of Dendranthema grandiflora cv Dark Yellow Fuji Mefo, were grown in hydroponics with either 64, 127, or 254 ppm N in combination with either 0, 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64 ppm S. Plants were grown unpinched and short day treatment started at the end of week 3. Data recorded included symptoms of S deficiency, date of flower initiation, stem length, flower diameter and visual observation of root growth. Color difference of leaves was measured with a chromameter. New leaves and flower heads were taken for sulfur analysis; mature leaves were used for N analysis. Plants receiving no S showed depressed initiation and development of branch roots, delayed flower initiation, reddened lower leaves and reduced plant growth. Plants receiving some S in combination with any level of N showed good color and acceptable flower diameter and stem length.

Abstract:
Understanding the NH3 exchange between forest ecosystems and the atmosphere is important due to its role in the nitrogen cycle. However, NH3 exchange is dynamic and difficult to measure. The goal of this study was to characterize this exchange by measuring the atmosphere, soil, and vegetation. Compensation point modeling was used to evaluate the direction and magnitude of surface-atmosphere exchange. Measurements were performed at the Manitou Experimental Forest Observatory (MEFO) site in the Colorado Front Range by continuous online monitoring of gas and particle phase NH3-NH4+ with an ambient ion monitoring system coupled with ion chromatographs (AIM-IC), direct measurements of [NH4+] and pH in soil extracts to determine ground emission potential (Γg), and measurements of [NH4+]bulk in pine needles to derive leaf emission potential (Γst). Two different soil types were measured multiple times throughout the study, in which Γg ranged from 5 to 2122. Γst values ranged from 29 to 54. Inferred fluxes (Fg) from each soil type predicted intervals of emission and deposition. By accounting for the total [NH4+] pool in each compartment, the lifetime of NH3 with respect to the surface-atmosphere exchange in the soil is on the order of years compared to much faster naturally occurring processes, i.e., mineralization and nitrification.

Abstract:
A precise, robust model for complex systems like IC Engines would be much beneficial because of environmental issues, fossil fuel depletion and accumulation of on-road vehicles. The present study depicts the compatibility of higher alcohols like n-pentanol that are produced in renewable ways as a promising blending additive with biodiesel fuels. Biodiesel prepared from the waste parts of the fishes is used to blend with petrodiesel. The methyl esters of fishoil biodiesel (MEFO) and n-pentanol are blended with petrodiesel at different proportions are tested on a four-stroke single cylinder DICI engine and results from witnesses the noble benefits of adding higher alcohols that are observed in both performance and as well as in emissions. The experimental paradigm is further fed to an artificial intelligent model to test the inherent predicting capability an Artificial Intelligent Adaptive Neuro-fuzzy Interface System (ANFIS). A sugeno network with brake power and percentage of biodiesel as input parameters and engine response paradigm such as BSFC, BTE, HC, CO and NOx as outputs are modelled and tested on a statistical platform. It was found that the proposed model is robust and efficient system identification tool to map the input-output response paradigm with high accuracy as the regression (R) values are ranging from 0.9967 to 0.9999, RMSE is ranging 0.000026 to 0.0000336 and MAPE is very low ranging from 0.0021 to 0.0028.

Abstract:
Introduction The expected changes in an aging process contribute to the increased risk of falling and influence the person's own assessment of their risk of falling. In addition to physical injuries, falls can have psychological consequences, such as fear of falling. This concept was defined as a continuous concern of an individual, when standing or walking, with the occurrence of falls, compromising the performance of daily activities. In this sense, the fear of falling is a sensitive human response to nursing care. As health professionals, nurses should consider evaluating the fear of falling and understand how this phenomenon manifests itself in the elderly. Objective Mapping the available scientific evidence related to the fear of falling in the elderly in a hospital environment. Inclusion criteria Quantitative, qualitative, or mixed studies will be considered, as well as systematic reviews and grey literature. The review will include studies on the fear of falling in elderly people who are in hospitals. Methods Scoping review protocol according to the Joanna Briggs Institute method. Three-phase research strategy that will aim to locate published and unpublished studies in Portuguese, English and Spanish. Temporal, geographic, or cultural limits will not be considered in the research. The search strategy will be adapted to each database/repository in order to identify relevant studies. The selection of studies will begin by analysing the title and abstract. The full text of the selected studies will be analysed by two independent reviewers who will extract data using a specific instrument. The protocol was registered on the Open Science Framework platform (DOI -https://doi.org/10.17605/OSF.IO/B5V6K).

Abstract:
Directly meso-meso linked, partially metallated porphyrin oligomers (dimer, trimer, bent trimer and tetramer) have been synthesized by condensation of meso-formylated porphyrins with pyrrole. The reaction could be useful in the construction of partially metallated, porphyrin arrays.

Abstract:
The objective of this work is to use the autonomous learning methodology as a tool in vehicle maintenance management. In obtaining data, faults in the fuel supply system have been simulated, causing anomalies in the combustion process that are easily detectable by vibrations obtained from a sensor in the engine of an agricultural tractor. To train the classification algorithm, 4 engine states were used: BE (optimal state), MEF1, MEF2, MEF3 (simulated failures). The applied autonomous learning is of the supervised type, where the samples were initially characterized and labeled to create a database for the execution of the training. The results show that the training carried out within the classification algorithm has an efficiency greater than 90%, which indicates that the method used is applicable in the management of vehicle maintenance to predict failures in engine operation.
