Full textDespite having often been reduced to the status of lucid and satirical journalist or to that of a polemicist of the Weimar Republic, Kurt Tucholsky (1890-1935) yet played a far more intercultural role than it’s been said. He lived in Paris, working as a foreign correspondent from 1924 to 1929 and this period, although rarely studied, had a significant impact on his work. Indeed, at that time, he developed a new type of text which we characterise as « French-German chronicles ». Tucholsly writes about France for a German readership and constantly compares the realities of both societies, thereby pursuing his fight for peace with yet another method- that of striving to bring France and Germany closer together. Our aim is thus to demonstrate how Tucholsky stands fully in line with the long list of French-German mediators. Based on the concepts of cultural transfer and of mediator, our analysis focuses on the study of both the travel book Ein Pyrenäenbuch and of articles and poems dating from that period which have a Franco-German dimension. It eventually reveals that Tucholsky depicted France with partiality and that his writing strategy sways between provoking the reader and inciting him or her to play an active role.Added to those two major dimensions which make the chronicles unique, the last and strong axis of the thesis revolves around the ambivalence and limits that such a mediation work imply
Tenenbaum, Charles. "La médiation dans les relations internationales : évolutions et transformations depuis 1945." Paris, Institut d'études politiques, 2010. http://www.theses.fr/2010IEPP0020.
Full textOn the contemporary international scene, pacification strategies are now the product of a growing cooperation between practitioners belonging to a number of specialized and competing networks. These more and more interdependent peacemakers all take part in creating the patterns of an upcoming integrative practice of international mediation. Mirroring global transformations within the structure of the international system, mediators have proliferated, while the use of mediation since 1945 has been largely extended from conflict prevention to conflict resolution and post-conflict management. Historically monopolized by the State, the practice of contemporary international mediation now involves numerous private organizations along with individuals, peace churches, Think Tanks, etc. Reshaping traditional peacemaking strategies, these transformations are closely linked to the liberalization of diplomatic actors and resources. Following a sociological approach based on interviews with a number of mediators and conflict resolution experts, the following doctoral dissertation presents a detailed analysis of a broad range of peacemakers, both public and private. Paying attention to the religious affiliations of many international mediation organizations and to the spiritual dimension of contemporary peacemaking, this study also offers an in-depth analysis of mediation by scholar-practitioners, enhancing the role of peace and conflict resolution studies in the formation of an autonomous academic discipline
Pashayev, Fuad. "La médiation dans la résolution des conflits internationaux : Martti Ahtisaari à Aceh et au Kosovo." Thesis, Paris 1, 2017. http://www.theses.fr/2017PA01D093.
Full textThis research analyzes mediation in the resolution of international conflicts, based on two mediation processes run by Martti Ahtisaari in the mid of 2000s. This former Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations, former Finnish President, Nobel Peace Prize 2008 sees himself as the center man and not the middle man. Equally, he is convinced that he is the key man of peace and remains its true co-decision-maker. This study reveals its mediation slide based on an approach borrowed from E. Goffman. This work is based on some thirty interviews, made with personalities involved in bath mediation processes. Our approach also gives voice to the famous "Finnish mediative opponents", who are underrepresented in the available literature, such as the Australian expert Damien Kingsbury. We also mobilized moving or fixed images; some of which are unpublished. The thesis examines the relationship between mediation and negotiation, throughout the role of various international actors such as NGOs, the EU, the United States and the UN

Full textHow can we understand, interpret and explain international mediation? Is it possible to distinguish several types of international mediations? The growing use of international mediation since the end of the Cold War and the diversity of actors involved in this peacemaking activity explain the need for clarification. Combining theoretical considerations and case studies, we therefore propose a typology based on the distinction between a political, an expert and a societal mediation. These types are constructed through an analysis of the various ways of conceiving conflict, peace, and the rationality of mediation, the different mediation practices, and finally the diverse functions that mediations can have with regard to the conflict and the mediator. In a second part, we demonstrate that the limits of the typological exercise shed light on problems and stakes common to all mediations. We question the limits of our types in relation to the unique macro and micro contexts in which mediations are carried out. We then define “mediation complexes”, characterized by the co-existence of several types of mediations or the changing character of a mediation over time. Lastly, we reflect on hybrid mediations, which combine characteristics from different types, and emerge from the discrepancy between discourses and acts as well as between expected and obtained effects
Chamsine, Chirine. "Les contraintes culturelles dans la traduction des textes de portée internationale : le cas du droit international humanitaire." Caen, 2011. http://www.theses.fr/2011CAEN1623.
Full textThis study explores the problem of humanitarian translation-mediation and is centered around two main axes, namely the human universalism and cultural particularism. The humanitarian message universality, which is based on the unity of the human nature, faces cultural differences which affect the translation understanding and reception. And it is precisely according to identity and cultural characteristics that people give sense to the world they perceive and with which they interact. Based on the paradigm of a text cultural interpretative theory, this work examines the correlation between languages, representations, emotions and cultures. From a corpus combining specialized and general texts in the humanitarian field, a terminological and traductological analysis highlights the interferences between the political, religious, legal, social and humanitarian domains. By following the semantic and conceptual evolution of terms and expressions within their own culture and their passage in the target culture, the analysis reveals the correlation between meaning and local anchors expressed in the language and culture of each. The object of the research is to identify approaches to conceive the universality of human rights in the diversity and plurality of logics through the dialogue of cultures in which translation serves to establish an intercultural communication between two visions of the world

Full textThe aim of this investigation, is to clear up the reasons for the success of a literary work : the cycle of novels the city by the contemporary swedish author p. A. Fogelstrom. By successivly studying the author (as a writer and a man of action), by describing the work and the public, our investigation belongs to the sociology of literature ; it is simultaneously a study of the swedish mentality and of how the author's work was received by the public. The period described in the city corresponds to the rise of the welfare state, which is symbolized in sweden by "the people's house" (the people's home). Our investigation tries to show how the author, using couples of opposite notions (town-countryside, wealth-poverty, old-new, etc. ), describes a conflicting reality. Per anders fogelstrom acts as a mediator between the city and the people, explaining to the people what it's past and it's history is

Lyon 2, 2004. http://theses.univ-lyon2.fr/documents/lyon2/2004/beneus_c.
Full textTo think about an esthetic mediation consists in thinking the dialectic between the specificity of singularity, done at once, at the time of the creation of literature and at the time of the reading and the interpretation, and the specificity of the collectiv part, done at the time of the diffusion in the public space or the politic part (symbolic) or ideological (imaginary). These research work should account of the esthetic part of the media and therefore, confronting media and literature should explain the concept of information. We have to question the statute of the fiction in the thinking about the esthetic of communication, especially to show what the fiction brings about the communication thinking and the intelligibility of the facts of communication

Full textThe study on which the following thesis is based focuses on discussing intercomprehensionfrom an unusual research perspective. Indeed, while its potential as a multilingual approach toforeign language teaching is now widely recognized, the value of intercomprehension as amediation strategy in contexts of linguistic diversity remains largely under-explored. In orderto meet the challenge of the 7th research project MIME - Mobility and inclusion inmultilingual Europe, the scope of intercomprehension has been broadened and tested inspontaneous multilingual environments, that were shaped by the mobility of Europeancitizens, with particular focus on mechanisms of inclusion for mobile individuals. Inparticular, the test case of this study has been the communication of international adoptivefamilies, which are examples of communities that are built on the reorganization ofgeographical, cultural and linguistic references. The methodology used in our research wasorganized according to an "inverted pyramid" structure that makes it possible to observe thephenomenon in question according to two complementary perspectives: the emic perspectiveof the semi-structured interview and the etic perspective of direct observation. According toour results, in a framework of mutually intelligible languages, intercomprehension emergesspontaneously both as an adaptive solution to overcome the challenges imposed by linguisticdiversity and, more importantly, as a communicative space oriented greatly towards theinclusion of the child and his or her original language. This research shows the value ofexpanding research into the applications of intercomprehension in the complex and evolvingexperience of mobility and of promoting its informed implementation among speakersthrough targeted training in plural contexts

Full textReading À la recherche du temps perdu under the spell of the idea of mastery leads us to study the gestures, the speeches and novelistic situations which revive an ideal of self-mastery and government of others. In so far as society is concerned, the idea of mastery is akin to the orchestration of violence ; nevertheless, the survival of a utopian paradigm safeguards pacified enclaves where the imperative of creation allies itself to the necessity to transmit knowledge in an ideal of transparency. The hypothesis of unending mediation orientates one’s attention towards the “bachelors of art” − “les célibataires de l’art” − who, paradoxically, owing to their dissonances and differences, show to what extent the permanency of creation is reflected through their perception of the corpus, and even by its incarnation in their way of being. Does their singularity echo the dissidence of Proust’s aesthetics?

Full textThis monograph is focused on the role as cultural mediator of the Jewish Austrian writer Stefan Zweig (1881-1942) and takes an approach based on the "cultural transfers" theory. His varied identities led him to assume a mediating position among the French literary intellectuals essentially Emile Verhaeren (1855-1916) and Romain Rolland (1866-1944). In order to succeed in this mission as mediator, he created a successful literary network strategy. A Zweig's dynamic took place including correspondences, translations, prefaces, conferences and promoting in this way an intensive French-German dialog or rather a European cultural forum. His relationship to politics and Jewish movements is ambivalent and questionable essentially during the Nazism period

Full textThe university grounding of the tradition of writing workshops is often ignored in France while it is clearly established in the United States. The stories of the creative practices of literary writing are thus handled differently and bring into play different views of literature which this study seeks to compare. The issue of the linguistic areas and the question of the process of the international extension of those practices particularly require to consider the Quebec courses. How can these different training courses be characterized? Which representations of the author, of the writing process, of creativity or of the work do they convey? Which tension and change currents emerge? On the diachronic and synchronic levels and by backing up the bibliographical survey with systematic questionnaires and collections of in-the-field data, the comparison will contemplate its own epistemological landmarks and the current state of resources which the translations intend to make accessible to French speakers

Full textThis thesis proposes a theorical discourse on the fictional mediation, more particularly in the novels of our corpus. From a rhetorical perspective, the research consists in studying the process of implementation of the signification in the literary works. The communication appears to it not as a stable and simple datum which we could reduce to formal appearances or still to sociohistorical contents, but as a set of coherent requirements wich specify the terms, otherwise the modalities of the argumentative cooperation between the writer and the reader. The thiking is composed of three parts. The first part consists in indentifiying the question of wich the fiction statement is the answer. It allows to raise, in thematic form, the main axes of the narrative line of argument, consequently the issues of the communication in each novel. The second part deals with the analysis of the formal choices of the statement and it shows on which modes and what ideological end the contribution of the reader is requested. In fact, it’s the discursive strategy wich defines the method of communication and characterizes the functioning of mediation in a literary work. The central idea of the third part is to show the epistemological skill that a writer gives to the literary work and the reader’s ability to identify it. The theories wich become epistemological pools appear as reductionisms and as real obstacles to the pleasure to read or to make pertinently resound the significance of a work art
Montier, Solenne. "Les interstices de la conversation dans les romans de Marcel Proust et Nathalie Sarraute." Thesis, Normandie, 2017. http://www.theses.fr/2017NORMC030.
Full textEven if the novels written by Proust and by Sarraute are very different by their ambitions and by their style, uncovering the interstices of conversation makes it possible to affirm the existence of a filiation connecting the two authors. This phenomenon includes direct speech fragments used to convey what could have been said, or what have been said in a different place or a different time. The ongoing interaction can thus be commented, illustrated or completed. This is how Proust and Sarraute develop what underlies and surrounds the actual conversation, to indicate that imagination is more important than words spoken out loud. Relying on a diachronic and on a synchronic approach, this research analyses the forms, the stakes and the effects of this particular pratice that sheds a new light on the intersubjective relationship at the heart of Proust’s and Sarraute’s works. We defend the idea that the interstices are fantasmatic projections, produced by the interaction, but also affecting it in return, giving shape to the relationship with the interlocutor. Considered as an inventive growth able to alter the terms of the interaction, this phenomenon involves a certain withdrawal but, far from being a sign of solipsism, is crucial to strengthen the relationship. It offers a chosen space to put oneself’s in someone else’s place, suitable to examine inner life and empathy at work. Finally, it implies a broader definition of reality, including what is virtual and possible, and offers an existential laboratory that encourages the reader to question his own inter-actions

Full textThe "post-Locarnian" period (1926-1933) marked the apogee of an attempt at rapprochement rich in relationships and transnational travel. Intellectuals, in particular, concerned with a peaceful construction of Europe, sought to set up a true "Europe of Spirits". Berlin, capital of a very young Republic, became the center of a French-German reconciliation where the different actors of this rapprochement met. Salons were created there, with the objective of social regrouping. Three women, Antonina Vallentin, Jenny de Margerie and Helene von Nostitz, left their mark on this elitist French-German microcosm in Berlin by leading a mediating mundanity. Forgotten by historiography, silent both by choice and by social obligation, these three salonnières nevertheless allowed the cohesion of a society with numerous actors from different backgrounds and fields. As women of networks, they enjoyed a certain influence and encouraged mediation and the propagation of the ideal of reconciliation defended by its theorists. This work of mediation and this feminine influence in a society of the inter-war period, which was male-centered, allows us to recognize the place of the salonnières alongside their hosts. This research work allows us to have an overview of both the place of these women and their central role, as well as a complete vision of worldliness and its attributes in the structure of a society. It is, in fact, a question of writing the Franco-German history of transnational mediating figures plunged into the memorial shadow

Thesis, Sorbonne Paris Cité, 2015. http://www.theses.fr/2015USPCD046.
Full textAs a novelist and newspaperman, Marie Aycard (1794-1859) has been considered as a minor and obscure writer, but he undoubtedly belongs to the literary history. A witness of the great changes in the press world of his time (1830-1848), he is actively involved in the development of a new kind of contents, more devoted to entertainment, in publishing weekly chronicles and short stories, from 1837-1842 and after, which gain a large audience in being widely reproduced in Paris newspapers and magazines, in provincial papers, or foreign ones, in French but also in translation, which found their way in all the major European languages, on all the continents. This massive international circulation makes their author a kind of unofficial ambassador (and often anonymous) of the French and Parisian culture all over the world and in many periodicals and media of his time. The recent digitization of these periodicals and newspapers offers a unique way to clearly measure this phenomenon, and an opportunity to take in consideration a new tool to gauge the "popularity" of such contents. It also offers new approaches and insights in the newspaper network, organized and world-connected, ready for its continuous expansion, as early as the 1840s

Full textThe federal germany's foreign policy as applied to developing countries and specifically to the countries of sub-saharan africa gives no special place to cultural relations as such. Whether it is expressed in the general framework of development aid, or in that of training aid, "cultural aid for self-help" and its many guises, the record is generally unsatisfactory and necessitates repeated attempts at conceptualisation. Although this conceptualisation integrates various aspects of a shared demand for a new and more just world economic order, it nevertheless shows the limitations inherent in the very nature of cultural relations

Full textEarly after the fall of the ottoman domination, the French travelers went to Greece in order to wander through a land full of history, with a glorious past but a deceiving present. Chateaubriand and Quinet were writers and travelers who reported the crisis lived at the turning point of the Hellenic war of independence (1821-1830). Through their gaze of “borders-men” – both writers and historians – these French painters of the Greek landscape described a plurivocal Hellade, at the beginning and the end of the war of national uprising. This study question the intrusion of history in their fictional travel narratives and report the making of their Greek thought situated at the heart of their respective career. The romantic historiography was just at its premises because history as a scientific discipline was barely emerging. Thus, through the prism of literature and imagination, travel narrative was a fitting genre for writing history, propitious to the fragmentation of speeches by the work of palimpsest. As Januses with their eyes turned to the past as well as to the future, in Greece, Chateaubriand and Quinet inscribed themselves in the history of their time, at the turning point of the European Revolutions, through a writing of the immediate history while painting landscapes with historical dimension
Thesis, Pau, 2016. http://www.theses.fr/2016PAUU1006/document.
Full textThe aim of this PHD is to study the process of the continuous variation, as the guiding principle for the complete works of Gherasim Luca. The purpose is to highlight both its plastic and its phonic aspects, how they work together, and also the way pictopoésie and ontophonie help create a perpetual selfgenerated text. Since the works stand at the crossroads of several arts, this analysis underlines the structure of the iconic and textual spaces. One of the axis of research, that focuses on the persona, as it emerges from a protean aesthetics, and on the figurative space proper to language, calls thus intoquestion Deleuze’s theory of “continuous variation”, while showing its internal mechanism and its exceedance. Finally, the phonic, the linguistic and the physical performance, in staging the ontophonie, brings into question the voices and the media as a means, established by the oral poetry and the mediopoetics, granting access to an analysis based on endless repetition and reformulation
Seddiki, Yalla. "Guy Debord : automythographe." Thesis, Paris 4, 2012. http://www.theses.fr/2012PA040097.
Full textTheoretician, “Strategist” – as he defined himself –, film director, actor in his own films exclusively, memorialist, revolutionary, member of the Lettrist movement (initiated by Isidore Isou) and member of Socialism or Barbarism, a political organisation ; co-founder of the Lettrist International (1952-1957) and of the Situationist International (1957-1972), Guy Debord aimed for nothing but project features of the exceptional on his works. To do so, he surrounded himself with a few dozens companions, which constitutes the extrinsic basis of the Guy Debord myth. Through the fabric of anecdotes, the first part of this research brings up the key figures he socialised with and the political or artistic avant-garde movements he momentarily supported, and more often confronted, but which determined in part the courses taken by his life and thought. At first, for Guy Debord, it was a case of projecting the emancipatory promises of art and modern poetry onto the urban space and social relations. Then, the realisation of this project becomes subordinated to the project of revolution. However, this goal can not be separated from an aesthetic form, that is to say from an intrinsic basis, “the style of negation”, according to Guy Debord. The second part of this work will focus on this subject. “Drift”, “Influential metagraphy”, “psychogeography”, “situation” and “diversion” are but a few concepts outlining an aesthetic of political and artistic action. Besides, Guy Debord summons a large variety of characters and exemplary narratives – first intuitively, then with a fully controlled conscience –, the power and prestige of which he analogically aims to direct partly at himself. By elaborating an imaginative, mythical and mythographical framework, Guy Debord faces the necessity to overtake the mind-wandering inwardness, towards the accomplishment of the narrative within the historical materiality
Tarquini, Valentina. "I folli in cammino : saggio sulle rappresentazioni e i significati della figura del folle nelle letterature dell'Africa nera, francofone e anglofone, dalle indipendenze ai giorni nostri." Thesis, Strasbourg, 2012. http://www.theses.fr/2012STRAC011.
Full textThe recurrence of wandering madmen and fools in the black African novel raises many questions about the reasons behind its implementation during the so-called independences. This study covers a time span ranging from the 1950s to the first decade of 2000. It includes Francophone and Anglophone fiction in order to gain an overview that allows one to observe an evolution in the representation of the fool with a diachronic perspective. The typological study of wandering fools precedes the discourse analysis in the literary texts, focusing on three levels: speech, narrative procedures and imagery. It fallows that the fool’s dynamism recalls his impact on the three modes of discourse. This leads to a hypothesis that he is a figure of mediation in many areas of society, being a spiritual and religious mediator, an intermediary to institutions of authority, and even an intermediary in literature, both in writing and in the literary institution. The social marginalization of the fool and the reformist zeal he takes in contemporary times, make him an instrument of knowledge that can create a new literary code and articulate the African discourse in its quest for autonomy. Moreover, these features mark the social status both of African works and of the novelist in the literary scene

Full textAs concept of International Relations justifying foreign action of States, the national interest is a notion always present in the governement leaders speeches about foreign affairs. But its meaning and its purpose are subtle and diversified as the introduction of Multilateralism and its objective of international security show. Despite the emergence of legitimate structures, the State gets involved for international security in foreign actions through discourse and implication. This implication, far from a discourse of symbolic objectives, takes part in an accurately orchestrated strategy in the name of national interest. Thus, on the African continent, we attend the emergence of foreign policies and national diplomatic actions dedicated to international security. This analysis demonstrates by the constructivist approach that the practices of mediation by Burkina Faso in West Africa participates in this trend - in contrast to the disseminated discourse of security in this subregion

Full textThis thesis is devoted to the analysis of the situationnist discourse in the work of Quebec author Réjean Ducharme. We analyse more closely three novels: Le nez qui voque (1967) L’hiver de force (1973) and Dévadé (1990). Assuming that Ducharme could have had contact with the ideas of a French counter-cultural group named Internationale situationniste (1957-1972), we try to pick up similitudes between them and analyse the ways those have an effect on Ducharme’s work. Our comparative micro-textual analysis is divided in three parts. First we address their vision of the role art should have in society as well as their resistance to its institutionalization. We then address the ducharmian and situationnist conceptions of the city and its organization, both being very similar. Finally we analyse the economic and political discourses in our corpuses insisting on the way Ducharme’s characters as well as the members of the Internationale situationniste resist to the capitalist and hierarchic organization of society and favour an ideal based on game, friendship and love. We show that the situationnist discourse is omnipresent in Ducharme’s work. We think it proves that even though some critics claim the opposite, Réjean Ducharme is a political author.
