Abstract:
I study a mechanism design problem in which a designer allocates a single good to one of several agents, and the mechanism is followed by an aftermarket—a post‐mechanism game played between the agent who acquired the good and third‐party market participants. The designer has preferences over final outcomes, but she cannot design the aftermarket. However, she can influence its information structure by publicly disclosing information elicited from the agents by the mechanism. I introduce a class of allocation and disclosure rules, called cutoff rules, that disclose information about the buyer's type only by revealing information about the realization of a random threshold (cutoff) that she had to outbid to win the object. When there is a single agent in the mechanism, I show that the optimal cutoff mechanism offers full privacy to the agent. In contrast, when there are multiple agents, the optimal cutoff mechanism may disclose information about the winner's type; I provide sufficient conditions for optimality of simple designs. I also characterize aftermarkets for which restricting attention to cutoff mechanisms is without loss of generality in a subclass of all feasible mechanisms satisfying additional conditions.

Abstract:
AbstractIt is commonplace for a single physiological mechanism to seed multiple phenomena, and for multiple mechanisms to contribute to a single phenomenon. We propose that the flash-lag effect should not be considered a phenomenon with a single cause. Instead, its various aspects arise from the convergence of a number of different mechanisms proposed in the literature. We further give an example of how a neuron's generic spatio-temporal response profile can form a physiological basis not only of “prediction,” but also of many of the other proposed flash-lag mechanisms, thus recapitulating a spectrum of flash-lag phenomena. Finally, in agreeing that such basic predictive mechanisms are present throughout the brain, we argue that motor prediction contributes more to biological fitness than visual prediction.

Abstract:
Peer prediction incentive mechanisms for crowdsourcing are generally limited to eliciting samples from categorical distributions. Prior work on extending peer prediction to arbitrary distributions has largely relied on assumptions on the structures of the distributions or known properties of the data providers. We introduce a novel class of incentive mechanisms that extend peer prediction mechanisms to arbitrary distributions by replacing the notion of an exact match with a concept of neighborhood matching. We present conditions on the belief updates of the data providers that guarantee incentive-compatibility for rational data providers, and admit a broad class of possible reasonable updates.

Abstract:
This article presents the mechanism combination's modes, fundamentals, reasoning rules, and realization methods in the automated conceptual design of mechanism systems. According to the combination form between two function units, with the aid of morphology matrix, applying a recursive mode of mechanism combination and the reasoning system based on set theory, the function units' solutions in the form of combination mechanisms can conveniently be generated. The theory and method presented in this article can simplify the process of mechanism combination and the reasoning rules and are suitable for the combination between not only single-degree-of-freedom mechanisms, but also many-degree-of-freedom mechanisms. They have successfully been applied to the software development of automated conceptual design of mechanism systems.

Abstract:
This paper presents an approach for synthesizing all possible mechanism systems of kinematic building blocks in a mechanism concept library. The kinematic building blocks are defined as SISO primitive mechanisms, and their serial and/or parallel combinations are expressed as corresponding out-trees based on graph representation. By representing the constructive building blocks as labeled vertices and their possible combination relationships as directed edges, the synthesis approach is developed by adopting graph enumeration theorem. An illustrative example of four kinematic building blocks, including two crank-rocker linkages and two slider-crank mechanisms, is provided to validate the presented approach. The result shows that all feasible mechanism systems can be obtained effectively by following the synthesis method and which provides more alternatives in the library during design or re-design of mechanisms.

Abstract:
Abstract. Conventional wiper mechanisms that are used in automotive vehicles comprise numerous linkages and joints. In this study, in order to obtain a simpler design, a novel compliant wiper mechanism is introduced. The wiper mechanism is essentially a partially compliant four-bar mechanism. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first compliant wiper mechanism in the literature. The wipers currently labeled “compliant” in the literature possess only a flexible wiper blade frame. However, these are still driven by conventional rigid body mechanisms. After introduction of the fundamental concept, a compliant wiper mechanism is designed for an L7e car. Finite element analysis is carried out for verifying analytical results and fatigue calculations are performed. Finally, a prototype is manufactured, and it is experimentally verified that a compliant wiper mechanism may have an infinite life.

Abstract:
Most of the driving mechanisms used in micro flapping wing vehicles are gear and linkage transmission mechanisms, which convert the unidirectional rotation of the motor into the reciprocating flapping of the driving mechanism. However, gear and linkage transmission mechanisms occupy a larger space and weight with certain energy losses. This article introduces a drive mechanism that is different from gear and linkage mechanisms, namely the string-based mechanism. In this study, the working principle and various parameters in string-based mechanisms are analyzed, and the flapping trajectory and amplitude of the mechanism is simulated. Following that, this article proposes an improved method of the cam mechanism, designs the trajectory of a cam mechanism, and a physical design is carried out with a driving mechanism width of 22 mm. Subsequently, the experiments are conducted to compare the flapping trajectory of the actual mechanism with the simulation trajectory, thereby verifying the simulation accuracy. The results prove that, in a string-based mechanism, the ratio of the radius of the pulley to the installation radius of the double-layer bearings has a direct impact on the flapping amplitude, and optimizing the design of cam mechanisms can effectively reduce the tensile and relaxation phenomena in string-based mechanisms. The above conclusion was verified in physical experiments, where the modified cam mechanism effectively reduced the stuck phenomenon in the string-based mechanism.

Abstract:
A new practical application for teaching mechanism calibration to engineering students in senior undergraduate courses is presented in this paper. The modelling, characterization and calibration of kinematic mechanisms is performed. This application presents a special interest in kinematic mechanisms in areas such as industry and research. The application interface allows the students to carry out the different steps of the calibration procedure in an easy way, to change different variables and to analyze results. This application therefore presents an important utility as a teaching tool for the learning process and analysis of the different steps in the mechanism optimization. The application developed allows students: to design their own mechanisms and to analyze the mechanism workspace by changing some design parameters, to test accuracy and repeatability of mechanism components, to introduce the mechanism kinematic model, to evaluate the mechanism performance before calibration, to calibrate the mechanism and, finally, to analyze the improvement in the system accuracy.

Abstract:
This paper presents a new type of 2-DOF single-loop mechanism inspired by the Sarrus mechanism, and it utilizes this mechanism to construct 2-DOF cylindrical deployable mechanisms. First, the motion pattern of the single-loop mechanism is analyzed utilizing screw theory. According to the structural symmetries, the cylindrical deployable mechanisms are constructed through the linear pattern combination and circular pattern combination of the single-loop mechanisms. After the geometrical analysis and interference condition analysis, the axial, circumferential and area magnification ratios are defined and, furthermore, applied to the parameter optimization of the deployable mechanisms, forming an example surface. Finally, a simplified 1-DOF single-loop mechanism is derived from the proposed 2-DOF mechanism, which is used to construct 1-DOF cylindrical deployable mechanisms with singular free workspaces.

We provide an introduction to the recent developments of dynamic mechanism design, with a primary focus on the quasilinear case. First, we describe socially optimal (or efficient) dynamic mechanisms. These mechanisms extend the well-known Vickrey– Clark–Groves and D’Aspremont–Gérard–Varet mechanisms to a dynamic environment. Second, we discuss revenue optimal mechanisms. We cover models of sequential screening and revenue-maximizing auctions with dynamically changing bidder types. We also discuss models of information management where the mechanism designer can control (at least partially) the stochastic process governing the agents’ types. Third, we consider models with changing populations of agents over time. After discussing related models with risk-averse agents and limited liability, we conclude with a number of open questions and challenges that remain for the theory of dynamic mechanism design. Abstract:
Experiments have been done to clarify the mechanism of the chromium(VI)-formic acid reaction in aqueous perchloric acid media, both in the absence and in the presence of manganese(II) ion. Two mechanisms are proposed, one for slightly acid solutions (I) and the other for strongly acid ones (II). Both mechanisms are first order in both oxidant and reductant, but they differ in the order to hydrogen ion (1 for mechanism I and 3 for mechanism II). The activation energy for mechanism I (60.4 ± 0.9 kJ mol-1) is considerably higher than that for mechanism II (41.2 ± 0.4 kJ mol-1). The rate-controlling steps proposed for mechanisms I and II are the H2CrO4-HCOOH and HCrO3+-HCOOH2+ reactions, respectively. Mechanism I is inhibited by manganese(II) ion, but mechanism II is not, which suggests that mechanism I involves Cr(IV) as an intermediate, whereas mechanism II does not.

The parallel kinematic mechanism has been applied to simulators and robots for its high speed or multiple degrees of freedom. In recent years, however, it has begun to be used for precision mechanisms, such as machine tools, measuring machines, or fine-motion mechanisms. This review outlines the parallel kinematic mechanism and compares it with the conventional orthogonal coordinate mechanism to describe its nature and characteristics as a precision mechanism. It also introduces some cases in which the parallel kinematic mechanism is applied to fine motion mechanisms and three-dimensional coordinate measuring machines in addition to machine tools and robots. Finally, it discusses the problems and future of this parallel kinematic mechanism.

Abstract:
The existing Compensation mechanism is the single subject government compensation mechanism that has many problems such as single compensation means, lack of stability, low compensation standards and so on, which fails to provide effective incentive for promoting sustainable development. Building the Government-led pluralized subject, diversification of compensation for the entire industrial chain, compensation mechanisms which covers existing housing, and many realization forms of compensation mechanism that includes Government-led mechanism, market regulation mechanisms, legal constraints mechanism, public participation mechanism, are perfection and improvement to single body Government compensation mechanism.

Abstract:
The authors of the article, based on a comparative legal analysis of domestic and foreign scientific literature, reveal the features of existing such significant definitions as “economic mechanism”, “economic mechanism”, “financial mechanism”, “mechanism of legal regulation” and “financial and legal mechanism”. The article examines the main scientific schools to determine the role and place of all these types of mechanisms in the system of economic and legal development of the state. It is concluded that it is necessary to introduce into scientific circulation the concept of “systems of financial and economic mechanisms of judicial expert activity”, defining: 1) the subject-object structure of legal relations; 2) a system of methods, techniques and means of financing this type of activity; 3) legal, informational and organizational support of forensic expert activities; 4) a set of various mechanisms, which should include, for example, the mechanism of state financial control, the mechanism of insurance; digital financial mechanisms, etc.

Abstract:
The mathematical model of estimation of a design mass of the closed planetary mechanism formed from two simple planetary mechanisms of James (mechanism of type ), taking into account their structural diagrams and design constraints, determined by the conditions of contact and bending strengths of external gearing of sun gears and satellites, is offered. A model is a dimensionless function (analogue of mass) of two variables – transmission relations of simple planetary mechanisms, and set of numerical parameters. As parameters of analogue of mass coefficients are chosen, characterizing the models of mass of gear wheels and carriers, structural and strength limitations of the external gearing of simple planetary mechanisms of the type , and also structure of these mechanisms. In the program Mathcad differential properties of the offered model and influence on position of minimum of analogue of mass are investigational depending on the numerical values of his parameters. Documents of the Mathcad program are presented that implement computer modeling of algorithms for parametric optimization of mass closed planetary mechanism, where the function of the analogue of the mass of the given mechanism is used as the objective function. A comparative analysis of minimizing the design mass of two kinematic schemes of planetary mechanisms is considered – closed planetary mechanism and in-line planetary of the type . Keywords: simple planetary mechanism of James, simple planetary mechanism type ; closed planetary mechanism; in-line planetary mechanism; mass of closed planetary mechanism; contact strength of gearing; bending strength of gearing; parametric optimization; parametric optimization of mass of planetary mechanism

Abstract:
This paper examines the problem of identifying the assembly configurations (ACs), also called circuits, of planar non-single-input-dyadic (NSID) mechanisms. An SID mechanism is a multi-loop mechanism which can be defined by adding one loop at a time such that the mechanism has one degree of freedom (DOF) after each loop is added. An NSID mechanism is any mechanism that does not meet the SID criterion. This includes all multi-DOF mechanisms, and some complex single-DOF mechanisms. An automatic method is presented which allows a computer to determine the ACs of an NSID mechanism. For single-DOF mechanisms, the ACs are represented by curves drawn in a plane represented by two joint variables. For multi-DOF mechanisms, the ACs consist of one or more regions in the plane, which are defined by the curves that bound them. The automated method finds these bounding curves, and then determines which curves belong to the same region, and which regions belong to the same AC. Mechanisms with pin joints and sliding joints are considered.
