Abstract:
Mechanically chiral molecules have attracted considerable attention due to their property and function based on its unique interlocked structure. This review covers the recent advances in the synthesis and function of interlocked rotaxanes with mechanical chirality along with their dynamic and complex stereochemistry. The application of mechanically chiral rotaxanes to control the polymer helical structure is also introduced, where amplification of mechanical chirality appears to cause the macroscopic polymer property change, suggesting the potential applicability of mechanical chirality in polymer systems.

Abstract:
The influence of curing time on the mechanical property of the phosphoaluminate cement (PAC) was investigated, and the mechanism was discussed as well. The phase composition and morphology of hydration products, electrical properties, porosity and pore size distribution of PAC cured different age were analyzed with XRD, EIS and MIP. The results showed PAC has the property of early-high strength, and the compressive strength of PAC cured for 1 day was about 70% of 28 days’. The main hydration products of PAC are micro-crystal phase and gel of phosphate and phosphoaluminate which formed compacter microstructure. In addition, there are no calcium hydroxide (CH) and ettringite (AFt) produced during the process of hydration. The compressive strength of PAC increased with age, which was due to more products continuously produced. The ac resistance analysis manifested as the change of the nyquist pattern and resistance value.

Abstract:
The tensile response of continuous fibre reinforced ceramic matrix composites (CFCCs) is not expected to show the large variation in strength properties commonly observed for monolithic ceramics. Results of recent investigations on a number of two-dimensional reinforced CFCCs have nevertheless revealed a considerable scatter in the initial elastic modulus, in the first matrix cracking stress and in the failure stress. One school of thought considers that the observed variability is caused by experimental factors. Elaborate testing programmes have been set up to clarify the origins of this scatter by investigation of the effects of control mode, loading rate, specimen shape, etc. Another school explains the scatter by the presence of (axial) residual stresses in the fibres and in the matrix. Although plausible, this hypothesis is difficult to verify because experimental determination of the residual stress state in CFCCs is not straightforward. In addition, with the available methods it is impractical to determine the residual stresses in every test specimen. This approach is indeed required for establishing the relationship between the magnitude of the residual stresses and the experimentally observed scatter. At IAM a method has been developed and validated which allows to quantify the axial residual stress state in individual CFCC specimens by subjecting them to intermittent unloading-reloading cycles. The method as well as the derived relationship between residual stress state and scatter in mechanical response will be presented. [S0742-4795(00)01101-7]

In order to realize the dynamic mechanical property of a steel, the quasic-static and dynamic compressive and tensile mechanical tests of a steel are carried out. Based on the stress-strain curves of the steel, the constitutive relation is presented and it can be used to describe compressive and tensile mechanical property correspondently. The stress-strain curves at different strain rate and the obtained dynamic constitutive relationship show that the flow stress of the steel is increased with strain rate increased. The dynamic tension experimental results show that failure strain and stress of the steel are increased small with strain rate increased, and the fracture of tension sample is ductile fracture.

Abstract:
In order to identify the microstructure inhomogeneity influence on rock mechanical property, SEM scanning test and fractal dimension estimation were adopted. The investigations showed that the self-similarity of rock microstructure markedly changes with the scanned microscale. Different rocks behave in different fractal dimension variation patterns with the scanned magnification, so it is conditional to adopt fractal dimension to describe rock material. Grey diabase and black diabase have high suitability; red sandstone has low suitability. The suitability of fractal-dimension-describing method for rocks depends on both investigating scale and rock type. The homogeneities of grey diabase, black diabase, grey sandstone, and red sandstone are 7.8, 5.7, 4.4, and 3.4, separately; their average fractal dimensions of microstructure are 2.06, 2.03, 1.72, and 1.40 correspondingly, so the homogeneity is well consistent with fractal dimension. For rock material, the stronger brittleness is, the less profile fractal dimension is. In a sense, brittleness is an image of rock inhomogeneity in macroscale, while profile fractal dimension is an image of rock inhomogeneity in microscale. To combine the test of brittleness with the estimation of fractal dimension with condition will be an effective approach for understanding rock failure mechanism, patterns, and behaviours.

Abstract:
Abstract The article describes an attempt to assess the electrostatic properties of mechanical friction-induced sparking. Such sparks are the cause of numerous accidents in hard coal mines. The article summarizes accidents in hard coal mining in Poland in recent years. In most cases, the initials were mechanical sparks. Mechanical sparks contain energy, a part of which is related to their excess electrostatic charge, whereas the other part is of a different origin (kinetic or thermal energy, for example). The article tries to estimate how much of this energy is energy impact generated by electrostatics impact. It is hard to measure the dynamic electrostatic parameters like electric charge. Authors select four measuring methods. This test methods are prepared based on authors knowledge of electrostatic parameters and European standards dedicated to measure the electrostatics parameters. These circuits were prepared for four different spark parameters. Measurement methods of electrostatic field of sparks stream are not able to measure field potential of sparks. The measuring instruments do not have such a fast response time, adequate to the speed of the sparks. Spark generation and parameter measurement experiments were performed. The only method to determine the amount of electrostatic charge on sparks is to measure the entire charge by collecting sparks at the measuring electrode. The measuring system requires that the entire stream of sparks falls on the electrode. Tested transferred electrostatic charge of stream of sparks is about 10 nC. It means that this charge can be an effective ignition source for some explosive atmospheres. Electrostatic charge with Certain methods were rejected as inadequate following result analysis. A claim for one of the methods was submitted to the Patent Office of the Republic of Poland.

Abstract:
This article focuses on the importance of intellectual property (IP) in startup companies to attract investment. Various examples of startup companies dealing with medical devices were also discussed. Much of a medical device startup’s assets, however, lie in ideas or concepts it hopes to develop into a commercial product. Patent protection often is considered a critical component of corporate transactions involving medical technologies because it can protect the significant upfront investments required for R'D and regulatory activities. Investors evaluating the IP of a target medical device company are attracted to a demonstrated awareness of IP and to a clean house as it relates to administrative issues potentially affecting the company’s intellectual property. A target company also may make investment more attractive by minimizing or eliminating contractual restrictions on the transfer of its IP. A startup company seeking its portion of investment dollars must pay attention to its IP: it must ensure that its technology is freely marketable without infringing third-party rights and that its IP portfolio is free of encumbrances and has the necessary protection.

Abstract:
The internal-meshing rotary mechanism is widely used in the oil pumps and cyclonical pin wheels application. The working principle of the internal meshing rotary compressor is very different with the current institutions applications. while, the mechanical property method of the internal meshing rotary pump can’t be entirely and directly used in the rotary compressor because of the different working principles. In order to simplify the study of the internal-meshing rotary compressors, the forces acted on the inner and outer gears are computed. The gas force and torque related to the rotating angle are derived, and then compared with other rotary compressors. The result shows that the internal meshing rotary compressor’s mechanical parameters vary periodically and the period is 2π/Z2and this type of compressor has perfect mechanical property compared with other compressors.

Abstract:
Abstract Thermo-hydro-mechanical (THM) treatment is a combined action of temperature, moisture, and mechanical force, which leads to modified wood (THMW). Various types of eco-friendly THM processes have been developed to enhance wood properties and generate new materials, such as welding, densification, molding, bending, profiling, artificial aging, panel manufacture, and surface densification. The various transformation processes in the course of THM bring about positive effects in terms of the mechanical and physical properties as well as the biological durability. To the negative effects belong the loss in strength and fracture toughness, and one of the challenges is to minimize these negative aspects. The present paper reviews the chemical transformations processes during THM treatment in a closed processing system and presents the relationship between processing parameters and THMW properties. The discussion includes the problems associated with eliminating the set recovery of densified wood by THM posttreatments and the chemical origin of the relaxation of internal stresses induced by densification.

Abstract:
Tendons transmit forces from muscles to bones to enable skeletal motility. During development, tendons begin to bear load at the onset of embryo movements. Using the chick embryo model, this study showed that altered embryo movement frequency led to changes in elastic modulus of calcaneal tendon. In particular, paralysis led to decreased modulus, whereas hypermotility led to increased modulus. Paralysis also led to reductions in activity levels of lysyl oxidase (LOX), an enzyme that we previously showed is required for cross-linking-mediated elaboration of tendon mechanical properties. Additionally, inhibition of LOX activity abrogated hypermotility-induced increases in modulus. Taken together, our findings suggest embryo movements are critical for tendon mechanical property development and implicate LOX in this process. These exciting findings expand current knowledge of how functional tendons form during development and could guide future clinical approaches to treat tendon defects associated with abnormal mechanical loading in utero .
