Abstract:
Merger and acquisition activity is very important economic phenomenon often leading to a permanent organizational changes of single industries or even entire economies. Theoretical part of this article is an attempt to define aggregate size measures which allow gaining quantitative view on its dimensions. Four measures are proposed to assess the size of a merger and acquisition market, namely: announced, backlog, completed and withdrawn volumes. Relationship between these measures is introduced. Their accuracy is dependent on assumed transaction and registration announcement definitions. Limitations of the research based on the commercial vendors’ datasets (for example Thomson Reuters) are presented. In order to overcome these limitations, alternative data collection methodology for merger transactions is derived from legal consolidation procedure defined in The Code of Commercial Partnerships and Companies. This approach allows collecting the information about 3870 merger transactions which have taken place in the period between 1st January 2002 and 31st December 2013 in Poland. Announced, backlog and completed volumes are calculated quarterly. All these quantitative measure exhibit strong seasonality. Besides, their stable growth on Polish market was observed from 2002 till 2011. After 2011 this trend has reverted, but rebound of the backlog volume in the second quarter of 2013 suggests that at least completed volume levels should be higher in the upcoming quarters.

Abstract:
The present manuscript studies and classifies the different performance variables and measures of hotels, recorded in international scientific journals. Through the Content Analysis of 79 scientific papers, this manuscript reaches a main conclusion regarding hotel performance indicators measurement. Although researchers have acknowledged that the concept of hotel performance is complex and manifold (and as such it is depicted and assessed with various and diverse indicators and groups of indicators in international scientific literature), still the majority of them measure hotel performance in a way that does not express its multidimensional nature in their studies as they focus on a relatively small number of the above indicators. This paper mainly contributes to further classifying hotel performance indicators and introduces a novel codification that allows researchers to better understand indicators and hotel executives to use them more effectively.

Abstract:
Background/Aims: This study aims to explore the effects of microRNA-214-5p (miR-214-5p) on the invasion and migration of Hepatocellular Carcinoma cells (HCC). Methods: Hepatocellular Carcinoma tissues and adjacent normal tissues from 44 hepatocellular carcinoma patients were prepared for this study. The HepG2 and BEL-7402 cells were transfected with miR-214-5p mimic and inhibitor. qRT-PCR was performed to detect the expressions of miR-214-5p. Transwell assays were used to detect the invasion and migration assays in HepG2 and BEL-7402 cells. A dual-luciferase reporter assay was conducted to examine the effect of miR-214-5p on Wiskott-Aldrich Syndrome Like (WASL/ N-WASP). Western blot and qRT-PCR were used to measure the expressions of the E-cadherin, N-cadherin and Vimentin proteins. Transwell chamber assays were performed to detect cell invasion and migration. Results: Compared with normal tissues, HCC tissues demonstrated significantly lower expression of miR-214-5p. Overexpression of miR-214-5p significantly inhibited the migration and invasion of HCC cells and inhibition of miR-214-5p promoted the migration and invasion. Additionally, miR-214-5p suppressed the epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT). Further study showed WASL was a putative target gene of miR-214-5p. Up-regulating the expression of WASL could reverse the inhibition effect of miR-214-5p on invasion and migration. Conclusion: Our data suggested that miR-214-5p inhibited the invasion and migration of HepG2 and BEL-7402 by targeting WASL in Hepatocellular carcinoma.

Abstract:
The aim of this study is to detect the radioactivity of radionuclides and measure the specific activities and the uranium concentration in (19) samples of crude oil and oil waste were brought from two oil locations Dora refinery, Bijie refinery. The measurements in this study were done by using two techniques: 1- Gamma rays spectroscopy system was used to measure the specific activity for radionuclides. This system is consist of high purity of germanium detector (HPGe) with personal computer as multi channel analyzer (MCA) that computerized to plot the radioactive spectrum and compute the specific activities of the radionuclides. There are seven radionuclides are detected: (Bi-214, Ra-226, TI-208, Bi-212, Pb-212, K-40, and Cs-137), these radionuclides included; two radionuclides (Bi-214,Ra-226) belong to the U-238 series, three radionuclides (TI-208, Bi-212, Pb-212) belong to Th-232series, one natural radionuclide (K-40), and one artificial radionuclide (Cs-137). For Dora refinery samples, the averages of specific activities of (Bi-214, Ra-226) were (7.79, 16.08) Bq/kg respectively, the averages of specific activities of (TI-208, Bi-212, Pb-212) were (7.95,4.05,5.75) Bq/kg , the average of specific activities of (Cs-137) was (0.64) Bq/kg , the average of specific activities of (K-40) was (99.3) Bq/kg. For Bijie refinery samples, the average of specific activities of (Bi-214) was (0.39) Bq/kg, the averages specific activities of (Bi-212, Pb-212) were (0.02,0.01) Bq/kg, the average of specific activities of (K-40) was (2.28) Bq/kg , and three radionuclides (Ra-226, TI-208, and Cs-137) were not appeared in Bijie samples. 2- solid state nuclear track detectors technique (SSNTDs), the uranium concentration determined by using CR-39 track detector and fission fragment track technique, the nuclear reaction used as source of uranium fission fragment is U-235 (n-f) obtained by the bombardment of U-235with thermal neutrons emitted from (Am-Be) neutron source with flux (5000 n/cm2.s) for seven days, the concentration were calculated by comparison with the standard samples. The uranium concentration in Dora refinery samples were ranged between (0.95-3.34) ppm with average (2.03) ppm for solid samples and (1.25) ppm for liquid samples. The uranium concentration in Bijie refinery samples were ranged from (0.42-1.46) ppm with average (0.55) ppm in the solid samples and (1.24) ppm in the liquid samples, these results are agreement with the permissible limit from IAEA, the permissible limit is (1mSv/y) for the public.

Abstract:
Background Anti-Xa monitoring is utilized to measure the extent of anticoagulation in certain patient populations receiving enoxaparin. It is essential to accurately obtain this pharmacodynamic marker for safe and effective anticoagulation management. Objectives To determine the frequency of correctly drawn anti-Xa concentrations in accordance with predefined institutional criteria and to determine the number of dose adjustments implemented based on incorrectly drawn anti-Xa concentrations. Methods This was a retrospective, single-center, cohort study among adult patients who received treatment doses of enoxaparin with measured anti-Xa concentrations. Patients were excluded if they were pregnant, on hemodialysis, or received prophylactic dosing. Anti-Xa levels were defined as correctly measured if they were drawn 3 to 5 hours after the dose during steady state concentrations. Descriptive statistics were performed and analyzed via SPSS software. Results Overall, 203 patients were reviewed and 59 patients with 74 anti-Xa levels were included. The majority of anti-Xa levels (57/74; 77%) were drawn incorrectly and often resulted in collection of repeat anti-Xa samples. There were 12 documented dose adjustments and approximately 42% (5/12) were based on incorrectly drawn anti-Xa levels. Anti-Xa levels were within target range approximately 45% of the time. Conclusions Enoxaparin anti-Xa concentrations are frequently drawn incorrectly and dose adjustments are often performed based on these unsupported anti-Xa levels. This may present a potential risk to compromise patient safety.

Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to further examine the utility of Mitchell, Holtom, Lee, Sablynski, and Erez’s (2001) job embeddedness construct. The authors tested a revised version of their original multi-item scale, as well as a new global-item measure. Data were gathered from two independent samples (intercollegiate softball coaches,n= 214, and athletic department employees,n= 189). Results from both studies provide the strongest support for the global-item measure. The convergent, discriminant, and predictive validity of the measure was established. Results demonstrate the efficacy of the job embeddedness construct in explaining why people choose to stay in their organizations.

Abstract:
Conducting research about individuals’ feelings of belonging to a society comprising different social strata is of interest to researchers. National identity as a collective identity has gained salient attention in Malaysia because the country’s social structure is made up of different ethnic groups. To shed light on this topic, this study investigated national identity among undergraduate students of a public university in Malaysia. A survey questionnaire (the National Identity Measure or NIM) was utilized as the data collection instrument. Using a random proportional stratified sampling strategy, a total of 498 undergraduates studying in the University’s 15 different faculties were selected as respondents. The results of the study confirmed that, in a society that embraces various ethnic groups, a collective national identity can be measured. Keywords: Feeling of belonging, Malaysia, measurement, national identity, national identity measure.Cite as: Granhenat, M. & Abdullah, A.N. Abstract:
To evaluate and understand the efficacy of vaccine candidates, supportive immunological measures are needed. Critical attributes for a norovirus vaccine are the strength and breadth of antibody responses against the many different genotypes. In the absence of suitable neutralization assays to test samples from vaccine clinical trials, blockade assays offer a method that can measure functional antibodies specific for many of the different norovirus strains. This paper describes development and optimization of blockade assays for an extended panel of 20 different norovirus strains that can provide robust and reliable data needed for vaccine assessment. The blockade assays were used to test a panel of human clinical samples taken before and after vaccination with the Takeda TAK-214 norovirus vaccine. Great variability was evident in the repertoire of blocking antibody responses prevaccination and postvaccination among individuals. Following vaccination with TAK-214, blocking antibody levels were enhanced across a wide spectrum of different genotypes. The results indicate that adults may have multiple exposures to norovirus and that the magnitude and breadth of the complex preexisting antibody response can be boosted and expanded by vaccination.

Abstract:
In seeking to combat the abuse of limited liability, the wrongful trading provision under section 214 of the Insolvency Act 1986 has long formed part of the UK’s ex post facto creditor protection strategy. However, despite being introduced nearly forty years ago, claims for wrongful trading have been far and few, raising key questions over the provision’s potential. In light of these low numbers, this article assesses the effectiveness of section 214, by examining whether it achieves its underlying objectives. It is argued that, as the regime’s development has been riddled with a lack of clarity, judicial discretion, and inconsistency, officeholders currently face a number of difficulties. These difficulties mean there is currently insufficient incentive for officeholders to bring an action and thus section 214 is not achieving its objectives. However, the provision’s effectiveness can be improved by introducing an ex-ante measure into the ex post facto regime. Premised upon the idea that prevention is better than cure, this author proposes a new model for compulsory preappointment director education. By targeting potential troublemakers from the outset, this eliminates, or at least drastically reduces, the need to rely on section 214 in the first place. wrongful trading, limited liability, company law, insolvency, creditor protection, directors’ duties

Abstract:
Given a dataset, we quantify the size of patterns that must always exist in the dataset. This is done formally through the lens of Ramsey theory of graphs, and a quantitative bound known as Goodman’s theorem. By combining statistical tools with Ramsey theory of graphs, we give a nuanced understanding of how far away a dataset is from correlated, and what qualifies as a meaningful pattern. This method is applicable to a wide range of datasets. As examples, we analyze two very different datasets. The first is a dataset of repeated voters ( n = 435 ) in the 1984 US congress, and we quantify how homogeneous a subset of congressional voters is. We also measure how transitive a subset of voters is. Statistical Ramsey theory is also used with global economic trading data ( n = 214 ) to provide evidence that global markets are quite transitive. While these datasets are small relative to Big Data, they illustrate the new applications we are proposing. We end with specific calls to strengthen the connections between Ramsey theory and statistical methods.

Abstract:
214 Background: AC is indicated following curative-intent surgery for common solid tumors to reduce the chances of recurrence. Limited data are available to assess discrepancies between potential eligibility for chemotherapy, treatment recommendation and actual administration. For patients with completely resected early stage breast (BC), colorectal (CRC), and nonsmall lung cancer (NSCLC), QOPI assesses patient eligibility for AC, measures the rates of chemotherapy recommendation and administration. This analysis seeks to assess concordance between these measures and to explain differences. Methods: QOPI data are submitted by practices into a web-based system and stored as a relational database. For all categorical variables, frequency, and percent are presented. Concordance is shown as a rate—percent of charts eligible divided by those that met criteria. χ2tests were used to compare rates of recommended/received chemotherapy across cancer types. Results: Data were merged for 30,126 patients from the Fall 2011 and Spring 2012 QOPI collection periods. The analysis was limited to BC, CRC, and NSCLC patients for whom AC was clinically indicated by disease type and stage (eligible patients). Conclusions: Oncologists recommend AC with a high degree of predictability for eligible patients with BC and CRC, but at a lower rate for patients with NSCLC. Eligible NSCLC patients receive AC at a rate far lower than BC and CRC patients; these lower rates are due to patient refusal and medical contraindications. Patient factors such as consent and comorbidity must be considered in establishing quality measure benchmarks as they vary significantly among disease type. [Table: see text]

Abstract:
The purposes of this study were 1) to determine the compartmentation of body water in horses by using indicator dilution techniques and 2) to simultaneously measure bioelectrical impedance to current flow at impulse current frequencies of 5 and 200 kHz to formulate predictive equations that could be used to estimate total body water (TBW), extracellular fluid volume (ECFV), and intracellular fluid volume (ICFV). Eight horses and ponies weighing from 214 to 636 kg had catheters placed into the left and right jugular veins. Deuterium oxide, sodium thiocyanate, and Evans blue were infused for the measurement of TBW, ECFV, and plasma volume (PV), respectively. Bioelectrical impedance was measured by using a tetrapolar electrode configuration, with electrode pairs secured above the knee and hock. Measured TBW, ECFV, and PV were 0.677 ± 0.022, 0.253 ± 0.006, and 0.040 ± 0.002 l/kg body mass, respectively. Strong linear correlations were determined among measured variables that allowed for the prediction of TBW, ECFV, ICFV, and PV from measures of horse length or height and impedance. It is concluded that bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) can be used to improve the predictive accuracy of noninvasive estimates of ECFV and PV in euhydrated horses at rest.

Abstract:
26 Background: NKTR-262 is a novel intratumoral prodrug designed to promote tumor antigen release, an immune stimulatory environment, and antigen presentation. NKTR-214 increases CD8+ T cells and NK cells in the tumor microenvironment. The combination of NKTR-262 with NKTR-214 accesses innate and adaptive immunity to provide an abscopal response and systemic tumor immunity. The Phase 1b/2 REVEAL trial is enrolling. Methods: In a 3+3 Phase 1 design, pts who are relapsed/refractory to ≥1 CPI receive escalating doses of intratumoral (IT) NKTR-262 followed by combined q3w treatment of IT NKTR-262 and fixed-dose intravenous (IV) NKTR-214 (0.006 mg/kg). Phase 1 will evaluate PK, safety, efficacy, and determine recommended Phase 2 dose. Scans are conducted every 9 wks (± 1 wk). Peripheral blood (PB) and tumor tissue are collected to measure biomarkers of immune activation. In Phase 2 expansion, NKTR-262 + NKTR-214 ± IV nivolumab (360 mg) will be assessed in specific tumor cohorts of IO-naïve and experienced pts. Results: As of 06 Nov 2018, 11 pts had received at least one cycle of NKTR-262 + NKTR-214 therapy. 7/11 pts were efficacy evaluable with at least one on-treatment scan (4 MEL, 2 SARC, 1 CRC). 2/4 R/R melanoma pts had uPRs with 100% (scan 2) and 40% (scan 1) reductions in target lesions per RECIST 1.1, respectively. Both patients remain on treatment. Two SARC pts had stable disease at scan 1. No pts experienced G3 or higher TRAEs or immune-related adverse events (AEs). Most common G1-2 AEs were transient flu-like symptoms. Gene expression analysis of tumor and PB show dose-dependent induction (4 to 16-fold) of TLR target genes. Consistent with the mechanism of action for NKTR-214, PB flow cytometry shows an average 13-fold increase from baseline in Ki67+ CD8+T cells in 6 pts. Conclusions: NKTR-262 + NKTR-214 engage the immune activation cascade from local tumor antigen production to anti-tumor T cell response. Initial dose levels of NKTR-262 with fixed-dose NKTR-214 were well-tolerated with early evidence of clinical activity. These data support continued evaluation of the combination +/- nivolumab. Abstract:
The purpose of this research was to develop a questionnaire that measures students’ self and co-regulated learning processes during science learning. An instrument named Co-regulated Strategies for Learning Questionnaire (CRSLQ) was developed, and its validity and reliability were analysed. Factor analytic evidence from a sample (n=214) of science students indicated that the 21 items CRSLQ consists of four constructs: monitoring, help-seeking and help-giving, efforts regulation, and planning. Cronbach’s Alpha (α) coefficients were calculated for the reliability of CRSLQ scales which ranged from 0.87 to 0.92 and 0.95 for the entire questionnaire. Additional analysis with a second sample (n=40) showed that CRSLQ was an effective instrument for measuring co-regulated learning strategies during collaborative science learning. According to these results, the CRSLQ can be used as a valid and reliable instrument in science education. Key words: collaborative learning, co-regulated learning, efforts regulation, help-seeking and help-giving, monitoring, planning, science learning, self-regulated learning.

Abstract:
The relationship between skeletal muscle mass, visceral adipose tissue, insulin sensitivity, and glucose tolerance was examined in 214 overweight or obese, but otherwise healthy, men (n = 98) and women (n = 116) who participated in various exercise and (or) weight-loss intervention studies. Subjects had a 75 g oral glucose tolerance test and (or) insulin sensitivity measures by a 3 h hyperinsulinemic–euglycemic clamp technique. Whole-body skeletal muscle mass and visceral adipose tissue were measured using a multi-slice magnetic resonance imaging protocol. Total body skeletal muscle mass was not associated with any measure of glucose metabolism in men or women (p > 0.10). These observations remained independent of age and total adiposity. Conversely, visceral adipose tissue was a significant predictor of various measures of glucose metabolism in both men and women with or without control for age and (or) total body fat (p < 0.05). Although skeletal muscle is a primary site for glucose uptake and deposition, these findings suggest that unlike visceral adipose tissue, whole-body skeletal muscle mass per se is not associated with either glucose tolerance or insulin sensitivity in overweight and obese men and women.

In a phase 1 monotherapy trial, pts treated with NKTR-214 demonstrated a substantial increase in CD8+ T and NK cells within the tumor microenvironment even when pretreated with multiple prior immunotherapeutic agents (abstract submitted). Based on this biomarker data and a favorable safety profile, a trial combining NKTR-214 and nivolumab was initiated. Methods: This is an on-going phase 1/2 study of NKTR-214 plus nivolumab in Pts with either melanoma (Mel), NSCLC, renal, bladder, or TNBC. Pts who are immunotherapy naïve or checkpoint therapy relapse/refractory are being studied separately. NKTR-214 and nivolumab are administered IV on a q2w or q3w schedule. Cohort 1 received NKTR-214 0.006 mg/kg q3w with nivolumab 240 mg q2w. Blood and tumor tissue were collected to measure immune activation using flow cytometry, immunohistochemistry, T cell clonality and gene expression analyses. Results: As of February 7, 2017, 5 Pts have been treated with the combination and all Pts were naïve to checkpoint inhibitors. There have been no dose limiting toxicities, no drug-related or immune related grade 3-5 adverse events (TRAEs) and no Pts have discontinued treatment. The most common TRAEs were pruritis and rash. Radiographic scans were available for 2 Pts. On treatment, Pt 1 with Mel had a mixed radiographic response at 1st scan, a ~40% decrease in LDH and a robust tumor immune cell infiltrate at week 3 the majority being newly proliferating CD8+ T cells expressing PD-1. Pt 2 with Mel had an unconfirmed complete response per RECIST 1.1 after 6 weeks of treatment; follow up tumor response data will be presented. Conclusions: Preliminary data demonstrate that NKTR-214 and nivolumab combination therapy is well tolerated with early evidence of clinical activity. Updated safety, pharmacokinetics, tumor response and biomarker data will be presented. Clinical trial information: NCT02983045.

Abstract:
The COVID-19 outbreak has generated extreme vulnerability in the agriculture sector. Extension Advisory Service (EAS) systems have been playing a crucial role at the frontline of the response to the COVID-19 pandemic in rural areas. So, it is need of the hour to study extension offi cials’ attitude in delivering advisory services to farmers even during this pandemic situation. The overall objective of the study is to develop a scale to measure extension offi cials’ attitude towards their advisory services during COVID-19. Scale Discrimination Technique (SDT) was followed to develop the attitude scale. The procedure included Thurstone scaling, item analysis and scalogram analysis, and resulted in a largely unidimensional scale with a wide diverseness of item content and range of scores, corrected as far as possible for the operation of response styles, and possessing high reliability. Out of 60 statements, initially 30 statements selected using Thurstone scaling and further analysis done by summated ratings and phi coeffi cient calculated for those 30 statements and fi nally the developed scale consists of two forms A and B with 12 statements using Guttman scalogram analysis. The coeffi cient of reproducibility (Rep) of the two forms (0.856 and 0.956) gives the scale as a whole a Rep of 0.91, which implies that the scale is satisfactorily unidimensional with a standardized measure of reliability and validity. The developed scale used to study the extension offi cials’ attitude towards their advisory services which shows their attitude and it also helps them to strengthen their way of providing advisory services to farmers

Immune changes in the tumor microenvironment after NKTR-214 treatment was assessed in patients with locally advanced or metastatic solid tumors. Methods: NKTR-214 was administered IV in an outpatient setting q2w or q3w. Serial blood and tumor tissue samples were collected to measure immune activation using immunophenotyping including flow cytometry, immunohistochemistry (IHC), T cell clonality and gene expression analyses. Results: 26 patients (pts) have been treated with NKTR-214 at q3w, 4@0.003, 9@0.006, 6@0.009 and 1@0.012 mg/kg. Six pts received 0.006 mg/kg q2w. 58% of pts had prior immunotherapy. The most common Gr1-2 TRAEs were fatigue (73%) and pruritus (65%), and decreased appetite (46%). One pt experienced Gr3 syncope and hypotension at the highest dose tested and continued treatment at a lower dose. No drug-related AEs led to study discontinuation. No immune-related AEs or capillary leak syndrome were observed. 6 pts (23%) experienced tumor shrinkage from 10-30%. Three immunotherapy naïve pts receiving sequential anti-PD1 therapy, after ending treatment with NKTR-214, experienced significant tumor regression at first scan. In all pts evaluated, blood samples showed increases in newly proliferating (Ki67+) T and NK cells 8 days post dose. Flow cytometry and/or IHC revealed an up to 10-fold increase from baseline in tumor CD8+T and NK cells in the tumor microenvironment, with minimal changes to Tregs. PD-1 expression increased 2-fold in TILs. Gene expression analysis of tumor tissue showed increases in several immune checkpoint genes, cytotoxic markers (IFNg, PRF1, and GZMB), as well as a dynamic change in T cell clonality. Conclusions: Based on a favorable safety profile and strong correlative biomarker data, a phase 1/2 trial combining NKTR-214 and nivolumab is currently enrolling. Abstract:
Efficiency is one of the tools used by the Government to measure the success of an activity. Based on PMK Number 214/ PMK.02/2017 it is regulated regarding the measurement and Evaluation of Budget Performance for the implementation of Work Plans and Ministries/Institutions Budgets. To measure budget performance achievement based on aspects of implementation 4 (four) variables i.e. budget absorption, output achievements, efficiency, and consistency of budget absorption towards planning, are used. This study aims to measure the efficiency level of Ministries/Institutions budget performance using Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA). However, the variables used are not only based on measurement aspects of implementation according to PMK Number 214/PMK.02/2017 but also the number of satker (satuan Kerja). The approach used in the DEA model is Constant Return to Scale (CRS) model and Variable Return to Scale (VRS) model. This study uses the DEA model approach by comparing the results of the CRS model with VRS model. Based on DEA results, the number of Ministries/Institutions that have efficient scores is less than the number of Ministries/Institutions with inefficient scores. In addition, based on the value of slacks in each Ministries/Institutions, the variables that need to be improved are the coordination among satkers in when they are recording their performance achievements in the SMART application. Other variables that also require improvements are the ministry/agency’s willingness to revise their Disbursement Plan (RPD) after each budget revision and the speed at which they spend their budget once DIPA is stipulated.

Abstract:
Summary Aim: In 214 patients with benign thyroid diseases the time-course of urinary iodine excretion (UIE) was investigated in order to identify changes after radioiodine therapy (RITh). Method: UIE was measured photometrically (cerium-arsenite method) and related to urinary creatinine on the first and last day of the radioiodine test and then three days, seven days, four weeks, and six months after 1311 administration. Results: As compared with the level found immediately before radioiodine therapy, median UIE had almost doubled four weeks after therapy and was still significantly elevated six months after therapy. This increase correlated significantly with the target volume as measured by scintigraphy and sonography. Conclusions: The persistent elevation of UIE for months after RITh is a measure of treatment-induced damage to thyrocytes. Therefore, in view of the unfavourable kinetics of iodine that follow it, RITh should if possible be given via a single-dose regime.

Abstract:
AbstractObjectives: To adequately monitor the course of cognitive functioning in persons with moderate to severe dementia, relevant cognitive tests for the advanced dementia stages are needed. We examined the ability of a test developed for the advanced dementia stages, the Severe Impairment Battery Short version (SIB-S), to measure cognitive change over time. Second, we examined type of memory impairment measured with the SIB-S in different dementia stages. Methods: Participants were institutionalized persons with moderate to severe dementia (N = 217). The SIB-S was administered at 6-month intervals during a 2-year period. Dementia severity at baseline was classified according to Global Deterioration Scale criteria. We used mixed models to evaluate the course of SIB-S total and domain scores, and whether dementia stage at baseline affected these courses. Results: SIB-S total scores declined significantly over time, and the course of decline differed significantly between dementia stages at baseline. Persons with moderately severe dementia declined faster in mean SIB-S total scores than persons with moderate or severe dementia. Between persons with moderate and moderately severe dementia, there was only a difference in the rate of decline of semantic items, but not episodic and non-semantic items. Conclusions: Although modest floor and slight ceiling effects were noted in severe and milder cases, respectively, the SIB-S proved to be one of few available adequate measures of cognitive change in institutionalized persons with moderate to severe dementia. Abstract:
Across cultures, imitation provides a crucial route to learning during infancy. However, neural predictors which would enable early identification of infants at risk of suboptimal developmental outcomes are still rare. In this paper, we examine associations between ERP markers of habituation and novelty detection measured at 1 and 5 months of infant age in the UK (n = 61) and rural Gambia (n = 214) and infants’ responses on a deferred imitation task at 8 and 12 months. In both cohorts, habituation responses at 5 months significantly predicted deferred imitation responses at 12 months of age in both cohorts. Furthermore, ERP habituation responses explained a unique proportion of variance in deferred imitation scores which could not be accounted for by a neurobehavioural measure (Mullen Scales of Early Learning) conducted at 5 months of age. Our findings highlight the potential for ERP markers of habituation and novelty detection measured before 6 months of age to provide insight into later imitation abilities and memory development across diverse settings.

Abstract:
214 Background: The incidence of multiple primary cancers (MPC) in cancer survivors is increasing. However, little is known about the psychological effects of MPCs on cancer survivors. The purpose of this systematic review was to synthesize the evidence regarding the impact of MPC on psychological distress in cancer survivors. Methods: Relevant studies were identified in PubMed database (up to June 2015). Non-English articles were excluded. Two independent evaluators reviewed articles for relevancy and data extraction. Data was organized and recorded using a coding log with exclusionary rationale, a PRISMA flow diagram, and a standardized table of evidence. Effect sizes (ES) were calculated using Cohen’s d to measure relationship magnitude and direction. Results: Of the 543 potentially relevant articles identified, four articles met criteria and were retained for analysis. Different quality of life (QOL) measures were used to assess psychological distress across studies, so ES were calculated for individual studies. There were consistently small but significant ES found for the impact of MPC on distress. When compared to survivors of a single cancer: one study found lower global QOL and higher total stress (ES, 0.1430 and 0.3653); one study reported that those with MPC were more likely to experience frequent mental distress and sleep problems (ES, 0.1404 and 0.2235); and one study found that those with MPC had lower global QOL and emotional function and greater anxiety and depressive symptoms (ES range, 0.1026 - 0.3215). Finally, the one study that evaluated suicidal ideation in survivors of childhood cancers did not find a higher incidence among those with MPC. Conclusions: The ES noted in the four studies suggest a small but significant increase in psychological distress in survivors of MPC compared to survivors of a single cancer. Clinicians should be aware of this at-risk population when screening for distress in cancer survivors. Additional studies that control for care transition points known to increase distress are warranted to explore the impact of MPC on psychological distress over time. Additionally, as the science in this area grows, it will be necessary to reevaluate the literature.

Abstract:
Assortment structure in poplar plantation Populus x euramericana I-214 was obtained by European standard for round wood. Based on the data of theoretical cutting, the correlation between total volume of assortments and tree diameter at breast height was established. Model of the function representing the relation between total volume of assortments of superior quality and tree diameter is reciprocal. The relation between total volumes of normal-quality assortments can be represented by a logarithm model of the function, and the relation between total volume of assortments which cannot be classified into any quality class and tree diameter is best represented by a degree model. Knots up to the height of 6 m had a significant effect on the percentage of classes of superior quality. If the lower branches were pruned from standing trees up to the height of 6 m, the percentage of this class would increase averagely by 22.07%. This shows that pruning of lower branches is a very significant plantation tending measure and that it should be performed in time. Sweep also caused the decrease of percentage of superior assortments, but not to the expected degree, because the plantation is situated along the river Sava.

Abstract:
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to determine the influence of supplier competence on the performance of state corporations in KenyaMethodology: The study adopted cross-sectional survey design using both quantitative and qualitative approaches. The target population was all the 187 state corporations in Kenya. The study employed a census approach. Primary data was collected using questionnaires. A pilot study was conducted to measure the research instruments reliability and validity. Descriptive statistics were used aided by Statistical Packages for Social Sciences version 24 to compute percentages of respondents’ answers. Inferential statistics using linear regression and correlation analysis were applied to assist examining relationship between the research variables. The results were presented using tables and graphs. Results: The findings revealed that supplier competence explained 44.1 % of the total variations in performance of state corporations in Kenya. Further, the results indicated that the overall model was statistically significant as supported by a p value of 0.000. This was supported by an F statistic of 111.904 and the reported p value (0.000) which was less than the conventional probability of 0.05 significance level. In addition, the findings show that there is a positive and significant relationship between supplier competence and performance of state corporations in Kenya as supported by a p value of 0.000 and a beta coefficient of (0.903). This implies that an increase in supplier competence by 1 unit would increase the performance of state corporations by 0.903units.Unique contribution to theory, practice and policy: Based on the findings, the study recommended that suppliers should develop competent technical abilities so as to provide high quality products or services. Some of the technical dimensions that suppliers should develop competence in include; compliance with quantity, compliance with due date, compliance with packaging standard, production planning systems of suppliers, and maintenance activities of suppliers, plant layout and material. It’s also recommended that state corporations in Kenya should check frequently if supplier organisation is abreast with the newer information technology developments as technology is very dynamic and changes regularly as the technology that was used in the past is not the one we using now and it will not be the one we will use tomorrow.

Abstract:
Scientific literature, as the major medium that carries knowledge between scientists, exhibits explosive growth in the last century. Despite the frequent use of many tangible measures, to quantify the influence of literature from different perspectives, it remains unclear how knowledge is embodied and measured among tremendous scientific productivity, as knowledge underlying scientific literature is abstract and difficult to concretize. In this regard, there has laid a vacancy in the theoretical embodiment of knowledge for their evaluation and excavation. Here, for the first time, we quantify the knowledge from the perspective of information structurization and define a new measure of knowledge quantification index (KQI) that leverages the extent of disorder difference caused by hierarchical structure in the citation network to represent knowledge production in the literature. Built upon 214 million articles, published from 1800 to 2021, KQI is demonstrated for mining influential classics and laureates that are omitted by traditional metrics, thanks to in-depth utilization of structure. Due to the additivity of entropy and the interconnectivity of the network, KQI assembles numerous scientific impact metrics into one and gains interpretability and resistance to manipulation. In addition, KQI explores a new perspective regarding knowledge measurement through entropy and structure, utilizing structure rather than semantics to avoid ambiguity and attain applicability.

A new assay for the activity of cartilage link protein is described. The method is based on the finding [Plaas, Sandy & Muir (1983) Biochem. J. 214, 855-864] that addition of link protein to [35S]sulphate-labelled proteoglycan aggregates from rabbit chondrocyte cultures resulted in the formation of link-stabilized aggregates. The percentage aggregate was found to be related linearly to the amount of purified bovine link protein added in the 20-120 ng range. The assay was used to monitor loss of link-protein activity during heat denaturation and to measure binding of link protein by purified proteoglycan monomer.

Reports a study of 214 Chinese Canadian consumers across eight product categories. This study shows that intracultural differences in consumer behavior are inadequately explained by the psychological construct of ethnic identification, and that additional explanatory power is achieved when incorporating the ethnic homogeneity of social ties. The results of the study support the proposition that the ethnic homogeneity of strong social ties exerts significant influence over an individual’s consumption of ethnic products, and is a much more robust predictor variable than ethnic identification. Also calls for a more theory‐based measure for the construct ethnic identification.

Abstract:
Riau Province is one of the provinces which have not revised the RTRWP until 2017. One possible cause relates to the conflicts of interest among the participating actors. Each actor exercises the power influences to secure individual interests. This study aims to identify the participating actors, to measure the power influences exchanged between the actors and to recommend solutions for resolving the Riau’s RTRWP revision issue. The method used is Actor-Centered Power (ACP) approach, which is supported by Content Analysis of Riau's RTRWP document and related regulations. The research findings show that there are at least nine actors involved in the revision process of the Riau’s RTRWP, where the role of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry is the most powerful then followed by the Riau Province Government. The research also shows the involvement of Ombudsman Agency, private corporations, and non-governmental organization (NGO) in the Riau’s RTRWP revision process. To accelerate the completion of the Riau’s RTRWP Regional Regulation Draft, coordination and integration between the participating actors are required as well as the law enforcement against legal violations and comprehensive conflict management.

Abstract:
BackgroundThis paper describes the protocol and methodological prerequisites for a randomised controlled exercise intervention. Selected baseline data from the study are also presented, demonstrating some methodological challenges related to exercise intervention trials. The aim of the trial was to study the effects of exercise training on physiological responses to acute psychosocial stress in untrained individuals.MethodsIndividuals with a low level of physical activity were invited to participate in an exercise intervention lasting for 6 months. A total of 119 participants were included and went through a peak oxygen uptake test and a psychosocial stress test at baseline. Adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) and cortisol were measured in connection to the stress test to identify the physiological response.ResultsAlmost 90% of the participants reported themselves as untrained, but results from the objectively measured oxygen uptake did not seem to correspond to the reported sedentary lifestyle. The primary outcome measures at baseline varied between individuals. The mean change from pre-test to peak value was 214% for ACTH and 94% for cortisol. Of these, 13 individuals did not respond in ACTH and/or and cortisol.DiscussionSupposedly untrained individuals seeking participation in an exercise intervention might not be as untrained as they report, a methodological consideration of importance when evaluating the effects of training. Another important consideration is related to the primary outcome measure, which should be measurable and possible to affect. Absence of reaction at baseline means that changes can only be detected as an increased reaction.

Abstract:
This study investigated gender differences in mathematics achievement of first-year B.Sc. Degree (mathematics major) students at the University of the North in South Africa. They were 214 male and female students. The ages of students ranged from 17 to 66 for 178 men ( M = 22.3) and 17 to 35 years for 36 women ( M = 21.5). With their marks in mathematics as the criterion measure, no significant difference in the mean achievement scores of the two groups was noted; however, a qualitative examination of the category-wise achievement scores of the two groups suggests further study of the bases for some women's achievement to be higher than the men's.

Abstract:
This paper presents a scale to measure the professional self-esteem of physicians. It describes the scale's theoretical basis, psychometric properties, and its value for explaining physicians' well-being. Statistical analyses, conducted on data from two independent studies of physicians in Israel ( ns = 214 and 122), indicate internal consistency and construct validity of the scale. Scores on professional self-esteem are associated positively with life satisfaction and work satisfaction and negatively with burnout. Scores also correlate significantly with global self-esteem and with anxiety. The professional self-esteem scale appears to be a useful tool for explaining professionals' work performance, work-related well-being, and general well-being.

Abstract:
As the spiritual homeland marker of modern urbanites, ancient villages have grown into popular tourist attractions. However, the existing literature lacks a conceptually valid and psychometrically sound scale to measure the existential value of ancient villages that meet the material and spiritual needs of tourists. Guided by the concept of genius loci in architectural phenomenology, this study developed and validated a scale to measure the genius loci of ancient villages from the perspective of tourists experience in the Chinese context. Following multistage scale development and validation procedures, tourists in two World Cultural Heritage ancient villages were sampled in two stages (Study 1, n = 214; Study 2, n = 228) to establish the psychometric properties of a genius loci scale. A three-dimensional (earthbound atmosphere, architectural culture, and spiritual homeland) genius loci measurement with 10 items was identified, and the scale showed good reliability and validity. This study extends the current ancient village tourism literature and provides a measurement tool for further investigation by academics and tourism professionals.

Abstract:
The purpose of our study was to evaluate a new region-specific outcome measure in hand and upper limb surgery: the Patient Outcomes of Surgery (POS)-Hand/Arm questionnaire using the generic Short Form Health Survey (SF)-36 questionnaire as a ‘gold standard’ comparative measure. The POS-Hand/Arm preop questionnaire and the SF-36 questionnaire were completed by 214 patients on the day of their hand or upper limb surgery; and a postop POS-Hand/Arm and the SF-36 questionnaire were completed by patients 3 months after their initial surgery. The POS-Hand/Arm questionnaire responses were psychometrically evaluated and it was shown to have high internal consistency; high total-item correlations; signification scale correlations with the SF-36; and a low proportion of missing data. The POS-Hand/Arm questionnaire is a psychometrically sound instrument that can be used pre- and post-surgery to evaluate patient-based outcomes for a wide range of conditions in hand and upper limb surgery.

Abstract:
Background The use of electronic-based devices to measure and to improve adherence of subjects in clinical trials is increasing. AiCure has developed a mobile technology that is claimed to provide visual confirmation of drug ingestion. While there is evidence suggesting that including such self-monitoring device in a study increases adherence, the quality of the data produced by the device may be questionable. Can the mobile technology reliably distinguish whether a subject takes the study drug or not? Methods Adherence was calculated based on exposure, self-reporting and self-monitoring for subjects randomized to an anti-depressant. Levels of adherence and agreement between the three approaches were investigated based on calculation of proportions, two-way tables and receiver operating curves. Results A total of 214 subjects had measured concentrations of study drug at all three time points (end of weeks 3, 4 and 5), along with adherence data to define proportion of days adherent based on self-reporting and the self-monitoring instrument developed by AiCure. Self-reported adherence proportions were higher than self-monitored adherence proportions, although both were high (>90%). Neither self-reported and self-monitored adherence agreed with exposure-based adherence. Conclusion Both self-reported and self-monitored adherence overestimated adherence. Neither the self-reported nor the self-monitored adherence measure reflected subjects’ actual adherence. This prompts for cautiousness when interpreting either of them, and it underlines the need for thorough validation of electronic devices and software that claims to measure adherence. The AiCure instrument may not be able to reliably determine whether the subjects swallow the study medication.

Abstract:
<span lang="EN-US">Basically, human can sense the active body force trough the soles of their feet and can feel the position vector of zero moment point (ZMP) based on the center of pressure (CoP) from active body force. This behavior is adapted by T-FLoW humanoid robot using unique sensor which is piezoelectric sensor. Piezoelectric sensor has a characteristic which is non-continuous reading (record a data only a moment). Because of it, this sensor cannot be used to stream data such as flex sensor, loadcell sensor, and torque sensor like previous research. Therefore, the piezoelectric sensor still can be used to measure the position vector of ZMP. The idea is using this sensor in a special condition which is during landing condition. By utilizing 6 unit of piezoelectric sensor with a certain placement, the position vector of ZMP (X-Y-axis) and pressure value in Z-axis from action body force can be found. The force resultant method is used to find the position vector of ZMP from each piezoelectric sensor. Based on those final conclusions in each experiment, the implementation of foot pressure sensor modul using piezoelectric sensor has a good result (94%) as shown in final conclusions in each experiment. The advantages of this new foot pressure sensor modul is low-cost design and similar result with another sensor. The disadvantages of this sensor are because of the main characteristic of piezoelectric sensor (non-continuous read) sometimes the calculation has outlayer data.</span>

Abstract:
The objective of this study was to detect gene expression differences among blastomeres from 4- and 8-cell stage mouse embryos by a sensitive method. In earlier studies gene expression was determined in pooled or single embryos. With the higher levels of precision afforded by our method, we could quantify mRNA in single blastomeres. For comparison of gene expression, different inner cell mass specific (Oct-4, Nanog) and trophectoderm-specific (Glut-3) genes and the housekeeping beta-actin gene (for reference) were chosen. Late 4- and early 8-cell stage embryos were obtained from oviducts 58 and 66 h post-hCG, respectively. The embryos were collected in CZB-HEPES and the zonae pellucidae were dissolved by acid Tyrode solution. Blastomeres were separated mechanically from each other by gentle pipetting with a fire-polished glass capillary. Messenger RNA was isolated from the frozen blastomeres using the Dynabeads® mRNA DIRECTTM Micro Kit (Kvalitex Kft., 1136 Budapest, Hungary) following the manufacturer's protocol. The reverse transcription reactions were performed at 25°C for 10 min, and then at 42°C for 1 h followed by 99°C for 5 min. Real-time PCR was performed in an iCycler iQ Real-Time PCR Detection System (Bio-Rad Laboratories, 1094 Budapest, Hungary). Reaction mixtures, which were separated for each gene, consisted of QuantiTect iQ SYBR Green Supermix (Bio-Rad Laboratories), 500 nm of both primers, and a 1/8 aliquot of the blastomere cDNA. The cDNA template was denatured by heating to 95°C for 2 min and amplified by 50 cycles of 95°C for 20 s, 60°C for 20 s, and 72°C for 20 s, with a single fluorescence measurement at each cycle. When the reaction was finished, melting curves were plotted to confirm product purity. By this procedure we could measure the expression level of four genes in six 4- and 8-cell-stage embryos. Glut-3 expression was not detectable in the blastomeres of 4-cell stage embryos. In spite of the 1.3–1.5-fold technical error, Oct-4 and Nanog showed 10-fold and 9-fold differences, respectively. Among the blastomeres of the same embryo, one of the 4-cell-stage showed notably high expression of Oct-4. In the 8-cell stage blastomeres Oct-4 expression showed slight differences (2–8-fold), and Nanog and Glut-3 showed 28-fold and 12-fold differences, respectively. Two of the 8-cell blastomeres showed notably high expression of Nanog. In conclusion, this method was accurate and sensitive enough to measure the expression of different genes in a single blastomere. We found that the mRNA levels of Oct-4 and Nanog have remarkably discrete differences within the blastomeres of a 4-cell-stage embryo. Expression of Nanog gene showed notable differences within blastomeres of an 8-cell-stage embryo. These differences may show a very early sign of the cell fate determination. Abstract:
Background:Skeletal muscle mass is an important factor for various diseases’ outcomes. The psoas muscle cross-sectional area on the abdominal computed tomography (CT), gait speed, and handgrip strength is used to measure it. However, it is difficult to measure the neurological patients’ muscle mass or function because (1) we do not perform abdominal CT. (2) Such patients have impaired consciousness, gait disturbance, paresis, and need of rest. Temporal muscle thickness (TMT) on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is now attractive for skeletal muscle volume indicator, but the reference values are not established. We herein investigated the standard value of the Japanese TMT using the brain check-up database by MRI.Methods:We retrospectively investigated 360 Japanese individuals from two institutions between 2017 and 2019. We measured TMT on the T1-weighted images in the previously reported way. The associations between TMT and other variables were analyzed. Results:TMT of 214 women and 146 men, ranging from 35 to 84 years old, was investigated. TMT ranged from 3.69 to 16.90 mm. Mean TMT values were significantly higher in men compared to women except for the over 70-year-old cohort. TMT was correlated to weight and body mass index in both sexes. Conclusion:This is the first retrospective study on the standard TMT values from the Japanese brain check-up database. Our results were just reference values, but these would be useful for further investigation in other neurosurgical and neurological diseases regarding muscle volume or sarcopenia.

Abstract:
214 Background: While caring for patients with metastatic cancer can be emotional, relationships between the emotions of oncologists and their patients have not been examined. As patients and oncologists read emotional cues in encounters, emotions of one or both may impact the other. We explored associations between dispositional affect, tendencies to emotionally respond to situations in certain ways, in oncologists and depressive symptoms in their patients with newly diagnosed metastatic lung and gastrointestinal (GI) cancers. Methods: As part of an ongoing trial of early palliative care, participants were assessed at baseline for depressive symptoms (Patient Health Questionnaire-9, PHQ9) within 8 weeks of diagnosis with metastatic lung and GI cancers. Oncologists providing care for these patients completed the Positive and Negative Affect Scale (PANAS), a validated measure of dispositional affect with positive and negative dimensions. Associations between patient depressive symptoms and oncologists' positive and negative dispositional affect were tested with linear regression models. Results: Sixteen of the 18 oncologists with patients in the trial completed the PANAS. Among 323 participants with baseline assessments, 277 (86%) had oncologists who completed the PANAS. Mean age=64.6, 129 (46%) were female, 159 (57%) had GI and 118 (43%) lung cancer, and mean PHQ9 score=6.5. Positive and negative dispositional affect were not associated with oncologists’ sex, years from training, hours in clinic, and cancer specialization. Patient depressive symptoms were significantly higher if their oncologists reported greater negative dispositional affect (p=.04). The relationship remained significant adjusting for patient age, sex, cancer type, ECOG PS, smoking, and number of oncology visits (β=.13, t=2.1, p=.04). PHQ9 scores were not associated with oncologists’ positive dispositional affect. Conclusions: Depressive symptoms in patients with metastatic lung and GI cancers appear to be associated with their oncologists’ negative dispositional affect. Determining the direction of the association may lead to new ways of improving patients and/or oncologists moods.
