Abstract:
ABSTRACT Objective To explore the dimensionality of the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) among Colombian college students. Methods A validation study was designed, involving the participation of a sample of 786 health science students (medicine, nursing, and psychology) aged between 18 and 27 (M=20.0, SD = 1.9). The participants completed the 21-item BDI. Internal consistency was calculated (Cronbach's alpha and McDonald's omega) and dimensionality was demonstrated using factorial confirmatory analysis (CFA). Results The Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin (KMO) measure of sampling adequacy was high (0.898) and the Bartlett's sphericity test gave excellent results (chi-square = 3,102.60; df = 210; p < 0.001). One-, two- and three-dimensional models were used. The unidimensional model performed best, representing 24.8% of the total variance, high internal consistency, a Cronbach's alpha of 0.83 and a McDonald's omega of 0.84. However, the CFA did not fit adequately (chi-square = 583.79; df = 189; p < 0.001, RMSEA = 0.052, CI 90% 0.047-0.056, CFI = 0.87, TLI = 0.85 and SMSR = 0.04). Conclusions The best factor solution for the BDI is given by the unidimensional model, which presents high internal consistency. However, its adjustment in the CFA is not acceptable.

Abstract:
Since 9/11 an enormous amount of literature and media coverage has been devoted to anti-Americanism in France. Yet the American model seems to be overwhelmingly present in French life and culture. There is a fascination for it among all classes, from disadvantaged suburban youths who try to imitate African Americans, follow American clothing fashions, and have Power Rangers as heroes, to political elites who never tire of recommending to us the American model (pension funds, the two-party system, education, etc.) and propose adapting it to the French setting. Nothing illustrates this paradox better than the controversial and popular institution of McDonald's in France, which is loved and hated to the point of occasionally provoking a national crisis as well as a number of social conflicts in recent years. After retracing briefly the expansion of McDonald's in France, I will examine the opposition it has aroused, making a distinction between political opposition and opposition in the workplace, which takes the form of a struggle against working conditions, the conception of Mcwork and McManagement. I will look at the people who carry on this struggle and what it all means in terms of resistance to “Americanization.”

Abstract:
This article focuses on understanding the perceptions of 31 Ecuadorian teachers and 34 Ecuadorian university students about the Puentedura Substitution, Augmentation, Modification, and Redefinition (SAMR) model in the English class. It has helped teachers integrate technology into their classes. The tool used to evaluate the model consisted of 20 items with 5 questions for each SAMR dimension. The reliability of the model was measured with McDonald's ω (0.94) in a general context and each dimension (S: (ω=0.88), A: (ω=0.82), M: (ω=0.85) R: ω=0.87)). The results on the perceptions of teachers and students were very enlightening to understand how they implement technology in English classrooms before and after the pandemic. They consider the use of technological tools to be beneficial for learning English as a foreign language.

The objective of this research was to elaborate a ludic-musical model for the development of specific motor skills in elementary school students; the research was of a propositional type with a quantitative approach, descriptive scope, and non-experimental trans-sectional design. A sample of 30 students was used and a test consisting of 24 items was applied to diagnose the level of motor skills in children; the reliability of the instrument was checked by means of the McDonald's Omega coefficient, which was 0.973. The results showed that the students are at the following levels: 56% low, 37% medium, and 7% high. Consequently, it can be concluded that there is a level of motor skills below average, so it is necessary to propose a structured musical play model, taking into account music, games, and physical circuits. Abstract:
The aim of this study is to test the unidimensional 9-items factorial model, about psychological stress, with a non-clinical sample of Canadian students, evaluated by the metric principals of factorial analysis and internal consistency. A sample of 546 university students (Women = 79.6%, Men = 20.4%, Mean age = 23.2, Standard Deviation = 7.3) were used. The results of the exploratory factorial analysis (explaining about 55.3% of the total variance of the construct) and confirmatory (GFI = 0.994, AGFI = 0.991, CMIN / DF = 3.77, RMSEA = 0.071, CFI = 0.985) satisfactorily confirmed its unidimensionality. The results of the internal consistency study, obtained by Cronbach's Alpha, McDonald's Omega, Greatest Lower Bound coefficient, and also the EAP scores, ensure the accuracy of the tested model. New studies should explore and test other important metric qualities of this instrument (content validity and test-retest reliability, among others).

Abstract:
Drawing on George Ritzer's sociological concept of McDonaldization, this article explores the transformation of burial practices in Kuwait. It is argued that traditional, religious, and private ways of dealing with death have been modernized using the fast-food model of McDonald's. This article examines Islamic teachings on burial and how that model has been applied to the traditional Muslim funerary services, including cemetery management, grave excavation, funeral prayers, burial, and condolences, to make them more efficient vis-à-vis more profitable. Based on personal observations and random interviews, the study finds that the state bureaucracy in Kuwait has made burial rituals more efficient, standardized, calculable, and controlled. Furthermore, several associated irrationalities are also considered. Findings suggest that some individuals may not be happy with these changes but there is no popular resistance to McDonaldization of the burial practices, probably due to the authoritarian and welfare nature of the State of Kuwait.

Abstract:
The present purpose was to validate the Mini—IPIP scale, a short measure of the five-factor model personality traits, with a sample of Chinese earthquake survivors. A total of 1,563 participants, ages 16 to 85 years, completed the Mini—IPIP scale and a measure of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) symptoms. Confirmatory factor analysis supported the five-factor structure of the Mini—IPIP with adequate values of various fit indices. This scale also showed values of internal consistency, Cronbach's alphas ranged from .79 to .84, and McDonald's omega ranged from .73 to .82 for scores on each subscale. Moreover, the five personality traits measured by the Mini—IPIP and those assessed by other big five measures had comparable patterns of relations with PTSD symptoms. Findings indicated that the Mini—IPIP is an adequate short-form of the Big-Five factors of personality, which is applicable with natural disaster survivors.

Abstract:
Covid-19 pandemic has had a negative impact on mental health, including stress. The goal of our study was to design and psychometrically validate the Stress Scale for Transmissible Diseases (APA scale). The discriminative item analysis test allowed the elimination of four items, leaving the final test with 10 items. Likewise, the convergent validity using the Social Anxiety Questionnaire (SAQ) was r= .377. Confirmatory factor analysis confirmed the two-component structure: general stress and stress in the face of Covid-19. Multivariate correlations between items were obtained using the fit indices according to the expected model. Reliability indices were good (Cronbach's α= .841 and McDonald's ω= .848) and percentile norms were established by sex with a sample of 1,000 university students, with 28% of women and 22.9% of men having a high level of stress in the face of transmissible diseases. These results of validity and reliability of the APA scale show its usefulness in assessing stress in the face of transmissible diseases.

Abstract:
Identity has been proposed as a mechanism to increase persistence within Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education programs. To assess the impact of identity on STEM persistence, measures that produce valid and reliable data within a given STEM discipline need to be employed. Therefore, this study developed and evaluated the functioning of science and chemistry identity measures in the context of university-level chemistry courses. The developed measures were administered to students enrolled in general and organic chemistry courses at four universities across the United States. Validity and reliability evidence for the data provided by the novel measures was supported using confirmatory factor analysis and McDonald's omega. Additionally, two competing structural equation models (SEMs), designed to explore the relations between mastery experiences, verbal persuasion, situational interest, and science or chemistry identity, were tested and compared to previously reported results. Both SEMs produced acceptable data-model fit, therefore a superior model was chosen based on theoretical support. Within both SEMs, the direct pathway (relation) between mastery experiences and identity was nonsignificant. The more supported model proposed that the relation was indirect and facilitated through verbal persuasion and situational interest. While the indirect relation was supported in both courses, the predominate pathway varied by course. Limitations of the science identity measure, recommendations for future use of the Measure of Chemistry Identity (MoChI), and suggestions for the facilitation of positive identity formation within chemistry classrooms are discussed.

Abstract:
Introduction. The assessment of student motivation can be a powerful tool for understanding the factors that can influence the school environment, where students, families, teachers, psychologists or administration can develop interventions related to the improvement of learning through the motivational style based on the Self-Determination Theory (SDT). The present study aims to offer a Spanish version of the Academic Self-Regulation Questionnaire (SRQ-A), one of the most widely used instruments worldwide to measure academic motivation. Method. A confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) was conducted on a sample of 1343 elementary school students aged 8 to 13 years. To analyse the divergent validity, a correlation analysis was carried out between the four-factor model of the SRQ-A and to analyse its reliability, Cronbach's alpha and McDonald's omega were used. Also, its invariance was tested taking gender and grade as reference. Finally, in order to analyse its convergent validity, a Pearson correlation of the motivational regulatory styles with the level of satisfaction of basic psychological needs was carried out. Results. A good convergent and discriminant validity of the reduced Spanish version of the SRQ-A was shown, as a positive correlation was observed between the most self-determined styles and the level of satisfaction of autonomy, competence and relatedness needs. A multiple-group CFA showed that the structure of the four-factor model did not vary according to gender or grade level. Discussion or Conclusion. The Spanish version of the SRQ-A demonstrates that it is a reliable instrument for measuring academic motivation described in the TAD in elementary school students.

Abstract:
AimsThe aim of this study was to examine the factor structure of attitudes towards psychiatry among medical students by using the ‘Attitude towards psychiatry-30’ (ATP-30) scale, which is one of the most widely used psychometric tools in assessing medical students’ attitudes regarding psychiatry. We also aimed to explore the possible existence of meaningful subscales in the ATP-30 scale.MethodSecondary data from a survey of 743 final-year medical students from nine medical schools in Sri Lanka were subjected to factor analysis. Models based on empirical evidence were tested with Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) for model fit using Comparative Fit Index (CFI), Tucker Lewis Index (TLI), root mean square error of approximation (RMSEA) and Chi square. To explore the underlying latent structure of the scale, Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) with oblique (i.e. Promax) rotation was employed. Horn's parallel analysis and goodness-of-fit statistics for a series of EFA models tested with different numbers of factors were used in determining the number of factors to retain. Items conceptually external to the emerging factors or with factor loadings less than 0.4 were discarded. Gender invariance of the final model was tested by configural, metric and scalar invariance. Internal consistency of subscales was assessed using McDonald's omega (ω).ResultThree models based on literature (one-, five-, and eight- factor) were disproved by CFA. EFA revealed a six-factor solution, encompassing 18 out of the 30 items, to be the most theoretically meaningful factor structure. This six-factor model was affirmed by a CFA (CFI = 0.94, TLI = 0.92, RMSEA = 0.036). These factors were, namely, ‘the image of psychiatrists’, ‘psychiatric patients and mental illness’, ‘efficacy of treatment’, ‘psychiatric teaching’, ‘career choice’, and ‘psychiatry as an evidence-based discipline’. This six-factor solution was invariant across gender. ‘The image of psychiatrists’ appeared to be the most salient factor, and formed the most consistent subscale (ω = 0.71). The internal consistencies of the other subscales were modest (ω = 0.55–0.67). The overall 18-item scale showed good internal consistency (ω = 0.78).ConclusionOur findings provide evidence of a multi-dimensional structure in medical students’ attitudes towards psychiatry, endorsing six meaningful subscales of the ATP-30. Future researchers and educators can utilize these subscales in identifying specific attitudinal domains which are more closely associated with students’ future choice of a career in psychiatry, and also in identifying specific areas where attitudes are more stigmatized, so that appropriate interventions can be incorporated into the undergraduate psychiatric curriculum.

Abstract:
The paper is devoted to finding a convenient argument for the one-factor production function of a mine. For construction of one-factor production functions it is offered to use composite goods (compositum mixtum), the value of which corresponds to the amount of costs, incurred by an enterprise during a year-long period of time. Taking into account peculiarities of coal mines, the study verifies an expedience of converting the composite good to the coal equivalent (conventional fuel), consumed by an enterprise in a technological process, Big Mac burgers, and the stuff number. An attempt to use coal to build the production function of a mine as a composite good was not entirely successful. An experimental study of the dependence of coal production from actual costs of coal resources, carried out on a mathematical model of a mine, proved the inexpediency of such formalization, particularly due to the strong influence of non-mine (external) factors. Statistically significant, for example, were the efficiency of fuel use in power plants and the norm of coal for household needs. The relevance and popularity of the ‘sandwich index’ is due to the fact that McDonald's is in most countries, and Big Mac itself contains so many food ingredients (bread, cheese, meat and vegetables) that can act as a kind of mold of the national economy. But the conducted research demonstrated that such a way of expressing the composite good for Ukrainian mines is not rational due to macroeconomic interventions (permanent increase of the minimum wage) in the microeconomics of an enterprise. The most appropriate argument for the production function of the mine is the stuff number of an enterprise. The rationality of Big Mac as the basis of the production function is demonstrated in the construction of the production function of world export coal markets.

Abstract:
Background/Objective: Clinical nurse educators globally have recognized the prominent necessity of evaluating for death anxiety in students, and adopting curriculum that provides education about death and dying. Reliable assessment tools are needed to evaluate death anxiety in the student population. The study evaluates the hierarchical factor structure of the Persian-translated Templer’s Death Anxiety Scale (TDAS) in nursing students from Iran. Methods: A repeated measures standard psychometric analysis was conducted. In total 400 undergraduate and graduate nursing students from a major university campus in Sari, Iran finished the Persian translated 15-item TDAS. Construct validity was assessed. Reliability was tested using Cronbach’s Alpha (α), Theta (θ), and McDonald’s Omega (Ω) coefficients. Results: Exploratory factor analysis (N = 200) indicated the TDAS had two factors (Fear of loss of life; Fear to face death). Model fitness indicators confirmed two independent TDAS structure levels. The Cronbach’s alpha, Theta, McDonald, and construct reliability were larger than .70.Conclusions: Study outcomes corroborated acceptable psychometric properties and factor structure for the TDAS in a sample of Iranian nursing students. Findings suggest that the scale can be utilized for reliable and valid educational evaluation of death anxiety in Iranian nursing students.

Abstract:
The factors that influence food choices nowadays are time, cost and deliciousness. An obvious example is fast food. Although consumers are aware that fast food is not a healthy choice, many still chooses fast food because it is convenient. Therefore in this paper, by using linear programming, we analyzed McDonald’s Malaysia menu in order to find the cheapest menu and the ‘healthiest’ menu. We developed a linear programming model for McDonald’s Malaysia menu which adheres to Malaysia Recommended Nutrient Intake 2017 (RNI 2017). Then we solved the model and proposed the cheapest menu and also the ‘healthiest’ menu that meets the nutrient requirement based on RNI 2017. The result showed that price for the cheapest palatable menu is RM21.69 a day. For set menu, we found that no menu meets this requirement, suggesting that McDonald’s set menu should not be taken three times a day. The price for the ‘healthiest’ McDonald’s menu with the least total of fat, sugar and salt that meets the nutrient requirement is RM42.99 a day.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Social Competence and Behaviour Evaluation (SCBE-30) is a 3-factor (Externalizing, Internalizing and Social Competence) 30-item questionnaire that examines Preschoolers (Kindergarten and Nursery). The main goal of this study is the validation and adaptation of the scale in Nigeria. 400 pre-schoolers in Ile-Oluji, Ondo State, Nigeria are involved in the study while 364 children whose Parental Consent Form was obtained are the final participants. McDonald’s ωt (McDonald, 1999) measure of reliability using the psych package from CRAN (Revelle, 2008) was used to verify the internal consistency of the scale. The original subscale with 10 items of the novel SCBE-30 version is not confirmed by the confirmatory factor analysis. Seven items showed significant contribution to both SC and AW while all 10 items of the AA subscale have significant loadings. However, only 4 items for the SC scale showed factor loading of above 0.40, 3 for AW and 6 for AA. Exploratory factor analysis showed that boys are more aggressive than girls while girls exhibit more social competence and internalizing behaviour. The social competence scale is found to be significantly different from other factors while both Anger-Aggression and Anxiety-Withdrawal showed no difference. All inter-factor correlations agreed with the literature. Five models are compared using various modifications and the final accepted model have Chi-Square = 261.316; GFI = 0.946, CFI = 0.953, RMSEA = 0.027 and SRMR = 0.047. The new 24-item scale for the Nigerian sample shows good psychometric characteristics and meets validation criteria as reported by researchers where the scale had been earlier validated.

Abstract:
A new six-parameter extended fatigue lifetime model named the McDonald-Burr XII distribution is introduced, which generalizes the Burr XII, beta Burr XII (Parana\'iba {\it et al.}, 2011) and Kumaraswamy-Burr XII (Parana\'iba {\it et al.}, 2012) distributions. The proposed distribution is characterized in terms of truncated moments. We obtain the ordinary and incomplete moments and quantile and ge\-ne\-ra\-ting functions. We estimate the model parameters by maximum likelihood. A Monte Carlo simulation is performed to study the asymptotic normality of the estimates. We also propose an extended regression model based on the logarithm of the McDonald-Burr XII distribution that can be more realistic in the analysis of real data than other special regression models. Two applications to real data validate the importance of the new models.

“The Miracle of the Golden Arches: Race and Fast Food in Los Angeles” examines the Los Angeles chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) and its advocacy on behalf of the city’s black McDonald’s franchisees. The franchisees believed that McDonald’s limited their ability to franchise restaurants outside of predominately black neighborhoods. Analyzing the rhetoric surrounding these disputes, the article argues that despite their economic prosperity as a group, African American McDonald’s franchisees often found themselves in an uneasy position as models of racial progress and victims of racial discrimination. The article covers the period between two urban uprisings—the aftermath of Martin Luther King’s assassination in 1968 and the days after police officers were acquitted of beating Rodney King in 1992—to expose the relationship between McDonald’s and black consumers in moments of economic, social, and racial crisis.

AbstractObjective:To compare the sugar content of items at four multinational fast-food chains, across three countries.Design:Total sugar (g)/per serving was extracted from online nutrition information, and sugar/100 g serving was calculated. Foods were categorised as: breakfast sandwiches, burgers, sandwiches, desserts and condiments. Beverages were categorised as fountain, frozen or pre-packaged. Sugar (g) was compared across countries using linear mixed-effects models. Pairwise comparisons were performed with Tukey–Kramer adjustments.Setting:USA, Germany and Australia.Participants:Burger King™ (Hungry Jack’s™), Kentucky Fried Chicken™, McDonald’s™ and Subway™.Results:Differences in total sugar/100 g or ml were observed across countries for burgers (n 104), desserts (n 110), sandwiches (n 178), pre-packaged beverages (n 36) and frozen beverages (n 72). Comparing identical items across countries (e.g. BigMacTM from McDonalds in USA, Germany and Australia), burgers (n 10 available in all three countries) had lower sugar content in Australia (3·4 g/100 g) compared with the USA (4·7 g/100 g, P = 0·02) or Germany (4·6 g/100 g, P = 0·04), yet no differences were observed in other food categories. Comparing the same beverages across countries (e.g. chocolate shake from Burger King), frozen beverages (n 4 available in all three countries) had lower sugar content in Australia (14·2 g/100 ml), compared with the USA (20·3 g/100 ml, P = 0·0005) or Germany (17·8 g/100 ml, P = 0·0148), yet no differences were observed in other beverage categories. Conclusions:Heterogeneity in fast-food sugar content across countries suggests that reductions are possible and should be implemented to reduce health risks associated with excess added sugar intake.

Abstract:
In situ procedure is a direct method of measuring the rumen degradation kinetic of a feed nutrient. Data obtained by this technique are generally analysed using an exponential curve (Ørskov and McDonald, 1979). However, very low attention has been paid to choice of mathematical model to fit the curves and goodness-of-fit of the model. Lopez et al. (1999) pointed out that the disappearance of some feed components, particularly structural carbohydrates, exhibits a larger variety of forms than for crude protein (CP). In the present study, two different mathematical models of a straight line or a negative exponential (France et al., 1990; and Ørskov and McDonald, 1979) were selected to evaluate in situ degradation kinetics of protein fractions including true protein (TP), neutral-detergent insoluble protein (NDIP) and acid-detergent insoluble protein (ADIP) of various oilseed meals (cottonseed meal (CSM), soyabean meal (SM) and rapeseed meal (RM)).

Wiedza stanowi bowiem swoistą „dźwignię” rozwoju organizacji i źródło jej szeroko rozumianego potencjału. Działając w skali globalnej i stosując strategię dywersyfikacji poziomej, odnotowuje ona szereg zróżnicowanych czynników, jakie determinują jej funkcjonowanie. Można przyjąć nawet, że McDonald’s działa w swoistej „sieci” czynników ryzyka (tj. czynników szans/korzyści i czynników zagrożeń/strat). Firma ta wykorzystuje kryterium ryzyka do kreowania swojego potencjału, stosując m.in. zintegrowane podejście do zarządzania ryzykiem (bazujące na podejściu systemowym) oraz strategię ekspansji międzynarodowej, tj. uwzględniając zróżnicowanie poszczególnych rynków (a więc i czynników ryzyka) i dostosowując się do ich potrzeb, wymagań i możliwości – co z kolei jest przejawem elastyczności i adaptacyjności.

Abstract:
Abstract. This investigation provides evidence of the structural validity related to scores from the Online Self-Assessment (OSA) Figures scale. This scale was constructed for the assessment of figural reasoning as part of an online self-assessment battery. Since the appropriateness of confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) of data obtained by dichotomous items has been questioned, two suitable methods including different link transformations were considered: (1) confirmatory factor analysis including the congeneric model of measurement with tetrachoric correlations as input and (2) confirmatory factor analysis according to the weighted congeneric model with probability-based covariances as input. The models tested a unidimensional structure for the scale. Support for structural validity was identified through acceptable model-data fit indices and convergence of the parameter estimates across analysis methods. Furthermore, the OSA Figures scale showed an acceptable degree of homogeneity according to McDonald’s Omega and substantial correlation with course scores.

Abstract:
This study aimed to evaluate the adequacy of seven non-linear models (France, Orskov and McDonald, Gompertz, exponential, logistic, two-pool exponential and two-pool logistic) in the adjustment of the curve and in the generation of parameters of cumulative gas production from five tropical feedstuffs (rice hulls, sugarcane, cassava chips, turnip by-product, and peach-palm by-product) used in ruminant nutrition. To this end, the feedstuffs were incubated in vitro in graduated glass syringes together with a buffer inoculum solution, in triplicate. Gas production was read at 0, 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 24, 26, 28, 30, 32, 36, 48, 52, 54, 56, 60 and 72 h of incubation. The data were used to generate the parameters of each model using the SAS statistical package. After the parameters were generated, the gas volume values were obtained at the aforementioned times, for each model, and these were compared with the values observed at incubation by using Model Evaluation System (MES) software. For the comparison, regression parameters were tested using Mayer’s test, in addition to the evaluation of the mean bias (MS), concordance correlation coefficient (CCC), and mean squared prediction error (MSPE). The France, Logistic, and Gompertz models, for rice hulls, and the Orskov and McDonald model, for cassava chips, were significant (P < 0.1) according to Mayer’s test, indicating lack of fit of the model. Besides presenting the lowest MSPE, the models that showed fit according to Mayer’s test were the two-pool logistic for rice hulls and cassava chips, and the two-pool exponential for sugarcane, turnip, and peach palm. Thus, the non-linear two-pool models are the most efficient in adjusting to the curve and in the generation of parameters of cumulative production of gases from the tested feedstuffs.

Abstract:
For bounded unit interval, we propose a new Kumaraswamy generalized (G) family of distributions through a new generator which could be an alternate to the Kumaraswamy-G family proposed earlier by Cordeiro and de Castro in 2011. This new generator can also be used to develop alternate G-classes such as beta-G, McDonald-G, Topp-Leone-G, Marshall-Olkin-G, and Transmuted-G for bounded unit interval. Some mathematical properties of this new family are obtained and maximum likelihood method is used for the estimation of G-family parameters. We investigate the properties of one special model called the new Kumaraswamy-Weibull (NKwW) distribution. Parameters of NKwW model are estimated by using maximum likelihood method, and the performance of these estimators are assessed through simulation study. Two real life data sets are analyzed to illustrate the importance and flexibility of the proposed model. In fact, this model outperforms some generalized Weibull models such as the Kumaraswamy-Weibull, McDonald-Weibull, beta-Weibull, exponentiated-generalized Weibull, gamma-Weibull, odd log-logistic-Weibull, Marshall-Olkin-Weibull, transmuted-Weibull and exponentiated-Weibull distributions when applied to these data sets. The bivariate extension of the family is also proposed, and the estimation of parameters is dealt. The usefulness of the bivariate NKwW model is illustrated empirically by means of a real-life data set.

Abstract:
Abstract The main purpose of this paper is to find a structure of consumer behaviour, especially regarding the preference for the newly-released products from the market. We intend to study the impact of the new, innovative products compared to the traditional ones. Empirical research is based on the selling mix of a company in Romania and Austria. The analysis of this case will be done with the support of an econometric model of simple regression. This research confirms the validation of the structure and the attitude of the consumers towards the new products, launched by that company. By applying this linear model, it is possible to identify the percentage of the increase or decrease in consumption of new products. The need of carrying out this study regarding the impact of the consumption of new products is to create a profile and to find the causes that influence their acquisition. The originality of this paper lays in studying some aspects of influence over the consumption of new products from McDonald’s in Romania and Austria. Where does McDonald’s stand regarding the digitalization? It is not enough to sell new products; it is also necessary to bring innovation in the organization. Nowadays consumers are more present in the online environment and retailers are adapting at a fast pace to their needs of direct communication and transparency. How does a company that faces Slow Food and Bio era, deal with consumers who are more preoccupied with the nutritive values of the nourishment act? Platforms for real-time communication with clients such as “Our food. Your question” redefined the term of transparency and helped McDonald’s stop bad rumors. The results of the research will show us if there really is transformation in behaviour towards traditional products and in what degree consumers are influenced by innovation.

Objective: To prepare and validate a scale for assessing care needs in dependent people, based on all fourteen needs included in Virginia Henderson’s theory and Maslow’s Theory of Human Needs. Materials and methods: An observational study was conducted to validate a scale with a sample of 776 care-dependent individuals. Nursing professionals were in charge of writing the items. Correlations between items and factor structure were evaluated using a structural equation model. Reliability was assessed through Cronbach’s alpha and McDonald’s omega. Results: The correlations between all fourteen needs were satisfactory. The structure with three dimensions (physiological needs, need for safety and belonging, and need for independence) was satisfactory: CFI = 0.95, TLI = 0.94, SRMR = 0.04, and RMSEA = 0.06 (95 % CI: 0.05-0.07). The scale’s reliability was satisfactory, with Cronbach’s alpha = 0.870 and McDonald’s omega = 0.871. Conclusions: This scale allows obtaining a classification score to determine the nursing assistance needs of dependent people. It contributes to the standardization and use of the theories about care and human needs.

Abstract In this exploratory mixed-methods sequential design study, interviews with 125 adults aged 55-92 (mean age 71) living in the Minneapolis (Minnesota) metropolitan area suggest that large-chain fast-food restaurants such as McDonald’s may serve as reservoirs of cognitive function. Thematic analysis revealed perceived benefits of fast-food settings for older adults including familiarity and comfort; affordability; sociability with friends, family, staff, and customers; and entertainment (e.g., newspapers, crosswords). To further test these observations, we analyzed data from urban and suburban REGARDS participants. Preliminary multilevel regression models found that participants residing within 5 kilometers of a McDonald’s restaurant exhibited higher cognitive function than similar individuals who live further from said organizations (b=0.31; se=0.12). The results complicate understanding of fast-food settings and prompt further research that tests whether restaurants can serve as community spaces for older adults to help buffer against cognitive decline by fostering social interaction and mental stimulation.

Abstract:
Background/Objective The purpose of this study was to cross-culturally adapt the Body Perception Questionnaire Short Form (BPQ-SF) into Italian and to assess its psychometric properties in a sample of Italian subjects. Methods A forward-backward method was used for translation. 493 adults were recruited for psychometric analysis. Structural validity was assessed with confirmatory factor analysis and a hypothesis testing approach. Internal consistency was assessed by Cronbach’s alpha and McDonald’s omega. Measurement invariance analysis was applied with an age-matched American sample. Results The single-factor structure fit the awareness subscale (RMSEA = .036, CFI = .983, TLI = .982). Autonomic reactivity (ANSR) was well-described by supra- and sub-diaphragmatic subscales (RMSEA = .041, CFI = .984, TLI = .982). All subscales were positively correlated (r range: .50-.56) and had good internal consistency (McDonald’s Omega range: .86-.92, Cronbach’s alpha range: .88-.91). Measurement invariance analysis for the Awareness model showed significant results (p<0.001) in each step (weak, strong and strict) whereas the ANSR showed significant results (p<0.001) only for the strong and strict steps. Conclusions Our results support the Italian version of the BPQ as having consistent psychometric properties in comparison with other languages.

Abstract:
How is it that serious games are actually persuasive? Ian Bogost’s work on serious (or persuasive) games provides essential philosophical foundations for the genre though, as the article demonstrates, sufficient detail of argument is lacking. Bogost uses the model of classical rhetoric to demonstrate that games can make arguments through “procedural rhetoric,” which he exemplifies with games like Molleindustria’s McDonald’s Videogame, a title that can best be identified as parody. However, such games, while attempting to make persuasive arguments, lack classical requisites for persuasion, leaving room for further critical inquiry and development of understanding of how serious games work. To be considered persuasive, serious games should additionally demonstrate the components of ethos, which include: phronesis (practical knowledge, factual basis), arête (integrity, virtue), and eunoia (goodwill, concern for the hearer). It is insufficient for serious games to have procedural rhetoric without taking account of procedural ethos. Analyses of the McDonald’s game and the ReDistricting Game are conducted for an initial verification of this proposal. This description of how serious games can be persuasive can provide additional conceptual tools to game developers, instructional designers, and educational scholars attempting to leverage serious games for intentional, productive, and predictable learning.

Abstract:
Background: Mental health literacy is a determinant of mental health, which can facilitate early detection of psychological problems and endorse timely access to care. Instruments to measure mental health literacy exist, but not in French. Assessment of mental health literacy in young adults is essential to tailor appropriate educational interventions promoting psychological wellbeing and preventing mental health problems in this vulnerable population. The aim of this study was to validate the French version of the Mental Health Literacy Scale (MHLS-FR) in university students. Methods: A total of 482 students from the University of Bordeaux, France, completed the translated version of the scale. Collected data were used to validate the MHLS-FR through psychometric analyses: descriptive statistics, item distribution, test-retest reliability, exploratory structural equation model, confirmatory factor analysis, Cronbach’s alpha and McDonald’s omega coefficients, and hypothesis testing. Results: The final scale included 26 items covering 6 dimensions. Cronbach’s alpha and McDonald’s omega coefficients were 0.744 and 0.961, respectively. With test-retest, about 50% of items had intraclass correlation coefficients superior to 0.5. Conclusions: The MHLS-FR can be considered as a valid and reliable instrument for measuring mental health literacy in French students.

Abstract:
We conducted a psychometric evaluation of a modified Technology Acceptance Model, specifically designed to assess consumer’s acceptance of autonomous vehicles. Autonomous vehicles must be adopted by society to minimize accidents and fatalities. Technology Acceptance has been defined as the antecedents to use of technology. Firstly, we evaluated the relationship among indicator items using a polychoric correlations. Next, we conducted a confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) and reliability analysis to evaluate internal factor structure and consistency. Results indicate that the model had mixed global fit indices, indicating a potential need for an overhaul of the survey. The point estimate of McDonald’s ω improved if the fourth trust item were removed. Recommendations are made about the next steps for the TAM, such as generating a new item pool for Social Influence and Behavioral Intention to Use so that the latent factors may be properly identified in Factor Analysis. Additionally, Perceived Trust and Perceived Usefulness may benefit from a new pool of indicator items as well.

"Validation of the Pyruvate Kinase Deficiency Diary (PKDD): A Patient-Reported Outcome Measure for Pyruvate Kinase (PK) Deficiency." Abstract:
Abstract Introduction: Pyruvate kinase (PK) deficiency is a rare hereditary disorder characterized by chronic hemolytic anemia and long-term complications such as iron overload, osteoporosis, and pulmonary hypertension. There are no patient-reported outcome (PRO) instruments that are specific for this condition. The PK Deficiency Diary (PKDD), a disease-specific PRO, was designed as an evening diary to assess signs and symptoms for patients with PK deficiency. The seven-item instrument assesses tiredness, jaundice, bone pain, shortness of breath, and energy levels. Six of the seven items employ a numeric rating scale (NRS) ranging from 0-10 and one item uses a 5-point verbal descriptor scale. The instrument underwent psychometric validation using blinded data from the eighty patients participating in the ACTIVATE trial, a randomized, multicenter, double-blind, phase 3 trial of mitapivat, an allosteric activator of PK, in non-regularly transfused adults with PK deficiency (NCT03548220). Methods: Completion rates and baseline response distributions were characterized using descriptive statistics. Inter-item correlations were estimated and item response theory (IRT) modeling was applied. A scoring system was established with item weighting informed by IRT modeling. The resultant baseline scores were used to assess reliability (internal consistency and test-retest) and validity (convergent and known-groups). Change scores for group comparisons were evaluated via anchor-based methods using the Patient Global Impression of Severity (PGIS) changes from baseline to weeks 12 and 24. The PGIS had a 5-point verbal descriptor scale (Not at all, A little, Moderately, A lot, and Very much). Results: Baseline PKDD data were available for 77 patients (96% completion rate). Response distributions skewed right with sparse endorsements at the higher levels, especially for the NRS-rated items. To facilitate IRT modeling, responses were recoded to a 0-4 scale. The IRT model for the baseline item responses resulted in adequate fit [Root Mean Squared Error of Approximation (RMSEA) 0.09, 95% CI = (<0.01, 0.132)]. Daily sum scores were first calculated and then converted to T-scores (mean of 50 and standard deviation of 10) employing a scoring conversion (Table). The conversion of sum scores to T-scores is based on the expected a-priori scores (Z) from the IRT model. A higher score represents more severe symptomatology and higher disease burden. Internal consistency was assessed with McDonald's coefficient, ω = 0.86, indicating a high level of reliability. Test-retest reliability via a two-way mixed effects Intra-Class Correlation Coefficient (ICC) was also high (0.94). Convergent validity was established when correlating PKDD scores with the FACT-An (|r| = 0.73), the SF-12 PCS (|r| = 0.54), and the SF-12 MCS (|r| = 0.30). Known-groups validity was moderate with mean scores ordering approximately as expected across baseline PGIS ratings and a linear trend (η 2 = 0.27). Changes in scores from baseline to weeks 12 and 24 were assessed by stratifying PKDD scores by changes in PGIS (no change as the reference group). By comparing patients who reported a 2-point worsening in severity to those who reported no change on the PGIS, estimates of a change in PKDD scores at weeks 12 and 24 ranged from 3.0 to 13.9 points. Per anchor-based methods, a change of approximately 5 to 8 points could be considered a meaningful change in PKDD score. Conclusions: The PKDD is now the first validated disease-specific PRO to assess signs and symptoms in patients with PK deficiency. The PKDD showed high internal consistency, test-retest reliability, and convergent validity. Further research investigating meaningful change scores would be beneficial. Due to the rare nature of PK deficiency, the ACTIVATE study enrolled a small number of patients overall, which was a limitation in the anchor-based determination of meaningful change. Thus, the recommended estimates of meaningful change, although interpretable for the current study, are not definitive and could benefit from further investigation. Figure 1 Figure 1. Abstract:
Background: Our research reveals factor measures, which are generated to encourage economics students to engage in scientific publication and research processes. Research purposes: Availability of motivational models for scientific publications, as a form of developing economics students in the future. Research methods: Estimation using Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) approach, with statistical tools Jeffreys's Amazing Statistics Program (JASP) version 0.16.0.0. Research results: This study shows the accuracy of the model, including the calculated value of McDonald's and Cronbach's > 0.700, for the MSA value of 0.762, and the value of Bartlett's test < .001. For the correlation relationship, it is strengthened by the RMSEA number which is between 0.05-0.08. This study forms a 3 factor model for scientific publications of economics students. Conclusion: This study estimates the factors that can encourage the scientific publication model of economics students. Several factors in this research model are in line with the findings of previous researchers. This study shows that the accuracy of the model includes the McDonald's and Cronbach's > 0.700, for the MSA value of 0.762, and the Bartlett's test value < .001. For the correlation relationship, it is strengthened by the RMSEA number which is between 0.05-0.08. Thus, there are 3 factors in this model, namely the role of lecturers and families, students' basic abilities, and academic achievement goals. We realize that there are several theoretical challenges and measurement models, therefore further research is carried out using statistical test instruments and tools such as AMOS, PLS, and LISREL.
