Mania, Foteini. "Contextualizing Atrocity : The Ottoman Greeks' Suffering through the Athenian Newspapers Estia and Empros, May 1919-December 1922." Thesis, Uppsala universitet, Historiska institutionen, 2020. http://urn.kb.se/resolve?urn=urn:nbn:se:uu:diva-411093.

Abstract:
The present thesis offers an innovative perspective analysing the perception of Turkish atrocities against the Ottoman Greek communities during the temporal period May 1919-December 1922 through the Athenian newspapers Estia and Empros, which were committed to the ubiquitous Greek irredentist vision of the Megali Idea. Delving into theories which emphasize on the political nature of nationalism, on national mobilisation and on the exploitation of mass communication by the elite, this thesis attempts to elaborate on the inclusion of the Ottoman Greeks into an expanded Greek nation-state, based on the principle of self-determination. Hence, from the Greek Press' perspective, the presented Turkish atrocities against a part of the Greek nation and potential subjects of a broadened Greek state had been contextualized on the basis of Greek nationalism. The study shows that, despite the widespread and divided Greek communities in the Ottoman Empire/Turkey, Estia and Empros were declaring that their common denominator had been their Greek self-determination and the fact that all these communities were viewing the Greek state and the Greek army as their guarantors for their safety. Adding to the agents of Hellenism also the Ecumenical Patriarchate, Estia and Empros were highlighting the crucial role of these agents towards the endangered Ottoman Greek communities. Thus, the presentation of the respective information in the newspapers was leaning on this theoretical schema.

Abstract:
This study is intended to illustrate how the reformist and revolutionary directions in the labor movement are manifested and visualized in the empirical material with regard to angry culture, thus contributing to an understanding of the informative importance of the image. It is clear that the investigated material in the form of social democratic and communist 1 May posters from the period 1922-1948 reflects its time (the interwar period to the post-war era) with regard to angry culture.  It is not the aesthetic aspect that is central, but the historical and political perspective in terms of information transmission. This study focuses on how to understand a historical period through an image material. The study aims to answer the question of what kind of information is communicated built on an analysis based on a combination of semiotics and hegemony analysis of the empirical material. Using the semiotic concepts denotation and connotation, the posters are analyzed in detail in the image analysis in combination with Stuart Hall's three hypothetical positions (codes), Antonio Gramsci’s hegemony concept, primarily in the form of “war of position” and “historic blocs”, is used to understand the historical period investigated. This method triangulation increases the credibility of the results. As far as the study and its results are concerned, it can be noted that the social democratic 1 May posters before 1936 (Social Democrats’ power access) with regard to “sublimed wrath” mainly represent consensus across class boundaries. The communist 1 May posters from that period, however, primarily represent “class war” and stand for “open anger”. After the Social Democrats’ access to power, it is clear that they constitute a historic bloc and that the communists are forced to adopt a more defensive approach, pronounced in drained paroles with a vague content. The conclusion with regard to the visual transmission of political and historical information and messages regarding social democratic and communistic 1 May posters from 1922-1948, based on socialist angry cultures is that the period between the wars was characterized by class struggle versus consensus, World War ll reduced everything to “hold together” and post-war time represents the starting point for the welfare state, as a successful consequence of the social democratic “dignity project”.

Chung, Hilary. "The portrayal of women in Mao Dun's early fiction 1927-1932." Thesis, Durham University, 1991. http://etheses.dur.ac.uk/6244/.

Full text
Abstract:
It is the prevailing critical assessment of Mao Dun's early creative writing that he displays a singular insight in his portrayal of women. This thesis seeks not only to challenge this assessment by a predominantly male body of criticism but also the assumptions on which it is based, namely that an intellectual sympathy for the women’s cause necessarily implies a transcendence of the patriarchal attitudes with which society is imbued. The major short stories and novellas written between 1927 and 1932 are analysed systematically to identify Mao Dun's underlying attitudes towards women. His portrayal of women is assessed from the following perspectives:~ his autobiographical accounts of his encounters with women in his political and personal life and his deliberate association of his female comrades with his creative inspiration;- traditional Chinese perceptions of women and gender roles as these are manifested in the classical tradition;-- Mao Dun's numerous articles and essays on the women's question written during the nineteen twenties and his work in the women's section of the Party in Shanghai;- Mao Dun's attempt to reconcile his conflicting sympathies for feminism and socialism. This thesis relies for its methodology on Western feminist criticism. While the approach is maintained, in its application to the context of early twentieth century China, its eurocentrism in terms of cultural assumptions and perceptions of gender has been replaced by a definition of Chinese values. Since a fundamental prerequisite, of feminist criticism is the assessment of the writer in his/her own cultural context, a historical survey of the portrayal of women in traditional literature is provided to serve as a standard against which to measure Mao Dun’s portrayal.

Today we can realize the importance of the period between the two world wars, with the arrival - mainly in france, great britain and the united states - of the jews who have animated the german cinema. The contribution of these exiles to the cinema of the countries of refuge was decisive, aesthetically and economically. The career of max ophuls, an outstanding example, raises the question of the relations between the french cinema and the german cinema. The idea of a syncretism - utopian or real - of cultural elements of various ofigine led ophuls to look for the ways of establishing the bases of a new cultural space in europe. Studying the interactions which characterize the condition of the artist living at the junction of several cultures, we bring together the three levels of apprehension of the history of art - the art of the cinema : the economic reality of production; the socio-cultural impact, which restitutes to the work its environment and its reception; finally, the elaboration of ideas and forms, in order to restitute the stream of consciousness of a film- maker at work. Our approach is chronological : from march 1933 - when ophuls had to leave germany - to july 1941 - when he had to leave the european continent, to take refuge in the united states. After a first

Abstract:

Abstract:
This study is centered on the social question as addressed and defined by Ernst Troeltsch (1865--1923) and by Max Weber (1864--1920); it pertains mainly to the rise of religious modernity and its conditions of possibility; based on a comparative analysis of the socio1ogy of religion of Troeltsch and Weber, it deals with the question how religious modernity has to be thought from a sociological perspective.
Along with modern historical science and scientific rationality in general, the social question challenged religion in the nineteenth century; this study brings out the originality of Troeltsch's vision of a modernity compatible with belief in the future of religion.
Motivated by the debate on the social question, Troeltsch's concern was the social foundations of the Christian doctrine in its relation to secular domains of activity, and this calls for a new outlook on the issue of the relation between religion and culture.
Eventually, the comparative approach of the sociological thought of Weber and Troeltsch pursued in the present work, while providing new insight into Weber's views on religion, brings about a better understanding of Troeltsch as a theologian and a philosopher of religion.

Full text
Abstract:
In the works of Weber, Freud, and Foucault we find a distinct depiction of the relation between the self and modern civilization. This thesis describes that relation as "entrapment": the self has become mired in the life orders of modernity and is unable to reign over them. The primary hazard of these orders is their imposition of subjectivities that are highly circumscribed, subjectivities more responsive to external functions and imperatives than to the expression of individuality. Underlying this outlook is a new consciousness of time; in lieu of evolutionary and progressive theories of history, a tragic view emerges. History is seen as devoid of any deterministic necessity, yet its collective products have become too weighty and entrenched to allow for radical, over-arching political transformations. The thesis examines how, beginning with these shared presuppositions, Weber, Freud, and Foucault develop very different understandings of entrapment, understandings that pose fundamental challenges to one another.

Full text
Abstract:
The economic analysis of happiness is the theme of this historical research in the field of economic thought. The aim is to find the practical legacy attached to the question of human happiness in the economic thought. This analysis is made within the German tradition. The works of Carl Menger and Max Weber are replaced in this tradition, contrary to the way they are traditionally viewed, a neoclassical one for Menger and a sociological one for Weber. The pattern of their economic thought hinges on a non-mathematical pure theory grasping the origin, function and essence of economic phenomena and on a history of the transformation of the forms of economic life. Unlike the quantitative theory of well being centred on the production, the economic analysis of human happiness is centred on the act of consumption whose fundamental character is emphasized. It is thus the action of consumption in institutions that highlights the possibility of economic happiness

Lambret, Marc. Paris 4, 1997. http://www.theses.fr/1997PA040137.

Full text
Abstract:
In his "discussion ethics", Jorgen Habermas stands to-day as reference for those who wish to put the base of a secular and united moral doctrine. The idea of a "new polytheism" of values, as it was expressed by Max Weber, in his days, seems to be directly opposed to this project. Nevertheless, it's in Weber that Habermas has found the brainwave to take the western modernization as a display of reason possibilities, for he is particularly competent at solving moral problems. But the precise analysis of Habermas' text proves that the idea of practical-moral rationability is unproductive. Weber helps mostly to understand in modernity without religion the paradox of unreasonable rationalism. The concept of modernity as a stage of a rational surpass of religion comes from the faith in Jesus Christ, this is fulfilled in a true, solid, religion. Without believing in Christ, this concept has neither base nor prospect. The idea that people can and must communicate in order to reach a reasonable agreement on moral questions is in the air, though not specifically modern. On the whole it's an elementary religious view point

Abstract:

HF surface current radar (CODAR) data from two shore-based radar sites were collected and combined to form vector estimates of the near-surface currents in Monterey Bay from March to May 1992. CODAR-derived currents are measures of the flow in the upper 1 m of the water column. The springtime mean flow pattern in the Bay and it's variability based on a maximum of 760 three-hourly observations at a nominal 2 km spatial resolution are presented. Results for each month and the canonical day are also shown. The mean patterns show strong southward flowing onshore currents (=20 cm.s(-1)) in the outer bay and near zero mean flow nearshore and northwest of Moss Landing. The variability is, however, large with standard deviations typically twice the mean. The canonical day shows strong (=4- cm.s(-1)) onshore flow over the entire Bay in the late nighttime period. These flow patterns combine to produce the observed mean flow. CODAR data show energy at a semi-diurnal tidal periods (12.3 and 11.9 hours), diurnal period (24 hours) and a longer period (17 days). CODAR data is compared to data from a moored buoy. Low-passed time series are well correlated. Unfiltered time series have higher correlations at diurnal and semidiurnal tidal frequencies. CODAR-derived surface currents and the winds are highly correlated at Near-diurnal frequencies corresponding to the daily sea breeze forcing.

Abstract:
Artistic avant-gardes of the first part of the 20th century had started to bring closer, and for some of them to collaborate to the contemporary political movements, but the situationist movement (which begun in 1952 with the foundation of the Lettrist International, and ended in 1972 with the auto-dissolution of the Situationist International) was characterized by the complete fusion between art and politics. From this viewpoint, our work demonstrates how spectacle, which was initially used by situationists to designate the artistic representation and the passive and compensatory contemplation that accompanies it, proved to be for them the paradigmatic experience of the modern man faced with the products of his activity in the capitalist society. We also demonstrate how dérive and psychogeography, which were initially thought in the context of the supersession of art, were used by situationists as means to protest against the established order, making a critique of everyday life, and to imagine another form of society. Finally, we show how this vision of another society was divided between a futuristic utopia based on the technological development and a revolutionary romanticism inspired by the examples of the nomadic peoples and the medieval societies

Abstract:

This work deals with the emblemtic life of the Spanish author Max Aub (Paris 1903-Mexico 1972) whose destiny and writing where greatly influence by the two world wars. . . The first part of this thesis goes through the French side of Aub's boigraphy. . . In the second part, we analyse how Max Aub's work was turned out of his course by exil, and how he was split between a will to testify and a need to create. . . The last part of this thesis reveals that Aub's multiple identity, forged by the contradictions between fiction stories and living History. .

Johnson, Cory. "Suggestions for Deontic Logicians." Thesis, Virginia Tech, 2013. http://hdl.handle.net/10919/19221.

Full text
Abstract:
The purpose of this paper is to make a suggestion to deontic logic: Respect Hume\'s Law, the answer to the is-ought problem that says that all ought-talk is completely cut off from is-talk. Most deontic logicians have sought another solution: Namely, the solution that says that we can bridge the is-ought gap. Thus, a century\'s worth of research into these normative systems of logic has lead to many attempts at doing just that. At the same time, the field of deontic logic has come to be plagued with paradox. My argument essentially depends upon there being a substantive relation between this betrayal of Hume and the plethora of paradoxes that have appeared in two-adic (binary normative operator), one-adic (unary normative operator), and zero-adic (constant normative operator) deontic systems, expressed in the traditions of von Wright, Kripke, and Anderson, respectively. My suggestion has two motivations: First, to rid the philosophical literature of its puzzles and second, to give Hume\'s Law a proper formalization. Exploring the issues related to this project also points to the idea that maybe we should re-engineer (e.g., further generalize) our classical calculus, which might involve the adoption of many-valued logics somewhere down the line.

Abstract:
Through an exploration of both sculptural and thought processes undertaken in making my Masters exhibition, ‘Hippocampus’, I unpack some possibilities, instabilities, and limitations inherent in representation and visual perception. This thesis explores the Hippocampus as image (seahorse) and concept (brain-structure involved in cognitive mapping of space). Looking at Gilles Deleuze’s writings on representation, I will expand on the notion of the map as being that which does not define and fix a structure or meaning, but rather is open, extendable and experimental. I explore the becoming, rather than the being, of image and concept. The emphasis here is on process, non-representation, and fluidity of meaning. This is supportive of my personal affirmation of the practice and process of art-making as research. I will refer to the graphic prints of Maurits Cornelis Escher as a means to elucidate a visual contextualization of my practical work, particularly with regard to the play with two- and three-dimensional space perception. Through precisely calculated ‘experiments’ that show up the partiality of our visual perception of space, Escher alludes to things that either cannot actually exist as spatial objects or do exist, but resist representation. Similarly I will explore how my own sculptures, although existing in space resist a fixed representation and suggest ideas of other spaces, non-spaces; an in-between space that does not pin itself down and become fixed to any particular image, idea, objector representation.

Abstract:
This thesis is an attempt at an analysis of Andrzej Wajda's political films, Man of Marble, Man of Iron and Danton in a broad cultural and historical context. The manuscript is divided into five chapters. The first chapter, "The Political Film of Andrzej Wajda--Issues of Methodology", presents a theoretical basis for the discussion of political film. Bakhtin's dialogism complemented by linguistic pragmatics provides the methodology used in the thesis to illustrate the dialogical process of meaning formation in political films of Andrzej Wajda. Chapter two discusses Wajda as the carrier of the political message, while chapters three, four and five, respectively, contain the historical, the dramatis personae and the aesthetic discourses in the films under study.

Abstract:
From the most ancient monuments of literature to most recent, one finds the process of ekphrasis - description of real or imaginary plastic art works. The main subject of our comparative study are the ekphrastic poetic works of six poets belonging to three linguistic zones and thus to three different literary traditions: the French poets Charles Baudelaire and Yves Bonnefoy, the American poets William Carlos Williams and John Ashbery and the Macedonian poets Slavko Janevski and Vlada Urosevic. The aim of the research is not only to determine the dominant models of ekphrasis in their poetry, but also to clarify some theoretical aspects of the description of plastic art works: the generic statute of an ekphrastic text; the hermeneutic dimension of the ekphrasis and the intersemiotic, intertextual and metatextual communication/transposition. The semantics of the poetic text is inseparable from the bond with the works of fine arts, which represent the object of literary description

This dissertation studies the poetry of the book O Estranho, 1952, the poet from Para Max Martin and his knot with modern poetry. For this, we consider the poetry of Max dialogues with the texts of Brazilian poets of national renown and universal. According to Haroldo de Campos, a poetic relationship with the literary tradition and the project that requires the artistic text is a meeting between codes, in a rare ability to transfer the ephemeris even closer to the horizon of doing in the creation, fighting hand to hand with the word. This struggle with the verb is a fundamental part in the game poetic Max Martins. O Estranho, by questioning the place of poetry in his own time, the poet breaksdown the text and reveals the man and writing in the margins. The poetry of the stranger – the gauche drummondiano term suggests – is a “dialect” perhaps uninteligible to some. As the poem suggests that initial work, the language can even be incomprehensible, hence the word “stranger” (the title of the book and the first poem), in other words, a language shock, which is strange with reality, however, is whatever the poet, the transmutation of everyday reality in poetry. In this paper, we draw the relevant aspects of modern lyricism from a study on the concepts of Modern, Modernity and Modernism, passing quickly through modernism in Brazil, for to get to Pará modernism, and specifically the generation of Max. Finally, we propose an interpretation of the poems from the book (especially analyzing them in light of critical and reflective reading Benedito Nunes, the first critic of poems by Max Martins). Was also made publishing history of the poems before and after the publication of O Estranho. With this, we intend to contribute to literary studies regarding talk more al lenght about the important aspects of the poetry of Max Martins, especially about his initiation into the poetic world.

Anderson-Faithful, Sue. "Mary Sumner : religion, mission, education and womanhood 1876-1921." Thesis, University of Winchester, 2014. http://repository.winchester.ac.uk/2/.

Full text
Abstract:
Mary Sumner (1828-1921) founded the Anglican Mothers’ Union, which originated as a parish mothers’ meeting in 1876, and followed the Girls’ Friendly Society as the second women’s organisation to be sanctioned by the Church of England. By 1921, the Mothers’ Union had a membership extending across the British Empire and transnationally. Mary Sumner sought to educate mothers in Christian values and pedagogy so that they might educate their children to be future citizens of empire. Her life trajectory occurred against a context of evangelical religious revival, contest over matters of doctrinal authority, the proliferation of women’s philanthropy, the growth of the British Empire and changes in education characterised by state intervention in working-class elementary schooling and the negotiation of educational provision for middle- class girls. This thesis uses primary source material to build on institutional histories of the Mothers’ Union to situate Mary Sumner in networks, emphasise gender and class as mediating of opportunity, and envisage her religious ‘mission’ as educational. The thesis draws on the thinking tools of Pierre Bourdieu, habitus, field and capital, to analyse Mary Sumner’s negotiation of constraint and agency in relation to the fields of religion, mission (understood as religious and philanthropic activism ‘at home’ and overseas) and education through which womanhood runs as a connecting theme. Bourdieu’s concept of reproduction is used to position Mary Sumner in relation to the operation of power across domestic, local and global spaces. The thesis concludes that using Bourdieu’s ‘thinking tools’ highlights how Mary Sumner used opportunities for women within her temporal and socio-cultural context in ways that were complicit with notions of womanhood reflective of patriarchal domination and accepting of hierarchies of class and ‘race’, yet were innovative in her achievement of access for an organisation of women within Anglicanism that was recognised for its educational work.

Chien, Shiuh-Shen. "Policy innovation, asymmetric decentralization and local economic development in post-Mao China : case studies of China-Singapore Suzhou Industrial Park and Kunshan Economic and Technological Development Zone." Thesis, London School of Economics and Political Science (University of London), 2006. http://etheses.lse.ac.uk/1929/.

Full text
Abstract:
The Chinese government's economic reforms over the last couple of decades have led to rapid economic growth for the country. However, many empirical studies on the post-Mao China show that the economic transition towards market economy is in large part actually propelled by active local governments, which are encouraged to make policy innovations in order to promote better local economic development. This thesis aims to offer an understanding on how, why and under what circumstances the local governments of post-Mao China - while still controlled by a one-party communist regime- are able to make policy innovations to deal with business operating under market transition conditions. Theoretically, the phenomenon of local policy innovation can be analyzed with a framework involving three dimensions. First, local policy innovation can be seen to take place in order to respond to challenges presented by the changing macro development environments. Second, local policy innovation can be understood as a consequence of changing responsibilities and competencies between central and local governments. Third, local policy innovation may be related to the dynamics of local-central strategic interactions. Empirically, with the contextual approach as its chosen methodology, this theoretical framework is applied to two successful cases of innovation in Jiangsu province within the Yangtze Delta of post-Mao China: Kunshan Economic and Technological Development Zone (KETZ); and China-Singapore Suzhou Industrial Park (CSSIP). The history of these two national development zones identifies the former as a case of a 'locally initiated project' while the latter represents an example of 'local implementation of a centrally initiated project'. In terms of types of local-central dynamic interaction, 'state- intention to tolerate', 'ex-post state endorsement', and 'ex-ante state adoption' were seen sequentially in the case of KETZ, while 'marginalizing the local', 'local obedience', and 'local flexibility' operated simultaneously in the case of CSSIP. The thesis concludes that in post-Mao China significant local policy innovations were able to take place when localities encountered structural changes, including China's reengaging with globalization, changing local-central relations, and serious territorial competition. Actions of local policy innovations were ignited by agents, across scales, whose self-interests were highly involved in local economic development in the context of asymmetric decentralization. More specifically, in the post-Mao China context of economic decentralization to the local combined with political centralization under the party, career-minded local officials utilized their decentralized 'economic resources' to strive for more development, which in turn became their 'political capital' with the upper-level government to get themselves promoted.

Cuenca, León Ester. "Anàlisi genètica i molecular de les migranyes hereditàries." Doctoral thesis, Universitat de Barcelona, 2008. http://hdl.handle.net/10803/1902.

Full text
Abstract:
Migraine is a chronic, episodic and disabling prymary headache. The World Health Organization (WHO) rated migraine among the most disabling chronic disorders. Migraine has a complex etiology involving multiple susceptibility genes and environmental factors. However, there are rare forms of migraine in which the cause is monogenic.

The main goal of this work has been to study the genetic basis on the monogenic forms of migraine and more specifically, to identify new loci responsible for the migraine phenotype and new mutated alleles in genes responsibles for this genetically heterogeneous disorder.

A gene responsible for migraine has been mapped in two extensive unrelated families at chr14q32. However, the identification of the causative gene rest to be identified. On the other hand, nine missense mutations have been identified in the CACNA1A gene in Spanish patients with hemiplegic migraine (HM), migraine with aura (MA), chilhood periodic syndromes (CPS) and episodic ataxia type 2 (EA2). Three of the mutations are responsible for the FHM phenotype, one of them was identified in an individual who manifested symptoms of childhood benign paroxysmal torticolis that evolved to benign paroxysmal vertigo and finally to FHM. The fourth mutation found in a patient that manifested episodes of hypothermia with accompanying symptoms, could correspond to a CPS variant. Two more changes have been detected in patients with EA2. The seventh change was detected in an affected patient of EA2 and FHM, and the eighth in a patient with EA2 and MA. The ninth mutation has been identified in two patients with MA belonging to a HM family. Functional studies of p.Ala454Thr CACNA1A protein revealed that some variants can have a not causative but modifier role.

The linkage studies performed in this work provide significant evidence of the existence of a new common locus to FHM and MA. Its identification and the results of the mutational analysis carried out in CACNA1A gene increase the recognized genetic heterogeneity in monogenic forms of migraine. Identifying the new migraine gene will contribute to better understand the molecular mechanisms of migraine and the identication of new therapeutic targets.

This thesis explores May Sinclair's female protagonists in her Modernist texts, 1910-1923. 1 look at how Sinclair's work bears witness to her scene of writing and offer an analysis that places Sinclair, most centrally, in a dialogue with contemporary literary, psychoanalytical, and cultural influences.1 draw upon a wealth of unpublished material, medical archives and journals, newspapers, propaganda, novels of fellow female writers, and other artefacts of the day. By appraising these works together, the critical distinction between Modernism and the topical issues of early twentieth century Britain is seen to dissolve, and Sinclair’s writing emerges as an important oeuvre for reading the life of the modem woman. Women’s fiction of the period typically searches for autonomy and agency. However, as 1 show, the desire for radical social change is problematic and often in conflict with the prescribed code of an idealised, fixed female identity. Through an exploration and development of her own concept of sublimation, Sinclair confronts these complex ideological structures in her engagement with the position of women in her fiction. She places her women in a variety of situations—from the tightly knit, domestic home to the unfettered, open terrain of wild landscapes—and analyses the forces that hold women back or set them free. In my study of Sinclair's Modernist texts, 1 argue that Sinclair urges for psychic freedom for women from their cramped, repressive conditions; this is achieved through sublimation.

Abstract:

This work aims to analyse Max Weber's perspective in relation to the socialism. This great classic of the social thought argued against the feasibility of the socialist project from a very critical point of view. More precisely, this work delineates and analyses the double biased Weberian criticism towards socialism: Weber not only opposes the idea that the human emancipation would be reached in an established socialist society, but also criticises the possibilities of success of a social revolution that could lead to that sort of society. Unveiled the arguments that underpin Weber's criticism, the subsequent critical discussion of the author's reasons is addressed in the light of the historical background in which the German thinker has come up with them. The chain of values that guided the author, which provides the basis for his political-ideological position, seems to exert great influence on the view he holds on socialism, which he has only seen as an extensive form of the bureaucratic domination, something that has already existed in its predecessor, the modern capitalism. Taking that very idea as pivotal, that negative view of socialism, Weber has considered there was no way out for the cage of iron of bureaucracy, thus claiming it was something inexorable in modern times, either in capitalism or in socialism, capitalism's supposed antipodal. Finally, even though some historical developments of the socialist experiences give reason to Weber's arguing, the Weberian theorisation and his arguing, whose strength and influence are undeniable, are questioned here based on some critical elements. In order to do so, a wide range of Weber's works are browsed and analysed; the famous Conference on Socialism, though, proffered by Weber in 1918, is here taken as the fundamental document for research
