Full textThis philosophical reflection on the complex relations between form and matter on aesthetics has underlined their strong correlations through their rapports and their interdependences as well as their profound oppositions. Our thesis show how these relations formed according to three principal modes: suspension, imposition and continuum, as successive phases but complementary of the same aesthetic process, that of form-matter, original concept stemmed from their extreme imbrications that we propose as outcome of this present research. This thesis can lead to conceiving the functioning of a specific system of art of which the development can be extended to further research on the thinkability of art and it also oversteps the quarrels between aesthetic and anti-aesthetic reflections, by highlighting the essential stakes of their variable relations on aesthetics and their extension on politics

Full textEven though black is the antipode of light it is nevertheless inseparable from the world of cinema. What is black in cinema? A figure of shadow or darkness in the image that is also present as such. Black without representation and with its singular physical reality. This blackness is above all a technical condition which is hidden but which plays a decisive role in the production of optical illusions and the creation of fiction. It is also omnipresent in the entire process of making the cinematographic image. Black plays with light and conditions visibility and invisibility. In this sense it invents cinema. Black also offers another way of understanding what cinema is and how it works. This study will first deal with the material aspect of photography: photochemical blackening and the ideas it suggests as a process of image formation and dissolution. I will then portray the different effects produced by black- the black shape a rhetorical and mechanical tool. When it intervenes as a form in the image, of the image, and between the image. Finally, I will discuss how black can be an invading device of the screen and the projection space and reveal its role as a visual spectacle apparatus: the construction of an access to illusion and revelation. Each part of this outline will be dealt with in a historical, technical and aesthetic way. We will see in particular in artistic and experimental attempts that the emphasis on black makes it possible to reveal the characteristics of the cinematographic medium or even to re-invent cinema. This quest for blackness is revealed as a quest for the nature of cinema. A nature that the film industry is trying to erase. Black makes you see but it makes you see differently

Full textPractising the therapeutics mediation in group by the modeling of the earth with autistics and psychotics persons underlines the modalities/mode of constitution of the “medium malleable” and the work that it allows. The latest makes possible, through the action of modeling within framework plan, a setting of sensori motor (or sensorial traces), prior to the composition of the body image. The work of the “medium malleable” keeps the forms of the psychological envelope, as an individual plan or as a group. The constituted shapes emphasize the resort to symbolic acts that can be listed, witnesses of the state of composition of the psychological envelope. From the bi-dimension (adhesive identification)/2 dimension measurement to the 3 dimension measurement (projective identification), the subject crumbles the material, divides it, breaks, separates, gathers, puts together and builds. The work of the “medium malleable” and its mode of use update the link to the primary object. They also allow focusing on the “transfero-contre-transférentiels” effects. The specificity of the therapists (in co therapy in this case) concerns the acting of their own sensoriality, through the faculty of a “modeling interpretation”

Full textWe discuss diffusion and segregation studies performed in two kinds of technologically important materials : shape memory alloys and amorphous semiconductors. 63Ni GB diffusion is studied in polycrystalline NiTi by radiotracer. The results are presented in the framework of previous bulk diffusion studies. 63Ni and 67Ga bulk diffusion are studied in monocrystalline Ni2MnGa and the diffusion parameters compared to bulk diffusion parameters published in B2 systems. Surface segregation of Ge in amorphous Si1-xGex thin films is analyzed by AES. The equilibrium segregation parameters are obtained using McLean's model and the diffusion and segregation parameters calculated using Lea and Seah's model. Sb diffusion and segregation is studied in a-Si/Sb bilayers by AES. The diffusion and segregation parameters are calculated from the kinetic curves using Lea and Seah's model. The diffusivity and the segregation of Sb are compared to that of different dopants in a-Si and c-Si

Full textIn 2005, sales of systems for controlled release of bioactive substances have summed over 20% of total pharmaceutical sales. To achieve these systems aimed to reduce the frequency of drug doses, increasing their efficiency by locating the place of action and decreasing the dose necessary to ensure a uniform product issue was considered. To elaborate these drug release systems, the most important aspect is the choice of the polymer matrix involved in the implementation of release, or the material support for biologically active principle. In this thesis interpenetrated-interconnected networks (IPN) based on carboxymethylcellulose (CMC), poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) and gelatin (GEL) for developing systems with drug-polymer sustained release are presented. They are obtained by crosslinking these polymers with either epichlorohydrin (EpCl) in alkaline medium or glutaric aldehyde (AG) in neutral or acid medium. CMC, PVA and GEL are polymers (natural and synthetic) characterized by their biocompatibility and biodegradability, necessary conditions for materials used in biomedical applications. Reaction parameters of the synthesis of IPN based hydrogels under forms of film or particles were discussed and related with the properties of such materials. (composition, morphology, swelling. . . ). Inclusion and release of drugs were studied; their mechanism, kinetics and efficiency were evaluated according to the structural and physico-chemical characteristics of the materials, especially their swelling properties in aqueous media. The same systems were characterized in terms of antimicrobial activity and toxicity; potential in vivo applications of polymer-drug systems are described. Moreover magnetic polymer microparticles were elaborated and characterized. They allow specific applications which are discussed

Full textThe emerging matter designed nowadays in our laboratories is c1everly effective: scientists reproduce smart arrangements that the living matter has optimized over generations, or they structure the infinitely small to attain previously unimaginable properties. While an immaterial art has developed since the twentieth century, this new materiality in contemporary art renews its way to approach the ancient hylomorphic couple of matter / form. The artist does not sculpt the external form but the internal sub-structures of matter, not the object but its properties. Taking note of its passage through the world of ideas, matter arises both as a tangible and intangible presence, matter and gray matter. A material "which has a weight, which has a heart", in the words of Gaston Bachelard, whose touch - from the poetic caress to the containing tactility, from the embrace of love ta the destructive crushing - can touch us deeply. A performer substance, since it is effective and active, which intense presence and ability to make reality foreign to us arouse very rich aesthetic feelings. It becomes responsive. to embody interactive works of another kind with which we enter into relation directly through the language of matter, bypassing digitality. A matter to be thought of, since our thoughts are originally corporal. Thinking the limits of matter, for example, at the beginning of our process towards artificial life
Toniutti, Géraldine. "Les derniers vers du roman arthurien ˸ trajectoire d'un genre, anachronisme d'une forme." Thesis, Sorbonne Paris Cité, 2019. http://www.theses.fr/2019USPCA061.
Full textWhat does the choice of the verse in the novel involves, when prose is already the promoted form of the genre? It’s a question we ask to the last Arthurian romances in verse, written between 1260 and 1380. The uncommon choice of the verse in the novel questions the esthetic values conceded to each form during the 13th and the 14th centuries: the verse is resisting, but there’s a gap between this choice and the contemporary tastes, which value more prose than verse. The last Arthurian romances in verse give the chance to study the giving up of the verse for the benefit of the prose in the novel and its lyric specialization. The question of the generic consequences of a form choice is accurate in those texts, because the anachronic choice of the verse creates a particular way of dealing with the Arthurian matière. The form, verse or prose, supposes different prospects on the fictional world, on the temporality, on the values: the Arthurian myth is not presented the same way in verse or in prose. In addition, those novels are written at the end of a tradition: they are heirs to the novels of Chrétien de Troyes and to his “epigones”, but they are also heirs to the prose cycles of the 13th century. They have to deal with this tradition. The last Arthurian romances in verse are inspired by the narrative techniques of the Arthurian romances in prose. Even though there are many common features between the two productions, many generic differences prove that they are different genres and that the choice of a form involves different esthetic and ideological perspectives. From these interactions, a new poetic emerges, which we call “tardive”, between verse and prose

Full textThis paper examines the theorization and abstraction of the Four elements, namely, Fire, Air, Water and Earth, found in the works of Paul Claudel, who was cross-pollinated by the Oriental and Western Culture as a diplomat in China (1895-1909) and Japan (1921-1927). His academic findings and artistic development are approached by the author from multiple aspects: physical and metaphysical, moral and intellectual, religious and symbolic, poetic and imaginary. In his journey to the ultimate nature of the world, the material characteristic of the Four elements and God the Creator, the First Cause of the creation and the movement of the world, Claudel squarely and intentionally situated himself at the intersection of two Cultures as he draw great inspirations from the both. In the process of knowing and experiencing the omnipresence of God, Claudel explored the esoteric power running in the depth of his heart, using his study and imagination on the four elements to establish a network encapsulating the natural and the supernatural, the physical and metaphysical

Full textThe knowledge implies a predisposition to the knowledge, that is the possibility of the relation between a (knowing) subject and a (knowable) object. On the other hand, there is an established fact, which is the knowledge which has de facto place : the common, ordinary, always incomplete knowledge, to which the man is continuously to have access or to be having access. The real knowledge – full and whole – is situated outside of this ordinary cognitive domain ; exteriority which implies a present indisposition to have access there. The mathematical knowledge is of the first order – and it is true eminently, in other words, at the same time, as better possible knowledge and as knowledge revealing, best, through its own incompletion, the incompletion of any accessible knowledge (whose it is constitutive or auxiliary). Of the second order, is the eidetic knowledge (knowledge of the Forms – eidê, ideai – otherwise called Ideas), which is the knowledge of the really real (ontôs on) (whose the object, in its grasp, can only sign the real reality of the knowledge itself). From her part, the mathematical knowledge leads, in its incompletion, the knowledge of its principle and element, that is the real unit (that is unique, inseparable and undifferentiated, and thus paradoxically unknowable, in what, it leads, itself, the order of the real knowledge, that is the eidetic order), unit supposed to find, in the geometrical order, its expression, as measure and element common to all the measurable (the extent) and, at the same time, to all the countable ; expression which does not miss to be problematic (aporetic), the size remaining, theoretically, indefinite, and any size being divisible in the infinity, in smaller sizes. So, is attested the fact that the present (ordinary) cognitive disposition is inevitably to be disposition to the real knowledge, in the fact that this one should be in particular knowledge of the principle, the principle which we think of finding indicated, at Plato, under the expression “principle of the line”, dynamic and active, specifically not mathematical principle, always previous to any determination (size) – and, at the same time, to any enumeration – whatsoever

Full textEDELWEISS is a direct non-baryonic cold dark matter detection experiment in the form of weakly interacting massive particles (also known as WIMPs), which currently constitute the most popular candidates to account for the missing mass in the Universe. To this purpose, EDELWEISS uses germanium bolometers at cryogenic temperature (20 mK approximately) in the Underground Laboratory of Modane (LSM) at the French-Italian border. Since 2008, a new type of detector is operated, equipped with concentric electrodes to optimize the rejection of surface events (coplanar-grid detectors). This thesis work is divided into several research orientations. First, we carried out measurements concerning charge collection in the crystals. The velocity laws of the carriers (electrons and holes) have been determined in germanium at 20 mK in the <100> orientation, and a complete study of charge sharing has been done, including an evaluation of the transport anisotropy and of the straggling of the carriers. These results lead to a better understanding of the inner properties of the EDELWEISS detectors. Then, studies relating to the improvement of the performances were carried out. In particular, we have optimized the space-charge cancellation procedure in the crystals and improved the passive rejection of surface events (β). The fiducial volume of the detectors has been evaluated using two X-ray lines from cosmically activated radionuclides: 68Ge and 65Zn. Lastly, an exhaustive study of the low energy spectra has been carried out, which makes it possible to develop a systematic analysis method for the search of low-mass WIMPs in EDELWEISS

Full textStarting with central hypothesis of research with the decisive and deciding part of the substance in the organisation of the form generated by the photography and backing is wanting to analyse and understand the connection between the morphogenesis of photographic picture and the formal innovations proposed by the photography as an object. It is always to give the theoric possibility to draw and conceptualise esthetic measures of photography form, such as distance, monochrome and ambivalence. It is also to show that photography picture is a nodal point of theoretic thoughts. Appealing to sciences, tecnics and philosophy, photography is the central line of a preferential searching for an essentially materiological esthetic. This searching considered the photographies for the period 1839-1929

Full textAristotle's Metaphysics contains analyses of movement. The present thesis seeks to determine the reasons for their presence in these texts, and the point of view - different from that of physics - under which Aristotle studies what the causes and principles of natural movements are. A study of previous opinions and the construction of correlative aporias shows that Aristotle situates the inquiry of the Metaphysics in continuity with those of other philosophers: the aim is to conceive what the first principles of all things, or of all beings, are, in a way that improves on the Physicists and the Platonists. Now, since he criticises his predecessors’ principles on the ground that they are incapable of explaining natural movements, we can conclude that the solutions conceived by Aristotle do provide first principles capable of accounting for natural movements. The wisdom and the first science of the Metaphysics is, in my view, this search for the first principles and the first causes. This science is the science of substance, and so is distinguished from physical science, in that it establishes that substances are the first principles of all things, and this in three different senses: (1) substances are principles of all things, since without them there can be no other beings and no movement; (2) the form is first substance and principle of compound substances; and, with matter, it is an ungenerated principle for their generations and their movements; (3) there are substances that are prior to natural substances: the ordered movers of the movements of the celestial spheres

Full textThe aim of the thesis is to read Claude Simon’s work through the study of space perception as it varies throughout the successive literary forms of his writings. It appears that these forms are inflected by the relationship between the subject – character, narrator or autobiographer – and the scenes of the action. Either the hero is in conflict with his own family life and the scenes where the action takes place describe the traditional background of an initiatory journey, sustaining a testimony or a social satire; or the narrator/writer throws himself into a stormy struggle against common believes and commonplaces, the library, the literary surroundings and as a final issue, his own work. When it comes to the case where Simon’s novel has to renounce its traditional ingredients, such as the story of the characters, the site becomes the main object of the show. Finally, whenever the autobiographer uses the raw material of his own experiences, the scenes of the memory linked to individual or collective history, encysted in the writer’s own body reveal themselves to be the purpose for writing

Full textIn this manuscript, we use a tuning fork based atomic force microscope to measure the mechanical response of various soft matter systems at the nanoscale. This instrument is used as a nano-rheometer, allowing quantitative measurements of viscoelastic material properties, and unprecedented characterization of friction and dissipation at the nanoscale. First, we show that ionic liquids can undergo a dramatic change in their mechanical properties when confined at the nanoscale, pointing to a capillary freezing transition. This transition is favored by the metallic nature of the confining substrates, suggesting the occurrence of subtle electrostatic effects in those dense electrolytes. Second, we probe plasticity at the individual atomic level, by measuring the viscoelastic rheological response of gold junctions of few atoms diameter. For increasing shear, we uncover a transition from a purely elastic regime to a plastic flow regime, up to the complete shear-induced melting of the junction. Our measurements give unprecedented insights on the plastic mechanisms at play in those molecular systems. Finally, we show that nanoscale interactions can have profound effects on the macroscopic behavior of soft materials. Focusing on the nonnewtonian flow behavior of concentrated suspensions of particles, we measure the nanoscale frictional force profile between pairs of particles of PVC and cornstarch suspensions. Our measurements highlight the dominant role of local interparticle interactions on the macroscale rheology of suspensions

Full textThe societies without writing appear as societies where proliferate signs, in a visual sense, printed, painted, carved, scarified, tattooed, woven. . . These designs are all meaningful and implicate, for their authors, a real reading: they constituted the organized elements of a graphic language. For the Bwaba, their interpretation is linked to a general thought about the object and his shapes and materials: every object, natural or manufactured, is described and conceived according to the process of the formation of the world ass it appears in the cosmogony. This process includes several stages, from the formless shapes to the coming out of shapes; the apparition of the human configuration would be the last stage. Three representations are studied: scarification’s, leaves masks, and a ritual object consisted of heterogeneous materials

Full textThis thesis contains 3 main parts. Nuclear matter. The properties of nuclear matter are examined using finite range effective interactions, either derived from the Brueckner theory (M3Y-type interactions) or determined in a purely phenomenological way (Gogny-type interactions). Skyrme-type interactions are also used for comparison. The motivation of the study is to establish a link between the bare NN interaction and nuclear matter properties via the effective Brueckner G-matrix parameterized in the M3Y form. We have concentrated our discussion on several main aspects: the pressure in symmetric nuclear matter and in neutron matter, the density dependence of the symmetry energy S, the neutron star cooling, and the nuclear matter incompressibility for the symmetric and asymmetric nuclear matter. Structure of finite nuclei and of the inner crust of neutron stars. We present the non-relativistic Hartree-Fock (HF) and HF-BCS approaches in coordinate representation using finite-range density-dependent interactions in both the mean field and pairing channels. The method for solving the HF equations in coordinate space is presented. We limit the study to the spherical symmetry case. An iterative scheme is used for solving the integro-differential HF equations. We adopt the method of Brueckner-Gammel-Weizner which is free of poles in the local equivalent potentials, in contrast to the usually used Vautherin - Vénéroni method. Alternatively, we have developed a method using a basis of spherical Bessel functions. The latter method is useful for treating systems containing many nucleons in large boxes like the Wigner-Seitz (WS) cells of the neutron star inner crust. We have thus studied, using the effective interactions mentioned above, the doubly magic nuclei, the Sn isotopes, and the possible occurrence of bubble structures in the nuclei 22O, 34Si, 46Ar and 68Ar. We also present for the first time a study of Wigner-Seitz cells in the inner crust of neutron stars using finite range interactions. We have thus examined the structures of the different zones of the inner crust, from the lowest densities up to densities close to the vicinity of half saturation density where the spherical assumption breaks down. Nuclear reactions. Using the same effective interactions derived from the M3Y-type interactions we have performed a coupled channel analysis of (p,n) charge exchange reactions at 35 and 45 MeV incident energies on 48Ca, 90Zr, 120Sn and 208Pb targets leading to isobaric analog states. The form factors are either calculated microscopically by the convolution model, or evaluated from the global optical potential taken from the literature. We have first determined the component of the CDM3Y6 interaction which depends on the isovector density by using the microscopic optical potential of Jeukenne, Lejeune and Mahaux, and then this was used for the folding model. Thus, we have been able to assess the validity of the component of CDM3Y6 which depends on the isovector density
