Abstract:
ABSTRACT: Teacher performance has been the focus of educational policy reforms in recent decades for the professional development of teachers. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of teaching experience and peer teaching skills on basic training on ECE teacher performance. This research uses ex-post facto quantitative method of comparative analysis and design by level. The population is all ECE teachers who attend basic-level education and training in Tangerang Regency, totaling 3358 people consisting of 116 male teachers and 3,242 female teachers. Data collection techniques using a questionnaire with data analysis include descriptive analysis. Requirements test analysis and inferential analysis. The results show that there are differences in the performance of ECE teachers between teachers with more than five years of teaching experience and less than five years, in the group of ECE teachers with high peer teaching skills and low peer teaching skills. The implication of this research is that it is hoped that various parties will become more active in aligning ECE teacher training so that it can improve the performance of ECE teachers. Abstract:
Internationalization of higher education has become an irreversible trend of modern world, where international course is the key link. For Chinese universities, during the transition from traditional ‘Foreign students class’ (for foreign students only) to ‘International class’, in which Chinese students and foreign students will be trained under one roof, they have to face great challenges of teaching transition, including teaching contents, methods, examinations transformations. In this paper, taking materials physics courses for example, we put forward some suggestions on teaching transformation of international education from ‘Foreign students class’ to ‘International class’, basing on the experience of one-year visiting in University of Victoria (UVic), Canada and the differences of teaching between our Northwestern Polytechnical University (NPU) and UVic.

Abstract:
AbstractThe poor health status of Australia’s Indigenous people is well-documented, as are the links between health and education. Aboriginal communities recognise the utmost importance of improving educational, physical, social and economic well-being in an environment where disproportionate numbers of Aboriginal students fail to complete secondary schooling. The aim of this paper is to highlight the issues of access, participation, retention and outcomes for Indigenous students wishing to study or currently studying health courses at a tertiary level. This project used a qualitative descriptive approach, conducting in-depth interviews with a number of key stakeholders and students in rural Victoria. Sixteen participants were interviewed, 14 of whom were from the Indigenous community.Participants identified key issues that were linked to the university and broader community environment. Factors in the university environment included lack of Indigenous staff within the mainstream university system, limited support and culturally inappropriate teaching that lead to negative learning experiences and poor motivation to continue with education. In the broader community, the isolating experience of leaving close-knit rural communities and the influence of past experiences on students’ aspirations for tertiary education was highlighted. The importance of community support and liaison with the university and marketing of health courses to the Indigenous communities in the region were key issues that participants identified as needing further attention.

Abstract:
This paper aims to observe how the Australian COVID-19 restrictions influenced higher education, teachers’ and students’ lives. Before the pandemic, the higher education sector was the largest serviced based sector in Australia and overly depended on international students’ fee income. The academic year of 2020 started as usual with 141703 higher education enrolments of overseas students, mainly students from Asia. However, they did not arrive due to the strict border closure. Travel restrictions were put in place from China from 1 February 2020, later from other countries worldwide. That significantly affected international students' travel from Asia directly before the start of the new academic year. Consequently, many institutions have transitioned from campus-based courses to online delivery. Besides, numerous academic lecturers and professional staff have been invited to the expression of interest in a voluntary and, of course, involuntary redundancy program. Most vacant positions have been frozen, and various saving programs have been implied. Owing to the toughest rules and strictest restrictions, Australian borders remained closed for over 600 days. Melbourne was under six lockdowns totalling 265 days since March 2020, which resulted in the author’s experience of three semester-long remote teaching at one of the biggest and most prominent universities in Melbourne without any personal contact with international students. The author lived and worked in Melbourne during the COVID-19 era, so this study is based on her perspectives and experiences extended with a wide empirical evaluation of secondary data about the Australian academic sector between 2020 and 2021.

Abstract:
This study develops teaching materials for mechatronics in higher education. Industrial societies require numerous mechatronics engineers, and most technical universities provide mechatronics exercises in their curriculums. However, it is difficult for teachers and students to modify and improve the mechatronic teaching materials because the provided materials are finished products. Therefore, a simple and inexpensive educational system is developed to overcome the disadvantages of the finished products. In this paper, an experimental apparatus is proposed for mechatronics education, and a practical example is presented that involves learning control methods, sensors, actuators, and mechanics.

Abstract:
The article analyses autobiographical essays on key career stages and typical career paths written by Russian university teachers. Motives and attitudes influencing their decisions whether to continue or finish their careers are identified. The article studies career strategies and motivation of academic and teaching staff to be involved in the academic labour market. Based on these results, three key career tracks are formed: 1) intracorporate (classical inbreeding) – university graduates are employed in the same university they graduated from; 2) intraprofessional – university graduates choose to work in the academic field outside their alma mater; 3) mixed (intercorporate) – university graduates may leave the academic field immediately after graduation or sometime later, but then return to the field of higher education as members of academic and teaching staff. The study of the autobiographical essays of academic and teaching staff in higher education has shown that there are eight stages of academic career related to: obtaining higher education, having work experience and subsequent employment, obtaining a Candidate of Sciences Degree or second higher education, career changes after defending a post-graduate thesis, obtaining a PhD and subsequent career changes and becoming a corresponding member or an academician at the state academy of sciences. These stages create a fork in the road (potential opportunity) for academic and teaching staff to follow or to change their career paths. The study was conducted using the method of semi-formalised expert interview with 86 members of academic and teaching staff from five Russian universities – Tyumen State University, Tomsk State University, St. Petersburg Polytechnic University, National Research Nuclear University (MEPhI).

Abstract:
In this rapidly changing age, with virtually all information available on the Internet including courses, students may not find any reason to physically attend the lectures. In spite of the many benefits the online lectures and materials bring to teaching, this drift from the traditional (norm) face-to-face lectures is also creating further barriers, such as difficulty in communicating and building personal relationships, between students and instructor. In this paper we carry out a study that presents and analyzes factors that motivate students to attend a (1) face-to-face instruction in-class versus an (2) online class. This study is based on an anonymous and voluntary survey that was conducted in the School of Engineering at University of Victoria, BC, Canada. This paper presents and shares the detailed results and analysis of this survey that also includes some interesting and useful comments from the students. Based on the results, analysis and comments the paper suggests methodologies of how to improve face-to-face in-class instructions to make them more relevant to the current global information age.

Abstract:
It is time to shift teaching practice from traditional teacher-centred to novel student- centred which mainly focuses on the digital technology in higher education. Flipped approach can empower student’s self- learning knowledge and help them think critically; however, inductive teaching is essential for academic process at university level. The current study investigates student’s ongoing cognitive skills and the effects of flipped approach on student’s procedure. This research shows students view towards flipped approach during the learning process. The researcher as a teacher has evaluated a flipped classroom with the second and fourth year students in English department, faculty of education, Soran University. The survey was conducted among 104 undergraduate students of the English department. The data were analysed by t-test to find out student’s view on flipped approach. Most students were challenged with flipped process inside and outside the class due to lacking on campus facilities. Thus, the results demonstrated that the students prefer face to face approach in the class although flipped approach has positive effect on students learning. The study proposes that academic staff should be more involved in teaching flipped approach and apply new pedagogy in the leaning process to save time and promote students' critical thinking.

Abstract:
Machinima, screencast animated videos made in a virtual world, are still not a very well-known phenomenon, and there has been little reseach in relation to their use as a teaching material in English language classrooms. This study aimed to investigate the potential for and challenges in using machinima in the pre-intermediate English as a foreign language (EFL) classroom. Bespoke machinima were created for three classes in Nepal, and the lessons using them were observed. Two teachers and four students were given semi-structued interviews, and 20 students were asked to write a reflective note on their impression of the use of machinima. The findings of the study indicate that machinima are distinct from other materials in that they can be contextualized to address the needs, interests, and values of the learners. Student engagement is thus found to have been significantly higher.

Abstract:
Corpora has been widely used in language teaching and learning nowadays. The use of corpora facilitates teachers for effective language teaching, meanwhile it provides valuable materials for the language learners to learn the language. The current study focuses on the self-designed corpus in dictation part in TEM4 and aims to explore if there any difference exists in the three sets of materials (TEM4 dictation, TEM4 mock and listening textbook dictation). Abstract:
In this study, the effect of nanocellulose sulfonate group content on adsorption of an opioid simulant was tested. The opioid simulant used was Victoria blue R, an amine dye. Nanocellulose filters were fabricated by crosslinking cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs) with chitosan to improve the mechanical stability of freeze-dried CNCs. Thermogravimetric analysis confirmed the filter’s thermal stability and operating temperatures. Conductometric titration, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and scanning electron microscopy techniques were used to characterize the degree of nanocellulose functionalization. Lastly, the adsorption performance of the sulfonated nanocellulose filter was tested and fitted to kinetic models and adsorption isotherms. The adsorption of the dye by the sulfonated nanocellulose followed pseudo-second order kinetics and the Langmuir isotherm. The maximum adsorption of Victoria blue R dye by sulfonated nanocellulose (68.56 mg/g) is significantly higher than those of other adsorbents, like activated carbon (0.59-2.97 mg/g) and magnetic microparticles (40.98 mg/g). Thus, sulfonated cellulose nanocrystals are a promising material for the sequestration of opioids from water.

Abstract:
This article focuses on exploring whether teacher educators and teacher students at higher teacher education programs have constructed their teaching philosophy statements, how they implement such philosophy statements, and how they develop and evaluate the contents of the teaching materials related to the courses they are instructing. By following the qualitative case study methodology, the author employed semi-structured interviews with twenty teacher educators and fifteen teacher students from one state higher education institution in Yemen. With the employment of thematic network analysis techniques, the findings report on the lack of awareness concerning the teaching philosophy statements construction, the random process of designing and evaluating teaching materials, and the lack of teaching aids for realizing the teaching philosophies of those with developed teaching statements. For practical implementation, university leaders and administrators are recommended to establish a program that focuses on the professional development of the teaching faculty with a focus on highlighting and providing useful knowledge on the ‘teaching philosophy statements’ construction and ‘materials design and evaluation’ processes. Abstract:
The use of digital materials in higher education is an integral part of graduate student learning to enhance twenty-first-century skills. Higher education institutions have witnessed an influx of graduate students who prefer the use of digital materials. Digital materials include online assignments, quizzes, and tests. The purpose of this study was to investigate the traditional approach to teaching graduate accounting with textbook only in comparison to teaching with the use of digital materials. The aim was to introduce students to the use of digital materials and how it could be used to enhance their twenty-first-century skills. The primary goal of the study was to determine whether the treatment group learned more than the control group taught in the previous semester the non-traditional approach. The null hypothesis for this study states that there was no difference in student learning outcomes between the group of students who learned using digital materials and students who learned the same course using traditional methods. The mixed-methods study design shed light on the research through the quantitative (cross-sectional) that supported the null hypothesis on the assignment grade section. The results indicate that while there were significant improvements in the overall final grades in the treatment group, the overall final grades of the control group were significantly lower. In conclusion, the use of digital materials alone is not enough to result in enhancing twenty-first-century skills. The study indicated that teaching graduate accounting should include every effective resource at the disposal of the instructor.

Abstract:
Purpose – This research aims to examine the main findings of the SusTEACH study of the carbon-based environmental impacts of 30 higher education (HE) courses in 15 UK institutions, based on an analysis of the likely energy consumption and carbon emissions of a range of face-to-face, distance, online and information and communication technology (ICT)-enhanced blended teaching models. Design/methodology/approach – An environmental assessment of 19 campus-based and 11 distance-based HE courses was conducted using questionnaire surveys to gather data from students and lecturers on course-related travel: the purchase and use of ICTs and paper materials, residential energy consumption and campus site operations. Results were converted into average energy and CO2 emissions, normalised per student per 100 study hours, and then classified by the primary teaching model used by lecturers. Findings – The main sources of HE course carbon emissions were travel, residential energy consumption and campus site operations. Distance-based HE models (distance, online and ICT-enhanced teaching models) reduced energy consumption by 88 per cent and achieved significant carbon reductions of 83 per cent when compared with campus-based HE models (face-to-face and ICT-enhanced teaching models). The online teaching model achieved the lowest energy consumption and carbon emissions, although there were potential rebound effects associated with increased ICT-related energy consumption and paper used for printing. Practical implications – New pedagogical designs using online and distance-based teaching methods can achieve carbon reductions by reducing student travel via residential and campus accommodation. Originality/value – Few studies have examined the environmental performance of HE teaching models. A new classification of HE traditional, online and blended teaching models is used to examine the role of ICTs and the likely carbon impacts.

Abstract:
The difficulty in gathering teaching resources presents challenges in the process of developing instructional materials for smart higher education. This essay makes a research proposal for a study using data mining technology to create instructional materials for smart higher education. The analysis of the dynamic scheduling mechanism of intelligent higher education teaching resources based on data analysis technology in unbalanced data environment follows research on the establishment of teaching materials from the discovery of teaching materials, the marking of teaching materials, and the organization of teaching materials. In the end, it is determined that class A students’ grades are unquestionably higher than those of class B students. Of course, there are some class B students who score higher than average, but class B students tend to score between 50 and 60 points on average, whereas class A students tend to score higher than average. The contrast is greater, and there are more pupils scoring between 90 and 100. The average grade for students in class A is 80.125, whereas the average grade for students in class B is 71.45. The lowest score in Class B is 51, the lowest score in A is 58, and the greatest score in A is up to 98. It is clear that the development of intelligent teaching resources for higher education based on data mining technology is very successful and has been thoroughly proven.

Abstract:
The study evaluated the higher education institutions (HEIs) emergency remote instructional delivery using the context, input, process, product (CIPP) evaluation model. To determine the responses of HEI administrators and teachers in terms of the four CIPP elements, the sequential explanatory mixed-method design was used. Teachers' digital competence (n=108) obtained through the modified SELFIE tool was analyzed using descriptive statistics. Interview data from the teachers (n=7) and administrators (n=6) were analyzed using Braun and Clarke's thematic analysis steps. Findings revealed three themes for context evaluation: materials and connectivity for learning continuity, leadership and technology infrastructure, and technological capability. Teachers' digital competence, support and resources, and curriculum and instruction were the identified themes on input evaluation. Analysis of the process led to identifying the two themes: a call for action and the culture of change. The result of the product evaluation revealed flexibility, resilience, self-helpfulness, and interdependence. The acknowledgment of the unique context, input, and support obtained during the critical period of transitioning to emergency remote teaching led to the desired educational pathways in teaching and learning amidst and beyond the pandemic. The emerging remote teaching realities will strengthen the technological capabilities of the institution to enhance teachers’ and students’ digital competencies.
