Full textA study of the laboratory material in fraction teaching based on students' perspectiveAuthor: Ruzica PajicThe purpose of this study is to achieve a deeper understanding of the laboratory material significance in school mathematics. In this master thesis has been examined how children's perspectives are affected in 6th grade based on how learning materials are used in mathematics education . In earlier research reported children's learning and how it is portrayed by the cognitive, cultural and socio-cultural perspective. These perspectives are presented and compared theorists ; Vygotsky and Bruner with each other. These theorists have been chosen because they present the basics of using the learning materials in schools . In this study, laboratory material for teaching purposes , the laboratory material that students can use is , fractions rods. Laboratory materials have been defined based artifacts according to Wartofsky (1979) can be divided into three categories : primary , secondary and tertiary . I have chosen to work from artifacts when I have interpreted and drew conclusions based on theory and research.During the observations in the classroom I could see the perspective of children affected depending on how they used the laboratory material. Students could use the material in three different categories. This was evident in the interviews held in the focus groups. The results showed that most children used the secondary artifact , there were some students who used both the tertiary and the primary artifact. The children came up with the teacher as an important factor if prima facie they learn and this came up clearly in the observations and interviews . It is the teacher's instructions and guidelines that affect the child's perspective , and it has great impact on how children learn fractions. How does the use of learning materials the children's perspective and what impact it has on how they learn ?The results turned out to students' perspectives from the three categories . Students who used the secondary and tertiary artifact experienced laboratory material positive and instructive. The students described in their interviews that they could be active, team-working, have a variety and get a greater understanding of fractions. The students who used the primary artifact did not understand how to use learning materials in teaching. The difficulties that students experienced when they would use laboratory material was primarily due to teachers' instructions . The students did not understand how to use the material and it was not sufficiently specific and clear to them. Some students thought that it is teachers who have the answers . The observation could interpreted in that some students had difficulty understanding the task when they did not actively participate . Mostly in the study experienced students when they assumed the secondary and tertiary artifact that fights the data became more concrete with the help of rods , leading to the sense of reality that also led to increased communication between students.

Full textThis study is about how and for what purpose teachers use concrete materials in mathematics. The curriculum says that students should have the opportunity to use concrete materials in math. Research shows that concrete material leads to a better understanding for students in learning of mathematics. Researchers believe that the teacher is the important key person so the material will have the right effect. This thesis will highlight teachers' views on concrete material and the purpose for why it should be used. Through qualitative observations and interviews with teachers from four schools in grades 1, shows results that all teachers have a similar view of how it should be used, but it varies in how teachers are using it. Based on the interviews conducted, it appears that the majority of teachers have an ambition to make use of concrete materials. In practice, however, there are limitations that make the concrete material is not used so that teachers had wanted. Based on the research available is it the teacher who is the crucial factor for what effect the concrete material will have for the students learning.

Full textInterconnections are electrical conductive tracks that aim to transport electricity or digital signals between components in a circuit. The conventional way of doing this is to use connections of solid metal, since they have low electrical resistance and are thereby suitable conductors. In this study, different materials have been investigated for their suitability to be used as textile interconnections. Textile in-terconnections are needed in for instance medical measuring equipment garments. A textile interconnection in a garment needs to withstand washing and bending. In this study three conductive yarns are tested; Bekinox VN 12/2*275/175S, Shieldex 235/34 and Highflex 3981 7*1 Silver. A textile interconnection narrow fabric with four copper wires within, OHM-e-12-L-1, by the company Ohmatex has also been investigated. The conductive silicon Elastosil LR 3162 A/B has also been investigated for its suitability to fit as textile interconnection and as electrical contact with conductive yarns. Washing tests have been made to investigate how the materials electrical resistance is affected by washing. To measure and under-stand the materials flexibility and how the resistance is affected by bending of the material, the materials have been bended in a bending apparatus that has been developed in this study. It has also been investigated whether or not a silicon coat-ing, Dow Corning 3140 RTV Coating, of the yarns may protect them from the chemical and mechanical wearing of washing and bending. The change in re-sistance has then been compared to values of the uncoated yarns. Since the coat-ing is electrically isolating the yarns, screen printed contact points of Elastosil has been added and investigated. Bekinox withstands both washing and bending well. The electrical resistance of Shieldex increases by washing, but the silicon coated yarns increase less than the uncoated yarns. Shieldex withstands the bending test well and the change in re-sistance is low. Highflex passes the washing test well and has very low resistance. But the Highflex yarn is sensitive to mechanical deformation and gets damaged by the bending test. The silicon coating has no protecting effect here. Elastosil is not suitable as an interconnection and the contact points by Elastosil are neither working well together with the conductive yarns. But Elastosil do withstands both the washing and bending test well. The conductive narrow fabric by Ohmatex withstands both the washing and bending test well and it is suitable as an inter-connection.

Full textWith increasing demands on the surface quality and straightness of bar products for both sale and additional processing at Sandvik Materials Technology certain products are approaching the limits of the existing straightening equipment. This is accelerated when combined with the introduction of harder materials in larger dimensions. Straightening is primarily performed with cross-roll bend straightening. The studied bar products are the duplex steel 2RD99 in Ø 169 mm as well as the rock drill steel 4HS64 in Ø 149 mm, 5HS23 in Ø 135 mm and 19HS20 in Ø 124,4 mm. In order to evaluate if the products could be reliably straightened the process was modelled with analytical calculations and FEM simulations to acquire the specific parameters for each product that fulfilled an estimated straightening condition. The FEM model was verified by using the suggested parameters in the straightening of bars and taking samples from a series of products on which Vickers hardness tests were performed. Hardness profiles were created to evaluate if the deformation hardening followed the plastic deformation anticipated by the FEM simulations. The hardness profiles combined with post processing straightness measurements indicated that the straightening equipment has the capacity to process them. A FEM simulation of the straightening process modelled with worn rollers showed that the required roller force greatly increased because of a change in geometry of the worn component and that specific products could no longer bestraightened within the limits of the straightening machine.

Full textA circular economy is based on the principles of designing away waste, where waste is seen as a raw material resource. To move to a fossil-free society, materials from renewable raw materials will be needed. Bio-based materials usually do not have the same technical characteristics and aesthetic expressions as existing materials, bio-based DIY materials developed from unconventional raw material resources can provoke strong positive and negative reactions among users. This study has investigated how a Material-driven design process through form and culture can create acceptance for a bio-based DIY material from an unconventional raw material resource. The study's main purpose has been to contribute with new knowledge to make it easier for designers in a Material Driven Design process to identify uses and product forms that can strengthen material acceptance among users. In-depth areas in the study are theories for Sustainable Development, Circular Economy, Bioeconomy, Material Driven Design for Sustainability and Culture Sensitive Design. The main method of the study has been Material Driven Design, which is covered by several design methods. The study shows that the cultural link between the users and the origin of the raw material has had a significant impact on material acceptance by creating meaning for the user and that the material primarily needs to be applied in a product in such a way that the user has confidence in its performance. The results are presented in the form of a proposal for a user study and a product concept.

Full textThe society of spreading useful knowledge started to sell its magazine Reading for the People (RFP) in 1834. The idea with the society was to, through the magazine that contained useful knowledge, enlighten the Swedish peasantry. RFP contained articles about agricultural and economy for example.
My goal with this essay is to investigate how the use of foreign articles in RFP changed over time. I’m also going to present a field and language categorization of the foreign articles and study the articles from Benjamin Franklin and Charles Dickens and investigate what kind of articles they wrote. My questions of researching are: What sort of articles did Benjamin Franklin and Charles Dickens contribute to RFP? How much was foreign articles used in RFP and from were did the foreign articles come? To reach my goals with this examination I’ve studied the magazine RFP nr 1 -79.
The results I have came up with are that the use of foreign articles sank considerably after 35 years and that Benjamin Franklin presented most economical articles and that Charles Dickens presented articles containing more general knowledge. I divided the articles in three different fields that follows in magnitude, non practical but enlightening, practical and religious. The most common foreign language in articles was Danish were historical articles was most common, followed by Norwegian, English, German and French articles.

Full textThe target for this master thesis was to study the movements of material that appears in direct connection to the shore as a result of ship wave influence. Of specific interest was to study the type of material that Daleke et al (1989) finds a compliance with – between their observations and an erroneous version of the Hjulström diagram – but also other material should be studied. The field work was performed in Furusundsleden fairway and in the fairway adjacent to Lidingö, where the Finland-ferry traffic is dense.In fairways such as this where the volume of water is confined there is a creation of powerful water movements, drawdowns, aside from the common ship backwash waves. Both these types of water movements affect the material along the shore.

Full textHaving statistically acquired measurements on the wear of precision tools like doctor blades can be used to assist further development and marketing of these products. In this thesis the development of a testing method for studying the wear on doctor blades has been conducted. The tests have been performed in a testing rig to simulate a rotogravure printing press. The goal of the thesis work is to develop a method for testing the wear resistance of five different doctor blade products in a testing rig and then applying this method to get a documented comparative study between the different doctor blade products. The results from the testing shows wear of the doctor blades using lamella length loss and weight loss and units of measurement.The results clearly show that Product C shows less wear than Product A. Lamella length loss is the recommended unit of measurement for measuring the wear on the doctor blades, this makes it possible to compare coated and uncoated blades. For a higher repeatability of the tests further studies are recommended with the paints corrosiveness, temperature and viscosity in mind. Further studies are also recommended into different kinds of paint, with softer pigments while increasing the test length. Further studies should also be performed to gain a greater understanding of the different wear mechanisms that contribute to the wear of the doctor blades during testing.

Full textSyftet med studien var att undersöka hur pedagogerna arbetar när det gäller konstruktionsleken i förskolan. Syftet var även att få reda på vilket material barnen har är använda sig utav samt vad som görs med det som barnen har konstruerat. Genomförandet bygger på kvalitativa semistrukturerade intervjuer. Semistrukturerade intervjuer valdes just för att få så mycket information som möjligt, med öppna frågor i en semistrukturerad intervju kan man få den informationen som är relevant för undersökningen. Resultatet visar att det finns olika material att tillgå i förskolorna men kunskap inom ämnet saknas och efterfrågas utav pedagogerna. Materialet är någorlunda lika, vissa pedagoger använder sig utav skogsmaterial medans andra inte det. Detta verkar bero på tillgång till skogen

Full textLitografi är det mest avgörande steget i arbets flödet för halvledar mikrotillverkning. Kontinuerliga funktioner storlek krympande co-sker med minskning av exponeringen våglängd: en över gången från 193 nm ljus till extrem ultraviolett (EUV) vid 13.5 nm utförs. Förändringen innebär ett stort antal utmaningar som har övervunnits under de senaste åren. Bland de andra, är skyddet av rikt medel fram sidan från defekter avgörande. Avskärmning kan åstadkommas med hjälp av EUV-pellicles: stort område (~ 150 cm2), fristående, ultratunna (~ 50 nm) membran som hindrar partiklar från att landa på rikt medlet ytan. Defekter faller på denna tunna membranet, som är out-of-fokus med avseende på rikt medlet. Under drift har denna tunna att uthärda mekaniska rörelser (> 100 m/s2) och motstå EUV skanner miljö. Med ökande käll effekt (vilket resulterar i temperaturer > 500 º C) måste strukturell och kemisk integritet garanteras. Med flera halvledar tillverkare införa EUV i HVM, ett brådskande behov av en massa volym produktions klara denna tunna lösning är närvarande.I detta arbete, exponeras nya generationens denna tunna material för EUV ljus-och gasatmosfär på BESSY II Synchrotron beamline. Syftet är att undersöka prestandan hos de nya membranproverna i form av HVM-produktionsspecifikationer. Två uppsättningar av 10x10 mm2 prover typ (A – B) med olika kärna tjocklek testas. Proverna kännetecknas av att använda följande tekniker: EUV-transmission och reflektansmätningar, RBS, XPS och FTIR. Efter exponering genomgår alla prover nedbrytning. De viktigaste bakomliggande orsakerna är atmosfären miljö och temperaturen. Å andra sidan spelar EUV-ljuset självt en marginell roll i processen. Materialetsnings mekanismen måste undersökas ytterligare genom ytterligare denna tunna-tester. Detta är ett nödvändigt steg för att göra mot de höga volymer tillverknings standarder som krävs för Mass produktion.
