Abstract:
It is vital that subjects such as the circular economy, sustainable design, green computing or environmental engineering be included in the engineering curriculum. Education for sustainable development will enable engineers to develop sustainable products and provide sustainable services, thereby leading to a beneficial result for society and making an indispensable contribution to the Sustainable Development Goals achievement. As the last stage for students in academia, Degree Theses (Bachelor’s and Master’s) provide a good tool for reviewing the sustainability competencies developed during the degree, as well as being an opportunity for applying these competencies in a holistic way. In their Degree Theses, students should be able to demonstrate that they are aware of the need to introduce and assess sustainability in their future engineering projects. This paper presents a guide aimed at helping engineering students to design and develop sustainable projects, and analyzes the first results of its use in two schools of the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya—BarcelonaTech. The proposal is based on a tool referred to as “the Sustainability Matrix”, in which cells contain questions that engineering students should take into account when undertaking their Degree Theses. The questions are related to the project development, the project exploitation and the possible risks involved, three aspects in accordance with the sustainability dimensions (economic, environmental and social). The Sustainability Matrix helps students to develop sustainable projects when they graduate, and teachers to assess how sustainability is incorporated across the curriculum in the subjects they teach and in the students’ Degree Theses.

Abstract:
It is imperative to construct high-level, innovative and challenging courses in the teaching of colleges and universities. It is also of great significance to explore innovative teaching methods for improving students’ learning effect. In this paper, the course “Civil Engineering Construction” of a civil engineering major is taken as a reform example. In this teaching-innovation mode, guided by students’ moral education and students’ achievements, and the course platform is built in order to achieve the education concept of sustainable development and cultivate applied talents who can solve complex problems in civil engineering. In teaching practice, “Dual Platforms”, which combines course teaching platform and virtual simulation platform, is built mainly to expand the learning approaches. The “Three Educations” mode, which combines on-site education, classroom education, and mental health education, is established to improve the comprehensive quality of students. Comprehensive academic evaluation is carried out through “Four Reports”, including an open assignment report, special technical study report, BIM (building information modeling) technical work report, and final comprehensive written test report. Through studying this course, students not only master the knowledge of civil engineering construction, but also acquire knowledge-innovation ability, such as thesis publication, patent writing, discipline competition, and cultivating the craftsman spirit and social responsibility to abide by professional ethics in future work. This teaching innovation mode has been implemented for 12 years and achieved excellent results in cultivating students’ intelligent ability for sustainable development. It has been promoted in 14 courses, and has certain reference significance for engineering-course teaching.

The following paper aims to test and evaluate the accuracy of UAV data for volumetric measurements to the conventional GNSS techniques. For this purpose, an appropriate open pit quarry has been chosen. Two sets of measurements were performed. Firstly, a stockpile was measured by GNSS technologies and later other terrestrial GNSS measurements for modelling the berms of the quarry were taken. Secondly, the area of the whole quarry including the stockpile site was mapped by a UAV flight. Having considered how dynamic our world is, new techniques and methods should be presented in numerous fields. For instance, the management of an open pit quarry requires gaining, processing and storing a large amount of information which is constantly changing with time. Fast and precise acquisition of measurements regarding the process taking place in a quarry is the key to an effective and stable maintenance. In other words, this means getting an objective evaluations of the processes, using up-to-date technologies and reliable accuracy of the results. Often legislations concerning mine engineering state that the volumetric calculations are to present ±3% accuracy of the whole amount. On one hand, extremely precise measurements could be performed by GNSS technologies, however, it could be really time consuming. On the other hand, UAV photogrammetry presents a fast, accurate method for mapping large areas and calculating stockpiles volumes. The study case was performed as a part of a master thesis.

Abstract:
Collective supervision has become a common way to provide supervision at schools of higher education. This is also true for the supervision of master’s thesis students on the Master’s Programme, Security Risk Management at the University of Copenhagen. Based on experiences with collective supervision of master thesis students, this paper engages with the many understandings of feedback and learning in play in the teaching situation. In the scholarly literature, features such as multivoicedness, dialogue, process- and student-orientation are empha-sized when addressing collective supervision. Yet, our findings show a clash of expectations between a majority of the students (and supervisors) and these ide-als of collective supervision. Indeed, many students still believe feedback should be troubleshooting and product-oriented. In the final part of the paper we out-line a handful of ideas on how to improve future collective supervision to explicit-ly address the gap between expectations and conceptions of good feedback.

Abstract:
The article discusses peculiarities of teaching a professional foreign language to masters of engineering profile and draws the need to use authentic texts in the process of preparing students for scientific research. Building skills of analytical work with authentic texts is considered to be one of the principal means of masters’ professional training, and the problem of text selection and competent organization of working with it is becoming a key target when teaching to read. The main selection criterion is a professionally relevant authentic text containing new and important information for master students as such texts stimulate learners’ language activity. The information provided may become the material to analyze in the theoretical part of master thesis, to write a scientific article, to prepare conference presentation, etc. Working with authentic texts requires hard work but contributes to the development of skills to find and critically process information, consider the foreign engineering experience, independently set and solve scientific problems, develop scientific methods (comparative, analytical, phenomenological, etc.). Competent organization of classroom and individual work of master students with authentic texts is the basis for effective learning.

Abstract:
Materials engineering involves knowledge of the fundamental physics, chemistry and engineering of materials in order to elaborate, develop, and use materials with superior and new properties. The research, development and applications of materials are the major reasons behind the availability, cost reduction, innovations and improvements in all the fields of industry. Master's programs are designed to give you a solid (strong) education in the materials engineering field. Students entering a Master program have already earned a bachelor's degree and have solid acquirement of engineering. The program entails coursework, examinations and an internship or other applied experience. A master report is required to obtain the masters degree based on the researches during the stage. During a Master programme the students learn to approach complex issues from the perspective of different disciplines such as: characterisation of materials, thermodynamics, structurals transformations, technology of materials, properties of surfaces or initiation on research methods. By understanding the properties of materials, materials engineers create new materials with desired properties. Students entering a Ph.D. program have already earned a a masters degree in the field of „Materials engineering". Because of the nature of specialization the Ph.D. program tends to be smaller than master program. The international orientation of the practice stage approaches to of the Erasmus mobilites. A Ph.D. typically demonstrates a person's competence in research. Ph.D. students begin by taking courses and exams, go on to taking advanced seminars and preparing dissertation research. To complete their knowledges, they are continuing by researching, writing and completeing a dissertation thesis. The doctoral-level thesis, is the culmination of a Ph.D. candidate's research into a topic and is the major requirement of earning the doctorate. A doctoral degree is obviously a more advanced degree. However, it is long. Depending on the program, a PhD could take 4-8 years to complete. A PhD programs entails 3 years of coursework and a dissertation. During this these years the independent researchs projects are designed to cover new knowledge in your field and to be of publishable quality. Doctoral study offers the unique opportunity for an individual to develope intensive and prolonged research on a particular topic, which often leads to publication. The present paper presents the association of Romanian and French university teachers to educate students to prepare a Master diploma and to continue with cotutelle doctoral studies in the field of materials engineering.

Kata Kunci: Pembelajar Bahasa kedua, Kesalahan tata Bahasa, Abstract In writing English, second language learners often make errors due to the lack of mastering English or insufficient knowledge about English. The purpose of the research is to look at varieties of second language learners' grammatical errors. In this research, the primary data used are samples from 50 theses abstracts that come from the students of Economics Faculty, magisterial management program of Diponegoro University, which the writer took randomly. The data is analyzed using the surface structure taxonomy, namely omission, addition, misformation, and misordering. They are using Brook's opinion, saying that there are four common reasons for the error made by second language learners. The research shows that the most significant number of mistakes is concerned with misformation. The other errors belong to omission, addition, and misordering, respectively. Besides, their errors are caused mainly by first language interference and overgeneralization; Brook mentions these two reasons. (Ellis, 1993: 159.) This visual essay shows the relationship between urban analysis and the use of archival images. Firstly, the research process for the realization of this work will be explained, in which photography is an important tool to understand the urban morphology and help to complete and document the theoretical part of my master thesis Inhabiting Water, Public Wash-houses of Oporto: an experience of women in modern city (2020) - which is a theoretical-practical work. Secondly, the historical dimension of the public wash-houses construction will be discussed, showing the invisibility of women in urban and public space - and in the history of urbanism. This invisibility has motivated the search for areas related to the experience of women in the modern city (19th and 20th centuries), assuming that wash-houses are an observatory of urban hospitality (Perrot 1997, 160) and also of women’s practices on the territory. We will see that, in the contemporary urban space, the wash-houses are abandoned and form a network of places in the city. These ruins are potential cultural facilities to be brought out of oblivion. The photographic work carried out during the master thesis took shape in an interactive map (https://maphub.net/chldmn/lavoirspublicsporto) that shows a selection of photographs from 1940 - with women in red to identify their presence in the washhouses - and photographs taken during the summer of 2020. The integration of these wash-houses in the Oporto Water Heritage Park, protected by the UNESCO Global Network of Water Museums, is one of the outcomes of this research.

Service Science, Management and Engineering (SSME) is an emerging discipline which studies service industry under an integrated framework. SSME education trains scientists and skilled service workers to promote innovation and productivity in service industry. Although quite a number of universities started SSME programs years ago, most of them are still in the stage of experiment, and only address a small portion of the total subject. This paper first discusses the objectives of SSME education program—the abilities that service workers and scientists should have. Then, three types of foundation courses of the current programs are discussed in depth; the bachelor, master and PhD degree programs offered currently are analyzed, which include the course contents and teaching methods. Based on the inspirations from these practical programs, a unified model for SSME education is developed and presented, which proposes to unify bachelor, master and PhD programs, and establishes a new service science department comprising areas of service management, service engineering and design, service arts and humanities.

In architecture, landscape architecture, and urban design, entangled multiscale and multidomain, or compound, sustainability problems and associated design requirements are becoming rapidly more demanding, complex, and interdisciplinary due to demographic, social, economic, environmental, and technological changes. This places considerable pressure on developing adequate pedagogical approaches to provide the next generation of architects, landscape architects, and urban designers with the knowledge, approaches, and skills to meet these challenges. This article discusses an attempt to develop an adequate pedagogy for a research-integrated master-level design studio along a multimethod approach. Key concepts, approaches, and methods are discussed, along with selected studio projects and a follow-up master thesis project. The projects are examined in terms of their responses to the themes, concepts, approaches, and methods of the pedagogical approach. Finally, further questions concerning the development of the portrayed pedagogical approach are discussed.

Abstract:
The article discusses the relationship of economic management with the economic basis. The thesis is substantiated that effective economic management depends on economic ideal, to which society will strive to achieve. The world surrounding a person constantly retains its essential fundamental properties. And in this way it is perfect. Man spiritually assumes himself above nature. Potentially, he sees himself as a master of the natural world. However, acting in nature as an independent free force, he constantly reveals his imperfect. Because of his limited knowledge of the infinitely complex nature, everything that a person creates is imperfect. The path to perfection is the natural goal of man’s life on earth. However, on this common path, all nations and their large groups – civilizations – are moving along different roads. And in modern conditions, these differences have reached a dangerous feature – more and more the confrontation of civilizations is emerging. The historical feature of the Russian economic worldview is the absolute priority of moral ideals. Its deep economic ideals are not aggressive in relation to other countries and peoples. These ideals are in finding and multiplying of good. Therefore, potentially, Russia can counteract the negative scenario of the development of civilizational conflicts.

Abstract:
Faculty of Management, Tribhuvan University's Master of Business Studies level is not fully based on a research course that's why for many students thesis writing task is being the first attempt in their academic life. This study aims to determine students' satisfaction with the training cum workshop programme on their thesis writing and general research skills development and to assess the model that determines general satisfaction with the programme. Results showed that the participants are only satisfied to some extent with the training cum workshop programme. It was discovered that students show their disagreement on time allocated for every session, about following the time schedule by resource persons, resource persons’ use of practical ways, examples, and exercises in the session. However, they felt the method of thesis format, American Psychological Association styles of citation, and referencing are useful and the programme is going to help them more productively in near future. The step-wise regression model has also been used to set the model. The fitted model has been found to be significant. The model adequacy test has also been performed which shows the data satisfied the assumption of multicollinearity, normality of residuals, and homoscedasticity while no outliers were identified. The study between trained students and non-trained students' perceptions after the completion of their dissertation work can be carried out by future research. Likewise, a longitudinal study before the programme and after the thesis work can be performed in this area too.

Abstract:
The study is devoted to one of Leo Tolstoy's later short stories, Master and Man [Khozyain i rabotnik]. The article traces its links to other ‘stories for the people,' describes its reception by Tolstoy's contemporaries and deals with the problem of the artistic and didactic agenda that was so relevant for Tolstoy. The authors also examine Tolstoy's preliminary drafts. The article contains an exhaustive analysis of the two main characters, their relationship and correspondence with time and space, daily routine and abstract existence. Tolstoy is presented as a pioneer of methods typical of 20th-c. literary Modernism, which were utilised by A. Bely, A. Remizov, and V. Nabokov. According to the scholars, the story offers an unequivocal illustration of the main thesis of Tolstoy's later religious and philosophical outlook that the material world is a false and illusory form of life, while true life is only achievable through spiritual being.

Abstract:
This master thesis contains a detailed research on a specific social problem-the poor waste management and consequently the extreme pollution of urban environment. By targeting a specific region, the municipality of Karposh with its citizens, and through the use of all 5 phases of “Design with social impact” methodology, we were able to come up with promising ideas and solutions for this problem. The first phase set the baseline for a general review of the magnitude of the social problem and evaluated citizens' opinions regarding the issue. This stage aimed to achieve initial understanding of the problem, empathizing with the citizens in order to look at the problem from their aspect through in-depth exploration of different aspects using several creative techniques. In the second phase, the analysis continues with a comprehensive research, the results of which were presented in the form of statistics on waste in the world and in our country, finding successful examples from other countries on the management of these issues. All the aforementioned information identified the main causes for the worrying status-quo and defined the exact goal of the thesis. Furthermore, the third phase generated several concept ideas as possible solutions to the given problem. The final concept, chosen for realization, was the idea of a web portal aimed at educating and informing the citizens in order to raise awareness of the necessity of a more serious approach towards waste management issues in urban areas. As a result, a web portal prototype was developed in the fourth phase in accordance with the set goals and requirements based on the information gathered in the previous stages. The portal was available online and it was reviewed by many concerned citizens who provided comments and suggestions for its improvement. Currently, the fifth phase is in the process of realization.

Abstract:
The universal Turing Machine (TM) is a model for Von Neumann computers — general-purpose computers. A human brain, linked with its biological body, can inside-skull-autonomously learn a universal TM so that he acts as a general-purpose computer and writes a computer program for any practical purposes. It is unknown whether a robot can accomplish the same. This theoretical work shows how the Developmental Network (DN), linked with its robot body, can accomplish this. Unlike a traditional TM, the TM learned by DN is a super TM — Grounded, Emergent, Natural, Incremental, Skulled, Attentive, Motivated, and Abstractive (GENISAMA). A DN is free of any central controller (e.g., Master Map, convolution, or error back-propagation). Its learning from a teacher TM is one transition observation at a time, immediate, and error-free until all its neurons have been initialized by early observed teacher transitions. From that point on, the DN is no longer error-free but is always optimal at every time instance in the sense of maximal likelihood, conditioned on its limited computational resources and the learning experience. This paper extends the Church–Turing thesis to a stronger version — a GENISAMA TM is capable of Autonomous Programming for General Purposes (APFGP) — and proves both the Church–Turing thesis and its stronger version.
