Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:
On May 13, 1985, the City of Philadelphia bombed the home of the radical black organization MOVE that was founded by John Africa in 1972. The military-style attack killed 11 occupants of the house, including 5 children, and destroyed almost two square blocks of a residential neighborhood, rendering 250 men, women and children homeless. In the midst of both contemporary protests responding to excessive police violence against African Americans and the military’s use of drone airpower, “Black Media Matters” returns our attention to the 1987 documentary, The Bombing of Osage Avenue, produced and directed by Louis Massiah, written and narrated by Toni Cade Bambara. Drawing on the archives of both Massiah and Bambara, this essay explores the film as a model of a media response to black political protest, death and suffering that resists spectacularization and oversimplification, and instead fosters historical awareness and critical reflection.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Background: The use of cytokine-blocking agents has been proposed to modulate the inflammatory response in patients with COVID-19. Tocilizumab and anakinra were included in the local protocol as an optional treatment in critically ill patients with acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) by SARS-CoV-2 infection. This cohort study evaluated the effects of therapy with cytokine blocking agents on in-hospital mortality in COVID-19 patients requiring mechanical ventilation and admitted to intensive care unit. Methods: The association between therapy with tocilizumab or anakinra and in-hospital mortality was assessed in consecutive adult COVID-19 patients admitted to our ICU with moderate to severe ARDS. The association was evaluated by comparing patients who received to those who did not receive tocilizumab or anakinra and by using different multivariable Cox models adjusted for variables related to poor outcome, for the propensity to be treated with tocilizumab or anakinra and after patient matching. Results: Sixty-six patients who received immunotherapy (49 tocilizumab, 17 anakinra) and 28 patients who did not receive immunotherapy were included. The in-hospital crude mortality was 30,3% in treated patients and 50% in nontreated (OR 0.77, 95% CI 0.56-1.05, p=0.069). The adjusted Cox model showed an association between therapy with immunotherapy and in-hospital mortality (HR 0.40, 95% CI 0.19-0.83, p=0.015). This protective effect was further confirmed in the analysis adjusted for propensity score, in the propensity-matched cohort and in the cohort of patients with invasive mechanical ventilation within 2 hours after ICU admission. Conclusions: Although important limitations, our study showed that cytokine-blocking agents seem to be safe and to improve survival in COVID-19 patients admitted to ICU with ARDS and the need for mechanical ventilation. *Modena Covid-19 Working Group (MoCo19): Intensive Care Unit: Massimo Girardis, Alberto Andreotti, Emanuela Biagioni, Filippo Bondi, Stefano Busani, Giovanni Chierego, Marzia Scotti, Lucia Serio, Annamaria Ghirardini, Marco Sita, Stefano De Julis, Lara Donno, Lorenzo Dall’Ara, Fabrizio Di Salvo, Carlotta Farinelli, Laura Rinaldi, Ilaria Cavazzuti, Andrea Ghidoni, Antonio Buono, Elena Ferrari, Daniela Iseppi, Anna Maria Ardito, Irene Coloretti, Sophie Venturelli, Elena Munari, Martina Tosi, Erika Roat, Ilenia Gatto, Marco Sarti.Immuno-Lab: Andrea Cossarizza, Caterina Bellinazzi, Rebecca Borella, Sara De Biasi, Anna De Gaetano, Lucia Fidanza, Lara Gibellini, Anna Iannone, Domenico Lo Tartaro, Marco Mattioli, Milena Nasi, Annamaria Paolini, Marcello Pinti. Abstract:
Currently, civil procedure legal science in the world begins to study the application of fair procedural rights. Meanwhile, Vietnamese civil procedure legal science seems to pay attention to the proceedings instead of the procedural rights. In this context, the paper examines the application of rights of due process around the world and in Vietnam. From there, the author suggests a number of appropriate orientations in this area that Vietnam should apply in the near future in order to match the trend in the world and the reality of Vietnam. Full text
Abstract:
Chapter four critically reviews the anti-capitalist literature on the commons, comprising of various interpretations of Marx’s work, among others. The first section investigates the relation of the political and the common in a broad spectrum of continental political philosophy, including ‘post-hegemony’ notably Ernesto Laclau and Chantal Mouffe and the autonomous Marxist tradition (Michael Hardt and Toni Negri) in the context of Alexandros Kioupkiolis’s critique who points to the crowding out of the self-instituting power of the people in several Marxist and post-Marxist interpretations of the common. The second section focuses on the work of Pierre Dardot and Christian Laval who have reintroduced the self-instituting power of the people in political discourse as the essential concept of ‘the common’. The third section illustrates a more concrete version of the common, articulated in the Katharine Gibson and Julie Graham’s work, who sketch out the philosophical and empirical preconditions of a community economy. The fourth section deals with the concept of the common as the self-instituting power of the people to introduce variants of autonomous Marxism, ranging from post-capitalism to anti-capitalism. Lastly, the fifth section examines the conception of the common in the context of autonomous and classical Marxist views . Authors discussed include Nick Dyer-Witheford, Massimo De Angelis, George Caffentzis, Silvia Federici, Slavoj Žižek, Jodi Dean, David Harvey, Paul Mason and Christian Fuchs. The author concludes that a set of policies could be integrated into a holistic, post-hegemonic strategy for a post-capitalist, commons-orientated transition drawing also on some reformist perspectives.

Abstract:
Arvanitika is a threatened language that is spoken in very few areas of Greece. Greece's Arvanitika -speaking communities, scattered in suburban areas, mainly in southern mainland and island Greece. These were founded in the Late Middle Ages during the Byzantine and Frankish conquest of Ottoman rule in the Southern Balkans, and merged with the new Greek nation by virtue of the Greek Orthodox faith and the struggle for liberation toward the Turks. Arvanitika is a branch of the South Albanian Tosk dialect characterized by a phenomenon of pidginization from Greek of various historical periods. During the period of language isolation, language contact with the official Albanian language was followed by massive Albanian migration to Greece in the early 1990s. The era of Albanian immigration finds the Arvanitika language, a low-status language, in a phase of linguistic change and transition from bilingual (Arvanitika-Greek) to the monolingual (Greek) situation mainly by the younger generations, where the Arvanitika communities remain in a phase of urbanization. The need to delineate the Arvanitika language from the official Albanian language and the negotiation of their ethnic identity leads the Arvanitika-speakers to a symbolic affirmation of difference between the two languages. In recent years, there has been a growing interest in language recording and salvage, especially at the folklore level with the revival of traditions. The present paper is a linguistic autoethnography that focuses on the participation of the referent person in a documentary film about an Arvanitika village, in which she plays a dual role, that of the researcher, and as well as of the indigenous community member, in attempting to negotiate between science and domestic linguistic ideologies.

"Hanging Screen Evaluation to Unlock Marginal Sandy Reservoir: Case Study of Peciko Gas Field, Indonesia." In SPE/IATMI Asia Pacific Oil & Gas Conference and Exhibition. SPE, 2021. http://dx.doi.org/10.2118/205790-ms.

Full text
Abstract:
Abstract Peciko Field currently produces gas from multilayer sand-prone shallow reservoirs. Therefore, it needs sand control method to unlock these marginal reservoirs through low-cost intervention. Hanging screen has been reviewed as an alternative solution to minimize sand control cost while maintaining its robustness to maximize the recovery. This paper will present and evaluate the hanging screen installation and performance from subsurface to surface elements in Peciko field. Hanging screen implementation in Peciko will be evaluated in terms of ease of installation to its performance during production phase. Peciko wells are equipped with real-time monitoring system including Acoustic Sand Detector. Therefore, sand problems could be easily identified. Any indication of screen failure will be confirmed by checking the surface equipment like chokes and intrusive probes. Further intervention to retrieve the screen and perform visual check at surface can be executed to extend the verification. Filter size, placement method, clean-up, and sand sieve result will be gathered to identify the root cause and determine the best method to apply hanging screen as reliable sand control method. Nine installations in 2019 conclude that screen plugging, liquid loading, and combination of both are main issues in production phase. With three plugging cases from well Fx and E2x, it was found that excessive drawdown pressure triggers high gas velocity in perforation tunnel and causing excessive sand production that plugged the screen. These cases also prove that self-unloading by choke movement can lead to plugging if the drawdown pressure and gas rate are not monitored carefully. Commingle production in Ax becomes an issue in lifting performance when reservoir pressure declines and liquid was produced from several reservoirs. Limiting drawdown pressure gives smaller gas rate to lift the liquid and make the well died from liquid loading easily. Massive sand production in well E2x and E2y cause an increase in Top of Sediment (TOS) and lead to inaccessible screen even with multiple bailing attempts. A series of screen design, choke configuration, proper clean-up and continuous monitoring are critical steps to be performed prior and after screen installation to maintain production lifetime. With average stakes of 0.2 Bcf per well, hanging screen has proven to produce 67% of the well reserves in shallow reservoirs. This value creation led to the conclusion that hanging screen is an economically-feasible-sand control method to be implemented in Peciko.
