Abstract:
Background: sage is a form of touch therapy that functions as an important treatment technique that has been known for a long time. In the community, the role of baby massage is still held by traditional birth attendants. Even though baby massage has great benefits for babies, many mothers don't massage their babies independently. The implementation of baby massage is done when their baby is sick or fussy, and as a routine for baby care after birth. Objectives: The purpose of this study was to describe the mother's experience about massaging her baby in Sumberejo Village, Trucuk District, Bojonegoro Regency. Methods: The design in this study uses qualitative research. The selected participants are mothers who have toddlers under the age of 1 year with a total of 10 participants. Participants were taken using purposive sampling technique. Location and Time The research was conducted in the village of Sumberejo, Trucuk District, Bojonegoro Regency. The time of the study was carried out in May-July 2021. The research instrument used in this study was an interview result sheet. Results: Participants in this study amounted to 10 people who were selected based on inclusion criteria. There are 5 themes that have been concluded, namely (1) an overview of baby massage (2) when the baby should be massaged (3) where the mother massages the baby (4) the baby's response after being massaged (5) how often the mother massages her baby. Conclusion: The results showed that more mothers massaged their babies to traditional birth attendants than to professionals and the baby's response after massage was more comfortable and less fussy.

Abstract:
This narrative review on the massage therapy literature from the years 2020 to 2023 includes 49 studies. Many of these are focused on massage reducing prenatal depression and anxiety, increasing brain maturation in preterm neonates and on reducing jaundice in full-term newborns. Pediatric massage research has been focused on cerebral palsy and adult research on arthritis pain. Studies on older adults include the reduction of anxiety and depression in victims of stroke, Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s. Other studies found positive effects of self-massage as well as couples’ massage that suggests that both the massager and “massagee” experience reduced stress. Surprisingly, most of the entries in the literature have been proposed protocols for studies and only one has involved potential underlying mechanisms for the positive effects of massage therapy.

Abstract:
Classical and sports massages are commonly used interventions, but their comparative effects on muscle stiffness remain unclear. Classical massage is more general and uses light to moderate pressure, and its main purpose is relaxation. Sports massage, on the other hand, is more specialized and targets the unique needs of massaged individuals using moderate to firm pressure. This study aimed to evaluate the impacts of classical and sports massages on the stiffness of the erector spinae (ES) and upper trapezius (UT) muscles. Fifteen recreationally active young women, aged 22.9 ± 1.2 years, underwent a randomized cross-over study (with three conditions). Participants received either a five-minute classical or sports massage or a passive rest as a control on distinct days. Muscle stiffness was assessed using shear-wave elastography. The ES shear modulus displayed a significant time effect (p < 0.001; η2 = 0.515) without noticeable differences between the conditions, and the time × massage-type interactions approached statistical significance (F = 2.014; p = 0.073). There was also a large and statistically significant effect of the time on the UT (F = 11.127; p < 0.001; η2 = 0.443). We could not prove that classical and sports massages reduced muscle stiffness. The absence of significant differences might be attributed to the specific intervention parameters (massage duration of 5 min) and the small, only young women sample size. Given some tendencies towards significant effects, larger sample sizes are needed to further investigate this research question.

Abstract:
Context: Roller massagers are used as a recovery and rehabilitative tool to initiate muscle relaxation and improve range of motion (ROM) and muscular performance. However, research demonstrating such effects is lacking. Objective: To determine the effects of applying a roller massager for 20 and 60 seconds on knee-joint ROM and dynamic muscular performance. Design: Randomized controlled clinical trial. Setting: University laboratory. Patients or Other Participants: Ten recreationally active men (age = 26.6 ± 5.2 years, height = 175.3 ± 4.3 cm, mass = 84.4 ± 8.8 kg). Intervention(s): Participants performed 3 randomized experimental conditions separated by 24 to 48 hours. In condition 1 (5 repetitions of 20 seconds) and condition 2 (5 repetitions of 60 seconds), they applied a roller massager to the quadriceps muscles. Condition 3 served as a control condition in which participants sat quietly. Main Outcome Measure(s): Visual analog pain scale, electromyography (EMG) of the vastus lateralis (VL) and biceps femoris during roller massage and lunge, and knee-joint ROM. Results: We found no differences in pain between the 20-second and 60-second roller-massager conditions. During 60 seconds of roller massage, pain was 13.5% (5.7 ± 0.70) and 20.6% (6.2 ± 0.70) greater at 40 seconds and 60 seconds, respectively, than at 20 seconds (P < .05). During roller massage, VL and biceps femoris root mean square (RMS) EMG was 8% and 7%, respectively, of RMS EMG recorded during maximal voluntary isometric contraction. Knee-joint ROM was 10% and 16% greater in the 20-second and 60-second roller-massager conditions, respectively, than the control condition (P < .05). Finally, average lunge VL RMS EMG decreased as roller-massage time increased (P < .05). Conclusions: Roller massage was painful and induced muscle activity, but it increased knee-joint ROM and neuromuscular efficiency during a lunge.

Abstract:
Introduction: The ocular blood flow (OBF) is responsible for supplying nutrition to the retina, which plays a fundamental role in visual function. Massage is expected to improve the blood flow and, consequently, vascular function. The aim of this study was to determine the shortterm and long-term effects of periocular massage on OBF and visual acuity. Methods: The OBF and visual acuity were measured in 40 healthy adults aged 20–30 years before and after massage, and also in control subjects. Three massage methods were used: applying periocular acupressure (“Chinese eye exercise”: CE), using a facial massage roller (MR), and using an automated eye massager (AM). The OBF and visual acuity were first measured before and after applying each type of massage for 5 min. Eye massage was then applied for 5 min once daily over a 60-day period, while the control group received no massage. The same measurements were then performed again. Results: Performing short-term periocular massage showed significant interactions in time and massage effects on visual acuity in CE and AM groups, and on OBF in AM group, while 60-day massage period exerted no significant effects. No significant relationship was found between OBF and visual acuity changes. Conclusions: These results suggest that short-term periocular massage with Chinese eye exercise and automated eye massager can improve OBF and visual acuity, although no causal relationship was supported.

Abstract:
Goodmans systematiska metod användes i modifierad form.
The aim of this literature review was to examine if there is scientific evidence that massage relieves pain. The study focused on cancer- and back pain and the use of massage as a nursing intervention and alternative/complementary method for pain relief under these specific conditions. The systematic method by Goodman was used in a modified version. The review is based on nine scientific articles where the result shows that there is insufficient scientific evidence for the use of massage as an alternative/complementary method for pain relief among patients with cancer- and back pain. Massage can, however, possibly be used as a short term nursing intervention to cancerpatients with pain. Further research about massage as a method for relieving pain is required if it is to be used within healthcare in the future.

Abstract:
Electromagnetic pulse massage mimics the current signal of human nerve fibers by conducting a weak current to the deeper layers of the skin, which makes the muscle fibers contract and imitates massage techniques such as pounding and kneading, thus achieving a relaxing effect on the cervical spine. Wearing stability of such products largely affects the effectiveness and comfort of massage. This paper aims to investigate the wearing stability and influencing factors of electromagnetic pulse neck massagers. Three representative neck massagers were used for testing, and subjective ratings of fit were collected from 58 participants (29 males, 29females), along with measurements of wearing slipping distance and neck dimensions. The results showed that females wore the neck massager significantly more loosely than males and had a longer slipping distance of 10.256mm. Moreover, the correlation analysis indicated that the wearing fit was strongly correlated with Middle Neck Width (MNW), moderately correlated with Middle Neck Girth (MNG), weakly correlated with Root Neck Girth (RNG) and Front Neck Length (FNL), which was a guideline for the design of size and grading for neck massages.

Abstract:
This study aimed to analyze the effect of massage on mental mechanisms by using electroencephalography (EEG) before, during, and after massage. The patient was placed in a supine position and received a massage from both an expert physical therapist, with 20 years experiences, and a person with no experience in therapeutic massage. EEG was recorded before, during, and after the massage. The portion of the body given the massage was only the left-side plantar arch, and the massage method was finger pressure applied by the thumb. The massage given by the expert evident alpha waves after massage. In contrast, the massage given by the inexperienced person did not induce any alpha changes. In this study, a massage from an inexperienced person did not change alpha activity before, during, or after the massage. Accordingly, the appearance of an alpha wave after massage is thought to correspond to the level of arousal of the patient gradually decreasing after massage—an indication that the patient had had a comfortable experience. In this study, it is suggested that a massage given by an expert physical therapist promotes emotional stability.

Abstract:
ABSTRACT Background: Exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months of life is recommended by the World Health Organization and United Nations Children’s Fund. The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends exclusive breastfeeding for up to 6 months and continuous breastfeeding for up to 2 months. Exclusive breastfeeding is the most effective intervention to reduce infant mortality. It is estimated that it can prevent 13% of under-five mortality in low-income countries. This study aimed to analyze the difference in breastmilk volume before and after the mother received the oxytocin massage using innovative massage tool and conventional effleurage techniques. Subjects and Methods: This was a quasi-experiment study with a non-randomized control trial pretest-posttest design was conducted in Kediri from August to September 2020. The sample used was post-partum women on days 4 to 10 using purposive sampling technique. The dependent variable was amount of breast milk production. The independent variables were oxytocin massage treatment with effleurage technique, and the combination of oxytocin massage, effleurage technique and innovation massage tool. The data was analyzed by T-Test. Results: In the oxytocin massage treatment group used the conventional Effleurage method (Mean = 42; SD = 29) while in the massage treatment group using an innovative massage tool (Mean = 60; SD = 51) this was very different in the control group (Mean = 3.4; SD = 8.8) and it was statistically significant (p= 0.005). Conclusion: Giving oxytocin massage using an innovative massage device were higher than oxytocin massage using the conventional Effleurage method and massage using this innovative massage device had a statistical impact on increasing breast milk production Keywords: oxytocin massage, breast milk production, innovative massage tool Correspondence: Nining Istighosah. Marinova, Denka. "TRADITIONAL CHINESE MASSAGЕ (TUINA) FOR CHRONIC NECK PAIN." In INTERNATIONAL SCIENTIFIC CONGRESS “APPLIED SPORTS SCIENCES”. Scientific Publishing House NSA Press, 2022. http://dx.doi.org/10.37393/icass2022/154.

Abstract:
ABSTRACT Chronic neck pain is something common which can be hard to treat. There is limited evidence for the efficiency of differ-ent alternative therapies. This research aimed to assess the efficiency of the traditional Chinese massage on the range of motion and intensity of pain in the cervical area of the spinal column. Objects and methods: 38 patients with chronic neck pain were randomly divided into experimental and control groups. The control group performed only controlled therapeutic exercises. The patients from the experimental group were subjected to ten Chinese therapeutic massages and therapeutic exercises twice a week. The range of motion in the neck was assessed with a universal goniometer for flexion, potations, and lateral flexion. The intensity of the pain was assessed with the visual-analogical scale. At the end of the research, we found statistically significant, better results in the EG in the left rotation (58,4° ± 2°), right rotation (54,4° ± 2,1°), right lateral flexion (32,6° ± 4,7°), and left lateral flexion (37,2° ± 5,6°), with a statistical significance level (p < .05). Tracing the dynamics in the pain symptoms showed a reduction in the pain in both groups of patients, with a significant downward trend in the experimental group. Conclusion: Traditional Chinese massagе alleviates pain symptoms and relaxes the increased muscle tone, which leads to an increase in the range of motion in the neck area. Compared to routine physiotherapy, the Chinese massage methods has a proven effect on the traced indicators.

Abstract:
Review question / Objective: To evaluate current clinical evidence status of massage chair and to present evidence map for future research implication. Background: A massage chair is a furniture-type device such as a sofa or bed which provides automated massage using installed rollers and airbags. Although the market is growing and the number of users is increasing, its clinical evidence of the benefit and harm has not been clearly established yet. Because it is accepted like a furniture not a medical devices, its use is not controlled by medical personnel like other medical devices, so there is a need to pay attention to safety issues and effectiveness in terms of individual health promotion. This scoping review will assess the current evidence status of massage chair and present clinical research agenda in future.

Abstract:
Review question / Objective: With changes in lifestyle and rhythm, chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) is becoming increasingly common in the population. Many randomized controlled clinical studies have shown that acupoint massage has significant advantages in improving symptoms such as fatigue. However, there is no systematic review and meta-analysis published on the treatment of chronic fatigue syndrome with acupoint massage, which is worthy of our team's research. Condition being studied: Chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) is characterized by persistent or recurrent conscious fatigue, accompanied by accompanying symptoms such as sleep disorders, subjective cognitive impairment, or diffuse muscle and bone pain. Its symptoms usually persist for six months or more, and fatigue cannot be relieved after rest. The average prevalence of CFS in the global general population ranges from 1.40 to 1.57%. However, the impact of acupoint massage on chronic vibration fatigue syndrome is still controversial. Therefore, a current systematic review and meta-analysis will be conducted to investigate the role of acupoint massage in the management of chronic fatigue syndrome.
