It’s a big deal when the library world gets in the national news. I mean, it doesn’t happen every day. And usually, when it does, the news is not positive. This summer, the children’s library world burst into the national news—and into swift social media discussion—with the ALSC board’s unanimous decision to change the name of the Laura Ingalls Wilder Award to the Children’s Literature Legacy Award.

Abstract:
Media scholars as well as the public frequently use the terms “mass communication” and “mass media”, but the meaning of these terms is often ambiguous. While it is assumed that everyone knows what these terms mean, the few scholars who attempt to define these terms struggle to capture the essence of their meaning without including elements that are faulty, and this task is becoming even more difficult in the new media environment. We are left with the troubling question: What are the “mass” media? This review constructs an answer to this question in a four step process. The first step features a critical analysis of the literature to identify definitional elements used by scholars. These definitional elements are subjected to four screens that evaluate their utility in a second step. The third step adds elements missing from the literature so as to make the eventual definition more useful in the new media environment. Finally, the fourth step features the construction of a working definition of “mass” media.

Abstract:
This article deals with general and specific aspects of how Romanian media covered the African swine flu crisis between 2014 and 2018. The analysis was mainly based on the available ground of media framing theory. The mediatic tone of reporting the African swine flu predicament complies with the pre-crisis, crisis, and post-crisis stages, as identified in the literature. Concerning the Romanian media approach on the African swine flu subject, the economic consequences and the mediatic leadership frames proved to be strongly related to similar inter-human and zoonotic diseases. The Romanian coverage of epizootics' main frames indicates a detached approach to the subject with exciting variations regarding the connections between information units and the general norms of mediatic content. This research suggests a few remarkable aspects that hint at current changes in the journalistic paradigm and the need to acknowledge crisis communication's significance when dealing with epizootic diseases.

Abstract:
This article aims to see the changing characteristics and role of journalism as a new media. The rapid development of technology encourages all parties to move forward, including the mass media. Over time, various conventional mass media companies such as print media began to turn to online media as a means of reporting. Apart from news portals with big names, there are currently many independent news portals or individuals who choose to share information through social media accounts. The problem is focused on how journalists pay attention to the code of ethics in reporting information in the realm of social media. The data were collected through the document study method or literature review and non-participant observation. With literature review, the author takes references and examples from books that are relevant to the research title. The data that has been obtained were analyzed qualitatively. This study concludes that in online media, the writing style is more rigid and similar to conventional media such as newspapers. Meanwhile, in new media, the writing style looks more flexible and the journalist's perspective or personal view on the issues being reported is often more visible.

Abstract:
Balinese language as the mother tongue of the Balinese people is inherited and used until now. As part of the cultural treasures, the existence of the Balinese language is very important to be preserved. The Provincial Government of Bali, as the highest policy holder in the region, has also issued various legal regulations, both in the form of regional regulations and governor regulations in preserving the Balinese language. Policies from the local government certainly require support from all components of Balinese society as supporters and users of the Balinese language. In addition to the efforts carried out by the local government, the mass media in Bali have also long played a role in preserving the Balinese language, one of which is by including Balinese language rubrics in the mass media published, either in daily, weekly or monthly editions. However, the contribution of the Balinese-language mass media is felt to have received less attention from the public, including the government, so that its existence is fluctuating. Therefore, it is important to conduct a study on how the development, existence and also the supporting or inhibiting factors of maintaining the Balinese language through the Balinese language mass media. When viewed from its development, the mass media in Balinese language has been developing for a long time. The Balinese language mass media is still effective in conveying information to the public, because most Balinese people are still active in using the Balinese language. Factors supporting the existence of Balinese-language mass media in Bali include, among others, the support of the Bali provincial government in preserving the Balinese language and literature in the form of regulations in the form of governorates and local regulations; the idealism of the owners or managers of Balinese-language mass media in Bali; the development of Balinese language communities; there are universities that open Balinese language departments. The inhibiting factors for the existence of Balinese-language mass media in Bali include very little interest in writing by the Balinese; the Balinese language is only a spoken language, not a written language; the world of literature is very minimal; operating costs

The mass media are a prominent actor in the current debate on literature. In many ways, they contribute to defining its terms and settings, including what is said, whose voice is deemed valid/legitimate, and how it is all done/expressed. The mass media no longer merely mediate; rather, they produce views on and assessments of writers and their work. In his book De literatuur draait door. De schrijver in het mediatijdperk (2019), Sander Bax discusses selected cases of the media presence of well-known Dutch authors and their books to offer an insightful and accurate exploration of the ways in which the mass media influence the debate on literature and literature itself.

Sex education holds significant importance for teenagers from an early age due to their vulnerability to misinformation about sex. This dissertation aims to (1) explore teenagers' perceptions of sex education and (2) identify the sources they rely on for obtaining information about sex. Furthermore, sex education plays a crucial role in enlightening teenagers about various harmful sexual behaviors, enabling them to steer clear of such practices. The research employs a literature review methodology to unearth diverse information on adolescent sex education. Firstly, understanding adolescents' perception of sex education is deemed essential and advantageous in addressing their developmental challenges during this transitional phase from childhood to adulthood. Adolescence entails significant biological, cognitive, and socio-emotional changes, making sex education a pertinent tool to assist them. Secondly, teenagers predominantly turn to mass media, encompassing print media like newspapers, magazines, and books, as well as electronic media such as television and gadgets, for their sexual education. The mass media, along with peers, serves as the primary source of sexual information and knowledge for teenagers, as opposed to receiving such education from family or school environments.

Curiosity is an important and important quality of human nature, on the basis of which spiritual and material development of human has been possible, whatever difference or development or change we have been feeling in the journey from the beginning to modernity and perhaps will continue . Curious nature has a special place behind them all. This applies to all regions of the world as well as language. If we look at the attention of Hindi literature, then we see many changes in the history of its nearly 2000 years. Language continued to act as a medium of mass communication and continues to the day. But due to technical education, along with language, many such technical tools have been added, due to which the language seems to be paralyzed today. The change of time between 1980 and 2000 shook the smallest world. The effect of which was also certain on India. This effect has also taken the language in its grip. Today, without these tools and tools, language is inanimate. Its development, its spread seems to be stagnant. Today language technicians are using equipment and equipment is taking help of language. The information from these two mails reaches from one corner of the world to the other in a blink of an eye. The era of globalization has complemented these two.

Industry 4.0 has influenced the process of human communication from face-to-face to virtual. The communication process aligns with the Cyber-Physical System (CPS) concept. The CPS concept shows what is physically represented in cyberspace and vice versa. This has resulted in content production and distribution in the mass media adopting technological developments summarized in the CyberPhysical and Smart Factory systems. The adoption of technology that the mass media should carry out is a challenge for the sustainability of the media industry to carry out the function of the press. Thus, this article offers forms of technology adoption in the mass media using the literature review method in previous studies. The literature review results in this article offer technology adoption in the mass media from the perspective of industry 4.0. The form of technology adoption is the process of computational journalism as a production action based on Smart Factory. Furthermore, news automation is a production act and a CPS-based news distribution. This production and distribution process should involve the mass media workforce, which requires an approach to technology adoption by humans in the future mass media.

Abstract:
The most striking change in children's culture, including children's literature, over the last few decades has been its commercialization and globalization (O'Sullivan, Comparative Children's Literature 149–52). The children's book industry in the United States, the leading market, is increasingly dominated by a handful of large media conglomerates whose publishing operations are small sections of their entertainment businesses. As a consequence, as Daniel Hade observes, “the mass marketplace selects which books will survive, and thus the children's book becomes less a cultural and intellectual object and more an entertainment looking for mass appeal” (511). The influence of these multimedia giants is immense: manufacturing mass-produced goods for children, they sell their products beyond the borders of individual countries, further changing and globalizing what were once regionally contained children's cultures. As a discipline that engages with phenomena that transcend cultural and linguistic borders and also with specific social, literary, and linguistic contexts, comparative children's literature is a natural site in which to tease out the implications of these recent developments.

Abstract:
In the 21st century, mass media has achieved outstanding success, gaining the status of a cultural factor no less influential than religion, literature, and arts, all of which are immediate generalize of social events. Mass media have attained active leadership positions in terms of individual and collective ideological influence, transmitting cultural achievements, and determining the acceptance or rejection of cultural values by the society. With mass media becoming the generally popular form of crosscultural intercourse and interaction of the individual with the spiritual, material and historical experience gained by generations and nations. The efficiency of the mass media phenomenon is beyond debate. However, it does manifest significant detrimental characteristics, in particular, its threatening potential of a substitution for true spiritual and social values by artificial counterparts generated by a particular outlook oriented authors. It is at the same time obvious that cultural values are being dissociated and divided to meet the needs of a certain social class or social group. This makes research into the axiological functions performed by mass media in a democratic multi-channel society a vital necessity. Research into the axiological and creative function of mass media is one of the current lines of philosophical research and it requires a distinctive methodology ensuring effective axiological insights into the phenomenon of mass media. It is through mass media that millions of people acquire knowledge of current events and values, which is bound to affect the integrity of a society´s orientation, and determine the lines of cultural development. No creative, effective activity is possible outside the scope of mass media, as it is only through and by mass media that the behaviors of social groups are coordinated and conformal and coherent worldview and ideological paradigms are molded.

Abstract:
Advances in Technology, Information and Communication (ICT) have an impact on the use of mass media in people's daily lives. This can form a separate character for the community. The characteristics of society can be seen from some of feedback given in the mass media. Through the mass media, the public can convey various opinions, complaints, criticisms, and suggestions regarding anything, therefore the mass media has an influence in society. The positive impact is felt, namely the easier access to information quickly, while the negative impact is felt, namely the easier access to information, of course, the public will be trapped in the spread of fake news (hoaks). The solution to this problem is to become a wise society in sorting, processing, and controlling what is received so that it does not become raw material that is consumed without knowing the truth. In this study using the literature review (literature review). The use of this method is based on analysis of literature studies, journals, articles, websites, and theses which are adapted to the related title. The purpose of this study was to identify and analyze the role of social media in influencing public trust in society.

The article highlights that, in the legal literature, the authors, for obvious reasons, focus mainly on the analysis of the professional side of the life of lawyers. While the non-professional side of their life stays out of the researchers’ attention. Meanwhile, both sides have an impact on each other and interrelate to a certain extent. Thus, the issues associated with the lawyers’ interest to topics covered by the mass media are interesting not only for scientific but also for practical purposes. In this regard, the article presents the results of the author’s sociological study of the professional culture of lawyers. It is shown how the work experience, age and other factors influence the interest of lawyers in the topics covered by the mass media.

Abstract:
Nowadays the influence comprehension of the mass media as one of the most significant factors affecting contemporary culture, acquires the special significance. All kinds of new information receiving by media channels obtain the stereotyped, frequently repeatedly cultural and axiological orientations, which become fixed in people's consciousness. Skillful manipulation of information makes the power of suggestion from mass media practically unlimited. Therefore, the public opinion is created by the mass media. Being so closely intertwined with the mass media, the modern mass culture is coming through all elements of people's lives. Moreover, it appears in the literary works, which reflect the influence of the mass media on the consciousness, mentality, point of view and decisions of the literature characters, using their set example in the literature. Odessian playwright Aleksander Mardan presents his characters in the context of the events, which entails new circumstances both due to the characters decisions and out of more extensive economic and political changes. One may notice the presence of mass media in the form of music, information broadcasts and press almost in all Mardan's play. One may track out the influence on the character’s consciousness and reveal the difference between the official version and what happened in the real life. Using the performance tool, there is the action in the play showing the influence of the stereotypes implicated by the mass media. The performance reveals not only the stereotypes affection influencing the mentality of the characters, but also the viewers whose interpretation of the play’s direction is not always critical enough. Therefore, the question about the relationship between the society and mass media, about the level of freedom in mass media from the society and concerning the influence exerted by mass media on the modern culture and the human's consciousness is repeatedly presented in Alexander Mardаn’s plays.

Abstract:
Introduction: Mass media has an essential role in various aspects of life, including in the context of governance. Mass media is an information and communication medium that plays a central role as a relevant information provider and facilitates dialogue between government and society. Meanwhile, the role of mass media in the discourse on improving the quality of public services as an outward-looking aspect still needs to be improved. This research aims to examine the impact of news in mass media on public service responsivity. Literature Review: As Neuner (2019) mentioned, mass media offers a wealth of literature addressing the media's effects on issues relevant to policies. In this research, it is known that the role of mass media is to facilitate public responses by communicating information about policy changes. Methods: This study carried out a Mixed Methods approach by combining quantitative research with inferential statistical types with qualitative and descriptive types of research. Result and Discussion: The averages for each indicator composing the Public Service Responsiveness variable (Z) are as follows: Service Response indicator (Z1) is 3.92; Service Speed indicator (Z2) is 3.93; Service Accuracy indicator (Z3) is 3.97; and Service Precision indicator (Z4) is 3.91. Thus, the average response for the Public Service Responsiveness variable (Z) is 3.93, which falls into the "sufficient." Conclusion: The study results show that mass media has a positive and significant effect on the responsiveness of public services.

Women have employed the various channels of communication that covers broadcasting, newspapers, television, radio, internet for creating awareness, to express opinions, to educate the general public and enlighten women themselves on their rights and privileges. The current state of the media as against what existed in the pre-colonial and colonial era has triggered participation of women in the development of the sector. While there are bourgeoning literatures on women generally, their role in education, home, economy, governance, agriculture, food security, child bearing and rearing, a narrower study focuses on the role of women in the development of mass media from a historical perspective, thus creating a gap in literature. To this end, this study delves into a historical appraisal of women and mass media development in the 21st century. The paper reviews existing debates on women and mass media development and goes further to assess their contributions to one another.

Abstract:
The article examines the frequency of the content of aggression in the media and its impact on the human psyche. The article presents the results of a study of the frequency of manifestation of aggression in the media, using the method of quantitative content analysis, which is based on the study of the content of any documents, media materials, literature, works of art, personal and official documents. As an object of research, we identified the frequency of manifestation of aggression, the material of the study is a random sample of 7 films ("The Great Gatsby", "Pompeii", "State Councilor", "The Third Extra", "The Diary of Memory", "Law Abiding Citizen" and "Bruce omnipotent"). The units under study are movie episodes, which we have divided into 7 categories: open manifestation of aggression (verbal and non-verbal); display of humor; unreal situations (fantasy); manifestation of sentimentality; neutral and positively oriented neutral plots; narration; manifestation of fear. Having considered all the units of study of a random sample of movies, we came to the following conclusion: aggression is one of the most common categories on television. According to the results of the study, it can be assumed that one of the reasons for the aggressiveness of modern society is the presence of a large amount of negative information in the media, this is due to the fact that a person tends to "absorb" and copy forms of behavior "from the screen", in particular, this applies to children aged up to 12 years old.

Abstract:
This study aims to discuss the influence of mass media on the rise of populism. Mass media is essentially a media that puts forward the truth in conveying information. The mass media is here to guide people to the true knowledge and truth about an event or occurrence. However, the reality that is happening in Indonesia is that the mass media often display conflicting information. The mass media often present information for the sake of meeting the interests of certain political groups and actors. As a result, the mass media has become a growing valley for populism in Indonesia. This study uses a literature study on the influence of mass media on the rise of populism. This study finds that the cause of the development of populism is because the mass media do not prioritize objectivity in conveying information and news. The solution offered by this research to minimize this is that the mass media need to return to their authenticity as a media that prioritizes truth and objectivity. In addition, the community needs critical reasoning in consuming various information and the importance of the government's control function in overseeing the ambiguity of news or information presented to the public.

Abstract:
This paper's main objective is to review existing literature on science journalism, focusing on the current status of the discipline and the implications of the reviewed literature going forward. The paper is driven by the fact that there has been reported conflict regarding how journalists and scientists view scientific information. Journalists have always lamented the insufficient support and cooperation from the science community. On the other hand, scientists argue that journalists' work is to disseminate scientific information through mass communication media and channels to mass audiences. Because of this acrimony, reporting on science as a beat by the media has been affected, leading to the scanty available literature on science journalism as a discipline. Empirical existing literature was searched through the search strings SCI* and JOUR* in peer-reviewed journals and the literature reviewed to ascertain the current status of science journalism, the research gaps and areas for future action. Journalists need support to keep in touch with local science institutions and other stakeholders to follow, monitor and report on new science developments. In addition, scientists need to embrace mass communication as an avenue through which they can share their scientific findings with the mass audience. Equally, scientists can collaborate with journalists to deliver scientific information to the mass audience through the media. Based on the findings and recommendations of the literature review, the paper argues a case for science journalism going forward.

Abstract:
This essay carries out a reading, based on the principles of contemporaneity, of twenty-first century Cordel Literature (“String Literature”), taking as corpus the works of Klévisson Viana, who has been an exponent of Northeastern Cordel Literature in recent decades. To handle aspects such as folkcomunication and dialogue between canonical literature and popular literature, a theoretical basis supplied by the works of Antoine Compagnon (2010), José Marques de Melo (2008), Márcia Abreu (1999), and Magdalena Jorge Dine (1998) has been used. And to address issues such as performance and the connection between orality and writing, theories arising from the studies of Paul Zumthor (2007), Idelette Muzart Fonseca dos Santos (1995), Ana Maria Galvão (2001) and Luís da Câmara Cascudo (2005) have provided appropriate support. The work thus seeks to build a comprehensive interpretation of the themes, characters and expressions that Cordel (String Literature) language has maintained, but also the ones that it has renewed, in the sense that certain ideologies and traditional characters have remained in Northeastern identity by utilizing new languages and new poetics.

Обмен этими сверхкраткими пересказами в целях угадывания и узнавания является важной частью современной популярной культуры и одновременно выявляет стратегию мематизации классики. The article discusses the issue of «reduction» of works of literature to one or two key scenes in modern meme culture and their penetration into youth mass media in such a «minimized» form. The exchange of these ultra-short paraphrases for guessing and recognition is an important part of modern popular culture, and at the same time it reveals the strategy of classifying the mematization of classic.

Abstract:
The sophistication of technology has encouraged the use of social media in society and has the potential to be the main medium of information dissemination replacing the mass media. Social media also serves to connect among of the users to make it easier for them to interact with each other even in a distance. However, the broad-ranging and extensive social media system also make way for the immoralities and causes the problem of social interaction in the virtual space. This has been proven by the findings of numerous studies on social interaction misconduct on social media. This paper attempts to identify the pattern of several previous studies on social interaction misconduct on social media by using the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method. This method was applied to identify, review, evaluate, and interpret all existing studies within the topic areas of the phenomenon of social interaction misconduct on social media. Through this method as well, the process of identification and evaluation of articles can be done systematically by following the process that has been determined. The results of the study found that there are several major issues of social interaction misconduct on social media that have become the topic of studies, such as cyber bully, cyber fraud, spreading fake news and sexual harassment. Nevertheless, there are several forms of ideas for the prevention of social media misconduct; for instance, law enforcement, education, and the application of ethical and moral values.

Abstract:
The article is devoted to the review of the prospects of multidisciplinary media-cultural studies in modern comparative literature studies towards comparative cultural studies and transmedial naratology. Comparative cultural studies syncretically combine the concepts of comparative literary criticism with the study of culture in the aspect of media-cultural studies, not limited to literature, but also various arts, mass media, computer games, etc. Literature is understood only as one of the media among other media. This is a transdisciplinary turn in comparative literature studies. Comparative naratology, and later transmedial naratology, in turn, is seen as a new discipline on the verge of literary comparativism, intermedialism, and naratology. The typology of intermedial forms of naratology in the classifications of Werner Wolf, Marie-Laure Ryan, and Jan-Noël Thon is discussed. Modern studies of various medial forms of narratives, which may also be presented in cinema, painting, graphic arts, ballet, comic books, and other mediums, and the discovery of the intermedial properties of narratives, lead to a rethinking of the fact that all narratives have a purely linguistic nature. Modern naratology as a separate discipline tends to go beyond purely literary narrative and transfer the concept of narration to other types of arts. Intermediate methodologies have already entered into comparative literature studies and have been successfully used in the analysis of literary works. It is about syncretic theoretical and methodological synthesis of three branches of art studies — naratology, intermedialism and literary comparativism, cross-disciplinary narrative studies. The combination of narrative and intermedial approaches to literature is becoming one of the most urgent tendencies of modern both naratology and the theory and practice of intermediality.

The purpose of this special issue is to examine Yeats’s various ventures in mass communication. Enlisting a broad range of critical approaches, contributors to this volume show how the demands of print journalism and radio broadcasting informed Yeats’s poetics, his thinking about the social vocation of art, and his ideas about how literature might be best received and structured. The essays also examine the reception and legacies of Yeats’s experiments with mass media, showing how he was at once self-consciously archaic and exultantly avant-garde.
