Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:

Said, Lamia. "Aromatase, estrogènes et infertilité masculine." Caen, 2009. http://www.theses.fr/2009CAEN2020.

Abstract:
The involvement of aromatase in the quality of the spermatozoa was undertaken in Tunisian patients with abnormal mobility and morphology spermatozoa and undergoing infertility assessment. A significant decrease of aromatase transcript was noted in both teratozoospermia and asthenoteratozoospermia groups compared with normozoospermia. Asthenozoospermia group was divided into two sub-groups with aromatase mRNA rates lowered in the first and increased in the second. Moreover, a significant correlation between mRNA aromatase and the percentage of sperm morphology and/or MAI was recorded. The seminal plasma biochemical parameters in these patients revealed a significant reduction of fructose level in the asthenozoospermic in comparison with asthenoteratozoospermic patients. The correlation analysis reveals that neutral a- glucosidase is correlated with seminal volume and pH; citric acid with pH and fructose with seminal volume, sperm count and morphology. The implication of aromatase and estrogen receptor alpha gene in the sterility of chromosomal hybrid mice resulting from crosses between Robertsonian (22Rb) 2n = 22 and standard (40Std) 2n = 40 domestics mice was verified by the analysis of the expression of aromatase and estrogens receptor alpha genes. Our data showed no difference of mRNA rates of these two markers in the testes between hybrids and parental races but, in females a reduced level of aromatase ARNm was observed in the ovaries of hybrids resulting from the cross (♀40Std×♂22Rb)

Lancaster, Sarah Helen, and Sarah Helen Lancaster. "Evil Matriarchs & Masculine Dramas." Thesis, The University of Arizona, 2017. http://hdl.handle.net/10150/625030.

Full text
Abstract:
This thesis explores the characterization of evil matriarchs within quality television dramas. Contemporary serial dramas are often masculinized, which complicates the portrayals of female characters. The analysis focuses on motherhood, because mothers are simultaneously uplifted and disregarded by the male characters within these shows more so than other female characters. In contrast to the idealized depictions of motherhood found throughout television, this thesis focuses on matriarchs that resort to villainy in order to retain power for their families. The case studies examine Gemma Morrow from Sons of Anarchy and Cersei Lannister from Game of Thrones, as these shows are strong representations of contemporary masculine dramas. The research reveals that evil matriarchs desire masculine freedom and the power attached to it; however, their maternal love for their children prevents them from successfully dismantling gender hierarchies.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Peculiarities of translating romance novels are considered in the article. Examples from the novel by Kristan Higgins “Too good to be true” are given in order corresponding to their manifestation in the book. Special attention is given to the translation of realities. The main translation techniques used are transliteration and transcription, calquing, and combinations (concerning onomastic realities), descriptive translation and approximation (concerning everyday realities and associations). Besides, it is mentioned, that gender dimension is extremely pragmatically valid in the context of other stylistic and grammatical aspects of the text. The authors make a conclusion of dynamic changes in speech stereotypes towards blurring gender lines between masculine and feminine speech behavior. It is important to consider this fact when translating romance novels.

Hicks, Jacqueline. The Role of Gender in Serious and Organised/Transnational Crime. Institute of Development Studies, March 2021. http://dx.doi.org/10.19088/k4d.2021.059.

Full text
Abstract:
This rapid review synthesises evidence on the role of gender in serious and organised/transnational crime (SOC) with regard to gender norms, participation and prevention. It looks at the literature on the roles women play in organised crime groups and their pathways to participation, the impact of cultural gender norms in different forms of participation for men and women in SOC, and the role of gender dynamics within families or communities in preventing SOC. Key Overall Findings linking gender norms, female participation and prevention of SOC: 1). Gender norms and women’s participation in SOC are varied and highly contextual, highlighting the importance of gender analysis to programming; 2). Gendered perceptions of men as perpetrators and women as victims in SOC undermine effective responses; and 3). Some types of masculine identity have been linked to involvement in violent crime and societal tolerance of organised crime groups. In Italy, some feminists characterise opposition to SOC as an anti-patriarchal struggle.

Бережна, Маргарита Василівна. Translator’s Gender in the Target Text. Publishing House “Baltija Publishing”, 2020. http://dx.doi.org/10.31812/123456789/4140.

Full text
Abstract:
For the last three decades, the issue of translator’s gender and its representation in the target text has been actively researched in translation studies. Over the period there appeared numerous, sometimes contradicting views on markers of feminine / masculine / other types of speech, on whether the translator’s gender is revealed in the target text, and on the quality of translation depending on the translator’s gender. The present paper focuses on the translator’s gender markers in the target text. Taking into account the results of other linguists and my own observations, I consider the researched units being either definite or ambiguous markers of the translator’s gender. I want to bring to light gender differences in two Ukrainian translations (female translation by Natalia Tysovska and male translation by Viacheslav Brodovyi) of George R.R. Martin’s A Game of Thrones. The semantic, pragmatic and stylistic shifts in the target text conditioned by the translator’s gender and gender stereotypes blur the sense of the source text. Thus, such shifts should be regarded as unwanted changes and better be avoided.

Abstract:
Workplace inclusion is a core component of corporate social responsibility (CSR) in Hong Kong. Workplace inclusion points to the need for employers to recognize diversity among employees, to acknowledge their contributions to the work environment and to raise professional standards for the work force. Diversity within a workplace indicates inclusion of persons with different backgrounds as in racial, ethnic, sex, health status, sexual orientation and gender identity. Women are already less represented at senior levels across various business sectors in Hong Kong. Lesbians and bisexual women face a double glass ceiling in the workplace as a result of both their gender and sexual orientation. Funded by Lingnan University’s Innovation and Impact Fund, and in partnership with Interbank Forum and Lesbians in Finance, Prof. Denise Tse-Shang Tang conducted an online survey and two focus groups targeting lesbians and bisexual women working in Hong Kong’s financial and banking industry. The aim of the study is to examine the specific challenges and barriers faced by lesbians and bisexual women in Hong Kong’s financial services industry. We found that only 37% of survey respondents were out at work, with 23% partially out to close colleagues. In other words, there are still key concerns with being out at work. On the issue of a glass ceiling for LGBT+ corporate employees, 18% of the survey respondents agreed and 47% somewhat agreed that such a ceiling exists. When asked whether it is harder for lesbians and bisexual women to come out in the workplace than it is for gay men, 32% agreed and 46% somewhat agreed. 27% agreed and 39% somewhat agreed with the statement that it is difficult for lesbians and bisexual women to climb up the corporate ladder. Other findings pointed to the low visibility of lesbians and bisexual women in corporate settings, lack of mentorship, increased levels of stress and anxiety, and the fear of being judged as both a woman and a lesbian. Masculine-presenting employees face significantly more scrutiny than cisgender female employees. Therefore, even though discussion on diversity and inclusion has been on the agenda for better corporate work environment in Hong Kong, there still remain gaps in raising awareness of lesbian and bisexual women’s issues.

Abstract:
