Abstract:
Mexican American Studies (MAS) courses have been criticized for many years. Legislation in Arizona and Texas have attempted to ban the content. This article pushes back on this attempt of oppression and offers MAS teachers a framework to apply when teaching the content. Using a timeline to depict the years of attempts for Mexican American Studies to be approved, we offer practitioners and researchers an Ethnic Studies framework particularly with MAS courses. Using cultural art, poetry, and literature, MAS teachers can benefit from using the Cinco Dedos framework especially at the secondary (6-12) grade levels. This framework prepares MAS teachers to utilize various Chicanx histories to tell the stories of Mexican American heroes not talked about in traditional American history courses. This article also provides tools to use in secondary MAS classrooms that highlight Mexican American culture for students provided by a MAS teacher. One of the founders of the framework uses this in his MAS course at a high school located in San Antonio, TX.

Abstract:
The concept of agent societies (or organizations) has become an important research area in the field of agent-related systems and vice versa. In order to do field-related simulations or to solve a variety of problems based in this research area, Multi-Agent System (MAS) frameworks are necessary. Several good proposals have been presented in this field. This paper presents a new MAS-based framework for agent societies based on the principles of a familiar, global connotation youth movement known as Scouting. The main goal of this paper is not to demonstrate whether the proposal presented here, which is presented by name of MAS-Scout, is better or not than the other current proposals. Instead, MAS-Scout is focusing in the following premise: knowing that Scouting has been a very successful social movement in the world; can its principles be used as a basis for designing a MAS-based framework used for implementing agent societies?

Abstract:
AbstractNowadays, Multi-Agent Systems (MAS) are broadening their applications to open environments, where heterogeneous agents could enter into the system, form agents’ organizations and interact. The high dynamism of open MAS gives rise to potential conflicts between agents and thus, to a need for a mechanism to reach agreements. Argumentation is a natural way of harmonizing conflicts of opinion that has been applied to many disciplines, such as Case-Based Reasoning (CBR) and MAS. Some approaches that apply CBR to manage argumentation in MAS have been proposed in the literature. These improve agents’ argumentation skills by allowing them to reason and learn from experiences. In this paper, we have reviewed these approaches and identified the current contributions of the CBR methodology in this area. As a result of this work, we have proposed several open issues that must be taken into consideration to develop a CBR framework that provides the agents of an open MAS with arguing and learning capabilities.

AbstractThe JP (Jelšový Potok, Slovakia) and SWy-1 (Wyoming, USA) montmorillonites were treated in 6 m HCl at 95°C. The rates of dissolution of tetrahedral and octahedral Al (Altet and Aloct) are comparable. Aluminium in the tetrahedral sheets was also identified in both untreated samples by 29Si MAS NMR spectroscopy. About 12% of total Si in SWy-1 was found to be bound in quartz. Traces of undecomposed montmorillonite and a small amount of Altet in the three-dimensional SiO4 framework were found in the reaction product of montmorillonite decomposition. Three different types of structural units were identified in acid-treated samples: Q4(OAl) units of amorphous silica with three-dimensional crosslinked framework; (SiO)3SiOH units, remaining as a result of poor-ordering of the framework without the possibility of cross-linking; and Q4(1A1) units.

Abstract:
Multi-agent systems (MAS) have recently gained much fame and have proved to be a potential technology that enables the construction and development of collaborative intelligent software systems. Development of such autonomous intelligent systems require a high level of communication with enriched semantics that will enable them to be integrated with the Web to achieve the ultimate goal of the Semantic Web in the future. The most important issues in MAS are high-level agent interaction, expressive power of agents, and semantics of messages to collaborate and cooperate with each other in Autonomous Decentralized Systems (ADS). This encoding/decoding mechanism will not only increase the reliability of the system but will also exhibit the properties of ADS that are high assurance. The evaluation proves that the implementation of semantically enriched communication improves performance and efficiency as a whole.

Abstract:
This work proposes a new coordination system for the environment of a Multi-Agent System by merging the features from two important contributions to this field of research, Organizational Mechanisms and Artifacts. Organizational mechanisms can be introduced into a Multi-Agent System with the aim of influencing the behavior of agents populating it to achieve their goals in a proper way. In this paper, we propose to model organizational mechanisms by means of artifacts, which are non-proactive entities used by agents. Artifacts were presented within the Agents & Artifacts conceptual framework, and that present good advantages for coordinating agents' environments. We put forward a formal model that defines how organizational mechanisms can be designed by using artifacts theory. We validate the approach by presenting a case study focused on a real health care domain problem. Additionally, the Artifacts for Organizational Mechanisms are compared with some different proposed artifacts.

Abstract:
AbstractViséite is a poorly crystalline mineral which is difficult to study by X-ray diffraction pattern. NMR is a very useful technique to study such poorly crystalline minerals, and 31P, 27Al, and 29Si MAS NMR in conjunction with powder XRD results show that at least our Viséite sample is not a single phase with a structure analogous to that of analcime as previously reported. Rather, it is very disordered with a structure similar to that of crandallite and includes other phases including an undefined aluminophosphate, opal, and a framework aluminosilicate, probably a zeolite. The previously reported variations in the Si content of Viséite are probably due to variable amounts of opal and the framework aluminosilicate.

Abstract:
In this paper we investigate how top management teams (TMTs) use management accounting systems (MAS) for strategy implementation. Consistent with upper echelon theory we argue that professional and administrative TMTs differ in their use of MAS, which in turn affects the implementation of strategic policies. We extract three dimensions of MAS use from extant research on the MAS-strategy relationships. We further distinguish between sets of strategic objectives aimed at cost reduction and flexibility enhancement as part of an overall firm strategy. Hypotheses are developed and tested in a survey study among 884 TMT members in all 218 general hospitals in Spain, forming 92 complete TMTs. Overall, we find systematic differences between professional and administrative TMTs in their use of MAS and its effects on strategy implementation. In a secondary analysis, we explore whether the observed differences in the use of MAS are consistent with the coercive-enabling framework recently introduced into the management accounting literature. We find considerable support for the validity of this framework in our sample. Overall, the paper contributes to the growing literature on the role of MAS in supporting strategy implementation. We extend this literature by explicitly recognizing the role of TMT composition in both strategy implementation and the use of MAS and by providing evidence of the validity of the coerciveenabling framework of MAS in a cross-sectional analysis.

Abstract:
AbstractThe unprecedented enforcement of the mutually agreed solution (MAS) in the WTO Softwood Lumber disputes – but outside the WTO dispute settlement system – and the recent use of MAS to resolve important trade disputes should trigger a hard look at these dispute settlement instruments provided for by the DSU. This article seeks to provide a detailed framework of analysis of MAS under the DSU that allows the WTO dispute settlement system to adjudicate MAS-related disputes. WTO Members should not go outside the system to enforce MAS. The article illustrates that MAS can create binding obligations and that MAS are WTO law, given the explicit reference to them in the DSU, their intimate relation with the WTO-covered agreements and the requirement for compliance with these agreements. In addition, the article offers an interpretation of the DSU that allows panels and the Appellate Body to regard MAS as applicable law. This interpretation is offered in the view that there is no policy reason to sustain that these controversies – always fully related to WTO rights and obligations and framed under the corners of the covered agreements – have to be resolved by an adjudication system other than that of the WTO.

Abstract:
Mesostructured pillared zeolite materials in the form of lamellar phases with a crystal structure of mordenite (MOR) and ZSM-5 (MFI) were grown using CTAB as an agent that creates mesopores, in a one-pot synthesis; then into the CTAB layers separating the 2D zeolite plates were introduced by diffusion the TEOS molecules which were further hydrolyzed, and finally the material was annealed to remove the organic phase, leaving the 2D zeolite plates separated by pillars of silicon dioxide. To monitor the successive structural changes and the state of the atoms of the zeolite framework and organic compounds at all the steps of the synthesis of pillared MOR and MFI zeolites, the nuclear magnetic resonance method (NMR) with magic angle spinning (MAS) was applied. The 27Al and 29Si MAS NMR spectra confirm the regularity of the zeolite frameworks of the as synthetized materials. Analysis of the 1H and 13C MAS NMR spectra and an experiment with variable contact time evidence a strong interaction between the charged “heads” –[N(CH3)3]+ of CTAB and the zeolite framework at the place of [AlO4]− location. According to 27Al and 29Si MAS NMR the evacuation of organic cations leads to a partial but not critical collapse of the local zeolite structure.

Numerous works aim to design agents and multi-agent systems architectures in order to enable cooperation and coordination between agents. Most of them use organizational structures or societies metaphor to define the MAS architecture. It seems improbable that a rigid unscalable organization could handle a real world problem, so it is interesting to provide agents with abilities to self-organize according to problem's objectives and environment dynamics. We have chosen the holonic paradigm to provide these abilities to agents. Holons are recursive self-similar entities which are organized in an emergent society — an holarchy. The aim of this paper is to present a formally specified framework for holonic MAS which allows agents to self-organize. The framework is illustrated by an example drawn from a real world problem. Some pertinent properties concerning the self-organizing capabilities of this framework are then proved.

This paper presents a conceptual model of an agent (called Collaborator Agent) intended to design collaborative software architectures based on multi-agent systems. The authors’ model combines astutely two research areas: Multi-Agent Systems (MAS) and Computer Supported Cooperative Work (CSCW). The particularity of their approach is the division of the collaborative process into three spaces according to Ellis' 3C model: communication, coordination and production. In their work, the authors extend the 3C model by adding a fourth space: collaboration. Hence, the authors present a model based on four types of agents (collaboration, communication, coordination and production) supporting the whole set of collaborative tasks. The model is used to create the conceptual software architecture of their MAS. The authors apply their conceptual model on the ARITI-C system for collaborative online robot teleoperation. Finally, the authors present a quantitative evaluation of the collaboration process in ARITI-C.

According to an error between every two neighbor agents, several consensus criteria among the agents are obtained firstly. Then, consensus criteria are obtained via the diameter of the graph of the MAS. Finally, based on the small-world framework, the consensus criteria are obtained; also, the relations among the consensus, the diameter of the path in the small-world framework, and the errors of agents are disclosed. Finally, one numerical example shows the reliability of the proposed methods.

Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:
One-pot synthetic gallosilicate nitrate cancrinite (CAN) framework topology have been synthesized under hydrothermal conditions at 100 °C. The synthesized product was characterized by, X-ray powder diffraction, IR, Raman and29Si,23Na MAS NMR spectroscopy, SEM and thermogravimetry. The crystal structure refinement of pure nitrate cancrinite has been carried out from X-ray data using Rietveld refinement method. Gallosilicate cancrinite Na8[GaSiO4]6(NO3)4(H2O)6crystalline hexagonal with space group P63and a = 12.77981 Å (2), c = 5.20217 Å (1), (Rwp= 0.0696 Rp= 0.0527). The results by MAS NMR spectroscopy confirmed the alternating Si, Ga ordering of the gallosilicate framework for a Si/Ga ratio of 1.0. A distribution of the quadrupolar interaction of the sodium cations caused by the enclatherated water molecules and motional effects can be suggested from the23Na MAS NMR. Thermogravimetric investigation shows the extent of nitrate entrapment, stability within the cancrinite cage and decomposition properties. SEM clearly shows the hexagonal needle shaped crystals of nitrate cancrinite.
