Abstract:
Ixodes lividus Koch, 1844 (Ixodida: Ixodidae) is a specialised endophilic tick of the sand martin Riparia riparia whose distributional range matches that of its host in the Paleartic region. However, the presence of this tick species has not been described in Mediterranean countries where the sand martin also breeds. In this study, we investigated I. lividus infestation in 1,081 Riparia riparia individuals from two breeding colonies in central Portugal. In total, three I. lividus were collected from three sand martins (infestation rate of 0.28%). A molecular survey on these ticks did not detect the presence of any Borrelia burgdorferi s.l., Rickttesia spp. nor Babesia spp. This report expands to the south and west the known distributional range of I. lividus in Europe.

Abstract:
A total of 40 phytoseiid species has been reported from Chile, including the two species (Neoseiulus californicus (McGregor) and Phytoseiulus persimilis (Athias-Henriot) most widely used worldwide for the biological control of the two-spotted spider mite, Tetranychus urticae Koch (Tetranychidae). In this paper we report nine other species found in new collecting conducted since 1989, including three new species: Amblyseius herbicolus (Chant), Amblyseius tamatavensis Blommers, Arrenoseius robertogonzalezi Trincado & Martin n. sp., Neoseiulus anonymus (Chant & Baker), Neoseiulus bicaudus (Wainstein), Neoseiulus viticolus Trincado & Martin n. sp., Metaseiulus (Metaseiulus) camelliae (Chant & Yoshida-Shaul), Metaseiulus (Metaseiulus) neoflumenis Moraes & Kreiter and Metaseiulus (Metaseiulus) relictus Trincado & Martin n. sp.. Chileseius camposi Gonzalez & Schuster, 1962 is redescribed, and a list of all species presently known from Chile and a key to help in their separation are given. A new name, Proprioseiopsis kargi Trincado nom. nov., is a replacement name for Proprioseiopsis globosus Karg, 1976, a junior homonym of Proprioseiopsis globosus (Gonzalez & Schuster, 1962).

Abstract:
Recently proposed models of orientation tuning in layer 4 of cat primary visual cortex (Somers, Nelson, & Sur, 1995; Douglas, Koch, Mahowald, Martin, & Suarez, 1995) rely on widespread inhibitory intracortical connections to suppress the nonoptimal component of a broadly tuned thalamic input, while local excitatory intracortical connections amplify the optimal component. However, new experimental data (Ferster, Chung, & Wheat, 1996) and theoretical analyses (Ferster, 1987; Krukowski, Priebe, & Miller, 1996) show that the temporally modulated component of thalamic input is well tuned and that the cortical circuitry must simply subtract an unmodulated DC component at nonoptimal orientations to obtain sharp tuning. In addition, within a single hypercolumn in layer 4, inhibitory and excitatory layer 4 neurons have approximately equal-sized axonal fields, making the most of their synapses within their own dendritic field (Kisvarday, Martin, Whitteridge, & Somogyi, 1985; Martin & Whitteridge, 1984). We have constructed a model of a single microcolumn in which GABAB inhibition subtracts the DC and controls the sustained response, while GABAA inhibition controls the response to transient and suprathreshold inputs. The model fits experimental data based on stimulation with drifting sine-wave gratings as well as flashed bars, explains a counterintuitive property of the GABAB K+ conductance, and at suboptimal orientations and submaximal contrasts produces an exponential distribution of firing frequencies.

Abstract:
Religion is a contested discursive field in which resources, belonging or exclusion and supremacy in relation to values are negotiated. Diversification processes and religious pluralisation during the alleged return of religion have re-raised the questions of how religion should be interpreted and how accessible it is. As a contribution to intersectionality research, this publication analyses how and in what interest new interfaces are being formed between religion, gender, origin, class and the nation. Its focus lies on educational processes as forms of socialisation, places of learning and reflexive change in religion. It aims to provide a forum for analysing and finding solutions to problems in ‘post-secular’ societies in Western Europe, which are being challenged by discussions on secularism, integration, how they deal with their history and liberal constitutional states. Abstract:
In current everyday debates in Germany, many people are increasingly experiencing feelings of injustice, disadvantage and dependence. In the political sphere, these feelings are being taken up by populists and turned against democratic structures and processes. The large, independent charitable organisations in Germany (‘Freie Wohlfahrtspflege’), as a ‘pillar of the welfare state’ and an organisational structure with over 120,000 facilities and services and about 1.7 million employees, has direct contact with people throughout the country and especially with the disadvantaged. This also results in a responsibility for society and for democracy in Germany. How will the country live up to this responsibility? Abstract:
2018 witnessed several key developments which have shaped the digital single market. Whereas some issues are now in the final stages of the legislative process, other key topics are in their infancy and therefore require in-depth discussion as to how EU law should react to the challenges and needs of the digital economy. This volume focuses on an issue central to the digital single market: the ‘Liability for Artificial Intelligence and the Internet of Things’. European legislators face the challenge of deciding between adapting existing product liability rules or the creation of a new concept of objective liability for autonomous systems. The 2018 Münster colloquium provided a forum for intense discussion of these questions between renowned experts on digital law and representatives from EU institutions and industry. Abstract:
Koch in Ref. 1 presented a procedure for estimating the maximum pressure rise potential of axial flow compressor stages. When used in conjunction with a stage stacking off-design performance prediction method, it can indicate which stage is likely to be responsible for stalling a multistage compressor. Based on Koch’s approach, it is believed that the casing over the stage that stalls first (critical stage) should be treated in order to prevent or reduce the possibility of stalling. With the help of a two-stage compressor test rig, experimental investigations on the stage stalling and the ideal axial location of the treated casing in the multistage environment were performed using a recessed circumferential slot casing treatment. Experimental results indicate that it is possible to predict the stage that stalls first using Koch’s engineering method. In addition, it was verified that if the casing treatment was located over the critical stage, the stall margin of the whole multistage compressor could be improved significantly.

Abstract:
Abstract In the marine environment, the corrosion on a compressor blade caused by salt spray severely affects the compressor performance and poses a threat to its operation reliability. This study simulated the corrosion on the blade made of X20Cr13 martensitic stainless steel caused by salt spray by using the static acceleration test. Average depth and density of surface corrosion pit were calculated by the actual corrosion with peak valley and different shapes and sizes. The value of average deviation Ra was calculated by average depth and density of corrosion pit. According to the empirical formula proposed by Koch and Smith (ks = 6.2 Ra), setting the equivalent sand grain roughness ks in CFX. NASA Stage67 as calculation model. Then analyzed the effects of various surface roughness on compressor performance and internal flow field through the numerical simulation method. The results revealed that with the increase in corrosion time, the flow rate, pressure ratio, torque, and power of the compressor decreased. The internal flow indicated the increasing internal loss and decreasing efficiency. On the basis of loss analysis, the binomial relationships between the service time and relative values of total pressure loss and efficiency loss, respectively, were established.

Abstract:
This paper presents a method based on Lieblein and Koch correlations for assessing the performance degradation of an axial fan due to sand ingestion. The method is based on mean line analysis, and predicted aerodynamic performance includes the adiabatic efficiency, pressure rise coefficient and stall margin. Changes to the blade geometry which affect the fan aerodynamic performance are mainly due to erosion which reduces the blade chord and increases the tip clearance and surface roughness. Erosion damage has a significant effect on the aerodynamic lift coefficient, which is related to the static pressure distribution. An in-house developed trajectory code, combined with restitution factors and an erosion model (applicable for cast aluminium alloy and stainless steel), was used to predict particle trajectories and the amount of material removed. The method was applied successfully to a contra-whirl axial fan where reasonably good agreement was found between predicted and experimental results. Tests were conducted with MIL-E 5007E sand particle sizes of between 0.0 and 1000.0 microns. A method for predicting life expectancy of the fan is also presented. The methodology shows that critical blade parameters necessary for performance degradation simulation can be successfully obtained in this way.

Abstract:
Abstract The one-dimensional meanline method is of great importance for the design and performance prediction of multistage axial compressors. The models adopted in it, such as incidence, deviation and loss, considering real-fluid effects, determine whether the compressors’ operating behavior can be simulated accurately or not. This paper describes an improved meanline stage-stacking approach for the modelling of modern transonic axial multistage compressors. The improvement embodied in this study is mainly focused on deviation and surge margin prediction, which is the result of a combination of the previous models and models’ correction. One of the coefficients in the deviation angle model is corrected. A new surge model, different from the well-known maximum static pressure rise method of Koch and Smith, is introduced into this program and its advantage lies in higher accuracy and direct calculation instead of proposing a judgment criterion. Three well-documented NASA axial transonic compressors are calculated by this meanline method, and the speedlines and aerodynamic parameters are compared with the experimental data to verify the method presented in this paper. A discussion of the result then follows.
