Abstract:
Purpose: The church is expected to contribute to the stable marriage and ensure that it has put measures in place that will reduce the rate of divorce as much as possible. The purpose of the paper is to determine the effects of divorce in the selected churches of CITAM in Kenya. The objectives is to establish whether divorce has any effect on the psychological wellbeing of children and spouses affected, some of the causes of divorce, and the role of CITAM in reducing divorce in the church. Methodology: The paper adopted qualitative research methods to obtain in-depth information on the situation. The study used a descriptive research design and the target population of the research was 100 church members who have undergone the divorce, from which the researcher was able to obtain a sample of 27 participants through the saturated sampling technique. The data was collected using interviews. The data was analyzed using QDA miner lite 2.0.7. The data was presented using tables and charts. Results: Some of the causes of divorce include infidelity, variation in expectations, communication breakdown, and lack of support system, finances, in-laws, abuse and wrong orientations to marriage. CITAM should enhance support to families and enhance premarital counselling. Divorce causes psychological problems to divorced spouses and children and also causes stigmatization. Recommendations: The church needs to diversify means in which its members are empowered on how to embrace God’s teaching much more than their tradition or culture. The church members are aware of the biblical teaching that discourages them from divorce and therefore the church needs to diversify means by which they live according to God’s word which is the pillar for every marriage. The church needs to improve its premarital counseling as this is the building block of marriage. The church should also intentionally have professional counselors who have experience in marital issues and who will not mislead those who come for help in the church. The church needs to develop programs that can support church members who find themselves in troubled marriages by coming up with counseling programs that identifies with the affected church members.

Abstract:
This dissertation discusses Marriage in the perspective of Sufism (Study of analysis of Legislation on Marriage in Indonesia). This is done considering the high divorce rate in Indonesia even though the legislation regarding marriage has been made quite a lot by the government and even the Marriage Law No. 1 of 1974 and the Compilation of Islamic Law have long been enacted. The purpose of this study is to find out why Islamic marriage regulations and legislation in Indonesia have not been able to stem the flow of divorce and family disharmony, and what solutions can be offered in minimizing divorce in Indonesia, as well as how to establish marriage law with the Sufism approach. The process of collecting data is done by means of library research (Library Research). The reading material is described and analyzed using qualitative methods so that the causes of the high divorce rate in Indonesia are found. After the discussion, two main problems were found, namely formal problems and non-formal problems. Formal problems are problems that are related to the rules and regulations of marriage itself. While non-formal problems are problems that arise from the personal members of each family. To overcome problems related to formal problems, the solution offered is the need to review several articles in the Marriage Law Number 1 of 1974 and need to revive the functions of the Marriage Advisory Counseling and Conservation Agency (BP4) as before the Marriage Law Number 1 year 1974. Meanwhile, to overcome problems related to non-formal problems, it is necessary to give Sufism teachings to the bride and groom who are delivered when they attend bride and groom courses organized by the Ministry of Religion throughout Indonesia. In order to establish marriage law with the Sufism approach, the connection between Sufism values and laws in the frame of benefit is needed. For this reason, the values of Sufism such as warak and zuhud and qonaah and so on need to be developed and integrated in connection with marriage law. The interconnection of the values of Sufism with marriage law is needed in numbers to minimize the divorce rate in Indonesia. Keywords: Marriage law, Sufism

Abstract:
Introduction. In the African culture, the primary reason for marriage is procreation. Every female strives to perform this role irrespective of her health status so as to fulfill part of the conditions for maintaining the marriage. The question is, to what extent are HIV-positive women aware of the risks of fulfilling this role? The study aimed to determine the reproductive intentions of HIV-positive women in Abia State. Materials and Methods. This was a longitudinal cross-sectional descriptive study conducted among married HIV-positive women attending the Heart to Heart treatment centre in Abia State University Teaching Hospital from February to October 2013. Systematic sampling was used to select 250 married women between the ages of 15–49 years who are on antiretroviral therapy. Interviewer administered questionnaire and focus group discussion were used to obtain relevant information from the participants. Data were analysed qualitatively and quantitatively. SPSS version 17 software was also used in the analyses. Results. The mean number of living children of the respondents was 2.3 ± 4.7. A good proportion of the respondents, 158 (63.7%) the desired to have more children. The younger the age group of the respondents (OR = 7.33), the lower their parity (OR = 3.69) and more regular they attended ARV clinic (OR = 47.76) the more they desired to have more children. The main reason for desiring more children was the quest to have male children. In the words of one respondent, “without a male child, the marriage is not secure. The woman can be chased out at any time.” Conclusion. The fact that a large proportion of HIV-positive women, irrespective of the mean number of living children and their gender, still desired to have more children shows poor knowledge of the risk they are exposed to by having large number of children. Family counseling/education on the benefits of using family planning devices especially condom is necessary for HIV-positive women and their male partners.

Abstract:
The chronicity of end-stage renal disease and the uncertainties surrounding the course of the disease and its treatment necessitate ongoing psychosocial assessment of these patients. This study explored the psychosocial and physical experiences of haemodialysis patients. A qualitative study was conducted in one medical unit of a teaching hospital in Accra, Ghana. A sample of 10 female and male end-stage renal disease patients, undergoing haemodialysis, were recruited. Interviews were audio taped. Data were transcribed verbatim and were analysed through content analysis, coding and categorisation. From the experiences narrated by the participants, four main themes emerged, which were divided into sub-themes. These included: psychological experiences (anxiety, depression, anger, worrying, and fear of death); social experiences (intentional isolation, inability to attend social functions, and effect of dialysis on marriage); economic encounters (difficulty in financing the treatment, loss of income, lowered productivity); and physical experiences (problems with sleeping, with fluid and diet restrictions, and with accessing the treatment site). Based on these findings, it is recommended that counselling centres should be attached to dialysis units in order to counsel patients and their families before haemodialysis commences. Future studies should capture how haemodialysis patients cope with their psychosocial experiences.

Abstract:
This study aims to describe the role of cross-cultural counseling as a preventive effort in cases of early marriage. The method used in this study is a qualitative method, with the type of literature study or literature review. Researchers collected various books and articles related to the topic of discussion and then analyzed them. Based on the results of the analysis of the literature review, there are various factors behind early marriage including: 1) education, 2) culture, 3) environment. The findings also reveal that there are two techniques of cross-cultural counseling as an effort to prevent early marriage, including: first, counseling conducts discussions and collaborations in every line of the community sector. Second, the counseling session is accompanied by a counselor with cultural sensitivity competence as a catalyst. Counselors are tasked with educating the public or clients about the importance of preparing for marriage and the impact of early marriage. So cross-cultural counseling as an effort to prevent early marriage is a tool owned by counselors, namely through a cultural approach

Abstract:
Whether marriage counseling is perceived by the general public to be scientific or not has a number of implications for utilization of services, treatment outcomes, and public policy decisions. The current study used a nationally representative sample ( N = 1,026) from the 2012 General Social Survey to examine two research questions. First, how scientific is marriage counseling viewed by the general public? Second, what demographic variables predict how scientific marriage counseling is perceived by the general public? The analyses indicate that marriage counseling is generally not viewed as scientific, with only 7% rating it as “very scientific” and 40% rating it as “not scientific at all.” These ratings are similar to those given for salesmanship and financial counseling. This opinion was consistent across all demographic groups measured with the notable exception of those individuals who attend religious services more frequently, who were more likely to rate marriage counseling as scientific. There was also a finding indicating the possibility of those who are currently married but previously divorced rate marriage counseling as more scientific than those who are currently married and never divorced. The implications for the field of marriage counseling in regard to health promotion, public policy, and client utilization are discussed. Future directions, including more in-depth inquiry about these opinions, are also presented.

Abstract:
Same-sex marriage and family counselors usually do not have enough experience and training background to help same-sex couples with marriage and family issues. Some counselors may have a personal bias toward same-sex couples due to the absence of same-sex couples and families’ background. Marriage and family counselors provide counseling services to their clients with marriage and family problems and conflicts, resulting in a positive recovery negotiation. The purpose of this study was to understand and investigate the attitudes of marriage and family counselors regarding same-sex couples and families, an area ignored in mainstream marriage and family counseling. Based on 300 surveys and 38 interviews from marriage and family counselors in the United States, the researcher categorized that more than half of the participants expressed negative attitudes against same-sex couples and families, due to cheating, unsafe sexual activities, and domestic violence. Some counselors refused to provide counseling services to same-sex couples and families due to misunderstanding and prejudice. The results suggested that additional in-service professional developments and curriculum reforms are essential to promoting multicultural family structure. Abstract:
Marriages in Ghana are usually preceded by counseling. It is believed that premarital counseling helps to sustain marriages because it gives couples the initial skills needed to enable them to start their marriage and solve minor problems that may be encountered in the relationship. This study was aimed at assessing the significance of premarital counseling to the sustenance of marriage. The study adopted a mixed methodological approach in gathering the data. Data was gathered from 112 individuals from three different suburbs of the capital city of Ghana. The results showed that although pre-marital counseling was observed to be important for would-be couples, it does not help sustain all marriages. Married couples that were given pre-marital counseling were getting separated as well as those who never had pre-marital counseling. It is therefore recommended that although premarital counseling may be necessary, it is not sufficient to sustain marriages. Therefore, counseling should continue even after marriage.

Abstract:
Interfaith marriage is a marriage bond between a man and a woman who have different beliefs and religions. In principle, interfaith marriages are prohibited by every religious teaching. Every religious instruction requires a marriage bond to be carried out in a bond of the same faith (one religion). Based on Article 2 paragraph (1) of Law Number 1 of 1974 concerning Marriage, it is explained that a marriage is considered valid if it is carried out according to their respective religions and beliefs. Legal problems arise due to interfaith marriages, including the validity of marriages that give rise to rights and obligations between husband and wife and children's status due to interfaith marriages on their inheritance rights. Interfaith marriages occur in society but are usually covered up. In the case of interfaith marriages in Ogan Ilir Regency, our Community Service Team, Faculty of Law, Sjakhyakirti University conducted legal counseling to understand the legal consequences of interfaith marriages, especially regarding the validity of marriages, child status, and inheritance.

Abstract:
Traditional premarital counseling seems threatened and not benefiting the couple as it should be. This has negatively impacted on the establishment of marriage. The purpose of the study was to explore married women lived experiences on the value of traditional premarital counseling, go laya, on marital stability. Traditional premarital counseling has always existed to help prepare couples for the future challenges and expectations in marriage. The study adopted a qualitative phenomenological research design. A purposive sample of 10 married women with varied durations in marriage provided the data through interviews. These interviews were tape-recorded and transcribed. The transcripts assumed a phenomenological approach where bracketing and eidetic reduction were employed. The findings indicate that the traditional premarital counseling is very valuable and has a potential of keeping marriages firm. In addition, although the traditional premarital counseling is an appropriate antidivorce strategy, the main problem is that it has lately lost its meaning. Unlike in the past, it is no longer given the honor and not conducted in depth. Despite the major role go laya has in marriage, its implementation must be reviewed and documented to give direction on how it should be done.

Abstract:
The purpose of marriage is to make family in happy and eternal according to the purpose of Law Number 1 of 1974, and the state has set a marriage age limit. Problems occur because there are many cases of marriage dispensation with decisions being granted which sometimes contradict the purpose of marriage. This study discusses the marriage dispensation decision at the Purwokerto Religious Court in 2018 with 108 decisions. The results show that there are two main factors that make judges allow children to marry through marriage dispensation. The first factor considered by the panel of judges, namely the existence of such a close relationship between the prospective groom and the prospective bride that causes the parents of each prospective bride and groom to worry that their child will fall into things that will be detrimental. The second reason assessed by the panel of judges was that the bride and groom were pregnant. In order to reduce the practice of marriage dispensation, pre-marital guidance, counseling through recitation is a psychological and mental preparation to achieve the purpose of marriage.

AbstractGenetic service for couples plays an increasingly important role in diagnosis and risk management. This study investigated the status of consanguinity and the medical genetic history (effectiveness and coverage of medical genetic services) in couples residing in a city in southern Iran. We questioned couples who were referred to Behbahan Marital Counseling Center, Behbahan, Iran, during the period from January to November 2014, to obtain information on consanguinity, disease history, and previous referral to a medical genetics center. For the collected data was obtained descriptive statistics with STATA 11.0 software. A total of 500 couples were questioned. Mean age was 24.8 ± 5.2 years. Almost one quarter (23.4%) of the couples were consanguineous. Consanguinity was almost twice as common in rural areas as in urban areas (33.9 vs. 19.2%, p = 0.001). Only a few couples (~3.0%) had ever been referred for genetic counseling. The main reason for previous genetic counseling was consanguinity (85.7%). The majority of the participants (96.3%) had never been tested for any genetic conditions. Our findings suggest that only a small proportion of couples in Khuzestan Province, Iran (Behbahan City) were receiving adequate genetics care. This may reflect the limited accessibility of such services, and inadequate awareness and education among the care providers.

This study aims to analyze people's perceptions of the urgency of a marriage certificate in Linggo Sari Baganti District, Pesisir Selatan Regency. This research method is Qualitative Descriptive, with several informants as data sources that are determined based on appropriate criteria through direct observation on the object of research and interviews. Secondary data that supports this research are obtained from the documents available at the object of research. To test the validity of the data used Triangulation Technique. Based on the information from the informants of this study, it can be explained that the public perception of the marriage certificate still considers the marriage certificate as not urgent and not important so that the administrative management is not completed because it considers it not urgent so the community neglects the marriage certificate. The community still perceives the management to be long and complicated, even though after the author compares the data in the field regarding the management procedures, it is not difficult to take care of it. Obstacles in the management of marriage certificates faced by the community are related to customary arrangements and the lack of file requirements submitted to KUA. Efforts made by KUA to deal with these obstacles are like conducting counseling to each village about the importance of marriage certificates. Based on the research above the recommendations that the writer can suggest to the community are expected to be willing to take part in socialization and counseling about marriage registration. So that people can know and understand the importance of marriage certificates. Abstract:
Couple research, and specifically religion and couple research, is commonly conducted in individualistic cultures. The collectivistic milieu of China makes a useful contrast to Western culture. With Chinese churches, we conducted two studies on marriage relationships. In Study 1 ( N = 810), we report a survey on marriages of parishioners. Satisfaction was high among most couples with general relationship problems such as communication reported as the highest concern. Marriage happiness was negatively correlated with couple problems. In Study 2 ( N = 241), we describe a virtue-based couple counseling program, developed collaboratively with 20 Chinese key informants. We administered an 8-hr virtue-based couple-oriented training to 241 church leaders. Training increased church leaders’ self-efficacy and hope for effective ministry. We compared responsiveness to the training by pastors and lay leaders. Lay counselors were more responsive than were pastors. This program evaluation was a field study that also included a brief follow-up interview of randomly selected recipients of the training ( n = 16). Friendship counseling was reported in the follow-up interviews as the most common way to address marriage problems.

Abstract:
Religious beliefs play a significant role in the lives of victims of domestic violence. Victims find strength in their faith and would rather endure the violence at all costs to keep a family or a marriage together, than to compromise their faith by leaving. This 10 –year study explored the climate of support for victims of domestic violence among Christian clergy and church members between 2005 and 2015. Using a convenience sample, surveys were sent out to congregations in the Upper Midwest in 2005 and 2015. The survey included demographics; two items measuring perception of domestic violence in the congregation and community; six Likert Scale items regarding agreement with statements concerning leaving an abusive marriage; four “Yes–No” items regarding the impact of faith in leaving, support of the congregation, community resources, and clergy as counselors. The clergy’s survey had the same questions plus open-ended questions about their skills in counseling victims, their congregation’s support for victims, community resources, and beliefs that could impact a victim’s choice in leaving. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, simple frequencies, and bivariate correlations. Narrative data were analyzed using content analysis. The results of this study indicated that change is slow. Members want their clergy to become more educated in counseling and in speaking about domestic violence from the pulpit. Clergy felt comfortable in making referrals for professional counseling, while the majority of members would prefer counseling with their pastor if they were in a violent relationship. Both clergy and members want to create a safe and supportive environment for victims/survivors of violent relationships. Findings from this study exemplify the need for pastors to remove the silence about domestic violence in their congregations and address the misunderstood social religious beliefs that may bind a victim to the violence.

Abstract:
Currently, divorce rate in most big cities of Indonesia display an alarming trajectory that warrants close examination of the factors leading to it. With Islamic religious courts presiding over most of the divorce cases, which account for the largest portion of all legal cases in the country, this study examines the causal factors of divorce particularly in Bajarmasin city in South Kalimantan province. The study uses a qualitative research method. Data was collected through interviews, observations, and documentation study techniques. Findings indicate that there is little and sometimes no public awareness and understanding of the legal procedure of settling marriage deputes as many skip other available services like the Marriage and Divorce Advisory Board and directly seek divorce rulings from religious courts. It has also been established that domestic violence, secret marriages (Siri), early marriages and infidelity among other factors, are the main causes of the divorce. It has been established most of the couples seeking divorce ignore or are either ignorant about the roles and existence of the Marriage and Divorce Advisory Board which is formality tasked with the role counseling marriages couples with varying disputes and grievances. It is concluded that public awareness of proper channels and procedures of settling marriage disputes, women empowerment, increasing and promoting girl child education, strengthening family incomes, legal counseling on marriage law and a brief orientation on the dangers / impacts of secretary and early marriages could in the long-run curb the rampant divorce rates in the country and of course in Banjarmasin.

Abstract:
Underage marriage is a marriage carried out by a man or woman whose age has not reached theage of marriage. The marriage age is regulated in Article 7 point 1 of Law No. 16 of 2019 concerning amendments to Law no. 1 of 1974 concerning marriage. It is stated that marriage is only permitted if a man and a woman have reached the age of 19 years. Determining the minimum age of marriage is very necessary to create benefit and harmony in the family, in which marriage is a legal event that will change the position, rights, and obligations of a person. This researchused the empirical juridical method using primary and secondary data. This study analyzed the effect of underage marriage on family harmony and aimed at minimizing underage marriage. The results obtained that underage marriage gives a high impact on family harmony due to the unstable emotions, family economic factors, the unreadiness to run the family and these lead to divorce. Meanwhile, the efforts administered to minimize underage marriages were massive data collection, providing advice, providing legal counseling, the obligation to attend pre-marital education, strict marriage registration, and administration, as wellthe suspension of marriage certificates.
