Abstract:
This study analyzed the thematic structures of Wordsworth’s “Daffodils” and its Chinese version by Fei Bai to compare the theme distributions and their markedness in the original and Chinese versions of the poem. Results showed that the number of simple themes in the translated version was significantly higher than in Wordsworth’s original version. Conversely, Wordsworth’s version had more marked themes than Fei Bai’s version. This study then explored potential reasons for the different thematic structures in the two versions. The percentage of simple themes in Fei Bai’s version was higher than that in the original version because Chinese does not have a clausal theme, so translators would more frequently use simple themes. Additionally, Wordsworth’s original version reflected a higher percentage of marked themes than Fei Bai’s Chinese version because native English writers prefer to use juxtaposed phrases and clauses. These results provide theoretical insights on employing the linguistic perspective to compare English poems and their Chinese translations.

Abstract:
This research aimed at finding the types of themes and elements of theme used in multiple themes on the covid-19 vaccine news item. This research used the descriptive method. The data were news items that discuss the covid-19 vaccine online news on nbcnews.com in January to May 2021. The researcher found four types of themes in news items. They are simple unmarked theme, simple marked theme, multiple unmarked theme, and multiple marked theme. Meanwhile, the element of theme used in multiple theme are conjunction, conjunctive, continuative, wh-relative, finite, modal adjunct, and wh-question. The researcher found that the most dominant type of theme used was the unmarked theme (simple unmarked theme and multiple unmarked theme). This shows that the news is delivered with clear information that focuses on the events in the news.

Abstract:
This study will analyze the translation of sentences in the text by giving consideration to the distribution of information presented in the form of Theme-Rheme relation. First we will identify Themes - Rheme in the sentences in the text and will analyze the results of the translation. The theme is information that is priori-tized in a sentence usually placed in the beginning of sentence, and Rheme is the proposed information. There are three types of Themes, namely Topical Theme, Interpersonal Theme, and Textual Theme. The object of discussion here is the Topical Themes, which are Themes relating to how the subject matter discussed in the clause or sentence is laid out. Topical themes are divided into two types: Marked Topical Theme and Un-marked Topical Theme. The analysis of Topical Themes are taken from a bilingual children's book entitled Sangkuriang from the publisher Nexx Media Inc., Bandung. Sangkuriang is one of the popular Indonesian folklore that tells of a very beautiful mother whose admirer is his own son. The text to be analyzed is part of the text that tells about the birth of Dayang Sumbi, the mother of Sangkuriang. From the result of the whole analysis, the source text consists of 10 Marked Topical Theme and Top 10 Unmarked Topical Theme. There are some Topical theme changes from the source text to the target text: a sentence with an Unmarked Topical Theme is translated into a sentence with a Marked Topical Theme, and vice versa. Based on the analysis of Topical Themes on the Source Text and Target Text it can be concluded that there are some sentences that have shifted Topical Themes. There have been some changes in information due to the shift in this Topical Theme, so it can be said that this translation is not good. At the end of the analysis is given an edit on the target text. The edit of this translation does not change the Topical Theme from the Source Text, so the sub-ject matter in each sentence of the Target text is the same as the subject matter in each sentence of the Source Text.

Abstract:
The paper investigates the thematic patterns of health awareness campaigns made during the COVID-19 pandemic. The aim is to scrutinize the types of themes used in such prosocial advertisements by analyzing the theme placement and the elements inside those themes. COVID-19 was declared a global pandemic in 2020 due to which health organizations proceeded to spread warnings and health awareness campaigns. In these circumstances, the language of these campaigns played a significant role in delivering the message to the people. In total, 75 posts were taken from official Instagram accounts of the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Centre for Disease Control (CDC) between March 21st, 2020 and June 21st, 2020. In this mixed-method study, a quantitative method has been used to obtain the ratio of unmarked and marked themes present in the data, which are further analysed qualitatively with Halliday’s (1994) theme-rheme model. We found that the majority of the clauses use unmarked themes, while marked themes are not as frequent. Through the preference of simple Theme over multiple Theme, complex language structure (clause-complex) has been avoided. This shows the awareness of respective organizations regarding the critical role language plays in influencing the audience, especially during a global health crisis.

Abstract:
This paper centers on the employment of Theme-related theories to analyze how academic abstracts unfold coherently in English and Chinese versions. By quantitatively exploring the distribution of these theories and ways they are progressed, the findings show that the two versions adopt simple Themes and multiple Themes in a completely opposite way, and their progressive patterns also differentiate with each other significantly. However, they seem to keep a similar trend of developing unmarked and marked Themes through the two versions of the abstract.

The study investigates the predicated thematic structures in the English text and its Urdu translation. The first objective is to define the variations in the Urdu translation of English predicated thematic structures. The second objective is to define how the variations in Urdu translation affect the thematic progression. The data has been collected from the English novel Things Fall Apart by Achebe (1958) and its Urdu translation Bikharti Duniya by Ullah (1991). The UAM Corpus Tool has been used to annotate the data and to find predicated thematic structures and their thematic progression. The findings show that the Urdu translation of English predicated themes is ambiguous and misleading. The English predicated themes have been translated as Urdu unmarked and marked ideational themes. Such unmotivated displacement of themes affects thematic progression. There occur some variations in the thematic progression of translated Urdu themes.

Abstract:
The current study discusses the metafunctional diversity of nominalized thematic structures in Achebe’s (1958) English novel, Things Fall Apart and in its Urdu translation, Bikharti Duniya (Ullah, 1991). For statistical measurement, O'Donnell’s (2008) scheme of the UAM Corpus tool has been used to annotate the selected corpus. After annotation, some nominalized themes in English and Urdu have been screened to interpret their grammatical realization, functional significance, thematic progression (McCabe, 1999) and unmotivated displacements of nominalized themes. The results show that the grammatical realization of nominalized themes in English and Urdu varies due to the verbs marked with gender and numbers. Additionally, the English and the Urdu nominalized themes go parallel in theme markedness but the difference is observed when the thematic information units become rhematic information units.

Abstract:
<p>This research is based on Linguistics Systemic Functional (LSF) and it observes the fronting idea and modeling in translation. Fronting idea can be seen from the Theme and the shift of Theme in a text ant its translation. This Theme and Rheme system is as part of LSF theory, whilst the ways or systems of translation are seen from Larson’s and Catford’s theories. There are sixteen different texts taken as data analyzed in this research from five different sources. They are from (1) The British Council Bulletin, (2) Political Speech; (3) Connexions Magazine; (4) Pelangi Magazine; (5) Islamic Speech Book. Each of the text is identified based on its Thematization including Marked and Unmarked Theme, Simple and Complex Theme, Singular and Plural Themes especially the Theme-Shift. From this analysis,, it can be also known the factors that cause the shifts of the Theme. The results of the analysis are: first, Plural Topical Marked Theme is the dominant Theme in both languages. Secondly, there are seven types of Theme shift in both languages, i.e. (1) the shift in simple Theme becomes complex or vice versa, (2) the shift in singular Theme becomes plural or vice versa, (3) the shift in marked Theme becomes unmarked ones or vice versa, (4) the shift in Theme position, (5) additional Theme, (6) omission, and (7) changing Theme. Thirdly, the factors that influence the Theme shifts in translation are caused by shifts of language units from Theme or Rheme or vice versa. Besides, it is also found that the additional of language units from English to Indonesian or vice versa, such as conjunctions, circumstance of place, manner, and time. On the contrary, it can also be caused by the existence of omission of language unit from English to Indonesian or vice versa. The shifts, additions, and omissions of language units cause and influence the forms, types, and the number of Themes from Singular Theme becomes plural ones and vice versa, and from Simple Theme becomes the complex ones or vice versa.</p>

AbstractWhilst acknowledging that there are several major differences in the approach which Kant and Marx take to political philosophy this article argues that there are also several common themes. These common themes of commitment to critique, freedom, equality, human betterment and cosmopolitanism are first highlighted. Subsequently the most marked contrasts in their approaches are examined and evaluated. Although Kant demonstrates greater political wisdom and a greater respect for law, Marx shows greater insight into social and political forces. Taken together Kant and Marx present an as yet unrealized, powerful programme for political and social improvement.

Abstract:
Abstract This study aims to identify patterns of the system of theme in Spanish in 28 educational linguistics’ articles, an emerging field in Latin America. Results show a high number of textual and elaborated interpersonal Themes (especially in Conclusions), alongside a frequent choice of marked Themes (especially in Introductions) which adjust thematic strings, while the Subject is usually explicit and previous to the verb. Educationally-oriented articles tend to use more interpersonal Themes and preposed explicit Subjects, in what seems to be a disciplinary validation struggle. This research can help understand the construction of a new disciplinary discourse, connecting semantic and lexicogrammatical patterns to epistemological frameworks, while providing evidence to the realization of Theme and Subject across stages, disciplines and languages.

Abstract:
Suicide remains a serious public health problem nationally and globally. Rates of completed suicide in South Africa are reported to be 13.25 per 100,000. Data are needed to assist in the understanding of suicide and to inform evidence-based prevention efforts. This article presents the first known thematic analysis of suicide notes from South Africa. A sample of 24 suicide notes was collected from three independent sites located in Johannesburg and Durban. Thematic analysis yielded 12 themes that showed marked similarity to themes reported in comparable international studies. Two themes – ‘Expressions of love and gratitude’ and ‘Concern for those left behind’ – were found to be unique in relation to the international literature. It is recommended that further research on suicide notes be conducted in South Africa, using a standard coding scheme.

Abstract:
The themes and subjects approached by the plastic artists, in a certain period of time, in a certain geographical space, including the names of the works, indirectly reflect the existing tendencies in the respective epoch. These moments are indisputable, regardless of the evolutions of art in various cultural environments, in the centers of international art or on its peripheries, objectively reflecting the styles and priorities of the time. Thus, realism operates with certain terms that define the options of the current, different from those of impressionism, expressionism, etc. The Bessarabian visual arts are no exception in this case. More refractory and more specific, the evolution of local culture was due to the historical situation of the land, ruled by the Tsarist Empire for a century, with the late emergence of professional art and the direct influences of Russian and Ukrainian itinerants’ realism characterized by special themes. But these trends were also marked by the emergence of non-conformist representatives of Russian art, such as Vladimir Falileev, Alexander Shevchenko, Nathan Altman, participants in Bessarabian salons in the early twentieth century. More eloquently, these renewals of local art occur after the internship of Eugenia Maleshevsci in Europe, the sporadic return to the homeland of Pavel Shilingovschi, but also the appearance in Bessarabia of a true representative of the new currents, such as Auguste Baillayre.

Implementing systemic functional linguistics, in particular Theme-Rheme system as a method of teaching writing has been recommended and suggested in many studies The present small-scale paper aimed to analyze 7 texts produced by Saudi engineering students and found that six students faced problems in developing their paragraphs. Results indicate that all the students mainly used unmarked topical Themes. Four students utilized marked topical Themes with differences in terms of the number of uses. Six students used textual Themes in their texts, while three students employed interpersonal Themes in their texts. Moreover, the analysis revealed many problems committed by students. These were: the problem of confusing selection textual Themes, the problem of brand new Theme, the problem of empty Rheme, and the problem of using cohesive devices inappropriately. There was one student could develop his text consistently and cohesively. To sum up, the paper was carried out for shedding light on the problems of Saudi engineering students when writing in English; even though the data was small, bringing the notion of Theme-Rheme into/to the light can be useful for instructors to put the basic principles of Theme-Rheme into practice when teaching writing.

Abstract:
This article offers a comparative view of a Systemic Functional (SF) account of Theme in English and Spanish declarative clauses. It considers the lexicogrammatical realization of Theme in both languages and shows how Themes across the clauses construe the method of development of a phase of discourse in the respective languages, unmarked Themes scaffolding textual continuity and marked Themes scaffolding transitions between discourse phases. The paper reviews the concept of Theme in Systemic Functional Linguistics (SFL) and analyzes texts in both languages, taking into account a trinocular perspective (Matthiessen & Halliday 2009): from above, considering textual discourse functions related to the lexicogrammatical function of Theme; from roundabout, considering other textual functions in the clause as New; and from below, paying attention to the role that different ranks may play in the realization of the function under focus. In addition, the paper argues for a re-interpretation of previous SFL accounts of Spanish Theme, on the assumptions of SFL language typology. Based on the analysis of fragments of Research Articles, the paper shows how English and Spanish texts perform similar strategies to maintain the method of development of a text, through the interaction between lexical strings and reference chains with the function of Theme (Fries 1981; Martin 1992). It is shown, however, that the lexicogrammatical realization of unmarked Theme differs between these languages.

The last decade has been marked by a rapid growth in the women's health movement around the world. There has been a marked shift in activities away from the developed countries, as campaigns increase in intensity in Africa, Asia, and Latin America. The practice of women's health politics has also become increasingly international with sustained and effective collaboration across the north-south divide. Both the goals of these campaigns and their methods vary with the circumstances of the women involved. But despite this diversity, common themes can be identified: reproductive self-determination; affordable, effective, and humane medical care; satisfaction of basic needs; a safe workplace; and freedom from violence.

Abstract:
Background: To improve accountability and reflect patient and societal needs, the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada proposed Competence by Design (CBD) for all residency programs. This study compares neurosurgical patient values and expectations of their neurosurgeon to resident competences proposed by CBD curriculum. Methods: Semi-structured interviews of 30 neurosurgical patients and family members were recorded, transcribed and analyzed for themes. Results: Of the first 13 interviews (8 males, 5 females; median age 54), 10 had English as a first language, all completed post-secondary education, and 8 had a brain tumor. In addition to expecting excellent surgical skills and comprehensive medical knowledge, participants expected “good” neurosurgeons to be human (compassionate, empathetic, no ego), transparent communicators, accountable, passionate, collaborative, emotionally composed and highly intuitive. However, there were marked differences in minimum set of competencies required and the expectations of the thresholds to determine competence for neurosurgeons. Conclusions: Patient perspectives show commonalities and marked differences of the expected competencies compared to CBD and significant variability of the thresholds of competence. Further investigations should explore these themes in other specialties. The existing CBD curriculum will need to expand its framework to include humanistic values to improve public perceptions of competence.

Abstract:
This paper focuses on two concepts frequently used and studied by researchers: corporate social responsibility (CSR) and sustainability. In recent decades, many authors have questioned the relevance and connection between the two topics. A bibliometric analysis will be carried out with SciMAT over the period 2003–2021, to understand the evolution and relationship of the aforementioned terms, but also to show the relevance of the link between the different clusters, and to observe the breakdown of the driving themes over the period 2003–2021. The final purpose is to draw conclusions and indicate possible trends that will drive the path of CSR and sustainability, thus increasing scientific knowledge. The results show that the number of articles related to CSR and sustainability is steadily increasing and that the main driving themes have been CSR, sustainability and environment. Furthermore, a link between CSR, sustainability and business has been found in the analysis of the different thematic networks. The future direction of the research could be marked by a further development of the new driving themes, among which stakeholder focus and branding image stand out.

Abstract:
The IWA's BiofilmVI conference presented a wide range of research on biofilm systems. Particularly popular themes were nitrogen removal, mathematical modelling and microbial ecology. Emerging themes included biofilms with membranes, pathogens in biofilms, biofouling and detachment. Within microbial ecology and mathematical modelling, emphasis was given to N-removal systems, particularly involving nitrifiers and Anammox bacteria. Both themes also recognised the importance of biofilm detachment. Although biofilms on membranes gained attention, little interest was exhibited towards linking biofilms with other advanced materials, such as ceramics, conductors, semi-conductors or nano-materials. Research presented at BiofilmVI marked major advances in improving water sustainability towards removing BOD and N, but did not address many emerging contaminants, such as oxidised contaminants and endocrine disruptors. Attention to energy sustainability, such as with bio-hydrogen or microbial fuel cells, was minimal. Thus, research reported at BiofilmVI was strong towards “improving the expected” with regard to BOD and N removal, but not yet focused on “exploiting the unexpected” to deal with emerging pollutants and bio-energy.

Abstract:
Particularly in the last decades, due to the rapid development of theoretical perspectives across disciplines, the notion of gender has evolved into an umbrella term that today refers to a broad array of themes: from gender-defined social behaviour to sexual and reproductive rights and to matters related to control over one’s body. Following major trends in the humanities and social sciences, also the field of Islamic studies has been contributing to the ongoing scholarly discussion on gender. Two recent volumes that focus specifically on gender issues in Muslim societies (Duderija et al., 2020; Howe, 2020) have marked the expansion of the field, away from dealing primarily with topics related to Muslim women and femininity to a cautious but firm engagement with a broader spectrum of gender-related themes.

This paper examines the evolution of research in Entrepreneurship published in Web of Science, a reference database. A bibliometric content analysis has been carried out as part of this investigation, allowing for a longitudinal study of the main research topics dealt with over time, ranging from classic topics such as its conception to more recent realities that include Social and Sustainable Entrepreneurship. This paper locates research trends by studying the evolution of citations and by incorporating use metrics. The results point to the existence of seven cognitive fronts that have marked the field’s growth and conceptual evolution. Furthermore, evidence is presented that shows how innovation has historically been the thread that links all the core themes. The topics and trends detected contribute specially to advancing the current discussion on entrepreneurship and coordinating future research efforts.

Abstract:
AbstractThis article surveys the Thatcher administration's approach to inner-city policy. It uses recently opened archives to reignite the debate over how far these years marked a radical break with past practices towards market-oriented approaches. The first part explains why inner cities became such a central issue for the Conservative party, running through all areas of domestic policy and taking up a vast amount of legislative time. The second part details some of the transatlantic neo-liberal ideas that blamed inner-city ills on government intervention, which were increasingly influential amongst senior Conservatives. The third section shows how little free market ideology actually succeeded in directing government policy, which more often than not saw an expansion of the role of the state. Antagonism with local authorities is revealed to have been a much more important and influential factor. These themes are expanded in the fourth section, which charts the Action for Cities policy drive of Thatcher's final term.

Abstract:
The Prayer Book controversy of 1927-8 was not merely ‘the echo of dead themes’, as was alleged by A. J. P. Taylor. Disputes between Evangelicals and Anglo-Catholics, which lay at the root of the crisis, were still at a height in the 1920s and 1930s. Anglo-Catholic confidence was shown in their vast Congresses, commencing in 1920 (and lasting until the 1960s), and in the celebrations and publications which marked the centenary of the Oxford Movement in 1933. Such confidence naturally caused Evangelicals and Broad Churchmen to look to their defences. Moreover, while in England anti-Romanism was less marked than before 1914, in Scotland it reached a high (if belated) peak in the 1920s in reaction to Irish Catholic immigration.

Abstract:
ObjectiveThe COVID-19 pandemic has transformed healthcare delivery in the USA, but there has been little empirical work describing the impact of these changes on clinicians. We conducted a study to address the following question: how has the pandemic impacted US clinicians’ professional roles and relationships?DesignInductive thematic analysis of semi-structured interviews.SettingClinical settings across the USA in April and May of 2020.ParticipantsClinicians with leadership and/or clinical roles during the COVID-19 pandemic.MeasuresEmergent themes related to professional roles and relationships.ResultsSixty-one clinicians participated in semi-structured interviews. Study participants were practising in 15 states across the USA, and the majority were White physicians from large academic centres. Three overlapping and inter-related themes emerged from qualitative analysis of interview transcripts: (1) disruption: boundaries between work and home life became blurred and professional identity and usual clinical roles were upended; (2) constructive adaptation: some clinicians were able to find new meaning in their work and described a spirit of collaboration, shared goals, open communication and mutual respect among colleagues; and (3) discord and estrangement: other clinicians felt alienated from their clinical roles and experienced demoralising work environments marked by division, value conflicts and mistrust.ConclusionsClinicians encountered marked disruption of their professional roles, identities and relationships during the pandemic to which they and their colleagues responded in a range of different ways. Some described a spirit of collaboration and camaraderie, while others felt alienated by their new roles and experienced work environments marked by division, value conflicts and mistrust. Our findings highlight the importance of effective teamwork and efforts to support clinician well-being during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Abstract:
From the colonial period onwards, there has been a marked expansion in the range of formal and informal institutions enforcing regimes of law and social order across Africa. At the same time, practices and ideas about law, justice, policing and professionalism have proliferated, drawing on a diverse range of influences. This themed part issue explores the lived realities of law and social order in colonial and postcolonial Africa. Building on a rich and growing literature, the articles examine how diverse actors such as ‘ordinary’ citizens, the police and legal professionals understand, enact and contest ideas about law and social order. The articles that follow adopt different disciplinary perspectives and draw on fieldwork from Nigeria, South Africa and Zimbabwe. The papers also illustrate how thinking about law and social order can cast a light on important themes for Africanist scholars, such as processes of formal and informal institutionalization on the continent and the public's investment in such institutions.

Abstract:
In 2019, Serbia marked the 20th anniversary of the end of the Kosovo War through numerous commemorations that received significant media coverage. Through qualitative, ideographical research, this article explores how the Serbian media constructs the collective memory of the 1999 NATO intervention. By using thematic analysis and coding, the article analyses a total of ten newspaper articles from two newspaper outlets. Three themes emerged from the analysis: 1. “Unjustified and premeditated bombing campaign”; 2. “Do not forget Milica!”; and 3. “No justice?”. The thread that unites all three themes is the element of victimhood that the media frames and positions at the centre of collective memory. The article concludes that this view of victimhood is not an anomaly in history, but is aligned with the existing collective memory through the continuous emphasis on the suffering of Serbs.

For decades academic curricula for the gifted have been marked by attempts to enrich offerings in order to accommodate to intellectual differences evidenced by this type of exceptionality. However, youngsters have usually been exposed to traditional programs of physical activity. It was the purpose of this article to demonstrate useful ways in which physical activity programs may be made meaningful to creative and gifted children and youth. Themes have been recommended for the guidance of physical education programs, including exposure to ideas inherent in motion itself, as well as stimulating cognitive processes expressed in physical actions. The article concludes with a model suggesting ways in which curricula decisions, as well as cognitive processes may be shifted to gifted learners. Ways in which various themes presented may be incorporated into the teaching model outlined, are also discussed at the conclusion of the article.

Abstract:
This article presents the evaluation of written paragraphs which described twenty-one drug abuse prevention “themes” contained in thirty-five separate activities, as part of the process of curriculum development targeting Continuation High School students. The goal was to determine which activities were most preferred by these youth. The paragraphs consisted of descriptions of traditional drug abuse prevention program activities, alternative activities using the themes underlying traditional activities, and novel activities generated from newly developed themes. The study was conducted with seven Continuation High Schools. Three hundred and fifteen students participated in this study. Each student rated detailed written descriptions of five activities. Classrooms were randomly assigned to different combinations of paragraphs. An analysis of variance indicated that there were significant differences in preferences among activities, with a marked preference for the alternative and novel activity presentations. Females, Latinos, older students, and non-marijuana users rated the activities higher overall. There were no significant interactions between demographic variables and order of activity preference. If there is a limit in amount of allotted time and resources, the theme study is an appropriate and cost-effective tool for gaining important information for health curricula development.

Abstract:
This article uses quantitative and qualitative approaches to review 75 years of international policy reports on antimicrobial resistance (AMR). Our review of 248 policy reports and expert consultation revealed waves of political attention and repeated reframings of AMR as a policy object. AMR emerged as an object of international policy-making during the 1990s. Until then, AMR was primarily defined as a challenge of human and agricultural domains within the Global North that could be overcome via ‘rational’ drug use and selective restrictions. While a growing number of reports jointly addressed human and agricultural AMR selection, international organisations (IOs) initially focused on whistleblowing and reviewing data. Since 2000, there has been a marked shift in the ecological and geographic focus of AMR risk scenarios. The Global South and One Health (OH) emerged as foci of AMR reports. Using the deterritorialised language of OH to frame AMR as a Southern risk made global stewardship meaningful to donors and legitimised pressure on low-income and middle-income countries to adopt Northern stewardship and surveillance frameworks. It also enabled IOs to move from whistleblowing to managing governance frameworks for antibiotic stewardship. Although the environmental OH domain remains neglected, realisation of the complexity of necessary interventions has increased the range of topics targeted by international action plans. Investment nonetheless continues to focus on biomedical innovation and tends to leave aside broader socioeconomic issues. Better knowledge of how AMR framings have evolved is key to broadening participation in international stewardship going forward.

Abstract:
Fine Lines is a study investigating the language used in adverts for female facial cosmetics (excluding makeup) in UK Vogue magazine. The study queries whether this has been affected by the introduction and rise in popularity of minimally invasive aesthetic procedures to alleviate the signs of facial ageing. The contemporary cultural landscape is explored: this includes the ubiquitous nature of advertising as well as the growth of the skincare market. Emergent thematic analysis of selected advertisements showed a change in the language used before the introduction of the aesthetic procedures (1992 and 1993) compared with later years (2006 and 2007). We have noted a decline in numbers of advertisements within some themes (nourishing in particular showed a marked fall in number of mentions) while others have shown increases (those offering protection against UV radiation and pollution increased by 50% in the later data set). The remaining thematic categories were relatively constant over the period of study, though the emphasis shifted within the themes over time. This article concludes by asserting that the language has changed, that the vocabulary has become more inventive and that skincare products appear to be marketed as complementary to cosmetic procedures. In addition, some of the products appear to be being marketed as luxury items, something to be bought because owning and using it gives you pleasure and bestows prestige on the owner.

Abstract:
The time poem in Eccl 3.1–8 reflects a marked structure and progression of themes. These connections suggest that the initial lines of vv. 2, 5, and 8 open their respective stanzas by focusing on a similar theme: war and peace. This thread clarifies the meaning of Qohelet’s enigmatic throwing and gathering stones, activities for which no fewer than nine interpretations have been suggested. While interpreters have favored a reference to sexual intercourse, this view is unlikely. I contend that a preferable solution modifies an earlier interpretation relating the throwing and gathering of stones to acts of wartime and peacetime. The throwing away of stones relates to the demobilization of the military, while the gathering of stones relates to the mobilization for war (1 Sam 17.40; 2 Chron 26.14–15). This interpretation offers a more consistent approach to the themes of war and peace developed in the poem’s stanzas.

Abstract:
The reciprocal association between working self and autobiographical retrieval is illustrated in the self-memory system model. This study attempted to investigate the self-memory system model in the context of memories of the 1947 Partition of British India. This event, which dramatically altered the lives of many survivors, generated indelible memories. In this study, the published Partition narratives of displaced Punjabi and Sindhi survivors were content analyzed, and themes were extracted. The working self of the Partition survivors triggered recall of this event, whose evaluation varied along three dimensions, namely, avoidance, rumination, and reflection. The theme of repression was central to avoidance narratives. Furthermore, rumination narratives were marked by nostalgia and a sense of alienation. Finally, the themes of cognitive reappraisal, self-complexity, and self-discrepancy resolution surfaced in reflection narratives. The emerging research findings highlight the centrality of emotion regulation in autobiographical retrieval and its implications for well-being.

Abstract:
Genomic imprinting is a form of epigenetic inheritance whereby the regulation of a gene or chromosomal region is dependent on the sex of the transmitting parent. During gametogenesis, imprinted regions of DNA are differentially marked in accordance to the sex of the parent, resulting in parent-specific expression. While mice are the primary research model used to study genomic imprinting, imprinted regions have been described in a broad variety of organisms, including other mammals, plants, and insects. Each of these organisms employs multiple, interrelated, epigenetic mechanisms to maintain parent-specific expression. While imprinted genes and imprint control regions are often species and locus-specific, the same suites of epigenetic mechanisms are often used to achieve imprinted expression. This review examines some examples of the epigenetic mechanisms responsible for genomic imprinting in mammals, plants, and insects.

Context New approaches to education and pedagogy are needed in athletic training education to better support developmental benchmarks that cultivate skills for lifelong learning. Objective Explore and understand students' perceptions of their education and how those perceptions support their development toward self-authorship through the complexity of their meaning making. Design Qualitative, grounded theory. Setting Division I Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education athletic training programs. Patients or Other Participants Twelve participants (9 female, 3 male; age = 24 ± 2 years) in their second year of athletic training education were recruited for the study. Of the 12 participants, 11 were engaged in an immersive clinical experience. Data Collection and Analysis Participants engaged in a semistructured video conference interview. Data were analyzed using grounded theory approach to understand the complexity of students' ways of making meaning cognitively, intrapersonally, and interpersonally. Data saturation, peer review, member checks, and theoretical triangulation were used to establish credibility. Results Participants exhibited meaning making in 2 distinct ways: (1) external guidance and (2) movement toward internal guidance. The categories were further broken down by theme. Placing responsibility for knowledge on authorities, need for step-by-step guidance, and seeking approval marked the themes of external guidance. Building confidence and role identity development marked themes of movement toward internal guidance. Conclusions Participants who were reliant on external guidance required external authorities for knowledge acquisition and learning. Some participants demonstrated deeper meaning making when discussing their experiences with clinical education.

Abstract:
This study analyses 25 nursing care reports written by nursing students majoring in the International Class of Nursing Diploma at a higher education institution in Indonesia. The main research focus is to assess the cohesion and coherence of nursing care reports in relation to their grades. The Systemic Functional Linguistics framework, with a focus on the textual metafunction, serves as a tool for analyzing cohesion, Thematic structures and Thematic development of the texts. The analysis of text cohesion revealed that all texts predominantly used lexical cohesion and reference to build internal ties within the texts. Reiteration of the same lexical items throughout the texts and heavy use of personal pronouns indicated the exploitation of these systems. In terms of coherence via Thematic structure, it was found that textual Themes were predominantly used. All the texts relied heavily on unmarked Themes, with no evidence indicating a proportional use of marked and unmarked Themes. In terms of Thematic development, Theme reiteration was the main method of text development for all texts. However, a few instances of Zig-zag Thematic development were found in texts in the higher graded categories. None of the texts used multiple Rheme patterns as an alternative method of text development.

Abstract:
Recount text is a staple material taught in the first year of Indonesian secondary schools yet research on this dominant ELT unit is limited despite the common observation of many students struggling to produce a well-written recount text. To address this research gap and problem, this study conducted a textual meaning analysis in the texts written by tenth-grade Vocational School. This study aimed to figure out the types of themes shown in 14 recount texts written by 14 students from two different vocational schools with other majors. The approach used the content analysis method and belonged to descriptive qualitative research. Content analysis is used as the technique to analyse the data considering Eggins’ 1994 Systemic Functional Linguistics (SFL) theory. The analysis revealed that most of the themes used are Unmarked Topical Themes. Every student has a different way of delivering messages in the Recount text that they made. Moreover, the researchers found Marked Topical Theme, Mood Adjunct Interpersonal Theme, Conjunction Textual Theme, Conjunctive Textual Theme, Continuative Textual Theme, and Multiple Theme. The result of the present study is hoped to provide insights, gained from observing patterns of Theme and Rheme relations, for secondary English teachers’ endeavours to help improve students’ cohesion.

The European Conference on Case-Based Reasoning (CBR) in 2008 marked 15 years of international and European CBR conferences where almost seven hundred research papers were published. In this report we review the research themes covered in these papers and identify the topics that are active at the moment. The main mechanism for this analysis is a clustering of the research papers based on both co-citation links and text similarity. It is interesting to note that the core set of papers has attracted citations from almost three thousand papers outside the conference collection so it is clear that the CBR conferences are a sub-part of a much larger whole. It is remarkable that the research themes revealed by this analysis do not map directly to the sub-topics of CBR that might appear in a textbook. Instead they reflect the applications-oriented focus of CBR research, and cover the promising application areas and research challenges that are faced.

Abstract:
The present paper discusses the marking of objects in ditransitive clauses. On the basis of the factors conditioning the marking, three strategies are distinguished. These are labeled as object-, animacy- and role-based strategies. In the first case, the mere objecthood (i.e. the contrast to the Agent) determines the marking of objects. In the animacy-based strategy, animate Themes and Recipients are encoded in the same way as animate Patients, while the marking of inanimate Themes corresponds to inanimate Patients. In the role-based strategy, Theme and Recipient are marked on the basis of the semantic roles they bear. All the types are examined in light of cross-linguistic data, in addition to which the rationale behind the types is also discussed. It is shown that the three strategies suffice to explain object marking in ditransitives and that the strategies can all be explained on the basis of the nature of three-participant events and the principles of economy and distinctiveness.
