Abstract:
Marital rape has become a hot topic of conversation in Indonesia in recent times, along with the ratification of the RUU-PKS. Some people consider it a crime; others consider it unreasonable, so they think that the RUU-PKS is unnecessary in Indonesia. Then, is it true that marital rape is a crime? Why do so many still think of it as making it up if it is true? This topic is essential because marital rape is a form of violence that seems to be legalized in society. Whereas, National Commission on Violence Against Women reported that the cases of marital rape are always more than 100 cases every year. By using the literature research method that refers to the descriptive-qualitative research model and using Kate Millett's sexual-political theory. That marital rape is a crime that falls into sexual violence because it has an element of coercion in sexual intercourse. In addition, people who disagree with the criminalization of marital rape are caused by the existence of a patriarchal mindset in the culture of Indonesian society. Inherited customs and misconceptions of religion influence this mindset taught long ago. This research aims to explain why the RUU-PKS could be a tool to educate the public about marital rape so that it can gradually eliminate marital rape and patriarchy in Indonesia.

The article explores the ongoing dispute connected with land rights in the district of Wonosobo, Central Java, within the framework of state formation and sovereignty. It is argued that in many places in Indonesia and Central Java, local landscapes have become sites of violent struggles for sovereignty more broadly. An analytical distinction between modern and traditional forms of power is made and ethnographically explored, but it is argued that, rather than being separate entities, both forms become conflated in the struggle for sovereignty in various spheres, creating hybrid forms of power. Abstract:
Abstract Generally, marriage is a moment of happiness, but it cannot deny that when marriage occurs, it brings misery in it such as Domestic Violence. There are several causes of Domestic Violence which split into various aspects, and one of them is sexual violence. This often makes the wife in a weak position or has a more inferior position, making her victim of her husband. The marital status that binds the wife as the victim and the husband as the perpetrator should not abolish the woman's rights over her body. The wife's position as a victim causes her physical and psychological traumatization, making the community also take responsibility by providing moral support. Not necessarily blaming the victim and justifying the behaviour of the perpetrator because it is still considered forbidden for the community to interfere in household matters. Any form of violence and its occurrence is not something that can be accepted and justified in the rule of law in each country. Therefore, the purpose of this paper is to discuss acts related to sexual harassment without the victim's consent even in a marriage bond, known as marital rape. In Indonesia, the criminal act of domestic violence is regulated in Act No. 23 of 2004, which concerns the elimination of domestic violence, requires a clear and firm implementation, because the law must provide protection to victims and the accountability of perpetrators of such violence must be adjusted to the applied laws and regulations.

Abstract:
This study examines sexual exploitation and violence against prostituted children in East Java, Indonesia. Children who are involved in the commercial sex industry are generally prone to become victims of exploitation, violent acts, and other child abuse. This case study employs a qualitative research method to examine the various hardships experienced by prostituted children in East Java, Indonesia. The researchers interviewed ten prostituted children, seven “grey chickens” (female high school students doubling as prostituted children), eight former prostituted children, five pimps, eight procurers, and seven male customers in Surabaya City and Pasuruan Regency. This study found that, in the Indonesian commercial sex industry, prostituted children generally experience severe exploitation and violent acts. The children’s struggle to survive in the Indonesian prostitution business is a challenging condition because of their weak bargaining position: their subordinate status in the Indonesian patriarchal ideology, their weak position as children confronting adults, as well as their low socioeconomic position. The efforts to make policies to prevent exploitation and violence against prostituted children by the government and non-government agencies thus should take into account the conditions of the prostituted children as well as the driving factors for the child prostitution business that takes place in Indonesia.

Financial literacy is one of the relevant facts in improving the economy. The purpose of this study was to examine the influence of demographic factors (i.e., marital status, education level, income, and age) and financial socialization agent on financial literacy. Using online and offline questionnaire survey from 100 respondents in Surabaya, East Java, and the study revealed that education level, personal income, and financial socialization agent, give the positive effect, while the marital status and age does not affect financial literacy. This result implies that the government can focus on educating the development and improvement of financial literacy for the society. Abstract:
Even though Law Number 23 of 2004 concerning on the Elimination of Domestic Violence was promulgated fifteen years ago, the number of domestic violence against women has not significantly decreased. The Law has not set concrete actions that may fall under the domestic violence that can be punished, particularly in terms of sexual abuse psychological violence, and negligence in household towards women. This research aims to analyze domestic violence against women in this Law and the conducts that are considered to be domestic violence which is commonly found in daily life in Indonesia. A purely qualitative research method encompassing document analysis of key documents in Indonesia and the Anti-Domestic Violence Law 2004 is adopted in this paper. The research reveals that This Law is particularly protecting women from household violence in Indonesia. The law has recognized physical violence, sexual violence, psychological violence, and negligence as sorts of domestic violence against women in household although it might find difficult to enforce the law when dealing with marital rape regarding lack of reports from victims and polygamy concerning circumstances that can be used to criminalize the perpetrators.

This research would analyze demographic and social factors underlying educated unemployment in Central Java in 2018 from supply side only. The data used was raw data on the result of National Labor Force Survey (SAKERNAS) conducted by BPS-Statistics of Central Java Province on February with 3375 respondents being the sample. The methods employed were descriptive and binary logistic regression analyses. The result of research showed that age, family member number, sex, and relationship to household head, marital status, residence area, and on-the-job training variables simultaneously affected the predisposition of educated work force to be unemployed. Meanwhile, partially family member number and residence area variables did not affect an individual’s predisposition to be educated unemployed

Abstract:
Marital rape is part of the form of rape in domestic violence. Its limited characteristics in the family sphere and cultural construction make marital rape sometimes escapes the attention of victims and also the community. In Indonesia, marital rape is still considered as abnormally and impossible incident, it is considered as impossible act for a husband to rape his own wife or vice versa. In several cases had occurred in Indonesia, marital rape become a trigger for physical violence that led to murder (homicide). For example in the two cases of homicide has occurred in Serang City in 2021 and Cilegon 2019. In these two cases, marital rape occurred which led to murder or loss of life. This paper will examine women who are victims of marital rape who are designated as murder suspects, a case study in Serang City. This study uses a normative legal research method with a statutory approach and cases approach. The results of this study indicate that the determination of woman victims of marital rape as murder suspects in the perspective of victimology does not consider the perspective of the victim's role in the occurrence of a crime. There are two criminal acts happening simultaneously; marital rape and murder. First, the husband as the perpetrator of marital rape against his wife who later becomes a victim of murder due to self defense (the second case). Therefore, in the theory of victim precipitation, the victim plays a role in creating the crime it-self. The causes of marital rape victims who later become perpetrators of murder must also be considered about. The role of the perpetrators of marital rape is active participation which then resulted in his death. The things that attend in this situation must and need to be considered by law enforcement officials, from the first thing when conducting an investigation. This will affect the next law enforcement process. Therefore, victim precipitation must be considered by investigators in reviewing the chronology of the case before determining the suspect in order to fulfill the rights and protection of the actual victims.

Abstract:
One of the social problems that existed in Indonesia is high rates of early marriage or child marriage. Based on its absolute number, Indonesian has been one of top ten country with the highest number of child marriage all over the world. Early marriage is defined as a marital union by women under 16 years old. Many factors affect early marriage, such as education factor, economy factor, and culture factor. Furthermore, early marriage may have effects on deteriorating physical and psychological health, low educational attainment, and increasing risk of domestic violence. By utilising 2017 IDHS dataset, this study aims to examine the determinants of early marriage in Indonesia. This study applies binary logistic regression method for the data analysis. The results of this study show that variables significantly affect the status of early marriage are marital status at the first sexual intercourse, residential type, partner’s working status, women’s education, and partner’s education. Moreover, variables that do not significantly affect the status of early marriage are women’s working status, wealth index, and interaction between women’s education and wealth index.

Abstract:
From horrific accounts of men decapitated to “ordinary” accounts of stolen motorcycles, the routine beating and killing of alleged criminals by mobs (massa) has become common in Indonesia. This article examines the patterns ofkeroyokan—mobbing—from 1995 through 2004 in four provinces and highlights the temporal, spatial, and substantive variations of this phenomenon. Drawing from a database of provincial and local news clippings in Bali, Bengkulu, West Java, and South Kalimantan and in-depth case studies and interviews, this article shows that mobbing varies considerably. Its causes are nationalandlocal. The temporal data show that nationally the most important factor to influence levels of mobbing was the introduction of decentralization. The power vacuum that resulted from the policy decision to transfer authority from the center to localities increased local violence. Yet this macrolevel explanation is inadequate to show the spatial variation and different forms of mobbing violence. To understand the causes of these dimensions of variation, one has to move away from macronational approaches measuring violence and include a more microethnographic local approach. A richer understanding of mobbing must be locally rooted. This article uses three case studies to illustrate the centrality of local factors affecting this form of violence. The case studies suggest that mobbing is shaped by the acquiescence of actors in local communities and local learning. The article draws attention to the need to incorporate local data and methods into an analysis of violence in Indonesia and to appreciate varied daily rituals of violence as reservoirs of conflict.

The 251 participants from different regions in Indonesia, such as East Java, Central Java, West Java, and outside Java participated in this study. The confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) approach was used as the main method in data analysis. The result showed that this six-aspect contextualized version of the scale was fit. The MIMIC model showed that this scale was not influenced by covariate variables, such as age, domicile, sex, marital status, length of time using online transportation, types of online transportation services, and occupation (except private employees). For further research, the exploratory study of risk perception and analysis of the roles of socioeconomic factors are suggested to do.

Abstract:
This article contributes to the literature on the geography of unionism through an examination of the processes shaping women's labour activism in Indonesia. Based on in-depth interviews and survey data, the study is a comparative investigation of two villages in West Java. The research investigates both the factors that women factory workers consider when deciding whether to participate in labour protests, as well as the gender-specific pressures on women to refrain from participating in labour activism in the two villages. The study explores the ways in which ideologies of motherhood and femininity operate differently in the two communities and within groups of women with different migration and marital statuses. In sum, the article contends that in order to develop a more complete analysis of the geographies of labour activism, research must take seriously the specificity of community-scale negotiations over gender norms and expectations, and address women's active roles in the on-going production of gender relations and spaces of activism.

Abstract:
RADICALIZATION AND THE DEVELOPMENT OF INCLUSIVE CULTURE IN WEST JAVA, INDONESIA. The aim of the Community Engagement (PPM) research is to explain efforts to deal with radicalization so that the country is not centric in the form of inclusive cultural development. The description seeks to trace the interpretation of Jatinangor District, Sumedang Regency, West Java Province. This was motivated by the tendency to strengthen radical understanding which was observed in West Java after the Reformation era in Indonesia. Strengthening radicalization can trigger the development of a culture of intolerance, verbal and physical violence, and exclusivism that is not impossible to bring the potential for national disintegration or threat to security in Indonesia. The study attachments in this PPM are Problem-Based Learning and Community-Based Research (CBR). Especially, in constructing ideas that are relevant to efforts so that problems in the community can be faced optimally. The formation of an inclusive culture is thought to enable the openness (inclusiveness) of society, tolerance, pluralism, collaboration and cooperation to control the diversity of identities in society. PPM is a follow-up from previous research which found that efforts to deal with radicalization were still state-centric. Abstract:
In July 1998, two months after President Soeharto resigned from power, several reports appeared in Indonesian and international media of a series of killings taking place in Java. The killings initially involved the murders of people suspected of practising black magic (dukun santet). Many of the alleged sorcerers and victims were kyai, venerated scholar/teachers of Islam who head boarding schools (pesantren). The bloodshed, entailing the killing of several hundred people over a period of five months, from July to November 1998, has come to be known as the ‘ninja killings’, named after the fabled Japanese martial arts experts with supernatural powers. The reason for this name is that the perpetrators of the killings, rumour had it, were dressed in black-clad ninja fashion and possessed mystical powers similar to their Japanese counterparts.

Abstract:
Pesantren (Islamic boarding school) is the oldest Islamic institution in Indonesia that often affiliated to the largest mass Muslim organization Nahdlatul Ulama. This organization is well known for its stance to uphold moderate, tolerance Islam and accepting pluralistic state based on Pancasila. Pesantren also often referred as the barometer to understand the way of thinking of Muslims grass root in Indonesia because many Islamic figures in Indonesian village are alumni of pesantren. There are debates among scholars on whether religious violence has a root in religious doctrine or it is caused by factors outside religion such as poverty or injustice. By assuming that both inside and outside factors have significant contribution to violence or radicalism this study will discuss the doctrine that potentially can be used to justify violence and intolerance by reviewing the opinion of pesantren leaders in West Java on jihad, violence or intolerance and power. This study is aimed to examine whether the commitment of Muslim leaders in national level on democracy and plurality is supported by grass root particularly from pesantren leaders. Overall the study found that although they agree that democracy is compatible with Islam, this study reveals that their acceptance to pluralism still be questioned as evidenced by almost half of them supported theocratic caliphate carry out by radical group. Although many argued that pesantren promotes tolerance and pluralism, nevertheless this study shows that some of their teaching tacitly supported violence act in the name of religion that will tarnished the effort of Indonesia to synchronize Islam, democracy and modernity. It means that many of them actually not wholeheartedly accepted democracy and pluralism.

This research aims to reveal the identity of Indonesian Arab women in terms of nasab and kafa’ah marriage. To analyze the research finding the researchers use Social Practice theory from Bourdieu – Habitus and Doxa concept and the Communication Identity theory of Hecht. The lineage of the Arabs is patrilineal; therefore, the Arab men are more flexible in terms of choosing a mate. However, Arab women have to struggle hard if they are going to marry men from different groups. This research uses critical ethnographic methods, and the data is obtained through observations and interviews. The results show that the identity of Arab women is historically formed by Arab ethnic patriarchal culture from its home region of Yemen. The position of Solo Arab women as a subordinate group that is socially marginalized is due to the narrowness of women's space. Women are considered as a group with no extensive knowledge of the tradition of nasab and kafaah marriage.

Abstract:
Abstract: The practice of marital rape or known as marital rape is a discussion that is often considered a contradictio in terminis which is interpreted as a combination of contradictory words, because currently rape is limited outside marriage. Rape in marriage is a form of inequality in gender justice, the assumption is that men/husbands have an autonomous right to force their wives to have sex, while women/wives are legitimized by construction to devote themselves to accepting whatever is done in marriage. This should not be in line with what has been regulated in the Marriage Law, which basically states that the purpose of marriage is to form a happy and eternal family (household) based on the One Godhead. Marital rape can be defined as coercion of sexual activity by one party without regard to the other party. The purpose of this study is to explain the basis for regulating marital rape in positive law in Indonesia and Islamic law. The research method used is juridical-normative, namely research by analyzing the provisions of laws and regulations relating to marital rape by connecting the basic arrangements in Islamic law. The results of this study indicate that domestic rape or known as marital rape is part of sexual violence in the household as regulated in the PKDRT Law. Meanwhile, in Islam the essence of marriage is interpreted as mistaqan ghalidzan or a sacred and strong bond, then the practice of forced sexual intercourse is considered an inequality of rights and obligations of sexual relations in marriage. Islam teaches the principle of mu'asyarah bil ma'ruf, namely a good and voluntary relationship. in having sexual relations by not monopolizing sexuality in the name of religion because it is clearly against the Shari'a.Absktrak: Marital rape menjadi pembahasan yang sering dianggap sebagai suatu contradictio in terminis, karena pengaturan hukum tentang pemerkosaan masih terbatas di luar perkawinan.

Abstract:
The objective of this article is to examine the impact of international female labor migration on left-behind parents by taking into consideration the daughters' marital status. Data were taken from in-depth interviews with 37 left-behind parents of migrant women in East Java Province. The study showed that left-behind parents had limited access to the remittances sent by married daughters, except when they carried out childcare responsibilities. Parents of unmarried daughters had some access to remittances, but this varied according to the economic conditions of the family. Left-behind parents were concerned about the safety of their daughters overseas, the marriage prospects of unmarried daughters, the stability of their daughters' marriages and the welfare of left-behind grandchildren. Because the migration of married and unmarried daughters has diverse impacts on left-behind parents, this should be considered in programs that aim to mitigate potential negative impacts of women's migration.

This paper examines the sexual agency exercised by married Muslim women in Bandung, Indonesia, in their marital relationships. Dominant discourses teach that women should obey their husbands, and most women believe that they should serve their husbands sexually whenever required. Sex is a taboo subject and women should not discuss sex or initiate sex. Their sexual desire is not acknowledged. However, in-depth interviews with 42 married women, and some husbands, found that a few exceptional women managed to challenge or negotiate around these dominant discourses. The paper examines their exercise of agency with regard to the initiation of sex, positions and practices that they prefer, their ability to say no to sex, ways to avoid having sex and their demand for mutual pleasure in sex.

Abstract:
Substantial economic development in Indonesia has dramatically increased inequality in the last decade. This issue will hinder the country’s long-term economic development as well as creating socioeconomic instability and violence. This study analysed the effects of macroeconomic factors such as gross regional domestic product, investment, unemployment rate, and labour-force participation, on Indonesian provinces’ inequality. Since the economic development in Indonesia is mostly concentrated on Java Island, a spatial based analysis was appropriate. In addition, we also considered a method that enabled a specific level of inequality modelling, since previous studies used a mean-based analysis. Therefore, we proposed a spatial quantile autoregressive (SQAR) technique. The results showed that the Gini index of Indonesian provinces had a significant positive spatial autocorrelation (SA). Regions with similar Gini index values tended to cluster together. In addition, local analysis of the SA showed Java Island as a region that was characterized by high inequality, while Sumatra and Kalimantan Island were not. By contrast, the SQAR model suggested that there were various effects of macroeconomic factors on inequality at different levels of quantile. As a consequence, distinct approaches to handling inequality should be taken for provinces with low, medium, and high Gini index values.

Abstract:
Sexual violence against wives that occurs in the household is better known by the general public as marital rape which is defined as rape that occurs in a marriage bond. However, a broader understanding understood by various groups regarding marital rape is a wife who receives acts of sexual violence by her husband or coercion by all against her wife to carry out sexual activities without considering the condition of the wife. Or forcing to have sexual relations in ways that are not fair or do not like the wife. In Indonesia, there have been several court decisions regarding the issue of sexual violence in the household, one of which is Decision Number 899/Pid.Sus/2014/PN.Dps which was carried out by Tohari. The panel of judges in deciding this case using Article 46 of Law no. 23 of 2004 concerning the Elimination of Domestic Violence The judge's considerations are in accordance with the legal facts that have been proven by the public prosecutor that the defendant intentionally committed an act of domestic violence that caused physical injury to the victim's body and genitals. And the elements have been fulfilled, namely the element of every person and the element of committing acts of sexual violence. Of the aggravating and mitigating factors, one of the aggravating factors was that the defendant had hurt and injured the victim's witness who was the defendant's wife and the defendant did not feel guilty about what he had done. While mitigating factors are the defendant has never been convicted and the defendant is elderly. Abstract:
West Java Province is often assumed to be the center of radical Islam growth in Indonesia, especially since the reform era. The truth and validity of this presumption need to be proven empirically. Indeed, in this province, there are a number of hardline Islamic organizations with the members spread in almost all corners of West Java. The Wahid Foundation survey from 2010 to 2017 always put this province with the highest incidence of religious-based violence. Therefore, the study on the views of moderate Muslim leaders on freedom of expression, hate speech on social media, and the importance of multicultural education are deemed to be very necessary. The qualitative research data on 73 moderate Muslim figures in West Java was collected by direct interviews, via email, social media, telephone calls, and from their opinions in various media. The results showed that moderate Muslim leaders in West Java uphold and respect freedom of expression as one of the basic human rights, but they refuse if this right is misused to spread hate speech. They also agree with the importance of rules and law enforcement to overcome the problem of spreading hate speech, but according to them, the legal aspect is not the only approach. They view multicultural education as a long-term strategy to build a mature democratic society with high ethical standards.

Abstract:
At the 1952 Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) Congress in Palembang, 1952, NU officially broke away from Masyumi and declared itself a political party. From then on, NU emerged as a growing force in both local and national political scenes. In the 1955 elections in Cirebon, the NU party emerged as the winner and the only branch in West Java that received the most votes. The political strategy of the NU Party in Cirebonin the run-up to the 1955 general election was based on the instructions of the Nahdlatul Ulama Executive Board (PBNU) to immediately organize party activities; among others by recruiting non-party members and preparing funding. The emergence of local kiai (religious leaders) who had extensive networks in the villages and Islamic boarding schools also contributed to the NU party’s victory. After the 1955 elections, the Cirebon NU Party highlighted unilateral actions by the PKI. During the September 30, 1965 Movement (Gestapu), mass killings broke out in Central Java and East Java but similar violence did not occur in Cirebon, though there was small outbreaks of violence. In response to the political situation in Indonesia and considering the situation at the local level, PBNU held its 24th Congress in Bandung 1967. By employing the historical method, this study discusses the political strategy of the NU party in Cirebon Regency before and after the 1955 election.

Abstract:
Several things affect the achievement of targets, such as internal and external factors of the zakat management organization. The level of compliance with paying zakat is one of the external factors that can affect the receipt of zakat. So, this research will examine indicators that affect the level of compliance to pay zakat in Indonesia, using religiosity, knowledge, and characteristics of muzakki. The approach in this research is a quantitative approach with probit regression. This research collects 200 respondents as samples from Muslim-majority areas, such as East Java, Yogyakarta, Central Java, and South Sulawesi. It is hoped that this research will find indicators that can influence the level of muzakki compliance in paying zakat. The probit regression results, of all the variables used, there are two significant variables, namely religiosity and knowledge. Meanwhile, demographic variables such as age, income, education, marital status, and gender are insignificant because some people who pay zakat are not based on whether they have reached nishab. They always set aside 2.5% of their income for zakat after payday. The statement reinforces other evidence that people who pay zakat in Indonesia are more driven by factors of faith and trust. Theoretically, this study offers a new research model to explain muzakki compliance in paying zakat. Empirically, this research contributes to zakat managers' focus programs on increasing religiosity and knowledge of muzakki.
