Abstract:
This essay explores rhetorically significant uses of repetition in the Mari letter ARM 26.5. After briefly introducing the intent of ARM 26.5 and overviewing selected uses of repetition in this missive, it treats the verbal form ŠU-UḪ-ḪU and considers its meaning as well as its significance as an instance of paronomasia. It also briefly reflects on the larger issue of persuasion and its relationship to authority during the period documented by the archives from Mari.

The paper analyzes the sources, first introduced into the scientific circulation, extracted from the State Archive of the Russian Federation and five regional archives: the National Archive of the Republic of Tatarstan, the State Archive of the Mari El Republic, the State Historical Archive of the Chuvash Republic, the State Archive of Modern History of the Chuvash Republic, the State Press Archive of the Chuvash Republic as well as from the current archives of general education organizations. The article presents a review of materials extracted from the Chuvash National, Poretsky historical and local history, school museums, the Museum of Public Education of the Chuvash Republic. Published sources are characterized in detail: normative legal acts, government and party resolutions, departmental materials, collections of documents, works of state and public figures, statistics, memoirs, reference materials, periodicals. According to the authors, it is essential to examine existing sources in a complex, comparing and contrasting them, with a view to identify the extent of their reliability. Multiplicity and diversity in the form and content of the presented historical sources create conditions for concretization, analysis, comparison, systematization and synthesis of all the collected information for deeper studying various aspects of evolvement and development of the Soviet school in Chuvashia in 1917–1941.

Abstract:
AbstractThe archives from the time of Zimri-Lim (1678-1664 BC) found in the palace at Mari allow a reconstruction of the accounting practises associated with institutional agriculture. Both the local relations of production and the political goals of the state are assessed in determining land use. The central government restricted itself to the distribution of a variety of resources to its rural estates and to the organisation of supplementary labourers. The "farmer" (ikkarum) managed the basic work unit, plough teams, in order to meet production goals, but his simultaneous contracts with directors of different estates both allowed for his investment (and private gain) and stimulated efficient employment of the palace's resources. This practice provided flexibility for the central government's management of its agricultural estates.

Comparative research aims to ful l reciprocal functions, allowing knowledge of one culture to enrich that of another. For this issue of Revista Claroscuro, greeting the 85th birthday of Mari's resurrection, I open on the circumstances and premises that launched such an assessment before focusing on Mari among other major archeological discoveries between the two Great Wars. Since then, exploitations of Mari's rich archives to illustrate Biblical documents generated as much as a millennium later has experienced peaks and occultations, harmonizing with scholarly permutations in the academic study of the Bible. I touch on these occasions, but also reflect on what we may be missing in an era of singular absorption with a later First Millennium setting for the integration of Hebraic lore.

Abstract:
Subscription to periodicals indirectly shows the ethnolinguistic identity of the population, as in order to meet ethno-cultural needs individuals give preference to that Mass media which is closer to them by the language and world-view. Along with the regional and republican newspapers and magazines published in Bashkortostan, the Finno-Ugric peoples actively take in periodicals from the neighboring Republics, which makes it possible to meet ethnic, cultural and national language needs more widely. The article is based on the materials from the archive of the Ufa Federal Postal Service of the Republic of Bashkortostan,a branch of “Post of Russia”, as well as data from the Press Agency of the Republic of Bashkortostan. It makes an attempt to explore the national cultural needs of the Finno-Ugric peoples in the field of printed Press. The work is based on statistical data, including the current archives of Press and Media Agency of the Republic of Bashkortostan, Federal postal service of the Republic of Bashkortostan, as well as the results of population censuses. The principle of historicism, statistical and systematic approaches make the theoretical basis of the research. In Bashkortostan newspapers for the Mari population are published in the Mari language in two districts – Mishkinskiy and Kaltasinskiy, with 71,5 and 45,9 % of the Mari population according to 2010 census. In Tatyshlinskiy district with 21,5 % of Udmurt population, there is one regional newspaper in the Udmurt language. Taking into account the needs of the Mari population of the Republic, since 1991 the Republican newspaper “Cholman” (“Kama”) has been published in the Mari language. Since 1999 there has been another newspaper with Republican circulation in the Udmurt language – “Oshmes”. Newspapers and magazines in the Mordovian language are not published in Bashkortostan. The Mordovian population subscribes periodicals from the Republic of Mordovia. The promotion of subscriptions in the Finno-Ugric languages in the Republic would contribute to the further preservation and development of native languages and strengthening the ethnic identity of the Finno-Ugric population in Bashkortostan.

Abstract:
To speak about Nineveh from the perspective of the archives of Mari may seem rash: the Middle Euphrates is a long way from the banks of the Tigris. Yet the importance of Nineveh and its shrine was such that several texts found at Mari mention it as what must then have been a religious metropolis.During the period when Mari was under the dominion of Samsî-Addu, his son, Yasmah-Addu, sat on its throne. He was primarily responsible for affairs in the west, but personally participated in the military campaign marked by the fall of Nineveh and received numerous letters informing him of military events related to this event. Even after the conquest of Mari, when Yasmah-Addu had left the area, news of Nineveh and its surroundings went on arriving at the capital of the Middle Euphrates and continued to do so more sporadically in the era of Zimrî-Lîm.I would like first to present the data relevant to the geography and toponymy of the kingdom of Nurrugûm, to which Nineveh belonged at that time, and then to reconstruct the campaign that led to the fall of Nineveh and the complete annexation of the kingdom. I will end with some remarks on the famous commemorative inscription placed by Samsî-Addu in the temple Emenue at Nineveh.

Abstract:
This volume is the edition and the commentary of about 300 documents discovered amongst the archives of mart kings (Syria, XVIIIe s. B. C. ). Written in Akkadian, an old-babylonian dialect, they give the opportunity of scrutinizing, besides kings wealth, many unsuspected aspects of diplomatic exchanges between major contemporaneous royal courts. They give access to an archaeological documentation which was lost due to the heavy looting of great middle-eastern centers in antiquity. Last of all, knowledge of masterpieces circulation allows a better understanding of artistic trends genesis in middle- east, at the begining of the iind millennium b. C. This research is not only a historical one. It includes extensive lexical studies, aiming to establish luxury vessels glossary : denominations of artefacts, constitutive parts of the objects, descriptions of ornaments, etc. It pretends to constitute a significant contribution to the dictionnaire de babylonien de Paris elaborated after publishing of mari documentation by the Parisian scholarly team who devotes his efforts to them

Abstract:

Abstract:
Mari, called now Tell Hariri, is located in the extreme south-east of Syria on the middle Euphrates, twelve kilometers north of Abu Kemal. Among the most important discoveries in this site arethe royal archives which contain a corpus of 20,000 tablets written in cuneiform. Letters are the most important part of the archives. What characterizes the letters and makes them very interesting is that one can discover, between the lines, information about the people who wrote these letters and pinpoint their personality or state of mind. The epistolary documents of this study are the result ofan abundant correspondence, spread over two main periods:in the time of Samsi-Addu (1792-1782 BC) and of his son Yasmah-Addu (1782-1775 BC), when the city of Mari was integrated into the kingdom of Upper Mesopotamia, and that of Zimri-Lîm, the last king of Mari in the amorous period (1775-1761 BC). The thesis deals with the correspondence exchanged between the king and the persons who are close to him. The letters can be classified into three groups:family, administrative staff and foreign kings;these people have paternal relations or simple political relations at the level of State. The work proposes a reflection on a part of the society and of the family, administrative, political and economic system of Mari, throughthe study of the relations between the king and his relatives and the place that these relatives can have in this system. For a general idea of the corpus chosenfor our study, see a table in an appendix to the second volume, which gives a description of the relationships between the various interlocutors and the nature of their relationship, as well as characteristics and tone of each letter

Abstract:
The present work was developed during the Masters Course in the Vocational Graduation Program in Cultural Heritage at the Federal University of Santa. This research aimed at investigating the reality of the Heritage Education in the Elementary School system in Santa Maria/RS to, after knowing this reality, propose subsides of guidelines focusing educator so that they can bring children and teenagers closer to the local heritage, especially the documental heritage in custody of the Municipal Historical Archive. The dialogue between Archive and School is critical to make students understand the importance to preserve their local heritage which is their own heritage. Starting from this and, considering the fact that the Municipal Historical Archive is visited by just a few students from elementary school, we tried to investigate the causes of this detachment. Our study is a descriptive field research with a quantitative and qualitative approach. To investigate the Heritage Education scenario in the city of Santa Maria we used a questionnaire that was sent to fifty-eight private, State and Municipal schools of the administrative urban center region and its neighboring regions but only twenty-one schools returned with some feedback. With the analysis of the collected data we can infer that the Heritage Education is present at school but is not worked from the Municipal Historical Archive documental heap because the educators do not know the services and research possibilities offered by the information unit. In this way, as educators are actions multipliers at school, the Heritage Education Program from the Santa Maria Municipal Historical Archive began with actions directe to the educators, such as the Meeting and the Orientation Guide for Educators.

The Tuscan archipelago particularly Elba present on a 224km2 area, a richness, a variety reflecting all the events that happened during the formation of the alps-apennins orogen. After a bibliographical synthesis, the repartition of the formations allows a paleogeographic distribution of Tuscan and ligurian thrustings. These results compared to observations recognized at sea are : the persistence of post-messinian accidents, the effect of Miocene compression then followed by distention, sliding and warding of Tuscan and ligurian thrustings, the observation of several level of terraces on the island of Elba itself, at sea confirming that for each climatical change, several oscillations of sea level occur. The effects being able to change of erosion: climat, nature of grounds, vegetation are necessary to the knowledge of the natural variations in the instable domain. From the Neolithic, the man change the natural environment. To recall the history of all the changes to contribute to the knowledge of domains and the interactions between different components of the system, to establish the progressive impact of man, to determine the consequences of projects before their result, to allow the coexistence of those 2 environments to arrange the developing programs and the preservation of natural environment

Personal archives, because of the abundance of information they contain, because of their diversity, complexity and intimate character give rise to interdisciplinary considerations, from a historical, social, archival, linguistic, and literary perspective. This research deals with letters of love written in the 1920s and 1930s, belonging to the personal archive of an ordinary person, and aims to contribute to a better understanding of private archives. Starting from an introduction to the subject, an interdisciplinary approach is taken to the personal archives and the units that compose them in the first two chapters. The specific objectives are to present a study of letters, in this case the Franciscan epistolary, in the third chapter, exploring after the themes social etiquette and daily life in the two final chapters. The methodology used consisted of a qualitative and exploratory approach of the bibliographical references, with reproduction of images of units of the Lysia archive, a personal archive, as well as excerpts of the letters searched that, throughout the text, are placed in perspective of bibliographical references used, searching for pertinences and connections. Images of the letters whose excerpts were transcribed in the tables are reproduced integrally in the annex of this research, in the second volume, in the same order as they appear in the text.

Abstract:
What is the effect of weathering in a confined space? What if this space is the bathroom of the famous Mexican painter Frida Kahlo? Writer Mario Bellatin and photographer Graciela Iturbide venture into this once intimate room and through a series of artistic interventions breathe new life into it. The logic of the archive is their guiding principle: in order to preserve what has been locked away and stored, it must be exposed and put to new uses.

Abstract:
Documentary investigations conducted at the Florence State Archives contributed to shed light on eighteenth-century efforts to develop the collection of the Uomini Illustri portraits, exhibited along the walls of the Uffizi Gallery. While the original body of works had been commissioned by granduke Cosimo I to Cristofano di Papi dell’Altissimo, who had copied the series held by Paolo Giovio in his villa in Como, the Florentine collection was later enriched by a massive supply of portraits between 1719 and 1733. The desire to complete the Uffizi ‘gioviana’ series was probably due to Anna Maria Luisa de’ Medici and the artist who followed in Cristofano dell’Altissimo’s footsteps should be identified in Carlo Ventura Sacconi (1676-1762), who painted 159 portraits of illustrious men. Between 1721 and 1727 the painter also completed the so-called ‘serie Aulica’, which was displayed – just like the ‘gioviana’ series – in the corridors of the Florentine Gallery.

Full text
Abstract:
Narrative imagination creates a space of learning where contemporary and historic knowledge of designed place merge. This paperdiscusses how an instructor’s curation and narration of archival material can provoke design-students to imagine narratives and actively visualize processes humans use to construct, inhabit and adjust comfort in place. The concept of narrative imagination presented in this paper is informed by traditional narrative as Marie-Laure Ryan defines it her 2005 article, Narrative and the Split Condition of Digital Textuality: (The traditionalist school) “conceives narrative as an invariant core of meaning, a core that distinguishes narrative from other types of discourse, and gives it a trans-cultural, trans-historical, and trans-medial identity.”1 The work of Gerard Genette, Levi-Strauss, Roland Barthes, Jacques Derrida, Monica Fludernik, John Fiske, James Phelan, Henry Jenkins and others is also influential.2

Full text
Abstract:
Discrimination of speech and song through auditory signal is an exciting topic of research. Preceding efforts were mainly discrimination of speech and non-speech but moderately fewer efforts were carried out to discriminate speech and song. Discrimination of speech and song is one of the noteworthy fragments of automatic sorting of audio signal because this is considered to be the fundamental step of hierarchical approach towards genre identification, audio archive generation. The previous efforts which were carried out to discriminate speech and song, have involved frequency domain and perceptual domain aural features. This work aims to propose an acoustic feature which is small dimensional as well as easy to compute. It is observed that energy level of speech signal and song signal differs largely due to absence of instrumental part as a background in case of speech signal. Short Time Energy (STE) is the best acoustic feature which can echo this scenario. For precise study of energy variation co-occurrence matrix of STE is generated and statistical features are extracted from it. For classification resolution, some well-known supervised classifiers have been engaged in this effort. Performance of proposed feature set has been compared with other efforts to mark the supremacy of the feature set.

Abstract:
Coastal Artillery Regiment (RAC) is a unit of the Portuguese Army with the mission of guaranteeing the coastal defense of the ports of Lisbon and Setúbal. The set consists of fixed, secret, camouflaged and fortified batteries, installed along the entrance to the Sado and Tejo rivers. The structures are equipped with heavy artillery pieces. RAC was deactivated in 1998 and its archive was recently declassified. In times of technological advances, there is an inevitable change in the paradigm of military architecture. Technically obsolete structures have fallen into extinction. These territorial voids must be discussed in the inevitable territory reorganization. Should they display archeology or just be absorbed by surroundings? How to deal with post-military heritage? And lastly, how can we deal and operate in such a territorial resilience example, in a way to take profit from this particular long extension of waterfront regarding Climate Emergency. Present paper is a result within two main research projects: “SOSClimateWaterfront” (Marie Skłodowska-Curie Research and Innovation Staff Exchange (RISE) program) and “Bunker architecture from mid 20th century and the post military Portuguese classified heritage” project. In this sense proposes a active research that means an accurate research about Portuguese bunkers and around military areas together with the discussion around the possible use of these areas as resilience areas to climate improvement within waterfronts around Lisbon.

Full text
Abstract:

The Quilombo as a Regime of Conviviality Sentipensando Memory Politics with Beatriz Nascimento. Maria Sibylla Merian International Centre for Advanced Studies in the Humanities and Social Sciences Conviviality-Inequality in Latin America, December 2021. http://dx.doi.org/10.46877/tosold.2021.41.

Abstract:
Aiming at (re)thinking memory politics in contexts of ongoing total violence against non-white bodies, I propose, in this working paper, to engage with Maria Beatriz Nascimento’s multifaceted notion of quilombo. Once understood as alternative regimes of conviviality that entail existential (beyond material) aspects, Nascimento’s notion of quilombo enables critical access to the onto-epistemological basis on which memory politics generally takes place. After primary considerations about violence and the archives, I highlight three main aspects of Nascimento’s notion of quilombo to (re) think memory politics: (1) the introduction of a temporality that displaces underlying analytical assumptions of a linear, progressive and sequential time; (2) the idea of paz quilombola, which allows analytical space for “opacity” in the generation of knowledge; (3) the link between personal and collective intergenerational memory that, for Nascimento, requires the fostering of spaces of body encounters.

Martin, Kathi, Nick Jushchyshyn, and Claire King. Christian Lacroix Evening gown c.1990. Drexel Digital Museum, 2017. http://dx.doi.org/10.17918/wq7d-mc48.

Full text
Abstract:
The URL links to a website page in the Drexel Digital Museum (DDM) fashion image archive containing a 3D interactive panorama of an evening gown by French fashion designer Christian Lacroix with related text. This evening gown by Christian Lacroix is from his Fall 1990 collection. It is constructed from silk plain weave, printed with an abstract motif in the bright, deep colors of the local costumes of Lacroix's native Arles, France; and embellished with diamanté and insets of handkerchief edged silk chiffon. Ruffles of pleated silk organza in a neutral bird feather print and also finished with a handkerchief edge, accentuate the asymmetrical draping of the gown. Ruching, controlled by internal drawstrings and ties, creates volume and a slight pouf, a nod to 'le pouf' silhouette Lacroix popularized in his collection for Patou in 1986. Decorative boning on the front of the bodice reflects Lacroix's early education as a costume historian and his sartorial reinterpretation of historic corsets. It is from the private collection of Mari Shaw. The panorama is an HTML5 formatted version of an ultra-high resolution ObjectVR created from stitched tiles captured with GigaPan technology. It is representative the ongoing research of the DDM, an international, interdisciplinary group of researchers focused on production, conservation and dissemination of new media for exhibition of historic fashion.
