Abstract:
The populations of Buccinanops monilifer (Gastropoda: Nassariidae) from two different sites, Mar del Plata (Buenos Aires province) and a close non-polluted locality (Mar Chiquita), are compared in their imposex indices and reproductive parameters. In Mar del Plata, a beach nourishment (sand filling) remobilized sediment from the harbour area during 1999; our results show high imposex percentage and an increase in relative penis size index during and after this beach filling event, in contrast with the Mar Chiquita population that showed nil values during this study. Comparisons of reproductive parameters between both populations showed significantly higher frequency of spawning females and number of egg capsules per female in Mar Chiquita, while female size and number of eggs per capsule did not differ. Females from Mar del Plata that did not succeed in spawning showed higher imposex values than spawning ones. Sex-ratio was not significantly different from 1:1 in any of the sites (although male-biased in Mar del Plata and the opposite in Mar Chiquita). We found no malformations or abnormalities during intracapsular development in the imposexed population. Alternatively, we found evidence that suggests that B. monilifer intracapsular development includes the occurrence of intracapsular embryonic cannibalism of other smaller embryos, which was not previously known in this genus, and that complements adelphophagy (feeding on nurse eggs feeding).

Abstract:
Se analizaron los ensambles de aves mediante conteos en sitios con similar estructura del hábitat en tres ciudades costeras del sudeste de la provincia de Buenos Aires con diferente grado de desarrollo urbano, basado en el número de habitantes: Mar del Plata (500000 habitantes), Necochea (80000 habitantes) y Miramar (20000 habitantes). Los muestreos fueron realizados en transectas fijas de 100×50 m sobre calles arboladas con casas unidas. De las variables medidas para cada transecta en las tres ciudades, el nivel de tránsito (acompañado por el número de personas) y la distancia mínima a áreas rurales fueron mayores en Mar del Plata, mientras que la cobertura de césped fue mayor en Miramar. La riqueza total y la abundancia total de aves no variaron entre ciudades, mientras que la riqueza y abundancia de aves no asociadas a la presencia del hombre fueron mayores en Miramar. El índice de similitud entre ciudades fue mayor entre Miramar y Necochea, intermedio entre Necochea y Mar del Plata y menor entre Miramar y Mar del Plata. De las especies registradas en más del 10% de los muestreos, Columba livia y Zonotrichia capensis tuvieron abundancias similares entre las ciudades, Passer domesticus y Zenaida auriculata fueron más abundantes en Mar del Plata y Necochea, y Furnarius rufus y Mimus saturninus fueron más abundantes en Miramar. Los resultados obtenidos indican que los ensambles analizados en las tres ciudades relevadas fueron influenciados por factores que actúan a escala local y regional.

En los últimos años, las poblaciones de langostino crecieron inusitadamente promoviendo que una buena parte de la flota fresquera y merlucera que tradicionalmente operaba en Mar del Plata se reorientara hacia esta especie de localización patagónica. El presente trabajo, apunta a demostrar que mientras las exportaciones pesqueras nacionales marcan récords históricos, la conflictividad social en la formación social y espacial pesquera de Mar del Plata se ha revitalizado motivada por la falta de pescado fresco descargado en tierra. En este sentido, analizamos: la evolución de las descargas de merluza y langostino en el país; el comportamiento de las distintas flotas y las características y recurrencia de la conflictividad social en Mar del Plata. A tales fines, trabajamos con bibliografía específica, estadísticas oficiales, prensa periódica, publicaciones especializadas del sector pesquero y entrevistas a informantes calificados.

Abstract:
Beach filling activities were conducted along the Mar del Plata coastline, Argentina, with sediments dredged from the harbour mouth between November 1998 and April 1999. We determined the percentage of imposex of Olivancillaria deshayesiana before, during and immediately after beach filling. The current situation (2005–2007) of imposex incidence was compared between populations from Mar del Plata and Mar Chiquita, a less impacted area. In addition, we evaluated differences in shell shape and body weight between females with and without imposex. The percentage of imposex was significantly higher during (85.3%) and after (73.9%) beach filling than before it (31.0%). No differences in body weight were found in the female population but shell length was significantly lower in females with imposex. As expected, the Mar Chiquita population showed no signs of imposex. This is the first report of imposex in beaches nourished with sand dredged from the port. Our results highlight the importance of analysing more carefully the sediment before beach filling. On the basis of the high level of imposex recorded near the port of Mar del Plata, O. deshayesiana can be used as a biological indicator of marine contamination with butyltin compounds.

La Renovación Carismática Católica es uno de los movimientos de la nueva sensibilidad católica pos-conciliar. Se caracteriza por el protagonismo que desempeñan los laicos en su estructura y su apertura al ecumenismo. Nos proponemos responder un problema central que es conocer cuáles son las prácticas distintivas de la Renovación Carismática Católica (en adelante RCC). A través del conocimiento de estas prácticas se intentará comprender de qué forma se producen las transformaciones de la subjetividad en los individuos que participan en la RCC. En este trabajo presentaremos las instituciones y prácticas dentro de la RCC. Analizaremos desde lo institucional la estructura organizativa de la RCC, remarcando la importancia que le otorgamos al grupo de oración. Luego nos centraremos sobre ritos carismáticos, dividido en grupos de oración, seminario de vida y misas carismáticas. El objetivo es realizar un análisis de las prácticas religiosas, pero incorporando la dimensión de los institucional. Sostengo que no es posible comprender completamente las propiedades de las prácticas sin vincularlas con la institución que las alberga, y sobre esto intentar comprender el modo en que viven las creencias y disposiciones, analizando de manera conjunta las prácticas y su base institucional.

A raíz de la "plaga" de planes estratégicos que comenzó a darse a partir de los noventa en Argentina y América del Sur, nos preguntamos por la razón y el sentido de un Plan Estratégico, es decir, para qué o para quién se hace un Plan Estratégico. Y, por ende, en qué teoría de desarrollo se inscribe la planificación estratégica para gestionar las ciudades. Por ello, nuestro objeto de estudio es el proceso de elaboración del Plan Estratégico de Mar del Plata (Argentina). Objeto que está justificado en tanto que constituye un referente empírico adecuado para presentar un conjunto de reflexiones críticas a las propuestas de transformación de la gestión pública local.
Motivated by the "plague" of strategic plans that began in the 90s in Argentina and South America, we address the reason and meaning of an Strategic Plan, that is, what and whom an Strategic Plan is made for. And, as well, to which development theory strategic plans for cities subscribes to. Therefore, our object of study is the elaboration of the city of Mar del Plata´s Strategic Plan process, in Argentina. Object which is justified as long as it constitutes an adecuate empirical reference to present a group of critical insights to the proposals of transformation of the local public management.

El proyecto de nación argentina, construido a partir del año 1810, se sostenía a través de la ocupación, control y construcción de un extenso territorio que se le ganaba al indio progresivamente. Una serie de estrategias políticas y la fundación de ciudades dieron forma a estas primeras intervenciones. En el sudeste de Buenos Aires, hacia la mitad del siglo XIX -cuando no se había madurado aún la planificación de un lugar con caracteres de balneario--, un grupo de empresarios conformaron una sociedad y proyectaron actividades vinculadas a la explotación rural e industrial en el lugar que hoy ocupa Mar del Plata. Las diferentes actividades emprendidas no resultaron y, en una de las últimas operaciones, entra en escena Patricio Peralta Ramos, quien imagina la primera iniciativa para la fundación de un centro urbano, que se transformaría posteriormente en una villa balnearia apta para la atracción de las prácticas turísticas.   The Argentina Nation's project, built since 1810, was sustained through the occupation, control and construction of an extensive territory that progressively was won to the natives. A number of political strategies and cities' foundations, gave shape to these first interventions. Towards the mid XIX century, in the southeast of Buenos Aires, the idea of planning beach resort places had not yet been matured. A businessman association created a company and started rural and industrial activities in the same place where Mar del Plata is today. They installed a salting house and once they verified that it wasn't revenue-yielding, it was sold. Patricio Peralta Ramos appeared in scene during this last trading operations, and was the first one to imagine the foundation of an urban center that would become a beach resort village capable of attracting tourism.

O enfrentamento da grande escala sobre a paisagem natural é um tema que interessa à arquitetura moderna, estabelecendo um desafio que abrange a resolução do projeto em si, bem como a capacidade de produção de território. Horacio Baliero (1927-2004), em sua obra para o Cemitério Parque de Mar del Plata, abarca essas questões de forma contundente, demonstrando os anseios do movimento moderno em estabelecer relações entre o edifício e o local de inserção, assim como a preocupação com a expansão territorial. Considerado um expoente da arquitetura moderna argentina pelos seus pares, Baliero dedicou-se simultaneamente à docência e à prática, desenvolvendo mais de 80 projetos de diversas escalas e programas. A presente dissertação apresenta uma análise aprofundada do projeto para o Cemitério Parque de Mar del Plata, com o objetivo de compreender suas possíveis influências, a composição resultante de cada elemento proposto e de que forma o projeto arquitetônico estabelece relações com a paisagem. Como contextualização para o caso central, este estudo exibe ainda um panorama da trajetória de Horacio Baliero, destacando suas obras de maior repercussão e aspectos importantes de sua carreira acadêmica e profissional.
A large-scale project on the natural landscape is a subject that concerns modern architecture, setting a challenge that includes both the resolution of the project itself and the capacity of territory production. Horacio Baliero (1927-2004), in his work for the Mar del Plata Park Cemetery, prominently covers these issues, demonstrating the willingness of the modern movement to establish relationships between the building and its insertion site, as well as its concern with the construction of territory. Considered an exponent of modern architecture in Argentina by his peers, Baliero devoted himself both to teaching and practice, developing more than 80 projects of different scales and programs. The present study presents a comprehensive analysis of the Mar del Plata Park Cemetery in order to understand its possible influences, the resulting composition of each proposed element, and how the architectural project establishes relationships with the landscape. To set background for the central case, this analysis also shows an overview of Baliero’s career, highlighting his most influential works and important aspects of his academic path and professional life.

Aborda el dimensionamiento de la red de tuberías interna y de la tubería montante de gas natural para el edificio multifamiliar Mar de Plata ubicado en av. Universitaria 349-361 del distrito de San Miguel en la ciudad de Lima. Para ello se han utilizado los fundamentos de la mecánica de fluidos y aplicado las normas técnicas peruanas (NTP) relacionados con el gas natural. El edificio consta de 20 pisos y 77 departamentos a los que hay que dotarlos de gas natural a través de una tubería montante de cobre y ramales de distribución con tuberías con tuberías multicapa polietileno-aluminio-polietileno (PEALPE). Para el diseño se ha determinado la demanda de gas natural del edificio, la ubicación de los centros de medición y artefactos de cada departamento. Con estos parámetros se ha definido el diámetro óptimo a utilizar para la red interna de gas natural. La distribución del gas natural al edificio se realiza por medio de dos etapas: la primera etapa comprende la línea montante, la cual inicia en el regulador de primera etapa y culmina en los centros de mediciones de cada departamento; la segunda etapa, que es la línea individual interna, comprende desde el centro medición hasta los equipos a abastecer de gas natural en los departamentos.

Abstract:
The thesis analyses how episodes of crisis have shaped local institutional transformations and urban policy innovations in Valencia and Mar del Plata over the last three decades. Spainʼs ongoing public debt issues and Argentinaʼs long history of financial instability place current debates concerning local government responses to economic crises into context. The thesis engages with urban research that cuts across cities from the global North and South in order to exploit the potential of comparative urbanism to stretch conventional approaches, methods and concepts from urban theory. Drawing inspiration from literature on institutionalism, it brings into analytical scrutiny and conversation a number of formal and informal features of the local institutional environment of each city to offer a nuanced understanding of how local governments deal with economic, social and political urban issues in times of crisis. Narratives of crisis advanced by local actors provide an alternative empirical source for the analysis of the urban dimension of major episodes of crisis and reveal their multiple temporalities. The detailed consideration of different urban actors exposes the complexity of the institutional environment in which organisational transformations and urban policymaking processes take place as well as the wide variety of interests at play, and how these were differently constituted in the two case study cities. The examination of the relationship between crises and local institutional transformations reveals that crises are not simply economic in origin but are both politically constituted and politically mediated. Finally, the thesis considers in detail how specifically urban interventions and strategies were articulated by the municipal governments in response to crises. The thesis ends with an invitation to the reader to grapple with the rich experience of these and other ordinary cities dealing with multiple kinds of crises, drawing out lessons for how these might be tackled creatively and even positively in the future.

Abstract:
In South America and especially in Argentina, the behaviour of mercury (Hg) and arsenic (As) mainly in sediments remains poorly understood. The Mar Chiquita system and more particularly the Laguna del Plata with its associated Suquía River basin is used here as a case study to identify the dynamic of these two trace elements. Their distribution in space and time are studied in relation with the anthropic presence and the hydrological conditions that importantly changed in the last century.The methodology consisted first to study the spatial distribution of mercury and arsenic thanks to the analysis of water and sediments taken all along the Suquía River and Laguna del Plata. Secondly, the sampling and study of a sediment core taken in Laguna del Plata allowed to evaluate variations of Hg and As with time.The implementation of selective extractions allowed to better identify Hg and As bearing phases. The global interpretation of the results and the support of satellites images revealed the important role played by climate changes and hydrological variations in the control of mercury and arsenic behaviour within the Mar Chiquita system. The combination of these different approaches revealed that the dynamic of mercury and arsenic shows contrast behaviour. Hg concentrations are low when the climate conditions are dry and lake-level is low. They are mainly associated to sulphurs carried by the Suquía River. The augmentation in regional precipitations produced higher runoff, rise in the lake-level and an increment in Hg accumulations. In this period Hg is mainly associated to the organic matter. As instead is contributed to the lake in solution and by the influence of winds from the loessic Chaco Pampean Plain in drier periods. As is associated to reactive Fe and Mn oxyhydroxides throughout the core. High concentrations in the bottom of the core are also associated to sulphides while in the middle and upper part As concentrations are as well associated with carbonates.

Al costat de la causa republicana va estar majorment la societat argentina, però el govern es va amagar darrera una política de abstenció amb respecte a la mateixa, primer, i de reconeixement del nou govern espanyol després, encobrint una conducta conservadora que recolzava la causa nacional. El conflicte espanyol va ser un dels fets que majoritàriament va impactar en la societat i política argentina fragmentant partits, produint escissions en els Centres regionals i fent que el govern adoptés mesures opressores a l’oposició, a més de restringir les polítiques migratòries. El refugiat republicà va passar a convertir-se en un refugiat indesitjable. Primer fou la guerra civil, després l’exili provocant que la societat hispano-argentina intensifiqués tot un sistema d’ajudes que havien estat agilitzant des del principi mateix de l’enfrontament, a traves de centenars d’organitzacions i comitès d’auxili pro-republicans. La premsa bonaerense y de Mar del Plata, independent o de partit, a través del seu rol com actriu política i creadora d’opinió pública no fou indiferent a l’esdeveniment espanyol.
A favor de la causa republicana estuvo mayoritariamente la sociedad argentina, sin embargo el gobierno se salvaguardó detrás de una política de prescindencia con respecto a la misma, primero, y de reconocimiento del nuevo gobierno español después, encubriendo una conducta conservadora que apoyaba la causa nacional. El conflicto español fue uno de los sucesos que mayormente impactó en la sociedad y política argentina fragmentando partidos, produciendo escisiones en los Centros regionales y haciendo que el gobierno adoptara medias opresoras a la oposición, además de restringir las políticas migratorias. El refugiado republicano pasó a convertirse en un refugiado indeseable. Primero fue la guerra civil, después fue el exilio provocando que la sociedad hispano-argentina intensificara todo un sistema de ayudas que habían estado agilizando desde el inicio mismo de la contienda, a través de centenares de organizaciones y comités de auxilio pro-republicanos. La prensa bonaerense y de Mar del Plata, independiente o de partido, a través de su rol como actriz política y creadora de opinión pública no fue indiferente al evento español.
Favourable to the republican cause was the Argentinean society, however the government initially chose an abstention’s position and than recognized the new Spanish government, hiding a conservative policy supporting the national cause. The Spanish conflict was one of the events that most had an influence on the Argentinean society and politics dividing parties and Regional Centres. The government passed measures against any possible political extremism and limited the migration policies, as far as possible. Therefore the republican refugees became undesirable exiles. First the Civil War and then the exile pressed the Spanish-Argentinean society to create, and intensify, a system of assistance working through hundreds of pro-republican organizations and committees. The press of Buenos Aires and Mar del Plata, independent or not, through its role as political actor and creator of public opinion was not indifferent to the Spanish event.

Abstract:
Cette thèse s'insère dans le programme du Centre F. Viète "Histoire comparée des paysages culturels portuaires" et porte sur la compréhension de l’évolution scientifique et technologique des ports de Brest (France), Mar del Plata et Rosario en Argentine à l’époque contemporaine. L’hypothèse de recherche est de considérer un port comme un macro-système technologique complexe dont l’évolution spatiotemporelle en tant qu'artefact s’inscrit dans une histoire des sciences et des techniques. Ces artefacts sont considérés comme indicateurs signifiants de cette évolution. L'objectif de cette thèse est de bâtir une histoire comparée des ports, de proposer et de valider de nouvelles méthodes de travail en humanités numériques. Pour satisfaire à ces objectifs, nous avons produit une histoire comparée des ports considérés. Puis, nous avons développé un modèle d'évolution de ces ports, appelé HST-PORT, à partir du métamodèle SHS, ANY-ARTEFACT. A partir du modèle HST-PORT, nous avons conçu une ontologie de référence, appelée PHO (Port History Ontology). Cette dernière est fondée sur l’ontologie CIDOC-CRM et en reprend donc le modèle évènementiel. Cette ontologie a été évaluée avec succès en reproduisant l’histoire comparée des ports considérés faites par des historiens. A terme, il s'agit de concevoir de nouveaux systèmes d'information fondés sur ces ontologies et le web sémantique pour indexer, publier et d'interroger des sources historiques afin de produire une histoire comparée
This thesis is part of the F. Viète Centre's "Comparative History of Port Cultural Landscapes" programme and focuses on understanding the scientific and technological evolution of the ports of Brest (France), Mar del Plata and Rosario in Argentina in contemporary times. The research hypothesis is to consider a port as a complex technological macro-system whose spatial and temporal evolution as an artifact is part of the history of science and technology. These artifacts are considered as significant indicators of this evolution.The objective of this thesis is to build a comparative history of ports, to propose and validate new research methods in digital humanities. To meet these objectives, we have produced a comparative history of the considered ports.Then, we have developed a model for the evolution of these ports, called HST-PORT, based on the SHS meta-model ANY-ARTEFACT. Based on the HSTPORT model, we have developed a reference ontology, called PHO (Port History Ontology). The latter is based on the CIDOC-CRM ontology and therefore uses the corresponding event model. This ontology has been successfully evaluated by reproducing the comparative history of the considered ports made by historians. In the long term, it will be necessary to design new information systems based on these ontologies and the semantic web to index, publish and query historical sources to produce a comparative history

Abstract:
The scientific documentation looms, together with access to information and management of their tools is fundamental in the training and development of professionals that enable scientific and technological progress. Particularly in the health sciences and medicine precisely this development is one of the most remarkable, considering the medical documentation the most complex of all. The highly computerized technological equipment and diagnostic techniques applied in the development of this discipline makes the accumulation of this information and run forward at high speed, requiring an information technology supports this development. Another reason is that doctors do not have the time to search, access, and read as much information circulating, not to have the resources and skills to track, making the documentary and the protagonists informationists direct access and selection information. This is why the demands and requirements of the Librarian Specialized Health Medicine area must be consistent with the requirements and demands of the discipline. It examines how the documentary preparation have when entering the workforce specialized in medicine and the difficulties faced when it comes to search, select and retrieve this type of information, to provide its users an accurate document, according to the professional requirements requested. Mastering English, managing databases, medical vocabulary, knowledge of anatomy, and highly specific subject of the documentary require preparation and specialized academic training. Whereas to enter the labor market does not have these essential tools for good performance, higher education should be largely to provide an academic level commensurate with the needs of librarians.

Con frecuencia, los imaginarios urbanos aluden a determinadas visiones colectivas compartidas y de carácter costumbrista que aportan a la construcción social de la ciudad. En la ciudad de Mar del Plata en el periodo 1970-1990, los Conjuntos Habitacionales (CH) constituyeron la forma predominante de producción de vivienda masiva. Esta modalidad habitacional, fue sustentada desde una concepción rígida y totalizante del desarrollo urbano, afín a los preceptos básicos de la planificación tradicional. El trabajo analiza el proceso de gestión-producción de Conjuntos Habitacionales del área noroeste de la ciudad de Mar del Plata, en donde agentes ligados a intereses inmobiliarios articularon una producción ficticia de planes particularizados, normativas y operatorias que generaron expectativas de urbanización; repercutiendo en los precios del suelo con la generación de rentas territoriales bajo la forma de grandes proyectos de vivienda y políticas de urbanización. Often, urban imaginary allude to certain shared customs and character that contribute to the social construction of collective visions city . In the city of Mar del Plata in the period 1970-1990 , the housing complexes ( CH ) were the predominant form of mass housing production . This housing form , was supported from a rigid and totalizing conception of urban development, akin to the basic precepts of traditional planning. The paper analyzes the process of production management - Housing Block Northwest area of the city of Mar del Plata , where agents linked to real estate interests articulated a particularized fictional production plans , policy and operative to generate expectations of urbanization ; impacting land prices with territorial generating income in the form of large projects of housing and urbanization policies.

In higher education, learning a foreign language like English subsumes the develop­ment of learners’ linguistic, discourse and communicative competence. In most universities of Argentina, the rationale behind the inclusion of English for Specific Purposes (ESP) courses was to equip undergraduates with the necessary tools both for their courses of studies and for their future careers. In this globalized world, English has become the channel through which students and professionals seek new opportunities, like scholarships and job opportunities abroad, and even communicate science. Given such importance and considering students’ needs at the English Language Course within the School of Agricultural Sciences, Universidad Nacional de Mar del Plata, Argentina, a blended approach to the teaching of ESP which draws from various fields has been designed and implemented. Its prime aim is to bridge an ever-widening gap between theory, needs analysis and classroom practices. This article describes this approach to ESP, explores students’ perceptions about the course, its focus on genre and its possible contribution to the development of their disciplinary or academic skills.

Abstract:
Este trabajo analiza el desarrollo de nuevas exportaciones agroindustriales en la Argentina, a partir de la instalación a mediados de la década de los años noventa, de una empresa transnacional que es líder mundial en la producción de alimentos. La radicación de la planta procesadora de papas de McCain en la zona núcleo de producción papera de la provincia de Buenos Aires, dio lugar a la exportación de volúmenes significativos de papa procesada con destino a los mercados de Brasil y otros países de la región. Ese proceso de desarrollo productivo y exportador que lleva más de dos décadas hizo que las exportaciones argentinas se ubicaran en el TOP 10 de los países que exportan papa procesada. En efecto, las exportaciones de este producto en el año 2019, antes de la pandemia, superaron los 229 millones de dólares, alcanzando la cifra más alta del último quinquenio. McCain fue responsable de más del 70% del total exportado. El estudio muestra que la disponibilidad de materia prima de calidad, en una zona de altos rendimientos para la producción de papa, sumados a la organización y gestión de una red de proveedores con contratos de compra que propició McCain junto con inversiones para asegurar mayor eficiencia y acceso a activos estratégicos dio lugar al desarrollo de una amplia cadena de suministro con el apoyo de distintos actores en el territorio. La llegada de Mc Cain, generó también derrames y spillovers en el sector donde hubo ingreso de nuevos jugadores en la actividad que abrieron plantas industriales. PepsiCo, especializada en productos para snack que también utiliza papas, instaló su planta en Mar del Plata en 2009. Alimentos Modernos (hoy 50% de propiedad del Lamb Weston) también está desembarcando en la zona. A estas dos empresas, se sumó la transnacional Simplot, que se radicó en Mendoza (a 1.100 km de distancia) que compra semillas y producción de papa industria en el sudeste bonaerense. A estas inversiones, se suman también emprendimientos de empresarios locales, de otras provincias argentinas o de empresas brasileñas que ven el potencial que tiene la zona. Estas iniciativas facilitaron el nacimiento y desarrollo de empresas proveedoras de equipamiento, insumos y servicios para la agroindustria, el desarrollo de nuevas variedades y de un mercado se semillas especializado sobre la base del conocimiento científico tecnológico de las instituciones locales, la formación y disponibilidad de recursos humanos y la mejora en las condiciones de contratación. El trabajo también destaca el papel que jugó el gobierno local en la provisión de bienes públicos que terminaron de convencer a Mc Cain para instalarse en Balcarce a partir de lo cual se generaron importantes eslabones de la cadena productiva que son fundamentales para el desarrollo del sector.
