Abstract:
INTRODUCTION: Extensive research has shown the effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of the Green Prescription (GRx) but none has focused on the experiences of Pacific women who have been through the GRx programme. The research aim was to investigate the experience of the GRx programme for Pacific women in Auckland, New Zealand. METHODS: Qualitative data from in-depth interviews with 20 Pacific women aged 40 years and older, who had been members of a GRx programme in Auckland City and Counties Manukau and had been discharged as independently active. FINDINGS: Pacific women had positive experiences of the GRx programme and identified an improvement in their physical activity, lifestyle behaviours and consequent health improvements. Positive experiences can be attributable to the social and friendly atmosphere created by their peers and staff, exercise options, and education workshop components. The social aspect of the GRx programme was the primary reason the women enjoyed and completed the programme. CONCLUSION: Pacific women reported health improvements from participation in the GRx programme. Further research is indicated to explore the health impact of the GRx for Pacific people and the benefits and acceptability of the programme for Pacific ethnic groups. KEYWORDS: Exercise referral schemes; Green Prescription; Pacific women; physical activity

Tyler, Linda. ""The hours and times of your desire": Sholto Smith's romantic vision for Colwyn (1925)." Architectural History Aotearoa 8 (January 1, 2011): 58–65. http://dx.doi.org/10.26686/aha.v8i.7101.

Abstract:
Early in 1920, French-born architect Sholto Smith (1881-1936) decided to abandon his Moose Jaw practice, and his Canadian wife and family, and emigrate to New Zealand. His decision seems to have been precipitated by a memorable encounter with a woman who would later become a celebrated pianist for the Auckland radio station 1YA, Phyllis Mary Hams (1895-1974). Sholto Smith had met Hams during World War I while he was on leave from the Canadian Expeditionary Force and visiting Colwyn Bay, North Wales. Sholto Smith's major contribution to Arts and Crafts Auckland, the house he designed as a gift for Phyllis Hams on the occasion of their marriage on 3 March 1925, was named Colwyn to memorialise their Welsh meeting place. Despite only living in New Zealand for his last 16 years, Sholto Smith left a legacy of over 100 buildings. Colwyn was a well-placed advertisement for his domestic architecture, and his Arts and Crafts and Tudor house designs were soon in great demand throughout the building boom of the 1920s. Smith had arrived in Auckland on 17 March 1920 and immediately joined the practice of Thomas Coulthard Mullions (1878-1957) and C Fleming McDonald. The latter had been the architect of the original Masonic Hotel in Napier (1897), and the firm originally specialised in hotels and commercial architecture using modern materials including reinforced concrete, but dressing the modernist structure with historicist references. Several of their inner-city Auckland buildings such as the Waitemata and Manukau Council building on the corner of Shortland and Princes Street, Chancery Chambers in O'Connell Street and the Lister building on the corner of Victoria and Lorne Streets, still survive. After McDonald's death, Sholto Smith became a partner in the firm and encouraged Thomas Mullions to move into residential property development in central Auckland: Shortland Flats (1922) was a commercial venture where the architects formed a company owning shares in the building which comprised 24 flats designed to generate rental income. But detached suburban domestic architecture was Sholto Smith's real passion. Before leaving Canada for fresh beginnings in New Zealand, he drew an architectural perspective for his ideal home. He titled this drawing Dreamwold, and his vision for this ideal house was to be realised in Auckland at 187 St Heliers Bay Road. For this house design, Sholto Smith drew inspiration from Canadian colleagues such as British Columbian architect Samuel Maclure (1860-1929) and from the British masters of the Arts and Crafts Movement including CFA Voysey (1857-1951) and MH Baillie Scott (1865-1945). Colwyn is reminiscent of the latter's Corrie Wood (1908) in Letchworth Garden City, Hertfordshire in its adventurous open planning. A little bit of Olde Englande recreated in the South Pacific for his homesick new wife, Colwyn was Sholto Smith's perfect Dreamwold, right down to the text on the wooden mantelpiece over the fireplace. The quote inscribed there is taken from the beginning of Shakespeare's sonnet 57, and seems addressed by Smith to his 30-year-old bride: "Being your slave, what should I do but tend upon the hours and times of your desire?" Epitomising the romantic archetype, Colwyn remains a fine example of the type of Arts and Crafts dwelling that well-to-do Aucklanders aspired to inhabit in the 1920s.

Full text
Abstract:
There is continuing concern over the complications arising in pregnancies resulting from the abnormal development of somatic cell nuclear transfer (SCNT)-derived embryos. Hydrallantois (hydrops), reported widely in the cloning field, is a potentially dangerous condition that can rapidly progress to extreme abdominal distension, anorexia, lethargy, recumbency, and, finally, death of the cow if left untreated. Recipient cattle diagnosed with hydrops are commonly slaughtered or euthanized, resulting in the loss of proven recipients or market value, respectively. This has led to a growing perception that cloning is potentially unsafe for the recipients, which has ethical implications for the commercialization and public acceptance of SCNT cloning (Lassen et al. 2006 Theriogenology 65, 992–1004). Here, we report on the successful use of recipient dams after termination of hydrops pregnancies. Records from over 8 years of non-transgenic SCNT single embryo transfers (n = 1531) into 560 multiparous, mixed age and breed cattle revealed 100 diagnosed cases of hydrops, i.e. 13% (100/765) of all Day 35 pregnancies were eventually diagnosed as hydrops between Days 150 and 220 by rectal palpation. In the early years, 12 of these recipients were slaughtered to recover maternal, placental, and fetal tissues. In later years, after the diagnosis of hydrops between Days 150 and 220 of gestation by repeated rectal palpation, 88 hydrops pregnancies were electively terminated after single IM injections of 25 mg long-acting dexamethasone (dexamethasone trimethylacetate, Dexavet; Bomac Laboratories, Manukau City, New Zealand) followed 5 days later by topical cervical application of prostaglandin F2α (Berg et al. 2006 7th Int. Ruminant Reprod. Symp., abst ? 10). Following adequate cervical softening and dilation, the commonly found over-sized, abdominally distended fetuses were safely delivered per vaginum prior to fetal death. The recipients were then aggressively treated with intrauterine and systemic oxytetracycline and repeated alternate day injections of prostaglandins until cleared of all retained placenta and membranes. After the minimal 60-day recovery period and assessment of return to cyclicity, 24/40 (60%) of these animals became pregnant within two rounds of single embryo SCNT transfer, with an overall embryo survival of 40% (27/67) at Day 35. This is not statistically different from the embryo survival rate of 50% (765/1531) for the entire herd over the 8 years. These data also confirm that the cause of hydrops resides mainly with the SCNT embryos and is not an inherent recipient problem. Thus, with early diagnosis and termination, and avoiding the exposure of the recipient to necrotic fetal tissues by careful delivery of live fetuses, these animals can successfully recover and be re-used to carry subsequent pregnancies or be salvaged for commercial slaughter. Application of this approach for the treatment of hydrops can considerably reduce the wastage of recipient animals and ameliorate some of the animal welfare concerns with cloning technology.

Abstract:
Surabaya is the capital of the province of East Java and is the second largest city in Indonesia after Jakarta. As a city that will continue to develop, the mobility of the people is getting higher, as well as the progress of the current means of transportation which is increasing, causing traffic problems, one of which occurs at intersections. One of the intersections that will be reviewed is the Raya Manukan intersection. This study uses the MKJI 1997 guideline, with primary data collection by means of traffic conditions survey and secondary collection, namely data on the number of vehicle growth from the Department of Population and Civil Registry of Surabaya City. This study aims to determine the performance of the unsigned intersection at the Raya Manukan intersection. With this research data, as well as from the results of traffic analysis at the Raya Manukan intersection with the boundary from the Amd Street Intersection to the Buntaran Street Intersection. From the calculation results, it is obtained that the intersection capacity is 3750.9 pcu / hour, with a degree of saturation value of 0.8254. From the results of the analysis, the calculations that have been carried out have not been able to reach the desired degree of saturation value, which is as suggested by MKJI 1997.Therefore then an alternative is made with road widening engineering and produces a saturation degree value of 0.7493, so that the road widening on Raya Manukan Kulon is the best alternative in solving the capacity problem of Intersection Manukan.

Abstract:
AbstractThe subject of this article is theBook on Saving Lives(Jiuming shu) written by the late Ming scholar-official Lü Kun. The book enjoyed great popularity during the Ming and Qing dynasties and offers practical advice for those who were in charge of city defense. Lü wrote this text in anticipation of imminent social crises. His prime motivation was to save the lives of his fellow countrymen when “bandits” attacked the county seat. The book, which is a survival manual rather than a handbook for magistrates, was written for military non-professionals who would lead the civilian population to defend the county. On the other hand, the text is of a military nature and refers to the military function of Chinese towns.The majority of the book deals with military preparedness. Although the book also discusses various aspects of city defense such as weapons, tactics, fortification, training, and military law, Lü himself lacked combat experience. In this respect, the book illustrates a dilemma: The defense of small cities lay beyond the scope of the central government. This placed the responsible officials in a difficult and contradictory situation. The magistrate, for example, was not prepared for the job. He lacked military experience but had to lead the local population into war. Despite his power, he depended on the cooperation of the people, including the assistance of rich families and the support of armed villagers skilled in martial arts. In this way, Lü Kun’s treatise illustrates the consequences of earlier political decisions to concentrate the military on the northern border and around the capital.

Dowsing, V. A. "The provision of recreation opportunities for people with disabilities : a tale of two cities." Diss., Lincoln University, 2008. http://hdl.handle.net/10182/672.

Full text
Abstract:
Disabled people comprise seventeen per cent of all New Zealanders and face barriers to participation in community life. This research examines the ways in which two local authorities - Manukau City Council and Christchurch City Council - provide recreation opportunities for people with disabilities and how these local authorities implement national legislation, policies and strategies which bear upon the provision of recreation services for the disabled. To achieve these aims, a comparative method which uses primary (interview) and secondary (documentary) data, is adopted. Central government plays an important role in the provision of recreation to communities, including the disabled community. It develops legislation, strategies and policies that guide the provision of recreation services for people with disabilities at a local level. Local authorities provide ‘spaces’ for recreation including parks, waterways and facilities, as part of their wider services and programmes. Their services respond to broader, including national, concerns, but also reflect local priorities and needs, including those of other ‘special’ populations. The results of this research indicate that Manukau and Christchurch Cities consult the disabled community and its representatives and address the specific needs of this community. Both local authorities have policies which outline how disability issues will be addressed; a disability-specific position which acts as an “internal advocate” for the disabled community; and a reference group made up of members of the disabled community. In the case of Christchurch City Council, the “KiwiAble” programme, “KiwiAble Recreation Network”, “KiwiAble Leisure Card” and Inclusive Communities Coordinator are all disability-specific mechanisms that focus on the recreational needs of the disabled community. However, only one policy in these two cities - the Manukau City Council Disability Policy and Action Plan – draws explicit links to a national strategy. On the basis of these results, a number of recommendations are made for future research and local authority action. It is hoped that the current study will provide practical advice and examples which local authorities can adopt, to further enhance recreational provisions for people with disabilities.

lt;p align="justify"gt; O presente trabalho foi desenvolvido a partir de dados coletados em uma fazenda produtora de café localizada no município de Caratinga – MG, buscando estudar, através da análise ergonômica do trabalho, a atividade de pulverização que utiliza o equipamento costal manual. O estudo contemplou a caracterização do perfil e a saúde do trabalhador envolvido no processo, a determinação dos riscos de lesões osteomusculares, bem como a avaliação da carga de trabalho físico através do gasto calórico e da freqüência cardíaca. A investigação se deu com a aplicação de um questionário com perguntas sobre o perfil e a saúde dos trabalhadores, um questionário para avaliação subjetiva da dor, além do questionário Nórdico. Este último é um instrumento validado que investiga a incidência de dor/desconforto osteomuscular nas articulações. Os resultados indicaram que a idade média dos trabalhadores é de 28 anos, sendo o tempo médio de trabalho com pulverização de 6,6 anos. O questionário Nórdico revelou que as maiores queixas sobre dor/desconforto no corpo ao final da atividade foram as relativas às dores nos ombros (81,81%). Para determinação dos riscos osteomusculares realizou-se um check list simplificado para os fatores de risco às lombalgias e uma análise da sobrecarga para os membros superiores. O risco de lombalgia foi considerado alto para o processo de enchimento do pulverizador e moderado para o processo de pulverização. O gasto energético durante a atividade classificou a carga de trabalho como moderadamente pesada para 63,6% dos trabalhadores, pesada para 27,2% e pesadíssimo para 9,1%. Tomando como base a freqüência cardíaca de trabalho, a carga de trabalho mostrou-se pesada para 63,6% e moderadamente pesada para 36,4% dos trabalhadores. A atividade de pulverização exigia uma carga superior ao limite, quanto a freqüência cardíaca, para 63,6% dos trabalhadores e em apenas 36,4%, a atividade não superou esta carga limite.lt;/pgt;
lt;p align="justify"gt; The research was developed from data collected in a producing coffee farm of located in the city of Caratinga, Minas Gerais State, Brazil, to study the activity of spraying that uses the manual costal equipment through the ergonomic analysis of the work. The study involved the characterization of the profile and the health of the coffee workers, the determination of the risks of muscle-skeletal injuries and the evaluation of the load of physical work through the expense caloric and of the cardiac frequency. The date was collected through application of a questionnaire with questions about the profile and the health of the workers, and through the Nordic questionnaire. This last one is a validated instrument that investigates the pain incidence/discomfort to muscle-skeletal in the joints. The results shamed an average age of the workers of 28 years and an average time of work with spraying of 6,6 years. Information of the Nordic questionnaire appointed that the biggest complaints on pain/discomfort in the body at the end of the activity were pains in the shoulders (81,81%). A simplified check list were used for determination of the muscle-skeletal risks check list, including the factors of risk to the lumbar pains and one analyses of the overload for the superior members. The lumbar pains risk was considered moderate for the spraying process and high for the wadding process. The energy expense during the activity classified the load of work as moderately heavy for 63,6%, of workers heavy for 27,2%, and very heavy for 9,1%. In accordance with cardiac frequency of work the work load revealed heavy for 63,6% and moderately heavy for 36,3% of the workers. The activity of spraying demanded a superior load to the limit how much the cardiac frequency for 63,6% of the workers and in only 36.4% the activity did not surpass to this load has limited.lt;/pgt;

Abstract:
Abstract Digital Earth and many other satellite and semiconductor-enabled cartography advances imply the need for a globally useful schema for more scientific and eco-ethical management of cities. How should we plan an internationally cohesive and locally effective system for understanding and managing urban stocks and flows around our planet? The answer to this question depends on new systems for managing geodata to underpin increasingly automated systems for evidence-based decision making. The current concept of Digital Earth as a “self-aware nervous system” is being advanced by urban proto-projects that are supported or followed by globally applicable initiatives including Singapore’s new Geospatial Masterplan, the International Standards Organization’s City Standards, Denmark’s Open Public Life Data Protocol, and the City-GML data model. These recent ventures are progressing a movement that extends far beyond the 1990s concepts of “smart cities” enabled by wireless telecommunications. In the Digital Earth science paradigm, cities must simulate their key situations and scenarios and analyze Earth observation data obtained via satellite-enabled devices that remotely detect and interpret all the light and radio waves of the electromagnetic spectrum.

Abstract:
AbstractColor planning has become a significant issue in urban development, and an overall cognition of the urban color identities will help to design a better urban environment. However, the previous measurement and analysis methods for the facade color in the urban street are limited to manual collection, which is challenging to carry out on a city scale. Recent emerging dataset street view image and deep learning have revealed the possibility to overcome the previous limits, thus bringing forward a research paradigm shift. In the experimental part, we disassemble the goal into three steps: firstly, capturing the street view images with coordinate information through the API provided by the street view service; then extracting facade images and cleaning up invalid data by using the deep-learning segmentation method; finally, calculating the dominant color based on the data on the Munsell Color System. Results can show whether the color status satisfies the requirements of its urban plan for façade color in the street. This method can help to realize the refined measurement of façade color using open source data, and has good universality in practice.

Municipality Facebook pages are significant social media arenas for maintaining contact between representatives and their constituencies. The authors use digital tools to collect and analyze some 24,000 posts from the Facebook pages of all Israeli municipalities in a six-month period. Following a purely automatic linguistic analysis of the texts of all posts published on the pages, this study moved to a manual coding of a sample of the most popular posts in the data in order to gain insight into the character of the discourse in these arenas; the actors; the format, type, and emotionality of the contents that attract the highest levels of engagement.

Abstract:
Agriculture holds paramount significance in Pakistan due to its high impact on gross domestic product (GDP). However, there is huge gap between actual production and estimated production in agriculture due to manual farming system, which is time-consuming, inefficient, and labor-intensive. As of today, ultra-modern technology such as Internet of Things (IoT) can assist in acquiring timely and accurate crop information essential for the success of precision agriculture technology. Towards such ends, the authors propose an IoT-based crop health monitoring system comprised of different sensors used in agricultural fields. Additionally, low altitude remote sensing platforms, such as drones, are used to capture the spectral imagery of the entire crop field of the study region. The development of such a system can be instrumental for crop status monitoring and localizing the areas under stress to maximize the agricultural output by leveraging the IoT technology.

Agonistic culture is remarkably prominent in the Oneirocritica. Athletes and actors are among the most heavily represented classes of dreamers, and people from all different social groups are expected to dream regularly about competing in or attending the great civic and Panhellenic festivals of the Imperial Greek world. This chapter attempts to reconstruct the world of these festivals, and to explain why they are so unexpectedly prominent in the Oneirocritica; it also explores the characteristic anxieties of athletes and their families, the symbolism of the athletic body, images of victory, gladiatorial combat and the theatre-culture of the Greek city in the Roman period.

The civic life of Greek poleis in the eastern Roman empire is very prominent in the Oneirocritica (particularly in Book 4). This chapter will discuss the absence of the Classical Greek polis from Artemidorus’ conception of the Greek city (an aspect in which he differs profoundly from other Greek authors of his day), and the rich and detailed picture that he gives us of Greek civic institutions and hierarchies in the Severan period. The role of civic elites and the social expectations placed upon them is a major theme of the chapter, as is the degree to which the Oneirocritica reflects the distinctive social and political conditions of his two native cities, Ephesus and Daldis.

Full text
Abstract:
Comprehensive disaster response processes need to be managed and progress communicated to avoid ineffective management such as duplication with stakeholders, amendments as a result of leaders’ incomplete instructions, and waiting without instruction from the EOC (Emergency Operation Center). As there is existing research on standardization and systematization of disaster response processes, a pure paper-based SOP (Standard Operation Procedure) is challenging to use in actual and practical situations concerning the standard workflow based on the SOP. For effective disaster management, this study developed a Business Operation Support System (BOSS). The BOSS characteristics have the standard workflow chart based on the related documents and experiences, such as the SOP, concerning manuals/documents, past experiences, and knowledge. The overview, checkpoints, necessary documents, related information systems linked to the disaster management plan, and document formats are defined in every workflow. Even for the young or non-experienced individuals, the BOSS can support the responders through the processes for necessary actions during disasters. This research aims to compare the effect of responses to the 2019 massive rain disaster in Kawasaki city, with or without the BOSS. First,a comprehensive workflow focusing on shelter management under the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) workshop with Kawasaki city staff and community people in the BOSS was created. Second, experiments (with or without the BOSS) were carried out to analyze the differences and the BOSS effect. “With the BOSS” means that the responders can follow the workflow in the BOSS for shelter management. “Without the BOSS” means that the conventional paper-based manuals are used for the operations. Two types of manuals in Kawasaki city were used; one guides the expected shelter management points, and the other contains the explanation about COVID-19. Members of both teams comprise one leader and two staff. As a result of the experiments, the big difference between the two teams is the leader’s behavior. Because the BOSS team leader instructed the different staff works following the BOSS workflow, the BOSS team responded to more kinds of works compared to the manual team. The role of all members of the BOSS team was evident. On the other hand, the manual team responded to one work by all members, including the leader, without the leader’s instruction. Due to no instruction from the leader, a period of waiting was observed in the next work manual. This research obtained that the leader’s instructions’ effect caused the effective responses by quantitative analysis of the demonstrative experiment. For future research, the leader’s behavior and decision-making should be analyzed for BOSS’s effective operation and team-building.

Abstract:
Variations of Urban Heat Island (UHI) effect within urban areas cannot be studied in detail using traditional combination of satellite images with thermal infrared (IR) bands and local weather station data due to their limited spatio-temporal scale. In this article, a system has been built to supplement the current infrastructure and enhance the high spatio-temporal scale. The article progresses from initially traversing through the city of Greater Noida to continuous manual data collection on an academic campus and later by automating it with integrated sensors on a microcontroller while achieving the objective of the collection of continuous high spatio-temporal scale data. Geographic information systems (GISs) were used to integrate and visualize these data with land surface temperature (LST) and air temperature data. The system provided the diurnal cycle of urban materials and insights into nighttime UHI at micro-scale. Overall the low-cost sensing technology presented has the potential to monitor citywide UHI.

Abstract:
In response to an outbreak of disease of public health importance, a city, county, or state health department can request field epidemiologic assistance from the next higher level public health agency. In the United States, the highest level public health agency is the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. To ensure smooth communications, planning, and execution of an epidemiologic field investigation, as well as to maintain good relationships from the initiation of the investigation to the final report, several operational aspects should be addressed. Key elements of operationalizing an epidemiologic field investigation include the following: 1) initial request and communications between inviters and invitees and a formal invitation for assistance from an authorized official; 2) clarification of the investigation’s main objectives and roles and responsibilities of those involved; 3) preparation of the field team for departure; 4) initial in-person meeting of the field team with local health officials and collaborators to review and update the situation, review local resources and primary points of contact, and identify a local public information officer; 5) management of field team activities with lists of necessary tasks for team members and frequent communications within the team, between team leader and senior supervisor, and between team and local officials; 6) in-person debriefing meeting with preliminary findings and recommendations by field team before departure; and 7) drafting of the final report with full findings and recommendations. Field investigations will proceed more smoothly and productively if both inviters and invitees adequately address key operational aspects before, during, and after the investigation.

Title: Spatial Structure in Chinese and Japanese Cities: A Comparative Study of the Supergrid and Superblock StructureAuthor Name: Xiao Fei Chen Affiliation: Faculty of Architecture Design and Planning, The University of Sydney Address: The Wilkinson Bldg G04, 148 City Rd, Darlington NSW 2008 Email Address: xche3951@Sydney.edu.au Mobile: 61 (02) 0450875226 Keywords: Supergrid and Superblock, Urban Morphology, China and JapanAbstract:Supergrids and Superblocks form an urban structure that extends across large areas of many Chinese and Japanese cities. The grid structures consist of wide roads at a city scale and define Superblocks, each with a network of narrower streets. My paper investigates the form-function interrelationships of these structures from morphological perspectives against a backcloth of theory that stresses an integrated network of streets as the prerequisite for a convenient and synergetic environment, with a specific focus on road/street networks, and mix and distribution of functional activities. Both qualitative and quantitative methods (including space syntax) are used to investigate four Superblocks from two pairs of Chinese and Japanese cities: Xi’an and Kyoto, and Nanjing and Osaka, from three aspects: integration, connection and interaction. Here I focus on the Nanjing-Osaka pair and the findings demonstrate clear but divergent patterns between the two cities, which are indicative of general differences between Chinese and Japanese Superblocks: there are very strong interrelationships between the street network and distribution of activities in the Japanese Superblocks, but these are much less evident in the Chinese Superblocks and this results largely from the extensive Chinese cultural practice of building walls around compounds. It reveals some structural disadvantages, leading to congestion of traffic and functional activities in some strategic locations in Chinese Superblocks. It also highlights some crucial qualities in the structures of many Japanese Superblocks that can provide inspiration for China’s future urban development and possibly for cities in other parts of the world.Reference:Alexander, C. Marinilla´s cultural landscape and spacial characterization (Colombia). Catalina Montoya Arenas¹, Lina María Escobar Ocampo¹, Claudia Maria Venegas Velez¹ ¹Facultad de Arquitectura, UPB. Circular 1 N°70-01 Medellin, Colombia. E-mail: catalina.montoyaarenas@upb.edu.co, lina.escobar@upb.edu.co, claudia.ve7@gmail.com Keywords (3-5): Cultural landscape, social management, heritage, spacial transformations, tourism Conference topics and scale: Stages in territorial configuration The historic center of Marinilla, National Monument since 1959, is located sixty minutes from Medellin at San Nicolas Valley. It has exceptional landscape conditions, highly productive lands, and a large percentage of the water reserve that supplies the region and the country, giving the territory an economic center character since the colony. These physical values make part of collective imagination as a recreation area and an opportunity for development in the 1960s, according to the construction of large national infrastructure works. At the same time, it was object of armed conflict in the 1980s and 1990s, and more recently, directly related to the spatial dynamics of the region: unplanned urban expansion, changes in land use and vegetation cover, with effects on the cultural landscape. In a post-conflict situation, the economic strategies of different actors trust on tourism as a social-spatial management strategy to improve the territory. However, the identity of rurality shows spatial imbalances without recognizing elements of historical construction whose legacies must be revealed to ensure equitable development. To do this, we propose an approach from the cultural landscape in a revision of the historical, symbolic and relational transformation through five systems (anthropic, productive, political, symbolic and spatial), analyzing competitiveness, tourism, landscape and social management, in different scales and during three historical moments. API 1160 (Managing System Integrity for Hazardous Liquid Pipelines, 2001) and the Pipeline Risk Management Manual (3rd edition, by W. Kent Muhlbauer) are among the very few publications that have sections addressing the value of adding valves on existing liquid pipelines. These sections cite two references: the California State Fire Marshal Hazardous Liquid Pipeline Risk Assessment 1993 and the Safety of Interstate Liquid Pipelines: An Evaluation of Present Levels and Proposals for Change 1987. This paper reviews and challenges valve placement considerations established in API 1160 and the Pipeline Risk Management Manual (3rd edition) including check valve inspection issues, valve leaks or malfunction, etc. The cost and benefit of additional valves on existing liquid pipeline systems are discussed. This paper calls for the need for further work or a collaborative study of the value of additional valves on existing liquid pipeline systems.

Abstract:
Feature extraction algorithms are routinely leveraged to extract building footprints and road networks into vector format. When used in conjunction with high resolution remotely sensed imagery, machine learning enables the automation of such feature extraction workflows. However, many of the feature extraction algorithms currently available have not been thoroughly evaluated in a scientific manner within complex terrain such as the cities of developing countries. This report details the performance of three automated feature extraction (AFE) datasets: Ecopia, Tier 1, and Tier 2, at extracting building footprints and roads from high resolution satellite imagery as compared to manual digitization of the same areas. To avoid environmental bias, this assessment was done in two different regions of the world: Maracay, Venezuela and Niamey, Niger. High, medium, and low urban density sites are compared between regions. We quantify the accuracy of the data and time needed to correct the three AFE datasets against hand digitized reference data across ninety tiles in each city, selected by stratified random sampling. Within each tile, the reference data was compared against the three AFE datasets, both before and after analyst editing, using the accuracy assessment metrics of Intersection over Union and F1 Score for buildings and roads, as well as Average Path Length Similarity (APLS) to measure road network connectivity. It was found that of the three AFE tested, the Ecopia data most frequently outperformed the other AFE in accuracy and reduced the time needed for editing.
