Abstract:
The article presents an analysis of methods for predicting the resource of individual and unique machines based on scientific works, inventions, and regulatory documents since 1988. The analysis touched upon the works devoted to forecasting the design, initial, determined during manufacture, and residual resources. The advantages and disadvantages of methods for estimating the resource of single and unique machines are considered. The analysis showed that in most works and methodological recommendations, methods of forecasting the residual resource are mainly given. As is known, safety begins at the stage of project development, therefore, it is necessary to evaluate not only the residual resource, as is customary in most scientific developments, but also to more accurately determine the initial resource during manufacture and the current resource during operation. In earlier works, only the reliability of hazardous facilities was considered, and only in the last decade has the development of methods for evaluating the design and initial resource in the manufacture of single and unique machines begun. The ways of development of methods for assessing the resource of individual and unique machines in their manufacture in accordance with the requirements of standards and technical documentation are shown

Abstract:
The paper contains results of a comprehensive research and development programme aimed at an evaluation of static strength of a GRP railway bogie of a new advanced design. The works were carried out as one of the essential phases of the implementation of a EUREKA project EUROBOGIE, which is aimed at development of advanced vehicle bogies and has a great potential to lead to more efficient movement of freight and passengers with lower environmental impact. The GRP bogie design consists of three main load carrying parts, namely two quite massive longitudinal side frames connected by a central transom plate which are manufactured in a single moulding operation using the resin transfer moulding (RTM) method. Since the component is unusually thick, all parameters of the RTM method have to be well balanced. One of the critical issues in the design and manufacture is the connection area of the transom with the side frames. Therefore, testing of this subcomponent was an important part of the bogie development. Results of the experimental programme provided necessary feedback for the optimization of the manufacture technology.

Abstract:
The goal of the present study inspired by previous works on high purity aluminiun was to manufacture aluminium sheets of commercial purity, grade 1050, with a strong cube texture. In this preliminary work on AA1050, sheets which cube volume fraction reaches 65% have been manufactured. Parameters controlling cube orientation development are mainly the solute dragging due to impurities in solid solution and the stored deformation energy. Besides the 85% cold rolling (CR), two extra annealings and a slight cold rolling are introduced in the processing route to increase the cube volume fraction. The cube orientation, whose substructure is equiaxed, is important for its recovery. It develops thanks to the difference of stored energy relative to that of its first neighbors; the slight cold rolling enhances growth of these cube grains.

Abstract:
The aim of this paper is to present the results of prepreg nacelles design and manufacturing for I-31T aircraft. The work was part of the European Union project ‘Efficient Systems and Propulsion for Small Aircraft’ (ESPOSA). The new engine cowling design was preceded by computational fluid dynamics numerical analyses stage. Use of TP100 engine was assumed, which was installed on the I-31T aircraft in the framework of the ESPOSA project. This article presents the process of external geometry adjustment, chosen results of numerical analyses, 3D model design, manufacturing process and tests results. The new cowlings underwent ground and in-flight tests. Monitoring during the test included external and internal cowling temperatures. The collected test data were further analysed. Throughout accumulated energy in hot parts of the engine the temperature inside the engine nacelles rises. ‘Hot’ composite nacelles were used in order to withstand the impact of high temperature. In majority of modern aircraft propulsion systems, cowlings are made of composite. Currently, there is a trend to manufacture initially solution treated materials – i.e. glass and carbon fiber pre-pregs in out-of-autoclave process. Such an approach allows to accelerate the fabric layup process and achieve highly repeatable structure. Materials that are currently available in the market allow to manufacture the cowlings and simultaneous weight minimization. Owing to the applied 3D software for both design and manufacture of machining tools, it is possible to shorten the time of manufacturing a complete element. The cowlings were designed in cooperation with the NLR – Netherlands Aerospace Centre, who was a partner in the ESPOSA project and has experience in prepreg elements design. NLR was responsible for material selection and final part manufacturing. Tooling has been designed and manufactured in the Institute of Aviation in Warsaw. The assembly works were carried out by Zakłady lotnicze Margański & Mysłowski.

Abstract:
Material analysis of cultural artifacts can uncover aspects of the creative process and help determine the origin and authenticity of works of art. Technical studies on abstract expressionist paintings revealed a luminescence signature from titanium white paints whose pigments were manufactured by coprecipitation with calcium or barium sulfate. We propose that trace neodymium present in some ilmenite (FeTiO3) ores can be trapped in the alkaline earth sulfate during coprecipitation, generating a luminescent marker characteristic of the ore and process. We show that the luminescence is linked to a specific ilmenite source used in historic TITANOX pigments, is not present in pigments produced by more advanced chemistries, and provides dating information. Facile Raman-based detection of this luminescence, along with characteristic peaks of rutile, anatase, calcium sulfate, or barium sulfate, can identify the type of titanium white pigment and narrow its manufacture date range.

Abstract:
Introduction. Metal reinforcement A-IIIв, manufactured from reinforcement A-III in accordance with GOST 5781 by pulling, was quite widely used for slabs of span structures of bridges in the period before 1991, as well as later. There is a need to repair such structures due to the exhaustion of their resource due to a significant duration of operation, damage due to the impact of means of destruction during hostilities. Often, the best option for repairing such spans is to replace a separate plate or plates with similar ones, since in this case there are no problems with the size of height, resting on existing supports, etc. Problem Statement. The vast majority of bridges in Ukraine, built in the period 1960-1991 and, to a large extent, in subsequent years, were designed according to typical projects. A large number of these bridges were built from girder slabs according to typical designs, where class A-IIIв reinforcement was used as prestressed reinforcement. These reinforcements were produced directly at the factories producing slabs structures from reinforcements of class A-III in accordance with GOST 5781 by pulling. To perform such works, the manufacturing plant must have appropriate equipment, qualified specialists, documentation, and obtain reinforcements of the required quality. As for the documentation, in the period up to 1991, such documentation was developed centrally and distributed to factories manufacturing structures. After 1991, this does not happen, the documentation is often not updated, which can be the reason for not ensuring the quality of the structures. Purpose. To analyze the documentation for the manufacture and use of reinforcement A-IIIв for the manufacture of slabs of span structures of bridges with a length of 12 m in accordance with the documentation VTP 21-86 (addition). To research the reinforcement A-IIIв, which is manufactured in accordance with the documentation YN 218 USSR – 026-84 directly at the manufacturing plant from the reinforcement of class A-III in accordance with GOST 5781 by pulling it for further use for the manufacture of slabs of span structures of bridges with a length of 12 m in accordance with documentation VTP 21‑86 (addition). Establish the possibility of using reinforcement A-IIIв in today’s conditions for the manufacture of slabs of span structures 12 m long in accordance with the documentation VTP 21-86 (addition) for the repair and construction of bridges.

Abstract:
Freeze Foams are cellular, ceramic structures with hierarchical pore structures that are manufactured using the direct foaming process. By tailoring their morphology and strength, these foam structures are able to cover a wide range of application. Earlier works identified that pore-forming influencing factors (water and air content, suspension temperature, as well as pressure reduction rate) dictate the constitution on a macroscopic and microscopic scale. Therefore, the ability to manufacture foams whose properties align with the component requirements would be an important step in advancing towards a widespread application of these promising materials. With this goal in mind, the correlation between the pore-forming influencing factors and the resulting mechanical properties was quantified. Foams with independently adjustable porosities were produced at the micro and macro scales and evaluated according to their material failure behavior under compressive loads. As a result, foams with determined macroporosities between 38 and 62%, microporosities between 25 and 42%, and compression strengths between 1 and 7 MPa with different material failure characteristics were manufactured and systematically investigated.

Abstract:
The article analyzes Qing monochrome products of Chinese porcelain and studies the complex technology of their manufacture. This publication is also devoted to the main identification problems of Chinese monochrome thin-walled ceramics and its terminology. When dating and attributing Chinese monochrome porcelain causes the most difficult problem. Thin-walled monochrome glaze ceramic products manufactured at different times are often distinguished only by barely noticeable changes in parts and other proportions of products. Furthermore, the plagiarism was uncharacteristic of Chinese, and the imitation and copying of works of past epochs, in their opinion, only confirmed the value of original works and even gave a sacred meaning to them. The basis for this approach was the idea of connection between epochs, the continuity of traditions and the respect to ancestors supported by the ruling elite, because it was a part of the official religion of the statе – Confucianism. The secret of regenerative firing has been discovered that restores the natural color of metals in their oxides in the glaze composition thanks to the carbon by giving the rich hue color intensity to the monochrome Chinese ceramics. The play of different colors achieved exclusively by ceramic techniques is very attractive, and products colored in such way are sometimes more expensive than the painted glazed ceramics. In Qing times ceramists manufactured a lot of porcelain products that mimicked samples of previous epochs. From time to time potters created almost exact copies of products, so it is sometimes difficult for present-day researchers to tell the difference between late imitations and original ancient works. That’s way the purpose of this article is to analyze works of Chinese Qing monochrome porcelain from the collection of the Bohdan and Varvara Khanenko National Museum of Arts, to demonstrate the manufacturing technology and terminological features and to specify attributions. This study has been illustrated by pieces from the Bohdan and Varvara Khanenko National Museum of Arts.

It is also well known that the surface of a component is important, in many cases, in determining how well the component performs. Ideally, the manufacturing process should be picked to ensure that the part works satisfactorily. In this paper, as an example, the specific function of gloss is chosen as a requirement. It is then shown what sort of surface is most suitable for this and further how this surface should be made, thereby completing the chain from manufacture to function.

The most widely used in construction materials industry are ceramic and lime bricks. Higher energy consumption and several ecological problems make their manufacture to become more and more expensive. The growing market of construction works and constant extension of real estate property increases the demand for cheap and new materials with desired features. As a result of many years intensive scientific researches there is now a practical possibility to offer an alternative and unique sand and water based products technology of manufacture (bricks, wall, floor and roofing tiles, sanitary materials, heat insulating and acid proof materials, decorations etc.) – all of them of desired size, shape and colour. The experience of the structural materials technology development shows that building industry will obtain improved service life and performance from quartz sand suspensions as field installations will continue to move toward adopting and utilizing practices based on technology described herein, rather than on cement technology. This type of manufacture is very profitable for the countries having the deposits of sand everywhere situated and being extracted at very low prices. Relative to conventional construction materials sand and water made products (SWP) with mechano-chemical binders will continue to gain in popularity because of the following advantages: low energy consumption and low prices for the products; ecological safety of the manufacture process and of the ready-made products; good mechanical and design properties; moisture and cold proofness; surface need not be fired; no shrinkage of the products after drying; simple to manufacture a variety of different products; ready availability and flexibility in design; absence of manufacture wastes.

Abstract:
ArgumentSeveral recent works in sociology examine the manufacture of public identities through the notion of celebrity. This paper explores the imagery of Charles Darwin as a nineteenth-century scientific celebrity by comparing the public character deliberately manufactured by Darwin and his friends with images constructed by the public as represented here by caricatures in humorous magazines of the era. It is argued that Darwin’s outward persona drew on a subtle tension between public and private. The boundaries between public and private were blurred by the ritual of Darwin “showing” himself in the flesh, either at home to visitors or, more rarely, on public occasions. The reputation for privacy and illness that he built up added materially to this public face. By contrast, caricatures tended to depict him as an ape. These apish representations played a significant role in associating Darwin, rather than any other thinker, with the notion of evolution, and in creating an alternative public persona over which he had no direct control.

Abstract:
Yttria stabilized zirconia (YSZ) is the most common electrolyte in solid oxide fuel cells (SOFC). The planar configuration is widely used for designing single cells, in which a thick cathode layer can be used as the supporting electrolyte film. The manufacture of the semi-cell formed by anode and electrolyte has been widely studied and there are many works dealing with its colloidal processing. However, the semi-cell formed by cathode and electrolyte has received much lower attention. This work deals with the manufacture of a semi-cell consisting of YSZ as electrolyte and strontium-doped lanthanum manganite (LSM) as a cathode through a colloidal processing route. The colloidal behavior of diluted suspensions of YSZ and the rheology of their concentrated suspensions were studied as a function of deflocculant content, mixing time by using ultrasounds probe and ageing time. The colloidal stability of aqueous suspensions of LSM was studied by measuring the zeta potential as a function of pH and deflocculant content. These concentrated suspensions were used to obtain thick self-sustained substrates by casting methods. The YSZ electrolyte and LSM cathode were prepared by tape casting in water medium.

Abstract:
As industrial manufacturing technologies continuously improve, many conventional industrial materials are struggling to meet the needs of today’s industries. Aluminum alloys are currently the most extensively used non-ferrous metal in the industry, whose properties include corrosion resistance, high strength, and high ductility. As a result, they are widely used in many products, such as doors and windows, vehicles, and electronics. Pure aluminum though, is a very soft, silver-white metal, so to increase its strength, aluminum alloy manufacturers add in various chemical elements (such as magnesium, silicon, and zinc) according to international standards, and then adjust the proportions based on customer needs. If the chemical element composition does not meet specification requirements, it will affect the quality of the aluminum alloy product or even delay delivery and subsequently impact the operational performance of the manufacturer. To ensure and increase aluminum alloy quality, this study used a combined Six Sigma quality index (SSQI), Qpc, to develop a multi-characteristic quality analysis model (MCQAM) with five steps for the aluminum alloy industry. A practical example with a manufacturer specializing in producing 6063 aluminum alloys in Taiwan is given to demonstrate the effectiveness and feasibility of this proposed approach. The result shows that the proposed method not only effectively improves the quality of 6063 aluminum alloy, but also enhances its performance and capability (that is, corrosion resistance increases by 17%, strength increases by 8%, and stiffness increases by 3%). Finally, future works are also discussed in this context.

The design of a tool for printing supercapacitor electrodes has been completed. The basic material for the electrode is cocoa pod skin. The purpose of this research is to manufacture and assemble a laboratory-scale supercapacitor chip mold, which is used to facilitate the manufacture of the chip that functions as an electric current store. After the design process is complete, it is continued to manufacture supercapacitor chips using a press system. The actuator/pressurizer uses a hydraulic jack with a capacity of 50 tons, and a mold made of ST 37 and ST 60 steel. The mold is above the jack assisted by a steel frame as a pressure barrier. And a dial indicator as a marker to stop pressing by the jack. The process of making supercapacitor chip molds starts from cutting, drilling, turning, surface grinding, and welding. After the process of making components and assembling is complete, a trial of the tool is carried out to find out whether the tool works well. After a series of tests were carried out, it turned out that this pellet mold was able to print well without any cracks.

Abstract:
The avowed inability of nineteenth-century Parisian critics to express in words their impressions of music (whether instrumental or lyric) doubtless has something to do with a more or less general lack of training, but in the case of the works of Meyerbeer it also points to a particular idea of opera. An intense interest in orchestration (outlined here in reviews of Robert le diable, Les Huguenots, Le prophète and L'Africaine; also in Berlioz's Grand traité d'instrumentation et d'orchestration modernes) is articulated in enthusiastic examination of the instruments themselves, and in striking metaphors of science, technology and manufacture. The presence of this gloss on Meyerbeer in otherwise Romantic appreciations (for example Balzac's Gambara) suggests a way of reading opera reception in tune with the urban culture of the period.

Functional nanocrystalline metallic iron powder is produced by the method of electro-discharge in the low oxygen environment of water. In order to obtain superparamagnetic iron oxide Fe 3 O 4, the manufacturing Fe particles were oxidized in the oxygen-rich water to continue oxidation process. Besides, the nanocrystalline Fe particle will be oxidized at temperatures of 200° C , 250° C , 300° C , 350° C , 400° C , 500° C and 600° C for 1 h in air to produce iron oxide α- Fe 2 O 3. The X-ray diffraction, SEM and transmission electron microscope (TEM) were used to analyze the crystal structure and the powder morphologies. The results showed that pure Fe and FeO with a pretty narrow particle size distribution ranges from 1 nm to 10 nm were obtained by the method of electro-discharge. After oxygen-rich oxidation treatment the γ- Fe 2 O 3 and Fe 3 O 4 were obtained at room temperature in 10 days. Thereafter, no more transformation was found in water environment. This result proves that Fe 3 O 4 can be a stable superparamagnetic iron oxide. However, for the Fe particles heat-treated at temperatures of 200 to 600° C , α- Fe 2O3 was formed at temperatures above 300° C for 1 h treating time. Further application studies of this material will be presented in our future research works.

Abstract:
It has long been assumed that European scientific knowledge arrived in Tibet with the agents of the British Empire in the early twentieth century and furthermore that Tibetans did not engage with scientific knowledge until recent years. However, this is far from the case; from the beginning of the eighteenth century onwards Tibetans not only translated a great number of Jesuit astronomical works into Tibetan by order of the Kangxi Emperor (1654–1722), they also reformed one of the calendars in use in Amdo using the principles described by Danish astronomer Tycho Brahe (1546–1601). In this paper I look at how the relevant translations were done, by whom and in what historical context. I shall also explore the process by which the Jesuit-inspired astronomical and calendar turned out to be the catalyst for the adoption, reformation and manufacture of the Qing imperial calendar in Amdo.
