Abstract:

AbstractA total of 153 free-ranging birds from Germany belonging to 15 species were examined for nematodes in their digestive and respiratory tracts. In 51.7% of the birds 14 different nematode species were found: the intestinal ascarids Porrocaecum depressum and P. angusticolle, the strongylid Hovorkonema variegatum, which inhabits the trachea and bronchi, the hairworms Eucoleus dispar and Capillaria tenuissima isolated from the digestive system, the spirurid nematodes Cyrnea leptoptera, C. mansioni, C. seurati, Microtetrameres cloacitectus, Physaloptera alata, P. apivori, Synhimantus hamatus and S. laticeps, which inhabit the proventriculus and gizzard of the raptors, and the spirurid nematode Serratospiculum tendo, which lives in the air sacs. To revise their systematic positions the ribosomal 18S gene regions of the nematode species were analysed and a phylogenetic tree was constructed. The molecular data confirmed the morphological systematics, except the spirurid family Physalopteridae, which grouped together with the Acuariidae.

Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:
Mansions and individual residential houses of the early XX century form the basis of the historical center of Novocherkassk. The building of the city harmoniously combines features of traditional Cossack housing and adherence to the capital's architectural fashion, imitation of St. Petersburg. The history of the formation of the city, the social structure of the population, economy and culture determined the features of its architecture. In preparing the article, the methods of field and historical archival research, comparative analysis of works and their details, the method of analogies are used. A comprehensive analysis of typical objects – the mansion of G.M. Salnikov, the Shamarins' mansion, the house of the ataman A.V. Samsonov, residential buildings of the military master V.A. Ratchenkov and the сossack I.A. Suslova. The space-planning, compositional, architectural and artistic features of Novocherkassk mansions and residential buildings in the 1900–1910 s are identified. The authors present the patterns of location of two types of housing in the structure of the city. The tendencies of the Art Nouveau style in the mansions are revealed. A comparative analysis of the functional planning organization and artistic-figurative solution of the Cossack kuren and the city dwelling house is carried out. The study shows the influence of two trends on the residential architecture of Novocherkassk in 1900–1910 – the capital's professional design practice and the local folk tradition.

Abstract:

Abstract:
While visual emerges as a concept based on seeing in a narrow sense, it defines everything that can be seen with a broader meaning. The idea of seeing is not limited to taking images only by the eye, but also includes the interpretation of images by the brain. Mansions that are used in a television series shot in Turkey are presented to the viewer as a visual narrative text. In this context, these mansions are intended to be read semiotically. In the study, the placement of the mansion building style, which has an important place in Turkish culture, as a visual space and the meanings attributed to it are examined. Based on Panofsy's method of semiotic iconographic analysis, the use of these mansions is discussed in the context of the semiotic narrative. The narratives that exist through the meaning and visual narrative in which Turkish society has positioned the traditional living environments, as well as the narratives that it tries to place in the audience, are tried to be evaluated.

Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:
* * * Paul Mansion’s life can only be described in terms of his intense preoccupation for all things mathematical. Behind the mathematician we find a man who was firmly settled in a region he was particularly fond of. His strong family ties tethered him to both his kin and his birthplace. Mansion enjoyed bestowing his knowledge, and his wealth when the need arose, upon his nephews and great-nephews. This narrative persists more than a century after his death. As his family lore has it, Paul Mansion was a self-made man. However, a brief glance at his family history shows us that his family had long been involved in community affairs: his father and grandfather were both municipal revenue collectors. This surname, prevalent in Marchin for over three centuries, undoubtedly explains their unwavering commitment to this region.

Abstract:
* * * Although Paul Mansion is famous for his editorial activities in mathematics, having founded and run two journals dedicated to mathematics, he is perhaps presently a little less known for his own mathematical work, especially that dealing with mathematical research. This impression of him needs rectifying. First of all, Mansion is the author of many important publications on probabilities. His contribution to the fields of probabilities and statistics has already been analysed and is still being studied in the history of mathematics. In this special issue of the Revue des questions scientifiques, albeit in another article, Mansion’s thoughts on non-Euclidean geometry will be discussed. Having dealt with these two mathematical fields, we will show that Mansion was at the forefront of research in three fields: two in analysis, and the third in linear algebra with number theory applications. Mansion held an important place in the mathematical community of his time as an academic, editor, administrator and member of the Royal Academy of Belgium. Through the present study, we wish to add his significant contribution to mathematical research to this list.

Abstract:
This paper aims to describe and discuss the assemblage of marble finds (crustae), probably used to decorate some ‘first class’ accommodation or a bath-building of the Late Antique mansion in the countryside around the present-day town of Jesolo, formerly called Equilus. The validation of the presence of this kind of buildings is important to evaluate if the mansio was promoted and managed by public or private agency and to know which community frequented this site. The aerial photos analysis associated with a geophysical survey contributed to recognize many new traces related to the mansio. The combination of archaeological data derived from different methodologies and scales of analysis seems to be promising for developing future fieldwork and interdisciplinary research in this lagoon site.

Abstract:
Safranbolu is known for the abundance of its water resources. The city is a unique and historic settlement that hosts very beautiful examples of traditional Turkish architecture. The city attracts both national and international tourists. In this paper, firstly the Ottoman period water supply structures of Safranbolu are described. Incekaya Aqueduct and water transmission system, also known as the Pasha Water Supply System or Spring System are discussed. The Incekaya Aqueduct delivers drinking water from the spring at Danaköy Village to Safranbolu enabling the transfer over the Tokatlı Canyon via gravity. This aqueduct, a very historic and aesthetically pleasing water structure, was commissioned as a city asset by Ottoman Grand Vizier Izzet Mehmet Pasha in the period of 1794–98. The paper secondly discusses the pool rooms that serve as an example of the spatial usage of water features in traditional residential architecture of the Ottoman period in Safranbolu. The pool rooms were constructed either within or separate from the traditional Safranbolu mansions. Asmazlar Mansion in Safranbolu and Deligözler House in the Bağlar District have been evaluated as examples of pool rooms within the house, and two garden pools in the Bağlar and central districts are assessed as examples of outside pools, known as pavilion mansions with a garden pool.

Abstract:

Abstract:
The literary setting of Shirley Jackson’s 1962 novel We Have Always Lived in the Castle is eerie, symbolic, and inextricably interconnected with the main characters of the book. The Blackwood family, haunted by its macabre past, is confined to its mansion, which is a manifestation of its dwellers’ troubled minds. The Blackwoods abide in a reciprocal influence with their house, the titular castle. The aim of this paper is to contribute to the discourse on Jackson’s work and to illustrate a symbolic rather than mimetic reading of the novel. The theory of psychoanalysis, and more specifically the concept of the Freudian topographic model of the mind, is used to characterize the novel’s setting and its foreground characters. The paper identifies the three focal characters with Freudian archetypes of id, ego, and superego, and uses the theory to further analyze the relationships between the characters to prove they are each ruled by one of the archetypes. Then, it places the characters within the plane of the Blackwood mansion to demonstrate the house’s psychological agency over its dwellers. This is achieved by comparing the mansion’s floors to the Freudian levels of consciousness. Such an interpretation not only compares the Blackwood family to a single entity, a shared mind, but also includes the house as an integral part of its manifestation.

Abstract:
* * * This article proposes, firstly, a general study of the ideological positioning of the Société scientifique de Bruxelles during the first forty years of its existence by means of a detailed reconstruction of its programme, and, secondly, a specific account of its situation within the alternative represented by the Intransigent and Progressive Catholic camps. In order to achieve this objective, it favours the motto of the Société and the figure of its second Secretary, namely Paul Mansion, basing itself primarily on a corpus of texts consisting of his annual reports and those of his predecessor, Father Carbonnelle. While taking particular care in identifying that which, following the Roman injunction in 1890, might have differentiated Mansion’s mandate from Carbonnelle’s, it offers to test the hypothesis that this difference lies, not only in a more favourable attitude towards neo-Thomism, but also in the transition from an intransigent apologetics to a more balanced apologetics.

Abstract:
The activities of numerous architects of East Prussia in the late 19 and early 20 centuries and the structures created by them on the territory of the modern Kaliningrad region are still poorly understood. Max Schoenwald, who had his own architectural bureau office in Koenigsberg (Kaliningrad), erected various types of structures - religious, civil, transportation, etc. The main direction in his work was the design and construction of private mansions, manor houses and agricultural facilities. The mansion house in Grunwald (near the village of Klukvennoye), numerous villas at the resort Rauschen (Svetlogorsk), a rural farmstead in Uderwangen (Chekhovo) and other buildings have received wide acclaim in the professional press.

Abstract:
This report describes excavations at Basing Grange, Basing House, Hampshire, between 1999 and 2006. It embraces the 'Time Team' investigations in Grange Field, adjacent to the Great Barn, which were superseded and amplified by the work of the Basingstoke Archaeological & Historical Society, supervised by David Allen. This revealed the foundations of a 'hunting lodge' or mansion built in the 1670s and demolished, and effectively 'lost', in the mid-18th century. Beneath this residence were the remains of agricultural buildings, earlier than and contemporary with the nearby Great Barn, which were destroyed during the English Civil War. The report contains a detailed appraisal of the pottery, glass and clay tobacco pipes from the site and draws attention to the remarkable window leads that provide a clue to the mansion's date of construction. It also explores a probable link with what was taking place on the Basing House site in the late 17th and early 18th century.

Abstract:
"Alaaddin Hill, which is located in the city center of Konya, Turkey-Konya Province, has been exposed to intense construction and traffic; It forms the historical core of Konya. Alaaddin Hill is a mound that yields finds from the Bronze Age (450–2000 BC). Tepe is the inner castle settlement of the Anatolian Seljuk State and is one of the important natural and archaeological sites located in the center of Konya City today. The mound contains all the settlement levels from the Bronze Age to the end of the Ottoman Period. As a result of the archaeological excavations carried out in 1941, important findings were revealed in the mound. Alaaddin Hill Natural and Archaeological Site, Alaaddin Mosque-i, II Kılıçarslan Tomb and II Kılıçarslan Mansion symbolize the inner castle of Medieval Konya. The 2nd Kılıçarslan Mansion archaeological excavation was carried out with the support of Konya Metropolitan Municipality. As a result of the archaeological excavations on the mound on which the mansion sits, the wall extending in the east-west direction and surrounding the palace ruins was revealed to the west of the mansion. Archeogeophysical studies were carried out in order to fully reveal the wall surrounding the palace ruins, on the east of the 2nd Kılıçarslan Palace on Alaaddin Hill, the state of the western façade of the mansion, the continuation of the inner wall ruins passing in front of the mansion, to the east, and to clarify the integrity of the mansion and the Seljuk palace. Archeogeophysical studies were carried out in order to clarify the integrity of the mansion and the Seljuk palace. With the interpretation of the georadar (GPR) method used in archaeogeophysical studies, the anomalies of the inner city wall remains, which give regular geometric forms, were visualized in two and three dimensions.

Abstract:
This paper is an overview on the location and concentration of housing types in the Tokyo district, with particular focus on danchi and "mansions" (particularly "tower mansions"). The focus is placed on these two types of housing, the danchi developed by the Japan Housing Corporation, a public housing corporation, and the Tower Mansions developed by the private developers. Neither suburban detached houses, nor the government-subsidized housing other than that of the Kodan, were included in the analysis in order to keep our argument intact. Danchi (public housing estates) built from 1955 to 1970 were mostly built by replacing forests or agricultural areas in the suburbs. Land developments by Kodan as well as by private developers at that time had been concentrated in the inlands. The situation changed after the year 2000, when tower mansions, a building type that featured high-rise and high-density apartment buildings, allowed construction on much smaller plots of land than those in the suburbs, promoting brownfield developments near the city. Consequently, danchi, much of which are rental, and publicly owned, were built in inland, while the tower mansions, essentially privately owned, were located near the city, and near the waterfront. These two contrasting housing examples must be highlighted when studying the state of contemporary housing in Tokyo.

Abstract:
At present, there are abundant researches and writings on a Dream of Red Mansions. It is also common to study the mythological structure in it. However, the imagists pay little attention to the “bird”, which is rich in connotation, and there are few works to explain it from the perspective of archetypal criticism. This paper aims to enrich the mythological structure of A Dream of Red Mansions, using archetypal criticism and mythological criticism methods, to study the formation mechanism of the god bird worship in ancient China and its influence on the collective unconsciousness of Cao Xueqin, author of A Dream of Red Mansions, and through analyzing characters such as Hsi-feng, Pao-yu, Tai-yu, and Lady Dowager, this paper confirms the existence of the god-bird worship psychology, which believes that a large number of bird images in A Dream of Red Mansions are rooted in the consciousness of Chinese ancestors, and they have unique connotations at the same time.
