Abstract:
This article discusses the current state and main trends in the development of innovative activities of the enterprise. In recent years, there has been an increasing trend towards the formation of divisions by enterprises in order to secure an innovative development as well as departments for the development of innovative projects and the creation of Lin laboratories. Implementation of such innovative projects and introduction of innovations in enterprises is the main factor of market competition. It is determined that the intensity of innovative developments and improving the quality of human resources increase the level of competitiveness of the enterprise. Still a significant factor in the innovation activity of the enterprise is the proper need of the enterprise for innovations and the desire to implement them. It is worth focusing on organizational innovations in more detail, since that is the area where the largest decrease in the share of organizations by 0.6% in 2018 compared to 2015 is observed. It is exactly the type of innovations that affects the process of personnel management to a greater extent. Organizational innovations are subject to the fashion fluctuations, and companies are increasingly trying to implement the principles and methods of managing the turquoise organizations as innovative changes. A significant sign of the company’s innovative activity is the proper need of the company for innovations and the desire to implement them. The most common issues of innovative development of Russian enterprises are considered. For example, a key issue of implementing organizational innovations is the discrepancy between fashionable new trends and corporate culture. It is worth noting that at each stage of the company’s development, there is a change in the type of culture. In practice, Russian companies are at the stage of a culture of strength: few of them, while maintaining a culture of strength, have skipped the stage of rules and discipline and are implementing their activities with elements of a culture of success. Methods and tools of personnel management should be used taking into account the specifics of the type of culture in the enterprise. Examples of successful and unsuccessful implementation of innovations in the enterprise are given, taking into account the specifics of the type of culture, as well as the consequences of using these innovations. It is considered as completely unacceptable if an organization uses tools that are not appropriate for the next level of corporate culture, but for an even higher level. It is worth noting that the introduction of innovations is impossible without defining the strategy, goals and concept of development at the enterprise.

The paper identifies and characterizes the stages of modernization management processes taking into account the mission and strategic goals of the enterprise development. The research has covered theoretical and methodological works of domestic and foreign scientists on the problems of economic integration and best practices of creating big integrated corporate structures. Modernization is considered as a set of measures aimed at improving the production and economic activities of enterprises participating in integrated corporate structures in order to ensure sustainable economic efficiency. Moreover, the paper identifies the factors preventing the sustainable development of domestic machine-building industry. A number of problems facing machine-building enterprises during the crisis period can be successfully overcome by them within the frame of integrated corporate structures which are entrusted with a leading role in the development and modernization of the machine-building complex. Among other things, the formation of such structures is aimed at the innovative development and creation of various types of knowledge-intensive industries with greater value added. The paper presents the mechanism for managing the modernization of enterprises within the frame of integrated corporate structures. Priority areas of investments in the implementation of modernization projects are proposed to be determined not only on the basis of the expected economic effect, but also taking into account the potential of the entities under modernization. The approach proposed by the author for managing the modernization of the enterprise within the frame of integrated corporate structures can be used both at the enterprises of the machine-building industry and the industrial complex as a whole in the context of improving the efficiency of the management system. The practical implementation of modernization measures will enhance the competitiveness of enterprises, increase their investment attractiveness and switch them to a higher level of economic sustainability with a focus on achieving the maximum impact in all spheres of activity.

Abstract:
The purpose of the article. The article analyzes the corporate culture as one of the tools with which you can effectively manage the personnel of the enterprise. The structure of corporate culture is determined. A number of meaningful characteristics inherent in any corporate culture is considered. The factors of formation of enterprise corporate culture are investigated. The degree of conformity of value characteristics of enterprise corporate culture to the task of development is estimated. For the development of corporate culture of a machine-building enterprise, a system conceptual model is proposed, which takes into account various factors of the internal and external environment.Methodology. The most important problem of any Ukrainian enterprise operating in market conditions is the problem of its survival and ensuring continuous development. An effective solution to this problem is to create and implement competitive advantages that can be largely achieved on the basis of a well-designed and effective enterprise development strategy. In the context of radical socio-economic changes, corporate culture has become a significant factor influencing the effective economic activity and competitiveness of machine-building enterprises.Corporate culture is seen as a means of creating favorable conditions conducive to improving the efficiency of enterprise management and achieving competitiveness in the market of goods and services. The general importance of solving problems, their lack of scientific development, misunderstanding and ignoring the role of corporate strategy, the need to analyze existing methods and their in-depth study, the role of strategy for further development of the enterprise, its profitability indicate the urgency of the problem.Results. For the successful realization of strategic goals of the enterprise, the understanding of the role of corporate culture by the management is becoming more and more important. Every company must form its own system of corporate culture in order, first of all, to achieve the set business goal. This system must consist of certain values and be shared by the leaders of this enterprise. That is why the emerging culture becomes a kind of business card of the enterprise, which can be used to draw conclusions about its carrier. At the enterprise, corporate culture creates a special internal atmosphere that mobilizes people to fulfill higher goals and missions: the quality and intensity of work of each employee increases, production conflicts are minimized. Today, most managers see corporate culture as a powerful strategic tool that orients all departments to achieve common goals.Corporate culture and climate in the organization are the main factors of productive functioning of enterprises, i.e. they form the ideal of integrity, which in practice allows the organization to function most optimally both within a given society and as a special social group. Every company has its own corporate culture, which to some extent corresponds to its mission and goals, and the degree of this compliance determines the efficiency of the enterprise. To assess the existing type of corporate culture, you can use the test to identify the type of corporate culture that prevails in the organizationPractical implications. The model of innovation is based on the orientation of corporate development of mechanical engineering industry to stimulate innovation activities related to the development and implementation of innovations. This requires the formation of an innovative corporate culture that operates on the principle of innovation, or change in this way the existing one. The structure of corporate culture carriers is also undergoing changes in the direction of increasing the share of innovation-oriented staff with a high level of development of personal research culture. The complex model, in contrast to the above, is based on the concept of hierarchy of business cultures, according to which the central place is given to the corporate culture of the enterprise, the development of which is possible on the basis of a comprehensive analysis of external and internal cultural environment.Value/originality. The application of strategic management at enterprises allows to characterize economic, organizational, technical possibilities of production and their maximum use, in due time to coordinate work on business plans of the development of the enterprise. Strategic corporations always have the opportunity to behave consistently and systematically in their business, in particular in a dynamic market environment in general, which increases the likelihood of achieving their goal. Therefore, the introduction of a strategic management system in Ukraine is an objectively necessary process in the field of business management, which increases the readiness of business organizations to respond adequately to unforeseen changes and contributes to a sound, agreed solution to both current and strategic problems.

Abstract:
The mechanism of stimulation of employees taking into account the achieved personal results will help to increase the level of interest in reaching the goal of the organization, and to preserve its highly qualified work potential. The main features of innovation by industrial enterprises in the national economy are the long development and testing of innovations, the impossibility in some cases of full appropriation of it’s, the complementary nature of innovation, its close relationship with local conditions and high risk. The task of managing the innovation activity in industrial enterprises of the corporate type of the national economy branches at the present stage can be solved by applying adaptive approaches and adaptive management model. It is based on the formation of the program trajectory of the controlled system for a certain period and the creation of a management system action aimed at eliminating destabilizing disturbances that deviate the controlled system from the program trajectory. The efficiency of the national economy is largely determined by the interaction of science and practice, especially the introduction into production of advanced innovative technologies in industrial enterprises. Abstract:
The actual value of the issue in question lies in the new challenges present in the labor market and the transformation of public relations in connection with COVID-19, making it necessary to reconsider the mechanism of employee motivation, i.e. using the latest instruments for the utilization and management of labor resources. We believe that reasonable implementation of effective employee motivation instruments, developed by successful enterprises, will lead to highly productive work of employees at enterprises and increase the efficiency of human resources utilization. The article aims at analyzing the motivational models of the leading countries and to form the principles of implementing their experience in the business practice of Ukrainian enterprises. The research results in identifying popular instruments used abroad, which are most effective in the current situation in Ukraine, namely: motivating employees to innovative activity by evaluating the results obtained; employees involvement in the management, strategic planning and distribution of corporate profits; flexibility and social dimension of salaries and wages; scoring and rating employees’ performance; encouraging competition and teamwork. The principles of introducing an effective employee motivation model based on foreign experience are formed. It is concluded that if Ukrainian enterprises use employees’ motivation instruments that have proved their effectiveness abroad, then, if used systematically and holistically, they will bring economic growth to the enterprises and social development to the country, in general.

Abstract:
Purpose Taking on a corporate political activity (CPA) perspective, the purpose of this paper is to investigate how CPA affects environmental sustainability disclosure among firms in China and whether the disclosure level varies across ownership structures and environmental sensitivity statuses. Design/methodology/approach The sample comprises 652 corporate social responsibility reports released by firms in China during 2008-2010. Data are coded through a content analysis procedure before being analyzed using regression analysis. Findings The authors find a significant and positive association between CPA and environmental sustainability disclosure. However, the effect of CPA on environmental sustainability disclosure is significantly negative among firms in the environmentally sensitive industries (ESIs) and privately owned enterprises (POEs). More specifically, a firm’s environmental disclosure level is lower when the proportion of board members with a significant status, such as party chief of the Communist Party, is higher among firms in ESIs and POEs. This implies that firms with guanxi (i.e. Chinese-specific CPA) are more likely to be free from trouble. Originality/value This empirical study offers important evidence on the fulfillment of environmental sustainability policies and the effectiveness of regulatory controls that China has used in the development toward a low-carbon economy.

Most marketing professionals consider managing a marketing process at three levels of organizational structure: on a corporate, business unit and functional and core activities –analysis, planning, implementation, and control. The process of marketing management is to implement functions, each of which is a set of analytical and appraisal tasks and strategic, tactical planning. When introducing marketing in to the enterprise management system, it is necessary to ensure the creation of marketing services with such functions as, studying markets, determining the market capacity, identifying buyers requirements for the product, ensuring product competitiveness, organizing product promotion on the market, for ming supply chain for high value added products, the processing of by-products and waste products. In order to ensure the high performance of the marketing unit at the enterprise it is expedient to form close relationships with other management departments and orient the management system to meet the needs of consumers in quality, price and other consumer properties. Features of the environment of functioning of domestic producers of poultry meat characterized by a high level of monopolization, increased uncertainty as factors of the internal and external environment of the supply chain, stable dynamics of growth in production volumes are considered. This situation is conditioned by the peculiarity of meat poultry farming, where the peculiarity of the technological process determines the rapid return on invested capital and the high investment attractiveness of the industry, which resulted in the construction of innovative poultry farms, mostly of a vertically integrated type. Abstract:
The brand is the most important asset for enterprises. In a competitive marketplace, brand is considered the best way to differentiate products, to build corporate image and to develop bargaining power with retailers. Branding strategies are therefore a key aspect of corporate decision making. In this paper, the authors analyse the relationship between the ownership structure of agri-food SMEs and branding strategies. A conceptual model of how these variables are related is proposed and empirically tested using data from two surveys (2003 and 2010) of a representative sample of agri-food SMEs in the Languedoc–Roussillon region (South of France). The results show that ownership structure influences branding strategies in SMEs. This finding might be considered a challenge to the relevance of applying agency theory to a very particular form of enterprise and sector of activity.

Abstract:
The article considers the organizational culture of the enterprise as an important internal subsystem and a prerequisite for the effective implementation of its development goals. It is established that the current stage of socio-economic relations requires the intensification of innovation activities aimed at the development and implementation of innovations, both to meet the needs of consumers and to improve internal business processes. Since the innovative activity of the enterprise is largely derived from the type of organizational culture, an important task is to strengthen its innovative component. This involves the formulation and adherence to innovative values, the coverage of which should be reflected in the company’s documents, the system of motivation, transparent communication mechanisms and decisions made by management. The development of the organization’s values should include a component that recognizes innovation as a priority and an important task of the enterprise. Innovative values can be formulated in the following areas: employees; financial activities; customers and consumers; sustainable development of the organization. Conducting “innovative” holidays dedicated to the achievements in innovation, both individual employees and the entire organization, will help to “consolidate” innovative values and increase motivation. The same goal can be promoted by the development of the corporate image of the organization, style, emblem, elements of recognition among competitors, as well as the development of branded clothing for production workers. To intensify innovation, it is important for managers to understand their key role in disseminating and prioritizing innovation among the company’s tasks, establishing contact with employees, effective delegation of tasks, setting standards of conduct in the organization, personnel policy, and system of material and non-material incentives.

Abstract:
American and European researchers started emphasizing the role and meaning not only of information but knowledge which gave rise to a whole set of new definitions for modern society, including «knowledge society», «knowledgeable society», etc. Modern market conditions require businesses to find new approaches to corporate management, planning, and control. The right choice of direction in introducing new knowledge largely predetermines efficacy of achieving stated objectives. We often see how insufficient evaluation of initial economic opportunities leads to a halt of many perspective innovations and investment projects and programs because of the lack of financial and economic resources for their completion. It is possible to avoid such situations, if at the stage of practical implementation strategy formulation, we exclude “unreachable” projects based on the low initial innovative activity of the company. The aim of this research is to formulate methodological approaches to selecting projects of new knowledge generated based on widespread investment design methods considering peculiarities of enterprises development strategy. The author offers methodological approaches to selection of results of new knowledge generation based on widespread methods of investment design and considering features of innovative development strategy. New methodological approach includes the following stages: company economic opportunities analysis; innovative ideas generation; preliminary innovation selection; presentation of innovation idea in the form of innovation project; innovation project efficacy evaluation from the point of view of investment perspectives; evaluation of innovation project efficacy from company economics point of view; multidimensional analysis of obtained quantitative evaluation with the aim of choosing the most perspective innovation projects. This paper is focused on the first stage — company economic opportunities analysis.

Abstract:
In today's world innovation plays a key role in securing a country’s economic and technological leadership. It encourages governments to increase investment in innovative areas and look for ways to improve the efficiency of science and innovation funding in order to increase the economic benefits of R&D budget allocation. Despite vast differences of measures used by countries to promote innovative activity, it is possible to identify some common approaches to restructuring the budget support mechanisms for science and business innovation, which have been applied in recent years by a growing number of states. One of the most important trends, which has achieved global scale, is to expand the practice of project finance for fundamental and applied research while reducing the share of the traditional budgeted funding of research institutions and universities. In many countries, the transition to the project-oriented support of R&D stimulated institutional restructuring of the public science funding system, with a marked increase of the importance of authorized government agencies (foundations, research councils, etc.) involved in the assessment, selection and allocation of grants for scientific projects and programs. In a number of states, increased role of tax incentive tools for corporate R&D, larger financing of small and medium-sized high-tech enterprises and broader public procurement of domestic innovative products are among the main reform areas of state support to corporate innovation. According to the authors, despite the growing popularity of these approaches on a global scale, it would be wrong to speak of them as cure-all solutions suitable for all countries to enhance efficiency of state innovation. First of all, the experience accumulated by countries implement appropriate varies seriously and is not positive everywhere. Besides, the ongoing profound differences in the organization of innovative systems in certain countries make it difficult to use even those foreign developments in management science that have proven their productivity, requiring serious adaptation and adjustment to the specifics of national economies, and scientific and technological environment.

The article explores the sources and factors of forming the competitive advantages and competitiveness of companies based on the systematic implementation of intellectual leadership. The methodological basis of the research includes the theory of competency-based approach, innovative and strategic management. The research information base includes the official data from the Federal State Statistics Service, Russian manufacturing companies and the own scientific research findings. The research results include systematizing the new competitive advantages of companies formed on the basis of intellectual leadership (corporate culture, managing a knowledge system about key stakeholders, smart manufacturing, artificial intelligence) and key competencies. The pyramid of intellectual leadership is presented, which allows companies to build a personnel management strategy taking into account the gradual transition from the business management to collective management, and then to the spiritual leadership. The key competencies are identified and analyzed; they allow to increase the innovative activity of industrial enterprises (Research and Production Corporation United Wagon Company, PJSC; Novolipetsk Metallurgical Plant, PJSC; Red October, PJSC). It has been found that in Russia the large metallurgical and car manufacturing companies, food production companies are actively using modern digital technologies (electronic trading platforms, online stores, electronic document management, electronic procurement, online services for customers, electronic procurement for the needs of the enterprise, etc.) for developing their key competencies. In modern conditions digitalization of business processes is becoming an increasingly independent production resource and a key competency of companies contributing to the achievement of strategic development goals. There are considered the operating and emerging clusters in the field of information technologies that can contribute to solving the problems of accelerated digitalization of the economy in the Novgorod region, in the Perm Territory, in the Republic of Tatarstan, and the cluster of information and communication technologies in the Rostov Region.

Abstract:
Purpose The purpose of this paper is to present and interpret the “Enterprise Politics Model (EPM)” developed by Professor Antonio Valero, Founder and first Dean of IESE Business School, University of Navarra, Spain. Design/methodology/approach Drawing from a careful reading of Valero’s writings in their original context and some developments of these by his followers, this paper systematically presents and discusses the key ideas of Valero’s model for management and corporate governance. Findings The main features of Valero’s philosophy of the firm and of senior management can be summarized in four points: the firm as a community of persons; the firm as an intermediate social institution serving the common good of society; the different nature of political and technical practice, which leads senior management to exercise practical reason – not only science or technique, and at the same time a kind of political art, or wisdom; and the role and responsibility of entrepreneurs and top management. Valero emphasizes the political nature of management and, from a practical perspective, suggests a global analysis based on four big areas of governance: business activity, managing structure, institutional configuration, and professional community. He makes his model applicable by developing “political procedures”. Research limitations/implications Valero’s “EPM” is an original humanistic approach to management and corporate governance, with implications to business education. Valero’s contributions were based on his business and teaching experience and in a deep humanistic background, but adopted an intuitive outlook and need further conceptual development, actualization to contemporary business context and empirical research on the relationship between this model and performance. Practical implications Valero’s “EPM” is a practically oriented humanistic approach to management and corporate governance which can be a realistic alternative to conventional, and often criticized, approaches to management and corporate governance. In fact, it has already been successfully applied in several companies. Social implications In a context of growing discontent toward capitalism and the role of business in society, the “EPM” – discussed in this paper – shows how business might be run and organized to be socially responsible, contributing to the common good and respecting individual rights and flourishing. Originality/value The paper discusses, systematizes and interprets an innovative way of understanding management and corporate governance.

Purpose The purpose of this study is to assess the impact of corporate entrepreneurship. To this end, the learning process of the individual in skills, competencies and agile methodologies is considered, as well as the influence of corporate culture, ways of working and organizational capabilities in small and medium enterprises (SMEs). Design/methodology/approach This study was performed by means of an email survey questionnaire, conducted on 241 SMEs in Madrid and Guadalajara (Spain). The hypotheses were tested with structural equation modeling (SEM). Findings The results yielded a positive and direct link between the organization and the training of business leaders in programs of skills and competencies, as well as between this training and corporate entrepreneurship processes carried out in the organization. However, there is an indirect relationship between organizational activity and processes of the organization and intrapreneurship activities. Research limitations/implications The research provides a practical contribution to the SME perspective and raises awareness of the importance of intrapreneurial activities for business development. Hence, it becomes relevant to focus on training plans that have a direct impact on the development of business innovations that lead to corporate entrepreneurship. Originality/value This research contributes to contextualize and enrich the literature on corporate entrepreneurship by addressing the gap related to corporate culture, innovation and skills, through a model that shows the relationship between the variables.

Abstract:
The presented study examines the results of the assessment of the strategic sustainability of the complex of large, medium, and small enterprises in Russian regions. The specific features and parameters of the complex of enterprises in the depressed regions of the Russian Federation are identified. The hypothesis about the dependence of the economic indicators of regional development on the strategic sustainability of enterprises operating in the region is confirmed. Directions for applying the results of this study to boost the economies of the depressed Russian regions by improving the management of the complex of enterprises are proposed. Aim. The study aims to analyze the methodological approaches to assessment proposed by the authors as well as the strategic sustainability of large, medium, and small enterprises in the depressed regions of Russia.Tasks. The authors develop a methodology for analyzing the strategic sustainability of the complex of large, medium, and small enterprises in Russian regions as a crucial factor of regional economic growth; identify specific features in the development of this complex in the depressed regions of Russia by calculating an integrated index for performance assessment – index of strategic sustainability of the complex of enterprises in the region; determine the sustainability parameters of the complex of enterprises in the constituent entities of the Russian Federation based on the developed system of indicators. According to the results of the study, the authors characterize directions for improving the management of the complex of large, medium, and small enterprises.Methods. The theoretical and methodological basis of the study comprises theories and concepts of the role of enterprises and entrepreneurship in regional economic development, allowing the authors to propose definitions for the concepts of ‘strategic sustainability of the complex of enterprises in the region’ and ‘regional profit center’. This study also uses general scientific methods: analysis and synthesis, comparative and statistical analysis, systematization, calculation of an integrated index, cluster analysis, and correlation analysis. The calculations are based on the data of the Russian Federal State Statistics Service, Russian Federal Tax Service, and SPARK database by Interfax.Results. The study shows that the complex of enterprises in depressive regions is not strategically stable. In comparison with regions where the socio-economic development rate is higher, the depressed regions of the Russian Federation have a significantly lower proportion of large business enterprises, lower labor productivity and innovative activity of enterprises, less favorable demography of enterprises, much lower share and growth rate of corporate income taxes in the total tax revenues of the region, and other indicators pertaining to the analysis of activity of enterprises. This confirms the hypothesis of the dependence of regional economic development on the business structure of the region and makes it possible to propose ways of improving the management of strategic sustainability of enterprises in depressed regions for federal and regional authorities.Conclusions. The complex of large, medium, and small enterprises in depressed regions is characterized by low and extremely low sustainability parameters, which affects the economic and social development of the regions. Many key indicators of the development of depressed regions over the past 30 years have values below 50 % of the average level in Russia. Improvement of the management of development of depressed regions should focus on enhancing government support tools that facilitate the development of the complex of enterprises in the regions. The management of sustainability of the complex of enterprises in a region should be integrated into the strategic management system at the federal and regional level.

Abstract:
PurposeThe purpose of this study is to shed light on the relationship between patent applications and long-term risk for small firms across the global financial crisis of 2008. During a crisis, firm risk often skyrockets, and small and medium enterprises face significant dangers to their business continuity. However, managers have a set of strategies that could be implemented to increase a firm’s resilience, sustaining competitive advantages and improving access to financial resource. The authors focused on the investigating the impact of patenting activities on small business risk in a time of crisis.Design/methodology/approachThis is a quantitative study based on a sample of Italian firms that applied for a patent in 2005. The changes in corporate credit ratings over a five-year period are related to different proxies of patent activity using multivariate regression analysis.FindingsFirms that filed for a patent were more resilient, compared to the control sample, during the financial crisis. Innovative activities resulting in patent application seem to deliver strategic resources useful to tackle the crisis rather than increase riskiness. The moderating effect of patents on risk sensitivity is stronger for small firms and when the number of patents or the patent intensity is larger.Originality/valueLimited evidence is available on how patent applications are related to risks for small firms during an economic crisis. The authors highlight that the innovative efforts resulting in patent applications can support small business resilience. The authors also point out that the implementation of patent information in small firms' credit score modeling is still an uncommon practice, while it is useful in estimating firm risk in a way more robust to exogenous credit shocks.

Abstract:
Abstract Research purpose. The marketing and sales activity of a company can involve synergy, and coordinated operations can contribute to the success of the enterprise. However, the operations of the former departments often rely on individual successes, which boost conflicts of interest and hinder collaboration. The main aim of the research described in this paper is to explore the areas and focal points of collaboration and conflict in order to highlight the tools that can contribute to enhancing alignment and effectiveness. A further goal is to examine the relationship between marketing and sales and their appraisal of each other. Design/Methodology/Approach. The empirical research applied three qualitative focus group interviews among marketing and sales employees in different positions at multinational enterprises. Results are analyzed using grounded theory methodology. Findings. The research highlights the process interfaces between marketing and sales activities and results in the identification of the competence and attitude gaps in their cooperation. Marketing is an entire corporate function, although without knowledge of customers and markets and experience of sales it is unable to foster the innovation processes which, along with cost and time management, result in “efficient and effective corporate operations” as the core category of grounded theory. The outcomes presented here are novel in relation to how they highlight that collaboration should be grounded on clearly defined corporate targets and the engagement of employees with these, as well as supportive and reinforcing manager–subordinate relationships. However, the prioritization and appraisal of the departments of organizational units appears to be dependent on the position and information coverage of employees. Having more information increases the latter’s ability to better evaluate other fields of business. In addition to these issues, the explored discrepancies refer mainly to the information transfer process, suggesting that the external and internal accessibility and availability of information to departments is crucial. Information that is accompanied by accurate predictions about market demand and local needs adjustment enables successful innovation and helps create marketable, innovative, well-differentiated, high-quality, valuable products, the availability of (and customer responses to) which is required for the successful performance of a company. The former may be delivered through the contribution of both organizational units. Building and reinforcing human relationships can facilitate these processes. Originality/Value/Practical implications. In comparison to other research on this topic, the present study applies focus group interviews as a novel method to create a deeper and more thorough picture of the related processes. The model which emerges from the analysis of results highlights problems with practical management that can contribute to the development of a more efficient management system. Employees can be trained to decrease the identified discrepancies, while rewarding positive attitudes to collaboration contributes to their alignment.

Small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) play a significant role in the national economies of the EU member states. This economic activity has an inevitable environmental impact; however, environmental performance indicators are mostly measured at larger companies. Since the ecological footprint (EF) is a suitable measure of unsustainability, this paper considers it as a measure of the environmental impact of SMEs. An EF calculator for SMEs was developed that is freely available online, and it is a methodological innovation per se. Our previous research projects highlighted that the calculator must be easy-to-use and reliable; therefore, the calculator considers only the common, standardizable, and comparable elements of EF. Our results are based on validated ecological footprint data of 73 Hungarian SMEs surveyed by an online ecological footprint calculator. In order to validate and test the usefulness of the calculator, interviews were conducted with respondents, and results were also checked. The paper presents benchmark data of ecological footprint indicators of SMEs obtained from five groups of enterprises (construction, white-collar jobs, production, retail and/or wholesale trade, and transportation). Statistical results are explained with qualitative data (such as environmental protection initiatives, business models, etc.) of the SMEs surveyed. Our findings could be used as a benchmark for the assessment of environmental performance of SMEs in Central- and Eastern Europe.

Abstract:
Purpose This paper aims to present empirical results exemplifying challenges related to information security faced by small and medium enterprises (SMEs). It uses guidelines based on work system theory (WST) to frame the results, thereby illustrating why the mere existence of corporate security policies or general security training often is insufficient for establishing and maintaining information security. Design/methodology/approach This research was designed to produce a better appreciation and understanding of potential issues or gaps in security practices in SMEs. The research team interviewed 187 employees of 39 SMEs in the UK. All of those employees had access to sensitive information. Gathering information through interviews (instead of formal security documentation) made it possible to assess security practices from employees’ point of view. Findings Corporate policies that highlight information security are often disconnected from actual work practices and routines and often do not receive high priority in everyday work practices. A vast majority of the interviewed employees are not involved in risk assessment or in the development of security practices. Security practices remain an illusory activity in their real-world contexts. Research limitations/implications This paper focuses only on closed-ended questions related to the following topics: awareness of existing security policy; information security practices and management and information security involvement. Practical implications The empirical findings show that corporate information security policies in SMEs often are insufficient for maintaining security unless those policies are integrated with visible and recognized work practices in work systems that use or produce sensitive information. The interpretation based on WST provides guidelines for enhancing information system security. Originality/value Beyond merely reporting empirical results, this research uses WST to interpret the results in a way that has direct implications for practitioners and for researchers.

Abstract:
The economic behavior of business structures in agriculture directly depends on the organization of their cooperation in the economic activity process. The aim of the article is to study the features of modern economic behavior of agricultural producers in Ukraine. To do this, the author identified the distribution factors of organizational and legal forms of agricultural production by economic behavior type, as well as organizational and legal features of individual models of economic behavior of agricultural production in Ukraine. Materials of thematic scientific publications, as well as empirical methods (observation and comparison) and theoretical methods (analysis and synthesis, modeling) were used to highlight the features of the object of study. The influence of the oligarchic model of the national economy of Ukraine on the structural transformation of agricultural production entities in the form of subordination of the interests of the state to the interests of individual social groups and the low effectiveness of antitrust legislation is investigated. The author found that in Ukraine the dual structure of agricultural entities was formed, in which two models of their economic behavior were simultaneously developing. The corporate model is represented by large commodity production of agricultural products based on utilization of the resource potential of the reorganized collective agricultural enterprises. Individual small-scale model is presented in agricultural production using the resource potential of private households and farms. The author found out that the organizational and legal forms of agricultural business entities will be determined by their participation in the contract system, the feasibility of cooperation or their integration. Prospects for further research in this area are a comparative analysis of the role of behavioral economy in the economic growth of organizational forms of agricultural producers in Ukraine, as well as assessing the impact of innovative technologies on the evolution of management approaches in the agricultural sector.

Abstract:
Today’s economic reality requires entrepreneurs to introduce many changes, especially those of an organisational nature. The period following COVID-19 pandemic will require organizations to create new values, and a broader view of responsibility, to build mutual trust, and to adapt to the new reality. This paper introduces the principles of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), with a focus on ecology as one of the areas of CSR. It can be seen that the pandemic has accelerated environmental targets in many companies. This is due not only to the regulations aligned with the governmental environmental policy, but to an increasing extent also with changing social expectations. The aim of the article was to demonstrate the applicability of ecological, environment-friendly solutions as an example of CSR in the management of sports and leisure enterprises. CPOR studies show that most young people take responsibility for the state of their environment. The training of the test subjects also plays an important role here (CBOS, Environmental Awareness of Poland, 2020) It is assumed that the introduction of eco-friendly solutions in the operation of sports and leisure businesses is noticed and appreciated only by young participants in physical activity. The survey focuses on specific environmental solutions to create a socially responsible corporate image and how these companies operate in a changing environment. The results of the studies carried out for this paper are intended to help answer the question of the importance of emphasising environmental aspects and adapting to change by integrating eco-innovation into the CSR strategies of sports and leisure companies, whether these solutions are perceived by the purchasers of sports and leisure services, as they affect their image. and whether they lead to better relations with market participants.

Abstract:
In today’s economic realities, achieving the necessary level of financial security of enterprises is a prerequisite for ensuring their sustainable operation and the formation of competitive development parameters in the internal and external market environment. The effectiveness of this process depends on building a high-quality financial architecture as the basic structural element of the company’s financial security system. In this regard, the subject of the study is an analysis of existing theoretical approaches to the definition of financial architecture and its relationship with the financial security of the enterprise. The methodological basis of the research is the scientific development of domestic and foreign scientists, the fundamental theoretical positions of economic science in the field of financial architecture formation, financial risk management, and financial security of the enterprise. The purpose of the article is to study the essence of financial architecture in order to substantiate its determining influence on the financial security of the enterprise and ensure its sustainable functioning in an unstable development of economic processes. The article analyses the theoretical aspects of financial architecture and finds that the interpretation of this economic category is due to the existence of clear causal relationships between its constituent elements and their impact on the financial support. Proceeding from this, the definition of financial architecture is drawn as a set of interconnected structural elements such as capital structure, ownership structure and quality of corporate governance, which accumulate and mobilize financial resources, increase control over the activity of the enterprise, solve conflicts of interest between owners and other stakeholders. It is determined that the choice of principles and methods for constructing financial architecture depends on such financial interests of economic entities as forming a flexible financial potential, optimizing the structure of capital, increasing investment attractiveness, maximizing profits, and increasing the market value of the enterprise. It is proved that the result of building a flexible financial architecture is to provide the appropriate level of financial security of an enterprise by identifying, quantifying, neutralizing, minimizing, and monitoring its financial risks. It is proposed to systematize indicators of financial security level assessment on the most typical of its functional components, among which investment, credit, emission, innovation, and currency can be distinguished. It has been established that ensuring the appropriate level of financial security will contribute to achieving financial sustainability, forming qualitative financial potential, providing competitive advantages, harmonizing interests of economic entities, and creating an effective system of economic security of the enterprise. It is concluded that the construction of high-quality financial architecture is the basis of financial security of an enterprise, the level of which depends on the proper management of financial risks and ensuring an adequate level of safety of all its functional components. As a criterion for the effectiveness of the process of ensuring the financial security of the company, sustainable development of the enterprise was determined in the conditions of an unstable economic environment.

Abstract:
Current circumstances are shaping new conditions for the interaction of entities of society. The COVID- 19 coronavirus pandemic tests the partner relationship between government, business and civil society in the system of their social responsibility for the efficiency and morality. The purpose of the study is to reveal the theoretical foundations of the concept of “social responsibility of the state, business, citizen” as a determining factor of formation, self-organization, self-control, modernization of civil society and analysis of the practice of organizing the social responsibility system of economic entities in the EU and in Ukraine. The subject of the research is social responsibility as a fundamental value of society and social institute of regulation of relations in society for ensuring stability of living conditions. The methodology of the research is based on the set of methods of scientific analysis. In particular, dialectical (when characterizing the categorical apparatus of the subject of study); systemic (when analyzing the relationship of socio-economic processes); statistical method of comparisons and groupings; economic analysis (when processing statistics); historical (in the study of the evolution of corporate social responsibility (CSR) theory and practice); empirical (in the analysis of the practice of forming partnerships between business structures, the state and civil society in the European Union and Ukraine). Conclusions of the study. The concept of “social responsibility” is a fundamental value of society, and the system of social responsibility of its entities is a social good. It can be considered as a social institute of socio-economic relations regulation in order to ensure the stability of society and the development of living conditions. The systematization of scientific approaches to defining the social responsibility of economic entities as a social good made it possible to justify it from the standpoint of a public policy object, a system of ethical values of society, voluntary obligations of business and a way of managing a business entity. Features of the current socio-economic situation require strengthening of their socially responsible behavior, introduction and observance of new forms of interaction between business and society on the principles of systematic and longterm. The innovative model of the economy is raising new demands for socially responsible behavior of public relations entities. Models of its realization have their own peculiarities in every EU country. They are all stimulated by state institutional mechanisms (privileges in taxation, subsidies, control over compliance with social and environmental standards); international standards of doing business; control by the public (social reporting to stakeholders). Such institutional levers stimulate the integration of socially responsible behavior into the development strategy of the business structures. The European experience of forming and provision of social positioning of entrepreneurial activity is being studied in Ukraine and is gradually being implemented. The level of transparency of leading companies activities is increasing, especially those, the activities of which are focused on international markets (agribusinesses, energy and metallurgy companies). The lower level of transparency of such information is inherent for mining companies. Transnational companies operating in Ukraine have a higher level of CSR disclosure than domestic organizations. On their websites, twice as often as on websites of the Ukrainian companies, issues on human rights, CSR programs, policies and goals are covered. As the example of the high level of compliance with the CSR principles may serve the activities of the French-Ukrainian company “Verallia-Ukraine” PJSC ”Consumers-Sklo-Zorya” (Rivne region, Ukraine). Many Ukrainian business entities have not yet integrated CSR into their company management strategy. Further promotion of the CSR concept, activation of institutional, economic and social mechanisms for its implementation, evaluation of the effectiveness of its implementation are needed.
