Full text
Abstract:
The management of crises triggered by natural or manmade events requires a concerted effort of various actors crossing institutional and geographic boundaries. Technological advances allow to make crisis management more effective, but innovation is hindered by dispersed and often disconnected knowledge on the lessons learned, gaps, and solutions. Taxonomies enable the search for information of potential interest. This article presents a taxonomy of crisis management functions, designed on the basis of a conceptual model integrating the concepts of hazard, vulnerability, risk, and community, and the main consequence- and management-based concepts. At its highest level, the taxonomy includes ten functional areas: preparatory (mitigation, capability development, and strategic adaptiveness), operational (protection, response, and recovery), and common (crisis communications and information management; command, control, and coordination; logistics; and security management). The taxonomy facilitates the navigation of online platforms and the matching of needs and solutions. It has broader applications, e.g., for structuring the assessment of the societal impact of crisis management solutions and as a framework for a comprehensive assessment of disaster risk reduction measures. While the taxonomy was developed within a research and innovation project supported by the European Union, it reflects and is compatible with established international concepts and classification schemes, and is thus applicable by a wider international community.

Full text
Abstract:
Extensive research has unraveled a niche for melatonin that is of great significance for the female reproductive physiology. The potency of melatonin as an antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anti-apoptotic agent is being utilized to benefit female reproductive anomalies. Melatonin receptors have been localized in the Supra Chaismatic Nucleus (SCN), pars tuberalis (PT), and the gonads suggesting the regulation of reproduction by melatonin not only at a higher level but also on the gonads through complex interrelated mechanisms. Melatonin secreted by the pineal gland acts on the hypothalamus to regulate gonadotropin-releasing hormone and subsequently gonadotropin (FSH/LH) release from the PT. However, the de novo synthesis of this indoleamine reported in the gonads gave rise to the idea of a more localized action. The mammalian ovary has all the molecular machinery required for the biosynthesis of melatonin and interestingly concentration of melatonin in the follicular fluid of pre-ovulatory follicles is much higher than circulatory melatonin even in humans. This locally produced melatonin has been shown to modulate various pathways governing ovarian steroidogenesis. Further, melatonin and its receptors play a significant role in antioxidant defense mechanism of ovary for follicular growth and maturation. Exposure to stress strongly influences hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis and elevated glucocorticoid levels suppress various ovarian functions including implantation thereby pregnancy. Melatonin acts antagonistically with glucocorticoids, making it crucial for the management of the female reproductive functions/dysfunctions. Usage of melatonin during in vitro fertilization (IVF) procedures has been found to improve oocyte quality, survival, and fecundity. Therefore, in future, melatonin can be implicated as preferable therapeutic especially in IVF and assisted reproductive techniques.

Abstract:
Background: Tribulus terrestris (Zygophyllaceae family) is believed to have aphrodisiac activity in different cultures. Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of T. terrestris in the management of sexual functions in female and male patients. Methods: We searched in PubMed Central, Science Direct, Wiley, Springer, SID, accessible books, reports, and thesis. Results: According to the results of animal and human studies, standard T. terrestris improved erectile parameters. After administration of T. terrestris, an increase in testosterone level was observed in most animal studies, while this increase was not confirmed in male human studies. T. terrestris improved the sperm parameters in animal and human studies. T. terrestris enhanced the folliculogenesis and improved polycystic ovary syndrome (PCO) in animal studies. The human clinical studies confirmed its efficacy on female sexual disorders. Conclusion: Therefore, standard T. terrestris extract as a valuable herbal compound can be considered an improvement of sexual functions in both sexes.

Abstract:
PurposeKnowledge management (KM) is regarded as an essential factor in project-based organizations (PBOs), leading to organizational learning across projects. Over recent years, most PBOs have inserted project management offices (PMOs) into their hierarchical charts to manage their projects much more coherently. These offices can correspondingly provide KM facilities in PBOs. Thus, this study aimed to analyze the relationship between PMO functions and KM infrastructure, as KM enablers in organizations, in Iranian oil and gas upstream PBOs.Design/methodology/approachA two-phase quantitative survey strategy was exercised in this research. The first phase was to investigate the relationship between PMOs and KM infrastructure and to prioritize PMO functions and KM infrastructure based on their existing implementation/establishment status in Iranian oil and gas upstream PBOs. The research participants, identified through the website of the National Iran Oil Company (NIOC), were comprised of 46 oil and gas upstream PBOs which applied for exploration and production (E&P) certificate in Iran in 2016 and 2017. Accordingly, a total number of 46 questionnaires were submitted to the aforementioned companies with a return rate of 41 cases. The second phase was fulfilled questioning 19 Iranian oil and gas industry experts to determine the one-to-one effect of PMO functions on KM infrastructure and to verify the first-phase results.FindingsThe results indicated a strong relationship between PMO functions and KM infrastructure. This relationship was significant with regard to “practice management” and “technical support”, having the most considerable connections with KM infrastructure. According to the first-phase results, the main functions of PMOs in Iranian oil and gas industry were “practice management” and “technical support”. Considering KM infrastructure, “structure” showed the lowest mean value while “culture”, “human resources” and “processes and procedures” obtained the highest scores. The results also demonstrated that PMO functions could lead to more improvements in “processes and procedures”, as a sub-component of KM infrastructure, compared with other sub-components. Furthermore, the oil and gas industry experts believed that “organizational culture” in KM could be shaped by most of PMO functions.Originality/valueThis study fulfilled the need for exploring the relationship between PMO functions and KM since academic literature lacked a thorough investigation, to the best of authors' knowledge, pertaining to the effects of PMO functions on KM development in oil and gas PBOs.

As such, the objective of the present study is to understand the impact of AI tools on the development of business functions and if they can be affirmed as a means of help or as a substitute for these functions. In-depth interviews were conducted with 15 commercial managers from technological SMEs. The results indicate that all the participants use AI systems frequently, that these tools assist in developing of their functions, allowing having more time and better preparing to solve the commercial problems. The findings also indicate that the tools used by commercials are still somewhat limited, and companies should focus on their training and development in AI, as well as the training of their commercials. Furthermore, the results show that firms intend to use the data collection and the analytical tool that enable real-time response and customization according to customer needs.
