Abstract:
Children's Literature Can Stimulate creative ways to introduce new mathematics concepts or reinforce previously learned concepts to students. Primary teachers realize that children's literature is a powerful tool to entice and motivate students to actively explore mathematics. We believe that middlegrades teachers can also connect mathematics and literature to provide meaningful contexts in which students can construct understanding of mathematics ideas. We decided to explore the classic tall tale of John Henry to show how box plots (box-andwhisker plots) can be used to visually display and compare data sets. We took this idea into a sixthgrade classroom for a “John Henry Day.”

Abstract:
Payload authentication is vulnerable to Man-in-the-middle (MITM) attack. Blockchain technology offers methods such as peer to peer, block hash, and proof-of-work to secure the payload of authentication process. The implementation uses block hash and proof-of-work methods on blockchain technology and testing is using White-box-testing and security tests distributed to system security practitioners who are competent in MITM attacks. The analyisis results before implementing Blockchain technology show that the authentication payload is still in plain text, so the data confidentiality has not minimize passive voice. After implementing Blockchain technology to the system, white-box testing using the Wireshark gives the result that the authentication payload sent has been well encrypted and safe enough. The percentage of security test results gets 95% which shows that securing the system from MITM attacks is relatively high. Although it has succeeded in securing the system from MITM attacks, it still has a vulnerability from other cyber attacks, so implementation of the Blockchain needs security improvisation.

Henry Box Brown, a Black man born into slavery in the American South, devised an unforeseen yet ingenious plan to achieve emancipation: he was shipped to the North in a cramped, wooden box. The first testament of Brown’s escape was not his emergence from his box, but instead his voice responding to the box’s addressee. Later, Brown reenacts his original escape in Victorian England and becomes “The King of All Mesmerizers” by envisioning an alien future for himself, much like musician and philosopher-poet Sun Ra.

Abstract Over the past decade, subtitles have developed along with broadcast and broadband technology. Viewers nowadays enjoy new opportunities to customize subtitles to best meet their personal preferences or needs. This study aims to identify end-user subtitle setting preferences, to investigate whether these settings have an effect on content comprehension, and to explore subtitle usability for two groups of participants, those under the age of 65 and those over 65. In an experiment, three subtitle features were open to customization: the position, the box and the size of the subtitle, before and after participants watched an on-demand TV documentary produced by the Catalan public broadcaster TVC. Results confirm a preference for bottom and medium subtitles. Furthermore, while the under 65 segment made satisfactory use of the system, the over 65 segment experienced different levels of usability and reported different capabilities and problems.

Abstract:
The main objective of this project is to design and analyze the portable hydraulic scissor truck instead of manual pallet truck for the purpose of dropping and lifting battery box in AC Coaches to bring it outside for checking suspension/cradle of battery box for availability of all suspension bolts, signs of any cracks, corrosion, rusting and taking corrective action, if necessary. If suitable hydraulic cylinder with more power is used, this scissor lift can also be designed for heavy load purposes. This equipment will be simple to use. Frequent maintenance is not required for this equipment. In this paper we carried out detailed analysis of scissor mechanism members against bending and buckling failure and also focused on various design aspects and working of scissor mechanism and helpful to lifting and dropping of battery box without any failure with this scissor truck For existing practice the battery box dropping and lifting done by using manual pallet truck. It shows the design is unsafe handling, injury to employee and feel uncomfortable. It is very tedious for human being to lift a vehicle above from the ground. Even when a hydraulic jack is implemented, it requires manual work. In this era, every man in the world wants comfort and hence to relieve the problems faced by lifting and placing the battery box. Our project aims to reduce the manual work involved during the replacement of battery box instead of applying manual pallet truck. To validate our point and to reduce the above said difficulties faced, the design of hydraulic lift has been changed.

A man and a woman were found in a double burial dating from the 1st century BC and located in a Xiongnu burial site in northern Mongolia. An offering box at the head of the man's coffin contained both remains of domestic animals and a human hyoid bone. The skeleton of the man was complete whereas the woman's hyoid bone was missing. The isolated hyoid bone could belong to the buried woman, which suggests the removal of her tongue and probably her sacrifice.

Robinson, Matthew. "‘It's spiritual, man’:Eddie the Eagleand English Amateurism." Journal of British Cinema and Television 16, no. 2 (April 2019): 170–90. http://dx.doi.org/10.3366/jbctv.2019.0467.

Full text
Abstract:
The theme of amateurism has been persistent throughout the history of the British biopic, evidenced in films including Scott of the Antarctic (1948), The Magic Box (1951) and The Flying Scotsman (2006). Eddie the Eagle (2016), a film about ski-jumper Eddie ‘the Eagle’ Edwards and his preparation for the 1988 Winter Olympics where he finished 73rd out of 73 competitors, exemplifies how fascination with the amateur continues in contemporary biopic production. However, Eddie the Eagle represents the amateur ethos within a particularly unstable period for organised sports. The integrity of the Olympics and organised sports in general has been undermined by persistent corruption which centres on hosting rights, bribery and the use of performance-enhancing drugs by competitors. This article traces the genealogy of the amateur in British biopics, before considering the wider context in which Eddie the Eagle was produced. It then employs textual analysis of key sequences to illuminate the film's representation of amateurism and how it is constructed through oppositions: the value of amateurism against professionalism and the struggle of the outsider against the sporting Establishment. It suggests that Eddie the Eagle continues a theme at the heart of various British biopics, namely the integrity of the amateur and the value of taking part and ‘doing one's best’, at a time when the integrity of organised sport is increasingly under threat.

Abstract:
ABSTRACT The development of melanocytes, which are pigment-producing cells responsible for skin, hair, and eye color, is absolutely dependent on the action of the microphthalmia basic helix-loop-helix–leucine zipper (bHLH-LZ) transcription factor (Mi); mice lacking a functional Mi protein are entirely devoid of pigment cells. Mi has been shown to activate transcription of the tyrosinase,TRP-1, TRP-2, and QNR-71 genes through specific E-box elements, most notably the highly conserved M box. We investigated the mechanism which enables Mi to be recruited specifically to a restricted subset of E boxes in target promoters while being prevented from binding E-box elements in other promoters. We show both in vitro and in vivo that the presence of a T residue flanking a CATGTG E box is an essential determinant of the ability of Mi to bind DNA, and we successfully predict that the CATGTG E box from the P gene would not bind Mi. In contrast, no specific requirement for the sequences flanking a CACGTG E box was observed, and no binding to an atypical E box in the c-Kit promoter was detected. The relevance of these observations to the control of melanocyte-specific gene expression was highlighted by the fact that the E-box elements located in thetyrosinase, TRP-1, TRP-2, andQNR-71 promoters without exception possess a 5′ flanking T residue which is entirely conserved between species as diverse as man and turtle. The ability of Mi to discriminate between different E-box motifs provides a mechanism to restrict the repertoire of genes which are likely to be regulated by Mi and provides insight into the ability of bHLH-LZ transcription factors to achieve the specificity required for the precise coordination of transcription during development.

Abstract:
This work attempts to establish dermatological identification patterns for Brazilian cnidarian species and a probable correlation with envenoming severity. In an observational prospective study, one hundred and twenty-eight patients from the North Coast region of São Paulo State, Brazil were seen between 2002 and 2008. About 80% of these showed only local effects (erythema, edema, and pain) with small, less than 20 cm, oval or round skin marks and impressions from small tentacles. Approximately 20% of the victims had long, more than 20 cm, linear and crossed marks with frequent systemic phenomena, such as malaise, vomiting, dyspnea, and tachycardia. The former is compatible with the common hydromedusa from Southeast and Southern Brazil (Olindias sambaquiensis). The long linear marks with intense pain and systemic phenomena are compatible with envenoming by the box jellyfish Tamoya haplonema and Chiropsalmus quadrumanus and the hydrozoan Portuguese man-of-war (Physalis physalis). There was an association between skin marks and probable accident etiology. This simple observation rule can be indicative of severity, as the Cubozoa Class (box jellyfish) and Portuguese man-of-war cause the most severe accidents. In such cases, medical attention, including intensive care, is important, as the systemic manifestations can be associated with death.

Abstract:
Nipah virus infection is a newly emerging zoonotic disease that spreads from animal to human. The fruit bats are the one of the carriers of Nipah virus which gets transmitted from bats to other animals mainly through body fluids. Nipah can cause asymptomatic infection to the acute respiratory syndrome and fatal encephalitis in human beings with a dreadful mortality rate of 70 per cent. This review article focused on role of bats in ecosystem and preventive measure to contain the virus by improving public health. In 2018 the outbreak of Nipah in Kerala state of India claimed 17 lives. It has indeed opened Pandora’s box exposing the role of general public, health department and social media and so on. The early detection and the well-oiled medical infrastructure in the state did wonders. Though social media have been accused of spreading misinformation leading to culling of bats, the people of Kerala responded with positive frame of mind. Prompt and synchronized efforts of all stakeholders like health workers, state government, scientists, researchers and central government led to timely and successful control of Nipah virus cases in Kerala.

Abstract:
The DExD-box family (DEAD-box) of proteins was surveyed for eukaryotic translation initiation factor 4A-specific sequences surrounding the DEAD box. An eIF4A-unique glutamate residue (E186 in eIF4AI) was identified immediately following the D-E-A-D sequence in eIF4AI, II, and III that was found to be conserved from yeast to Man. Mutation to a selection of alternative amino acids was performed within recombinant eIF4AI expressed in Escherichia coli and mutant proteins were surveyed for RNA-dependent ATPase activity. The mutants were also investigated for changes in activity in the presence of the two eIF4AI-binding domains of eIF4GI as well as for co-purification ability to these two domains. The E186 residue was found to be of significance for RNA-dependent ATPase activity for eIF4AI alone and in the presence of eIF4AI-binding domains of eIF4GI through point-mutation analysis. Furthermore, binding interactions between eIF4AI and eIF4GI domains were also significantly influenced by mutation of E186, as observed through co-purification assays. Thus, this residue appears to be of functional significance for eIF4A.

Abstract:
John Galsworthy is a British writer focused on composition with reformist enthusiasm. His plays are known as 'Tragi-Comedy' examining his contemporary social issues and expecting potential arrangements from his crowd. His social cognizance and fighting demeanour towards the wrongs winning in his time has made him a craftsman with significant mankind and his basic disposition towards bigotry, obliviousness, deception, oppression, strange notion, and the remainder of the social variations in his plays affirm his stand as an ethical craftsman with humanistic worries.Hence, this paper endeavours to follow the humanistic worries in Galsworthy's emotional works. His assault is coordinated on the visual deficiency of the legal framework, racial bias and prideful bias, hallucination and various indecencies that plague the indispensable of our life. His objective viewpoint and unprejudiced treatment of the issue provide us with the undistorted standpoint of the basic shortcoming imbued in the general set of laws. The plays TheSilver Box, Strife, The Skin Game and Justice are analysed based on humanism to bring Galsworthy’s concern towards humanism. This paper centres around his humanistic conviction that man is intrinsically great yet the social foundations have frequently exploited man and prevented his endurance and progress.

Abstract:
Through an in-depth analysis of gender representation in the box office record-breaking Chinese movie Wolf Warrior II, this study interrogates how the male body is used as a site for the projection of Chinese national power. Furthermore, it illustrates a revival of patriotic pride in China through a contemporary reading of cross-genre action-military films. Developing Shuqin Cui’s notion of “woman-as-nation,” which understands on-screen female victimization in Chinese films as signifying the past suffering of the nation, this study proposes the new concept of “man-as-nation” to explain how the masculine virtues of male protagonists in Chinese films signify the nation’s rejuvenation and strength. Framing male virtue into the paradigms of wu (武), as martial valor, and wen (文), as cultural attainment, this article argues that masculinity has come to symbolize China’s enhanced comprehensive power and to embody its ideological orientation in both global and domestic domains.

Abstract:
Most electrical appliances require continuous power supply. For domestic use, crucial appliances such as refrigerator, aquarium and alarm system highly depend upon the continuity of power supply. However, if they are left without electricity due to power outage or blackouts caused by internal or external disturbance, the discontinuity of power supply could be a critical issue to some involving party. Blackouts may be due to short circuit, fault or the overloading of electricity mains. During power outage, Residual Current Device (RCD) detects fault currents from live to the neutral wire within circuit and will trip to prevent shock. This circumstance can increase safety when a house is left unoccupied. Be that as it may, the power will remain switched off until manually reset by man. Thus, this paper presented a new concept of Three-Phase distribution box system in order to overcome tripping problem. This system will be able to identify and isolate the fault using measurement of current flow into each Miniature Circuit Breaker (MCB) of appliances and current flowing out from each of the load. The measured current value will be compared and the maximum allowable difference is 30mA. If the current difference exceeds the maximum limit then the fault MCB will be detected. Hence RCD will be automatically close the circuit after determining the fault location via the motor operation to make sure of power stability and evade any property loss.

Abstract:
The greenhouse is a closed-type agroecological system in which energy processes are strictly determined by the technological process of growing plants, taking into account the influence of the environment. As you know, greenhouse models are divided into two types: white box models and black box models. The well-known model of the “Soil-Plant-Atmosphere” system belongs to the first type, built on the physical principles of thermo-, hydro- and gas dynamics. They consist of several complex differential equations that use numerous coefficients and parameters that are known in advance. Such models are cumbersome and require large computational resources and time-consuming. The proposed model of the system “Plant-Environment-Situation-Management” is a practical analogue of the well-known model “Soil-Plant-Atmosphere”. The main difference of this model is that it refers to a black box model, which is an approximation of the observed processes and allows you to describe processes based on experimental data. On the basis of the “Plant-Environment-Situation-Management” model, the software and hardware system “Smart Greenhouse” was developed, which is a human-machine system with a rational separation of the functions of preparation (computer) and decision-making (Man). It allows you to control and control the growth and development of the plant during the growing season, taking into account the influence of environmental conditions. The system is implemented and used in the greenhouse of the al-Farabi Kazakh National University.

Madrasah Aliyah Negeri (MAN) Banyuwangi using a worksheet which can lead to error occurrences and slow decision making. A system for decision support that can improve the ranking process and quality were developed in this paper. The proposed system implemented the codeigniter framework, MySQL database, and PHP programming language. The system provided three user roles which are teacher, student, and administrator role. These four parameters are used as ranking system input, including academic values, non-academic values, violation scores, and student attendance. The ranking process was conducted by applying the analytic hierarchy process (AHP) method. The developed decision support system was tested using two ways: the black box testing method and providing questionnaires. Black box testing result shows that the system has functionally worked, while user’s questionnaire gives 92,29% well accepted by users. The results show that the decision support system can help manage values and determine the parallel ranking list.

Abstract:
Regional Head Elections (Pilkada) on 2020 have a positive effect on the implementation of a constitution and at least democracy for measuring political participation, the elections that were held after reform started from a Regional Head who was elected by the Regional People’s Representative Council (DPRD), then elected directly by the community (one man one vote). The direct election then became a simultaneous election in all parts of Indonesia. Until the latest development, namely the presence of a single candidate. The Single Candidate then implies the Empty Box as a companion because there are no candidates or no eligible candidates. This consequence must be accepted due to the Direct-Simultaneous Election system with the threshold record regulations as full of regional head nominations. This gave birth to various interests of political elites and party elites playing in it so that party elites inevitably intervened to whom the letter of recommendation would be given, or consolidation at the elite political level had agreed on a political dowry which then gave birth to a single candidate. This research uses qualitative methods with comprehensive analysis through data collected from the General Election Commission (KPU) and previous research. This paper examines the main factors that gave birth to a single candidate and the political elite’s role in compiling the party’s recommendation letter. The hypothesis that can be seen from the phenomenon of fighting empty boxes is the political dowry factor and the party cadre system’s ineffectiveness in producing leader candidates.

Abstract:
Abstract Shortage of breeding sites is an important limiting factor of bird populations. Artificial breeding platforms, nest-boxes or man-made twig nests often present solutions with remarkable results, however long-term sustainability of these populations remains to be resolved. Furthermore, the question whether the inference of results of studies conducted on birds breeding in artificial breeding sites can be generalized to other populations, still remains open. Here we present the history, and the results of a 20 year old (1995-2015) nest-box programme initiated to increase potential breeding possibilities of Red-footed Falcons in an area, where nest-site shortage was a severe limiting factor. We show how various other species (Jackdaws, Kestrels and Long-eared Owls) have utilized these resources, and present descriptive statistics on their reproductive performance. Analysing the data of a total of 1432 breeding attempts, we show that Red-footed Falcons have similar clutch sizes, and nesting success (i.e. ratio of nests with at least on fledgling), however fledging success (ratio of the number of eggs/fledged nestlings) was different in artificial nest-boxes. When we excluded closed box types from artificial nests, this difference was not apparent. In case of Kestrels (n=1626 breeding attempts) clutch size was significantly higher in artificial nests, while we found no difference in fledging or nesting success. When only comparing open boxes to natural nests, the difference in clutch size was no longer significant. We also analysed the effect of nest box design on reproductive parameters of the two species using regression trees. Inter annual effects were the most important in shaping clutch size and fledging rate of both falcon species, however we also found nest-box design effects, but only in Red-footed Falcons. In years when mean clutch size was high, these birds had lower clutch size in an older, darker nest-box type compared to an alternative design, and to open boxes. However, fledging rate in the same years was lower for both open boxes and older nest-boxes. We conclude that artificial colonies are an important and successful tool in Red-footed Falcon conservation, and that the breeding parameters measured in artificial colonies depend on nest-box design. We present correlative evidence that closed boxes have a significant positive species specific effect on reproduction, probably due to their protection against weather. We also show that birds may have a preference for a certain nest-box design, and that the breeding success in the less favoured box type may be similar to that in open nests. We recommend that future studies incorporate nest-type and nest-box design effects in all comparisons made on reproductive performance in case of Red-footed Falcons and Kestrels.

Abstract:
George Box was a British industrial and academic statistician who made seminal contributions to theory and practice in the areas of quality control, time-series analysis, the design of experiments, and Bayesian inference, and was the recipient of many awards and honours. He left school at the age of 16 years and, following his early interest in chemistry, found employment as the assistant to the chemist who managed the local sewage treatment plant. While working at the plant, he enrolled for a chemistry degree course with the University of London's External System, but soon after the outbreak of World War II he joined the army and ceased working on the degree. While in the army he was tasked with conducting biochemical experiments relating to the effects of mustard gas but came to realize that the real expertise required was that of a statistician rather than a chemist. After the war he enrolled at University College London and obtained a BSc in mathematics and statistics. From 1948 to 1956 he was employed as an industrial statistician at Imperial Chemical Industries (ICI). While at ICI he took a year's leave of absence in 1953 to serve as a visiting professor at the North Carolina State University at Raleigh. He then returned to ICI but in 1956 accepted a post at Princeton University as director of the university's Statistical Techniques Research Group. In 1959 he left Princeton for the University of Wisconsin–Madison, where in 1960 he founded the University of Wisconsin's Department of Statistics, retiring as an emeritus professor in 1991. He was a man of great personal humour and warmth who cared deeply about his colleagues and was much loved in return by his many students and collaborators.

This paper presents the results of a mathematical modeling (computer simulation) effort that applied frame-based, data processing constructs, originally developed and applied in the context of artificial intelligence, to the decomposition of a complex Air Force bomber mission. The model was written in LISP to facilitate the development of a concurrent processing environment in which to simulate the simultaneous occurrence of multiple external events/crew tasks. The model simulated a four hour segment of a strategic mission scenario. Two distinct crew complements, four-man and two-man, together with their respective levels of aircraft avionics automation, were represented during a proof-of-concept demonstration. The model provided measures of resource (crew and “black box”) utilization, presumed to correlate to “workload,” at different levels of specificity. These measures were used to identify crew task “chokepoints” (large queue sizes, task interrupts) and to evaluate the effects of automation.

Abstract:
We report the immediate improvement of weakened muscles after combined treatment with transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) and peripheral electrical stimulation (PES) in a patient with acute central cord syndrome (CCS) who presented with severe upper limb motor dysfunction. A 70-year-old man sustained CCS with severe motor deficits in the left upper limb, which did not improve with conventional training until 6 days after injury. On the seventh day after the injury, the left upper limb was targeted with combined tDCS (1 mA for 20 minutes/day, anode on the right, cathode on the left) and PES (deltoid and wrist extensors, 20 minutes/day at the motor threshold), and his performance score immediately improved from 0 to 6 on the Box and Block test. After four sessions, the left upper limb function improved to 32 on the Box and Block test, and manual muscle test scores of the stimulated deltoid and wrist extensors improved from 1 to 2. This improvement of the left upper limb led to improved self-care activities such as eating and changing clothes. Exercise combined with tDCS and PES may be a novel treatment for upper limb movement deficits after acute CCS.

Abstract:
A small box of animal bones, forwarded by Charles Darwin from North Wales, led to excavations by William Boyd Dawkins in Denbighshire between 1869 and 1872 and in Flintshire in 1886. Neglected riches of the archival record allow glimpses of Darwin and his family and contribute to this first narrative account of a pioneering episode in prehistoric archaeology which resulted in the three most important discoveries of Neolithic human remains in North Wales (and their later apparently near total disappearance). Many of the leg bones had features of the flattening of tibia (platycnemia) and femur (platymeria) first noted by George Busk in Neolithic bones from Gibraltar in 1863, and by Paul Broca at Cro-Magnon in 1868. Within a few years flattened leg bones were recognised across the globe, subsequently in samples extending back to the Middle Palaeolithic and forward to modern hunter-gatherers; platymeric shafts have been found at early hominin sites. Busk's platycnemic index and understanding of flattening as related to muscular activity anticipate the work of modern bioarchaeologists. Dawkins was recipient of a much quoted account of the Huxley-Wilberforce confrontation at Oxford and opponent of Darwin's views on human origins: his work opens up instructive perspectives.

Abstract. Geological disaster by liquefaction-fluidization happened on southern part of the Quaternary Paleo-Kanto submarine basin at the 2011 Earthquake off the Pacific Coast of Tohoku. Liquefaction-fluidization phenomena occurred mainly in man-made strata over shaking 5+ intensity of Japan Meteorological Agency scale. Many subsided spots, 10–50 m width, 20–100 m length and less than 1 m depth, by liquefaction-fluidization distributed on reclaimed land around northern Tokyo bay. Large amount of sand and groundwater spouted out in the terrible subsided parts. But there are little subsidence and no jetted sand outside the terrible subsided part. Liquefaction-fluidization damaged part at the 1987 earthquake east off Chiba prefecture re-liquefied and fluidized in these parts at the 2011 great earthquake. The damaged area were more wide on the 2011 earthquake than the 1987 quake. Detailed classification maps of subsidence by liquefaction-fluidization on the 2011 grate earthquake were made by fieldwork in Chiba city around Tokyo bay. A mechanism of subsidence by liquefaction-fluidization in man-made strata was solved by geological survey with continuous large box cores on the ACE Liner and large relief peals of the cores at a typical subsided part.

Abstract:
Introduction: the article is devoted to the study of religious ideas and events of one of the periods of the Mansi people’s life, which is designated by Sheshkin as nāy sānyt jis ‘the ancient time of fire [stored] in a box’. The article presents information about the family and public fire storage, construction of the box, the use of fire in different situations, its keepers. Ideas about fire are considered from the point of view of its personification (Fire-Mother, Fire-Woman); embodiment (it is alive, can talk, visit, revenge); mythologization (deity, special spirit of fire voytyl); object of veneration (holy mothers, dedication, sanctuaries). Folklore plots reflecting the ideas about «living» fire are revealed. Objective: to reconstruct the events and ideas of the northern Mansi group about fire in the era nāy sānyt jis. Research materials: handwritten texts of P. E. Sheshkin, published materials of the XIX–XXI centuries. Results and novelty of the research: the analysis reveals historical information on the way of life and organization of the Mansi during the period «the time when the Mansi kept fire in the nāy sānyt ‘box of fire’». The features of storing and using of family and collective fire are analyzed. The awareness of fire as a value is transmitted in the ideas of its supernatural essence, in the veneration of the Fire-Mother. The past fire, lost by people, is perceived as a super-fire (more powerful in brightness and heat, it lives together with a man and takes care of him). The attitude to fire as a shrine is reflected in the prohibitions, the dedication of it to animals (cat, frog), the construction of temples (sanctuaries). The novelty lies in the introduction into scientific circulation of the traditional ideas of the Mansi about the early stage of their ethnic history
