Abstract:
In their vulnerability to arbitrary, exploitative uses of human power, many of Earth’s nonhuman parts are subject to environmental domination. People too are subject to environmental domination in ways that include but also extend beyond the special environmental burdens borne by those who are poor and marginalized. Despite the substantial inequalities that exist among us as human beings, we are all captured and exploited by the eco-damaging collective practices that constitute modern life for everyone today. Understanding the complex, interacting dynamics of environmental domination can orient us to a more liberatory approach to our environmental problems and to one another, both human and nonhuman. To make good on this potential, however, we need to move beyond existing conceptions of domination. This essay reconstructs the concept of domination to illuminate the multiple ways that the human domination of nature interacts with the domination of people, and it identifies changes that could support more emancipatory forms of political order, a politics of non-domination for people and the Earth.

Abstract:
Normative reflection on the ethics of migration has tended to remain at the level of abstract principle with limited attention to the practice of immigration administration and enforcement. This paper explores the implications of this practice for an ethics of immigration with particular attention to the problem of bureaucratic domination. I contend that migration administration and enforcement cannot overcome bureaucratic domination because of the inherent vulnerability of migrant populations and the transnational enforcement of border controls by multiple public and private actors. The implication is that even if restrictive immigration policies are permissible in principle, the attempt to enforce them leads to injustices that make them ethically unacceptable in practice.

Abstract:
While the debates on prostitution usually focus on the different legislative approaches or the so-called choices of persons in prostitution, this article wants to give light to an invisible aspect of the system of prostitution: its impact on youth. Through research, data and facts, we want to show that it is urgent to listen to young women’s voices as they are detrimentally affected by an industry based on violence, domination and inequality. Based on a study conducted on young people in the South of France, at the borders with Spanish prostitution clubs, outcomes and analysis clearly demonstrate that prostitution is not only a form of male violence against women, it is also a system and an industry that contribute to gender inequality, to an unequal and negative representation of sexuality for young people, and to reduced choices in sexuality. Its impacts are far more detrimental than we can see, because they are invisible and entrenched in mentalities. Today, young people, and especially young women, are directly targeted by the system of prostitution. Rape culture, economic conditions, migration paths and sexual violence in the childhood are part of the root causes which explain the highest vulnerability of youth to the sex industry. Youth has become a strong commercial value for the sex industry and for the men buying sex; the sex industry does not discriminate on age and uses the existing laws tolerating pimping and prostitution to continue to flourish. The article points out that despite the politically correct trend which supports a neo-liberal approach to prostitution, young people are taking a stance against the sex industry and are strongly supporting the Nordic model approach; this raises an important question—Are we ready to listen to them?

Abstract:
This article discusses the role dominance female gender in the public domain compared to male. So far, gender relations always place female in subordinate conditions and in one condition, male dominate. Minimal gender relations are assessed from the opposite condition. Male is subordinated and female dominate, where male is more vulnerable than female. The purpose of this article is to analyze the vulnerability of male in the labor family in the state's response to female labor protection policies. The research method used is a mixed method, an approach that combines quantitative methods with survey and qualitative approaches with in-depth interviews. The results of this study indicate new gender relations in the family of workers. Female workers become the main breadwinner, gain trust in financial institutions, and develop economic networks through the plasma industry by empowering the surrounding community and accessibility to work. Meanwhile, male is in vulnerable positions with limited employment opportunities, lower income, and feel ashamed of domestic roles. Besides, state response in public policy is less favorable to male in employment; countries in responding to the implications of the emergence of new gender relations still assume female domination in the domestic sphere. In view of this, the local government of Purbalingga Regency should do the following; a) develop family care policies by assuming new female gender roles that are more dominant in the public sphere. b) Build awareness of the advancement of female as a positive thing in realizing a harmonious family by the role of new males who have high gender awareness.

Abstract:
Aim: to disclose the perception of nurses working in family planning regarding the vulnerability to sexually transmitted infections (STI) of women who participated in this activity. Method: this is a descriptive and qualitative study that was carried out in a university hospital in Rio de Janeiro, involving nine nurses. Thematic content analysis was used. Results: nurses perceive women as vulnerable as a result of gender inequalities, manifested by their sole responsibility for protection against STIs and contraceptive measures, lack of partner follow-up, and blame of women for unwanted pregnancies. Male domination was attributed to the fact that man wanted to determine the type of protection and/or contraception that would be used in sexual intercourse. In addition, they expressed the difficulty of these women to negotiate safe sex, especially in stable relationships. Conclusion: ISTs are still considered "diseases of the other", influenced by gender inequalities. Traditional family planning actions are not sufficient for the use of preventive measures.

Abstract:
We present an integrated information system needed to address the climate-water-migration-conflict nexus in the Congo Basin. It is based on a rigorous and multidisciplinary methodological approach that consists of designing appropriate tools for field surveys and data collection campaigns, data analysis, creating a statistical database and creating a web interface with the aim to make this information system publicly available for users and stakeholders. The information system developed is a structured and organized set of quantitative and qualitative data on the climate-water-migration-conflict nexus and gender, consisting of primary data collected during field surveys. It contains 250 aggregated variables or 575 disaggregated variables, all grouped into 15 thematic areas, including identification; socio-demographic characteristics; access to resources; perception of climate change; perception of migration; financial inclusion (savings, access to credit and circulation of money); domination and control on water resources, land ownership and property rights, conflict resolution and community resilience; water uses; vulnerability to climate change; housing, household assets and household expenditure; food security; health, hygiene and sanitation; environmental risk management; women’s economic autonomy; and water transfer from the Congo Basin to Lake Chad. The information system can be used to model and understand the interface of human-environment interactions, and develop scenarios necessary to address the challenges of climate change and resilient development, while supporting key policy areas and strategies to foster effective stakeholder participation to ensure management and governance of climate and natural resources in the Congo Basin.

Abstract:
LetG=(V(G),E(G))be an undirected simple connected graph. A network is usually represented by an undirected simple graph where vertices represent processors and edges represent links between processors. Finding the vulnerability values of communication networks modeled by graphs is important for network designers. The vulnerability value of a communication network shows the resistance of the network after the disruption of some centers or connection lines until a communication breakdown. The domination number and its variations are the most important vulnerability parameters for network vulnerability. Some variations of domination numbers are the 2-domination number, the bondage number, the reinforcement number, the average lower domination number, the average lower 2-domination number, and so forth. In this paper, we study the vulnerability of cycles and related graphs, namely, fans,k-pyramids, andn-gon books, via domination parameters. Then, exact solutions of the domination parameters are obtained for the above-mentioned graphs.

Abstract:
The stability of a communication network has a great importance in network design. There are several vulnerability measures used to determine the resistance of network to the disruption in this sense. Domination theory provides a model to measure the vulnerability of a graph network. A new vulnerability measure of domination integrity was introduced by Sundareswaran in his Ph.D. thesis (Parameters of vulnerability in graphs (2010)) and defined as DI(G) = min{|S| + m(G − S):S ∈ V(G)} where m(G − S) denotes the order of a largest component of graph G − S and S is a dominating set of G. The domination integrity of an undirected connected graph is such a measure that works on the whole graph and also the remaining components of graph after any break down. Here we determine the domination integrity of wheel graph W1,n, Ladder graph Ln, Sm,n, Friendship graph Fn, Thorn graph of Pn and Cn which are commonly used graph models in network design.

Abstract:
Several factors have to be taken into account in the design of large interconnection networks. Optimal design is important both to achieve good performance and to reduce the cost of construction and maintenance. Practical communication networks are exposed to failures of network components. Failures between nodes and connections happen and it is desirable that a network is robust in the sense that a limited number of failures does not break down the whole system. Robustness of the network topology is a key aspect in the design of computer networks. A variety of measures have been proposed in the literature to quantify the robustness of networks and a number of graph-theoretic parameters have been used to derive formulas for calculating network reliability. In this paper, we study the vulnerability of interconnection networks to the failure of individual nodes, using a graph-theoretic concept of domination and strong-weak domination numbers of the transformation graph Gxy+ as a measure of network robustness.

Abstract:
Nowadays, transport is the basis for the functioning of national, continental, and global economies. Thus, many governments recognize it as a critical element in ensuring the daily existence of societies in their countries. Those responsible for the proper operation of the transport sector must have the right tools to model, analyze, and optimize its elements. One of the most critical problems is the need to prevent bottlenecks in transport networks. Thus, the main aim of the article was to define the parameters characterizing the transportation network vulnerability and select algorithms to support their search. The parameters proposed are based on characteristics related to domination in graph theory. The domination, edge-domination concepts, and related topics, such as bondage-connected and weighted bondage-connected numbers, were applied as the tools for searching and identifying the bottlenecks in transportation networks. Furthermore, the algorithms for finding the minimal dominating set and minimal (maximal) weighted dominating sets are proposed. This way, the exemplary academic transportation network was analyzed in two cases: stationary and dynamic. Some conclusions are presented. The main one is the fact that the methods given in this article are universal and applicable to both small and large-scale networks. Moreover, the approach can support the dynamic analysis of bottlenecks in transport networks.

Abstract:
This paper presents a case study of women in the academic teaching profession in the context of the Criminal Police Academy, a Belgrade higher education institution of a typically male-dominant type. The aim of the paper is to describe and analyze women's current position and upward career mobility, as well as to discover the causes and mechanisms limiting their weaker (slower) professional recognition. Multiple case method was deployed, on the basis of data collected from various sources: relevant literature on gender inequality of women in the academic profession, official documents of the institution in which the study was conducted, and personal life stories of women research subjects taken through in-depth semi-structured interviews. The results indicate that women who are part of a masculine climate in their academic teaching profession and in their personal life, are arguably in a subordinate position compared to men, and accept their position as quite natural. The research was limited to six typical cases, so that the conclusions may be generalized only with the greatest care; however, researchers who are interested in checking the study's objectivity and validity are provided with the adequate basis for further testing. The research shows that personal perspectives and testimonies of women can contribute to a deeper understanding of their disadvantage in academia, while at the same time contributing to the sociology of the 'individual' and the 'qualitative' by expanding the database on gender issues.

Abstract:
Aim. To evaluate the links between the individual gender ideology, sexual statements, relationship system characteristics and the vulnerability of heterosexual HIV infection. Materials and methods. Behavioral questioning, based on sampling of 239 students (mean age 20 years). Results. Among both young men and women, there was detected a correlation between loyalty to conservative gender ideology and justification of sexual abuse against women as well as characteristics of interpersonal relations, reducing motivation to use of condoms. Conservative gender ideology significantly raises vulnerability of young women against HIV-infection through their justification of sexual abuse and domination of men. Egalitarian gender ideology is essentially connected with the statements, aimed at less risky, as for HIV infection, sexual practice. Conservative gender ideology supports orientation of youth to behavioral models, elevating vulnerability against HIV infection in heterosexual contacts: refusal from use of condoms, resistance to recommendations for decrease of risk. Conclusions. Conservative gender ideology significantly increases vulnerability of young women against HIV infection through their justification of sexual abuse and domination of men. It is useful to include determination of a number of sociopsychological characteristics into the procedure of behavioral studies in the framework of epidemiological supervision of HIV infection, which can indirectly increase vulnerability of youth against HIV infection. There were offered content changes in programs, directed to decrease of risk among youth.

Abstract:
Feminist movements are said to have served their purposes and achieved equality, empowerment, and emancipation for women. America thus enters the era of postfeminism. A redefined image of independent and free-spirited yet feminine women is brought through popular cultural products, creating a shift in the view of 21st century American women, one of which can be seen from their response toward male domination. It is expressed in the lyrics of songs compiled in Lana Del Rey’s Ultraviolence album. This study employs descriptive qualitative method by treating the lyrics with the same approach as poetry. The data are in the form of language features, such as words, phrases, clauses, lines, and verses related to women’s response to male domination. McRobbie’s notion of double entanglement allows this study to borrow the feminist concept of male domination. There are five male dominating conducts found in the lyrics: 1) marginalization in “Sad Girl”; 2) subordination in “Shades of Cool”, 3) stereotype in “The Other Woman”; 4) physical and psychological violence in “Ultraviolence”, sexual violence in “Fucked My Way Up to the Top”; 5) domestic workload in “Old Money”. Meanwhile, the women’s response toward male domination is expressed in “Brooklyn Baby”. The progressive postfeminists approach male domination differently from the conservative feminists. The female speaker of the lyrics comprehend that her men’s conducts are dominating her, yet she receives them with a manner full of desire. For her, every relationship has the luxury to define their own rules as long as there is a consensual agreement from both parties involved. Keywords: domination; lyrics; postfeminism; postnational; women

Abstract:
This UK study is about perceptions and constructions of male rape among police officers and agency practitioners. This paper seeks to particularly understand and explain the relationship between vulnerability and male sexual victimisation in the UK. It employs gender and sexualities frameworks to elucidate the connection between vulnerability and male rape, offering primary data (N = 70). The data consist of police officers and voluntary agency practitioners. I aim to make sense of male rape discourse through the participants’ voices since they intimately serve male rape victims/offenders on a one-to-one basis. Because of the lack of male rape research specifically looking at this nuanced area that I seek to explore, this paper will attempt to open up a dialogue regarding male rape not only in an academic context but also in a policy and practice context. This paper also offers suggestions for policy and practice to better deal with male rape victims and to tackle gender inequality and injustice both in a social and criminal justice context. Ultimately, I argue that male rape is often mistakenly considered as a ‘homosexual issue’, so gay and bisexual men who have been raped are regarded as unmasculine or, in other words, not ‘real’ men. Myths and misconceptions of male rape have serious implications for the way societies, the criminal justice system and the voluntary sector view and treat these victims.

Abstract:
Characters of animals have been present in the literature since its emergence up to present times. However, at the end of the XIX and the beginning of the XXI century they gained growing interest of literary critics, philosophers, historians, anthropologists, biologists and ecologists that gives scope for studying characters of animals as an interdisciplinary phenomenon. The purpose of the present paper is to study the position of animals in human culture, society, and the relationship between people and animals. It is worth noting that the contemporary authors tend to abandon the dominant position of a person and reveal one of the modern issues, namely, the vulnerability of all creatures before the cruelty of the world. One of such novels is “Tomorrow the Cats” written by the famous French writer, Bernard Werber. The main idea of the novel is to depict a person through lens of an animal. In his novel, Bernard Werber shows the world through cats’ eyes and predicts the proper evolution of humanity. A new perspective of human-animal interaction is the leveling differences between them. In the novel animals can understand language, read, perceive information, predict, behave like a person having a purpose to make friends with people. Bernard Werber points to the rights and protection of animals of humiliations they have been experiencing throughout human history. Contemporary human being has to understand: neither man should rule over nature, nor nature should rule over man. The writer’s vision of the future relationship between species and the conditional symbiosis of animals for their salvation is examined in the article. Besides, new transformations of human-animal relations are studied in the paper and the reasons for mentioned changes are outlined. After all, against the background of the war, the author depicts the contemporary problem of human interaction with the outside world, in which the threat to all creatures is not only looting, but also a plague of rats seeking domination in the city. For the common salvation of animals they are joining to humans. So the author interprets in such a way the image of animal as species closed to man. Thus, Bernard Werber represents changes in human perception of the animal, characterized by man’s desire to worry about the lives of other species. The author seeks to warn a man describing a number of situations in which a man is cruel to the world around him and to his own species. The writer seeks to warn people of the terrible consequences of their actions in order to protect them. Bernard Werber says that the mission of people on the earth is changing, they should worry not only about their existence, but also about existence of the world around them.

This paper identified the great contribution of Flora Nwapa’s Efuru to ideas of ecological consciousness, and environmental protection, using theory that interlaces ecocriticism cum feminist criticism. The methodology therefore involves the conversation or ideas on the images of women and nature in ‘Efuru’, the association between the oppression of women and exploitation of nature by male chauvinist, thereby enslaving the female and nature in the commercial market value. From an ecofeminist perspective, this paper discovered that Flora Nwapa inculcates her novel with a theme of feminine and natural liberation from domination and violence. Flora Nwapa foresees the establishment of symbiosis, in which there is no male oppression or environment exploitation. Keywords: ecological conscience, male oppression, ecofeminism, domination, interconnectedness

Abstract:
Judicial divorce symbolises women’s resistance to the domination of local interpretations and practices of Muslim family law in Lombok, such as male arbitrary repudiation and polygamy. In this pattern, husbands hold the privilege to terminate marital unions unilaterally and remarry without their wives’ consent. These practices find their grounds in classical-medieval Islamic jurisprudence (fiqh), which is endorsed by the custom of patriarchal society. It is by turning to the court that women attempt to subvert such hegemonic discourses. By examining divorce cases from the religious courts, and looking at their broader socio-religious and cultural contexts, this study attempts to propose an analysis of judicial divorce as a locus of women’s resistance against male domination endorsed by local practices of Islamic law, customary law and state law, and examines an important dimension of contemporary practice of Islamic family law, which reveals patterns of domination and resistance.

Abstract:
This paper explores the historical and ideological meanings of organized sports for the politics of gender relations. After outlining a theory for building a historically grounded understanding of sport, culture, and ideology, the paper argues that organized sports have come to serve as a primary institutional means for bolstering a challenged and faltering ideology of male superiority in the 20th century. Increasing female athleticism represents a genuine quest by women for equality, control of their own bodies, and self-definition, and as such represents a challenge to the ideological basis of male domination. Yet this quest for equality is not without contradictions and ambiguities. The socially constructed meanings surrounding physiological differences between the sexes, the present “male” structure of organized sports, and the media framing of the female athlete all threaten to subvert any counter-hegemonic potential posed by female athletes. In short, the female athlete—and her body—has become a contested ideological terrain.

Abstract In this piece, I contend that the war-trumpet (salpinx) was understood in ancient Greek literature as connected to the divine and invincible. I show how this understanding arose from a focus on the sound of the war-trumpet, accompanied by silence around the physical act of playing it, inasmuch as this act, in the parallel case of the aulos, reveals embodiment and vulnerability. In archaic and classical texts, ranging among Aristophanes, Thucydides, Homer, Aeschylus, Sophocles and Aristotle, we see that the sound of the salpinx is both infallible and capable of connoting the domination of Greek males in several fields: battles, courts of law, and the imagining of human and nonhuman ontology.

Abstract:
Gender advocates have bemoaned the diatribe about women inequality at the neglect of males’ vulnerability in abstract narratives. We propose that achievement of female empowerment will be complimented by empirically exploring men’s vulnerability themes wrapped in “masculinity” with cultural differences. This study documented views on male vulnerability in the Ghanaian environment using mixed-method design with 189 respondents conveniently. Chi square goodness-of-fit test, and thick descriptions were applied to the open-ended questionnaire items. Indeed, 74% of the participants agreed that Ghanaian males were vulnerable with 26% expressing contrary views. With nine overarching themes generated, gender was not a significant factor in categorising male vulnerability (Σ2 (8) = 10.836, p > .05). We concluded that both sexes appear to have shared views on Ghanaian males’ vulnerability issues and recommended for gender advocates to expand the equality discourse to cover males’ vulnerability. Implications for adult education and guidance and counselling practices are indicated.

Abstract:
PurposeThis paper aims to investigate farmers’ vulnerability to climate change and variability in the northern region of Ghana.Design/methodology/approachThe study assessed the vulnerability of male-headed and female-headed farming households to climate change and variability by using the livelihood vulnerability index (LVI) and tested for significant difference in their vulnerability levels by applying independent two-sample-student’st-test based on gender by using a sample of 210 smallholder farming households.FindingsThe results revealed a significant difference in the vulnerability levels of female-headed and male-headed farming households. Female–headed households were more vulnerable to livelihood strategies, socio-demographic profile, social networks, water and food major components of the LVI, whereas male-headed households were more vulnerable to health. The vulnerability indices revealed that female–headed households were more sensitive to the impact of climate change and variability. However, female-headed households have the least adaptive capacities. In all, female-headed farming households are more vulnerable to climate change and variability than male-headed farming households.Research limitations/implicationsThe study recommends that female-headed households should be given priority in both on-going and new intervention projects in climate change and agriculture by empowering them through financial resource support to venture into other income-generating activities. This would enable them to diversify their sources of livelihoods to boost their resilience to climate change and variability.Originality/valueThis is the first study that examined the gender dimension of vulnerability of smallholder farmers in Ghana by using the livelihood vulnerability framework. Female subordination in northern region of Ghana has been profound to warrant a study on gender dimension in relation to climate change and variability, especially as it is a semi-arid region with unpredictable climatic conditions. This research revealed the comparative vulnerability of male- and female-headed households to climate change and variability.

Abstract:
At the Mexico City Olympics, Kenya won eight medals in athletics. This performance enabled this State, whose independence dated back just four years, to display its identity to the eyes of the world. Kenyan athletics, mainly in middle- and long-distance events, continued to assert itself until it dominated the medal ranking in the 2015 World Championships. However, even if it is a vehicle for emancipation and identity-building, Kenyan athletics is also dependent on external influences. Therefore, even though France and Kenya never had colonial links, they have built interdependent relationships in athletics during the post-colonial era. The purpose of this study is to understand the particular postcolonial process around which these relationships were built, in the absence of colonial ties. We have chosen to conduct this study based on the investigation of minutes of the French Athletics Federation (FFA) committees and the journal L’Athlétisme, the official FFA review. We conducted semi-structured interviews with Kenyan and French athletics actors (athletes, managers, race organizers, and federal officials). These data reveal a continuing domination of Kenya, by France, in athletics. This relationship of domination marks a survival of the colonial order. However, Kenyan athletes’ domination, especially in marathons, contributes to the vulnerability of French performances. The singularity of the postcolonial process studied lies as much in the absence of colonial ties between France and Kenya as in the transformation of a relationship of domination specific to the colonial period.

BackgroundExposure to childhood adversity may explain why only a minority of combatants exposed to trauma develop psychological problems.AimsTo examine the association between self-reported childhood vulnerability and later health outcomes in a large randomly selected male military cohort.MethodData are derived from the first stage of a cohort study comparing Iraq veterans and non-deployed UK military personnel. We describe data collected by questionnaire from males in the regular UK armed forces (n=7937).ResultsPre-enlistment vulnerability is associated with being single, of lower rank, having low educational attainment and serving in the Army. Pre-enlistment vulnerability is associated with a variety of negative health outcomes. Two main factors emerge as important predictors of ill health: a ‘family relationships’ factor reflecting the home environment and an ‘externalising behaviour’ factor reflecting behavioural disturbance.ConclusionsPre-enlistment vulnerability is an important individual risk factor for ill health in military men. Awareness of such factors is important in understanding post-combat psychiatric disorder.

Abstract:
The focus of the paper concerns the specific features of characters’ communicative behavior via gender identity. This study deals with two types of correlation and interaction between real and fictional text-creating subjects: the gender identity of the author and the image created in the literary text. The research procedure is based on the discourse analysis. The study proves the influence of psychological and socio-cultural factors on speech organization. Due to the combination of content- and elements of intent-analysis the author’s pragmatic intentions in the communicative process are identified. The main findings of this paper are based on the theoretical basis of gender-specified communicative behavior study and the statistical data analysis. As a result of the research the specific features of gender communicative style are defined. Besides it is claimed, that taboo words differentiate basic features of male and female speech. The further analysis of non-literary vocabulary proves that gender stereotypes in female-written novels determine the choice of language means for the creation of an ideal male and female image: neglect of moral rules (domination of taboo words provoking conflict and rivalry) or compliance of communicative norms (a rare usage of derogatory vocabulary, communication aimed at cooperation and interaction). Gender differentiation of taboo lexicon in male-written novels argues the conventional stereotype of using taboos mainly by men. The research paper represents the differences in male and female speech, connected with the phenomenon of gender stylization. It proves that style imitation of stereotypical features in the opposite-sex speech occurs in two directions: female authors imitate the masculine communicative style of characters by the domination of taboo words, whereas male authors imitate the feminine communicative style by softening expressions of both-sex characters. Thus, in conclusion the study reveals imitating and identifying features of the author’s natural gender identity, such as domination of taboo words like “damn” and “hell” in opposite-sex communication in male-written novels unlike communicative behavior of male and female characters in the novels written by women.

Abstract:
The life cycle of human being completes with the process of aging but we fail to realize this simple arithmetic of life and often consider our elders as a burden for us. They are compelled to compromise with their dignity and integrity and forced to live at the mercy of their own nearest and dearest. When we talk about elderly women their position is more appalling than their male counterpart due to this male chauvinism which tries to regulate every affair of the life of the people. Under the alibi of protection and security of women they are subjected to the violent gender discrimination and compelled to live and lead their life at the fingertips of a male. The women in especially in third world countries are considered as a tool of procreation of child and all her activities and qualities of life are relegated with the household course. Across the globe the male tendency is to regulate Women’s ownership and control of property, resources created by her own labor, education and information and even her reproductive abilities and sexualities with an intention to jeopardize and throttled down the rights of the women. Women bear this status till her last breath and hence, it is axiomatic that how vulnerable their position is.

Abstract:

Eka Kurniawan's Corat-coret di Toilet short stories compilation book contains twelve short stories that tell about light stories everyday but full of social criticism. Some of the short stories that portrayed female characters presented women who were not free in their lives, one of which was titled Dongeng Sebelum Bercinta and Si Cantik yang Tak Boleh Keluar Malam. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the position of women and their resistance toward patriarchal domination. This is interesting to be studied further by using feminist theory to find the position of women in literary works written by male writers. This research will focus on the actions of female characters which shape their position in the story. The data used in this study are in the form of words, sentences or expressions from short stories that show the dominance of patriarchy towards women and their efforts to get out of domination. From research using feminist theory it was found that patriarchal domination arises in the closest male characters to female characters such as fathers, male friends and husbands. Women resistance in the story was a form of false resistance which in turn strengthened the dominance of patriarchy and the dichotomy between men and women. This was found based on the fact that every resistance made by women turned to weaken women themselves.
