Abstract:
The conservation benefits of animals in captivity are limited to education and genetic preservation. However, where species or sub-species are critically endangered, the release of captive bred animals into the wild can be used as a strategy to supplement existing populations or to form new founder populations. Cheetahs Acinonyx jubatus born in captivity have no prior experience of survival in wild circumstances. Captive bred cheetahs are currently the greatest source of individuals. This project worked in conjunction with IUCN reintroduction guidelines and pre-existing recommendations in an attempt to develop an ideal methodology of reintroducing captive bred cheetah into the wild. Three captive bred cheetahs, one female and two males, were reintroduced onto Makulu Makete Wildlife Reserve, a predator proofed reserve in the Limpopo province of South Africa, as part of an experimental rehabilitation project. The cheetahs had to lose their homing instinct, be habituated to researchers, become accustomed to eating venison, chewing skin, infrequent large meals and strength development within the three months spent in the enclosures. The cheetahs were habituated to the field researchers on foot and to research vehicles for ease of monitoring. A soft release methodology was used to ease the cheetahs into the environment. Upon release they were tracked twice daily to observe behavior and interaction with their environment. The duration of the project was 20 months which includes enclosure time. The establishment of a home range indicated that the resource need of the cheetahs was satisfied. Eight habitat types were identified in the study area and all cheetahs encompassed part of each in their home range. Though the hunting instinct was present in all the cheetahs, the appropriate hunting techniques and prey selection had to be learned overtime. There was no difference between what was stalked and what was caught. From the observed kills, prey weight ranged from small <40 kg to medium <160 kg. This weight range is comparable to wild cheetahs that select prey within the same range. Each cheetah hunted every four to five days and consumed three to five kilograms of meat per day. Nine prey species were identified, two of which were not detected during direct observations. In the collection of scat, the trained dog found approximately a scat per hour while each direct observation by the researchers took approximately 10 hours. These captive bred cheetahs had to learn how to hunt and how to select appropriate prey thus addressing learned behavior versus instinct. Given the frequency and intensity of injuries sustained and the extensive human influence in the form of veterinary treatment, the reintroduction was not a success. However the techniques developed and modified are relevant for future endeavors‟.

Resumo: Esta tese enfoca um dos cem aldeamentos indígenas Makuxi brasileiros, a Maloca da Raposa, e tem como objetivo descrever e discutir a construção de identidades na sua relação com a língua Makuxi. O foco central de análise é a escola, mas outras fatias da comunidade, como igrejas e associação de artesanato feminino, também são consideradas: assim como a sociedade circundante próxima, Boa Vista, a capital do estado de Roraima.Os registros foram coletados dentro da perspectiva etnográfica (Erickson, 1989), a partir da elaboração de diários de campo, gravações de aulas em áudio e entrevistas. A análise os transformou em dados queforam entrecruzados, visando suas confirmações ou contestações.Inicialmente, é apresentada a história de contato dos Makuxi e a descrição etnográfica da Maloca da Raposa; em seguida, a educação escolar é entendida a partir da análise da construção de projetos educacionais indígenas; o perfil sociolingüísitco da comunidade é traça~o; a aula de língua indígena é caracterizada em termos de abordagem de ensino; e, por fim, as línguas e culturas envolvidas são consideradas no processo de construção de identidades. No decorrer da análise, alguns conceitos básicos são discutidos, como: bilingüismo, educação bilíngüe, diglossia, conflito lingüístico, atitude, identidade e cultura. O ponto central da tese é a discussão do que é "falar" para os Makuxi da Raposa. Como expectativa, este trabalho almeja provocar o aprofundamento das questões pontuadas, buscando preencher uma lacuna existente em termos de diagnósticos precisos, que sirvam de base teórico-práticas para viabilizar planejamentos educacionais coerentes com a realidade e os anseios das minorias lingüísticas, neste caso, os Makuxi da Raposa
Abstract: This thesis is focused one of hundred Brailian Indian Makuxi villages, Maloca da Raposa, and is aimed to describe and argue the construction of identities in its relation with Makuxi language. The main focus of analysis is the school, but other parts of the community, as churches and female hancraft association, are also taken into count; as well as the near surrounding society, Boa Vista, the capital of the state of Roraima. The registers were collected according to the ethnographic perspective (Erickson, 1989), from the elaboration of field word, audio recordings of classes and interviews. The analysis was transformed into data which were intercrossed, aiming at confirmations or debates. Initially, it is presented the contact history of Makuxi and the ethnographic description of Maloca da Raposa; then, the school education is understood from the analysis of the construction of indigenous educational projects; the community sociolinguistic profile is traced: the indigenous language lesson is cahacterised in terms of education approach; and, finally, the languages and cultures involved are -considered in the process of construction of identities. Along the analysis, some basic concepts are argued as: bilingualism, bilingual education, diglossia, linguistic conflict, attitude, identity and culture. The main concern of the thesis is to discuss what "to speak" to Makuxi from Raposa is. As expectation, this work longs for examining thoroughly the climed issues, to search for filling na existing gap in terms of precise backgrounds, which may be used as theoretical-practical base to make coherent educational plans feasible, with reality and yearnings of the linguistics minorities, in this case, the Makuxi from Raposa

Abstract:
The Maketu Estuary is a shallow intertidal estuary (2.3 km2) located in the Bay of Plenty, North Island, New Zealand. The Kaituna River contributes the largest freshwater flow into the estuary through control gates. Lake Rotoiti and indirectly Lake Rotorua supply the base flow to the Kaituna River, with tributaries along the 50 km reach also significantly contributing to the flow. Water quality within the river is affected by elevated nutrients, faecal coliforms, high oxygen demand and algae concentrations derived from the lakes as well as contributions from tributaries and industrial and urban discharge. Through the use of a coupled hydrodynamic-biogeochemical numerical model ELCOM-CAEDYM, this study aims to examine the nutrient, phytoplankton and hydrodynamics of the Maketu Estuary and lower Kaituna River. Water quality and hydrodynamic measurements were sourced from Environment Bay of Plenty's data archives as well as a number of instrument deployments to collect water velocity, tidal elevation and salinity and temperature measurements during the course of this study. Included in the field work was a survey of the lower river and estuary bathymetry. Model simulations predicted that the maximum residence time in the Maketu Estuary is 1.5 days, occurring in the inner western region. Residence time in the lower river (mouth to 8.5 km upstream) is in the order of hours although some variations were predicted near the river mouth. Growth rates of four phytoplankton groups where assessed over a 15 day period in January 2004. In the Kaituna River ELCOM-CAEDYM predicted that the community growth rates were small with the exception of a slight increase in biomass of the two freshwater groups in a semi-detached river bend. The increase in the loop was correlated with an increase of residence time. In the estuary, marine diatoms showed the highest growth rates in the western region which is expected to relate to retention time and available nutrients. Dinoflagellates showed the smallest variation in predicted growth rates, most likely due to their broad salinity tolerance. The two freshwater species showed a reduction in abundance when mixed with marine water. A principle limiting factor to phytoplankton growth in both the river and estuary is the low residence time. A number of scenarios were simulated in the river and estuary by altering the forcing conditions in the model. A simulation of the increased nutrient load associated with the Rotoiti diversion wall revealed that phytoplankton growth in the river and estuary will not be significantly affected. Because of the close proximity of the control gates to the river mouth, a proportion of water drawn through the structure can be marine. By opening the old river channel, model simulations predicted that a reduction in salinity would be possible, however the outcome of complete freshwater is probably not achievable. Increasing the discharge volume from the river into the estuary was also simulated. The results indicated that increasing the freshwater inflow at Fords Cut would reduce the salinity in the estuary while increasing the net (residual) flow towards the estuary mouth. Increasing the flow would also result in a greater range of salinity in regions of the estuary. Changing the inflow location to the historic Papahikahawai Channel also affected the salinity in the estuary. The most significant effect of an inflow at this location was a reduction of the residual currents in the western region of the estuary.

Esta tese visa estabelecer os fundamentos da teoria makuna do mundo, e nesse sentido, delineia os princípios epistemológicos dos Makuna ou Ide masã (Gente de Água), um grupo tukano oriental da Amazônia colombiana. Analisando os conceitos he (jurupari) e ketioka (“Pensamento”), ambos conceitos centrais dentro desta epistemologia, identificam-se os principais elementos ou componentes que conformam tanto aos seres não humanos quanto aos seres humanos, demonstrando a importância dos lugares, ou melhor, de uma geografia xamânica, na constituição de todos os seres do universo. Ao tempo que esta argumentação serve para reformular conceitualmente as unidades sociais dos grupos indígenas desta região, também evidencia que as noções de espaço e pessoa são interdependentes e podem ser trabalhadas em conjunto para atingir níveis de compreensão mais profundos de algumas sociedades indígenas da Amazônia. _______________________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACT
This thesis aims to set up the foundations of Makuna world theory, and in this way, outlines the epistemological principles of Makuna or Ide masã (Water People), a eastern tukanoan group from Colombian Amazon. Analyzing the concepts he (jurupari) and ketioka ("Thought"), both core concepts within this epistemology, it is possible to identify the main elements or components that conform both human beings as not humans, demonstrating the importance of places, or better , of a shamanic geography, to the constitution of all beings in the universe. At the same time this argument serves to conceptually redefining the social units of the indigenous groups in this region, also shows that the notions of space and person are interdependent and can be worked together to achieve deeper levels of understanding of some Amazonian indigenous societies.

Abstract:
Cilj ovog istraživanja je bio da se utvrdi da li postoji razlika u debljini makule kod pacijenata sa glaukomom otvorenog ugla (POAG) u odnosu na zdravu populaciju i u zavisnosti od stepena progresije bolesti, kao i da se utvrdi da li postoji povezanost između promene debljine makule i stepena oštećenja vidnog polja i debljine peripapilarnog sloja nervnih vlakana u zavisnosti od stepena progresije bolesti. Materijal i metode: U ovu kliničku prospektivnu studiju je uključeno 186 pacijenata. Na osnovu kliničkog nalaza formirane su tri grupe. Prva grupa (kontrolna – grupa zdravih): 68 pacijenata bez očnih oboljenja, sa najboljom korigovanom vidnom oštrinom ≥ 0.9, intraokularnim pritiskom (IOP) ≤ 21 mmHg, normalnim odnosom ekskavacije i površine glave vidnog živca i normalnim nalazom vidnog polja. Druga grupa (rani glaukom): 78 pacijenata sa klinički dijagnostikovanim primarnim glaukomom otvorenog ugla (sa karakterističnim oštećenjem glave vidnog živca i sloja nervnih vlakana retine i kod kojih je srednja vrednost devijacije standardne automatske perimetrije MD > -6 dB, prema Hodap klasifikaciji), bez drugih očnih ili sistemskih oboljenja, koja bi imala uticaj na nastanak glaukoma i sa najboljom korigovanom vidnom oštrinom ≥ 0.5. Treća grupa (glaukom srednjeg stepena): 40 pacijenata sa klinički dijagnostikovanim primarnim glaukomom otvorenog ugla (sa karakterističnim oštećenjem glave vidnog živca i sloja nervnih vlakana retine i kod kojih je srednja vrednost devijacije standardne automatske perimetrije -6 dB > MD > -12 dB, prema Hodap klasifikaciji), bez drugih očnih ili sistemskih oboljenja, koja bi imala uticaj na nastanak glaukoma i sa najboljom korigovanom vidnom oštrinom ≥ 0.5. Svim pacijentima je bio urađen kompletan oftalmološki pregled, kompjuterizovano vidno polje (Humphrey Field Analyzer, Carl Zeiss Meditec, Jena, Germany, SITA Standard, test C 24-2) i optička koherentna tomografija sloja nervnih vlakana peripapilarno i u predelu makule (SOCT Copernicus HR, Optopol Tech. SA, Zawiercie, Poland). Rezultati: Perifovea i parafovea, pokazuju statistički značajno smanjenje debljine i zapremine sloja nervnih vlakana u odnosu na stepen progresije glaukoma otvorenog ugla, pri čemu je ono naglašenije u perifovei (p<0,05). U svim segmentima makule (TPeriF, IPeriF, SPeriF, NPeriF, TParaF, SParaF, IParaF i NParaF) dolazi do smanjenja debljine i zapremine sloja nervnih vlakana sa progresijom bolesti (p<0,05). Segmenti makule TPeriF, IPeriF, a potom i SPeriF, prema navedenom redosledu, predstavljaju segmente sa najvećim potencijalom za predikciju ranih glaukomskih oštećenja s obzirom na uočeno najveće smanjenje debljine i zapremine nervnih vlakana (p<0,05). Segmenti makule SParaF i NParaF predstavljaju segmente sa najvećim potencijalom za predikciju napredovanja glaukomskih oštećenja srednjeg stepena s obzirom na uočeno najveće smanjenje debljine i zapremine nervnih vlakana (p<0,05). Debljina RNFL glave vidnog živca se statistički značajno smanjuje sa progresijom bolesti u svim posmatranim segmentima (p<0,05). Međusobni odnos između grupe zdravih i grupe pacijenata sa ranim glaukomom ukazuje da je statistički značajno smanjenje debljine RNFL prisutno u svim segmentima osim u segmentima P3 i P4 (p>0,05). Merenja debljine RNFL u segmentu P6 imaju najbolji potencijal za predikciju ranog glaukoma s obzirom na najizraženije smanjenje debljine nervnih vlakana upravo u ovom segmentu (p<0,05). Merenja debljine RNFL u segmentu P1 ima najbolji potencijal za predikciju dalje progresije bolesti. Debljina sloja nervnih vlakana makule srazmerna je smanjenju debljine RNFL na glavi vidnog živca, pri čemu je ona uočljivija na nivou segmenata koji su okarakterisani kao dobri prediktori za nastanak, odnosno progresiju bolesti (P6 sa IPeriF i TPeriF, odnosno P1 sa SPeriF), što dodatno naglašava njihovu važnost u dijagnostici glaukoma otvorenog ugla. Debljina makule kod pacijenata sa glaukomom otvorenog ugla je opisana umerenom do dobrom povezanošću sa stepenom oštećenja vidnog polja, pri čemu je ona najjača kod TPeriF, IPeriF i SPeriF segmenata i srazmerna je stepenu oštećenja vidnog polja. Koeficijenti korelacije između vrednosti srednje devijacije vidnog polja i debljine RNFL, odnosno  sloja nervnih vlakana makule, pokazuju snažniju povezanost u odnosu na parametre dobijenog smanjenja debljine nervnih vlakana u makuli, što otvara mogućnost za dalja istraživanja. Segmenti glave vidnog živca i makule, koji su pokazali najbolju diskriminaciju u smislu predikcije nastanka POAGa, kao i oni koji sugerišu na njegovu progresiju, smešteni su na lokacijama koje su međusobno povezane opisanim prirodnim tokom nervnih vlakana.  Zaključak: Optička koherentna tomografija makule je važna pomoćna metoda u dijagnostici glaukoma kojom je moguće izdvojiti pacijente sa ranim glaukomom u odnosu na zdravu populaciju, odnosno utvrditi progresiju glaukoma otvorenog ugla.
All patients underwent complete ophthalmologic examination, SAP (Humphrey Field Analyzer, Carl Zeiss Meditec, Jena, Germany, SITA Standard, test C 24-2) and optical coherent tomography scans of RNFL and macula (SOCT Copernicus HR, Optopol Tech. SA, Zawiercie, Poland). Results: Perifoveal and parafoveal nerve fiber layer have shown significant reduction of thickness and volume compared to stage of POAG progression, where perifovea showed higher significance (p<0,05). All macular segments (TPeriF, IPeriF, SPeriF, NPeriF, TParaF, SParaF, IParaF i NParaF) showed reduction in thickness and volume compared to disease progression (p<0,05). Macular segments TPeriF, IPeriF, as well as SPeriF, represent segments with highest potential to predict early glaucomatous damage according to the most significant reduction of nerve fiber layer thickness and volume (p<0,05). Macular segments SParaF and NParaF represent segments with highest potential to predict progression of POAG according to the most significant reduction of nerve fiber layer thickness and volume (p<0,05). Optic nerve head (ONH) RNFL thickness showed reduction compared to POAG progression in all segments (p<0,05). All ONH segments except P3 and P4 showed significant reduction of RNFL comparing control group to early glaucoma group patients (p>0,05). ONH segment P6 was found to be the highly specific for early glaucoma prediction according to the most significant reduction of RNFL thickness (p<0,05), while segment P1 was found to have highest potential for POAG progression. Macular nerve fiber layer thickness reduction follows ONH RNFL thickness reduction and there is mutual relation between both macular and ONH segments (P6 to IPeriF and TPeriF, P1 to SPeriF) with highest specificity for early defects and POAG progression. It was shown that macular thickness changes have moderate to good correlation with visual filed changes and it was highest in TPeriF, IPeriF and SPeriF segments. This correlation was found to be higher in macula then in ONH RNFL thickness changes, compared to visual field changes. Both macular and ONH RNFL segments, which were found to have highest specificity to POAG prediction and progression, are located in areas which mutually connect following natural course of nerve fiber layer between them. Conclusion: Optical coherence tomography of macula represents important ancillary method in POAG diagnosis and follow up, allowing to differentiate between early glaucoma patients and healthy individuals, as well as to determine progression of glaucomatous disease.

This work is a reflection on the cultural transformations in the community Raposa I, during the 50’s of the twentieth century to the present. The importance of this work is given by the relevance of a specific study on this location under the theme School, Language and Cultural Identity in the Makuxi Indigenous Community Raposa I. The concern in developing this research in the village of Raposa I got from my youth as a resident. During this period I began to realize that the traditional culture of that locality was in continuous transformation. The Community Raposa guard the secrets of Makuxi ancestors’ life, whose even if they studied did not reach most of this process. In this study, we look first for five residents (most old people) about life before the establishment of the school. Then we consulted six teachers born in the community who were students in the first three decades after entering the school, from 1950 to 1970, and finally, with five elementary school students and five high school in order to understand their expectations as a student. We used their voices as an expression representative of the transformations and identities and as a methodological approach, the interview and added to these, the principles of literature. The results indicate that the school has contributed to the culture of non-Indians were accepted resulting in the transformation or renewal of the cultural population of the Raposa I.
Este trabalho é uma reflexão sobre as transformações culturais ocorridas na comunidade Raposa I, no período dos anos 50 do século XX, até os dias atuais (século XXI). A importância deste se dá pela relevância de um estudo específico sobre esta localidade no âmbito do tema Escola, Língua e Identidade Cultural na comunidade makuxi Raposa I. A preocupação em desenvolver esta pesquisa na maloca da Raposa I começou desde a minha juventude enquanto morador. Nesse período comecei a perceber que a cultura tradicional daquela localidade estava em contínua transformação. A comunidade Raposa guarda segredos da vida dos Makuxi dos antepassados os quais ainda não são estudados e que precisam ser escritos e documentados não se alcançaria a maior parte desse processo. Nesse estudo, atentamos, primeiramente, para cinco moradores (os mais velhos) sobre a vida antes da implantação da escola. Em seguida também foram entrevistados seis professores nascidos na comunidade, os quais foram alunos nas três primeiras décadas após a inserção da escola, de 1950 a 1970 e, por fim, com os cinco alunos do Ensino Fundamental e cinco do Ensino Médio com intuito de entender suas expectativas como aluno. Para tanto, utilizamos as vozes dos sujeitos como expressão representativa das transformações e identidades e como recurso metodológico, as entrevistas e acrescido a estas, os princípios da pesquisa bibliográfica. Os resultados apontam que a escola tem contribuído para que a cultura dos não índios fosse aceita resultando na transformação ou renovação cultural da população da comunidade Raposa I.

Syftet med denna studie har varit att beskriva, analysera och diskutera tre barnböcker som är vanligt förekommande i den förskola som ingår i studien. Utifrån ett intersektionellt perspektiv undersöks och tolkas hur makt konstrueras genom att samverka mellan olika identitetskategorier som kön, ålder, klass, etnicitet och funktionsnedsättning i den valda barnlitteraturen. Detta har även gjorts för att se ifall makt tillskrivs en mångfald av karaktärer, eller ifall makt tillskrivs karaktärer som följer stereotypa könsmönster. Sedan har textanalysen analyserats utifrån ett utvecklingspsykologiskt perspektiv, för att se vilken inverkan den valda barnlitteraturen kan ha på förskolebarns könssocialisation och identitetsskapande. Studien visar att makt tillskrivs karaktärer som både följer och utmanar stereotypa könsmönster i dessa barnböcker. I en av barnböckerna tillskrevs makt även identitetskategorierna manligt kön och ålder, i en kvinnligt kön och någon form av funktionsnedsättning, och i en verkade makt inte tillskrivas några av identitetskategorierna kön, ålder, klass, etnicitet eller funktionsnedsättning. För att en mångfald av karaktärer ska tillskrivas makt saknas dock även en varierad framställning av etnicitet och klass. En mångfald av karaktärer som tillskrivs makt i barnlitteratur är viktigt eftersom studien även visar att förskolebarns könssocialisation och identitetsskapande kan påverkas av de normer och attityder som framställs i barnlitteratur.

Abstract:
The power of the meeting is a qualitative study primarily examining how homeless men and women and social workers experience the meeting between them. The homeless are the more vulnerable part in these meetings so their experience of these meetings is my focus in this study. I have in this paper also examined and analyzed how and whether homeless women and men tends to be treated and ad-dressed differently with basis on their gender. The main results I have found is that the homeless but also social welfare officers actually feel that there is com-municative problems when the parts meet and cooperates which often results in conflicts and lack of trust. I have chosen to highlight a number of factors that have been claimed as the main reasons for the experience of a poor meeting. These factors are the lack of interpersonal encounters, lack of information and also the lack of resources to help and support. I have been able to demonstrate that a difference exists between the social workers treatment and attitude towards homeless men and women based on their gender; women are more prone to be treated as victims, while men are considered sturdier and more self-reliable.

Den här undersökningen belyser hur makt kan manifesteras i bild. Den utgår från maktteorier, främst postmodern maktanalys enligt Michel Foucault och hans uttolkare. Semiotisk bildanalys används för att belysa maktmanifestationer i ett bildmaterial som huvudsakligen utgörs av fotografier tagna av författaren. Resultatet presenteras i en gestaltning där bilderna visas tillsammans med en analys av varje bild. Tekniker såsom perspektivval, bildutsnitt och efterbehandling, för att förändra en bilds konnotation, demonstreras. Olika maktperspektiv och makttekniker urskiljs och särskilt fokus läggs på mindre uppenbara maktyttringar och dolda maktuttryck, t.ex. osynliggörande, obstruktion, belöning och övervakning. Här konstateras att uttryck för makt inte är absoluta och odiskutabla utan att konnotationen är beroende av betraktarens kultursfär, tidigare erfarenheter och kunskap. En diskussion förs om uttolkningen av de maktteoretiska och semiotiska begreppen och hur vida definitionerna kan vara för att analysen ska vara användbar och meningsfull.
This study illustrates how power can be manifested in the image. It is based on theories of power, mainly postmodern power analysis according to Michel Foucault and his interpreters. Semiotic analysis is used to illustrate the manifestations of power in the visual material that mainly consists of photographs taken by the author. The results are presented in a display where the images are shown along with an analysis of each image. Techniques such as perspective, composition and finish, in order to change the connotation of an image, are being demonstrated. Different perspectives of power and power techniques are distinguished and a special focus is put on the less obvious manifestations of power and the hidden expressions of power, for example inattention, obstruction, reward and monitoring. It is found that expressions of power are not absolute and indisputable and that the connotation depends on the viewer's culture sphere, previous experience and knowledge. A discussion is being held about the interpretation of the power theoretical and semiotic concepts and how wide the definitions can be for the analysis to be useful and meaningful.

Religioners symbolsystem kan, utifrån ett sociologiskt och antropologiskt perspektiv, uppfattas som grund för hur människor skapar och upprätthåller kultur och social ordning. Inom gudinnetron riktas som oftast kritik mot de monoteistiska religionerna så som kristendom, judendom och islam. Man menar att dessa religioners etik, mytologi och symbolik tolkas och reproduceras utifrån en androcentrisk norm som främst gynnar exploatering av kvinnor, barn och jorden själv. Makt är ett nyckelbegrepp i dessa sammanhang. Mitt syfte är att förstå hur gudinnetrons symboliska system skapar förståelse av begreppet makt. Min huvudfråga är: Hur ser gudinnetrons förståelse av begreppet makt ut?

Jag har funnit att gudinnetroendes förståelse av makt kan härledas till upplevelsen och förståelsen av den immanenta Gudinnan. Gudinnan är livskraften och livscykeln som människor och natur är sammanlänkade i och därav lever i gemenskap inom. Detta leder till en maktförståelse där makt främst ses som människans förmåga att utifrån den immanenta livskraften handla i världen för helhetens bästa.

Att använda sin makt för att dominera över andra är därmed inte ett uttryck för makt som har sin grund i upplevelsen av den immanenta Gudinnan utan istället ett uttryck för "makt över".

Bakgrund: Förändringar kan ses som ett naturligt inslag i dagens samhälle. Vi argumenterar för att organisationer verkar i en föränderlig miljö och studerar vilka effekter en extern alternativt intern påverkan får på en organisation i förändring.

Syfte: Syftet med studien är att identifiera kritiska moment som har varit avgörande för organisationers förändringsarbete samt bidra med ytterligare kunskap om förändringsprocesser genom att studera det kritiska momentet och dess effekter ur ett Foucaultianskt maktperspektiv.

Genomförande: Empirisk data har samlats in genom intervjuer genomförda på Posten, Utrikesdepartementet och Systembolaget

Resultat: Organisationen stannar upp och reflekterar gällande det framtida förändringsarbetet i samband med ett kritiskt moment. Kritiska momentet ger en dynamik som medför mindre förändringar än vad som ursprungligen planerats. Effekterna av det kritiska momentet styrs av det nät av maktrelationer som finns i organisationen. Det kritiska momentet skapar nya strategier som i sin tur förändrar maktrelationerna. Det nät av maktrelationer som existerar i organisationen expanderar, i form av kunskap, i och med det kritiska momentet.


Background: Changes are natural in the society. We argue that organizations of today practice in a turbulent environment that changes every day. Furthermore we are studying which effects a internal or external effect will have on a organization in change.

Purpose: The purpose with the thesis are to identify critical moments that has been important for companies that goes through organizational changes. We also contribute with knowledge around the process of change through the study of the critical moment from an Foucaultian perspective.

Research method: An empirical study has been performed based on interviews with employees at Posten, Utrikesdepartementet and Systembolaget.

Results: Organizations freeze and reflects regarding the coming process of change when they reach a critical moment. Critical moments brings a dynamic that leads to less changes then originally planned. The effects of the critical moment is controlled by the net of power relations that exists in the organization. The critical moment creates new strategies that changes the power relations. The power relations net that exists in the organization expands through knowledge with the critical moment.

Studiens syfte var att undersöka om några gymnasieelever utvecklas i sitt skrivande i en genrepedagogiskt inspirerad undervisning. Eleverna vars texter analyserades studerade på det samhällsvetenskapliga programmet på en gymnasieskola belägen i Mellansverige. Studien var longitudinell och metoden som användes var innehålls­analys som bestod av både en kvalitativ strukturanalys och en kvantitativ stilanalys. Strukturanalysen analyserade texternas helhet och med hjälp av den kunde olika språkliga variabler synliggöras för vidare stilanalys. Det insamlade materialet bestod av fyra gymnasieelevers texter skrivna under vårterminen 2014 och höstterminen 2014. Undersökningen gick ut på att undersöka vad som utvecklades och vilka språkliga skillnader som kunde utläsas i dessa fyra gymnasieelevers texter. Resultatet visade att av de fyra elever vars texter analyserades utvecklade deras skrivande. Anledningen till skrivutveckling kan dock inte fastslås helt men skrivutvecklingen skedde när en genrepedagogiskt inspirerad undervisning användes.

This dissertation explores the reception history of Makura no sōshi (The Pillow Book, 11th c.) from the seventeenth through the nineteenth centuries. Focusing on an extensive body of texts, including scholarly commentaries, erotic parodies, and instruction manuals for women, I examine how Makura no sōshi and the image of its female author Sei Shōnagon were transformed through shifts in political contexts, readerships, and socio-cultural conditions. The complex reception history of The Pillow Book, in which the text was recreated through diverse forms, serves as a useful case study of how literary criticism, gender structures, and the status of women have changed through time. Drawing from research on the invention of national literatures and the historical reception of Japanese “classical” works, this study reveals the processes and agents that contributed to the shifting place of Makura no sōshi within Japanese literature. By so doing, it sheds light on the extent to which misrepresentations of Heian texts and their authors have influenced approaches in literary scholarship and shaped contemporary images of the Heian period as a whole. The Introduction analyzes the context in which Makura no sōshi was produced and considers theoretical approaches to the reception of literary works, particularly the processes of evaluation, interpretation, adaptation, and canonization. Chapter One traces scholarly debates regarding the textual identity and the genre of the work as recorded in scholarly commentaries and works of literary criticism. Chapter Two takes up the popularization of the Heian text among male readers and considers its transformation into a highly eroticized work. An examination of illustrated adaptations of Makura no sōshi for a female readership follows in Chapter Three, which shows how the work was used as a manual for social mobility gained through marriage. Chapter Four turns to constructions of Sei Shōnagon in instruction manuals for women and examines the use of the image of the author as an efficient tool for gender training both in Edo (1603-1868) and Meiji (1868-1912) Japan. The Conclusion summarizes aspects of Makura no sōshi that defy categorization and make it a dynamic text.

La propuesta de la investigación fue estudiar el uso de la radio en el proceso de educación indígena por medio de un estudio de caso. Por ser una herramienta de los medios de comunicación de masas, que presta grandes servicios a la sociedad a través de información y entretenimiento; El radio se ha transformado a lo largo de su existencia; Con El avanzo de la tecnología, en los días actuales la instalación así como la recepción de ondas de radio se ha tornado disponibles en todo el mundo. Con la aparición de otros medios de comunicación como la televisión y la Internet, la radio no perdió su principal característica: la capacidad de ser inmediata, por involucrar poca participación de los equipos y recursos humanos, que no requieren la uso de muchos servicios en la divulgación de los acontecimientos. Pensando en estas y otras ventajas, averiguamos la influencia de este medio de comunicación en la lengua makuxi. Em el año 2003 la Diócesis de Roraima adquirió la concesión de radio FM. Con La inauguración de la estación, los pueblos indígenas de Roraima ganarón por La primera vez espacio para producir y transmitir un programa que trae lecciones que enseñan del idioma materno. El programa de radio tiene la la finalidad de ofrecer a los indígenas, la oportunidad para revitalizar la el idioma y enseñar a sus hijos. Por lo tanto, proponemos a verificar de que forma el programa "Vamos a aprender Makuxi" esta posibilitando la reactivación de los valores étnicos y la ciudadanía indígena de la etnia makuxi. Además de saber de que forma la comunicación de la radio se percibe y como repercutí en el proceso educativo de la enseñanza del idioma makuxi. A proposta da presente pesquisa foi estudar o uso do rádio no processo de educação indígena, através de um estudo de caso. Por ser um dos meios de comunicação de massa, que presta grandes serviços à sociedade através da informação e do entretenimento, o rádio tem se transformado ao longo de sua existência. Com o avanço tecnológico, nos dias atuais, a instalação e a recepção das ondas de rádio se tornaram acessíveis em todo o mundo. Ainda com o surgimento de outros meios de comunicação, como a Televisão e a Internet, o rádio não perdeu a sua característica principal: a capacidade de ser imediato na divulgação dos acontecimentos, sem a necessidade de envolver muitos equipamentos e recursos humanos. Pensando nestas e em outras vantagens, averiguamos a influência desse meio de comunicação na aprendizagem da língua Makuxi. No ano de 2003, a Diocese de Roraima adquiriu a concessão de uma Rádio Fm. Com a inauguração da emissora, os Povos Indígenas de Roraima ganharam espaço pela primeira vez para produzir e transmitir um programa que traz lições que ensinam a língua materna. O programa radiofônico tem a finalidade de oferecer aos indígenas oportunidade de revitalizar a língua e de ensiná-la aos seus filhos. Portanto, nos propomos a verificar de que forma o Programa "Vamos Aprender Makuxi" está possibilitando a revitalização dos valores étnicos e de cidadania dos indígenas da etnia Makuxi, além de saber de que forma a comunicação radiofônica é percebida e como repercute no processo educacional da língua materna Makuxi. Malmö universitet: Fakulteten för hälsa och samhälle, institutionen för socialt arbete, maj 2018.Uppsatsen är en kvalitativ studie som huvudsakligen handlar om socialsekreterares upplevelser i mötet med klienter när det uppstår konflikter angående ekonomiskt bistånd i socialtjänsten. Studiens fokus ligger på hur socialsekreterare upplever och hanterar dessa konflikter med klienterna. Vilka tillvägagångssätt tillämpas för att övervinna dessa konfliktsituationer och hur upplever socialsekreterare att dessa konflikter påverkar deras arbetssätt? I studien intervjuades fem socialsekreterare som jobbar med ekonomiskt bistånd inom socialtjänsten. Mötet mellan socialsekreterare och klient har en dynamisk karaktär där socialsekreteraren har makt och klienten har ingen makt. Makten är osynlig när parterna är överens med varandra, dock blir makten synlig då parterna är oense om saker och ting. De viktigaste resultaten som kommit fram i uppsatsen är att regler och lagar delvis kan vara orsaker till att det ger upphov till konflikter, exempelvis när det gäller riksnormen. En annan orsak att det uppkommer konflikter är när socialsekreterarna är stressade, har brist på tid eller har för många klienter att de inte hinner ta hand om dessa och att utföra sina arbetsuppgifter på rätt sätt. En tredje orsak till konflikter är när klienterna avviker från planeringen och socialsekreteraren begär ett läkarintyg, vilket klienterna saknar.

The focus of the study is on how social secretaries experience and handle these conflicts with clients. What approaches are being taken to overcome these conflict situations and how do social secretaries feel that these conflicts affect their way of working? For the study, five social secretaries were interviewed who work with financial assistance in social services. The meeting between a social secretary and a client has a dynamic character in which the social secretary has power and the client has no power. The power is invisible as long as the parties are in agreement. However, power becomes relevant when the parties disagree with things. The most important findings made in the paper are that rules and laws may in part be the cause of conflicts, such as the national norm. Another reason for conflicts is that the social secretaries are stressed, have lack of time or have too many clients that they cannot handle clients, which leads to conflicts because the social secretaries are unable to perform their duties properly. A third cause of conflicts is when clients deviate from the planning and the social secretary requests medical certificates, which the clients cannot provide.

Access to land is crucial for combating discrimination. Women who are denied such access tend to be disadvantaged, a pattern that results in economic powerlessness. Tanzana is among the most undeveloped nations in the world, where gender inequalities with respect to accessing land are central problems. This study consequently aims at investigating women's access to land through customary land tenure in the Makete district in Tanzania. A case study strategy was adopted to address the research problem, whereby interviews, focus group discussions and documentary reviews were the main data collection methods. The findings indicate that the majority of women within villages are illiterate; unaware of any existing entitlements and lacking insufficient assets to fight for their rights, and that their involvement in land administration institutions is limited. At the familiy level, daughters and women are deprived of any right to possess land through inheritance because relatives believe they will be married to other families from which they will then gain access to land. This generally has been proven not to be the case. After marriage, women commonly are apportioned land strictly for crop cultivation (usufruct rights). Consequently, there are many challenges in realising women's property rights in Tanzania. These challenges include the dualisim of the property rights system: customary tenure operates alongside statutory tenure; inadequate knowledge about women's property rights by both women and men; negative attitudes towards women's influence, position, capability and reputation; outdated customs; archaic and conflicting interests in laws; and lack of legal capacity (empowerment) as to property rights. The most important tools for meeting these challenges include education and awareness campaigns that are designed to build the capacity of citizens as to the necessity of equity in access to property rights (land) using various legal tools at varying levels. Other measures include amending and repealing outdated laws, including provisons dicriminating against women's property rights and contradicting constitutional provisons and other international instruments. Other avenues are advocacy and working for behavioural chages can also be invoked by empowering individuals at all stages of life, supporting their involvement in productive activities and creating group networks, and facilitating the formation of community-based organisations as well as building capacity by mainstreaming land adminstration institutions.

Sammanlagt har åtta aktiva mellanstadielärare intervjuats om lärarens egen uppfattning om sin makt i klassrummet, synen på den disciplinära makten som äger rum i klassrummet, vilken betydelse relationen lärare och elev har för att frambringa handling samt vilka effekter på gruppen lärare kan se utifrån sitt ledarskap. Den halvstrukturerade samtalsintervjun har använts som metod. Studiens resultat har belyst ur ett maktperspektiv med utgångspunkt i Michel Foucaults teorier om makt och disciplinering. Vilket innebär att makt är resultatet av att utöva kontroll över en annan individs handlingar under förutsättning att den underordnade godkänner den överordnades intentioner. Vidare är makt något som finns runt oss hela tiden i alla sociala relationer mellan människor och utövas i en ständig växelverkan mellan makt och motstånd. I studien framkommer vikten av relationen mellan lärare och elev för att läraren ska få eleverna att följa denne och inordna sig dess intentioner. Resultatet av studien visar att lärarna är medvetna om sin makt i klassrummet men att de i olika grad vill benämna det som makt. Istället beskrivs makten i termer som inflytande och möjlighet att påverka innehåll. Lärarna anser sig ha rätten att disciplinera eleverna både med hjälp av belöning och bestraffning för att uppnå den norm som råder i klassrummet. Vidare framkommer att för att få eleverna att följa läraren som ledare krävs att läraren har byggt upp en trygghet i klassrummet som består av bland annat tydlighet, struktur och elevinflytande.

L'Archipel des Comores composé de quatre îles : Grande-Comore, Anjouan, Mohéli et Mayotte dont le premier peuplement remonte au premier millénaire avant Jésus Christ, a connu l'esclavage avant la traite et la colonisation française qui commence. Les fonctions principales de l'esclavage dans ce petit pays au bout du monde sont agricoles et domestiques. Mais contrairement aux autres pays, c'est la rareté des documents écrits et le silence absolu des habitants qui prédominent face à ce phénomène. L'esclavage va connaître une croissance fulgurante avec le phénomène de la traite et l'histoire coloniale. De nombreux Mozambicains sont déversés dans les îles : les uns pour répondre aux besoins des bras dans l'économie agricole coloniale basée sur la culture des produits de rente ; les autres pour partir par la suite dans d'autres pays, et plus particulièrement l'île de La Réunion. Les Africains d'origine mozambicaine sont connus aux Comores sous le nom de Makua. Après un survol rapide de d'histoire générale de l'esclavage aux Comores, la thèse se penche spécifiquement sur la traite de Makua pendant une période précise d'un siècle : 1870 à 1970. L'analyse aborde successivement les aspects liés à la route, les perceptions, l'occupation des espaces, l'intégration et l'apport de Makua. The Comoro Archepelago is composed of four Islands: Great Comoro, Anjouan, Moheli and Mayotte, whose first population, goes back to the first century BC, has known slavery before the slave trade and the beginning of French Colonization. The main functions of slavery in this little country at the end of world are mainly agricultural and domestic work. But contrary to the others countries, written documents are scarce and an absolute silence of the inhabitants prevail in front of this phenomenon. Slavery was going to have a steady growth with this phenomenon of the slave trade and colonial history. A lot of Mozambicans are brought to the islands: some to respond to the need of labor in the agricultural colonial economy based on the culture of commercial products; others to be sent to other countries, and more particularly to la Reunion Island. The Africans originated from Mozambique are known in the Comoros under the name of wamakua (from makua). After a quick glance of the general history of slavery in the Comoros, the thesis focuses specially on the makua slave trade in a specific period of a century: from 1870 to 1970. The analysis deals successively on the different aspects linked to the route, the perceptions, the occupation of space, integration and the makua contribution. The official abolition of slavery was differently appreciated with regard to the present image of the country the remains of which of this painful history are always visible until the birth of what is commonly known as Modern slavery

Resumo:Objetivouverificarse a adoção de boas práticas agropecuárias constitui-se em uma boa ferramenta para a identificação dos animais com mastite bovina, e conscientizar o produtor dos assentamentos rurais sobre a importância da implementação das boas práticas agropecuárias relacionadas ao bem-estar. Os produtores receberam orientação e foram distribuídos materiais educativos e utensílios elaborados a partir de material reciclável para a realização das boas práticas de bem-estar. Para avaliação do perfil fisiológico foram coletadas amostras biológicas como: sangue, fezes e leite, e para a avaliação da sanidade e do bem-estar animal foram utilizados um questionário. Foram avaliadas 20 vacas perfazendo um total de 79 quartos mamários. Dos 36 quartos negativos para o California Mastitis Test em 12 desses foram isolados bactérias, sendo o de maior ocorrência Staphylococcus. Foi verificado que o bem-estar animal estava comprometido pela incidência de mastite subclínica, infestação de ectoparasitos e ausência de medidas profiláticas. Conclui-se que o emprego de boas práticas agropecuárias é adequado para a identificação da mastite bovina, no entanto, há falta de conhecimento em relação às boas práticas, principalmente, relacionadas ao manejo preventivo e a conscientização dos produtores sobre a importância da implementação das boas práticas agropecuárias na atividade leiteira, as quais são fundamentais para melhorar as condições de bem-estar animal, a produtividade e qualidade do leite

Malaria is a deadly disease transmitted by the female Anopheles mosquito in many tropical and subtropical regions. This disease kills more 500 000 people annually, yet these deaths can be prevented if malaria is diagnosed timeously and treated effectively. Despite many initiatives to fight this disease, the incidence of malaria remains high in the Mutale Municipality in the Limpopo Province where the majority of malaria cases have been diagnosed over the past decade. This study aimed to explore the current status of health education for the prevention and control of malaria in primary schools in the Ha-Makuya Village, Vhembe District in the Mutale Municipality. The possible existence of educational strategies in place to promote malaria awareness in schools was investigated. It was assumed that strategies such as collaboration between the Departments of Health and Education on health education, and policy provision on the topic could lead to children learning about malaria prevention and control, and in turn, inform their parents, leading to the broader community practicing preventive measures, leading to the reduction and eventual elimination of malaria in endemic areas. A qualitative research approach was employed in this study, informed by the interprevist paradigm, using a case study. Data was collected through interviews with relevant stakeholders in this matter, such as principals, teachers, nurses and a district official, in order to gain an understanding of their views on and perception of this disease, and to gauge their knowledge on practices to promote malaria awareness through health education. Existing policies were also analysed to examine possible content on this matter. It was found that even though some of the stakeholders’ knowledge on malaria-related issues was lacking, their attitude towards prevention strategies was positive. It was further found that, even though some effort was being made to work together, collaboration between the stakeholders was at best tenuous. Policy was also found to be lacking on provisions for the successful implementation of health education programmes for the prevention and control of malaria in schools. Recommendations to address these issues were made to the Departments of Health and Education, principals, teachers, policy-makers, as well as for further study.

Abstract:
The Old Testament verbal expression of ‘the exile of Judah’ during the Babylonian exile has led to the perception that the land of Judah was emptied of all Judeans. This biblical expression is not necessarily contradictory to historical facts, but theologically and quality-orientated in nature. The exile of the elite from Jerusalem to Babylon, the execution of some of them and the flight of others to Egypt and other neighbouring states disrupted Jerusalem and rendered the city dysfunctional in every national sphere. The royal and religious services, which were based in Jerusalem, the capital city, were discontinued. The emptiness of Judah was signalled by the emptiness as regards the royal and religious authority wrought on Jerusalem by Babylon. Without their royalty, cult, trade, military and judiciary, Judah was indeed emptied and exiled. However, not all Judeans were exiled, for a remnant remained. There is almost no significant record of revelations by God in Judah during the exile, especially after compatriots that opted to flee to Egypt had forcefully taken Jeremiah with them. In addition to its land being emptied during the exile, Judah lost some of its land. The Judean identity in Judah disintegrated due to the influx of foreigners into the land and their subsequent influence on the remaining Judeans. Those that remained in Judah were unable to establish an exclusive Judean community and identity effectively; in any case, not before the Babylonian exiles returned early in the time of the Persian Empire. The paucity of information about the lifestyle in Judah during the exile attests to the veracity and rectitude of the theological concepts of the exile of Judah from 605 to 539 BCE.

Abstract:

The work of Japanese contemporary artist Aida Makoto (1965-) has been shown internationally in major art institutions, yet there is little English-language art historical scholarship on him. While a contemporary of internationally-acclaimed Japanese artists Murakami Takashi and Nara Yoshitomo, Aida has neither gained their level of international recognition or respect. To date, Aida?s work has been consistently labeled as otaku or subcultural art, and this label fosters exotic and juvenile notions about the artist?s heavy engagement with Japanese animation, film and manga (Japanese comic book) culture. In addition to this critical devaluation, Aida?s explicit and deliberately shocking compositions seemingly serve to further disqualify him from scholarly consideration. This thesis will argue that Aida Makoto is instead a serious and socially responsible artist. Aida graduated with a Masters of Fine Arts from Tokyo University of Fine Arts and Music in 1991 and came of age as an artist in the late 1980s during the start of Japan?s economic recession. Since then Aida has tirelessly created artwork embodying an ever-changing contemporary Japanese identity. Much of his twenty-three-year oeuvre explores the culturally significant social sign of the shojo or pre-pubescent Japanese schoolgirl. This thesis will discuss these compositions as Aida?s deliberate and exacting social critiques of Japan?s first and second ?lost decades,? which began in 1991 and continue into the present.

Resumo: A presente tese é uma nova abordagem da fonologia da língua Makuxi (Karib), falada por uma população indígena de cerca de dezoito mil pessoas no estado brasileiro de Roraima e na Guiana. A busca de uma análise mais profunda, para além dos marcos da Fonêmica, inspira-se na tradição fonológica do Círculo Lingüístico de Praga e apóia-se no modelo representacional da Geometria de Traços. Disso resultam as ¿inter-relações das teorias fonológicas¿, pela correspondência que traça entre conceitos adotados nas teorias fonológicas clássica e auto-segmental (geometria de traços). Na busca de uma explicação para o fenômeno existente na língua Makuxi, que até então era interpretado como um vozeamento que atinge os segmentos obstruintes após vogal longa, segmento nasal ou glotal, estabelecemos uma correspondência entre os conceitos 'lenis/fortis¿, da fonologia clássica, ao que constitui o traço SV (Vozeamento Espontâneo), do modelo auto-segmental. Em nossa análise, o traço SV mostra-se essencial para aclarar o que entendemos como um processo de lenição. Consideramos fundamental a participação deste traço na geometria dos arquifonemas soantes oral // e nasal /N/, de maneira a sobrepor a interpretação de lenição à de vozeamento das consoantes em foco. As observações e o raciocínio que nos fizeram descartar a idéia de um processo de vozeamento nos levaram a reconhecer a existência fonológica de uma consoante / caracterizada pelos traços [+aprox] e [SV] ¿ distinta da obstruinte glotal marcada pelos traços [-aprox] e [-voz] (laríngeo) ¿ cuja presença é revelada justamente pela lenição das consoantes 'fortis¿ /p, t, k, s/ que passam a 'lenis¿ [b, d, g, z]
Abstract: The present thesis is a new approach of the Makuxi (Karib) language phonology, spoken by an Indian population of about eighteen thousand people in the Brazilian state of Roraima and in the neighbor territory of Guyana. Searching for a deeper analysis, beyond Phonemics, this study is inspired in the phonological tradition of the School of Prague and adopts the representational model of the Features Geometry. The result is the ¿inter-relations of the phonological theories¿, by the correspondence that it establishes between the concepts adopted by the classical phonological theories and the auto-segmental model (features geometry). Looking for an explanation for the existing phenomenon in the Makuxi language, which has been interpreted as a voicing implementation (that reaches the obstruent segments after long vowel, nasal or glottal segments), this thesis establishes a correspondence between lenes/fortes concepts of the classical phonology to which constitutes the SV (Spontaneous Voicing) node of the auto-segmental model. In our analysis, SV reveals to be essential to explain what we understand as a lenition process justifying the participation of this feature node in the geometry of the sonorant archi-phonemes oral / and nasal /N/, allowing to change the interpretation of lenition to the one of voicing implementation of the consonants in focus. The reasoning that made us discard the idea of a process of voicing, had led us to recognize the phonological existence of a consonant ?, characterized by the features [+aprox] and [ SV ] ¿ distinct from the glottal obstruent specified by [¿ approx ] and [¿voice] (Laryngeal) ¿ whose presence is disclosed by the lenition of fortes consonants /p, t, k, s/, that become lenes [ b, d, g, z ]

Este à um estudo sobre as apropriaÃÃes do catolicismo na comunidade indÃgena Maturuca, na Terra Raposa Serra do Sol, em Roraima, onde os sujeitos centrais sÃo os Ãndios da mais numerosa etnia do estado, os Makuxi. O objetivo principal à descrever e analisar, numa perspectiva socioantropolÃgica, os usos que esses indÃgenas fazem do catolicismo e como eles ressignificam os ensinamentos cristÃos na fronteira formada pelas aÃÃes evangelizadoras dos missionÃrios do Instituto Consolata e as tradiÃÃes culturais do seu povo. Das caracterÃsticas que reconfiguram as relaÃÃes entre o catolicismo universal e a comunidade indÃgena local, a sintonia construÃda entre o projeto evangelizador e a defesa da Terra Raposa Serra do Sol tanto indica o tipo de catolicismo oferecido na aldeia, marcado pelos princÃpios da Teologia da LibertaÃÃo, como abre um campo de reflexÃo sobre a contextualizaÃÃo da mensagem bÃblica e as tradiÃÃes culturais indÃgenas. Para compreender a dinÃmica desses laÃos em contexto Ãtnico esta pesquisa adotou como procedimentos a realizaÃÃo de entrevistas, anotaÃÃes em caderno de campo e participaÃÃo, tÃo direta quanto possÃvel, nas mais diferentes atividades vivenciadas pelos Makuxi em seu cotidiano, com destaque para as aÃÃes de cunho religioso. Assim, o estudo focou dois conjuntos de prÃticas: a Missa de Natal e a Via Sacra, como ritos institucionalmente oferecidos pela Igreja CatÃlica; a Festa Natalina dos Makuxi e a cerimÃnia denominada Subida da Serra, como ritos marcados, principalmente, pela evocaÃÃo e reelaboraÃÃo das tradiÃÃes indÃgenas. As diferentes maneiras de apropriaÃÃo do catolicismo em terras Makuxi revelam, sobretudo, a complexidade das relaÃÃes situadas na estreiteza das fronteiras culturais, pelo carÃter dinÃmico, combinatÃrio, permeÃvel e imprevisto que caracteriza esses encontros.
This is a study about Roman Catholicism appropriations in Maturuca, an indigenous community at Raposa Serra do Sol Homeland, in Roraima, Brazil, where the central characters are the Makuxi, the most numerous ethnic group of the state. It aims at describing and analyzing, in a socioanthropological perspective, the uses these indigenous make of Roman Catholicism and how they resignify Christian teachings in the border outlined by Consolata Institute Missionaries evangelizing actions and cultural traditions of their people. Among the characteristics that reconfigure the relations between universal Catholicism and the indigenous local community, the harmony built between the evangelizing project and the Raposa Serra do Sol Homeland defense indicates the type of Catholicism offered in the village, marked by Liberation Theology principles, and opens a field for reflection on the contextualization of the Bible message and indigenous cultural traditions. For understanding the dynamics of these ties in an ethnic context, this research adopted interview proceedings, field notes and participation, as direct as possible, in the many activities lived by the Makuxi in their everyday life, especially those with religious connotation. Thus, the study focused on two sets of practices: the Christmas Mass and the Way of the Cross, as institutional rituals offered by the Roman Catholic Church, as well as Makuxi`s Christmas Feast and the ceremony named the Climbing of the Mountain (Subida da Serra), as rites marked mainly by evocation and reelaboration of these indigenous traditions. The many different forms of Roman Catholicism appropriations in the Makuxi community reveal the complexity of relations located on the narrow zones of cultural frontiers, for their dynamic, combinatory, permeable and unexpected nature.

This is a study about Roman Catholicism appropriations in Maturuca, an indigenous community at Raposa Serra do Sol Homeland, in Roraima, Brazil, where the central characters are the Makuxi, the most numerous ethnic group of the state. It aims at describing and analyzing, in a socioanthropological perspective, the uses these indigenous make of Roman Catholicism and how they resignify Christian teachings in the border outlined by Consolata Institute Missionaries evangelizing actions and cultural traditions of their people. Among the characteristics that reconfigure the relations between universal Catholicism and the indigenous local community, the harmony built between the evangelizing project and the Raposa Serra do Sol Homeland defense indicates the type of Catholicism offered in the village, marked by Liberation Theology principles, and opens a field for reflection on the contextualization of the Bible message and indigenous cultural traditions. For understanding the dynamics of these ties in an ethnic context, this research adopted interview proceedings, field notes and participation, as direct as possible, in the many activities lived by the Makuxi in their everyday life, especially those with religious connotation. Thus, the study focused on two sets of practices: the Christmas Mass and the Way of the Cross, as institutional rituals offered by the Roman Catholic Church, as well as Makuxi`s Christmas Feast and the ceremony named the Climbing of the Mountain (Subida da Serra), as rites marked mainly by evocation and reelaboration of these indigenous traditions. The many different forms of Roman Catholicism appropriations in the Makuxi community reveal the complexity of relations located on the narrow zones of cultural frontiers, for their dynamic, combinatory, permeable and unexpected nature.
Este é um estudo sobre as apropriações do catolicismo na comunidade indígena Maturuca, na Terra Raposa Serra do Sol, em Roraima, onde os sujeitos centrais são os índios da mais numerosa etnia do estado, os Makuxi. O objetivo principal é descrever e analisar, numa perspectiva socioantropológica, os usos que esses indígenas fazem do catolicismo e como eles ressignificam os ensinamentos cristãos na fronteira formada pelas ações evangelizadoras dos missionários do Instituto Consolata e as tradições culturais do seu povo. Das características que reconfiguram as relações entre o catolicismo universal e a comunidade indígena local, a sintonia construída entre o projeto evangelizador e a defesa da Terra Raposa Serra do Sol tanto indica o tipo de catolicismo oferecido na aldeia, marcado pelos princípios da Teologia da Libertação, como abre um campo de reflexão sobre a contextualização da mensagem bíblica e as tradições culturais indígenas. Para compreender a dinâmica desses laços em contexto étnico esta pesquisa adotou como procedimentos a realização de entrevistas, anotações em caderno de campo e participação, tão direta quanto possível, nas mais diferentes atividades vivenciadas pelos Makuxi em seu cotidiano, com destaque para as ações de cunho religioso. Assim, o estudo focou dois conjuntos de práticas: a Missa de Natal e a Via Sacra, como ritos institucionalmente oferecidos pela Igreja Católica; a Festa Natalina dos Makuxi e a cerimônia denominada Subida da Serra, como ritos marcados, principalmente, pela evocação e reelaboração das tradições indígenas. As diferentes maneiras de apropriação do catolicismo em terras Makuxi revelam, sobretudo, a complexidade das relações situadas na estreiteza das fronteiras culturais, pelo caráter dinâmico, combinatório, permeável e imprevisto que caracteriza esses encontros.

Abstract:
The main purpose of the culture is to serve people and represent the people's social will and freedom. Culture does not exist in a vacuum but shaped and framed by political and artistic structures that are not neutral, and this is why the artwork itself cannot be an independent business. The public function of art can be understood as a defense of the ideals of democracy. But today, when political power is often replaced by hegemony, the role of art and functions are changing. How these changes reflect to the identity, reality and truth of society? What political functions are fulfilled when art becomes “public”? The issue of democracy is linked question of people’s power in a democratic society where power is legitimized in social space. The idea of the public sphere as a cultural form for crowds is opening the public art for debate. How and by what kind of methods we can investigate the public? To talk about multiple public spaces do not question what a disclosure is, but what public art means. Is it a place for encounters between art and ideas and observations of how the truth and reality are presented in the society? It is not easy to write an essay about the relationship between public art and public power. But in a time of rapid political changes where art often stands in the focus we ought to make an attempt. What is the relationship between art and power in the public sphere actually like today?

Abstract:

How do we work in projects that are expected to bridge cultural, social and historical boundaries? Is it possible to apply stated instructions across these boundaries so that, for example, the task of producing a requirement specification is interpreted in the same way by all the parties involved?

In this thesis, the author takes a stand against his personal experience from such a trans-cultural project – a project in which he failed. A factor that made a strong contribution to this failure was the inability of the companies involved to manage the underlying complex of problems, problems associated with the philosophy of language. They possessed neither the knowledge nor the instruments to bridge the chasms of language. Essential reflection and analysis was replaced by the power language of the enterprise; individuals were singled out and held responsible, and the failure was relegated by definition to the level of personal issues.

Experience does not automatically become knowledge; this is a process that requires reflection.

The author suggests a number of ways of tackling communications problems among people who not only do not understand one another, but do not understand that they do not understand. The latter may mean that two people think that something is unambiguous, yet their interpretations diverge. This is when problems occur. Nobody has made a mistake – both parties have acted properly, they have even (perhaps) talked the matter through and reached agreement, yet the result still does not coincide with what they anticipated.

A central concept is dialogue. Through its organised form, dialogue can make openings in problems that cut through cultural, social and historical boundaries. It is an approach that may be illustrated through authors and philosophers such as Witold Gombrowicz, Ludwik Fleck, Oscar Wilde, Joseph Conrad and Galileo Galilei.

This study has its basis and its origins in the research area of Skills and Technology at the Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm (KTH).

Body and Power in Motion This dissertation is concerned with body and politics, or, more specifi cally body, power and governance. The central question is how specifi c individuals and bodies are constituted in the teaching of Physical Education (PE) in school. Inspired by Foucault’s work and the research fi eld that emanates from the concept of governmentality, one of the ambitions is to develop a method that facilitates the study of power and governance processes in teachers’ and students’ interactive actions and dealings. With the aid of this approach, 15 video-recorded physical education lessons in 5 Swedish nine-year compulsory schools are analysed in order to demonstrate how governance processes are included in the work and activities in terms of how the processes of governance–self-governance are staged, and the direction this takes. In using the term direction I am here referring to the content the governance is aiming towards, where the question of which subjects and bodies are constituted is of substantial interest. This means that the study not only focuses on what is done, but also on the way in which it is done, i.e. it analyses both process and content. The results show that physical exertion and the desire for physical work is a thread that runs though the analysed material. It is mainly scientifi c knowledge about the body that is referred to in actual teaching practice. This is displayed through the use of a scientifi cally inspired language when talking about the body, where effects on muscles and degrees of oxygen intake are considered in connection with the physical activities. In connection with physical exertion, pupils are encouraged to do their best, try the activities on offer, cooperate with others and face challenges. In line with the governmentality perspective’s problematisation of the process governance–self-governance, the study highlights a governance mentality that is not characterised by coercion, but is rather directed towards different components of willingness where the students are expected to be participatory, take responsibility and govern their own actions in the direction of that which is most desirable and reasonable. The willingness component appears as the actual hub of character-building, were the students ought to be physically active, should want to do their best, be willing to try, should want to show solidarity and should want to defeat the others. The process of governance–self-governance is staged as different ways of appealing to one’s willingness in the activities studied. Specifi c governance techniques are used to support and promote self-governance work, i.e. different forms of encouragement strengthen the correct action, emphasising physical exertion as pleasurable and focuses on the fact that we are all involved in a common project. In the dissertation it is shown how the body is included in a socio-political context. Through the body the individual is turned into a participant of physical projects concerned with becoming a certain kind of social citizen. The body thus symbolises the complex encounter between the individual and society. In this way the study demonstrates and highlights tendencies that are evident in modern society. It is thus a narrative that indicates how we all become part of a discourse system.

Typografi finns överallt. Det är en del av grafisk formgivning som är ramverket som vi på olika plattformar i media och i stadsbilden blir tilltalade och därigenom förstår omvärlden. Typografi påverkar i stor utsträckning hur vi tolkar ett innehåll och hur vi värderar allt från människor till åsikter. I mitt examensarbete "Typografisk makt" undersöker jag relationen mellan samhällets värderingar och typografi. Varför tar vi vissa typsnitt på allvar och andra ses som oseriösa? Jag har skrivit en essä och presenterar texten i två publikationer där jag med formgivningen vill kommentera olika sätt att förhålla sig till idéer om hur typografi bör fungera och se ut. I essän tar jag upp historiska aspekter som påverkat hur typografi värderas. Jag försöker även bena ut vilken roll egenskaper kopplade till kön har för roll i hur typografi värderas.
Typography is everywhere. It speaks to us and makes us understand the world. Why do we regard some typefaces as serious/professional and some as less serious? My project is an investigation of the relation between the values of society and typography.

Svärd är vapen. Svärd är också mytomspunna föremål som getts djupa symboliska innebörder och den äldre litteraturen är full av magiska svärd. Från Beowulfs Hrunting, vars vattrade klinga fått färg av giftörters saft, till Rolands Durandal, som Karl den Store fått till skänks av en ängel, till kanske den mest kända sagoklingan, Excalibur, Arthurs svärd. Svärd har genom historien skänkts som gåvor med symbolisk mening, som gåvor utväxlade mellan brudpar i Romarriket till segergåva från England till Sovjetunionen efter Stalingrad. Det har skrivits om svärd, sjungits om svärd, diktats om svärd och svärd har avbildats i skulpturer och på tavlor. Svärd har även använts i svenska kungliga ceremonier. Gustav Vasas rikssvärd spelade en central roll vid både Gustav Vasas begravning och Erik XIV kröning. Varför det var så, vilka budskap detta hade, hur dessa budskap uppfattades och hur detta möjligen kan kopplas till hur adelns roll förändrades genom att centralmakten blev starkare ska jag försöka visa i min uppsats.

In this study, I try to find the reason behind men’s comparatively small involvement in gender politics, relative to women. I suggest that this may be due to gender politics being an area of female power and authority, where men are finding it difficult to make an impact. In interviewing eight young politicians, knowledgable on the subject, I find some support for this claim. According to two interviewees, women are said to wield more influence, than men, primarily over what’s perceived to be women’s issues. According to one, women wield more influence, both over perceived men’s and perceived women’s  issues. I make the claim that these kinds of ideas may influence men’s involvement in gender politics, though more research on the subject is needed.

Denna uppsats behandlar social organisering av vit makt-miljön med avgränsning på den så kallade skinheads-miljön. Uppsatsens syfte är att få en förståelse för hur den sociala organiseringen av miljön har sett ut på 90-talet, med utgångspunkt i teorier om social organisering. Frågeställningen utgår från fem elementet för social organisering. Genom dessa element försöker jag undersöka och förstå varför individer söker sig till våldsbejakande extrema miljöer. Uppsatsen är en kvalitativ studie med den tematiskt öppna intervjun som metod, där fem före detta skinheads kommer till tals. De berättar om sina tidigare liv som skinheads i vit makt-miljön. Resultatet är att miljön organiseras med hjälp av våld utifrån de tre elementen; medlemskap, regler och sanktioner. Våldets funktion är centralt vid inträde, upprätthållande och utträde ur miljön. Individer som haft sin vålddebut innan inträdet i miljön tenderar till att eskalera i sitt våldsanvändande väl inne i den. Studien visar även att radikalisering bör ses som en process och att den inte sker över en natt, eller som ett fenomen helt isolerat från omvärlden. Uppsatsens bidrag till forskningsfältet är att den utifrån teorier om social organisering, bidrar till att försöka belysa de mekanismer och processer som påverkar inträdet, upprätthållandet och utträdet ur våldsbejakande extrema miljöer.

Fotografiet ses av många som ett verktyg för att visa upp verkligheten för vad den är. Inom modefotografin är bilden istället noga utvald och förbestämd för att skapa åtrå och ett begär hos betraktaren. Vad som är intressant är vilken målgrupp bilderna riktar sig åt och på vilket sätt budskapet berättas. Syftet i min uppsats var att undersöka vilka visuella grepp inom modefotografin som skapar maktpositioner och hur dessa används i tidskriften Bon Magazine. Genom en kvalitativ forskningsmetod undersökte jag tre bilder från olika nummer av tidskriften Bon. Dessa bilder analyserades sedan utifrån en semiotisk bildanalys och de visuella greppen. Resultatet visade på att blicken var det grepp som hade störst inverkan på bilden, men att det krävs en kombination av flera visuella grepp för att skapa en tydlig maktposition i en bild. Även kroppens relation till kläder och mode var något som betydde mycket för läsningen av bilden, både genom den klädda och den avklädda kroppen. Till denna studie hör även ett gestaltande arbete där jag skapade en egen serie modefotografer. I dessa bilder undersökte jag de visuella greppen och hur de skapade maktpositioner. Detta skedde genom en experimentell och lekfull process där jag fick reda på hur olika kombinationer av greppen fick olika betydelsen för betraktaren.

Syftet med studien var att undersöka enhetschefernas upplevelser och erfarenheter av rehabsamtal utifrån ett makt- och stödperspektiv. Som referensram valdes Foucaults teorier om pastoralmakt och governmentality samt liberalism inom governmentality. Studien är en kvalitativ intervjustudie med semistrukturerade intervjuer. Population bestod av åtta enhetschefer som jobbade inom två mindre kommuner inom äldreomsorgen och LSS-verksamheter. Resultatet visar flera olika uppfattningar som genererat åtta olika utfallsrum; begränsningar, regelstyrning, ansvar för organisationen, möjligheter, yrkesidentitet, dubbla roller, att känna sig i överordnad position och att vara stödjande. Dessa kan placeras under två mer övergripande domäner: organisatoriska förutsättningar för rehabsamtal, och chefens roll i rehabsamtalet. Studien visar att det finns svårigheter i att hantera den dubbla rollen som enhetschef, eftersom de flesta först och främst vill stödja individen. Enhetscheferna är påverkade av olika sanningar och utsatta för styrning genom lagar och rutiner. Rutin och erfarenhet påverkade hur enhetscheferna agerade under rehabsamtalen.

A second investigation determined whether the opportunity costs of this allocation method could be justified in the context of Zimbabwe's current socio-economic development priorities. The Department of National Parks and Wild Life Management (DNPWLM) is the government agency responsible for the management of Zimbabwe's protected areas and wildlife.
