Abstract:
Identification of River Styles in the Macabu Basin (RJ) to be Applied in Water Resource Management A B S T R A C TThe research was developed in the Macabu Basin that integrates the Lower Paraíba do Sul and Itabapoana Hydrographic Region and, as well as several basin of fluminense hydrographic regions, presents a long history of anthropogenic interventions inside and outside channels. The objective of this present work is bringing forward mapping of the River Styles in the Macabu Basin to be applied in the management of water resources, considering the current dynamics of geomorphological and hydrogeomorphological processes. The mapping and the classification of river segments and their typologies were performed based on the application of morphometric parameters for the evaluation of regional and local controls on the river shape and behavior, valley confinement, river planform, channel length and valley bottom geomorphological units. The results show that the relief compartments allows the occurrence of different fluvial features, exerts regional control in the fluvial system and influences the valley characteristics. Thus, the spatial configuration of the compartments determines the patterns of behavior in each sector. Eight River Styles have been identified whose differentiation allows understanding how processes and forms are characterized, integrated and distributed within the river system. In general, Macabu Basin is a multiple and complex environment with many issues related to its uses and modifications. The results represent part of the inputs needed for efficient and effective management and decision-making.Keywords: Fluvial Geomorphoplogy; River Classification; Morphometric Index; Valley Setting.

Abstract:

Abstract:
The variation in chilling sensitivity of mature-green specialty bananas (Musa paradisiaca var. sapientum) and plantains (Musa paradisiaca var. paradisiaca) was examined using four cultivars of bananas and one plantain cultivar stored under various time and temperature combinations. Cold storage for 1 day at 5.0, 7.2, or 10.0 °C (41, 45, or 50 °F) resulted in acceptable fruit quality for up to 8 days at 20.0 °C (68 °F) for `Petite' and `Red Macabu' bananas and `Dominico Harton' plantains. `Grand Nain' and `Yangambi' bananas were considered unmarketable due to moderate to severe graying after 8 days at 20.0 °C when fruit were previously stored for 1 day at 5.0 or 7.2 °C. Storage for 3 days at 10.0 °C was acceptable for all cultivars tested, however 5 days at 10.0 °C resulted in moderate to severe browning and graying of the `Grand Nain' fruit. The traditional Cavendish-type, `Grand Nain', as well as `Petite' and `Yangambi', required temperatures greater than 10.0 °C for a 7-day storage duration while `Red Macabu' bananas could be safely stored for 7 days at 10.0 °C. Plantains could be stored at 7.2 °C for 7 days without visible chilling injury symptoms. The storage of specialty bananas and plantains at or above their minimum safe temperatures resulted in improved uniformity of ripening and overall quality of the fruit due to a decrease in chilling injury symptoms.

Abstract: The novel Motta Coqueiro or A Pena de Morte by José do Patrocínio was published for the first time in a serial, spread at the newspaper Gazeta de Notícias from 22nd of December, 1877 to 3rd of March, 1878. The work has a narrow connection with the Press, for it was inspired and based in a true story reported by several newspapers in 1852: the murder of eight people in an aggregate family. The episode ended up with the capital punishment of an influential farmer named Manuel da Motta Coqueiro, who lived in the region and was accused of being responsible for the crime. In this dissertation will be in evidence the existent relation between Literature and Press in the first novel written by José do Patrocínio. In order to do it ,some newspapers articles concerning to the case Motta Coqueiro from 1852 to 1855, were analysed, as well as the essays that resumed this matter during the year of 1877. At this period, the serial novel written by José do Patrocínio started to be edited daily, presenting the Coqueiro's execution as a judicial mistake

This dissertation aims to reflect the changes of beneficiaries and forms of occupation of the existing lots in the settlement Capelinha, located in Concei??o de Macabu, north region of the State of Rio de Janeiro. It supposes that the beneficiaries changes process is related to the economic, social and political situation that is found insert the settlement, offering information of social process that occur in the interior of the settlements, not always noticed. In this way, different beneficiaries changes modalities are described, such as: the abandonment; the expulsion, the exchanges of lot, the individual and collective invasion, the judicial eviction, the sale of lots, the substitution of title, like others. Besides, it relates some characteristics that ought to determine the forms of occupation of the lots, sucks as the mechanisms of decision and the logics of people settled, defined in the Laws of the Settlements , that is the assembly of rules established and questioned during the past of time. From the company with the settlement people and the analysis of primary documents and the minutes of the Association for eight years, it was possible to establish alterations in the beneficiaries changes modalities, during the three phases systematized, in consequence of the capacity of organization and social cohesion and of the quality and frequency of the actions of the administrative organ of the settlement.

Abstract:
Many primate populations face the threat of extinction due to habitat loss, intensive agriculture, hunting for meat, the pet trade and/or use in traditional medicines. An alternative approach to in situ conservation includes gene banking and the use of assisted reproductive technologies (ART), such as oocyte in vitro maturation (IVM) and in vitro fertilization (IVF). Although many of these 'high-tech' solutions have not yet been proven viable for pragmatic wildlife conservation, basic research and development of these emerging tools can provide necessary information needed to optimize these techniques and institute ART as a routine practice in conservation efforts. A severely limiting factor in the successful application of ARTs is the availability of mature developmentally competent oocytes. Oocyte maturation involves many nuclear and cytoplasmic factors, which can be affected by maturation conditions and female age. In vitro maturation does not have the same success rate across species studied. In primates especially, IVM oocytes exhibit reduced developmental capacity upon fertilization when compared to in vivo matured (IVO) oocytes. This study aimed to investigate possible causes of reduced developmental capacity of primate IVM oocytes using the rhesus macaque (Macaca mulatta) as a model. Research efforts included investigation of ovarian senescence, oocyte karyotype and spindle morphology, and establishment of an optimal sperm cryopreservation protocol for use in IVF. Histological examination of the rhesus ovary demonstrated an age-related pattern of follicle depletion similar to that described in the human ovary. Oocyte karyotype analysis revealed a significant effect of IVM on the frequency of hyperhaploidy. In addition, immunostaining and confocal microscopy demonstrated a significant increase of anomalous chromosome congression on the oocyte metaphase II spindle equator in relation to IVM and donor female age. These results indicate that IVM can produce serious, if not lethal consequences for embryo development. This study presents baseline data on ovarian aging in the rhesus macaque and aspects of nuclear maturation during macaque IVM that may contribute to the design of primate oocyte recovery plans. Implementation of either of two sperm cryopreservation methods originally developed for rhesus and vervet monkeys will aid future investigation of the developmental capacity of IVM oocytes.

Abstract:
This thesis, by historicizing the term macabre from its origins in the Late Middle Ages, seeks to understand the repercussions of both literature and iconography involving the macabre during the 19th Century, a time when the medieval imaginary was revived through Romanticism. The manifestations of this romantic sensibility as respects to death in the 19th Century in Brazil are also investigated, in an attempt to analyze its influences in Brazilian poetry and prose. The poem A orgia dos duendes, by Bernardo Guimarães, is given special attention in this investigation, as it is deemed the most significant example of the Danse Macabre in Brazil.

Abstract:
In 2012, Macau government approved and passed the “System Framework for Private School Teaching Staff of Non-tertiary Education” in the legislative council. It is aimed at improving non-tertiary teachers’ professionalism in terms of setting hierarchies and provides training continuously. Teachers having a high level of research capacity can improve and solve education issues in Macau. Education Statistics are one of the important methods in research capacity. To develop this idea, therefore, my topic is “Analysis of variance and Its Applications in Macao Educational Researches”.In this paper a series of statistical methods will be studied, namely, ANOVA, ANCOVA and MANCOVA. They can be used to analyze multivariate data. Knowledge of these techniques will enable researchers to investigate and answer a vast array of research questions. This paper will apply also a real example in educational field in order to explain the manipulation of ANOVA, ANCOVA and MANOVA for data analysis.

Full text
Abstract:
Asymmetries in the distribution of photoreceptor size, density, and packing order have important consequences for the intepretation of anatomic models of retinal development and models of visual function that make assumptions about the geometry of the photoreceptor mosaic. Cone density and inner segment diameter were measured in whole mounted, nondehydrated pigtail macaque (Macaca nemestrina) retinas, viewed under Nomarski optics. Highest cone densities in the foveal center of two adult animals averaged 189,000 cones/mm2. Along the horizontal meridian, there were more cones at equal eccentricities in the peripheral nasal retina than in the peripheral temporal retina. The nasotemporal ratio increased with eccentricity, reaching a maximum of 3:1. On the vertical meridian, the inferior retina was higher in density than the superior retina by a maximum ratio of 1.5:1. Cone inner segment diameter in one animal ranged from 2.6 μm at the foveal center to over 11 μm in the periphery, in all retinal quadrants. Since cones at comparable eccentricities in nasal and temporal retina have equal diameters, the proportion of peripheral retina covered by cones is greater nasally than temporally.

Abstract:
Hormones such as estrogen are known to have an effect on the biomechanical properties of certain ligaments such as the anterior cruciate ligament in the knee; however, relatively little is known about its effect on the ligaments of the shoulder. The inferior glenohumeral ligament (IGHL) is a static stabilizer of the shoulder that prevents anterior translation of the humeral head. Alterations to the properties of this ligament can result in capsular stretching, increased laxity, and ultimately instability. The cynomolgus macaque (Macaca fascicularis) shares many hormonal similarities with humans including a 28-day menstrual cycle and is a commonly used model for hormone replacement therapy studies. This study uses the female cynomolgus monkey as a model of the human shoulder to determine if estrogen has an effect on the regional surface strain behavior of the inferior glenohumeral ligament.

Abstract:
In practical applications, model accuracy alone is insufficient; quantifying model uncertainty is crucial, particularly in mission-critical scenarios involving life, money, or reputation. In this paper, we propose a novel method called MACAU (Model-based AleatoriC and epistemic uncertainty Uantification) and implement it in the LightGBM gradient-boosting framework. MACAU enables the quantification of both aleatoric and epistemic uncertainties in Random Forest (RF). Additionally, MACAU offers enhanced noveltydetection capabilities, particularly valuable for identifying out-of-distribution (OOD) samples. We compare MACAU with other RF- or gradient boosted trees-based methods, including RF-native between-variance, quantile regression, inductive conformal prediction, exogeneous model for uncertainty estimation using the Gaussian negative log-likelihood method, Natural Gradient Boosting, and CatBoost. Our evaluation is conducted on both synthetic and real-world regression cases. The results demonstrate the effectiveness of MACAU in quantifying model uncertainty, as measured by the Continuous Ranked Probability Score, as well as detecting OOD samples, as measured by the ROCAUC.
