Full textFounded in 1989 by Lucrecia Carrión Romero, Lucky emerged as a business opportunity that consisted in providing marketing services Below the line (BTL) to the company she worked for, currently Alicorp. Over time, the organization has developed and consolidated three business lines: Lucky Trade, which promotes the management of distribution channels for goods produced by its customers; Lucky Promo, focused on the development of high impact promotion at the point of sale; and Lucky Xplora, which provides real-time information on management results at points of sale. The review of sustainability reports according to the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) standard prepared by Lucky allowed us to show that the main problem of the organization is the lack of a risk management model. This review was complemented with other sustainability standards that emphasized the need for an analysis of materiality, and that converged on the importance of measuring the company’s economic, social and environmental impacts over its different interest groups. Likewise, from the literature review, it was possible to demonstrate and conclude that risk management is a vital element to achieve long-term sustainability, which is linked to the concepts of corporate social responsibility and shared value creation. The proposed solution is to implement a risk management model based on a standard and global acceptance guide: ISO 31000: 2018. Through this standard, the reference framework and the process will be established, and a group of principles will be adopted, which will function as key success factors for the model to be self-sustaining and to be part of the organizational culture. This implementation proposal recommends the creation of an autonomous entity, which will be responsible for leading a proactive and preventive risk management, which will enrich the process of preparing future sustainability reports, improving accountability to its various stakeholders.

Full textOptical lucky imaging polarimetry of HL Tau and XZ Tau in the Taurus-Auriga molecular cloud was carried out with the instrument PolCor at the Nordic Optical Telescope (NOT). The results show that in both the V- and R-band HL Tau show centrosymmetric structures of the polarization angle in its northeastern outflow lobe (degree of polarization ~30%). A C-shaped structure is detected which is also present at near-IR wavelengths (Murakawa, 2008), and higher resolution optical images (Stapelfeldt, 1995). The position angle of the outflow is 47.5+-7.5 degrees, which coincides with previous measurements and the core polarization is observed to decrease with wavelength and a few scenarios are reviewed. Measuring the outflow witdh versus distance and wavelength shows that the longer wavelengths scatter deeper within the cavity wall of the outflow. In XZ Tau the binary is partially resolved, it is indicated by an elongated intensity distribution. The polarization of the parental cloud is detected in XZ Tau through the dichroic extinction of starlight. Lucky imaging at the NOT is a great way of increasing the resolution, shifting increases the sharpness by 0.1 asec and selection the sharpest frames can increase the seeing with 0.4 asec, perhaps more during better conditions.
Seher, Tim. "Seismic structure of the Lucky Strike Segment at the Mid-Atlantic Ridge." Paris, Institut de physique du globe, 2008. http://www.theses.fr/2008GLOB0007.
Full textIn June 2005, the Sismomar survey explored the seismic structure of the slow-spreading Lucky Strike segment on the Mid-Atlantic Ridge. This thesis presents results from a segment scale reflection study of seismic layer 2A, a segment scale refraction study of whole crustal velocity structure, and a high resolution refraction study of the upper crust beneath and immediately surrounding the Lucky Strike seamount. The combination of the three seismic studies provides insights into the tectonic, magmatic and hydrothermal processes shaping the crustal structure of the segment. In the upper crust, the three-dimensional velocity model derived from travel time tomography shows a low velocity anomaly running parallel to the ridge axis, which is limited laterally by the median valley bounding faults. Velocities are lowest beneath recent volcanic edifices like the Lucky Strike volcano. The reflection and refraction measurements indicate an abrupt o -axis thinning of seismic layer 2A at the bounding faults. Furthermore, the seismic measurements show a low velocity anomaly that underlies the axial melt lens reflector below the Lucky Strike volcano. The low velocity zone can be explained by the presence of elevated temperatures and possibly a small amount of melt. The segment-center magma chamber, as well as thicker crust at the segment center, are consistent with a focused melt supply to the segment center

Full textThe Lucky Strike hydrothermal vent field is located on the Mid-Atlantic Ridge at a depth of 1700m. Mussels (Bathymodiolus azoricus) dominate the megafauna and form large assemblages in low temperature flow areas. Lucky Strike’s microbial mats appeared as white attached filaments covering a large part of the mussel assemblages and fluid exposed hydrothermal deposits. Light microscopy observations revealed a wide diversity of morphologies both in shape and size among microbial populations. To better understand microbial mats function in the ecosystem and their possible relationships with other biological communities, their diversity and metabolically active populations were investigated through molecular and cultural approaches. Archaeal diversity appeared to be limited to the Thaumarchaeota but bacterial diversity was considerably higher, even if the Proteobacteria and Bacteroidetes phyla were dominant. DNA and RNA functional gene libraries analyses also revealed the diversity and activity of chemolithoautotrophic populations. Both PCR and RT-PCR, using new Bathymodiolus sp. Symbionts 16S rRNA specific gene primers, revealed sequences affiliated to both methanotrophic and thiotrophic mussel endosymbionts, suggesting that living symbionts are present in the mats samples. Cultural approaches didn’t allow us to isolate new species, but we performed a long time enrichment culture under controlled conditions during the Bathyluck (2009) cruise. The molecular survey of this culture, designed for sulfo-oxidizers, revealed organotrophic and lithotrophic communities that were not retrieved by the molecular characterization of environmental mat samples

Full textThis doctoral dissertation analyzes two novels by the American novelist Robert Coover as examples of hypertextual writing on the book bound page, as tokens of hyperfiction. The complexity displayed in the novels, John's Wife and The Adventures of Lucky Pierre, integrates the cultural elements that characterize the contemporary condition of capitalism and technologized practices that have fostered a different subjectivity evidenced in hypertextual writing and reading, the posthuman subjectivity. The models that account for the complexity of each novel are drawn from the concept of strange attractors in Chaos Theory and from the concept of rhizome in Nomadology. The transformations the characters undergo in the degree of their corporeality sets the plane on which to discuss turbulence and posthumanity. The notions of dynamic patterns and strange attractors, along with the concept of the Body without Organs and Rhizome are interpreted, leading to the revision of narratology and to analytical categories appropriate to the study of the novels. The reading exercised throughout this dissertation enacts Daniel Punday's corporeal reading. The changes in the characters' degree of materiality are associated with the stages of order, turbulence and chaos in the story, bearing on the constitution of subjectivity within and along the reading process. Coover's inscription of planes of consistency to counter linearity and accommodate hypertextual features to the paper supported narratives describes the characters' trajectory as rhizomatic. The study led to the conclusion that narrative today stands more as a regime in a rhizomatic relation with other regimes in cultural practice than as an exclusively literary form and genre. Besides this, posthuman subjectivity emerges as class identity, holding hypertextual novels as their literary form of choice.
Dusunur, Doga. "Thermal structure of Mid-Ocean Ridges (Lucky Strike, Mid-Atlantic Ridge) and magma chambers." Paris, Institut de physique du globe, 2008. http://www.theses.fr/2008GLOB0002.
Full textModeling the thermal state of the oceanic crust is an important task to understand the construction of oceanic crust which covers two thirds of the surface of our planet. The interplays among magma delivery to the axis and cooling of the oceanic lithosphere as a function of both space and time are key factors to understand the creation of the oceanic crust, which is primarily determined by the overall thermal structure of mid-ocean ridges. Classical thermal models do not predict steady state axial magma chambers (AMCs) along mid-ocean ridges at spreading rates less than 30 mm/year. The identification and seismic imaging of an axial magma chamber underlying the Lucky Strike central volcano and hydrothermal field at the Mid-Atlantic Ridge provides a unique opportunity to study the thermal structure of slow spreading ridges. Here we present coupled microseismic data and thermal modeling to provide insight on the nature of ephemeral magma chambers at slow-spreading ridges, to constrain the timescales associated with changes in melt supply and the parameters that can create them, and to shed light on the different mechanisms that can result on the cooling and disappearance of these structures. Both the coupled microseismic and thermal modeling results, and the time-constraints derived from the geological constraints put forward, suggest that focused melt supply to the segment center is required regularly, and that this supply is maintained over extended periods of time, that can lead to a durable magma chamber. This thesis, while focusing on the processes occurring at the Lucky Strike, provide a more general template to both understand and study other slow-spreading ridge segments, and to gain insight on how the oceanic crust is formed along them

Full textENGLISH ABSTRACT: HIV/AIDS has escalated into a global health pandemic. Africa has emerged as the most severely affected continent with more than half of the world’s HIV infected population residing in Sub-Saharan Africa. Consequently various awareness campaigns have been launched in attempts to stifle the rapid spread of the pandemic. Much emphasis has been placed on communication as effective strategy specifically when it has a participatory and community-based approach which offers education through alternative ways of responding to HIV/AIDS in order to reach and involve the individual target audience. The value of entertainment as an effective intervention tool through which to inform and educate is of major importance. Theatre is widely implemented as a tool when attempting problem solving and group and/or individual behaviour-change. Lucky, the Hero! an HIV/AIDS Educational Theatre intervention initiative was launched by The Africa Centre for HIV/AIDS Management after research established that alarmingly low levels of HIV/AIDS knowledge existed amongst the predominantly Afrikaans speaking farm workers communities of the Western Cape region as media campaigns had not successfully reached them due to geographical isolation and illiteracy. Theoretical guidelines for the development process and implementation of Lucky, the Hero! are provided: how it came about; its content and messages; and the intricacies of how the show was rolled out to audiences. The specific results and findings of such an Educational Theatre intervention campaign in the Breede River Valley during September 2007 are discussed, as well as how successful the practical implementation of the intervention has been in terms of its theoretical base and initial purpose. Lucky, the Hero! was found to be overall successful in achieving its aims and proved to be entertaining and educational. It improved general knowledge of HIV infection amongst participants and motivated intentions towards positive behaviour change. Over 2000 participants were also tested during the 14-day intervention. Theatre as intervention tool proved to be effective in this specific instance as most participants agreed that educational theatre was an appropriate method to positively influence HIV/AIDS related behaviour in the community. They also expressed the wish to see the performance again and said they would encourage others to see it. Although the evaluation methods served their purpose in proving that theatre was an effective tool in HIV/AIDS education and provided basic information and results about HIV/AIDS and the intervention strategy method and campaign, a multi-integrated approach needs to be considered. The latter should include follow up interventions focusing on ongoing HIV/AIDS education and training in order to achieve feasible and sustainable long term results.

Full textIn this thesis, I investigate the nature, space-time variability, distribution and associated heat flux of hydrothermal activity at the Lucky Strike hydrothermal field (Mid-Atlantic Ridge, 37°17'N). As part of the MoMAR experiment to monitor hydrothermal activity, we used an ROV to acquired photomosaics of the seafloor and to deploy temperature sensors at black smoker, cracks, and diffuse hydrothermal outflows. Seafloor imagery provides detailed and accurate constrain on the distribution, geometry, and nature of hydrothermal outflow. Repeated surveys allow us to evaluate the temporal variability of these systems. Temperature records show two main temporal patterns: (1) episodic variability with rapid temperature changes, and (2) systematic variability at tidal periods. Cross-spectral methods applied to the temperature and bottom pressure records reveal robust phase relationships, particularly for the high-temperature records, as predicted by poroelastic theory. These results demonstrate the tidal pressures diffusely propagate through the porous matrix hosting sub-surface flow, which results in phase lags between the surface pressure and the fluid discharge temperature. We use th,is observation to constrain hydrologie parameters of the sub-surface circulation system at the Lucky Strike field. Finally, I also investigated in the laboratory the nature of flow associated with a heat source comparable to a crack. Temperature gradients between the heat source and the ambient seawater modulate the frequency and ascent velocity of thermals forming above the cracks, a dependency that may be applied in the future to calculate heat fluxes from video imagery acquired in the field

Full textIn nearly forty years of research, significant insights have been gained on vent field geology, on the chemistry of emitted fluid and on the ecology of the communities inhabiting hydrothermal ecosystems. The fauna forms dense assemblages, distributed along the hydrothermal fluid/sea water mixing gradient, and visually dominated only by a few species. The high spatio-temporal variability of the hydrothermal fluid has a strong influence on species distribution. However, the mechanisms determining the species response to this variability is still poorly understood. In order to investigate this issue, a modelling approach is presented. Data collected for more than 20 years on the Eiffel Tower edifice, on the Lucky Strike vent filed (Mid-Atlantic Ridge) were integrated in order to identify meaningful elements for our problem. An integrative study of the faunal biomasses on the edifice showed that these are dominated by the mussel Bathymodiolus azoricus. This bivalve is likely to have a significant influence on the ecosystem functioning and is thus the object of a first model. The search for data to constrain it led to the measurement of in situ metabolic rates. Once parametrized, the model provided quantitative estimates of unknown fluxes. The simulation of hydrothermal flow interruption provided some insights on the mussel biomass response to its environment variability
