Abstract:
This study deals with Ivan Lucic-Lucius (Giovanni Lucio, Iohannes Lucius) (1604–1679), the father of the Croatian historiography and his manuscript heritage which contains more than 2000 mostly medieval documents. In 2015, a research group came into existence at Eötvös Loránd University, Budapest led by Tamás Körmendi to research the manuscripts, particularly the unpublished documents of the Árpádian and Angevin era and the author of this study is a member of the group. In this paper, I present Ivan Lucic-Lucius’s life, scholarship, research methodology and analyze his place in the Croatian historiography. The main subject of the paper is the manuscript heritage which is a collection of sources gathered together by Ivan Lucic-Lucius and his colleagues, friends, and family members from all around Dalmatia from the 1630s. Ivan Lucic-Lucius and his helpers researched in many secular, ecclesiastical and family archives, copied documents, and after a critical analysis, Lucic-Lucius arranged them by regions and put them in writing in chronological order. Many of the collected sources were published in his works, but hundreds of them are still kept in Ivan Lucic-Lucius’s heritage while the original documents, from which they were copied, are lost by now. The manuscripts are kept in the Archbishopric Archive of Split and a twentieth-century handwritten copy also exists in the Archive of the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts in Zagreb. The heritage of twelve books contains hundreds of unpublished medieval documents for example Hungarian royal and ducal privileges, documents of the urban administration and the burghers of many Dalmatian towns, charters that can be connected to the Hungarian administration in Dalmatia, and ecclesiastical documents.

Abstract:
Abstract Background: Neoadjuvant dual targeting of HER2 with trastuzumab (H) and pertuzumab (P) plus chemotherapy is the standard of care for high-risk HER2-positive (HER2+) breast cancer (BC). Compelling data show the contribution of the immune system in prognosis and response/resistance to HER2 directed therapies, supporting combination of immune checkpoint inhibitors with anti HER2 antibodies. We designed APTneo to test the role of adding atezolizumab to neoadjuvant dual targeting of HER2 with chemotherapy, and the value of also using anthracyclines in this setting. Methods: In this multicenter open label phase III trial (NCT03595592), 661 patients (pts) with high-risk early and locally advanced (LA) centrally confirmed HER2+ BC were randomized to neoadjuvant HPCT (H and P d1, carboplatin and paclitaxel iv d1 and 8) given q3 wks for 6 cycles w/o (n=223, ARM A) or with atezolizumab 1200 mg iv d1 (n=438, ARM B). In Arm B pts were randomized to Arm B1 (n=218) to receive anthracycline and cyclophosphamide (AC) + atezolizumab iv d1 q3 wks for 3 cycles followed by HPCT + atezolizumab for 3 cycles, or to arm B2 (n=220) to receive HPCT + atezolizumab for 6 cycles. After surgery pts continued adjuvant HER2 directed therapies w/wo atezolizumab until completion of 1 year. Among intent-to-treat (ITT) pts, 44.8% were LABC, 35% hormonal receptor (HR) negative and 30.4% PD-L1 positive. Primary endpoint is event-free survival (EFS) of Arm B vs A. A key secondary endpoint is the rate of pCR (ypT0/Tis, ypN0) w/wo atezolizumab. Primary population for all efficacy endpoints is ITT. We also assessed baseline PD-L1 status (Ventana SP142) and stromal Tumor Infiltrating Lymphocytes (sTILs). Results: pCR rate in Arm B (57.8%) vs Arm A (52.0%) was not significantly increased (adjHR 1.33, 95% CI 0.95-1.86; p=0.091). Also, the difference in pCR rate in Arm B1 (61.9%) vs Arm B2 (53.6%) was not significant (adjHR 1.402, 95% CI 0.95-2.07; p=0.089). Compared to Arm A, Arm B1 had a 9.9% significantly higher pCR rate (multivariate analysis in Table). The different pCR rate in arms B1 and A was similar regardless of HR and PD-L1 status. High sTILs (≥30%) and PD-L1positive tumors had a higher likelihood of pCR in all arms. Serious adverse events (SAE) after start of therapy occurred in 6.8% pts in Arm A and 14.1% in Arm B (p=0.0064). SAE were numerically more frequent in Arm B1 than Arm B2 (16.7% and 11.6%, respectively), due to hematological toxicity with AC. Immune-related SAE were quite infrequent and similar in B1 (4.7%) and B2 (7.8%), respectively. No grade 5 AE did occur. Conclusions: Addition of atezolizumab to chemotherapy and HP did not significantly increase the rate of pCR in women with HER2+ BC. An exploratory analysis showed that adding atezolizumab to neoadjuvant AC followed by HPCT led to higher pCR rate compared to HPCT and atezolizumab. This could be because of anthracyclines themselves or to drug-drug enhancement of anthracyclines and immune modulation. Atezolizumab did not cause major tolerability issues. Molecular studies of collected biospecimens are ongoing. Patients will continue to be followed up for EFS and overall survival analyses. Table. Abstract:

SummaryThe study looks into the perception of Lucian Blaga’s philosophical theories, in particular those conferred in the volume titled „Spațiul mioritic”. This volume brought about a series of controversial discussions around philosophy, literature and religion that subsequently led to the formation of divergent views around Blaga’s theories.Furthermore, the correlation between his theories and the ballad “Miorița” stands as proof for the national identity together with the literary function of the narrative work. In other words, the study emphasizes the problem of interference within the whole philosophical system, through references to the narrative work “Miorița” together with Blaga’s ethical system.

Abstract:

Abstract:
This PhD practice-led research inquiry sets out to examine and describe how the fluid interactions between memory and time can be rendered via the remediation of my painting and the construction of a digital image archive. My abstract digital art and handcrafted practice is informed by Deleuze and Guattari’s rhizomics of becoming. I aim to show that the technological mobility of my creative strategies produce new conditions of artistic possibility through the mobile principles of rhizomic interconnection, multiplicity and diversity. Subsequently through the ongoing modification of past painting I map how emergent forms and ideas open up new and incisive engagements with the experience of a ‘continual present’. The deployment of new media and cross media processes in my art also deterritorialises the modernist notion of painting as a static and two dimensional spatial object. Instead, it shows painting in a postmodern field of dynamic and transformative intermediality through digital formats of still and moving images that re-imagines the relationship between memory, time and creative practice.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Abstract The Somnium, Lucian’s allegedly autobiographical account of the circumstances which led to his choice of career, is a delightful, but enigmatic work. The rhetor from Samosata begins by telling of a family conference held when he came of age in order to determine his future. His father decides that young Lucian should be apprenticed as a sculptor to his maternal uncle. Lucian, who has often been punished in the past for moulding figures of wax scraped from his writing tablets at school, is, he tells us, delighted at the prospect. On the very first day of his apprenticeship, he manages to ruin a slab of marble. His uncle beats him and the tearful Lucian runs home. That night he has a dream in which two women—work-stained, poorly dressed Techne and refined, comely Paideia—fight over him and his future. Each of the two women addresses him directly, trying to convince him to adopt her way of life. Dirty, mannish Techne offers a life oflabour and pains-taking craftsmanship as a sculptor, while the ladylike Paideia promises Lucian admiration and honour, if he should become educated and learn how to speak. Lucian does not even need to hear out Paideia to the end of her speech: hers is the path he chooses. Paideia immediately rewards the young Lucian for his decision by taking him for a ride in her chariot across the heavens. The young man scatters seeds of some kind to the admiring people below and then returns home, newly garbed, where Paideia proudly presents him to his father. His choice, Lucian states at the conclusion of the Somnium, can serve as an inspiration to other young men of little means.

Abstract:
The ability to verify and reason about programs was one of the main goals behind the design and development of Lucid. In fact, from its very inception Lucid was intended to be not just a programming language, but also a formal system in which program specifications and correctness proofs could be expressed as well. Our goal was a formal programming system in which programs for “realistically” complicated problems could be proved correct with only a realistic amount of effort. The nonprocedural nature of Lucid and its mathematical semantics led naturally to a reasoning technique where properties proved of variables and functions (assertions) are true throughout the where clauses in which the variables and functions are defined, and are not just thought of as being true at particular points where they are “attached” (as would be the case in the usual verification technique for procedural programs). In that respect, Lucid verification is like verification of functional programs. The assertions proved for Lucid, however, have the basic simplicity of the assertions proved in the procedural case, and the proofs are very similar. We will illustrate the differences by using a very simple program for computing integer square roots. We will express it in an imperative language, in a functional language, and in Lucid and show how verification would be performed for each language using the different techniques. In all three techniques, we will use the following terminology from the procedural approach, namely that the precondition is a restriction on the inputs of a program and the postcondition is a desired property of the outputs of the program, assuming that the inputs satisfied the precondition.

Abstract:
Abstract In the April 1967 issue of the Law Quarterly Review Patrick Atiyah, then a Fellow of New College, published a characteristically thoughtful and lucid paper on ‘Negligence and Economic Loss’. In it he considered the effect of the then recent decision in Hedley Byrne & Co. Ltd. v. Heller & Partners Ltd. (‘Hedley Byrne’) on what he described as ‘the general rule that liability in the tort of negligence did not extend to purely economic loss’. Feldthusen in his monograph Economic Negligence suggests that no such general rule then existed and that Atiyah’s paper was influential in the development of the approach in England and the British Commonwealth which subsumed various categories of economic loss under a general rule.

Abstract The Albinois Bindo had been greatly struck by the appearance of Beatrice. There was a wildness in her countenance and gestures that excited his curiosity; and he seemed to feel instinctively that she had about her the marks of one who dealt with un embodied spirits. He had ventured to speak to his mistress concerning her; but he learnt nothing except that Ferrara was her native town. With this slight information he visited his friend, the witch, and they canvassed the subject together.

Abstract:
Abstract The Caribbean became a theatre of war from 1758 onward. The British conquered Guadeloupe in 1759 and Martinique in 1762. When peace negotiations began, the Great Britain domestic lobbies struggled to decide which conquest had to be kept: Guadeloupe or Canada. Finally, French recovered Guadeloupe and won Saint Lucia, whereas the British acquired the other former neutral islands and kept Canada. The Seven Years’ War in the Caribbean must also be considered from the point of view of the populations. The enslaved people experienced a hard time during the war. The Macandal poisoning affair in Saint Domingue, and Tacky’s Revolt in Jamaica led to a worsening of the living conditions of slaves in following decades. Finally, whether in terms of relations between the great imperial powers or between masters and slaves, the Seven Years’ War in the Caribbean Indies was a time of implementation of new balances of power.

Abstract:
The aim of this short paper is to highlight nature’s central role in the constitution and progress of human morality, by analysing nature’s multiple characters as displayed in various sections of Seneca’s work. First, the focus will extend to man’s fundamental propensity to good, which belongs to him by nature. Secondly, a virtuous and happy life will be presented as the life led according to nature. In conclusion, research on natural phenomena will be accounted for, as a building block towards moral perfection. The relationship between all the previous traits, mentioned in the cited passages, constitutes the heart of Seneca’s ethical naturalism.

Abstract:
Describes the cultivation of sweet chestnut in Central Italy, from the middle ages to the present, showing how care for plant morphology led peasant farmers to shape trees through practices of grafting and pruning. Ethnographic description, photographs, and diagrams illustrate grafting practices in the Monte Pisano between Pisa and Lucca, in Tuscany. Plant morphology records the responses of plants to their environment, recording the biographies of individual trees in response to fire, disease, cutting, and soil fertility. Concern with visible tree morphology led peasant cultivators to care about invisible processes of soil fertility and water availability, which in turn led to the building of terracing and drainage systems. Relationships with plants have inspired farmer and state concern with plants, soils, and landscapes. Around the world, attention to plants inspires a practical geomorphological politics that reshapes landscapes. Plant and landscape form can be described through attention to diagrams that make visible key relationships.

Abstract:
Abstract Don Fernando’s concern about the future that awaited him in Killac grew with each passing day. He was paying for confidential investigations that kept him informed about what was going on in the town and convinced him that the prevailing calm was merely apparent and not to be trusted, although Lucia’s delicate condition led him to keep his information from her. Providence was going to bless their home with offspring; and this caused the father-to-be to think often about his need to reach a clear decision and put an end to the vacillation that had continued for three months, ever since the visit during which Manuel had conceived such far-reaching plans. One day Don Fernando’s ideas began to take a more definitive turn, and he said to himself, “The progress Margarita is making, the pliant temperament of Rosalia, who promises to be a good little girl, my Lucia’s condition-all of this augurs a delightful future for my family. My duty is not to waste this opportunity and to seize all the happiness that could be mine with a wife like Lucia.

Abstract:
<div class="section abstract"><div class="htmlview paragraph">For safe driving function, signs must be visible. Sign visibility is function of its luminance intensity. During day, due to ambient light conditions sign luminance is not a major concern. But during night, due to absence of sun light sign board retro-reflectivity plays a crucial role in sign visibility. The vehicle headlamp color, beam pattern, lamp installation position, the relative seating position of driver and moon light conditions are important factors. Virtual simulation approach is used for analyzing the sign board visibility. Among various factors for example the headlamp installation position from ground, distance between two lamps and eye position of driver are considered for analyzing the sign board visibility in this paper. Many automotive organizations have widely varying requirements and established testing guidelines to ensure visibility of signs in head lamp physical testing but there are no guidelines during design stage for headlamp for sign visibility.</div><div class="htmlview paragraph">In this paper, among several other considerations focus is given on enhancing the driver’s ability to truly control the driving experience using Ansys VRXperience night drive simulator capability. Bifunctional LED projector headlamp CAD is used for generating light intensity files in Lucid Shape. These light intensity ray files (IES file format) which is output from Lucid Shape software is used as input to Ansys VRXperience for in scenario driving simulation and to understand the real time visibility of signs while driving. The nighttime sign visibility simulation process is established for virtual verification of lamp installation position and consequently its impact on driving experience in early design phase. This helps in addressing last minute changes in design and costly prototype mockups required to check the safety aspect.</div></div>
