Molybdenum disulphides (MoS2), which belong to the family of transition metal dichalcogenides, are well known for their solid lubricating behaviour. Thin films of MoS2 exhibit extremely low coefficient of friction in dry environments, and are typically applied by mixed in oil, grease or impregnated into porous matrix of powdered materials, sputter deposition, pulsed laser ablation, evaporation or chemical vapour deposition and, which are essentially either line-of-sight or high temperature processes. Solid lubricant coatings are attractive because they can reduce friction-generated heat. MoS2 is a common solid lubricant. However, the use of MoS2 can limited by excessive wear, as well as a friction coefficient. Several studies on solid lubricant coatings demonstrated success in lubricating dry sliding contacts over very long periods in tribometer tests or reciprocating sliding experiments.Several pellet-on-disk and pad-on-disk tribometer tests were conducted to study the lubrication characteristics of third-body particles of MoS2 powder. The tests consisted of simultaneous pellet-on-disk and pad-on-disk sliding contacts. Results from the tests show the self-repairing, self-replenishing, oil-free lubrication mechanism of MoS2. A theoretical control volume fractional coverage (CVFC) model was developed to predict: - (1) the friction coefficient at the pad-on-disk interface and - (2) the wear coefficient for the lubricated pellet-on-disk sliding contact. The fractional coverage varies with time and quantifies the amount of third-body film covering the disk asperities. Results from the model capture the tribological behaviour of the experimental sliding contacts reasonably well. The aim of this paper is modeling and experimentation of solid lubrification with MoS2 particles through self-repairing and self-replenishing and through the comparision between theoretical and experimental results obtained in the process of friction and wear by tribological tests.

Background: Knee osteoarthritis (KOA) is one of the most common causes of disability in elderly patients and tends to be a major burden on social and health care spending. Despite its severe socioeconomic impact, KOA remains, to date, an incurable disease. Due to its proper characteristics, KOA represents a favorable disease model for experimenting with senotherapeutics, a group of treatments that counteract the development of age-related disorders and chronic diseases. In recent years, the use of intra-articular hyaluronic acid (IAHA) in the treatment of diseases related to the wear and tear of the articular cartilage has been gaining popularity. Given its ability in joint lubrification, shock absorption, and cell signaling, our aim is to investigate, through the existing scientific literature, its potential role as a senomorphic agent, emphasizing its crucial function in KOA patients. Indeed, senomorphics are a particular group of senotherapeutics capable of modulating the functions and morphology of senescent cells to those of young cells or delaying the progression of young cells to senescent cells in tissues. Methods: A search in the scientific literature (PubMed, Cochrane Library, and Google Scholar) was carried out from 2019 to 2023, thus the last 5 years. Results: One hundred thirty-eight articles were found concerning the role of hyaluronic acid injections in KOA patients. In these studies, its therapeutic efficacy, its anti-inflammatory properties, and its low risk of side effects emerged. Conclusion: IAHA injections are a valuable treatment option for KOA while they can provide pain relief, improve joint function, and slow the progression of joint degeneration. The inhibitory effect of HA on MMP13 and its action as a senomorphic agent suggests that it may have additional benefits beyond its lubricating and shock-absorbing properties. In order to clarify its mechanisms of action and to optimize its clinical use, further studies are definitely needed.

The general framework of this paper is in the field of numerical simulation of asperity crushing. Different material forming processes, such as strip-rolling and deep drawing, imply mixed lubrication. In this lubrication regime, two types of contact are present at the same time: a direct contact between the two solids at the asperity level and also valleys filled with pressurized oil. Theses contact conditions have a large influence on friction and wear taking place during the upsetting process. As this mixed type of contact is not yet fully understood from the physics point of view, numerical models are essential to achieve a better understanding. For example, semi-analytical asperity crushing models have been developed by Wilson&Sheu [1] and Sutcliffe [2] to take into account the influence of bulk plastic deformations on asperity crushing. The finite element method has also been used to model asperity crushing. Ike&Makinouchi [3] studied the behavior of 2D triangular-shaped asperities under different boundary conditions. Krozekwa et al. [4] modeled 3D triangular asperities behavior, for various bulk strain directions. More recently, Lu et al. [5] compared experimental results of pyramid-shaped asperity and ridge-shaped asperity crushing with finite element simulation results. As in the three former references mentioned above, it has been decided, to study the interaction between a rigid plane and a simplified geometry asperity without lubricant. In this article, numerical asperity crushing results obtained with Metafor[6], a home made large strains software, will be presented. Those results will illustrate the influence of boundary conditions, contact pressure, large bulk strain and geometry of asperities on the evolution of the contact area. As the asperity crushing behaviour is known to be very sensitive to the boundary conditions, in this article, we will also present results using boundary conditions from a cold rolling model named MetaLub. MetaLub [7-8] is a software developed at the University of Liege in partnership with ArcelorMittal R&D center. It iteratively solves the equations resulting from the discretisation using the slab method of the strip coupled to a mixed lubrication model at the interface. This lubrication model takes into account the evolution of the oil film thickness as well as the asperity crushing along the roll bite. We will compare the evolution of the relative contact area obtained with MetaLub to the results obtained with finite elements simulations using the same boundary conditions. The advancement of digital technology needs biometric security systems. Face detection plays an essential role in the security of digital devices. The detection of a face based on the lower content of the facial image for the processing of detection. In this paper modified the BP Neural Network Model for the detection of the human face. The modification of face detection algorithms incorporates feature optimization. The feature optimization process reduces the distorted features of the facial image. The optimized features of facial image enhance the performance of face detection for the optimization of features used glowworm optimization algorithms. The glowworm optimization algorithm is a dynamic population-based search technique. The concept of glowworm is a neighbor’s selection of worms based on the process of lubrification. For feature extraction we use discrete wavelet transform. The discrete wavelet transform function drives the features component in terms of low frequency and high frequency of facial image. The proposed algorithm simulated in MATLAB software and used a reputed facial image dataset from CSV300. Our experimental results show a better detection rate instead of the BP neural network model.

The movement of internet technology enhanced the speed and accuracy of data retrieval over the internet. The retrieval of data over the internet needs some automatic process of information extraction and query retrieval. The information extraction gives the process of the predefined structure of the concept to a particular domain of knowledge. The process of information extraction proceeds in two steps one is preprocessing of data and post-processing of data. In preprocessing of data used the concept of the glowworm optimization algorithm. The glowworm algorithm is a family of kits a gives the better selection of information in constraints of similarity. The selection of similarity based on the process of lubrification. The optimization of glowworm removed the unwanted noise of data and filtered it. For the extraction of information used ensemblebased information extraction. The ensemble-based information extraction proceeds with constraints function that function is called mapper constraints. The mapper constraints map the process of ontology with guided domain ontology. The ensemblebased information extraction process used the concept of machine learning for the binding of process. The goals of this work are the development of an OBIE for the domain of different fields of data retrieval such as news agencies, hotel industries and sports. The proposed model combines with the use of ontology, POS and language processing tools and constraintsbased mapper with domain ontology.

Des simulations numériques rapides et précises du contact élastohydrodynamique (EHD) sont recherchées pour aider au développement de produits. L'objectif de cette thèse est de proposer un modèle compact pour le problème du contact EHD en appliquant des méthodes de réduction de modèle. Dans ce but l'équation de Reynolds (non-linéaire), l'équation d'élasticité (linéaire) et l'équilibre de la charge, sont résolus dans un système d'équations unique par la méthode de Newton. La réduction s'effectue par projection sur un sous espace de faible dimension, qui repose sur des solutions du système complet. De plus, une approximation du système est effectuée, dans laquelle les matrices du système réduit sont approximées. Pour le problème du contact EHD stationnaire, un algorithme de génération automatique des modèles compacts est présenté. L'algorithme fournit des modèles réduits stables et rapides sur une région de paramètres définies. La méthode de Newton réduite est également étendue aux fluides non-newtoniens. Les résultats du modèle réduit sont en très bon accord avec ceux du système complet, malgré un temps de calcul clairement plus petit. Par ailleurs, une nouvelle formulation pour le problème de contact EHD transitoire est introduite, dans laquelle la région de calcul est adaptée à la taille du contact. Ceci permet d'obtenir des modèles réduits efficaces, en particulier pour des excitations à grandes amplitudes. Alternativement, la méthode "Trajectory-Piecewise-Linear" (TPWL) est appliquée au problème du contact EHD transitoire. Cette méthode permet une accélération du calcul conséquente<br>In today's product development process, fast and exact simulational models of complex physical problems gain in significance. The same holds for the elastohydrodynamic (EHD) contact problem. Thus, the objective of this work is to generate a compact model for the EHD contact problem by the application of model order reduction. Thereto, the EHD contact problem, consisting of the nonlinear Reynolds equation, the linear elasticity equation and the load balance, is solved as a monolithic system of equations using Newton's method. The reduction takes place by projection onto a low-dimensional subspace, which is based on solutions of the full system. Moreover, a so-called system approximation is executed at which the reduced system matrices are substituted by less complex surrogates. For the stationary EHD contact problem, an algorithm for the automated generation of the compact model is presented. This algorithm provides fast and numerically stable reduced systems on a given parameter range. Additionally, the reduced Newton method is extended to the consideration of Non-Newtonian fluids whereat highly accurate results are obtained requiring a very low computational time. Furthermore, a new formulation for the transient EHD contact problem is introduced, at which the computational area is adapted to the current contact size. This kind of morphing enables efficient reduced models in particular for excitations of large amplitude. Beside of the reduced Newton-method with system approximation, the method Trajectory Piecewise Linear (TPWL) is applied to the transient EHD contact problem. Here, further speed-up potential arises. Despite a distinctly lower computational time, the reduced model is in very good accordance with the full system

Dans ce manuscrit, nous parlons des matériaux composites à matrice céramiques (CMCs) qui sont envisagés pour intégrer les chambres de combustion de futurs moteurs aéronautiques civils. Pour faire face des conditions extrêmes, ces matériaux possèdent la particularité de s’auto-protéger vis-à-vis de l’oxydation par la formation d’un oxyde passivant qui limite la diffusion des espèces oxydantes au sein des fissures matricielles. Nous modélisons l’écoulement d’un oxyde dans une fissure par l’équation de Navier-Stokes, puis les mettons sous forme non dimensionnelles, et les dérivations de deux types de modèles sont intéressantes : les modèles de Saint-Venant et les modèles de lubrification. Ensuit nous nous engageons à chercher l’existence de solution faible de l’approximation de lubrification d’ordre 4 obtenue précédent dans le cas uni-dimensionnel. Enfin nous précisons la limite entre les équations de Saint-Venant et l’équation de lubrification<br>In this work, we are interested in the ceramic matrix composite materials(CMCs) who will be used to integrate the combustion chambers of future civil aeronautical engines. To face extreme conditions, these materials possess the peculiarity to auto-protect itself towards the oxidation by the formation of an oxide passivate which limits the distribution of the oxidizing species within the matrix cracks. We model the flow of an oxide in a crack by the Navier-Stokes equation, then put them under an asymptotic analysis in order to get two types of asymptotic models : models of Saint-Venant (Shallow water model) and lubrication models. Next we are interested in looking for the existence of weak solution to the one-dimensional approximated lubrication equation of order 4 obtained before. Finally we talk about the limit between the Saint-Venant equations and the lubrication equation

Une lubrification suffisante est essentielle au bon fonctionnement des mécanismes et/ou composants comme par exemple les paliers à roulement. Par contre, les lubrifiants contiennent souvent des débris d’usure ou des polluants extérieurs. Ces particules micrométriques peuvent pénétrer des contacts d’épaisseur inférieure au micromètre induisant des empruntes ou indents pouvant conduire à des endommagements irréversibles pour les surfaces en contact. L’objet de ce travail est l’étude du piégeage de polluants solides à l’aide de particules sphériques d’acier, d’un point de vue théorique, numérique et expérimental. Dans un premier temps, une étude phénoménologique a été proposée à l’aide d’une nouvelle méthode expérimentale basée sur la technique PIV combinée à un tribomètre bille/disque. Les trajectoires des polluants à l’entrée du contact ont pu ainsi être identifiées. En parallèle, un modèle numérique d’écoulement du lubrifiant a été développé pour permettre l’évaluation des conditions menant au piégeage ou non de particules. Finalement, des expériences sur une machine bi-disques en conditions de lubrification polluée contrôlée ont permis de valider les tendances observées pour le piégeage. Une première série de résultats a montré que le piégeage de contaminants est fortement dépendant du profil de vitesse du lubrifiant. Un taux de piégeage très hétérogène a été observé sur des contacts avec une ellipticité transverse à l’écoulement variable. De manière surprenante, malgré une augmentation de la largeur de contact, une forte diminution du nombre de particules piégées a été observée dans des contacts elliptiques. Il a été démontré que cette diminution pouvait être imputée à la présence d’importants reflux de lubrifiant dans les contacts elliptiques larges. L’étude de contacts hybrides, nitrure de silicium–acier, a montré une bonne résistance à l’indentation du nitrure de silicium. Il est à noter que les contacts hybrides présentent des niveaux de piégeage similaire à un contact tout acier<br>Contact lubrication is essential in a wide range of mechanical systems like rolling element bearings (REBs). A minimum quantity of clean lubricant all along the bearing life is necessary but difficult to ensure. In fact, lubricants contain inevitably wear debris or external particles, like dust. Carried by the lubricant in the vicinity of elastohydrodynamic (EHD) contacts, particles can be entrapped with disastrous consequences for contacting surfaces. Entrapment of micrometric particles in submicrometric contacting gaps means irreversible damages for the surfaces. Damages weaken the surfaces and reduce significantly the REBs lifetime. The goal of this work is to analyze the critical particle entrainments in the contact inlet. Entrapment of steel spherical particles was investigated from the numerical and experimental point of view. Firstly, the phenomenology of entrapment was explored with a new experimental method based on Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) technique installed on a tribometer. It enabled the evaluation of velocity profiles in the contact inlet and the tracking of particles within EHD contacts. Secondly, a numerical modelling of the inlet flow for EHD contacts, including the particle tracking, was developed. Finally, tests on a twin-disc machine with a controlled level of well-defined contamination were conducted to validate previous conclusions. A first set of results showed that particle entrapment is highly dependent on the lubricant velocity profile. Depending on contact geometry, from point to wide elliptical contacts, different entrapment probability were revealed. Surprisingly, increasing contact width with wide elliptical contacts leads to a drop of entrapped particles. It was demonstrated that this phenomenon is due to backflows occurring upstream from these contacts. Introducing a hybrid pair of contacting materials (silicon nitride–steel), dents on the surfaces due to entrapped particles were explored. It has been confirmed that silicon nitride surface offers a real ability to resist to indentation. It was also noticed that the entrapment probability for silicon nitride–steel contacts is equivalent to a steel–steel one

Un fluide viscoplastique se comporte comme un solide rigide lorsque la norme du tenseur des contraintes est faible, puis comme un fluide visqueux lorsqu’elle dépasse un certain seuil. Les modèles mathématiques correspondants sont non-différentiables et laissent le tenseur des contraintes indéterminé dans les zones rigides. On dégage deux classes de stratégies de résolution numérique : modifier la loi de comportement pour régulariser les équations, ou utiliser leur formulation variationnelle afin de se ramener à un problème de minimisation non-lisse. Dans cette thèse, on utilise la seconde approche et on compare différentes méthodes d’optimisation. On confronte d’abord la méthode du Lagrangien augmenté aux méthodes proximales de type FISTA, avec une discrétisation différences finies. On décrit alors le compromis entre vitesse et stabilité, au travers d’écoulements dans une géométrie de type expansion-contraction, exhibant des zones rigides de topologie complexe. On traite ensuite d’une méthode de point intérieur pour laquelle on décrit les calculs et la formulation complète dans le cas du modèle Herschel-Bulkley, ainsi que les difficultés pratiques liées à cette méthode. Pour finir, on s’intéresse à un modèle de lubrification viscoplastique dans une cavité fermée pour lequel les équations sont simplifiées. On introduit alors un métamodèle combinant polynômes de chaos et réduction de dimension afin de résoudre l’EDP plus rapidement. La méthode est illustrée sur l’estimation de paramètres à partir de données synthétiques et d’expériences physiques. Le code et les données permettant de reproduire et d’adapter la méthode sont mis librement à disposition des praticiens<br>A viscoplastic fluid behaves like a rigid solid when the norm of the constraint tensor is low, then like a viscous fluid when it exceeds a given threshold. The corresponding mathematical models are non-differentiable and leave the constraint tensor undetermined in the rigid zones.There exist two types of strategy for numerical resolution : modify the constitutive law in order to regularize the equations, or use their variational formulation to obtain an equivalent non-smooth minimization problem. In this thesis, the second approach is used and different optimization methods are compared. First, the augmented Lagrangian method is confronted to proximal FISTA-like methods, using finite differences. The compromise between speed and stability is described through flows in expansion-contraction geometries, exhibiting topologically complex rigid zones. Then an interior point method is described, with its complete derivation and formulation in the Herschel-Bulkley case, along with the practical difficulties of this framework. Finally, we describe a viscoplastic lubrification model in a closed cavity, for which the equations are simplified. In order to accelerate the resolution of the PDE, a metamodel combining polynomial chaos and dimension reduction is introduced. The method is illustrated with parameters' estimations on synthetic data and physical experiments. The code and data necessary to reproduce and adapt the method are publicly available for practitioners

Les contacts lubrifiés sous forte charge sont souvent étudiés dans des conditions de roulement/glissement. Dans ces cas, l’entrainement du lubrifiant dans un coin d’huile explique la présence d’un film séparateur. Cependant, il existe un certain nombre d’applications dans lesquelles les surfaces en contact ont des vitesses égales et opposées. Cela correspond à une vitesse d’entrainement (définie comme la moyenne des vitesses des deux surfaces) nulle. Dans ce cas, les modèles prédictifs de la littérature ne peuvent plus s’appliquer. Dans ce mémoire de thèse, les phénomènes physiques conduisant à une génération de film séparateur à vitesse d’entrainement nulle sont étudiés. Un modèle éléments finis prenant en compte les aspects thermiques et transitoires est mis en œuvre pour mesurer les quantités locales. En régime stationnaire, les résultats numériques sont comparés avec un très bon accord à un jeu de données issu d’une campagne d’expérimentations dédiée. Cette approche duale permet de quantifier l’influence de la charge, de la vitesse des surfaces et de la température externe sur l’épaisseur de film à vitesse d’entrainement nulle. Les contacts sont ensuite étudiés sous une charge variable, ce qui montre l’influence relative des phénomènes thermiques et transitoires pouvant générer une épaisseur de film. En fonction du ratio entre le temps caractéristique de chargement et le temps caractéristique d’échauffement, ces effets peuvent montrer une synergie bénéfique pour le contact<br>Highly loaded lubricated contacts are often studied in rolling/sliding conditions. In those cases, the entrainment of lubricant in a so-called “oil wedge” explains the existence of a separating film thickness. However, in a number of industrial applications, the contact is subjected to opposite surface velocities. In such cases, there is a Zero Entrainment Velocity (defined as the average velocity of the two surfaces) of the fluid. The film thickness prediction formulae developed in the literature for rolling contacts are unusable. In this thesis, the physical phenomena leading to a film build-up under Zero Entrainment Velocity condition are elucidated. A finite element model is used in order to facilitate in-situ measurements. It aims to describe the behaviour of the contact in thermal and transient conditions. In the stationary regime, the numerical values are compared with a very good agreement to a set of results obtained via a tailored experimental campaign. This dual approach enables a quantitative description of the influence of the contact load, surface velocities and external temperature on the film thickness under ZEV condition. Then, the relative influence of the thermal and squeeze effects is studied. Depending on the ratio between the characteristic loading time and the characteristic thermal time, these two effects can show a beneficial synergy for the contact

Dans les matériaux composites autolubrifiants, la génération de particules d’usure est nécessaire pour assurer la lubrification. Dans les roulements à billes, ce type de lubrification est possible grâce au matériau de la cage, composé d’un matériau composite autolubrifiant, tandis que le reste du roulement est fait en métal (AISI 440C). Pour les applications spatiales, le RT/Duroid 5813 est un composite autolubrifiant reconnu pour les cages de ce type de roulements. Ce matériau a été largement utilisé car il a répondu aux besoins de la lubrification sèche dans l’espace. Cependant, la production de ce matériau a été arrêtée dans les années 90. Cette situation a conduit à la recherche d’un « matériau équivalent » , répondant à la fois aux besoins du marché spatial et aux « besoins tribologiques ». Aujourd’hui, le principal inconvénient lié à ces matériaux est le manque de prévisibilité de leur comportement tribologique. Dans ce travail, une approche couplée expérimentale et numérique a été proposée afin de modéliser le comportement tribologique des matériaux composites autolubrifiants. Le modèle numérique proposé a été nourri par des caractérisations expérimentaux (comme la tomographie à rayons X pour la création de la morphologie du matériau numérique, ou la microscopie à force atomique pour informer la valeur de l’adhésion entre les composants). Le but d’une telle démarche numérique est de palier les limites d’une approche entièrement expérimentale qui ne permet pas d’observer in-situ le contact de par son caractère confiné. L’objectif du présent travail est de donner une réponse au problème de compréhension du comportement tribologique de matériaux composites autolubrifiants dans le mécanisme de double transfert. Ceci en vue de contribuer au développement d’un nouveau matériau tribologique répondant aux besoins des applications spatiales. Parmi tous les matériaux autolubrifiants, le PGM-HT a été sélectionné dans cette étude car sa morphologie grossière a permis de construire une version numérique du matériau (avec la résolution du tomographe à rayons X utilisé dans ce travail). Néanmoins, l’approche proposée ici pour construire le modèle numérique peut être étendue à d’autres matériaux composites autolubrifiants. Le modèle numérique proposé dans ces travaux ouvre de nouvelles perspectives en termes de conception de matériaux, car il permet d’étudier directement les scénarios de dégradation et d’usure des matériaux composites. D’un point de vue général, il est à noter que la tribologie numérique est un outil offrant de multiples possibilités pour la compréhension des matériaux autolubrifiants, et permet d’aider dans le processus de prédiction du comportement tribologique des matériaux autolubrifiants<br>In self-lubricating composite materials, the generation of a stable third body layer is necessary to ensure contact lubrication. This is specially true for the contact in which these materials are directly involved, and also in other contacts implicating its counterface. Such type of lubrication is possible in self-lubricating bearings thanks to its cage material, which is made of the self-lubricating composite, while the rest of the bearing is usually made of AISI 440C. For space applications, RT/Duroid 5813 is a recognized self-lubricating composite cage material for this kind of bearings. This material has been widely used not only because of the space heritage, but also because it has satisfied the needs of space dry lubrication. However, the production of this material has been stopped in the 90’s, and it has placed the latter out of the market. This situation has led to the search for an equivalent material, that meets both the needs of the space market and the "tribological needs." Today, the main inconvenient related to these materials is the lack of predictability of their tribological behaviour. In this work, the "making of" a coupled numerical-experimental approach has been proposed in order to carry out the understanding of these materials. The goal of this numerical approach is to let to "complement" the limitations of a fully experimental or a fully numerical approach (the confined nature of the contact does not allow in situ observation). Such numerical approach has been informed with experimental test (as X-ray tomography for the creation of the numerical morphology, or atomic force microscopy to inform the value of adhesion between the components). Among all the self-lubricating materials, PGM-HT has been selected in this study because its coarse morphology let to build a numerical version of the material (with the resolution of the X-ray tomograph used in this work). Nevertheless, the approach that has been proposed here to build the numerical model, can be extended to other self-lubricating composite materials. The numerical model developed in this work opens new perspectives in terms of material design, as it makes it possible to directly study the scenarios of damage and wear of self-lubricating composite materials. From a general point of view, from this work it can be highlighted that numerical tribology is a tool that offers multiple possibilities in the understanding of self-lubricating materials, and that helps in the predictionof the tribological behaviour of self-lubricating materials. This work has then let to advance in the understanding of these materials

Cette thèse est dédiée à l’étude des contacts lubrifiés tore-plan sous diverses conditions. Ces contacts se situent à l’interface entre l’extrémité torique des rouleaux et le collet de la bague dans les roulements à rouleaux. La première complexité de cette étude provient de la géométrie particulière des solides concernés. La deuxième est générée par la cinématique complexe qui règne dans ces contacts. Afin de comprendre les mécanismes physiques à l’œuvre, une approche duale (expérimentale et numérique) est adoptée. Le banc d’essai Jérotrib permet une première étude basée sur l’hypothèse que le contact élastohydrodynamique tore-plan est similaire à un contact elliptique équivalent. Grâce à une méthode d’interférométrie optique en lumière blanche qui a été adaptée aux spécificités du contact en question, des mesures précises de l’épaisseur de film ont été effectuées dans un nombre significatif de conditions. Sur cette base, un modèle numérique thermo-élastohydrodynamique a été validé avec précision. Ce dernier a permis d’étudier les écoulements de fluide à l’entrée du contact afin de mettre en évidence leur influence sur le champ d’épaisseur de film. Le modèle numérique a ensuite été amélioré afin de prendre en compte la vraie forme des solides. Il a été validé en épaisseur de film par le banc d’essai Tribogyr, dans des conditions similaires à celles rencontrées dans les vrais roulements. Il a été montré que le cisaillement du fluide est responsable de l’échauffement des solides, qui diminue par suite l’épaisseur de film : ceci souligne la nécessité de modéliser cet échauffement global pour prédire la séparation des surfaces. Par ailleurs, lors de l’étude, le champ de pression et d’épaisseur de film ont perdu leurs symétries à cause de la cinématique et de la forme des solides. Toutefois, le comportement du contact est resté similaire à celui d’un contact elliptique, en dehors de certains cas limites<br>This thesis is dedicated to the study of torus on plane contacts under various operating conditions. They can be found at the interface between the torus roller-end and the flange in roller bearings. The first challenge of this thesis is to deal with unusual mating geometries. The other challenge is the presence of a complex kinematic which operates in these contacts. In order to further develop the understanding of such a contact, a dual approach (experimental and numerical) is adopted. The Jérotrib test-rig enables a first study, by considering that the élastohydrodynamic torus on plane contact can be modelled by an elliptical equivalent contact. Thanks to a differential colorimetric interferometry method which was improved and adapted during the thesis, precise film thickness measurements are carried out under a rather wide range of operating conditions. A thermo-elastohydrodynamic numerical model is developed and validated by comparing its results to the ones of the test-rig. A numerical study on film forming is then proposed and the role of the contact ellipticity is investigated. The numerical model is improved in order to take into account the actual shape of the solids. A film thickness validation of the model is proposed, thanks to measurements performed on the Tribogyr test-rig. The operating conditions are very similar to the one encountered in actual bearings, and the mating solids have representative geometries: it is an actual torus-on-plane contact. It is demonstrated that the lubricant shearing is responsible for the solids temperature rise, which in its turn, reduces the film thickness. It appears mandatory to be able to predict this global warming of the bodies. It is also demonstrated that the pressure and film thickness distributions lose their symmetry because of the spinning kinematic and the solids shape. However, the behaviour of the torus-on-plane contact appears very similar to the one of an elliptical equivalent contact, apart from some limit cases

La maîtrise des conditions de lubrification mixte est un challenge complexe à relever puisqu'elle nécessite d'appréhender plusieurs phénomènes couplés: écoulement du fluide entre les rugosités, déformations élastoplastiques des aspérités, usure des surfaces. Le but de cette étude est de proposer une approche des phénomènes de lubrification mixte dans le contexte des paliers moteur. Le premier chapitre donne un aperçu des principales études théoriques et modélisations numériques dédiées à l'analyse du comportement des paliers. Le deuxième chapitre est dédié au phénomène d'écoulement du fluide entre deux surfaces rugueuses. En partant du modèle proposé par Patir et Cheng, une nouvelle définition des facteurs d'écoulement est proposée. Ce modèle prend en compte la direction des textures de surface. Plusieurs calculs paramétriques ont permis de définir des critères de choix pour les surfaces de calcul utilisées pour déterminer les facteurs d'écoulement. Le but de chapitre 3 est de détailler trois principaux modèles de contact existants, de les comparer afin d'extraire les avantages et les inconvénients de chaque modèle et surtout de voir leurs applications dans l'étude de la lubrification mixte des paliers de moteurs. Afin de mieux comprendre leurs limites, les modèles statistiques ont été comparés à un modèle déterministe, en éléments finis. Le chapitre 4 est dédié à l'étude de l’usure. Trois modèles d'usure basés sur la loi d'Archard sont présentés. Les différents modèles d'écoulement, de contact et d'usure sont finalement intégrés dans un programme de calcul numérique et utilisés pour prédire le comportement d'un palier de tête de bielle<br>Control of mixed lubrication conditions is a complex challenge to meet since it requires understanding of several coupled phenomena: fluid flow between rough surfaces, elasto-plastic deformation of asperities, surface wear. The goal of this study is to propose an approach of mixed lubrication conditions in the context of ICE bearings. The first part gives an overview of key theoretical and numerical modeling dedicated to the analysis of bearings in hydrodynamic and mixed conditions. The second chapter is dedicated to the phenomenon of flow between two rough surfaces. Starting from the model proposed by Cheng and Patir, a new definition of flow factors is proposed. This model takes into account the direction of surface textures. Several parametric calculations have identified selection criteria for rough surfaces used to determine the new flow factors coefficients. The purpose of Chapter 3 is to detail three existing statistical contact models of rough interface asperities. Several comparisons permit to extract the advantages and disadvantages of each model and especially to see their applications in the study of mixed lubrication in ICE bearings. To a better understanding of their limits, the statistical models were compared to a deterministic finite element model. Chapter 4 is dedicated to the study of wear. Three wear models based on Archard's law are detailed. Finally, the different flow, contact and wear models are integrated in a numerical prediction tool and used to simulate the behavior of a big-end connecting rod bearing

Cette thèse est dédiée à la mesure des pressions et des températures locales et à la comparaison de la génération de chaleur dans les contacts élastohydrodynamiques (EHD) de type tout acier et hybride (nitrure de silicium-acier). Le but ultime de ce travail est de développer une nouvelle technique in situ non-intrusive, exploitant la sensibilité de la photoluminescence (PL) des boîtes quantiques (QDs) de CdSe/CdS/ZnS aux variations de pression et température, afin de cartographier ces deux paramètres dans les contacts EHD. Dispersible à faible concentration dans les lubrifiants, il est montré que les QDs ne modifient pas le comportement rhéologique du fluide porteur et que le cisaillement n’est pas perturbateur à la réponse en PL. La calibration des QDs en suspension confirme la dépendance de la réponse en PL des QDs à la pression et à la température. Les mesures in situ sont effectuées en utilisant un banc d’essai bille-disque. La comparaison entre les mesures in situ de pression et de température et celles prédites à l'aide d'un modèle éléments finis TEHD interne montre une bonne concordance, ce qui démontre la faisabilité de la méthodologie proposée. Les effets du glissement et du chargement normal sur la pression, la température et la chaleur générée sont reportés. L’effet des propriétés thermiques des solides est souligné et la répartition de la chaleur générée entre les solides en contact est étudiée. L'équilibre énergétique entre l'énergie mécanique et l'énergie thermique interne générée par compression et cisaillement est démontré en comparant les pertes de puissance expérimentales et la chaleur générée issue du modèle numérique, pour des contacts acier-acier et hybrides<br>This thesis is dedicated to the measurement of local pressure and temperature and to compare the heat generation in all-steel and silicon nitride-steel (hybrid) elastohydrodynamic (EHD) contacts. The ultimate goal of this work is to develop a new non-intrusive in situ technique, exploiting the sensitivity of the photoluminescence (PL) of CdSe/CdS/ZnS quantum dots (QDs) to pressure and temperature. Dispersible in small concentration in lubricants, it is shown that the QDs doesn’t modify the rheological behavior of the carrier fluid and that shearing is not perturbative to the QDs PL response. The calibration of QDs in the suspension confirms the QDs PL dependence on temperature and pressure. The in situ measurements were conducted in EHD contacts using a ball-on-disc test rig. Comparisons between pressure and temperature measurements and predictions, using an in–house finite element thermal EHD model, showed a good agreement which demonstrates the feasibility of the proposed methodology. The effects of sliding and normal loading on pressure, temperature and heat generation are indicated. The effect of the thermal properties of the solid materials is underlined and the partition of the generated heat between the contacting solids is investigated. The energy equilibrium between the mechanical energy and the internal thermal energy generated by compression and shearing is demonstrated by comparing experimental power losses and numerical heat generation, in steel-steel and hybrid contacts

Les TIC et plus globalement le numérique sont le plus souvent saisis dans leur immédiateté. Comme si le numérique était voué à ce que F. Hartog a nommé le « présentisme ». Il semblerait que ces technologies soient toujours nouvelles, comme extraites de la dynamique historique, ce qui participe de L’impensé numérique. Or, elles possèdent également leurs propres dimensions temporelles, au pluriel, pour ne pas sacrifier la complexité de leur rapport au temps. Ce livre en deux tomes voudrait, sur le mode des sciences sociales et non de la philosophie, réinvestir cette question des temporalités numériques. Ce premier tome propose ainsi une histoire problématisée des TIC, comme archéologie du numérique, qui lie histoire et concepts au lieu de les séparer. Parce qu’il faut historiciser les concepts pour mieux en tester la pertinence et voir s’ils tiennent dans le temps. Parce qu’il faut équiper de concepts cette histoire qui ne peut pas être restituée sans que les enjeux politiques des TIC et du numérique ne soient clairement discernés. D’où cette Dynamique des TIC qui présente une véritable grille de lecture pédagogique de l’histoire des TIC et du numérique depuis la fin du XVIIIe siècle. Elle en dégage les grandes lignes de force (la tension entre l’état et le marché, la montée en puissance du grand nombre, la multiplication de l’espace, la densification et l’accélération temporelle, l’omniprésence de la logistique informationnelle) et les trois grandes phases (de lubrification, d’installation et de domination). Histoire mondiale. Histoire politique. Histoire économico-gestionnaire aussi. Histoire, en définitive, du processus que j’ai nommé la « gestionnarisation » de la société. Le livre qu’on va lire a été rédigé pour l’essentiel voilà 25 ans. Victime de l’impensé à l’époque, il n’était pas question de le réécrire, ce qui l’aurait fait disparaître. Une postface revient en détail sur la manière dont son système conceptuel permet d’éclairer encore aujourd’hui, avec efficacité, l’actualité économique et politique du numérique. Et c’est bien tel qu’il est, synthèse historique et témoin d’une histoire tout à la fois, qu’il peut oeuvrer à lutter contre cet impensé en participant à l’installation d’une culture historique des enjeux politiques et économico-gestionnaires du numérique.
