Abstract:
This article, drawing on recent research on Language Other than English (LOTE) programs in China’s universities, examines the impact of multilingual education policy on the professional development of LOTE teachers. We argue for the mediating roles of LOTE programs as they carry the influence of education policy on teacher development. In other words, LOTE programs may influence the way in which education policy impacts teacher development. Specifically, LOTE programs seem to play three mediating roles: (1) How education policy is perceived and understood by the program designer or/and coordinator impacts how LOTE teachers who engage in the program are influenced, (2) how educational resources are allocated to teachers teaching in the LOTE program impacts teachers’ professional development, (3) how teachers actually position themselves in the LOTE program as opposed to their identities positioned by education policy and the university administration impacts their professional development. In a word, the influence of multilingual education policy on the professional development of LOTE teachers may be mediated by such meso- and micro-level factors as administration, resource, and identity work.

Abstract:
This paper explores Chinese universities’ policies related to the research performance review of language other than English (LOTE) teachers with respect to promotion. Drawing on a variety of data including policy documents and interviews with 32 individual LOTE teachers from 16 universities, we identified that Chinese universities have unreasonable expectations in terms of research publications and research funding for language teachers, including LOTE teachers, which make their career prospects unsustainable. We also evaluated the contextual realities for LOTE teachers regarding academic publication and research funding, and identified a widespread feeling of anxiety and stress among LOTE teachers. Though LOTE teachers are committed to undertaking various efforts to overcome challenges in their research performance review for promotion, we call on university management and policy makers to provide additional support to LOTE teachers, so that they can develop sustainable careers and universities, including Chinese universities, will be able to rely on sustainable multilingualism.

Abstract:
Las pasturas naturales del nordeste argentino adolecen de deficiencias nutricionales estacionales. El objetivo del ensayo fue verificar los efectos de un compuesto inyectable de minerales, vitaminas y proteínas en novillos Braford de 18 meses de edad (160-200 kg de peso). Se conformaron 3 lotes de 10 animales cada uno. El lote 1 recibió 3 aplicaciones de 10 ml del compuesto vía SC cada 22 días y el lote 2 igual dosis cada 32 días. El lote 3 operó como testigo. Al cabo de 96 días se registraron ganancias de peso de 53,9 kg (lote 1), 44,8 kg (lote 2) y 36,4 kg (lote 3), sin registrarse efectos secundarios adversos. El compuesto ensayado reveló mayor eficacia a la dosis de 10 ml cada 22 días.

Abstract:
With the increasing global status of China’s economy, languages other than English education (LOTE) in China has experienced an unprecedented expansion size. The importance of offering language programs is particularly relevant and geographically significant in China’s border provinces. Yunnan, China’s Southwest border province, has been discursively positioned as an ideal space for cultivating South Asian and Southeast Asian language learners for China’s cross-cultural communication. However, while majoring in LOTE, Chinese students have to prove their proficiency in English both for academic attainment and employment prospect. This study examines how English is ideologically embedded in the learning process of LOTE learners in the context of China’s socioeconomic transformation and regional integration with its neighbouring countries. Adopting the concept of language, investment and ideology (Darvin & Norton, 2015), the study explores the English learning experiences of Chinese undergraduates majoring in LOTE in a Chinese border university in Yunnan. Findings reveal how LOTE learners attach great importance on English and see English as a symbolic capital which can be translated into academic credits and facilite their future educational and social mobility. Findings also demonstrate that LOTE learners take advantage of their learning strategies in English and transfer their learning strategies into their LOTE learning process. Based on the findings of the study, it is argued that LOTE students can be empowered to enhance their language proficiency by LOTE in the process of investment learning English and their investment can help them acquire additional multilingual ability and multiple identities. The study can prove pedagogical implications for curriculum of LOTE.

This study aims to investigate the LOTE learning motivation profiles of adult learners at a multilingual workplace and the interplay of multilevel factors affecting LOTE learning motivation. To address the research objectives, we undertook this case study on a Spanish bank subsidiary in China by conducting semi-structured interviews with three senior managers at varying LOTE language proficiency levels. Premised on a person-in-context relational perspective, interview data analysis revealed the participants LOTE motivation change trajectories resulting from the dynamic interplay of related factors. Further analysis of the narratives identified the interplay between key contextual and individual factors affecting the participants’ LOTE learning motivation at different levels, namely social cultural and institutional. The results emphasise the person-in-institutional context relation and the significance of team climate, language beliefs and identity in influencing LOTE learning motivation

Abstract:
Con el propósito de contribuir con la labranza de conservación de suelos en ladera se emplearon tecnologías fundamentadas en la minimización del movimiento de suelo y en el establecimiento de coberturas y fertilización orgánica con abonos verdes. Se estableció el sistema de rotación abono verde- papa- abono verde, utilizando semilla de papa “parda pastusa” y 9 tipos de abonos verdes evaluándose las propiedades físicas, químicas y microbiológicas del suelo. El sistema propuesto mejoró la densidad aparente, porosidad, estabilidad estructural e infiltración del suelo; donde se destacó en densidad aparente el lote HB14 que pasó de 1.14 a 1.06 Mg/m3 y el lote PC19 de 0,84 Mg/m3 a 0.8 Mg/m3. Respecto a la porosidad el lote HB14 tuvo un valor inicial de 49.33% y final de 52.72% y en el lote PC19 un valor inicial de 57.22% y final de 59.27%. El diámetro ponderado medio destacado fue del lote HB8 pasando de 0.929 mm a 2.014 mm y el lote PC1 con un valor inicial de 1.48 mm y final de 2.25 mm. La infiltración más notoria fue para el lote HB2 con valor inicial de 22.57 cm/h y final de 138.07 cm/h y PC1 con valor inicial de 18.62 cm/h y final de 63.21 cm/h.

Abstract:
This paper conceptually discusses why it is essential to foster intercultural responsiveness through learning a language other than English (LOTE) and developing intercultural communication competence at Australian universities. Learning a LOTE is meaningful and helps second language learners develop social skills and cognitive competence, understand the linguistic system of the LOTEs, and sense differences between their home language/culture and target language/culture, and then pave the way to developing intercultural communication competence. However, a LOTE as a compulsory unit has little presence in Australian university curricula. No Australian universities require that students need to learn a LOTE to meet the course requirements. Learning a LOTE is conducive to both bilingual/multilingual and intercultural communication competence development. Furthermore, most current work studies intercultural verbal communication competence more than intercultural nonverbal communication competence. While intercultural verbal communication is audio-oriented, voiced, and externalized with open messages, intercultural nonverbal communication is visually oriented, silent, and internalized with hidden cues. Only when both components are considered can people achieve effective intercultural communication. The implications for learning a LOTE and developing intercultural communication competence are discussed.

Abstract:
This study draws on the model of language learning investment to explore China’s LOTE (Languages Other than English) students’ learning motivation. Data collected through in-depth interviews with 35 university students were analyzed in an inductive way. The findings show that: (1) the participants invested in learning LOTEs because they had enough affordances (resources applicable to LOTE learning) and/or perceived target language-related benefits (economic, cultural or social ones) from LOTE learning, even though most of our participants were initially involuntary applicants; (2) students were reluctant to invest in learning their target language(s) and merely strove to fulfil their program(s) when they were lacking affordances, perceiving few benefits, or even devalued by the in-context ideologies. These findings provide important implications for LOTE educators to motivate their students, and for policy makers to improve China’s LOTE education.

Este informe da cuenta de la validación concurrente del proceso lote sobre lote, en máquinas envasadoras con sistema Blow Fill & Seal (BFS). El trabajo fue desarrollado en planta de producción de Laboratorio Fresenius Kabi. Las áreas involucradas en este trabajo son Producción, Control de Calidad y Aseguramiento de Calidad. El proceso lote sobre lote tiene como objetivo no detener las máquinas envasadoras durante los cambios de lote, aumentando la eficiencia y eliminando los desperdicios que implica. El objetivo de esta actividad es validar el proceso lote sobre lote en las 3 máquinas envasadoras, y se pretende demostrar que el producto envasado en proceso lote sobre lote no sufre modificaciones fisicoquímicas ni riesgo microbiológico, cumpliendo con las especificaciones de calidad establecidas. La validación del proceso se realizó en 3 máquinas por separado, identificadas como BottelPack 360-094, Weiler 640-034 y Weiler 603-041. En todas ellas, la validación se llevó a cabo en 3 lotes consecutivos acorde al protocolo de validación, en los que se esperaban resultados conforme a las especificaciones y objetivos establecidos. Previamente se realizó un análisis de riesgo donde participaron todas las áreas involucradas con el proceso, y se realizaron las acciones preventivas acordadas. Previo a la validación se capacitaron a todos los operadores involucrados en los tres turnos de producción, con el fin de asegurar la calidad del producto y el cumplimiento de GMP; se realizaron reuniones informativas e instancias de consultas para minimizar la posibilidad de algún error y así asegurar el correcto cumplimiento de esta validación. Con las actividades realizadas se demostró que el producto no sufre alteraciones fisicoquímicas, que no existe riesgo microbiológico y por ende se da por validado el proceso lote sobre lote en máquinas BFS

Esta Reserva Nacional comparte parte del área con el Lote 88 del que se extrae el gas de Camisea repercutiendo en la vida cotidiana de dicho grupo. Los autores buscan plasmar a través de varios artículos y un ensayo fotográico las costumbres y desafíos que afrontan los miembros de este grupo. Al mismo tiempo, al representar fotográicamente a estas personas los autores buscan evidenciar la exis- tencia de estos pueblos e incluso darles una identidad presentándolos con una foto carnet, que muchas veces son invisibilizados en el discurso político nacional que los percibe como un mero obstáculo para el desarrollo; “Y contra el petróleo han creado la igura del nativo selvático 'no conectado'; es decir, desconocido pero presumible, por lo que millones de hectáreas no deben ser exploradas y el petróleo peruano debe quedarse bajo tierra mientras se paga en el mundo US $90 por cada barril” (A. García, 2007). Así el territorio amazónico es presentado por el discurso capitalista como un área inhabitada que debe ser utilizada para fomentar el desarrollo del país, ignorando a las personas que viven ahí.

Infelizmente os problemas relativos a recursos hídricos, conseqüentes do crescimento urbano desordenado têm ocupado, com uma freqüência cada vez maior, a manchete dos noticiários. A impermeabilização das superfícies vem provocando o aumento das enchentes nas cidades, e a população é a principal vítima de suas ações. Para contornar os problemas relativos aos alagamentos de uma maneira sustentável, o enfoque adotado é a solução dos problemas o mais próximo possível de sua origem. Uma medida sugerida é o controle das vazões na saída dos lotes, através de microrreservatórios de detenção. No entanto, pouco se sabe sobre a ação distribuída dos microrreservatórios na bacia. A partir da constatação desta falta de informação, este trabalho buscou avaliar o efeito do controle na fonte, através da utilização do microrreservatório de lote, sobre a macrodrenagem urbana. Para isso, optou-se pela montagem de uma bacia hipotética, cujas superfícies de escoamento foram representadas em detalhe (telhado, calçada, rua, jardim, microrreservatório, etc.), e através de simulações numéricas avaliou-se o impacto com a utilização dos microrreservatórios. Foram dimensionados microrreservatórios para várias combinações de TRs e vazões de descarga, e testados na bacia. Foi possível obter níveis de eficiência na bacia na ordem de 50 a 70%, de acordo com a vazão na saída dos lotes, e verificou-se que ao fixar até 3 vezes a vazão de pré-urbanização na saída do lote é possível obter uma eficiência da mesma ordem daquela obtida ao controlar a vazão de pré-urbanização. A vantagem obtida ao permitir maiores vazões na saída dos lotes é o aumento do diâmetro do descarregador de fundo, que para as vazões menores resultaram muito pequenos, e possivelmente inviáveis em uma situação real. Uma análise econômica foi realizada, a partir dos critérios de dimensionamento usados para os microrreservatórios e redes de drenagem, na tentativa de encontrar evidências indicando uma alternativa de projeto eficiente e ao mesmo tempo econômica. A análise mostrou que o custo global (microrreservatórios + redes) pode ser, em alguns casos, maior que o custo de implantação de uma rede de drenagem sem microrreservatórios. No entanto, para as vazões de restrição maiores (3 a 5 vezes a vazão de pré-urbanização) a diferença diminuiu. Portanto, desde que haja capacidade na rede coletora, a utilização de vazões de restrição em torno de 3 vezes a vazão de préurbanização parece ser a alternativa mais adequada.

Métodos de agrupamento (clustering) visam organizar um conjunto de itens em grupos de tal forma que itens de um dado grupo possuam alto grau de similaridade, enquanto itens em grupos diferentes possuam alto grau de dissimilaridade. A busca por métodos que realizem essa tarefa de forma satisfatória se justifica na grande variedade de aplicações possíveis para a análise de agrupamentos, em campos como processamento de imagens, mineração de dados, ciências sociais, medicina, dentre outros. Este trabalho tem por objetivo a introdução de duas novas técnicas para a realização da tarefa de formação de agrupamentos. As abordagens propostas são algoritmos de mapas autoorganizáveis por lote baseados em distâncias adaptativas: o algoritmo de mapa autoorganizável por lote baseado em distâncias adaptativas globais (GWBSOM) e o algoritmo de mapa auto-organizável por lote baseado em distâncias adaptativas locais (LWBSOM). O mapa auto-organizável (Self-Organizing Map, ou SOM) é uma rede neural artificial não-supervisionada de aprendizado competitivo que possui propriedades de agrupamento e de redução da dimensionalidade, usando uma função de vizinhança para descobrir a estrutura topológica escondida no conjunto de dados. Os testes realizados, tanto com bases de dados reais quanto com bases de dados sintéticos, demonstraram a efetividade dos métodos propostos em relação às abordagens existentes na literatura.

Aufgrund ökologischer Bedenken ist die Verwendung von bleihaltigen Werkstoffen in der Elektro- und Elektronikindustrie ab 2006 verboten. Ag-Cu-Sn Legierungen gelten dabei als möglicher Ersatz für das herkömmliche Lötzinn (Pb-Sn). Ziel dieser Arbeit ist es, die Nahordnung in den Legierungsschmelzen mittels Röntgen- und Neutronendiffraktion zu untersuchen. Desweiteren wird die Oberflächenspannung im Legierungssystem gemessen und mit Modellrechnungen verglichen.

This study aims to explore Australian primary school students’ attitudes towards learning Chinese as a LOTE (Language Other Than English). It is a case study of students who are learning Chinese in two Queensland primary schools (one public and one private) where Chinese is a compulsory course. Using a mixed-method approach, this study focuses on students’ attitudes to learning Chinese. As the Chinese language is becoming increasingly popular in Australian schools, it is essential to understand how students feel about learning the language and what their learning needs are. Knowing students’ language attitudes may also help language teachers to design more appropriate curricula and pedagogical practices to assist students with improving their Chinese language proficiency. Because most primary school children are beginning learners in LOTE Chinese, this study aimed to investigate students’ attitudes towards exploring the new language and culture at a young age. This study focuses on the following research questions: 1) What are students’ attitudes to learning Chinese in Australian primary schools where Chinese is a compulsory course? 2) What are the factors that affect students’ attitudes to learning Chinese? 3) How do different experiences of Chinese curriculum and pedagogy affect students’ attitudes towards Chinese language learning? From an investigation into these research questions, the study’s outcomes include a detailed understanding of students’ attitudes to learning Chinese as a second language. After analysing and comparing the data of the two schools, the main finding is that there was a big difference between the public school and the private school regarding resources, teaching methods and support from within the schools. All these factors influence students’ interest and attitudes towards learning Chinese language, and the findings have practical implications for future Chinese teaching and learning.

Na prática, é por intermédio da aprovação pontual de loteamentos, sob a legislação federal de parcelamento do solo urbano (L.F. 6.766/79), que nossas cidades tem sido constituídas nas últimas duas décadas. É também neste período que a busca do desenvolvimento sustentável tem incorporado os centros urbanos e pautado - mesmo que teoricamente - os objetivos das agendas municipais, sejam por parte do poder público, do capital privado ou da sociedade civil. Diante disto, o objetivo principal deste trabalho é analisar os vínculos entre a degradação ambiental urbana e a produção do parcelamento do solo. Para tanto, a partir da revisão bibliográfica sobre o conceito de desenvolvimento sustentável, com enfoque aos autores que versam sobre a realidade das cidades brasileiras, foi elaborado um quadro de \"cenários de insustentabilidade ambiental urbana\". Adotando como estudo de caso a evolução urbana do município de Jaú, foram construídos o histórico de processos de abertura de loteamentos e diversos mapas temáticos que subsidiaram a discussão junto aos cenários de insustentabilidade propostos. Por fim, conclui-se que o processo de parcelamento do solo urbano pode revelar uma dinâmica que produz e reafirma a insustentabilidade ambiental de nossas cidades, com a convivência do poder público, a atuação do mercado imobiliário e as limitações do aparato legal.
The process of urban sprawl in the greater part of Brazilian cities has occurred in the absence of environmental and urban planning instruments. In practice, the urban growth of our cities during the last two decades has been guided only by the regulations for approval of urban subdivision as determined by the federal legislation on urban land subdivision (L.F. 6.766/79). During this period, the effort towards sustainable development has also been incorporated by urban centers, if only on a theoretical level, as an objective in municipal agendas through the behest of government, private capital, or public interests. In view of this, the principal objective of this study is to analyze the relationships between the degradation of the urban environment and the production of urban land subdivision. For this reason, a bibliographic review of the literature on the concept of sustainable development, focusing on authors whose works discuss the reality of Brazilian cities, as well as non-sustainable urban environment scenarios are included. A case study of the urban evolution of the municipality of Jaú, including the history of the initiation of subdivision processes, several thematic maps and non-sustainable land development proposal scenarios are included in the discussion. Finally, this study concludes that the process of urban land subdivision can reveal a dynamic which not only produces but confirms the non-sustainability of our cities\' environments, attributed to the collusion between government power, the real estate market and the limitation of the legal apparatus.

A reflexão histórica sobre a cidade na modernidade expõe o plano como manifestação recorrente da história do poder. A partir do reconhecimento de que as cidades devem ser compreendidas historicamente como partes integrantes de sociedades mais abrangentes, é possível discutir a importância da vida urbana para os diferentes fenômenos sociais. A arquitetura do tecido urbano sugere a multiplicação de um repertório onde diferenciados projetos subordinam-se a lógica do plano da cidade. O estudo proposto nesta dissertação analisa o Plano Piloto apresentado para a nova capital do Brasil (Brasília) sob o ponto de vista da relação social de propriedade em sua dupla dimensão, social e espacial. São analisadas as relações estabelecidas entre o lote urbano e o conceito de propriedade nas superquadras do Plano Piloto de Brasília, sendo especificamente inquirida a natureza das Projeções. A análise teórica do Plano Piloto não se resume às palavras ditas no memorial descritivo do arquiteto e urbanista ou nas normas e regulamentações pertinentes, mas inclui a análise dos desenhos apresentados pelo autor, ou melhor, planos. São tomados os planos não como mera ilustração, pois desempenham papel protagonista num projeto de arquitetura ou de urbanismo. _______________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACT
Historical reflections about cities in modern ages expose planning as a recurring manifestation of power. Once cities are recognized as part of broader societies the discussion on the importance of city life to other different social phenomenon is raised up. Arquitecture of the urban tissue suggests the multiplication of a repertoir in which different plans are subordinated to the logic of the citie´s plan. This study propposal is to analyse the Pilot Plan of the New Capital of Brazil (Brasília) under the double dimension of property´s social relations, social and spacial. The exhisting connections between urban lot and the concept of property are analysed in the Superquadras of the Pilot Plan of Brasilia, specially the nature of the Projections. The theoretical analysis of the Pilot Plan goes beyond the words from it´s descriptive memmorial and the applicable regulations and laws. It includes the analysis of the author´s presented designs, taken not as mere illustrations. They are understood as essencial parts of an architectural or urban plann.

Abstract:
This paper stems from the 2023 CorpusCALL SIG Symposium on Data-Driven Learning (DDL) for Languages Other Than English (LOTE). Three monographs on DDL for LOTE were presented and are briefly illustrated in this paper (Forti, 2023; Vyatkina, 2024; Schaeffer-Lacroix, 2019). Despite the growth of DDL in second language (L2) research and education in many languages, its focus has largely been on English. As a result, the knowledge about the applicability of DDL for learning LOTE remains limited. This hinders the validity and generalizability of DDL as a whole, and conceals the important implications related to bridging the research vs. practice gap in such contexts where the focus is on LOTEs. The monographs introduced in this paper demonstrate the relevance of DDL for learning LOTEs by discussing corpus-based resources, pedagogical applications, and empirical research from three perspectives.

Modelos matemáticos são imprescindíveis para uma atividade rural que busca precisão em sua produção. O objetivo desta pesquisa foi ajustar equações matemáticas para estimar o crescimento de tilápias do Nilo em provas de desempenho para progênies. Para modelar o crescimento em peso corporal (g) em função do tempo (dias) da criação das tilápias após a fase da reversão sexual (idade?), foram avaliados 100 animais por caixa de alvenaria com volume útil de 3,0 x 1,0 x 0,80 m, sendo duas repetições para cada lote oriundo da reprodução. Cada lote foi representado pela coleta de larvas. Foram realizadas duas coletas sequentes e dois lotes de formas jovens formados (idade?). Os animais foram alimentados quatro vezes ao dia com ração em pó com 55% de proteína bruta durante todo período experimental de cada lote e grupo. Biometrias de 100 % dos animais foram realizadas em média a cada sete dias para peso vivo em balança de precisão (0,0001 g). Os conjuntos de dados obtidos nas biometrias dos alevinos de tilápia do Nilo para peso vivo (g) em relação ao tempo em dias e o conjunto de dados de taxa de crescimento especifico (%/dia) em função do tempo em dias foram submetidos à análise de regressão exponencial, logarítmica, polinomial e de potência. Os alevinos do primeiro lote apresentaram curvas de crescimento polinomial de segundo grau, entretanto, para os alevinos do segundo lote, as curvas se adequaram a equação de potência. Curvas para taxa de crescimento especifico adequaram a equação polinomial de segundo grau para todos os lotes e suas respectivas repetições.

Abstract:
O vigor das sementes é um dos principais atributos da qualidade fisiológica a ser considerado na implantação de uma cultura. Para promover melhor vigor de sementes, tratamentos pré-semeadura, denominados priming, podem ser utilizados. Esses tratamentos, geralmente, são demorados e apresentam altos custos de aplicação. O ultrassom, no entanto, aparece como um potencial priming, por ser de fácil e rápida aplicação. Assim, propomos avaliar o potencial do ultrassom como um tratamento pré-semeadura capaz de recuperar o vigor de lotes de sementes cultiváveis. Para tanto, lotes de sementes de algodão (Gossypium hirsutum), feijão (Phaseolus vulgaris) e sorgo (Sorghum bicolor) foram caracterizados quanto ao teor de água, condutividade elétrica, percentual de germinação (primeira contagem e contagem final) e comprimento das partes das plântulas (radícula, hipocótilo e cotilédone). Amostras dos lotes caraterizados foram imersas em 100 mL de água destilada e submetidas a um pulso ultrassônico único (10 seg). Três potencias ultrassônicos (20, 40 e 60W) foram testados. Cada potencial representou um tratamento. Após o priming, as sementes foram colocadas para germinar sob as mesmas condições da caracterização (condição controle). Medidas de percentual de germinação e comprimento de plântulas foram obtidas e comparadas com a condição controle. A primeira contagem da germinação para os lotes aumentou à medida que se aumentou o potencial do ultrassom, com exceção do lote de sementes de feijão. Para esse, não houve aumento significativo (p≤0,05) para esse fator. Já a contagem final da germinação teve aumento significativo apenas para o lote de sementes de algodão. O comprimento do hipocótilo e do cotilédone dos lotes de algodão e sorgo foram significativamente reduzidos pelos tratamentos. Não foi observada variação significativa para o comprimento de radículas desses lotes. Para o lote de feijão, todos os tratamentos proporcionaram variação do comprimento para as partes das plântulas, sendo significativo o aumento da radícula e do hipocótilo nos tratamentos com 60 e 20W, respectivamente. Assim, nota-se que o ultrassom, nas condições estudadas, foi capaz de alterar a qualidade fisiológica das sementes dos lotes selecionados, podendo ser uma promissora ferramenta para a biotecnologia vegetal aplicada a recuperação de vigor de sementes cultiváveis de interesse comercial.

Introdução: A soja (Glycine max) é uma cultura de relevância para a alimentação humana e animal devido aos elevados teores de proteína e óleo presente em seus grãos. Possui importância no cenário econômico sendo a principal cultura agrícola do Brasil, o país também se destaca a nível mundial em sua produção e exportação. No entanto para se obter sucesso na produção é crucial um estabelecimento de estande adequado e para isso é necessário a utilização de sementes com qualidade fisiológica, e muito se discute se a dimensão das sementes classificadas em diferentes peneiras comerciais influência nos níveis de viabilidade e vigor. O objetivo deste estudo foi verificar a influência de diferentes peneiras comerciais, ou seja, diferentes tamanhos de sementes na qualidade fisiológica de sementes de soja. Materiais e métodos: O experimento foi conduzido no Laboratório de análise de sementes em Londrina-PR, foram utilizados quatro lotes de sementes de soja que sendo submetidos incialmente ao teste de retenção de peneiras para segregação das sementes em função de sua dimensão, para isso contou-se com auxílio de um jogo de peneiras de laboratório. Foram selecionadas duas peneiras onde estava retido a maior quantidade de sementes de cada lote, totalizando oito tratamentos. Aplicou-se as metodologias de teste de germinação em rolos de papel e de comprimento de plântulas, conforme recomendação para a cultura. O experimento seguiu o delineamento inteiramente casualizado. Resultados: Os resultados do teste de germinação demonstraram não haver diferença estatística nos dados de viabilidade em função das diferenças de tamanho das sementes dentro de cada lote, apenas diferença entre os lotes, sendo que a dimensão da semente estivesse atrelada, ele foi verificado nos dados obtidos no teste de comprimento de plântula. Conclusão: Concluiu-se que nas condições nas quais foi desenvolvido o presente experimento a qualidade fisiológica de sementes de soja não é influenciada significativamente pela dimensão (peneiras comerciais).

Abstract:
Belize is paying a lot for education but getting little. More youth are outside the school system than in it and many fail to make the transition to the workforce. More and more youth drop out of school and become involved in gang activities. Action is needed if Belize is not to lose a whole generation of youth. This document discusses the current situation of the Belizean education sector and its progress over the last 10 years, its relative performance compared with other countries in the region, and the policies currently being implemented by the education sector in Belize. While the challenges are great, the recommendation is to focus on increased efficiency, quality and equity. To this end, the note discusses policy options that seek to improve educational outcomes with the same or fewer resources.
