No Protágoras, há uma passagem intrigante. Depois de pedir a Protágoras para evitar longos discursos (334d), por supostamente ter curta memória, Sócrates responde ao sofista em um longo discurso sobre um poema de Simônides, do qual Protágoras citara duas sentenças. Desse modo, Sócrates se revela não só possuidor de excelente memória, uma vez que apresenta várias outras sequências do poema, como também um perito na interpretação de poesia. Nesse longo discurso, também, ele se refere à sofística na Lacedemônia como equivalente à filosofia (342b). Essa passagem, como se propõe, fornece algumas chaves de leitura para as relações entre sofística e poesia, por um lado, e entre poesia e filosofia, por outro. Pode-se observar aqui o uso da ironia não só por parte de Sócrates como também por parte de Platão.

No diálogo Sofista, Platão, por meio do Estrangeiro de Eleia, estabelece como procedimento essencial para a busca do conhecimento o Método de Divisões (diairesis). Devido às particularidades do procedimento – multiplicidade de definições de um mesmo objeto –, há muitas críticas sobre a suficiência e validade do método. Algumas questões podem ficar em aberto como, por exemplo: por que tantas divisões? Uma divisão é mais importante, mais completa do que outra? As várias definições do sofista indicam uma errância do Estrangeiro? Do ponto de vista metodológico, em que elas se diferenciam? E, além disso, em que esse método se distingue do apresentado no Fedro, e em outros diálogos de maturidade? Ao longo do texto, apresentaremos algumas considerações em defesa da diairesis como método dialético e necessário para o bom desenvolvimento tanto do diálogo quanto da busca pelo conhecimento. Para isso, precisamos analisar as divisões e as definições apresentadas pelo próprio Platão, em busca de apresentar a diairesis como representante da dialética, e traçamos algumas considerações acerca da defesa deste método como um método válido e suficiente (dialeticamente).

Este texto propõe uma reflexão sobre as noções clássicas de sentido próprio e de sentido figurado, com base em princípios e conceitos apresentados por Ferdinand de Saussure, no Curso de linguística geral e nos Escritos de linguística geral, e por Oswald Ducrot, a propósito da postulação da tese de que a argumentação está na língua. Dentre os conceitos saussurianos mais importantes para as reflexões feitas ao longo deste texto, destacam-se os de arbitrário, de relação e de valor. Ganha o acento este último conceito da teoria de Saussure, visto que é baseado nele e na noção de alteridade apresentada por Platão, em O Sofista, que Ducrot rejeita a existência de um aspecto objetivo na linguagem e une os aspectos subjetivo e intersubjetivo ‒ constitutivos do sentido de enunciados ‒ no que chamou de valor argumentativo. Mantendo-se, portanto, fiel ao modo saussuriano de olhar para a linguagem, Ducrot construiu a Teoria da Argumentação na Língua ‒ « L'Argumentation Dans la Langue » ‒ e defende, até o momento atual da teoria, a hipótese que rejeita a distinção dos tradicionalmente chamados sentidos denotativo e conotativo.

<p class="PargrafoPUC">Como Foucault pretende resgatar a exterioridade do discurso e reabilitar um lugar para os sofistas na história do <em>lógos</em>? Ao longo texto, encaminhamos uma resposta a essa questão. Além disso, sugestões paralelas colaboram para uma compreensão mais ampla da linguagem, capaz de salientar aspectos micropolíticos, estratégicos e retóricos, preteridos por certa tradição de reflexão filosófica. Trabalhamos aqui com textos posteriores a <em>A</em> <em>Arqueologia do Saber</em>. Agregamos perspectivas diversas que reforcem o caráter linguístico do trabalho dos sofistas. Isso nos ajuda a perceber melhor o resgate do que Foucault chama de exterioridade do discurso, essa face na qual o que se diz, por sua força, ganha materialidade própria. Discuti-la parece-nos crucial para entender como emergem os traços da diferença na reflexão sobre o discurso, sobre os efeitos da materialidade nas interlocuções, levando-nos a uma reconsideração do lugar da polêmica, da disputa, enfim, de características preteridas em nome da refutação pela filosofia da linguagem tradicional.</p>

O escritor e jornalista paulista Raduan Nassar publica Lavoura arcaica em 1975, durante a ditadura militar. Esse romance, frequentemente descrito como uma versão da parábola bíblica do filho pródigo, põe em cena o universo de uma família organizada em torno da ordem paterna, de valores austeros baseados no trabalho e na disciplina. Longe dos estereótipos de uma suposta “literatura engajada”, Lavoura arcaica trata do questionamento tanto das relações de força quanto de uma ordem imposta, que pode ser desmascarada graças ao estudo das técnicas retóricas utilizadas pelas personagens. Com efeito, se o leitor implicar-se em identificar as estratégias de manipulação através da arte oratória, ele conseguirá evitar as eventuais armadilhas que elas podem criar, seja nesse romance ou em outros textos e discursos. Tal incitação à reflexão própria e à insubmissão a uma ordem arbitrária permanece atual, trinta anos após a primeira edição de Lavoura arcaica.

Em 1913, Jacques Zeiller se perguntava “se os livros de Mme. De Ségur são feitos para desenvolver nas crianças um sentido exato da vida social atual. ” Após mais de um século das palavras deste estudioso da obra da condessa, alguns de seus livros ainda sobrevivem, inclusive fora da França. No Brasil as primeiras traduções de seu primeiro grande sucesso, Les malheurs de Sophie, existem desde fins do século XIX e são portuguesas. A primeira edição brasileira dos “Desastres de Sofia” é da Editora do Brasil na década de 1950, mas talvez a mais conhecida, ou reconhecida, seja a tradução e adaptação do escritor Herberto Sales –Sofia, a desastrada-, na década de 70, pela Edições de Ouro. Por meio de comparações entre essas três edições poderemos perceber, em parte, como a obra da “condessa” sobreviveu ao longo do século XX em suas traduções brasileiras.

La novela griega antigua no estuvo desligada de las tendencias literarias de su época, como la Segunda Sofística, con una constante tendencia hacía la innovación. Los sofistas frecuentemente declaraban la “novedad” de su obra, lo mismo que la novela, la cual, por ser una narrativa de ficción, buscaba entretener al lector incluyendo en su trama hechos de carácter maravilloso o increíble. Al analizar las novelas griegas, podemos observar cómo cada uno de los autores intentaban sobresalir mediante una serie de sucesos extraordinarios que incluye en su obra. En este artículo consideraré las novelas de Longo, Jenofonte de Éfeso y Caritón, que narran acontecimientos o situaciones extraordinarios en el desarrollo de la trama, buscando atraer la atención de su público. Mediante el análisis de un vocabulario específico, relacionado con lo maravilloso (parádoxon), sorprendente (kainón) o increíble (ápiston), encontraremos que Caritón, quien es el autor que menos acontecimientos extraordinarios ofrece, califica ciertos hechos como tales.

Embora o Teeteto nos coloque num cenário interpretativo completamente à parte da teoria das Formas, não nos é permitido admitir seu total esquecimento. Conceitos como ‘racionalidade’ contraposto à percepção sensível, e a ‘imprescindibilidade do logos’ enquanto discurso que perfaz o conhecimento verdadeiro, são extremamente caros ao Teeteto. Desconsiderar a pertinência e a similaridade do significado destes conceitos desde a maturidade até à velhice, colocar-nos-ia em situação de grande dificuldade explicativa acerca do conhecimento. Assim, é importante destacar que optamos por uma perspectiva intermediária, que por um lado reconhece a ausência de uma argumentação calcada na clássica teoria das Ideias, mas que compreende a obra platônica sob a tutela de uma interpretação sistemática e holística, segundo a qual Platão não abandona os pressupostos metafísicos das Formas inteligíveis. Longe de uma ruptura com o que foi dito anteriormente na maturidade, o Teeteto serve como complementação teórica acerca da ontologia e da epistemologia, embora no Teeteto não haja uma menção direta às noções presentes nos diálogos anteriores e boa parte do tema se apresente por meio de estilo de escrita e vocabulário inusitados. Por fim, mas não menos importante, será feita uma breve análise de alguns trechos dos momentos finais do Sofista com o objetivo de compreender em que medida o aspecto epistemológico, proposto por Platão no Teeteto, pode ser lido à luz de questões relacionadas ao Ser e ao Não-ser, já que a pergunta pelo ‘o que é conhecimento’ nos remete também a uma discussão ontológica.

Os museus de ciências vêm estruturando suas ações educativas para os diferentes públicos, garantindo a acessibilidade a todo e qualquer cidadão. O Museu de Microbiologia, pensando no público infantil, elaborou a atividade “A descoberta de Sofia ao mundo invisível dos micróbios”, para crianças de até 6 anos, oferecida na programação de férias do Instituto Butantan em julho/2015. O objetivo da proposta foi investigar, ao longo da atividade, a compreensão das crianças sobre os microrganismos e sua relação com seu cotidiano, por meio de diferentes estratégias como contação de história, roda de conversa e desenho. A observação durante toda a atividade, a interação durante a contação e a análise das falas e dos desenhos, com as devidas explicações pelos pequenos, evidenciaram que as crianças conseguiram relacionar o conteúdo abordado com suas vivências, transpondo seus conhecimentos prévios e suas interpretações, sugerindo que houve um processo de aprendizagem.

Em 22 de junho de 2013, era acrescentado mais um episódio à história secular da Universidade de Coimbra (UC): a inscrição do bem Universidade de Coimbra – Alta e Sofia na Lista do Património Mundial da UNESCO.
O propósito deste artigo constitui-se em aprofundar alguns princípios que delinearam o processo da UC a Património Mundial, tendo em conta o contributo e influência de alguns dos seus protagonistas político-conceptuais, teóricos e decisores. Para tal, terá contribuído o pensamento e o trabalho desenvolvido por dois gabinetes, constituídos como Projetos Especiais da Reitoria, em março e em outubro de 2004, o Gabinete Paço das Escolas e o Gabinete de Candidatura à UNESCO, para desenvolver o processo de candidatura.
Recorrendo, sobretudo a pesquisa e revisão documental e bibliográfica, este trabalho articula os testemunhos desses protagonistas, pelo papel fundamental que tiveram ao longo do processo, sob várias perspetivas.

Da Gramatologia de Derrida à Arqueologia dos Saberes de Foucault, um pensamento filosófico-bibliográfico se consolida, mas tem seu nascimento nas primeiras “aparições” da filosofia ocidental, nas disputas entre parmenídicos e heraclitianos, entre sofistas e socráticos, entre uma cultura clássica e o helenismo. Um certo metaforismo do livro, colaborador direto da construção conceitual de “modernas” concepções de mundo, desde os gregos, se apresenta à história do pensamento. O conceito de “gramatização” tem aqui papel preponderante: ele relaciona objetivamente as transformações do pensamento junto das transformações da linguagem. A proposta desta reflexão filosófica é discutir a relação ubíqua, em um longo decurso histórico, das conexões subjacentes entre uma teoria conhecimento e uma teoria bibliográfica, que “desemboca” atualmente nos discursos tecidos entre tecnologia e linguagem, os quais resultam, por sua vez, na centralidade do papel da Bibliografia, como gesto, arte, ciência. A inflexão histórica tem papel preponderante aqui não por conta da demarcação de uma historiografia das tecnologias da linguagem, mas na possibilidade de realização de suturas no tempo-espaço de afirmação de um ethos bibliográfico que está costurado na passagem das culturas nômades para uma racionalidade sedentária, dependente de memórias estáveis. Deste modo, de uma teoria do conhecimento como “transformação moderna” do pensamento anti-mitológico na Antiguidade (pré-século V antes de Cristo), às novas tecnologias da linguagem pós-1960, uma epistemologia prática, ou seja, uma teoria bibliográfica do conhecimento se estabelece lentamente, constituindo uma episteme distinta em paralelo à história do próprio projeto histórico do pensamento filosófico

The deficit of the irrigation water requires irrigation technologies with more efficient water use. For cucumbers, the most suitable is the drip irrigation technology. For establishing of the appropriate irrigation schedule of cucumbers under the soil and climate conditions in the village of Chelopechene, near Sofia city, the researchеs was conducted with drip irrigation technology, adopting varying irrigation schedules and hydraulic regimes - from fully meeting the daily crops water requirements cucumbers to reduced depths with 20% and 40%. It have been established irrigation schedule with adequate pressure flows in the water source, irrigation water productivity and yields of in plastic unheated greenhouses of the Sofia plant.

Monitoring of geodynamic processes by modern GNSS techniques in the area of Sofia and South-Western Bulgaria has continued for 25 years. To study the modern crustal movements in the area, Global Positioning System (GPS) data acquired between 1996 and 2021 are analyzed to obtain the velocity field for South-Western Bulgaria. For a time period of almost 25 years, the monitoring has covered 28 stations. They have been measured in different years and in a number of campaigns. Despite the difference in the measurements, the obtained results are quite homogeneous in the different localities of the studied area and show clear uniform tendencies. All velocities are in the southern direction. They are in the range of 1.5 mm/year to slightly over 3 mm/year, almost reaching 4 mm/year. The velocities of the stations tend to increase from north (stations around Sofia), passing through an intermediate locality (between Sofia and Kyustendil–Pazardhik), clearly increasing in the southernmost part of the country (around Gotse Delchev). This velocity field motivates N–S expressed extension with increasing rates from North to South. The difference in the velocity rates tends to change along geologically suggested active fault zones. The obtained results generally confirm previously data, but with much better accuracy and details at the local level. This way, both the repeated measurements and extension of the geodynamic network prove to be a powerful tool for a better understanding of present-day geodynamics.

A ação acontece ao longo de vários debates públicos com três cientistas: o protestante, doutor em teologia por Harvard, Thomas Hilton; o psicólogo e renomado teólogo do Vaticano, Alberto Mullen; e o médico ateu, doutor em neurociências, Michael Herman, que mora em Jerusalém _ cidade sede do que viria a ser o maior encontro mundial sobre a mente do homem mais inteligente da história. Como moderadora, foi escolhida a Dra. Sofia, médica psiquiatra, filha de oncologistas; pai católico e mãe protestante. Assim, em meio a um contexto contemporâneo de ceticismo, vaidade científica, fome emocional e terrorismo, profícuas discussões ocorrem e a vida de cada um dos personagens e de milhares de pessoas no mundo vai ser transformada, a partir da gestão da emoção e reinvenção de suas histórias de vida.

The present study presents the professional career of one of the most famous lecturers in the Law Faculty of the Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridsky” till 1944 – namely Professor Nikola Saranov (1895–1974). Under detailed consideration is his professional career and the gradual way in which he has been established as a leading lecturer of the discipline Criminal court procedure. Professor Saranov has also introduced a lecture course in Criminal studies in Bulgaria. Following the coup d’etat of 9 September 1944 he has been gradually forced to quit his lecturing at the Law Faculty. In the study under consideration are documents in support of the consequences from this act, in particular monitoring and repressions on behalf of the State Security Service almost until the death of the professor in 1974. These activities of the repressive state machine are applied also to relatives and family members of the professor. Under consideration are also the various interests of Professor Saranov in different areas, including towards the short career of a judge of the national poet Ivan Vasov in the town of Bercovitsa in the period 1879–1880, with regard to which the professor issues a study in the Yearbook of the Law Faculty of the Sofia University in 1943.

Abstract Background Influenza is a significant pathogen for long-term care facility (LTCF) residents. As part of a randomized controlled trial to assess early detection of influenza in LTCFs, we deployed rapid influenza detection tests (RIDTs) at intervention LTCFs. Our primary objectives for this interim analysis were to evaluate the sensitivity and specificity of the Quidel Sofia® Influenza A+B Fluorescent Immunoassay RIDT in a high-risk, nontraditional population, and to describe the virology of acute respiratory infections (ARI) in LTCF residents. Methods Personnel at LCTFs identified cases of ARI, collected nasal specimens, and ran RIDTs from 10/21/2016 to 4/28/2017. The residual nasal swab and leftover lysis buffer were placed into a viral transport medium tube and sent to the Wisconsin State Laboratory of Hygiene for confirmatory influenza RT-PCR testing. In addition, all specimens were tested for other viruses using the Luminex NxTAG® Respiratory Pathogen Panel. Sensitivity and specificity of the Sofia RIDT were calculated using RT-PCR results as the reference standard. Results Specimens were collected from 228 residents (mean age = 71.3 ± 22.4 years). The mean time from symptom onset to specimen collection was 1.4 ± 1.6 days (range: 0-7 days). Respiratory viruses were identified in 134/228 cases (58.8%); influenza viruses (A: 7.5% and B: 14.5%) were the most commonly detected virus by PCR, followed by rhinovirus/enterovirus (13.2%), RSV (11.0%) and coronaviruses (10.1%). The sensitivities of Sofia RIDT for influenza A and influenza B were 77.8% (95% CI: 52.4–93.6%) and 80.0% (95% CI: 61.4–92.3%), respectively, with specificities of 98.4% (95.3–99.7%) and 97.1% (93.4–99.1%), respectively. Overall performance assessment for influenza A or B yielded a sensitivity of 79.2% (65.0–89.5%) and specificity of 96.1% (91.7–98.6%). The estimated likelihood of discovering one of the first two influenza cases at a LTCF using this RIDT is estimated to be ≥95.7%. Conclusion Although a wide constellation of respiratory viruses cause ARIs within LTCF populations, influenza is very common. Early ARI recognition in residents, with testing shortly after symptom onset, likely contributed to high performance of the Sofia RIDT. O engenheiro civil Carlos Torres Gonçalves (1875-1974) foi um dos mais importantes positivistas religiosos do Rio Grande do Sul e do Brasil ao longo do século XX, sendo o principal responsável pela construção da Capela Positivista de Porto Alegre. Na sua trajetória como propagandista da Igreja Positivista do Brasil e como funcionário da Secretaria Estadual das Obras Públicas – onde foi o responsável pela implementação da política fundiária do Rio Grande do Sul por duas décadas –, Torres Gonçalves procurou direcionar sua ação de acordo com os preceitos que Auguste Comte estabeleceu sob a “angélica inspiração” de Clotilde de Vaux. Mas não foi apenas na esfera pública de sua vida que Torres Gonçalves procurou aplicar os preceitos positivistas. Também em sua vida privada ele fez tal tentativa, vivenciando o positivismo de forma visceral. Para isto, foi fundamental a constituição de uma família positivista, o que ele consolidou com as conversões à Religião da Humanidade de seus três “anjos da guarda”, isto é, de sua noiva e depois esposa, Dagmar, de sua filha, Sofia Mariana, e de sua mãe, Virgínia. Algumas cartas trocadas entre os membros da família Torres Gonçalves durante as três primeiras décadas do século XX permitem vislumbrar um pouco desse universo particular.

Resumo: Neste artigo, pretendemos destacar, a partir das indicações do segundo Wittgenstein, a vinculação entre problemas presentes na origem da tradição filosófica e determinadas imagens (Bilder) da significação linguística. Em particular, procuraremos nos deter no problema da relação entre discurso e identidade do Ser, tópico emblemático da discussão travada entre Parmênides, alguns sofistas e Platão e decisivo na conformação da tradição do pensamento filosófico. Assumindo o fundo pedagógico presente nas origens da filosofia, procuraremos igualmente destacar o papel reservado à aprendizagem da linguagem – ou de certo uso da linguagem – na forma de conhecimento filosófico. Discutiremos finalmente como a filosofia pode ser entendida como uma atividade formativa de esclarecimento conceitual a partir e por meio da linguagem – um exercício que tenta remeter a obra tardia de Wittgenstein à tradição de pensamento que, direta ou indiretamente, representava o enfeitiçamento contra o qual o filósofo se debateu ao longo da vida.

Philosophy, language and education: some remarks from a Wittgensteinian perspective
Abstract: Acordding to some remarks from late Wittgenstein, the article stresses the link between problems present at the origin of the philosophical tradition and certain images (Bilder) of linguistic meaning. In particular, we focus on the relation between language and identity of Being, one matter upon wich Parmenides, Sophists and Plato disagreed, and decisive for the tradition of philosophy. Assuming the educational relevance of this ancient philosophical debates, we will also seek to highlight the role reserved for language learning – or a certain use of language – in the form of philosophical knowledge. We will finally discuss how philosophy can be understood as a formative activity of conceptual elucidation by means of language, an exercise that attempts to refer Wittgenstein's late work to the tradition of thought that, directly or indirectly, represented the bewitchment against which the philosopher struggled throughout his life.

Filosofía, lenguaje y educación: algunos comentários inspirados em uma perspectiva wittgensteiniana
Resumen: De acuerdo con algunas observaciones del último Wittgenstein, el artículo enfatiza el vínculo entre los problemas presentes en el origen de la tradición filosófica y ciertas imágenes (Bilder) de significado lingüístico. En particular, nos centramos en la relación entre lenguaje e identidad del ser, tema en el que Parménides, sofistas y Platón discreparon, y decisivo para la tradición de la filosofía. Asumiendo la relevancia educativa de estos debates filosóficos antiguos, también buscaremos resaltar el papel reservado al aprendizaje de la lenguaje – o un cierto uso del linguaje – en forma de conocimiento filosófico. Finalmente discutiremos cómo la filosofía puede entenderse como una actividad formativa de elucidación conceptual por medio del lenguaje, ejercicio que intenta remitir la obra tardía de Wittgenstein a la tradición del pensamiento que, directa o indirectamente, representó el hechizo contra lo que el filósofo luchó a lo largo de todo su vida.

Two species (Lamprochromus kowarzi and Syntormon pseudospicatum) are recorded as new for the fauna of Bulgaria. Habitat preferences of the identified species are discussed. Two species dominate the study area: Hercostomus nanus dominates from early June to mid-July and then Sybistroma obscurellus dominates from mid-July to the second half of October.

Há um relato oitocentista sobre a rainha francesa Maria Antonieta, no começo de um baile da corte, usando “um vestido azul repleto de safiras e diamantes. Ela era jovem, bela e adorada por todos – ainda assim, já estava próxima do abismo” (MENDEHLSOHN, 2006)2 . Essa passagem foi citada na crítica de Daniel Mendehlsohn sobre o filme Marie Antoinette, de Sofia Coppola, para destacar o que ele acreditava ser o ponto fraco do longa: Coppola, ele diz, “oferece o vestido, mas não o abismo” (MENDEHLSOHN, 2006, p. 22). Aquela descrição verbal da aparência da rainha era, resumidamente, mais reveladora, mais dramática do que as imagens deslumbrantes do filme. O contraste feito por Mendehlsohn em seu relato levanta o questionamento de porque algo tão visual quanto o vestir deveria ser considerado no contexto da literatura. O que as palavras fazem pelo vestir? Para o crítico, era a sugestão das palavras – a implicação de haver profundezas abaixo da superfície – que concedia o drama. Vestir-se, para Roland Barthes (2009), é a matéria poética ideal: tocando o corpo, revela-se o eu, mas também se interage com o social – conformando-se, rejeitando, enganando ou seduzindo.[...]

BackgroundBelimumab has been introduced in the management of SLE for more than 10 years, however long-term efficacy and safety data are still limited and mostly derive from the extended phase of randomized clinical trials.ObjectivesTo evaluate the long-term survival of belimumab treatment, reasons for treatment cessation and associated predictors in routine care setting.MethodsMulticentre observational study of adult SLE patients who were treated with belimumab according to physician discretion and in line with the EULAR recommendations. Disease activity (Physician Global Assessment [PGA]: scale 0-3; SLE disease activity index-2000 [S2K]), flares (SELENA-SLEDAI Flare Index), organ damage (SLICC damage index [SDI]), co-administered treatments and dosage, adverse events and causes of belimumab discontinuation were monitored prospectively at 3–6-month intervals. Cox-regression analysis was performed to identify factors associated with reduced drug survival.ResultsA total 184 patients treated with belimumab for at least 3 months were included (women 95.6%; mean ± SD age 48.8 ± 13.4 years; disease duration 9.2 ± 11.3 years). Baseline S2K and PGA were 7.5 ± 3.0 and 1.64 ± 0.42, respectively, both demonstrating significant improvement at 6 months (4.5 ± 3.5 and 1.02 ± 0.69, respectively; p<0.001) and 12 months (3.5 ± 3.1 and 0.68 ± 0.55, respectively; p<0.001). Of patients receiving glucocorticoids at onset, 49.0% tapered the dose and 17.6% completely withdrew them. After a median (interquartile range) follow-up of 15.1 (16.9) months, 44.0% of patients discontinued belimumab due to suboptimal efficacy as judged by the treating physician (28.3%), adverse events (including infections) (9.8%) or other causes (e.g., pregnancy, patient decision). Accordingly, efficacy-related drug survival rates at 1 and 2 years were 70% and 61%, respectively, with corresponding safety-related survival rates of 94% and 87%, respectively. Baseline factors associated with belimumab discontinuation due to suboptimal efficacy included PGA >1.50 (hazard ratio [HR] 3.66; 95% confidence interval [95% CI] 1.14–11.73; p=0.029) and severe (RA-like) arthritis (HR 2.56; 95% CI 1.16–5.68; p=0.020) but not disease duration, use of glucocorticoids, active serology or organ damage. Notably, patients with early (3 months) improvement (i.e., any decrease in PGA) showed significantly lower risk for treatment cessation (HR 0.38; 95% CI 0.22–0.67; p=0.001) (Figure 1) and this effect was independent of the initial PGA level. Baseline use of hydroxychloroquine was associated with prolonged safety-related belimumab survival (HR 0.32; 95% CI 0.12–0.88; p=0.028).Figure 1.Efficacy-related survival of belimumab according to improvement or not of PGA at 3 months since treatment initiation.ConclusionIn real-life setting, about 28% of SLE patients discontinue belimumab due to suboptimal treatment response per physician judgement, especially those with moderate-to-high activity and severe arthritis. Improvement in PGA at 3 months predicts long-term drug maintenance, therefore suggesting its value for patient monitoring. Existem palavras na língua portuguesa que muitas vezes nos confundem quanto ao seu significado e correta aplicação. Uma delas é a palavra “sofisticado”. Parece senso comum que é muito bom ser sofisticado, ter um gosto sofisticado, usar roupas sofisticadas, ir a um restaurante sofisticado, ler livros sofisticados, e por aí vai. Porém, uma rápida olhadela no Aurélio ou no Houaiss deita rapidamente por terra essa opinião. Em ambos encontra-se que denominando algo de sofisticado, podemos estar considerando aquilo como falsificado, contrafeito, adulterado, que não é natural, artificial, afetado, falsamente refinado ou intelectual, enganado com sofismas, que foi alterado fraudulentamente, postiço... Outra palavra que merece atenção, mas que vai em direção oposta é “caos”! Temos verdadeira ojeriza ao caos que, atendendo ao vernáculo, nos remete a situações de confusão, desordem, desorganização, mistura de coisas em total desequilíbrio, desarrumação, balbúrdia... Minha intenção neste texto é a de mostrar ao prezado leitor que assim como se generalizou o conceito de que o que é sofisticado é bom, assim também deve ser considerado em relação ao caos uma vez que o caos, na verdade, é organizador e gerador de ordem. Como já disse o Nobel de Literatura José Saramago em um de seus livros, “o caos é uma ordem por decifrar”. Sistemas são conjuntos de várias partes que visam um fim comum. Um relógio é um sistema, um automóvel é um sistema, um hospital é um sistema, um time de futebol é um sistema, temos os sistemas de transporte, os sistemas de ensino, os sistemas de crédito e nós seres humanos, obviamente somos sistemas, sistemas biológicos, convivendo nesse sistema maior que é o mundo. As partes de um sistema interagem entre si, sistemas interagem com outros sistemas, conjuntos de sistemas interagem com outros conjuntos de sistemas, numa espiral crescente que se retorce ao longo do tempo e, apesar da aparente desordem, tudo se comporta de forma harmônica e funcional. Uma característica marcante é que a grande maioria dos sistemas naturais tem comportamento não linear. Se atentarmos para as coisas naturais que nos cercam, veremos facilmente que a Natureza não faz retas. Praticamente tudo que tem formas geométricas convencionais, conhecida pela denominação de geometria euclidiana, como quadrados, triângulos, retângulos, círculos, etc, é fruto da construção pelo homem. As coisas naturais têm o que o genial matemático Benoit Mandelbrot chamou de geometria fractal, ou geometria quebrada. As dimensões não são inteiras, como a linha que tem dimensão um, ou o plano que tem dimensão dois, ou o volume com suas três dimensões. No mundo natural é possível a ocorrência, por exemplo, de uma dimensão como 2,4 (dois inteiros e quatro décimos). O próprio corpo humano, que a grande maioria das pessoas pensa ter três dimensões, na verdade tem algum valor entre dois e três já que é mais que uma linha e, portanto, com dimensão maior que um; é mais que um plano e assim sendo, com dimensão maior que dois, mas não chega a ser um cilindro, ou uma esfera (nem mesmo os mais gordinhos), quando teria dimensão três. Quando se examina a estrutura dos órgãos sadios, quando se analisa a distribuição normal dos vasos sanguíneos pelo corpo ou a distribuição dos brônquios dentro dos pulmões, quando se atenta à anatomia do cérebro ou dos intestinos, constata-se facilmente que a geometria da saúde é uma geometria fractal e, portanto, não linear. Do ponto de vista funcional, nas condições de não linearidade, apesar de existirem as causas de cada acontecimento, a previsibilidade para ocorrência desses acontecimentos é muito baixa, justamente porque existem muitas variáveis envolvidas e também porque pequenos acontecimentos em um determinado momento podem levar a enormes consequências em um momento mais adiante, que é o que se convencionou chamar de efeito borboleta. Uma gota de vacina não recebida na infância, pode levar à aquisição de uma grave doença tempos depois. Uma pequena bactéria introduzida acidentalmente na corrente sanguínea poderá causar uma grave infecção generalizada. Na vida social, um minuto de atraso para conseguir pegar um ônibus ou avião pode significar a perda de uma grande oportunidade ou até mesmo evitar uma morte caso ocorra um acidente com aquele meio de transporte. Esse conjunto de elementos formado por sistemas que se modificam ao longo do tempo, complexos, com comportamento não linear e com sensível dependência de condições iniciais caracteriza os denominados Sistemas Caóticos. O organismo humano é um lindo exemplo de sistema caótico e tenho observado em minhas pesquisas médicas, e os trabalhos científicos realizados em várias partes do mundo também confirmam que, quando o comportamento do organismo humano se torna linear, por exemplo, com batimentos cardíacos extremamente regulares, caminhada lenta e com distâncias iguais entre os passos, dosagens laboratoriais sem as variações características ao longo do dia, ondas cerebrais repetitivas entre outras perdas da variabilidade normal, então estamos frente a situações de doença ou envelhecimento. É preciso que haja variabilidade, dentro de certos limites, para que o organismo esteja funcionando bem, ou seja, é preciso que haja caos para que haja saúde. A própria criatividade e a intuição desenvolvida somente ganham espaço em meio a estados caóticos. É fato conhecido que boa parte das grandes descobertas científicas ocorreram seguindo-se caminhos não-lineares de busca do conhecimento como comentado por mim e meu grande amigo o psiquiatra Wilson Daher em nosso livro denominado “Intuição, Evidência e Caos – os sinuosos caminhos do fato científico”. Enfim caros leitores, se a partir de agora considerarem o caos como um componente importante para a integridade de sua saúde, e bem-estar de um modo geral, saibam que estarão em sintonia com um dos conhecimentos científicos mais avançados da atualidade, a Teoria do Caos. Abstract Life satisfaction, dimensions of internalized cultural values and self-efficacy related to emigration intentions for a long-term stay abroad of university students in five European countries. Aim: To explore the associations between emigration intentions of university students form five European countries in relation to several intrapersonal and emigration self-efficacy. The second aim is to explore the mediating role of self-efficacy in relation to internalized cultural values and emigration intentions. Sample and procedure: The sample consisted of 1223 students (females N=812, 66.4%, males N=411, 33.6%. M=21.95, SD=3.62) from five European countries. The data collection was completed via an online questionnaire (University of Antwerp, Belgium, Sofia University, Bulgaria, University of Miskolc, Hungary, Lithuanian University of Health Sciences, Lithuania, Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice, Slovak Republic). The local ethics committee in every country approved the study Statistical analysis: Statistical analysis was performed in SPSS 21. Differences in intrapersonal were analysed by ANOVA with a Scheffe Post hoc test. Binary logistic regression with the method enter controlling for country and age was used as a method of analysis. Mediational analyses were explored by using Hayes PROCESS tool. Findings: The regression model explained between 29-38 percent of the variance. Those students with higher self–efficacy also with higher horizontal individualism were more likely to have emigration intentions compared to those with lower self-efficacy and HI, and those with lower satisfaction and vertical collectivism were more likely to have long-term emigration intentions compared to those with higher satisfaction and VC. Self-efficacy was found to mediate the relationship between horizontal dimensions of internalized cultural values and emigration intentions.

Background:Adult-onset Still’s disease (AOSD) is a rare systemic inflammatory disorder. In recent years biological disease modifying antirheumatic drugs (bDMARDs) are becoming increasingly important for its treatment.Objectives:To evaluate disease outcomes, treatment strategies and their long-term safety in a cohort of AOSD patients treated with bDMARDs.Methods:A single-center retrospective study of patients diagnosed with AOSD until 2019 was conducted. Patients were included if they: a) were 16 years old or older, b) met the Yamaguchi criteria and c) had received a bDMARDDemographics, clinical and laboratory parameters were collected at the time of diagnosis.Data regarding treatment lines included: the previous and concomitant conventional disease modifying antirheumatic drugs (cDMARDs), the type of initial bDMARD, switches, survival and corticosteroids discontinuation. Adverse events related to treatment and disease outcomes including death and amyloidosis were also recorded.Results:Sixteen patients with AOSD (Table 1) refractory to cDMARDs were administered biologics. The median duration of follow-up was 14 years (range 1-24). Consistent with recent literature1, two distinct disease patterns were recognized: the systemic form (SF) and the chronic articular form (CAF). In the SF the leading clinical symptoms were fever, pericarditis and pleuritis. All patients with the CAF were on bDMARD at the end of follow-up, while 4/10 patients (40%) with the SF discontinued it. During follow-up only one serious adverse event was attributed to bDMARD (allergic reaction to infliximab infusion). BackgroundBiological drugs have revolutionized the treatment of rheumatic diseases, and the recent expiry of the patents for many biological agents has led to the marketing of highly similar, low-cost versions known as biosimilars. However, questions regarding its efficacy compared to bio-originator drugs, in a real-life setting, have been raised. National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) guidelines state that the response to biologic disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drugs (bDMARDs) should be assessed 12 weeks after the beginning of the drug. Treatment should only be continued if there is clear evidence of response, defined as a reduction in the Bath Ankylosing Spondylitis Disease Activity Index (BASDAI) score to 50% of the pre-treatment value or by 2 or more units and a reduction in the 10-cm spinal pain visual analogue scale (VAS) by 2 cm or more.ObjectivesTo compare the response to adalimumab (ADA) originator and biosimilar in bDMARD-naïve patients with axial spondyloarthritis (axSpA) and in patients who switched from originator to biosimilar drug, accordingly to NICE guidelines; to compare the effectiveness and safety of the originator and biosimilar drugs in patients with axSpA, measured by persistence rates (PR) over three years.MethodsA retrospective observational single-centre UK study was performed in bDMARD-naïve patients with a clinical diagnosis of axSpA who initiated treatment with ADA (original or biosimilar) and in patients who switched from originator to biosimilar drug. Descriptive statistics were used. Disease activity at baseline and follow-up data at 3 and 6 months of treatment was compared using the chi-square test. The Kaplan-Meier method was used to calculate persistence rates in biologic treatment over time. Reasons for discontinuing therapy were summarized using descriptive statistics and stratified by treatment.ResultsA total of 153 patients were included: 83 patients started on original ADA, 31 started on biosimilar ADA and 40 switched from original to biosimilar drug. The population’s baseline characteristics are similar in the three groups. However, some differences were found, namely disease duration was longer in the group that did switch and the disease activity is similar in patients who started original and biosimilar ADA and was lower in the group of patients who switched from original to the biosimilar. The 3-year PR was not significantly different between originator and biosimilar ADA in bDMARD naïve patients and in the group of patients that switched from original drug to biosimilar drug (p=0.080), as shown in Figure 1. In the original ADA group, 3-years PR was 67.5% with a median time-on-drug (TOD) of 29.5 months; for biosimilar drug, 3-years PR was 64.5%, with a median TOD of 24.2 months. In patients who switched from original to biosimilar drug, 3-years PR was 77.5% with a median TOD of 30.3 months. Response to treatment according to NICE guidelines was similar between original and biosimilar drugs (p>0.05). Overall, 47 (30.7%) patients stopped adalimumab (27 patients on original drug and 20 on biosimilar drug). Discontinuations due to adverse events and inefficacy were the most frequent, and there were no significant differences between original and biosimilar drugs. Background:Fatigue is reported in up to 90% of patients with established Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA). Fatigue has a large impact on patient`s life and is perceived difficult to manage in many patients. The early disease course could constitute a window of opportunity to tackle fatigue.Objectives:To explore that, if RA can be controlled rapidly, complaints of fatigue could be less in the long run, even in patients considered at low risk to develop a severe disease course.Methods:Patients with a low risk profile recruited in the 2-year pragmatic Care in Early Rheumatoid Arthritis (CareRA) trial were used in this analysis. This low risk profile was based on the absence of erosions, rheumatoid factor, anti-citrullinated protein bodies or low disease activity status. The low-risk group was randomised to either a tight step-up starting with 15mg MTX weekly in monotherapy (MTX-TSU) or COBRA Slim, consisting of 15 mg MTX weekly and a prednisone step-down scheme starting at 30 mg. Fatigue was measured by the multi-dimensional fatigue inventory (MFI), a self-report instrument consisting of 20 questions with a Likert scale from 1-5 as answer. These 20 questions can be subdivided in five subscales (0-20) of four questions (higher scores indicating higher fatigue levels): general fatigue, mental fatigue, physical fatigue, reduced activity and reduced motivation. General fatigue means the general feeling of being tired. Mental fatigue implicates concentration and memory problems. Physical fatigue implicates a lack of energy and strength. Reduced activity means that patients can do less activities for example on one day. Reduced motivation means that patients don’t want to plan or do things due to lack of motivation. MFI was obtained at baseline, at week 16, week 52 and week 104. Cobra Slim was compared with MTX-TSU by Mann-Whitney-U test. The 5 domains of the MFI of the two groups were compared by a generalized estimating equation (GEE) over 2 years adjusting for baseline MFI domain score and DAS28.Results:Of the 90 patients recruited in the low-risk group, 80 (89%) patients completed the MFI at baseline. Randomisation was successful resulting in similar baseline characteristics and MFI levels between Cobra Slim (n=38) and MTX-TSU (n=42). After 2 years of treatment, DAS28CRP levels (Slim 1.9 ±0.8 - MTX-TSU 2.2 ±1.0, p=0.253) and DAS28CRP remission (Slim 81.5% - MTX-TSU 77.1%, p=0.677) did not differ between patients. However, general (Slim 9.8 ±4.1 – MTX-TSU 13.1 ±4.0, p=0.005) and mental (Slim 6.8 ±2.7 - MTX-TSU 10.0 ±4.9, p=0.022) fatigue levels on the MFI were lower in the Cobra Slim group at week 104. GEE analysis confirmed that groups differed in the general (p=0.026) and mental (p=0.013) fatigue scale over 2 years (Figure 1).Figure 1.DAS28CRP and MFI General Fatigue score over 2 years between groupsConclusion:Patients treated intensively have lower fatigue levels over 2 years compared to patients treated more conservatively, even if disease activity became similar in the two groups over time. This underlines the importance of initiating an optimal intensive treatment even in so called low-risk patients. Moreover, our results show that fatigue is a heterogeneous concept, with different interactions between treatment and type of fatigue. Background:The treat-to-target Care in Early Rheumatoid Arthritis (CareRA) trial demonstrated that remission induction with csDMARD combinations and step-down glucocorticoids (GCs) was not superior over methotrexate (MTX) monotherapy with step-down GCs (Cobra Slim) in RA patients with a high-risk profile (1). Moreover, Cobra Slim showed benefit over a tight step-up with MTX in monotherapy (TSU) in RA patients with a low-risk profile.Objectives:To compare the long term outcomes up to 5 years of different initial intensive treatment strategies in participants of the CareRA-plus study.Methods:In the CareRA trial, patients with DMARD naïve early RA were stratified in a high- or low-risk group based upon the presence of serummarkers, disease activity and erosive status. High-risk patients were randomised to Cobra Classic (MTX+sulphasalazine with highly dosed GC remission induction scheme), Cobra Avant-Garde (MTX+leflunomide with moderately dosed GC scheme) or Cobra Slim. Low-risk patients were randomised to Cobra Slim or TSU. Patients completing this trial were eligible for the CareRA-plus observational study. Here, patients were evaluated 6-monthly over 3 years. Therapy adaptation was left to the treating physician. Efficacy was assessed by DAS28-CRP and HAQ and compared between the originally allocated treatment arms. The 5-year evolution from CareRA baseline of DAS28-CRP and HAQ was assessed via linear mixed models. All adverse events (AEs), considered to be clinically relevant by investigators, and DMARD/GCs therapy were registered.Results:Of 322 eligible patients, 252 (78%) were included in CareRA-plus, of which 203 (81%) completed the study. Characteristics and outcomes at the CareRA closing visit (year 2) did not differ between patients entering CareRA-plus or not. DAS28-CRP<2.6 at year 5 in high-risk patients was 72%, 77% and 64% in the Classic, Slim and Avant-Garde group respectively (p=0.403). In the longitudinal analyses, all treatment arms in the high-risk group had comparable DAS28-CRP (p=0.921) and HAQ scores over time (p=0.540). In the low-risk population, 83% of patients in the Slim and 82% in the TSU arm had DAS28-CRP<2.6 at year 5 (p=0.945). Low-risk patients starting Cobra-Slim had lower DAS28-CRP scores over 5 years than those receiving TSU (p= 0.002). HAQ score over time did not differ (p=0.129). In high-risk patients, the total numbers of AEs throughout CareRA-plus, were 70 in 36 Classic, 95 in 48 Slim and 80 in 36 Avant-Garde patients (p=0.182). In the low-risk group there were 18 AEs in 10 Slim and 36 in 17 TSU patients (p=0.048). During the 5-year study, biologics were initiated in 22% of all patients: 23% of Classic, 23% of Slim high-risk, 25% of Avant-Garde, 17% of Slim low-risk, and 15% of TSU patients. At the year 5 visit, 71%, 61% and 50% of high-risk patients were on csDMARD monotherapy (mostly MTX) in Classic, Slim and Avant-Garde respectively. Of the low-risk group, 65% in COBRA-Slim and 62% in TSU were taking a single csDMARD. At the year 5 visit, 9% of all participants received chronic oral GC therapy (>3 months).Conclusion:All intensive treatment strategies resulted in excellent long-term clinical outcomes. Resumo: O presente artigo visa considerar a questão da má-fé no Górgias de Platão a partir da acepção ética de “negação da própria liberdade” que Sartre empresta ao termo no ensaio O ser e o nada. O conceito de má-fé aparece no diálogo por ocasião da discussão entre Sócrates e Cálicles, quando o jovem sofista acusa o filósofo de usar argumentos capciosos para enganar Górgias e Polo. Ver-se-á ao longo do texto, porém, que é Cálicles quem na verdade recorre ao uso da má-fé, ao introduzir a ideia de um determinismo natural para justificar seu hedonismo e negar a autonomia de escolha do homem. Propõe-se então a tese de que a má-fé decorre necessariamente do caráter anfibológico da retórica, pois desde que o orador imiscui interesses de caráter pessoal na sua argumentação, vê-se obrigado a adaptar seu discurso a tais interesses, sem preocupar-se com a elucidação correta das questões. A dialética socrática, por sua vez, pode furtar-se às contradições da má-fé na medida em que assume o caráter de investigação lógica desinteressada, comprometida apenas com o conhecimento exato da verdade. The issue of bad faith in the Gorgias of Plato Abstract: This present article aims to consider the issue of bad faith in the Plato’s Gorgias in relation to the ethic meaning of “own freedom’s deny” that Sartre bestows to the term at his essay Being and nothingness. The conception of bad faith appears in the dialogue at the occasion of discussion between Socrates and Calicles, as the young sophist accuses the philosopher of being using captious arguments to deceive Gorgias and Polo. It shall be seen along the text, however, that it’s actually Calicles whom happens to have recourse to bad faith as he introduces the idea of natural determinism to justify his hedonism and deny the choice’s autonomy of men. It’s proposed then the thesis that the bad faith proceeds necessarily from the amphibological rhetoric’s character, that once the orator interferes personal concerns at his argumentation, he sees himself obligated to adapt his speech to such concerns, and no attempt to make the correct elucidation of matters. The socratical dialectic, on the other hand, can get the contradictions out, as long as it assumes a character of logical and disinterested research, compromised only with the exact knowledge of truth. A história da humanidade tem-se desenrolado num mundo de mudanças constantes, por vezes lentas, outras rápidas, em parte devido a intervenções humanas, com as suas consequências intencionais ou involuntárias, e em parte devido a causas naturais. Não há nisto seguramente qualquer razão para pensar que, a médio e longo prazo, seja possível prever os acontecimentos futuros. Por não termos a capacidade de lidar com as grandes catástrofes, por limitações tecnológicas, econômicas ou políticas, a humanidade optou por resignar-se aceitando a vulnerabilidade diante dos eventos de grande magnitude (e mais raros), em troca de uma maior capacidade de lidar com as perturbações menores e comuns. As cidades, como espaços produzidos, ao mesmo tempo em que criam oportunidades civilizatórias, também se transformam em armadilha ambiental. A cidade é um sistema de fixos e de fluxos, que se relacionam e se produzem de forma contraditória. Para Santos (2002), estes derivam das intervenções sociais e econômicas no ambiente intra-urbano, por meio das relações entre os agentes sociais. Entretanto é possível admitir que dentre os tipos de fluxos que atuam no espaço urbano, numa perspectiva ambiental, encontra-se a dinâmica atmosférica e o ritmo climático, que funcionam como forças capazes de agir de forma a pressionar o sistema urbano, ao produzir tipos de tempo que afetam e, não raras vezes condicionam a vida cotidiana das cidades. Como a produção do espaço urbano segue a lógica da reprodução capitalista, portanto gerador de espaços segregados e fragmentados, longe de se produzir um sistema que respeite e se adapte às condições ambientais e naturais, é de se esperar que esta contradição resulte em impactos altamente sensíveis aos diversos grupos sociais que habitam a cidade de forma também desigual, tornando as desigualdades sociais, ainda mais agudas. Admitindo que, em geral, o equilíbrio entre o sistema urbano e o sistema climático é precário, então quanto maior o desequilíbrio entre estes sistemas, maior a vulnerabilidade urbana, principalmente nas cidades da periferia do mundo desenvolvido, como é o caso das cidades tropicais brasileiras. Se a cidade é o habitat da modernidade, se os sistemas urbanos são altamente complexos e desiguais e, se a atmosfera urbana é o produto da interação entre as variáveis do clima e as intervenções socioeconômicas, então os diversos grupos sociais não experimentam nem se relacionam com o tempo e o clima urbano da mesma forma. Espaços desiguais potencializam os efeitos do clima, que se manifestam, também, de forma desigual. Nesta perspectiva, tem-se que admitir que o clima urbano possa ser interpretado como uma construção social. Se o espaço urbano (os fixos) é uma armadilha, uma presa fácil para a ação dos eventos extremos numa visão fatalista, teríamos que aceitar o fato de estarmos “condenados” à cidade – à cidade enferma, como nos provoca Gaspar (2009). Mas, o espaço urbano também pode ser uma oportunidade (MONTEIRO, 2010), ainda que utópica, de construirmos uma cidade que seja o território da satisfação e da felicidade – a cidade saudável.

Este artigo, resultado de pesquisa bibliográfica, busca compreender um dos múltiplos caminhos de diversas práticas empreendidas no cenário religioso e educativo, que é a participação efetiva de mulheres na organização da sociedade. Aborda os temas da educação e da religião a partir da concepção de Sofia Cavalletti (1917-2011), que com Gianna Gobbi (1920-2002), pedagoga montessoriana, desenvolve a Catequese do Bom Pastor (Catechesis of the Good Shepherd – CGS). Traça o contexto da Nova Escola e os pressupostos do projeto montessoriano para a compreensão dessa proposta para o cenário religioso e educativo. Assim como no método montessoriano, a CGS possibilita o manuseio de materiais concretos dando ênfase à educação dos sentidos. E como acontece com a maioria das abordagens, educacionais ou ministeriais, a CGS também tem seus críticos. O tempo de formação dos catequistas, considerado muito longo, a questão linguística nos escritos de Cavalletti, particularmente para um público de fala inglesa, e o fato de não fornecer definições precisas sobre as suas pesquisas, são alguns pontos delicados de seus pressupostos.

Conceber um elogio à retórica na obra de Platão, notoriamente conhecido pela sua crítica aos sofistas e aos retóricos é, no mínimo, desconcertante. Mais que isso, suscita questões que desafiam o leitor a novas interpretações. Isso é o que parece ocorrer no Fedro. Diálogo considerado de maturidade, o Fedro põe em interlocução Sócrates e o personagem homônimo que se identifica como discípulo de Lísias. Em toda a primeira parte do diálogo, não somente a retórica e o estilo da peça lida por Fedro é enaltecido e elogiado, mas também avaliado criticamente, como também o jovem personagem consegue façanha inusitada: fazer Sócrates, ele próprio, proferir dois longos discursos que são variações do mesmo tema – o amor. A proposta de leitura que oferecemos para essa passagem, que inclui o prólogo e o entorno dos três discursos apresentados no Fedro consiste em observar que os discursos retóricos e os comentários críticos e elogiosos acerca deles proferidos só se revelam possíveis fora de uma audiência pública, mas em âmbito privado, em localidade erma fora dos muros de Atenas, um cenário atípico para uma prática atípica que Platão atribui aos seus personagens.

Assim como vem ocorrendo com outros povos indígenas no Brasil, os Suyá, povo habitante do Parque Indígena do Xingu (MT), têm vivenciado, desde 1970, um processo de recuperação demográfica. Trabalhos recentes discutem as razões que levaram à reversão do longo processo de depopulação vivenciado pelos povos indígenas no Brasil. A suposição de que o processo de recuperação populacional dos Suyá tenha sido gerado por mudanças socioculturais, com repercussão no seu comportamento reprodutivo, estimulou a realização deste estudo, que descreve os seus níveis e padrões da fecundidade entre 1970 e 2007. As bases de dados são estatísticas vitais contínuas e levantamento de campo. A discussão dos resultados apoia-se em informações sobre o sistema sociocultural e os conhecimentos tradicionais de saúde reprodutiva desse povo indígena. Recent studies analyse the reasons that have led to a reversion of the long depopulation process undergone by Indigenous peoples in Brasil. The conjecture that the Suyá´s demographic recovery was due to social and cultural changes that reflected in their reproductive behavior was the reason for this study that describes their fertility levels and patterns between 1970 and 2007. Data is based on continuous vital statistics and field research. Results analysis is grounded on their sociocultural system and historical knowledge of the Suyá´s reproductive health. Education is an activity requiring lengthy efforts and perseverance, as well as skills for acquiring information and its creative usage. All this is based on prolonged motivation, directly related to the improvement of the educational development and the consecutive professional realization. Long-term objectives serve as coordinating terms leading to particular goals in the everyday life and thus, behaviour could be rationalized and directed in a longer prospective towards both the past and the future. The aim of the present study is to survey the opinion and personal assessment of the long-term motivation of students from NSA “Vassil Levski”, Sofia and students from Nish, Serbia. The research was conducted from November 2016 to May 2017. It was done among 96 students (45 fourth-year students at NSA and 51 students from the University in Nish). The students had to fill out a test consisting of 10 questions related to their personal assessment of their long-term motivation. The results of the study were processed mathematically and statistically by: variation analysis, relative share, comparative analysis of two independent samples and comparative analysis of the frequency distributions with χ² – the Pearson criterion.According to the generalized conclusions, a higher percentage of the Bulgarian students is directed towards long-term objectives and prospects than the percentage of the Serbian students. Women are more motivated in their long-term development than men but there are not statistically significant differences along all the questions. Athletes’ motivation is higher than the average one for the whole population. We believe, however, that the motivation changes in the course of the studies and we assume it is higher for the students who are about to graduate.

ObjectiveTo assess the feasibility of conducting respiratory virus surveillance for residents of long term care facilities (LTCF) using simple nasal swab specimens and to describe the virology of acute respiratory infections (ARI) in LCTFs.IntroductionAlthough residents of LTCFs have high morbidity and mortality associated with ARIs, there is very limited information on the virology of ARI in LTCFs.[1,2] Moreover, most virological testing of LCTF residents is reactive and is triggered by a resident meeting selected surveillance criteria. We report on incidental findings from a prospective trial of introducing rapid influenza diagnostic testing (RIDT) in ten Wisconsin LTCFs over a two-year period with an approach of testing any resident with ARI.MethodsAny resident with new onset of respiratory symptoms consistent with ARI had a nasal swab specimen collected for RIDT by nursing staff. Following processing for RIDT (Quidel Sofia Influenza A+B FIA), the residual swab was placed into viral transport medium and forwarded to the Wisconsin State Laboratory of Hygiene and tested for influenza using RT-PCR (IVD CDC Human Influenza Virus Real-Time RT-PCR Diagnostic Panel), and for 17 viruses (Luminex NxTAG Respiratory Pathogen Panel [RPP]). The numbers of viruses in each of 7 categories [influenza A (FluA ), influenza B (FluB), coronaviruses (COR), human metapneumovirus (hMPV), parainfluenza (PARA), respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) and rhinovirus/enterovirus (R/E)], across the two years were compared using chi-square.ResultsTotals of 164 and 190 specimens were submitted during 2016-2017 and 2017-2018, respectively. RPP identified viruses in 56.2% of specimens, with no difference in capture rate between years (55.5% vs. 56.8%). Influenza A (21.5%), influenza B (16.5%), RSV (19.0%) and hMPV (16.5%) accounted for 73.5% of all detections, while coronaviruses (15.5%), rhino/enteroviruses (8.5%) and parainfluenza (2.5%) were less common. Specific distribution of viruses varied significantly across the two years (Table: X2=48.1, df=6; p<0.001).ConclusionsSurveillance in LTCFs using nasal swabs collected for RIDT is highly feasible and yields virus identification rates similar to those obtained in clinical surveillance of ARI with collection of nasopharyngeal specimens by clinicians and those obtained in a school-based surveillance project of ARI with collection of combined nasal and oropharyngeal specimens collected by trained research assistants. Significant differences in virus composition occurred across the two study years. RSV varied little between years while hMPV demonstrated wide variation.
