Abstract:
The Yangtze River Delta (YRD) bears the vital task of driving the growth of China’s equipment manufacturing industry (EMI) intelligence as an advanced region. Fostering the transformation and upgrading of the EMI in the YRD and constructing a modern production mode is vital to developing and reforming China’s manufacturing industry. This paper uses industrial robot data to assess the level of intelligence (LoI) in the EMI from 2016 to 2019. The OLS (ordinary least squares) model is used for the measurements, and the MQ (the modified contribution index) is used to estimate the degree of contribution from a host of variables. It is identified that the LoI is on the rise. However, excluding railways, aerospace, shipbuilding, and other transportation equipment manufacturing, the LoI is significantly higher than in other subsectors. It is also identified that technological innovation ability, human capital density, and enterprise cost pressure govern the industry’s LoI. Moreover, while there is a difference in the main influencing factors in LoI within different industries, R&D investment, technological innovation ability, and enterprise cost pressure have the most significant impact across most equipment manufacturing sub-industries.

Using 10-(2,5-dihydroxyphenyl)-10-hydrogen-9-oxo-10-phosphine-10-oxide (DOPO-H Q), N,N-diethyl-bis(hydroxyethyl) aminomethylene phosphate diethyl (FRC-6), and (6-oxo- 6H-dibenzo[c,e][1,2]oxphosphine-6-yl) hydroxylmethyl-thiophene (DOPO-SF) as reactive flame retardants, the flame-retardant polyurethane pressure sensitive adhesive (FRPU-PSA) were prepared. The fourier transform infrared (FTIR), thermogravimetric analysis (TG), limiting oxygen index (LOI), vertical combustion (UL 94), 180° peeling, and inclined ball rolling were used to characterize and investigate the properties of FRPU-PSA. It was found that the LOI of PU/50mol%DOPO-HQ, PU/50mol%FRC-6, and PU/20wt%DOPO-SF were 30.7%, 29.3%, and 25.0%, respectively, the peel strength of PU/50mol%DOPO-HQ and PU/50mol%FRC-6 were 3.88N/25 mm and 3.42N/25 mm, respectively. FRPU-PSA not only had good bond strength, but also had good flame retardant performance.

Abstract:
The consolidation properties of a dewatered municipal sewage sludge were studied using the oedometer, hydraulic consolidation cell, and triaxial apparatus. Bioactive and stabilized test specimens of dried-compacted material and slurry material at different states of biodegradation (LOI = 55–70%, where LOI is the loss on ignition) were consolidated under applied stresses of 3–400 kPa. The rate of biogas production and the resulting pore pressure response of the unsaturated material were also studied for different specimen drainage conditions. The sludge material largely consisted of organic clay-sized particles, and although highly compressible, the material was practically impermeable (k = 10–9–10–11 m/s for slurry material, where k is the coefficient of permeability). Primary consolidation generally constituted only a small part of the overall deformation response for moderately degraded material (LOI [Formula: see text] 70%). Secondary compression was dominant, and for the bioactive material, included a significant contribution as a result of ongoing degradation of the organic solids. The contribution of primary consolidation to the overall deformation response increased for higher levels of treatment (LOI [Formula: see text] 55%) and the coefficient of secondary compression (Csec) values reduced; for example, Csec = 0.10–0.24 (σa = 35–150 kPa, where σa is the applied stress) for moderately degraded material and Csec [Formula: see text] 0.09 (σa = 300 kPa) for strongly degraded material. Biogas evolved from the material at a steady rate of up to 0.33 m3 gas/day/tonne for moderately degraded slurry, which caused the pore pressure to steadily increase to up to 40 kPa/day when the biogas remained trapped within the specimens.Key words: sewage sludge, consolidation, biodegrade, biogas.

Abstract:

Abstract:
While the tree growth potential is mainly determined by access to resources such as light or water, the distribution of produced biomass is under strong biomechanical control. The tree response to mechanical stimuli such as those induced by wind is called thigmomorphogenesis. This response has been mainly studied on very young trees under controlled condition, and only rarely in natural condition. This is the first study dealing with the tree growth in a broadleaf stand aiming to quantify the importance of thigmomorphogenetic effect as a growth factor in the silvicultural context. The experimental set-up includes forty trees divided into four groups of ten trees selected in a dense 35yrs old F. sylvatica L .stand. Each group was submitted to one of following treatments: thinning without guying, thinning with guying, guying only and controls.Considering the thigmomorphogenetic effect on the biomass allocation inside the tree, our results show that 45% of the stem volume growth and 61% of the root radial growth of thinned trees are due to wind-induced mechanical stimuli. Further, the distribution of tree ring area along the tree stem is under strong mechanosensitive control. In contrast, no effect of mechanical stimuli or thinning was observed on axial growth. Considering the explanation of the circumferential growth anisotropy, our results do not highlight a thigmomorphogenetic effect despite the identification of dominant sectors for strong winds and strains. The hypothesis put forward is that the directional variability of perceived strains is too high to induce a strongly directional growth response as it is usually the case under controlled conditions

Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:
The Press Law of July 29, 1881 is one of the major “liberal” achievements of the French Third Republic. It has been amended regularly since its enactment to adapt to the needs of society and it is supposed to guarantee the freedom of expression while at the same time imposing some limitations, as there is no absolute freedom. The limitations to the freedom of expression seem legitimate in a democracy as long as they do not constitute a crime of opinion i. E. Prohibit an opinion which is considered as evil by the government in power. The original intent of the 1881 law-makers was to repeal and ban that type of offence. The subsequent set of acts which created new violations of the press laws, have however revived the debate because numerous observers have seen in it the resurgence of crimes of opinion. These studies can neverterless be discussed and moderated. Crime of opinion have definitely disappeared from the Press Law in favour of the resolution of legal disputes sometimes by the conciliation of the rights in conflict (the freedom of expression with the protection of public order and the rights of others), sometimes by the neutralization of one of the rights in conflict (example of revisionist speech). However, the persistence and the resurgence of crimes of opinion has to be acknowledged. Indeed, it has never completely disappeared from the Press Law, be it in the original law of 1881 or in the subsequent amendments. The law-makers even seem to have been followed by the judges who tend to be tempted, through the particular implementation of some violations of the law (abuse of religious feelings, defamation), to reintroduce those offences that are quite incompatible with democratic ideals

Abstract:
Historically pore pressure evaluation in exploration areas was based on empirical relationships between drilling parameters, wireline logs and the mud weight. Examples include Eaton's Ratio and the Hottman & Johnson Methods, which were based on data from the Gulf of Mexico. These methods are not readily transported to other areas, such as the North Sea Basin, where the sediments are different in character and where burial and temperature histories are distinctly different. Data from several offshore North Sea wells, with high quality wireline and associated data have been analysed to determine the most appropriate method to estimate pore pressure in mudrocks. The data have led to an understanding of the key parameters for successful pore pressure estimation. The most effective method is shown to be the Equivalent Depth Method, but only where disequilibrium compaction is the source of the overpressure in the mudrocks. Core samples from 576 British Geological Survey sites in the offshore area of the British Islands were compared with > 10,000 porosities collected from the deep oceans (DSDP/ODP sites), which show that the porosities in the shallow section in the North Sea are anomalously low. The shallow section of the North Sea includes large volumes of Pleistocene-Recent sediments deposited as glacial and inter-glacial deposits. Frequency analysis (Cyclolog) of the wireline data covering this interval in several North Sea wells revealed a pattern in the relative featureless original data. Comparison with the global signature for oxygen isotopes for the same time period suggests that there have been ten cycles of ice sheet build up (Glacial period) followed by melting (Interglacial period) during the last one million years. Glacial deposits from 10 individual glacial cycles have therefore been identified in several exploration wells in the North Sea. Implications of loading/unloading of ice for the migration and trapping of hydrocarbons in the North Sea Basin are assessed.

Abstract:
Matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization (MALDI) has been celebrated as a soft ionization method for analyzing very diverse biological species including large proteins, peptides, carbohydrates, lipids and metabolites. The fact that MALDI is tolerant to salts and buffers and that it mostly produces singly charged ions from intact biomolecules is considered highly advantageous over electrospray ionization (ESI). Almost two decades after the introduction of vacuum MALDI, the technique was successfully implemented under atmospheric pressure (AP) conditions by Laiko and co-workers. Some of the most salient advantages of AP-MALDI over vacuum MALDI are its ability to generate intact ions from labile species with minimal fragmentation due to collisional cooling under AP, the ability of performing MSn experiments, and its exchangeability with other ion sources. However, AP-MALDI suffers from limited sensitivity due to low ion transmission efficiency under AP conditions. Because sensitivity is a function of the sample pretreatment method of choice, both preconcentration and selective sample fractionation can be used during the initial stages of the analytical pipeline to improve detectability. To that end, the first part of the work presented in this thesis is aimed at investigating various approaches to improve the sensitivity of AP-MALDI for mass spectrometric analysis of biomolecules. Chapter 1 reviews the history of laser desorption ionization (LDI), presenting salient features of vacuum MALDI and AP-MALDI, and concludes with a brief overview of leading ambient ionization techniques, such as Direct Analysis in Real Time (DART) ionization. Chapter 2 presents an investigation of an on chip sample preconcentration approach coupled to AP-MALDI for high-sensitivity analysis of neuropeptides extracted from Aedes aegypti mosquito heads. The theme of exploring efficient and reproducible purification methods for complex biosamples is continued in Chapter 3, where an evaluation of new on-tip solid-phase extraction (SPE) micro columns with various functional groups is presented. A second approach for enhancing AP-MALDI sensitivity by constructing a new pneumatically-assisted (PA) AP-MALDI ion source is presented in Chapter 4, where various factors affecting the performance of this device are investigated. Chapter 5 describes work involving the evaluation of DART ionization as a high-throughput method for the detection and identification of small terpene molecules central to the Aedes aegypti mosquito lifecycle.

The objectives of this study were to determine the effect of enhancement on consumer and trained beef palatability scores of three quality grades when cooked to three degrees of doneness (DOD) and to determine the accuracy and repeatability of the Pressed Juice Percentage (PJP). Striploins of USDA Prime, Low Choice, and Low Select quality grades were used in this study. To maximize variation in juiciness, steaks were either enhanced (formulated for 108% pump with a solution of water, salt, and alkaline phosphates) or non-enhanced, and cooked to three degree of doneness (Rare: 60°C, Medium: 71°C, or Very Well-Done: 82°C). All samples were evaluated for Warner-Bratzler shear force (WBSF), Slice Shear Force (SSF), PJP, and palatability traits by consumer and trained panelists. Consumer panelists rated all enhanced treatments similar (P > 0.05) to each other and greater (P < 0.05) for juiciness, tenderness, flavor liking, and overall liking than all non-enhanced treatments. Consumer ratings of juiciness, tenderness, and overall liking scores increased (P < 0.05) as DOD decreased. Consumer panelists rated all enhanced treatments similar (P > 0.05) and greater (P < 0.05) for the percentage of steaks classified as premium quality. For trained panel initial juiciness, all enhanced treatments and non-enhanced Prime samples were similar (P > 0.05) and greater (P < 0.05) than other treatments cooked to Medium and Very Well Done. Results indicated PJP had a relatively high repeatability coefficient (0.70), indicating that only 30% of the variation observed was due to sample measurement differences. The PJP threshold values evaluated accurately segregated steaks by the probability of a sample being rated “juicy” by consumers, with the actual percentage of “juicy” samples determined to be 41.67%, 72.31%, 89.33%, and 98.08% for the <50%, 50 – 75%, 75 – 90%, and >90% categories, respectively. Therefore, enhancement has a substantial, positive effect on beef palatability. Enhancing higher quality beef does not provide an additional palatability benefit; hence the greatest economic advantage is in enhancing lower quality beef products. Results of this study indicate the PJP juiciness method is both repeatable and accurate at sorting steaks based on the likelihood of a steak being “juicy”.
