Abstract:
ABSTRACTThe constant renewal of image is part of the intrinsic essence of fashion itself. This rewenal is not possible without prior analysis of the past or, in other words, tradition. So, in many cases, tradition has become the key to the modernization of a brand´s identity and even the key to its success. In order to show how tradition influences the evolution of the brand image, the future communication aims to address the case study of Loewe as an example of this phenomenon. This research will address this issue through the study of the evolution of Loewe´s image, comparing the period of time from 1956 —when it started the renewal process of the firm towards modernity by Javier Carvajal and Vicente Vela among others—, until the present day —focused on the recovery of that brilliant age with Jonathan Anderson as creative director—. This research shows the importance of tradition in the evolution of the brand´s image, analyzing the three design levels through which Loewe´s renewal occurs: its shops, its logo and its products. Thus, this paper will shed new light on the importance of valuing tradition in the image of fashion business, in order to bring new ideas applicable to other current cases.RESUMENLa constante renovación de su imagen forma parte de la propia esencia intrínseca de la moda.

Abstract:
AbstractSoon to celebrate his centennial year, Michael Loewe is certainly the most eminent Han historian today. Without his numerous publications—including not only such foundational reference works as The Biographical Dictionary of Qin and Western Han and Early Chinese Texts but also a wide range of more specialized studies—it is hard to imagine how the once-neglected field of Han history could have garnered such respect among scholars in allied fields in Euro-America and abroad. In these introductory remarks, we reflect on Michael Loewe's distinguished contributions to the field of early Chinese history over several decades and his extraordinary record as teacher. We draw special attention to several ways in which Professor Loewe's work continues to challenge such outdated and anachronistic paradigms as “Confucianism,” and we note the careful ways he correlates received, “found,” and excavated sources. We conclude the introduction with a set of reflections situating Professor Loewe as teacher within a distinguished Sinological lineage.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Objectives: Leptadenia hastata (Pers) Decne (Apocynaceae) is a common medicinal plant used in northern Nigeria either singly or together with conventional drugs to treat diabetes. This study investigated the influence of concurrent administration of the methanol leaf extract of L. hastata with metformin in streptozotocin/ nicotinamide-induced diabetic rats. Materials and Methods: Possible synergistic activity between the extract and metformin was assessed using 3 models of synergy analysis (Loewe additivity, Bliss independent and highest single agent [HSA] models). Eleven groups of Wistar rats (eight animals per group) consisting of ten groups of diabetic rats and one normal control group were used in this study. Six groups were administered with either the extract or metformin at three different doses each (50, 150 and 500 mg/kg for the extract and 30, 100 and 300 mg/kg for metformin), while another three groups were co-administered with the extract and metformin at three different ratios each (50 mg/kg: 30 mg/ kg, 150 mg/kg: 100 mg/kg and 500 mg/kg: 300 mg/kg). An oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) was conducted at baseline and on day 14. Result: The results revealed that the extract-metformin combination brought about a synergistic reduction in the total area under the OGTT curve (based on Loewe and HSA models) as well as a synergistic reduction in blood glucose (based on Loewe, Bliss and HSA models). Conclusion: The methanol leaf extract of L. hastata produced a synergistic antidiabetic activity in streptozotocin/ nicotinamide-induced diabetic rats when combined with metformin.

In CNC-Mills, recording the position and dimension of raw parts is a critical part of the process. In modern milling-centres, 3D-Touchprobes are used to detect part dimensions and locations. In the research project „Smarte Aufspannkontrolle“ funded by “Loewe” (Landes-Offensive zur Entwicklung Wissenschaftlich-ökonomischer Exzellenz), a computer vision system (CVS) was developed. The CVS is able to detect part dimensions and locations. Its purpose is to make the part-setup quicker and to lower the risk of human mistakes.

Abstract:
Antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) and antibiotics reduce the net growth rate of bacterial populations they target. It is relevant to understand if effects of multiple antimicrobials are synergistic or antagonistic, in particular for AMP responses, because naturally occurring responses involve multiple AMPs. There are several competing proposals describing how multiple types of antimicrobials add up when applied in combination, such as Loewe additivity or Bliss independence. These additivity terms are defined ad hoc from abstract principles explaining the supposed interaction between the antimicrobials. Here, we link these ad hoc combination terms to a mathematical model that represents the dynamics of antimicrobial molecules hitting targets on bacterial cells. In this multi-hit model, bacteria are killed when a certain number of targets are hit by antimicrobials. Using this bottom-up approach reveals that Bliss independence should be the model of choice if no interaction between antimicrobial molecules is expected. Loewe additivity, on the other hand, describes scenarios in which antimicrobials affect the same components of the cell, i.e. are not acting independently. While our approach idealizes the dynamics of antimicrobials, it provides a conceptual underpinning of the additivity terms. The choice of the additivity term is essential to determine synergy or antagonism of antimicrobials. This article is part of the themed issue ‘Evolutionary ecology of arthropod antimicrobial peptides’.

Carl Zelter, Carl Loewe, Franz Schubert, and Franz Liszt all composed settings of Goethe's famous Nachtlied “Über allen Gipfeln.” Gathering multiple layers of rhyme and rhythm, Goethe's poem achieves a rare cogency that invests every syllable with musical significance. Each of the composed settings reflects this process of gathering in different ways, from Zelter's lulling rhythms and Loewe's processional harmonies to Schubert's landscape of echoes and Liszt's drama of cosmic assimilation. Thus this monad of a poem allows each composer to set afresh the temporal and spatial coordinates of human mortality.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Synergy is one of the governing principles of the natural world, and is one of the reasons for the increasing complexity of the evolutionary process. Broadly speaking, it relates to the cooperative effects produced by the interaction between various forces, elements, parts or individuals in a given context. Since the last century, some clinical studies have described the increased efficiency of a combination of drugs. To study the effects of the drug interactions, the most commonly cited model is that of Loewe, and the classical graphical representation is the iso-effect curve (isobologram). Plants contain an enormous diversity of specialized micromolecules, therefore there is a high likelihood of interactions between them. Through recent synergy studies, various synergistic interactions have been demonstrated among extracts of different plants, and between components of the same extract.

Abstract:
Theater in Russia has for a long time neither cultivated nor encouraged the pursuit of entertainment and commercial success. Perhaps that is why, the first attempts to integrate the musical into the Russian theater environment ended in failure. "My Fair Lady" by F. Loewe, staged at the Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko Theatre, "Avtograd–1929", staged at the Satire Theater and the "Chicago" musical, after several performances, were removed from the repertoire or, like enterprise productions, ceased to exist. The purpose of this research is to determine the reasons for the growing popularity of the literary musical in Russia. The article examines the development of literary musical through the work of its outstanding representatives, composers R. Ignatiev and K. Breitburg. Scientific novelty of the work lies in the study of previously unpopular classical literature samples, which are the basis for the modern musical theatre genre.

Abstract:

Libertad y coronavirus; 3. Coronavirus y utilidade; 4. Deberes y coronavirus; e 5. El fin del mundo.

Abstract:
Long-acting (LA) anti-HIV regimens show promise for increasing dosing intervals and consequently, improving the patients’ quality of life. The first FDA-approved LA therapy is Cabenuva, which comprises rilpivirine (a non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor) and cabotegravir (integrase strand transfer inhibitor). Novel promising LA anti-HIV agents such as lenacapavir (a capsid-targeting antiviral) and islatravir (EFdA, a nucleoside reverse transcriptase translocation inhibitor) need to be explored as combination therapies. Therefore, we sought to determine whether combination of lenacapavir with islatravir, rilpivirine, or cabotegravir displayed synergy, additivity, or antagonism. We performed dose-response matrices of these drug combinations in an HIV-1 reporter cell line and subsequently analyzed the data with SynergyFinder Plus, which employs four major drug interaction models: highest single agent, Bliss independence, Loewe additivity, and zero interaction potency. Most of these models predict additive inhibition by the studied drug combinations This work highlights the importance of effective drug combinations in LA-regimens.

Abstract:
AbstractThis article examines the development of early imperial ancestral shrines by exploring the Liye and Yuelu 嶽麓 Qin slips, along with other excavated texts and historical documents. It argues that Qin Shihuang's 秦始皇 court was the first to specify the regulations for the early imperial ancestral shrine, a crucial part of which was the establishment of the Taishang huang 太上皇 shrines throughout the realm, making the imperial ancestral cult part of the daily local administrative affairs. The Western Han courts largely adopted the regulations stipulated by Qin Shihuang in their commandery and kingdom shrines until late Western Han, when ritual reforms brought the imperial ancestral shrines closer to what Michael Loewe calls the Reformist vision, entailing potential conflicts between bloodlines and the hereditary order of succession. By no means did the early empires simply continue in the stipulations for the imperial ancestral shrines the royal practices of the pre-imperial period; instead, the precedents transmitted to Eastern Han reflected two major ritual reforms, with local ancestral shrines and personal participation by the emperor key subjects of debates.

Abstract:
In human perception, as well as in machine vision, a crucial step in solving any object recognition task is an appropriate description of the object class under consideration. We emphasise this issue when considering the object class ‘human faces’. We discuss different representations that can be characterised by the degree of alignment between the images they provide for. The representations used span the whole range between a purely pixel-based image representation and a sophisticated model-based representation derived from the pixel-to-pixel correspondence between the faces [Vetter and Troje, 1995, in Mustererkennung Eds G Sagerer, S Posch, F Kummert (Berlin: Springer)]. The usefulness of these representations for sex classification was compared. This was done by first applying a Karhunen — Loewe transformation on the representation to orthogonalise the data. A linear classifier was trained by means of a gradient-descent procedure. The classification error in a completely cross-validated simulation ranged from 15% in the simplest version of the pixel-based representation to 2.5% for the correspondence-based representation. However, even with intermediate representations very good performance was achieved.

Abstract:
Economically important viruses such as Tomato spotted wilt virus, genus Tospovirus, are transmissible mechanically and mainly by two thrips species (Thrips tabaci and Frankliniella occidentalis) in Hungary (1). Samples (31) of eight ornamental plant species (Catharanthus roseus, Cyclamen persicum, Dendranthema × grandiflorum, Eustoma grandiflorum, Gerbera sp., Impatiens walleriana, Ocimum basilicum, and Verbena hybrida) were studied. Symptoms including color breaking on flowers and necrotic symptoms on leaves were observed on four samples (C. persicum, I. walleriana, O. basilicum, and E. grandiflorum). Infection by Impatiens necrotic spot virus (INSV) was determined by double-antibody sandwich-ELISA and triple-antibody sandwich-ELISA using antisera obtained from Loewe (Sauerlach, Germany) and the DSMZ. Back inoculation with the F. occidentalis vector was also carried out to Lycopersicon esculentum as indicator plants. Back inoculation was also positive for INSV by symptoms and ELISA. The high amount of ornamental plant production together with the use of virus-infected propagation material and the increasing thrips vector populations may result in significantly increased establishment and distribution of INSV in Hungary. Abstract:
Two begomovirus species, Tomato yellow leaf curl Sardinia virus (TYLCSV) and Tomato yellow leaf curl virus (TYLCV), have been identified as causal agents of tomato yellow leaf curl disease (TYLCD) in Spain. TYLCSV was reported in Spain in 1992 and TYLCV in 1997 on tomato crops (3). TYLCV was also reported in common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) and pepper (Capsicum annuum L.) crops in southern Spain in 1997 and 1999, respectively. During the summer of 2004, symptoms of yellowing, crumpling, and necrosis of new leaves were observed sporadically in young, field-grown tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum L.) plants in the Badajoz Province. These tobacco plants were next to tomato crops where TYLCV was detected for the first time in Badajoz in 2003. In September 2004, four symptomatic tobacco plants were selected for double antibody sandwich enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (DAS-ELISA) and polymerase chain reaction (PCR) identification analyses. Serological analyses were carried out in two repetitions and with the following polyclonal antisera: Potato virus Y (PVY) (Loewe Biochemica, Sauerlach, Germany); Tobacco mild green mosaic virus (produced in our laboratory); Tobacco mosaic virus (BIO-RAD, Marnes-La-Coquette, France); and Tomato spotted wilt virus (Loewe Biochemica). A simplified method of duplex PCR was used for a rapid, sensitive, and simultaneous detection of TYLCSV and TYLCV (2). Mixed infections of PVY and TYLCV were detected in all four tobacco samples tested. TYLCV infection was confirmed using the primer pair TY-1/TY-2 specific for the coat protein (CP) gene of begomoviruses (1). The CP fragment was digested with the restriction enzyme AvaII, and the pattern obtained corresponded to that obtained from TYLCV-infected tomato that served as a positive control. Two PCR products from different tobacco samples were sequenced and both showed 100% identity with the corresponding region (Almería) of TYLCV (GenBank Accession No. AJ489258) and 99% with TYLCV-Mild (Spain) (GenBank Accession No. AJ519441), confirming the diagnosis. The symptoms observed in the tobacco plants can not be attributed solely to TYLCV since the virus was present in a mixed infection with PVY. However, tobacco infected with TYLCV may serve as an important alternate host for TYLCV in the tomato cropping system. To our knowledge, this is the first report of N. tabacum as a natural host of TYLCV in Spain. References: (1) G. P. Accotto et al. Eur. J. Plant Pathol. 106:179, 2000. (2) P. Martínez-Culebras et al. Abstract:
Studies into drug combination at low doses are a promising approach to the management of pain and inflammation. The aim of this study was to evaluate the anti-edema and anti-hyperalgesic effects of a combination of diclofenac and andrographolide. Male Sprague-Dawley rats were first treated with diclofenac or andrographolide alone (3–100 mg/kg), as well as a combination of the 2 drugs. Carrageenan was then injected into the right hind paw of rats, and changes in paw volume and sensitivity to mechanical (von Frey) and thermal (Hargreaves test) stimuli measured. Results showed drug combination produced synergistic effects at reducing paw edema especially at lower doses, with a Loewe synergy score of 13.02 ± 8.75 in SynergyFinder and a combination index of .41 ± .18 after isobolographic analysis. Again synergy scores for decreasing response to 1.0 and 3.6 g force application of von Frey filaments after drug combination were 10.127 ± 5.68 and 8.554 ± 6.53, respectively, in SynergyFinder. Synergistic effects were also seen after drug combination in the Hargreaves test with a synergy score of 5.136 ± 16.38. In conclusion, combination of diclofenac with andrographolide showed better pharmacologic effects after carrageenan injection and was more synergistic at low-dose combinations.
