Abstract:
ABSTRACTThe constant renewal of image is part of the intrinsic essence of fashion itself. This rewenal is not possible without prior analysis of the past or, in other words, tradition. So, in many cases, tradition has become the key to the modernization of a brand´s identity and even the key to its success. In order to show how tradition influences the evolution of the brand image, the future communication aims to address the case study of Loewe as an example of this phenomenon. This research will address this issue through the study of the evolution of Loewe´s image, comparing the period of time from 1956 —when it started the renewal process of the firm towards modernity by Javier Carvajal and Vicente Vela among others—, until the present day —focused on the recovery of that brilliant age with Jonathan Anderson as creative director—. This research shows the importance of tradition in the evolution of the brand´s image, analyzing the three design levels through which Loewe´s renewal occurs: its shops, its logo and its products. Thus, this paper will shed new light on the importance of valuing tradition in the image of fashion business, in order to bring new ideas applicable to other current cases.RESUMENLa constante renovación de su imagen forma parte de la propia esencia intrínseca de la moda.

Abstract:
AbstractSoon to celebrate his centennial year, Michael Loewe is certainly the most eminent Han historian today. Without his numerous publications—including not only such foundational reference works as The Biographical Dictionary of Qin and Western Han and Early Chinese Texts but also a wide range of more specialized studies—it is hard to imagine how the once-neglected field of Han history could have garnered such respect among scholars in allied fields in Euro-America and abroad. In these introductory remarks, we reflect on Michael Loewe's distinguished contributions to the field of early Chinese history over several decades and his extraordinary record as teacher. We draw special attention to several ways in which Professor Loewe's work continues to challenge such outdated and anachronistic paradigms as “Confucianism,” and we note the careful ways he correlates received, “found,” and excavated sources. We conclude the introduction with a set of reflections situating Professor Loewe as teacher within a distinguished Sinological lineage.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Objectives: Leptadenia hastata (Pers) Decne (Apocynaceae) is a common medicinal plant used in northern Nigeria either singly or together with conventional drugs to treat diabetes. This study investigated the influence of concurrent administration of the methanol leaf extract of L. hastata with metformin in streptozotocin/ nicotinamide-induced diabetic rats. Materials and Methods: Possible synergistic activity between the extract and metformin was assessed using 3 models of synergy analysis (Loewe additivity, Bliss independent and highest single agent [HSA] models). Eleven groups of Wistar rats (eight animals per group) consisting of ten groups of diabetic rats and one normal control group were used in this study. Six groups were administered with either the extract or metformin at three different doses each (50, 150 and 500 mg/kg for the extract and 30, 100 and 300 mg/kg for metformin), while another three groups were co-administered with the extract and metformin at three different ratios each (50 mg/kg: 30 mg/ kg, 150 mg/kg: 100 mg/kg and 500 mg/kg: 300 mg/kg). An oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) was conducted at baseline and on day 14. Result: The results revealed that the extract-metformin combination brought about a synergistic reduction in the total area under the OGTT curve (based on Loewe and HSA models) as well as a synergistic reduction in blood glucose (based on Loewe, Bliss and HSA models). Conclusion: The methanol leaf extract of L. hastata produced a synergistic antidiabetic activity in streptozotocin/ nicotinamide-induced diabetic rats when combined with metformin.

Loewe, Baranger Sonia.

Full text
Abstract:
Despite the extensive literature concerning architects of the Modern Movement and debates on the Avant-Garde, several works of architects and artists remain unstudied. The commitments of these individuals contributed to the birth of the Avant-Garde Movement, opening the door for the flourishing of the Modern Movement. This thesis was developed and inspired by the works of two artists, architect Michael Loewe (1871 -1955) and his daughter, the artist Margot Loewe (1905-1974). These artists' work allows us to recognize how these two generations were interwined and contributed the same ideals, as well as how the dialogues between technique and art and between art and industry led to new spaces and new ways of living. This research project was conducted in Berlin, a cultural center of confrontation between tradition and modernity and a city that is in search of a new architectural identity. Berlin represents a major urban and social laboratory that changed from a small provincial capital into a metropolis between 1871 and 1933. This study anlyses this German architect's career, starting from is training and career as a Regierungbaumeister in the Königliche Technische Hochschule of Berlin-Charlottenburg to his architectural accomplishments that were built between 1907 and 1933. The works presented include the buildings of Bismarckstrasse 82-83 (1907), Olivaerplatz 8 (1909), Manfred-von-Richthofen-Strasse 2 (1912), Pariserstrasse 20 (1913), the housing projects of Prausestrasse 5-27 (1920) and of Kuno-Fischerstrasse 3-4-5 (1923), and Pichelwerder (1927). Regarding the works of Michael Loewe prior to World War I, we have identified an initial stage of reaction against the ornamental excess of historical styles and Jugendstil that moved between unadorned designs and geometric simplicity with clear influence from German Neoclassicism . Collaborative works with the prestigious architect-engineer Bruno Möhring were also identified in this stage. In the second stage of hi work in the years between the wars , Michael Loewe envlved and undertook early steps towards a !anguage close to the Neue Sachlichkeit, integrating his project ¡nto the landscape and exploring new technologies and new ways of living that allowed him to express himsell more freely. During his early commitment to Modernity, Michael Loewe's work elicited favorable reactions from supporters of the Neues Bauen, but he was also targeted by the opponents of the New Architecture, whose papers and positions were radicalized, and became the subject of political conflict. In Michael Loewe's work, his professional commitments emerge in favor of the New Objectivity, which raises the issue of the position of art in society and the relationships between art and craft, art and technology, and form and function . Michael Loewe's personal commitments led him to join Existenzminimum proposals, and to experience new ways of living . He encourages his daughter Margot Loewe to study between 1929 and 1933 at the Bauhaus-Dessau under the guidance of Hannes Meyer and Mies van der Rohe. The artistic trajectory of Margot Loewe that is presented corresponds to the brief period between the years of her studies at the Bauhaus-Dessau and her exile. Margot Loewe's work is understood as part of the discussion between utopian Avant-Garde and Bauhaus, as well as its context for dialogue between technology and art, where techlology enabled a new conception of space, which is a common theme in both architecture and art. The technical commitments of Michael Loewe led him to create new formal proposals and as a result of his artistic motivations, he also participated alongside his daughter Margot Loewe in new forms of subjective insight, which created visual impressions and emotions that pushed the architect to experiment with new spaces and led the artist to the abstraction of her painting.

Mierowska, Jean Elaine Nora. "The ballads of Carl Loewe : examined within their cultural, human and aesthetic context." Thesis, Rhodes University, 1989. http://eprints.ru.ac.za/2310/1/MIEROWSKA-PhD(Music)-TR90-50.pdf.

Abstract:
This thesis has been written in order to provide, especially for the non-German-reading musician, a fuller picture of Loewe and his ballads than has been available up to now. This picture is developed within the literary background history of the ballad poems, and the literary, mental, and musical climate at the beginning of the Romantic era; further, Loewe's life, as revealed in his many letters, his diaries, and his autobiography, provides the human context from which the ballads emerge as a logical extension of his personality. These earlier parts of the thesis have considerable bearing on the appreciation of Loewe's timely position in musical history, treating as they do with the popularity of the ballad poems, the rapid expansion of the means of musical/emotional expression, and the complete acceptance of that most romantic and versatile of soloinstruments, the piano. Loewe's temperamental affinity with the poetry of the ballads is shown to have affected his choice of subject, and in many cases the ultimate quality of the music is obviously dependent upon the strength or otherwise of his attraction. After observations on Loewe's vocal and piano writing, the thesis treats the ballads primarily with regard to their feeling and emotional content, and investigates the musical means by which this is conveyed. Categories are suggested, and ballads of similar dramatic, pictorial, or emotional type are discussed and compared. Certain formal characteristics are examined, in particular Loewe's use of highly organised motivic work in certain ballads, which foreshadows its later use by Liszt, Wagner and others. Over one hundred of Loewe's 120 ballads are dealt with, some in extensive detail~ and copious musical examples are given. The few comparatively well-known ballads receive due attention, but it was regarded as important to bring to light some of the more neglected or unknown ballads, many of which possess great beauty and originality, amply repaying study and, still more, performance. As a corollary, the approach of the performer is considered, and the Conclusion argues for an informed :esthetic appreciation of Loewe's ballads and their place in teday' s vocal repertoire.

Witkowski, Brian Charles. "Carl Loewe's "Gregor auf dem Stein": A Precursor to Late German Romanticism." Diss., The University of Arizona, 2011. http://hdl.handle.net/10150/217070.

Full text
Abstract:
Carl Loewe (1796-1869) was a prolific composer of works for voice and piano with an output exceeding 400 pieces. Just as Schubert pioneered Lieder as a new genre of art music in the nineteenth century, Loewe can be credited for his comparable innovation with the ballad, a narrative song that depicts a story. Though Loewe is often considered a conservative musical figure in the nineteenth century, later romantic composers like Richard Wagner and Hugo Wolf held his ballads in high regard, as they show Loewe's compositional originality in boldly producing drama through the piano-singer format. This document displays how Loewe in his ballad cycle Gregor auf dem Stein, Op. 38 (1834) creates a continuous musical drama to enhance a theological legend. This work is an example of how Loewe foreshadows aspects of later German Romanticism, more fully realized by Wagner and Wolf, through use of musical and dramatic continuity, progressive tonality, motives, and declamatory vocal style.

Abstract:
Existing proceeding-models for the development of mechatronic systems intend a mostly independent development of single components, like the mechanic structure, the electronics, etc., starting from a combined over-all-model. Following the understanding of adaptronics as an advancement of mechatronics in the LOEWE-Center AdRIA (AdRIA – Adaptronic - Research, Innovation and Application), a clear division of the development is not advisable, because of the high structural integration of adaptronic systems. Because of this, it’s necessary to develop the whole system by using a permanent alignment of values between the single components. This high grade of data transfer and the high number of relations between the components lead to a complexity that can only be handled by the use of a Data-Management-system. An approach for a Data-Management-System for the development of adaptronic systems by the Department of Computer Integrated Design, as part of the LOEWE-Center AdRIA, intends to extend the functionality of existing Product-Data-Management-Systems. The idea is to model the over-all system in the Data-Management-System at first, using the partitioning of the system into the five elements of active structures: excitations, structural components, actuator systems, sensor systems and signal processing. Furthermore the characteristic parameters of single components and the correlations between these parameters are captured. In addition the requirements of the adaptronic systems are captured and deposited in the DataManagement-System (DM-System). An integration-layer is used, to integrate the data and models of the different disciplines to the DM-System and to the generated over-all model, during the development of the adaptronic system. The database of the DM-System contains a standardized over-all-simulation model of the adaptronic system, which uses the same partitioning of the system to the different elements as the overall-system model. The consistent structure of the system-model, simulation-model and integration-layer is used for an automated over-all-simulation of the adaptronic system. Using the automated over-all-simulation changes in the adaptronic-system-behavior can be calculated, when changes in single components become available. Using the deposited requirements, these changes can also be valued. An analysis of existing proceeding-models for the development of mechatronic systems shows, that they are only partly suitable for use in the given approach. Therefore a new proceeding model was developed as an advancement of existing models. The new model shows an equitable solution for the development of adaptronic structures by using Data-Management-Systems.
