Abstract:
Using solid building models, instead of the surface models in City Geography Markup Language (CityGML), can facilitate data integration between Building Information Modeling (BIM) and Geographic Information System (GIS). The use of solid models, however, introduces a problem of model simplification on the GIS side. The aim of this study is to solve this problem by developing a framework for generating simplified solid building models from BIM. In this framework, a set of Level of Details (LoDs) were first defined to suit solid building models—referred to as s-LoD, ranging from s-LoD1 to s-LoD4—and three unique problems in implementing s-LoDs were identified and solved by using a semantics-based approach, including identifying external objects for s-LoD2 and s-LoD3, distinguishing various slabs, and generating valid external walls for s-LoD2 and s-LoD3. The feasibility of the framework was validated by using BIM models, and the result shows that using semantics from BIM can make it easier to convert and simplify building models, which in turn makes BIM information more practical in GIS.

Abstract:
This article narrates California's chemically induced second gold rush through the lens of synthetic cyanide. In coupling California's geological, environmental, and economic history to the changing nature of gold ore in the late 1880s, it explores the role that the development of cyanide leaching and the industrialization of cyanide production had on California's mining landscapes. As such, it places California as a critical node in the globalization of cyanide leaching techniques. In doing so, it links disparate geographies and histories together to explore the chemicalization of California gold mining.

Abstract:
The alteration of platinum group minerals (PGM) of eluval, proximal, and distal placers associated with the Ural-Alaskan type clinopyroxenite-dunite massifs were studied. The Isovsko-Turinskaya placer system is unique regarding its size, and was chosen as research object as it is PGM-bearing for more than 70 km from its lode source, the Ural-Alaskan type Svetloborsky massif, Middle Urals. Lode chromite-platinum ore zones located in the Southern part of the dunite “core” of the Svetloborsky massif are considered as the PGM lode source. For the studies, PGM concentrates were prepared from the heavy concentrates which were sampled at different distances from the lode source. Eluvial placers are situated directly above the ore zones, and the PGM transport distance does not exceed 10 m. Travyanistyi proximal placer is considered as an example of alluvial ravine placer with the PGM transport distance from 0.5 to 2.5 km. The Glubokinskoe distal placer located in the vicinity of the Is settlement are chosen as the object with the longest PGM transport distance (30–35 km from the lode source). Pt-Fe alloys, and in particular, isoferroplatinum prevail in the lode ores and placers with different PGM transport distance. In some cases, isoferroplatinum is substituted by tetraferroplatinum and tulameenite in the grain marginal parts. Os-Ir-(Ru) alloys, erlichmanite, laurite, kashinite, bowieite, and Ir-Rh thiospinels are found as inclusions in Pt-Fe minerals. As a result of the study, it was found that the greatest contribution to the formation of the placer objects is made by the erosion of chromite-platinum mineralized zones in dunites. At a distance of more than 10 km, the degree of PGM mechanical attrition becomes significant, and the morphological features, characteristic of lode platinum, are practically not preserved. One of the signs of the significant PGM transport distance in the placers is the absence of rims composed of the tetraferroplatinum group minerals around primary Pt-Fez alloys. The sie of the nuggets decreases with the increasing transport distance. The composition of isoferroplatinum from the placers and lode chromite-platinum ore zones are geochemically similar.

The hot rolling processes of slabs have been simulated by 3-D explicit dynamics Thermal-mechanical Finite Element Model (FEM) to solve the problems of edge defects. It can analyze the deformation characteristics of rolling slabs, calculate Lode parameter values in rolling deformation zone and analyze the stress-strain state in the entrance and exit of the slabs edge. Because there are the relationship between plastic deformation types and Lode parameter, and the quantitative relation metal flow and various Lode parameter. Results showed that there are complicated metal flow and various Lode parameter values in the edge of rolling deformation zone. Although there stress-strain states are various in the entrance and exit of the slab edges the μdε<0, the tensile strain increment in the direction of max principle strain was bigger than another two directions and the edges had the character of tensile deformation. This is the major cause that edge of slab is more defects than other zone.

Abstract:
Experimental investigations indicate that the third stress invariant; Lode angle α affects significantly the behavior of pressure sensitive materials. The present communication presents a formulation to account for α in isotropic pressure-sensitive elastoplastic materials. Seven Lode dependences are reviewed. A new one, referred to as LMN, in proposed to generalize Lade and Duncan, and Matsuoka and Nakai failure surfaces. The formulation is general enough to introduce α into the isotropic elastoplastic modes which are only developed in terms of first and second-stress invariants. As an illustration, several Lode dependences are introduced into Roscoe and Burland model. The performance of the modified model is estimated by comparing experimental and analytical results in the case of true triaxial loadings on normally consolidated clay.

Abstract:
The Marvel Loch mine in the Archean Yilgarn Block. Western Australia, has produced 9.70 t gold and 1.92 t silver from 3.28 × 106 t of oxide–sulphide ore. The deposit is located in the Southern Cross greenstone belt, and occurs within the medium-grade metamorphic aureole of the Ghooli Dome granitoid batholith, about 1.5 km from the granitoid–greenstone contact, The deposit is controlled by a broad ductile shear zone and spatially associated with late syn- to post-mineralization pegmatite dykes. The major orebodies, represented by the Savage Lode, are hosted by a uniform sequence of metakomatiites, and form zoned replacement bodies oriented subparallel to the steeply dipping foliation of the shear zone. Lens-shaped domains of pillowed metakomatiiles (hornblende + cummingtonite + chlorite) are locally preserved between the orebodies. The gangue of the Savage Lode is laterally zoned, and shows distinct similarities to Phanerozoic magnesian skarns. Calcite–olivine rock and calcite–phlogopite–chlorite schist occur in the centre, and are enveloped by three types of calcite-poor ore, namely banded diopside–amphibole rock, quartz–diopside veins, and tremolite–phlogopite schist. The latter grades laterally into subeconomic, outer tremolite–chlorite schists. Local retrogression of prograde alteration minerals is evident in the partial replacement of olivine by iddingsite and serpentine, and in the occurrence of late muscovite, clinozoisite, and prehnite. The gangue in the lode reflects strong carbon dioxide, calcium, and potassium metasomatism.Hydrothermal oxides and sulphides (2–5 vol.%) occur disseminated throughout the Savage Lode. The oxide assemblage includes hercynite–spinel, magnetite, ilmenite, and scheelite, whereas the sulphide assemblage is dominated by pyrrhotite, loellingite, and arsenopyrite. Native gold occurs as discrete grains (0.001–3 mm) intergrown with sulphides or enclosed in gangue minerals. The average magnesian ore skarn is characterized by a MgO–FeO ratio of 2.0:1, a Au–Ag ratio of 1.7:1, and low base metal (< 500 ppm), anomalous tungsten (20–40 ppm), and high arsenic (2900 ppm) contents. The Savage and other lodes in the Marvel Loch mine may be classified as gold or gold–silver skarns by economic metal content. The magnesian rather than calcic nature of the Marvel Loch skarns is related to the high magnesium content (21 wt.% MgO) of the precursor metakomatiite rocks.

Abstract:
AbstractAccuracy of numerical analysis is always important but it is much more important in failure analysis of ductile materials. In ductile materials, the process of removing the effects of necking to obtain stress-strain curve usually need reverse identification methods which are based on iterative finite element analysis. Moreover, triaxiality factor and Lode angle (two parameters that control failure of ductile materials) are obtained from finite element analysis. In this article based on some experiments, the effect of triaxiality factor and Lode angle on the failure strain of X100 pipeline steel is studied. In order to gain a better understanding of the response of triaxiality and Lode angle to deviations of stress, a sensitivity analysis is done on these two parameters before the start of finite elements (FE) analysis. This sensitivity analysis shows that the two parameters are really sensitive to stress deviations in some areas. Three geometries are selected and their FE analysis shows that it is necessary to reduce the element size lower than what is reported in literature in order to get convergence in triaxiality factor and Lode angle in critical areas.

Abstract:
The widespread Von Mises plasticity model fails to take the hydrostatic and the Lode angle effects into account and the assumption of this model is not valid for all types of metallic alloys. Hence in the present work the applicability of the Von Mises plasticity model in applications on a Ti-6Al-4V Titanium alloy have been analysed. A virtual test methodology, combination of experiments and numerical analysis have been developed. For this purpose various tensile tests on different specimen shapes have been carried out experimentally. These tests have been subsequently numerically reproduced to calibrate a constitutive law which fits every single test best, highlighting the possible effect of triaxiality and Lode angle on plasticity (strain hardening behaviour). An analysis of the specimen fracture surfaces have been carried out to evaluate possible effect of triaxiality and Lode angle down to a microscopic level.

Abstract:
Variety of metals are complex materials exhibiting various behavior under different loading. Many metallic materials exhibit Tresca-like behavior rather than von Mises. It means different behavior in tension under plane strain and uniaxial stress conditions. This might be described by Lode dependent plasticity which should result in better prediction in force or torque responses of material tests. Good agreement between computation and experiment is also very important when calibrating the ductile fracture criteria. Several tests under plane strain and uniaxial stress states were carried out on aluminum alloy 2024-T351 where the Lode dependency was significant. The Lode dependent plasticity was implemented along with von Mises and Tresca-like yield criteria, which resulted in improvement of force–displacement responses of plane strain tests simulations. But it also caused significant change in the stress state of tensile flat and grooved plates which wrongly approached uniaxial tension condition. This inconvenience prevents plane strain experiments from using for calibration of ductile fracture criteria under these circumstances.

Abstract:
To investigate the influence of stress Lode angle on frozen soil, a series of directional shear tests was conducted on artificial frozen clay at three temperatures (–6, –10, and –15 °C) and five stress Lode angles (θσ = –30°, –16.1°, 0°, 16.1°, and 30°) using a hollow cylindrical apparatus. An elliptical function was proposed according to the strength envelope evaluation with the mean principal stress (p) in the p–q plane. In addition, generalized nonlinear strength theory (GNST) was introduced in the π plane to describe the evolution of the strength envelope with increasing mean principal stress. Then a strength criterion for frozen clay in three-dimensional principal stress space was proposed by combining strength functions in the p–q and π planes. The temperature effect was also introduced into the strength criterion. The proposed strength criterion can predict the multi-axial strength characteristics of frozen clay and reveal the influence of the stress Lode angle.

<p><strong>Abstract.</strong> The main aim of the research being conducted is to automatically derive multiple representation database through model generalisation. In this regard, this paper presents a detailed methodology of the derivation process of multiple representation database. The topographic information of three different levels of detail (LoDs) viz., LoD1 (1&amp;thinsp;:&amp;thinsp;10,000), LoD2 (1&amp;thinsp;:&amp;thinsp;25,000) and LoD3 (1&amp;thinsp;:&amp;thinsp;250,000) are considered for this research. The abstract LoDs, i.e., LoD2 and LoD3 are derived automatically by model generalisation. The method for linking corresponding features in all these LoDs is shown and thus deriving multiple representation database. The major component of the proposed methodology is the model generalisation process. The design of the model generalisation process which includes generalisation operators, classification hierarchies, geometric constraints, functional hierarchies and topological constraints are discussed in this article. The proposed methodology is currently in the implementation stage.</p>

Abstract:
To demonstrate the importance of incorporating Lode angle into fracture criterion in predicting the penetration resistance of high-strength steel plates, ballistic tests of blunt-nosed projectiles with a diameter of 5.95 mm impacted 4 mm thick Weldox 900 E steel plates were conducted. Impacting velocity range was 136.63~381.42 m/s. The fracture behavior and the ballistic limit velocities (BLVs) were obtained by fitting the initial-residual velocities of the projectiles. Subsequently, axisymmetric finite element (FE) models parallel to the tests were built by using Abaqus/Explicit software, and the Lode-independent Johnson–Cook (JC) and the Lode-dependent ASCE fracture criterion were incorporated into the finite element model for numerical simulation. Meanwhile, to verify the sensitivity of the mesh size in the numerical simulation, different mesh sizes were used in the shear plug area of the target. It can be found that Weldox 900 E steel has obvious mesh size sensitivity by comparing the experimental results and numerical simulation, and the JC fracture criterion and the ASCE fracture criterion predicted similar BLV for the same mesh size.

Abstract:
This paper assesses various newly developed ductile fracture criteria including modified Mohr-Coulomb (MMC), DF2012, DF2014, DF2016, Hu-Chen and Mu-Zang, which were all proposed in the last decade. The AA2024-T351 is used for the assessment by comparing the predicted fracture limits to the experimental results both in strain and stress spaces. Fracture loci are also constructed by these criteria to evaluate their characteristics. The evaluation demonstrates that the Lode parameter and stress triaxiality should be properly coupled for reasonable modeling of ductile fracture in wide loading conditions. This study also shows that the coupling of the Lode parameter can also be realized by introducing the effect of the largest shear stress in fracture criteria.

Abstract:
The present research aims at assessing and comparing the damage evolution in a structural steel, mainly used in pipeline applications, both under quasi-static and dynamic conditions. Accordingly to the core of the literature related to plastic damage modelling, two key parameters must be controlled in the tests: the stress triaxiality and the Lode angle, both depending on the stress state. Either strongly affect the material strain to failure. Hence, different specimen geometries are needed to test the material in the desired ranges of these parameters. In this work, three kinds of geometries typically used in static tests, i.e. round and notched cylindrical, and thin rectangular, have been considered and adapted to an available Hopkinson bar facility. The shape of the specimens (diameter, fillet/notch radius, thickness, gauge length) and the incident pulse intensity have been studied within a multi-objective optimization scheme, in order to achieve similar strain rates for the three kinds of tests, with nearly constant time histories of strain rate, triaxiality and Lode angle during deformation. More specifically, the adopted solutions permitted to achieve an average strain rate of 3500 s-1, with varying triaxialities from 0.5 to 1.2, Lode angles from 0.5 to 1 and strains to failure from 0.8 to 1.5.

Abstract:
A micromechanics model based on the theoretical framework of plastic localization into a band introduced by Rice [1] is developed. The model employed consists of a planar band with a square array of equally sized cells, with a spherical void located in the centre of each cell. The micromechanics model is applied to analyze the rupture mechanisms associated with mixed mode ductile fracture. The stress state is characterized by the stress triaxiality T and the Lode parameter μ, which adequately describe the stress state ahead of a crack tip under mixed mode loading of an isotropic elasto-plastic material. The main focus is the influence of μ on void growth and coalescence behavior. It is shown that the Lode parameter exerts a strong influence upon this behavior.

Abstract:
The problem of perforation of free circular plates made of 2024-T3(51) aluminum alloy or its Russian analogue D16(A)T with various thicknesses normally impacted at their centers by a rigid spherical projectile is considered. The considered problem is numerically simulated through the finite element method utilizing phenomenological pressure- and Lode-dependent yield and fracture criteria along with an associated flow rule and a linear damage accumulation law to describe the target material deformation and fracture. Comparison of the obtained results with the experimental data as well as with the numerical results calculated using less sophisticated phenomenological material models is made. Necessity of a yield criterion pressure and Lode dependence to provide accuracy of numerical simulation is assessed.

Abstract:
Based on the variation range of the stress lode angle, the in situ rock stress is divided into σ v -type stress field, σ H -type stress field, and σ h -type stress field. Through theoretical analysis, the principal stress difference distribution law and plastic zone distribution pattern around the roadway in different types of stress fields are obtained. Theoretical and numerical simulation calculation results show that under different stress lode angle conditions, the principal stress difference distribution of the surrounding rock of the roadway is greatly different, which has a direct effect on the shape and range of the plastic zone of the surrounding rock of the roadway. In the σ v -type stress field and the σ H -type stress field, the shape of the plastic zone of the roadway surrounding rock is mainly oval and “butterfly,” while in the σ h -type stress field, the shape of the plastic zone of the roadway surrounding rock is mainly oval. The laboratory test proves that the stress gradient has an important effect on the damage degree of the surrounding rock of the roadway. The larger the stress gradient, the higher the strength of the rock mass and the more severe the damage. The change of the stress lode angle will affect the distribution law of the stress gradient of the surrounding rock of the roadway, thus affecting the degree of fragmentation of the surrounding rock. In type σ v and type σ H stress fields, the surrounding rock of the shoulder can be regarded as a key part of the roadway. In the σ h -type stress field, the plastic zones of the surrounding rocks of the roadway are more evenly distributed, and the damage range is less affected by θ. The influence law of the stress lode angle on the stability of the roadway has been well verified by field observation, and effective support measures have been proposed.
