Abstract:
This thesis presents rules that characterize the root locus for polynomials that are nonlinear in the root-locus parameter k. Classical root locus applies to polynomials that are affine in k. In contrast, this thesis considers polynomials that are quadratic or cubic in k. In particular, we focus on constructing the root locus for linear feedback control systems, where the closed-loop denominator polynomial is quadratic or cubic in k. First, we present quadratic root-locus rules for a controller class that yields a closed-loop denominator polynomial that is quadratic in k. Next, we develop cubic root-locus rules for a controller class that yields a closed-loop denominator polynomial that is cubic in k. Finally, we extend the quadratic root-locus rules to accommodate a larger class of controllers. We also provide controller design examples to demonstrate the quadratic and cubic root locus. For example, we show that the triple integrator can be high-gain stabilized using a controller that yields a closed-loop denominator polynomial that is quadratic in k. Similarly, we show that the quadruple integrator can be high-gain stabilized using a controller that yields a closed-loop denominator polynomial that is cubic in k.

Abstract:
The study aimed to investigate whether there are correlations between conscientiousness, Lo-cus of Control and job motivation, and if age and length of service predict job motivation. The study comprised 63 staff (28 women and 35 men) at a telecommunications company in Swe-den. To study conscientiousness, we used a self-constructed test with good internal homo-geneity, Cronbach's alpha = .85. To study Locus of Control and job motivation we used al-ready developed tests, with high validity and reliability, created by Rotter (1966) and Cam-mann, Fichman, Jenkins and Klesh ( in Bowling & Hammond 2008). Statistical tests, using both bivariate correlations such as Spearman's rho and standard and hierarchical MRA showed significant relationship between conscientiousness and job motivation. Using stan-dard MRA shows that only conscientiousness predicts aspects of motivation. Neither age nor length of service predicted aspects of motivation, which is not consistent with previous re-search. The discussion is carried on effect on the outcome in relation to previous research.

Abstract:
Resultatet visades i första hand gälla förstfödda män.

Abstract:
Counterfactual thinking is the tendency to view events that can easily be imagined otherwise as events that ought not to have been (Miller & Turnbull, 1990). Thirty-six male and sixty-five female subjects from introductory psychology courses completed a counterfactual thinking questionnaire and two personality measures assessing locus of control (Rotter Locus of Control Scale) and self-esteem (Texas Social Behavior Inventory). Results supported the hypothesis that people are more likely to generate counterfactual thoughts when their actions are perceived as easily mutable or when an event is easily imagined otherwise. Results also indicated that women were more likely to mutate events than were men. Finally, participants with high self-esteem were more likely to mutate events than were participants with low self-esteem. Results provided no evidence for a relationship between counterfactual thinking and locus of control. Factors that might have reduced the impact of the individual difference variables are considered.

Abstract: This dissertation, in alternate format, with the presentation of a chapter addresses the theme of early weaning. Early weaning has numerous disadvantages for the child and the mother, being associated with increased infant morbidity and mortality. It is estimated that 1.5 million infants will die due to inadequate nutrition, introduced before the sixth month of life. The objective of this study was to evaluate the association between early weaning, pre and postnatal variables and Mother's locus of control. A retrospective cohort study was performed using instruments that investigated the socioeconomic and demographic indicators, pre variables and postpartum, and the multidimensional scale of Levenson's locus of control. The sample consisted of 410 mothers of children aged 0-5 years who were present on the day of national childhood immunization campaign against polio, held in June 2013, the Health Department of the city of Piracicaba-SP . Statistical analysis was performed using hierarchical multiple logistic regression, evaluating the association between the dependent variable, early weaning and the following socio-demographic independent variables: family income, number of people in the home, housing, degree of maternal and paternal education , householder and profession of parents. The variables related to early weaning and pre and post-delivery were maternal and paternal age, marital status, age and child gender, parity, breastfeeding experience and information on the initiation of prenatal care, type of delivery, problems during childbirth with the mother and / or with the child, remained in the accommodation, initiation of breastfeeding, access to information on breastfeeding and lactation management, desire to breastfeed, unplanned pregnancy, breast complications, pacifier use and bottle, return to work and grandmother participation. The scale Levenson, composed of three subscales - internality, other powerful external and external to chance. These variables were divided into blocks, the first composed of maternal characteristics, the second by Baby Birth characteristics and the third involving baby characteristics and care. In this way, were tested in the multilevel model variables with p?0,20 of each block, remaining in the model those who remained associated with weaning with p = 0.05 after adjustment for the variables of the same block and ending with the hierarchically superior. The results showed that the prevalence of early weaning was 40%. Statistically significant association between early weaning and the variable low maternal education (95% CI = 1.18 to 3.22; p = 0.0131), no previous experience in nursing (95% CI = 3.76 to 9, 75, p = <0.0001) and pacifier use (95% CI = 1.78 to 4.17; p = <0.0001). There was no association between the type of locus of control and early weaning. It was found to have higher levels of maternal education, previous experience in breastfeeding and not offer child pacifiers are protective factors for breastfeeding

Caselman, Gabrielle, and Julia Dodd. "An Exploration of Locus of Control: The Mediating Effect of Locus of Control Among Victims of Sexual Trauma." Digital Commons @ East Tennessee State University, 2019. https://dc.etsu.edu/etsu-works/7330.

Full text
Abstract:
Locus of control has been associated with health outcomes (Donham et al., 1983; Holder & Levi, 1988) as well as interactions with the health care field (Christensen et al., 1996) and has independently predicted health outcomes among victims of sexual trauma (Simoni & Ng, 2002). As such, it may help to explain adverse health outcomes associated with sexual trauma. The current study sought to examine the potential mediating factor that an individual’s locus of control may have on the relationship between history of sexual trauma and health outcomes/health care interactions. Locus of control was measured via the Levenson Locus of Control Scales (Levenson, 1981) which divides locus of control into three subscales: internal locus of control, powerful others, and chance. Among a sample of women aged 18-50 years old (N = 753), an internal locus of control significantly mediated the relationship between sexual trauma and health outcomes (somatic symptoms, self-rated health, depression, and anxiety) as well as the relationship between sexual trauma and health care interactions (an individual’s level of medical mistrust and medical nonadherence). While each external locus of control scale did significantly predict outcomes, they were not significant mediators. Findings indicate the importance of internal locus of control in understanding sexual trauma’s effect on health outcomes.

Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between children's locus of control and parental locus of control and attitudes toward warmth and control in child-rearing. It was hoped that the degree to which the parent variables were related to children's locus of control would be useful in suggesting specific emphases for parent training and counseling.;The subjects chosen for this research were public school children attending fourth, fifth, or sixth grades in an eastern Virginia school system and their parents. The sample was limited to 233 volunteers from middle to upper socioeconomic two-parent homes.;Participating parents completed three self-report measures (locus of control, warmth, control), after which the students completed the children's locus of control measure. The data collected were then organized according to students' gender and locus of control score. Four groups were derived: internal males, external males, internal females, and external females. Six parent variables were then examined for each group. to investigate the research hypotheses, correlational analyses, followed by multiple regression analyses were performed.;Results of the research suggest that for only one group, "internal males", were the relationships between locus of control scores and parents' variables significant. For this group, the data suggest that males who have internal locus of control orientations may have mothers and fathers who also have internal locus of control orientations and who display a high degree of warmth or acceptance in child-rearing. It was also found that when the locus of control scores of all four groups were combined they were significantly related to fathers', but not to mothers', locus of control scores.;These relationships, while statistically significant, were extremely weak. This suggests that there may be other variables (social, familial, or individual) which were not considered in this research which may interact to influence the development of children's locus of control orientations. Recommendations are given for future research which suggest the inclusion of these variables.

Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to examine how work locus of control and self-esteem relate to job satisfaction. Quantitative data were collected through an online questionnaire. The study included 126 participants who filled out the Short Index of Job Satisfaction, Work Locus of Control Scale and Rosenberg's Self-Esteem Scale. It was hypothesized that work locus of control and self-esteem would be related to job satisfaction. Multiple regression analysis showed strong relations between the variables. Work locus of control and self-esteem explained 23 % of the variance in job satisfaction, which suggests that other variables also affect job satisfaction. The result from the study was consistent with previous research indicating that internal work locus of control and self-esteem predict job satisfaction. Future research is needed to investigate how individuals’ internal locus of control and self-esteem at the workplace could be increased.
Studien omfattade totalt 126 deltagare som fyllde i Short Index of Job Satisfaction, Work Locus of Control Scale och Rosenbergs Self-Esteem Scale.

Abstract:
This thesis develops the theoretical construct of "relatedness." Relatedness is defined as a sense of connectedness or meaning which provides for acceptance and serenity in the face of "the things I cannot change" and is an empirical extension of the work of Victor Frankl in Man's Search for Meaning. To examine the possible interaction between locus of control and an hypothesized "relatedness" phenomenon, four hundred forty four students of introductory psychology at the University of Arizona were given the Rotter Social Reaction Inventory and the Antonovsky Sense of Coherence Scale. A subscale measuring relatedness was constructed by factor analysis of Rotter and Antonovsky items combined. Five subscales of the Rotter were identified by factor analysis. Correlation was performed between the Relatedness subscale and the Rotter and its various subscales. Regression procedures were applied using Relatedness and Sex as independent variables and the Rotter as the dependent variable.

Abstract:
Job satisfaction is an important concept nowadays considering people spend so much time at work. It is hard to define and it is very complex but can be seen as individuals view on values at work. Locke (1976) describes it as conditions and experiences while Kaufmann and Kaufmann (2005) describe it as an interaction between feelings and expectations among the employees. There are aspects that can link to how pleased an employee is with his work and workplace. In the following study, the relation is elucidated between Work Locus of Control and job satisfaction and between length of service and job satisfaction. Work Locus of Control means that individuals with internal WLoC consider themselves as individuals who need to control events and different situations that happen at their jobs. The ones with external WLoC put the responsibilities for different situations in extraneous circumstances (Spector, 1982). In the survey it was revealed that WLoC along with length of service significantly predicts the degree of job satisfaction (R2= ,430 , p< ,0005). The variables were examined separately and showed that WLoC significantly predict the degree of job satisfaction (R2= ,418 , p< ,0005), although length of service did not (p= ,282). Explanations to the results were discussed.

Abstract:
Despite increased access to care and interventions aimed to change health behavior, socioeconomic health disparities have remained unchanged, even for preventable illness and disease. Health behavior theories and interventions heavily rely on perceptions of control over one's fate and thus ignore populations with low perceptions of personal control. Poverty is associated with an external locus of control (LOC), while both poverty and external LOC are associated with less health protective behavior. The purpose of this quantitative study was to explore the role of LOC as an adaptive response to poverty and to discover the risks and benefits to physical and psychological health associated with LOC orientation. Using cross-sectional survey methodology, 136 adult participants from the United States were recruited through snowball sampling to anonymously complete measures of the Multidimensional Locus of Control (MLOC), the Health Promoting Lifestyles II (LPII), the Kessler Psychological Distress Scale (KP10), and a demographic questionnaire. Hierarchical regression and bivariate analyses were used to test the hypotheses. According to the study findings, chance LOC mediated the relationship between socioeconomics and health lifestyles, while external-chance was associated with less healthy lifestyle choices than external-powerful others. Internality did not offer any psychological protections from anxiety and depression for low socioeconomic populations. Implications for social change are to further the understanding of the role of perceived control on health beliefs, behavior and psychological well-being for marginalized populations to promote the development of appropriately targeted, culturally sensitive health interventions.

Abstract:
Today it seems as if each individual is responsible for choosing his/her mate. Historically, this process has been mainly regulated by culture, family and society, which make the rules and norms, and defines suitable behaviors in the mate selection process. This research aimed at constructing a scale to analyze if people consider themselves responsible for the choice of their partner and to what extent. A qualitative study using ATLAS.ti content analysis resulted in different theoretical factors. A second study sought to corroborate the theoretical factors using a principal component analysis, determining the following factors: Destiny-Predestination, Powerful Microcosm, and Internal Control factor, which explain 50.94% of the variance with 17 items. The instrument shows that the locus of control in mate choice is not a continuum that moves between internality and externality but, rather, it is multidimensional.

Abstract:
The primary objective of this research was to investigate how birth order (sibling position and gender) and leadership (leader and non-leader) determine Work Locus of Control. The sample consisted of 116 individuals answered the survey, consisting of background questions and the Work Locus of Control scale, WLCS. The results showed two significant differences between leadership and gender, regarding Work Locus of Control. Leaders and women had a higher internal Work Locus of Control than non-leaders and men, which confirmed the results from previous studies, but whit different result for women.

I undersökningen deltog 147 gymnasielever ifrån fem skolor i Kronobergs län. Nyckelord: Syskonplacering, health locus of control, intern- och extern locus of control, kön.

Abstract:
För att mäta variablerna användes Work Locus of Control-skalan, items ur Survey of Perceived Organizational Support samt Overall Job Satisfaction.
Employees' perceived control over their work situation varies from person to person and can to some extent depend on their age and how they perceive their environment in the workplace. The purpose of this study was to investigate possible connections between Work Locus of Control and Perceived Organizational Support, Job Satisfaction and age. Data collection was performed by handing out a survey to officials with administrative duties within the public and private sectors in southern Sweden. The sample consists of 74 participants (17 men and 57 women). To measure the variables, the Work Locus of Control Scale, items from the Survey of Perceived Organizational Support and Overall Job Satisfaction, were used. The survey also included background questions. A correlation analysis of the variables yielded that the work locus of control scale has significant correlations with the studied variables. The results are in line with previous research, indicating that individuals which to a greater extent perceive themselves able to control their work situation also experience higher organizational support and higher job satisfaction, and that perceived control is higher for older individuals. A multiple regression analysis shows that a high Job Satisfaction is the best predictor of an internal Work Locus of Control. The results show no significant difference in Work Locus of Control between employees in the public and private sectors.

Abstract:
Thesis (MTech(Education in the School ofTeachers Education)) --Cape Technikon, Cape Town, 1996
Students today fuce increasing demands and challenges. This has important implications for education and its relevance in a rapidly changing world. It is against this background that the problem ofsuccess or failure at tertiary level, especially in the first year of study, is particularly significant as is evident from increased interest in and research undertaken into the factors and determinants involved in success or failure. Two variables that have received considerable attention in recent studies are (1) approaches to studying and (2) locus of control. They have been investigated both as independent factors and as part of a cluster of factors, but the relationship between these two variables has not yet been explored within the technikon context. In terms of students' approaches to studying there are two important schools of thought. One model (Entwistle & Ramsden, 1983) focuses on qualitative differences between the different categories ofapproaches to studying. In terms ofthis model students are classified as either using a reproducing/surface, a meaningldeep or an achieving/strategic approach. The 'Qualitative Individual Differences' model (Meyer, Parsons & Dunne, 1990a; 1990b), emphasises the qualitative individual differences in terms ofstudents' approaches to studying. This model defines the concept ofstudy orchestration as the contextualised study approach individual or groups of students adopt. The term orchestration captures the unique nature of individual approaches to studying viewed as a qualitative responsive approach to a qualitatively perceived educational context. The first model therefore views approaches to studying mainly from the point ofview of categorical differences, whereas the second focuses on qualitative individual (across and within categories) differences. In this study students' approaches to studying were measured by the Extended Approaches to Studying Inventory (EASI), a variation on the original Approaches to Studying Inventory (ASI) developed by Entwistle & Ramsden (1983)

Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to examine personality factors related to adult divorce adjustment with a particular focus on anxiety, self esteem and locus of control.;Bowen Theory, with particular emphasis on the concept of differentiation of self, provided the theoretical rationale for this study. While Bowen related his concepts to marital and family functioning, the theory did not address the process of divorce. The present study attempted to fill a gap in the divorce literature by expanding Bowen Theory, with a primary investigative focus on adult post divorce adjustment and level of differentiation.;All 62 research subjects completed instrument packets which included a consent form, a demographic questionnaire, the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory, the Tennessee Self Concept Scale, the Rotter Internal-External Scale, The Blair Divorce Adjustment Inventory (modified version), and the Haber Level of Differentiation of Self Scale.;Data from the participants included a sample of 26 men and 36 women. A large percentage of the subjects were 20-39 years of age (67.5%), of middle class status (59%), had marriages which tended to last a duration of less than 10 years (66%), and had children under the age of 18 (46.7%). The results from the instruments indicated a sample who were internally directed, had a moderate level of self concept, and a low level of both State and Trait anxiety. When the variables of divorce adjustment and level of differentiation were computed, the results indicated that the sample exhibited high levels of differentiation and moderate to strong levels of divorce adjustment.;The Tennessee Self Concept Scale exhibited the strongest correlation coefficient when measured with both the Blair Divorce Adjustment Inventory (58%) and the Haber Level of Differentiation of Self Scale (51%). Step-wise analysis indicated that both the Tennessee with a t-ratio of 2.220 and a p-value of.030, and the Trait level of anxiety, with a t-value of {dollar}-{dollar}2.156 and a p-value of.035 resulted in high predictive values with the Blair. When the personality variables were computed with the Level of Differentiation Scale, the results were similar to the Blair analysis. The Tennessee obtained the strongest predictive value. as with divorce adjustment, self concept was the strongest predictor of level of differentiation. (Abstract shortened by UMI.).

Abstract:
Transformational leadership and employee engagement have been studied in the private sector, yet research in the nonprofit sector is scarce. Addressing this gap is important to improve nonprofit practices, as nonprofit organizations contribute to a myriad of social issues critical to positive social change. Using Burns's theory of transformational leadership, which places emphasis on motivating and inspiring performance through a shared vision and mission, the purpose of this quantitative study was to analyze the effects of transformational leadership on employee engagement in nonprofit organizations. The study also assessed whether locus of control acted as a mediating variable on employee engagement. Locus of control may explain differences in the effect of transformational leadership on engagement in those with an internal locus of control (self-motivating-lesser effect) versus an external locus of control (motivated by external forces-greater effect). Data were obtained from emailed surveys of employees of 30 nonprofit organizations (N = 155). The surveys consisted of the Multifactor Leadership Questionnaire, the Utrecht Work Engagement Scale, and the Work Locus of Control Scale. Multiple logistic regression revealed a significant positive relationship between transformational leadership and employee engagement. No significant evidence was found to indicate that locus of control acted as a mediating variable with regard to engagement. Understanding the effect of transformational leadership on employee engagement may enable nonprofit organizations to improve their effectiveness in programs and services, thereby contributing to positive social change.

Abstract:
The relationship between the business-formation process and the use of government or outside counselling is examined, by differentiating, among a total group of 78 small-firm owners, between those who created their ventures and those who bought them. The group of venture initiators was found as having requested government help in one-third of the start-ups, while none of the business buyers had resorted to such support. At the same time, the first group displayed a more internal locus of control disposition than the other, thus reinforcing earlier findings about entrepreneurs. Both groups, however, were strongly internal-oriented compared to general populations.

Abstract:
Facing a chronic illness, aspects of life begin to change; impacting on working life and, therefore, on the satisfaction that can be generated with regard to their work status. Likewise, the demand for psychological treatments and conditions impacts the perspective in front of external factors that can control your health. This research seeks to determine the relationship between the locus of control in health and job satisfaction in people diagnosed with diabetes mellitus II. To do this, a correlational design was used, in which 90 people diagnosed with diabetes mellitus II and currently working were evaluated, with the average age of the participants being 58 years. For this, the multidimensional scale for locus of control in health and the brief scale of job satisfaction were applied. The results show that there is no relationship between the variables between the dimensions of the variables (rho <16; p> .05). Proving that between the perspective that a person has regarding the events that affect their health compared to the level of job satisfaction they may feel in their workplaces, there is no relationship that unites them. Therefore, this research will be useful in a clinical and organizational context of the psychologist, taking into account research theories and limitations that were found.

Abstract:

Pantelidis, Ioannis S. "Locus of control and online technology acceptance of hostel customers." Thesis, University of Surrey, 2012. http://ethos.bl.uk/OrderDetails.do?uin=uk.bl.ethos.557396.

Full text
Abstract:
The original contribution of this thesis is that it establishes evidence of the correlation of a personality construct to online purchasing behaviour. The thesis research question is to establish if there is a correlation between personality characteristics and online consumer behaviour variables during the process of online hostel bookings. To establish the validity of the research question the researcher presents evidence of the changes in approach in consumer behaviour in hospitality and tourism by researchers over the years. It establishes the gap of information in the literature and the gap of empirical information about the effects of personality in the consumer behaviour process. The thesis reviews personality schools of thought and establishes the locus of control construct as one of the more appropriate constructs, for the goals of this research. Following from the review of the consumer behaviour models available in literature, the thesis presents evidence for the use of the technology acceptance model in combination with the locus of control. It discusses methodological paradigms and the philosophical approach behind them and sets out the various methods available to the researcher in analysing primary data. The research design utilises a quantitative research tool that engaged with 602 guests of a London based hostel, as well as a qualitative tool with 43 from the same sample. This allows the researcher to establish evidence of a link between the locus of control construct and the technology acceptance model variables. The qualitative data allows for some deeper understanding between the relationships of the variables. The thesis findings suggest a link between personality and the consumer behaviour process. It also suggests that in the context of online consumer behaviour, the locus of control has a significant positive relationship with perceptions of ease of use of a hotel website, and that the online user and the actual consumer can often be two different people, resulting in a higher number of internals appearing as the majority of consumers that utilise the Internet for online purchases. Finally the findings suggest that the technology acceptance model can be extended in certain research contexts (such as non habitual on line purchases of leisure accommodation) to account for personality variables that may enhance the predictability and understanding of the consumer behaviour process. The study concludes that the evidence of this research suggest a high proportion of internal locus of control for hostel guests who engage in online bookings. The study further concludes that consumers with high internal locus of control tend to perceive usefulness of online booking tools in a more positive way thus suggesting some predictability value of this personality construct within the limitations of the research.

Abstract:
The relationship between health locus of control and functioning in Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) was investigated. The hypothesis was that an internal health locus of control would be associated with less impairment in functioning than other dimensions of health locus of control. Prior research undertaken into CFS has been inconsistent in its finding's and it continues to be an area of controversial interpretations. A repeated measures design was used, 74 people participated at the initial stage of the study and 67 people participated in the second stage. The Functional Limitations Profile was used to assess levels of impairment. The Multidimensional Health Locus of Control was used to identify types of health locus of control orientation, and the Shapiro Control Inventory was used to establish a clearer picture of control issues. Correlations and t-tests were used to investigate the relationship between health locus of control and functioning. The results of these analyses indicated that an internal health locus of control was positively related to functioning. Multiple regression analysis was performed and showed that an internal health locus of control could successfully predict functioning measured at the second stage of the study. An unexpected discovery was that a doctor's health locus of control impacted negatively on functioning. The Shapiro Control Inventory revealed that the CFS sample fell within the normal range in the majority of control areas, but was outside the normal range in only six of the 23 control areas. These findings indicated that health locus of control does play an important role in CFS. It was therefore concluded that increasing a patient's sense of control and reflecting this in the treatment regime of CFS would aid recovery.

Abstract:
Thesis (MA)--Stellenbosch University, 2014.
ENGLISH ABSTRACT: Rotter’s (1966) locus of control (LOC) is, fundamentally, a theory pertaining to individuals’ perceptions of personal control and their appraisal of the contingency of reinforcements in life. An individual may feel as though he/ she has either no control (external LOC) or ample control (internal LOC) over reinforcements. Due to its expediency, the locus of control construct has garnered much attention since it was first introduced to academia in the late 1960s. While originally positioned within Social Learning Theory, the notion of loci of control has since been appropriated into academic fields such as Medicine and Sociology. This particular study now brings the theory of LOC into the realm of Political Science. Employing World Values Survey (WVS) data collected over three time points (1995, 2001, and 2006) in South Africa; this longitudinal study establishes whether or not self-reported class and/ or race influence LOC by measuring the relationship between these three variables. The extent to which any relationships may be significant is also examined. The data analyses showed that the LOC of South Africans has steadily increased (become more internalised) from 1995 to 2006, and that a significant interaction effect occurs between race and class on LOC in South Africa. It was likewise discovered that class and LOC were highly correlated with each other – the self-reported Lower Class had a notably lower LOC compared to the relatively high LOC of the self-reported Upper Class. It is suggested that improved education levels and social security benefits may have a role in improving individuals’ LOC, especially in the South African context. The results of this study uncover future research avenues into class analyses, particularly studies that seek to understand the psychological dimensions of self-reported class or the psychological antecedents of class mobility.

Abstract:
In order to evaluate the cognitive appraisal and meaning-making components of the Transactional Model (Lazarus & Folkman, 1984) and Meaning-making Model (Park & Folkman, 1997) of coping, several specific forms of appraisal and coping strategies were analyzed in the present study. It has been proposed that religiousness and time influence the meaning-making process (Park, 2005); therefore, an interaction of intrinsic religiousness and time were key variables in the study as well. A survey designed to address relationships among locus of control, type of situation, intrinsic religious orientation, specific coping styles, and maladaptive psychological symptoms was administered to 240 students of a regional university. Evidence was found for the importance of primary cognitive appraisal, but no evidence was found for the interaction of intrinsic religious orientation and time on meaning-making coping or psychological symptoms.

Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to determine whether a relationship exists between the scores subjects obtain on Rotter's Internal-External Locus of Control Scale and the type of therapy they prefer. Two hundred and fifty-four students in general psychology classes were given Rotter's Scale. Considering their upper- and lower-third scores, 54 were classified as " Internals," 53 as "Externals." Subjects also were given written descriptions of both psychoanalytic and behavioristic therapies. Each of these descriptions dealt with the goal and the specific therapeutic procedure of the respective therapies. Subjects were asked to identify which therapy they preferred and to provide a rationale for their choice.
