Abstract:
The quay crane scheduling problem plays an essential role in the port container terminal management paradigm, as it is closely related to the berthing time of ships. In this article, we focus on the quay crane scheduling problem based on a special strategy, which forces the quay crane to move in one direction during the process of unloading and loading the containers. The scheduling problem that arises when this strategy is applied is called the one-way scheduling problem of quay cranes in the literature. In this article, we seek a mathematical formula for the unidirectional scheduling problem of quay cranes that can be easily solved by genetic algorithms. This algorithm provides us with the best combination of containers to unload and load at the optimal time.

Abstract:
Introduction: Currently, mobile boom cranes equipped with telescopic boom equipment are widely used in construction, loading and unloading, as well as installation. Purpose of the study: We aimed to develop a dynamic model for a railway lifting crane, taking into account the interaction of its structural elements with each other and the bearing soil surface in a three-dimensional formulation. Methods: In the course of the study, we used Simulation and Motion modules of the SolidWorks software package, Klepikov’s non-linearly deformable soil model, and Lagrange’s equation of the second kind. Results: As a result, we developed a numerical analytical 3D model describing dynamic loading and deformation of the “mobile boom crane – foundation” system in a three-dimensional formulation. The model takes into account the following: the internal bending deformation and the interaction of the mating structural elements of a crane (telescopic sections, telescoping hydraulic cylinders, and outriggers), hoist rope rigidity, grillage (framework of sleepers) influence, elastic and plastic properties of the base platform soil, and action of inertial loads on the structural elements of the lifting crane.

Abstract:
Objective. The development of structures and calculation of metal-wood crane beams are associated with specific difficulties. The article discusses the methods of calculation and design of metal-wood crane beams. In this case, an algorithm is described that allows designing systems that are rational in terms of material consumption. Methods. As an example, a metal-wood beam with a span of 12 m is used, which is supported by overhead cranes with a load capacity of 30 tf. The operation of a metal-wood crane beam was compared with a glue laminate crane beam without reinforcement. The reinforcement elements are "discarded" and replaced with elasto-yielding supports to calculate a glue laminate beam reinforced with metal elements (or a metal-wood beam). The flexibility of these supports is taken into account using the elastic support ratio r, which is determined depending on the stiffness of the supports, and the force in the metal elements is derived from the nodes balance. Result. In both variants of loading metal-wood crane beams, it was shown that the greatest bending moment occurred when the bridge wheel was located above the elastic support. Conclusion. It is rational to use a metal-wood crane beam when operating bridge cranes with a lifting capacity of up to 30 tf; metal-wood crane beams are recommended to be designed with spans up to 12 m; the comparison of glue laminate crane beams with metal-wood beams showed that metal-wood beams were 40-55% more efficient.

Тhesis for candidate of technical science degree (Philosophy Doctor) in speciality 05.02.09 – Dynamics and Strength of Machines (13 – mechanical engineering). – National Тechnical University «Kharkov Polytechnic Institute», Kharkiv, 2019. The needs of modern industry, transport and services in innovative products with increased technical and economic characteristics have recently been increasing dramatically. Large proportion of such products are thin-walled engineering structures, which rationally combine mass and strength characteristics. At the same time, strict rules and regulations are applied to many products (aircraft, ships, rolling stock, cranes, reloaders, high-pressure vessels, chemical industry equipment, agricultural equipment) for ensure the operation safety. Accordingly, design studies use established computational methods, as well as traditional technical solutions. In spite of pressure of established practice, which tends to create products as "clones" of long-created analogues, opposite trend also applies. It is generated by general aspiration for progress, even in conservative areas of activity, as well as economic considerations. Moreover, many consumers of innovative products set their additional requirements for products aimed at extending service life of structures, increasing their productivity, intensity of operating modes or load capacity. In these circumstances, in addition to regulatory restrictions, there are additional ones, which complicates the requirements fulfillment for projected designs. Thus, the scientific and practical task of developing methods for strength ensuring of innovative thin-walled engineering structures under action of operating loads complex has appeared and is intensified in its urgency and importance. Its formulation, solution and implementation to design studies practice is goal, content and directions of dissertation research. In the dissertation work the scientific and technical problem is solved, which consists in methods and models improvement for strength ensurance of thin-walled engineering structures under action of operational loads complex. In the work for stress-strain state analysis of thin-walled engineering structures the theory of elasticity ratios and the finite element method are used. Geometric shape formation of investigated structures was carried out by methods of solid state and surface modeling. For structure and size variation of studied objects, the method of generalized parametric modeling for innovative thin-walled engineering structures is adapted and developed. Experimental studies were carried out using strain gauge and accelerometer methods. In course of dissertation research the following scientific results were obtained: 1) an analysis of operating conditions, regulatory requirements, as well as analysis methods of thin-walled engineering structures taking into account the constrains on durability, and on this basis, the dissertation research directions were determined; 2) methods and models for design parameters justification of innovative thin-walled engineering structures according to strength criteria under action of operational loads complex, taking into account regulatory constraints are improved; 3) solution of a number of applied tasks of technical solutions substantiation for the thin-walled engineering structures according to strength and durability criteria; 4) computational and experimental studies of stress-strain state of innovative thin-walled engineering structures that are designed on the basis of recommendations with application of dissertation research results; 5) research results are introduced into production.

Abstract:
The purpose of this study is to find the critical design area in industrial buildings that combine the premise of different free heights with the location of different load capacities of an overhead crane. A total of nine symmetrical models were proposed in plan with a gabled portico arrangement. The structural system includes frames at the moment and braced frames. The span of the overhead crane longitudinally and transversely determined between 10 to 90 locations where the overhead crane load is concentrated for the analysis. The loads considered for the analysis and design were those produced by dead load, live load, wind and earthquake. For the design of the elements of the industrial buildings, Standard E.090 of the National Building Regulations has been considered and as a complement the following standards have been used: ASCE and AISC. The design of the structural elements was based on the LRFD method. The result of the investigation found a critical design zone on the left and right margins of each model. The values of both margins corresponding to the load capacity of the overhead crane are equal in each of their symmetrical positions. It was found that in the critical zone there is a single location that generates the maximum performances in the elements of the industrial buildings. The cost ratios of the profiles of the industrial buildings were determined; which, vary between 51 and 190 dollars per square meter.

Operation of mobile cranes under harsh and urgent conditions is prone to accidents. In the processing of tankers capsized in traffic thoroughfares, the operation time of mobile cranes is extremely limited and secondary damage from the rollover of mobile cranes may occur due to negligence of safety regulations. Causes of crane rollover include hanging load exceeding the rated load, improper rotation, tilt or slippery soft ground and other reasons. While electronic monitoring of the work load is becoming prevalent in existing mobile cranes, operation of cranes not equipped with such function still depends on detailed specifications from the vendors. In the national regulations of Taiwan, the stability of the crane is measured by the front stability coefficient which is defined as ratio of stability moment to overturning moment. In this study, the basic concepts of torque equilibrium is combined with the front stability coefficient to deal with the stability of wheel-type mobile crane in the lifting operation of overturned chemical tankers by analyzing the relations among the capsized load and the boom length, the boom elevation, the cage length and the ground tilt. The calculation results are shown in the following matters should be suspended jobs Note: when (1) the hanging job to drive the longest distance of the center of gravity away from the overturned direction of the axis of the main direction of the hanging job, avoid the shortest distance to the vehicle center of gravity from the axis direction capsized operating range for the hanging. The maximum load (2) shall be suspended job overturned vehicle center of gravity away from the direction of the axis of minimum maximum minimum distance for the suspended load hanging operation times the limit load. (3) should be suspended jobs can work as much as possible within a radius of a high elevation hanging manner. (4) suspended operations to avoid a vehicle should be kept level vehicle inclination. (5) suspended operations support stand must all be expanded to improve the stability of the hanging job to avoid capsizing.

The purpose of questionnaire survey and interview is to understand the currentsituations and the future need about truck cranes. Over-loading mathematical models may be derived by using either the moment method and the fulcrum method. Afterevaluation we adopt the moment method to obtain conceptual design. The over-loading cutout device is devided into the following four parts: sensors, the central processingunit, a warning device and the cutout device. In the first stage of this research, length, angle, and load sensors are installed and initialtests are performed. Experiments are carried out on a structure designed to replace the truck crane in this research. In combination with three sensors, together with the warning and the cutout devices, we simulate the central processing unit by using a personal computer and a AD/DA convert card. The interface between the user and the computer is written by Visual Basic. By intergrating all these parts mentioned above, a model for the device is established for preliminary study. In the second stage, a micro-processor is used to replace the personal computer, and tests are carried out for thewhole system. The results show that the average error for length, angle, and load sensors is within 3﹪.

Due to the rapid industrial development recently, the applications of truck cranes have been gradually increased. However, the degree of danger in applying these devices has also increase resulting from the expedite growth of the usage of the truck cranes. Therefore, the studyin preventing over-loading has become urgent and important subject of truck cranes. The over-loading prevention device is to avoid the truck cranes to be damaged or turned over when it carries loads over its maximum limit. When such situation occurred, the trucd crane would be shut down by a simple switch. Although this could prevent over-loading, but this is considered inappropriate mainly because: (1)While the Truck Crane is under normal operation, the inertia will cause hamful effects to both the structures of machine and operators if the system is switched off under certain speed and long-term operations. (2)Improve one dimension to multi-dimension operation of working freedom, and also to solve coupling problem and more humanly. This research applies the Fuzzy logistics control system on the truck cranes, synchronizing with proportional valves, in order to improve the safety of truck crane and maintain a reliable controllability.

Abstract:
This chapter presents a novel hybrid algorithm for the quay crane scheduling problem (QCSP). QCSP consists of scheduling a sequence of unloading and loading movements for cranes assigned to a vessel, minimizing the total completion time of all the tasks. The proposed algorithm integrates two well-known metaheuristics: Greedy Randomized Adaptive Search Procedure and Ant Colony System; it also incorporates a repositioning strategy of idle cranes to reduce the interference generated by the quay cranes. The experimental results show that the proposed method is able to find quality solutions in short times. In experiments reported in the literature with crafted instances of QCSP, heuristic running time varies from seconds in small instances to hours in instances of medium size. Currently, the industry requirements are up to a maximum of approximately five minutes. The hybrid algorithm presented in this chapter allows addressing these requirements, by finding good quality solutions in significantly shorter time for larger problems, which represents an advantage in real environments.

Abstract:
The scheduling of quay cranes is a core logistics challenge that affects significantly the loading and unloading time of a vessel berthed at a container terminal. In this paper, we study the Stochastic Floating Quay Crane Scheduling Problem involving cranes situated on the quay of an offshore modular platform. Specifically, we consider the case in which each crane is situated on a different module of the platform, thereby confining its operation range. Additionally, we assume stochastic crane productivity rates due to the effect of the offshore wind. To tackle the problem, we propose a simheuristic framework, which combines Iterated Local Search with Monte Carlo Sampling into a joint collaborative scheme. The main objective is to minimize the expected completion time of the loading and unloading process taking into account precedence, nonsimultaneity, non-crossing, and spatial constraints of the problem at hand. The performance of the proposed simheuristic is investigated on a set of established problem instances across different configuration parameters and under various real-world environmental scenarios offering insightful conclusions.

Abstract:
Rotary cranes are widely used in construction operations to load and unload materials in field. However, the efficiency of the loading operation could be limited due to the crane’s slewing rotational motion that generates undesirable load sway. Various attempts of anti-sway control have been proposed for cranes however few attempts focused on the telescopic rotary crane. This paper presents load tracking and anti-sway control method that can be used to suppress the undesirable load sway during telescopic rotary crane operation. The proposed method is based on a dynamic model that has been developed to predict the sway angles, load trajectory s-curves, load cubic path trajectory, load quantic path trajectory and load zero jerk trajectory for telescopic rotary crane [1]. The operating parameters for the proposed method are obtained experimentally using scaled telescopic rotary crane prototype that is built up in lab. The results show the effectiveness of the proposed control method to achieve load tracking and anti-sway control for real time operation.
