Abstract:
Human jumping motion includes stance phase, flight phase and landing impact phase. Jumping robot belongs to a variable constraints system because every phase has different constraint conditions. An unified dynamics equation during stance phase and flight phase is established based on floated-basis space. Inertia matching is used to analyze actuator/gear systems and select the optimum gear ratio based on the transmission performance between the torque produced at the actuator and the torque applied to the load. Load matching is an important index which affects jumping performance and reflects the capability of supporting a weight or mass. It also affects the distributing of the center of gravity (COG). Regarding jumping robot as a redundant manipulator with a load at end-effector, inertia matching can be applied to optimize load matching for jumping robot. Inertia matching manipulability and directional manipulability are easy to analyze and optimize the load matching parameters. A 5th order polynomial function is defined to plan COG trajectory of jumping motion, taking into account the constraint conditions of both velocity and acceleration. Finally, the numerical simulation of vertical jumping and experimental results show inertia matching is in direct proportion to jumping height, and inertia matching manipulability is a valid method to load matching optimization and conceptual design of robot.

Abstract:
Applications of modern terminal loads and its relevant disadvantages are described in this paper. The decomposing method of wideband microwave high power microstrip loads design is proposed in this paper with purpose of matching quality improving. Multiple extension of multistage load bandwidth is provided by using of external matching circuit and internal matching inductive elements. The maximum reachable bandwidth of multistage load is estimated and optimal values of mathing circuit elements are founded on basis of equivalent lumped scheme. The topology of microstrip two-stage high power microwave load is developed and its frequency response, calculated via numeric electrodynamic modelling method is outlined in the paper. Modelling results show good matching quality of considered load at the frequency band below 3,5 GHz.

Abstract:
The quantitative evaluation of cluster wind power output volatility and source-load timing matching is vital to the planning and operation of the future power system dominated by new energy. However, the existing volatility evaluation methods of cluster wind power output do not fully consider timing volatility, or are not suitable for small sample data scenarios. Meanwhile, the existing source-load timing matching evaluation indicator ignores the impact of wind power permeability on the timing matching degree between wind power output and load. Therefore, the authors propose quantitative evaluation methods of cluster wind power output volatility and source-load timing matching in regional power grid. Firstly, the volatility-based smoothing coefficient is defined to quantitatively evaluate the smoothing effect of wind-farm cluster power output. Then, the source-load timing matching coefficient considering wind power permeability is proposed to quantitatively evaluate the timing matching degree of regional wind power output and load, and the corresponding function model of volatility-based smoothing coefficient and source-load timing matching coefficient is established. Finally, the validity and applicability of the proposed methods are verified by MATLAB software based on the actual power output of 10 wind farms and actual grid load in a certain grid dispatching cross-section of northeast China. The results demonstrated that the proposed volatility-based smoothing coefficient can accurately represent the smoothing effect of wind farm cluster power output while maintaining the volatility continuity of wind power output time series and without affect from the data sample size. The source-load timing matching coefficient can accurately characterize the difference in the timing matching degree between wind power output and grid load under different wind power permeability and the influence degree on grid load.

Abstract:
The matching of cognitive load and working memory is the key for effective learning, and cognitive effort in the learning process has nervous responses which can be quantified in various physiological parameters. Therefore, it is meaningful to explore automatic cognitive load pattern recognition by using physiological measures. Firstly, this work extracted 33 commonly used physiological features to quantify autonomic and central nervous activities. Secondly, we selected a critical feature subset for cognitive load recognition by sequential backward selection and particle swarm optimization algorithms. Finally, pattern recognition models of cognitive load conditions were constructed by a performance comparison of several classifiers. We grouped the samples in an open dataset to form two binary classification problems: (1) cognitive load state vs. baseline state; (2) cognitive load mismatching state vs. cognitive load matching state. The decision tree classifier obtained 96.3% accuracy for the cognitive load vs. baseline classification, and the support vector machine obtained 97.2% accuracy for the cognitive load mismatching vs. cognitive load matching classification. The cognitive load and baseline states are distinguishable in the level of active state of mind and three activity features of the autonomic nervous system. The cognitive load mismatching and matching states are distinguishable in the level of active state of mind and two activity features of the autonomic nervous system.

Abstract:
The impedance matching and the optimization of power from a circular piezoelectric energy harvester with a central-attached mass are studied. A finite element model is constructed to analyze the electrical equivalent impedance of the circular piezoelectric energy harvester. Furthermore, the complex conjugate matching load is used to extract the maximum output power of the energy harvester. The power output from complex conjugate matching load is compared with the power output from the resistive matching load and a constant resistance, separately. The results suggest that the complex conjugate matching can result in a significant increase of the output power for all frequencies. The effective bandwidth of the piezoelectric energy harvester is extended significantly.

Abstract:
Harmonic rejection ability and reflection coefficient are the most important factors in the design of impedance matching network. However, stability of impedance matching should be taken into account in applications existing load impedance variation and component deviation due to tolerance and process variation. This paper investigates variability of Pi network impedance matching analytically. The relationships between resulting reflection coefficient with component deviation and load impedance variation are theoretically derived on the basis of Q-based design method. The deviation from perfect match due to component deviation is proportional to quality factor. Higher quality factor probably means poorer quality in terms of variability. The resulting reflection coefficient caused by load impedance variation increases rapidly when the load reflection coefficient is larger than 0.66. A small variation in the load impedance will cause a large deviation from perfect match when the impedance difference between load and source is quite large.

Abstract:
For the maximum output power varies with changes in load characteristics match the characteristics of solar cells in photovoltaic power generation system, the system runs through dynamic MPPT maximum power of self-optimizing process to achieve power from the PV charge control match. First, the output characteristic simulation analysis of the solar load resistive, capacitive load showed that solar power batteries for load matching efficiency is higher than in a purely resistive load. Then, using the improved algorithm for variable step size perturbation and observation of the received output power of solar power and load matching control, experiments showed that the optimum operating point of the circuit can control the real-time monitoring of solar cells and load. The output power from the battery load matching circuit to match the time working in the best working condition, if the energy is surplus or shortage, the system can control dynamic self-optimizing adjustment to charge, which leads to batteries absorbed power increasing and the efficiency of solar energy collection improving.

Since it can change electron energy distribution functions, very high frequency (VHF) plasma has gained significant attention as a promising new class of plasma. We demonstrate an automatic matching system for VHF plasma, that works in very wide ranges. A matching system was prepared using conventional variable capacitors. Reflection coefficient at the input of the matching circuits was measured with a directional coupler. A new calculation method for automatic matching based on numerical models for the circuit was developed, and the performance of the automatic matching system was evaluated using a load emulator. These results revealed that the system has an automatic matching capability for the entire range of the covering load area.

Abstract:
The purpose of this work is to provide the estimation of the potential abilities of analytic broadband matching methods for complicated load terminations. The article covers the problem of synthesis of mylti-band frequency response matching circuits. Results presented in the article are of prime interest for communications systems from one point and the lack of advanced analytic methods from another. The problem of multiband impedance matching is under consideration. Presented is the method of synthesis of multiband matching circuits for arbitrary complex loads, based on the generalized Darlington approach to the lumped circuits design. Frequency response for the synthesis is obtained as a result of double-band reactance transformation in the process of reflection coefficient factorization. The factorization results in the analytic representation of the reflection coefficient function on the complex surface. This method allows to identify functional limitations on broadband matching and for the first time to obtain analytical solutions for the loads of practical value. Application of the method is demonstrated in the detailed procedure of realization of double-band Batterworth frequency response for the resonance load (RLC-load). It would be pertinent to stress, that presented results concerning the double-band synthesis of resonance load have no coverage in technical literature. The method also features the analytic description of the design parameters as functions of load termination parameters which provides a road-map to conceptual design of multiband matching circuits.

Abstract:
This paper describes the matching of various loads to sources (including nonlinear ones). The purpose of matching is to extract the maximum available power from the source. This has particular importance for renewable sources and energy-harvesting devices, in which unused energy is just wasted. The main innovations in this paper include (and followed by examples) simplified calculation of the matching parameter for a controllable load and matching by means of a family of power-conservative two-port networks, denoted POPI (Pin = Pout), such as transformers, gyrators, loss-free resistors (LFRs) and series LFRs (SLFRs). An additional innovation described in this paper is a new, simplified model of an HF power amplifier based on the series LFR concept. This model predicts that the efficiency of the HF power amplifier operated under the matched-mode condition can significantly exceed the 50% efficiency limit that is predicted by the conventional model. As HF power amplifiers drive antennas in transmission and some wireless power transfer (which uses radiative techniques) systems, it is clear that the operation of such systems in the matched-mode condition is not restricted to a 50% efficiency limit.

Abstract:
Nowadays, energy management aims to propose different strategies to utilize available energy resources, resulting in sustainability of energy systems and development of smart sustainable cities. As an effective approach toward energy management, non-intrusive load monitoring (NILM), aims to infer the power profiles of appliances from the aggregated power signal via purely analytical methods. Existing NILM methods are susceptible to various issues such as the noise and transient spikes of the power signal, overshoots at the mode transition times, close consumption values by different appliances, and unavailability of a large training dataset. This paper proposes a novel event-based NILM classification algorithm mitigating these issues. The proposed algorithm (i) filters power signals and accurately detects all events; (ii) extracts specific features of appliances, such as operation modes and their respective power intervals, from their power signals in the training dataset; and (iii) labels with high accuracy each detected event of the aggregated signal with an appliance mode transition. The algorithm is validated using REDD with the results showing its effectiveness to accurately disaggregate low-frequency measured data by existing smart meters.

Operation on the principle of the giant magnetoimpedace (GMI) magnetic field sensor was designed and tested for the case of CoFeSiB amorphous wire of 6 mm length. We considered magnetic field displacement of the order of 10 Oe. Piece of amorphous wire was placed as a central conductor of a coaxial cable. The maximum slope of the sensor GMI characteristic was observed at the terminator resistance RT = 50 Ohm, while the maximum of the GMI ratio variation was observed in the not “matched” (RT = 75 Ohm) but closer to the “short” mode. Amorphous wire placed as a central conductor of a coaxial cable serves as a sensitive element with high sensitivity with respect to applied field making possible to use a simple design with a miniature coil for magnetic field biasing.

Abstract:
One of the greatest challenges to power embedded devices using magnetically coupled resonant wireless power transfer (WPT) system is that the amount of power delivered to the load is very sensitive to load impedance variations. Previous adaptive impedance-matching (IM) technologies have drawbacks because adding IM networks, relay coils, or other compensating components in the receiver-side will significantly increase the receiver size. In this paper, a novel frequency-tracking and impedance-matching combined system is proposed to improve the robustness of wireless power transfer for embedded devices. The characteristics of the improved WPT system are investigated theoretically based on the two-port network model. Simulation and experimental studies are carried out to validate the proposed system. The results suggest that the frequency-tracking and impedance-matching combined WPT system can quickly find the best matching points and maintain high power transmission efficiency and output power when the load impedance changes.

Abstract:
In this paper, distribution-level peer-to-peer energy exchange is proposed that allows increased matching between load and generation nodes. Contributions of the proposed improved matching system between the local load and generation nodes aim at making efficient use of unused power generation, reducing the cost of electrical energy for consumers, and assisting utility companies by reducing transmission line congestion. The proposed system for matching the load and generation nodes consists of a financial layer and technical layer. In the financial layer, nodes with an excess of energy provide a price to sell energy, while the nodes needing energy bid on a price to purchase energy. A market-clearing mechanism using pool clearing is applied to determine a final price for peer-to-peer exchange. The technical layer determines the connection of energy transfer between the generation and load nodes while considering the distance, power flow constraints, and specified time windows. The proposed approach is verified in a five-node system and the results are discussed.

Abstract. Reaction time (RT) of erroneous responses in go/no-go tasks tends to be shorter than RT of correct responses. An opposite difference has been reported ( Halperin, Wolf, Greenblatt, & Young, 1991 ) which could be attributed to differences in go trial probability, or to high memory demand. Two experiments aimed here to test these two explanations, a simultaneous matching task with low memory load (Experiment 1), and a sequential matching task with high memory load (Experiment 2). Go trial probability was also manipulated. Short false positive RT was obtained only in the sequential matching task with high go trial probability, while long false positive RT was obtained in the other three conditions. Low go trial probability and high memory load were both found to be sufficient, by themselves, to create long false positives attributable to confusion. Short false positives in the high go trial probability/low memory load condition were attributed to failure of response inhibition.

The results of measurements and modeling of the effect of frequency dependences of the complex resistance of low-resistance resistors of various types used as loads on the measured characteristics of transformers are presented. An increase in the influence of parasitic parameters of the load, winding terminals, compensating reactivity of elements and the transformer itself on its characteristics with a decrease in the load resistance is shown.

Abstract:
Purpose Rotational speed and load-carrying capacity are two mutual coupling factors which affect high precision and stable operation of a hydrostatic thrust bearing. The purpose of this paper is to study reasonable matching relationship between the rotational speed and the load-carrying capacity. Design/methodology/approach A mathematical model of relationship between the rotational speed and the load-carrying capacity of the hydrostatic bearing with double-rectangle recess is set up on the basis of the tribology theory and the lubrication theory, and the load and rotational speed characteristics of an oil film temperature field and a pressure field in the hydrostatic bearing are analyzed, reasonable matching relationship between the rotational speed and the load-carrying capacity is deduced and a verification experiment is conducted. Findings By increasing the rotational speed, the oil film temperature increases, the average pressure decreases and the load-carrying capacity decreases. By increasing the load-carrying capacity, the oil film temperature and the average pressure increases and the rotational speed decreases; corresponding certain reasonable matching values are available. Originality/value The load-carrying capacity can be increased and the rotational speed improved by means of reducing the friction area of the oil recess by using low-viscosity lubricating oil and adding more oil film clearance; but, the stiffness of the hydrostatic bearing decreases.

Abstract:
In this work, we propose measuring the propagation speed on the transmission medium in the form of a 2.5mm NYAF cable. The method used is load matching and time difference of arrival (TDA). The load matching method uses the same load as the characteristic impedance of the cable. While the TDA method measures two points on the cable with a capacitive load on the output side. From the results of the study, it was found that on the load impedance method, the average propagation speed on a 2.5mm NYAF cable is 1.9 × 108 m»s or 0.63 c. Meanwhile, in the time difference of arrival (TDA) method, the average propagation speed on a 2.5mm NYAF cable is 0.5 × 108 m»s or 0.17 c.

Abstract:
The Statnamic (STN) load test is characterized by a relatively long duration and low pile velocity and acceleration compared with the dynamic load test. The estimation of the static capacity of piles and their static performance characteristics from dynamic loading tests usually requires a signal matching process. In this process, the soil parameters are varied until an acceptable match between the computed and measured responses is achieved. The soil properties obtained are then used to characterize the static behaviour of the pile. In this paper, an approach is presented to analyze the response of flexible and rigid piles during the STN load test. In this approach, a one-dimensional model is used to represent the pile-soil system accounting for nonlinear soil behaviour, slippage at the pile-soil interface, and energy dissipation through wave propagation and different types of damping. The postpeak resistance of certain types of soils is also considered in the analysis. An automatic matching technique (AMT) was developed to facilitate the signal matching process for the analysis of pile response during the STN load test. The proposed AMT has several advantages, including reducing the bias in the results due to the initial selection of the soil parameters; increasing the accuracy and reliability of computed pile capacity; and reducing computational time, thus allowing for the analysis of the test results in the field. It is then possible to compute the pile capacity and make a timely decision on its suitability. The proposed approach was used to analyze the results of six STN load tests, and the comparison between the measured and computed results was good.Key words: piles, Statnamic, pile load test, signal matching, transient load, capacity.

Abstract:
Considering the huge power consumption, rapid response and the short-term heat reserving capacity of the air conditioning load in the building’s energy system, the air conditioning load and its system can be equivalent to the virtual energy storage device for the power grid. Therefore, to obtain a high matching building renewable energy system, a virtual energy storage system of the air conditioning load, accompanied by a storage battery, was built in the paper. Then, operating strategies for the virtual energy storage of the air conditioning load and storage battery were designed. Further, to quantize the contribution of the virtual energy storage to the improvement of matching characteristics, two indicators of the demand side and supply side in the energy system were adopted, including on-site energy fraction (OEFr) and on-site energy matching (OEMr). Lastly, matching characteristic research of the building’s renewable energy system based on virtual energy storage of the air conditioning load was established and analyzed by TRNSYS and MATLAB in Tianjin, China. The results revealed that a better matching characteristic performance of the building’s renewable energy systems driven by virtual energy storage was obtained. In the condition set out in the paper, compared with that without virtual energy storage, the average values of OEFr and OEMr after virtual energy storage were 0.66 and 0.77, which increased by 8.19% and 8.45% respectively. Simultaneously, the battery operation performance in the building renewable system was improved when the virtual energy storage was working. The times of charge and discharge cycles decreased after virtual energy storage, and the depth of discharge of the battery reduced by 23.37% on a specific day.
